Yuts was an artist who was doing a project with some fellow creatives on a unique place in Louisiana called Norco, a “census designated place” basically under the thumb of the Shell Oil Corporation that literally stands for “New Orleans Refining Company.” The project was meant to be a sort of multimedia documentary, using real stories with an unorthodox style of presentation and even media. This included making sprite art that they shared on tumblr, and got so much feedback about wanting to play the game this sprite art existed in that they decided to, you know, make this a game project and fund it via patreon backers. It may even be a full trilogy, though that seems up in the air.
What is clear is that the resulting initial game, NORCO, is easily one of the most notable indie releases of 2022, a tightly designed narrative game that went through all sorts of weird forms in development (including a platformer) before becoming the adventure game it is now. Set in an alternate bad future of our world, NORCO follows a young woman named Kay returning to her old small town after her mother’s death, only to find a mystery surrounding the circumstances of her mother’s death and a missing brother.
Yall... I just finished reading Demon Seed (1997 ver.) and it has occupied my entire brain. The general idea of it is so enticing to me despite its flaws and the overall ironic misogyny of proteus😭. If you're a fan of dark sci-fi and spooky robots obsessed with human women and impregnating them (it's not what you're thinking-- or maybe it is?) in order to become human/ take over the world, I'd recommend it!! I havent read the original but the 1997 version has given me so much to think about and I think yall might enjoy it. I think reading from proteus's perspective + the way koontz wrote him, can actually help me a ton with my own dark fic writing in a strange way!

1. Ghosts are people. They used to be, at least. They broke out of their crypto-tombs for one reason; they were bored. Mostly they have no grand plans, they are simply seeking entertainment and diversion. We can take advantage of this.
2. Ghosts are no longer people. They cannot be killed easily. Think of them as a self-aware computer virus, one capable of understanding our motives and reacting to them. The more we can keep our plans hidden to the ghost, the better our chances will be.
3. There is only one way to be sure a ghost has been eradicated. Ensure all its data is present on a single storage unit and destroy that unit irrevocably. There is no legal precedent for this sort of action in our time, but in the future it will be seen as tantamount to murder. It is possible that, if we did this, some of us will be tried and convicted in the coming years. Thus it is better to take the second most effective course of action...
Bulletstorm is a project made by the combined efforts of Epic Games, future rulers of the industry, and People Can Fly, a far more interesting studio because they are the studio that made Painkiller, and thus cursed us all with the spread of various remnants of that franchise who will eventually outnumber us all. Painkiller is its own topic, but what’s important for now is understanding that it was one of the two franchises keeping the classic FPS spirit alive (Serious Sam the other), entirely without actually playing like a classic, but also not following modern trends. It would be a reoccurring thing for the developers of that series as they moved onto other things, and Bulletstorm was absolutely no exception. In fact, it may be most apt to compare it to another game made by former Painkiller devs – Shadow Warrior 2013.
