#WHYYYYY DOES HE GET SO MUCH SCREENTIME???#if there is one thing I'd bet my life on it's that xander is a self-insert for the person who made this show. idk who that was but I can -#tell they're infusing themselves in the narrative through him#anyways he's definitely a self-insert and also I just don't like him so whenever he's on screen I'm painfully aware of it
These are the same feelings I have about Danny Partridge - his character is the main focus of the show, basically a self-insert of the creator. i'm only halfway through season 1 and every episode is about DANNY, with the exception of one or two episodes. it's so obvious that it is painful (he does have some good moments but still !! so overwhelming) and when the storyline is about another character, suddenly danny becomes the centre of the episode.
"But oddly enough, everybody on that show was oddly enough connected to my family. My daughter's name is Laurie, her boyfriend was Keith. Our dog was called Simon, but they got a female dog so her name was Simone." - Bernard Slade, creator and writer.

Currently Watching: I'm not currently watching anything new BUT I am rewatching Buffy: the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series! I think I'm going to start watching Supernatural and/or Doctor Who again soon.
Currently Reading: Other than all the baller fanfic dropped during Invisobang? I'm not reading much original stories right now, between school, work, and fandom! But the last thing I read was Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao! And I will recommend it until my dying breath. Enjoy the summary!:

5. Do you respond to comments?
I've been trying to more recently! But I'm not always great at it. At the very least when someone comments something detailed and thoughtful I try to reply - those comments always mean a lot to me.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Not fully intentionally but the place @holdsteady and I left our collaborative fic How to Live Here was basically right after a massive fight/breakup between characters that we fully planned to resolve and then just.... never did. Oops. Surprisingly, people are very rarely mean to us about this.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Body Language? Very much intended to have that one wrapped up with a bow.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not in a long time. Last time I really did was on some of my Life is Strange fics (either homophobic hate or bc i was writing a ship people didn't like).
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yeah! Femslash only.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I sometimes joke about/hc elaborate crossovers when I'm watching stuff with my friends, but I don't really have any interest in writing any. Or reading any, really, for that matter.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yeah! Had one of my LiS fics translated to Vietnamese. That was cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yeah! I co-wrote How to Live Here with my best friend @holdsteady! That's the only one that's been published, at least. @nataliving adn @jewishsuperfam and i have worked on some stuff together too and that's been fun :)
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
I don't know if I actually can pick one but honest Buffy/Faith are all-timers and absolutely formative. Second to that would be Rachel/Max/Chloe from Life is Strange.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
God, How to Live Here absolutely haunts me. There's a few Mass Effect ones (Shepard/Liara arranged marriage AU and my Jack/Miranda series) that I would love to finish but probably never will. Those are the ones that probably have the most written for them that I just haven't wrapped up.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm good at a lot of it! I write pretty good smut, I'm good at character voice, I think my writing is pretty readable
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Actually writing lmao. I struggle with coming up with workable ideas. I intimidate myself out of projects a lot. I fall off stuff kinda easy too tbh. And I'm TERRIBLE at writing alone - for anything bigger than a oneshot I need someone to hype me up and hold my hand through it or else I get bored or lose confidence :?
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Generally in favor of skipping the google translate stuff. It's usually pretty whack
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Technically digimon when i was a little kid and before I even knew what fanfic was. First i posted was Danny Phantom
20. Favorite fic you've written?
I think Body Language is probably my best fic but for sentimental reasons I really love How to Live Here, since i wrote it with my best friend.

Aye I actually got to watch the episode tonight
Random 16x07 Notes I took while watching before scrolling my dash:
-Mac playing pool just like he plays hockey and bowls I see <3 something something putting too much power/pressure on things/being too forceful when you gotta guide the hockey puck like a little bowl of cream, or throw the bowling ball with gentle precision and finesse... something something previous years him putting too much pressure/force on Dennis but now...
-On a less conspiracy take note, I rewatched Mac’s Big Break recently and I find it fun how Charlie is just like better and knows more about sports and stuff like that and tells Mac what he has to do to play better. Also plays into this season’s theme of Charlie recurringly being the straight man, able to point out and notice things others don’t, but still being a bit of a helpless observer for the most part.
-Great Sharp title cut today, I should make a list of all the best ones/ones with best timing, I know one of the most iconic will always be Frank Sets Sweet Dee on Fire.
-The cackles and Charlie trying to mirror them <3 love that
-The horror sound effects when the McPoyles turn around and in the next few scenes are on point.
-Following that “Too many ideas, just stick with one” theme again just like in Celebrity Booze... interesting, very interesting. And what’s the main uniting idea that they want to stick it out with huh 👀 (or is it about the blend of ideas, the chili the cheese the fries.)
-Mac touches Den’s arm so much in this ep, they’re both very touchy, it’s nice to see them comfortable with that again.
-First time I’ve been able to watch the rip with commercials, Danny Devito Jersey Mike’s jump scare, how can I connect this to sunny he’s hiding behind the painting with the eyes cut out just like Dennis was in s15 and—*Jersey Mike himself drags me away*
-Dennis saying “it’s too sexually charged” while side eyeing Mac right next to him in frame like that, I don’t even need to comment
-Let’s go, Frank, slow and steady wins the race... slow like the structure, like 16 years wait.
-Artemis saying “hoor” like Frank does, okay, work it.
-Really interesting to me Charlie gets a strike without even needing to focus, something I wanted to say there but I don’t remember. We saw everyone else with their initial strategy and then psychologically affected to fail though and I wish we got to see Dennis in that context as well?
-Mac’s finesse ramble 🤝 Anya in Buffy “I have finesse coming out of my bottom!”
-“Just play the game and we’re gonna win, don’t spin, don’t do it.” This line I like because it feels very much in line with I’ve always been Dennis and you’re you you’ve always been you, and big mo again and just play the game and we’re gonna win, don’t spin, don’t do it, just be yourself, just be, just play.
-I can’t believe they cut off my man on his scream, the injustice! Anyway, gonna need more angst and pain from him, stat.
-Lick
-omg the McPoyle bowling scene was so much better than I expected, that was so funny. Also, Liam wants Dennis so bad.
-They should have trash twin telepathy stuff in this show more, let’s goo, they’re in each other’s heads, they’ve never been apart almost their whole life, we need Dee to figure out how to mess with Dennis’ head next.
-The cgi pin faces will haunt me, they also crashed my computer multiple times like the ep simply would not play beyond that scene.

-Dennis having a new car when the old one is so inherently tied to his identity/the past, iCarly interesting.jpeg, trying to reconcile the new with the old and him not having control of it, a theme of control this season, who is in control? Charlie or Frank in the world of business? Dennis as Johnny? Aaron or Bryan... is it all an act? Is Mac...?
-Putting things under pressure so they become diamonds subplot to putting Dennis under pressure, I see you, I see you.

ahhh I have manyyy bc I usually hyperfixate on one ship per fandom but i do also enjoy a lot of canon side pairings (and also combos that include my OTP)
main fandoms that I have a lot of ships for are SPN and BtVS/AtS and aside those OTPs (destiel/spuffy):
- i really love Sam/Eileen, Willow/Tara, Xander/Anya, Angel/Cordelia and Wesley/Fred
- i also enjoy Sam/Rowena, Castiel/Crowley and Wesley/Lilah
- i think the concept of Dean/Cas/Jimmy, Cas/Jimmy or Dean/Jimmy is really interesting
- i think Angel/Buffy/Spike would fix them
- i think Dean/Cas/Crowley would make them worse
20. your very first fandom!
i kinda see myself as having multiple "first fandoms", bc while i've always been super invested in my favourite media, the way i interacted with media and especially other fans has changed a lot
~5yo - Sailor Moon/Pokemon: baby's first fandoms in that i was drawing, cosplaying, coming up with my own stories, asking for merch, and my family and friends knew that i Really Liked This Stuff (my 70yo italian nonni were watching SM with me and buying me mewtwo plushies ahhh~)
10yo - Stargate SG-1: the first piece of adult media i got into and also Jack/Sam was the first non-established/assured ship i got invested in, tho I didn’t really “make” anything for the show, tho i did get my first experience of fanworks via a series of comics
14yo - Danny Phantom: probably what most people would consider my first actual fandom! (happy 20th anniversary today !!!) i watched one episode and immediately decided i wanted to learn how to draw the artstyle and it's the reason i started drawing people more than animals! i became very quickly obsessed with the show and wanted More™ between weekly episodes and that’s when i discovered online fandom! i learnt about the concept of fanart and fanfic and i lied abt my age to make a DA account so that i could read a fancomic! i did my first RPing on (iirc) TV.com! but despite drawing and crafting and cosplaying and plotting stories, I was still very much just lurking online
18yo - Hetalia: I finally decided to actually start interacting with other people online after making an LJ account and seeing the chaos during the Bloodbath events and wanting to participate :’D made friends in the main comm, and i credit them with convincing me to make a tumblr so that’s how i ended up here lol
19yo - Good Omens: the culmination of all the experiences i had with my previous fandoms, but for the first time bc i started actually sharing my art, cosplay, plotbunnies and fic online far more often rather than just interacting with things other people made, now people were interacting with the things i was making ;w;

Re-watching early Danny Phantom episodes, and uh. Boy are these moral messages questionable. I always had issues with episode 6, but frankly most of the "values" they're trying to push are kind of shit actually. I feel like I'm watching the conservative Christian version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Last Movie: Snowpiercer. I heard that it was a decent movie but unfortunately, it wasn't. Too many loopholes and a really lousy ending for my taste.
Currently reading: Malcolm Gaskill's (awesome surname!) book "The Ruin of Witches - Life and Death in the New World". It was awarded as the History Book of The Year in UK after its release. It's a history book, inspecting how Salem witch craze became possible and it starts from the very beginning before anyone from England had moved a single hair to USA yet.
Currently Watching: Nothing at the moment. I gave up with Buffy so...
Currently consuming: I visited an Asian market today as day after tomorrow, my sister will come here and we're going to make sukiyaki. I happened to come across with Tokimeki brand's matcha cookie sticks - like Poki rip off. As I'm a matcha slut, I had to get them. Unfortunately, they don't take like matcha at all but like burnt cookie crust.
Currently craving: I have a horrible heartburn and would like to have some ice-cream to soothe it.

The Buffy Re-watch: S2E4 (part 2)
Inca Mummy Girl
Teaching Ampata how to eat a Twinkie. You can actually buy Twinkies in the UK, just have to go to certain shops. But I have never bought one or eaten one.
Of course Ampata wants the seal destroyed, she wants to live.
After all that effort of trying to convince Giles to let her go, Buffy has to do her slayer thing anyway.
Xander asking Ampata if she is a praying mantis. She's not but she will still kill you if you get with her.
Chosen one stories. The slayer and the princess, they do have there similarities, both end in tragedy. Twice actually. Ampata dies twice, first when she is sacrificed and then at the end of the episode. For Buffy it was at the end of season 1 and the next will be at the end of season 5.
Close calls for Buffy and Ampata in getting to see some secrets exposed.
Okay, the translating salivating American boy talk was a bit funny.
Dingoes Ate My Baby, good name for a band.
I love the dedication Willow puts into her costume.
Sven the Swede is a Viking and Cordy is an ass
Hey look, it's the first appearance of Jonathan played by Danny Strong. Dude suffers a lot in this show, but I do lose sympathy for him in season 6. I'll talk about that when I get there.
Ampata and Xander dancing, it's a nice moment shot pretty well.
Oz notices Willow for the first time and immediately likes her. Also Oz and Tara> Xander and Kennedy.
Giles has a crappy car, surely with his Watcher's salary he could afford a better car?
Sven is annoyed with Cordy. Anyone would be if they were spoken to in the way that Cordy spoke to him. I feel for the guy, and he has to live with her the whole time he is in the States.
The lighting in the scene with Jonathan, Ampata and Xander is beautiful. The kiss between Ampata and Xander is done wonderfully too.
Giles is just having the time of his life fixing the seal. I would not be surprised if he did jigsaws for fun, the really complicated ones with thousands of pieces. Jigsaws are fun for all ages is what I'm saying.
Bad timing OZ, you'll get there one day.
Buffy and Giles are trapped in the sarcophagus together.
Poor Xander, he really did like her.
How did Buffy explain Ampata's disappearance to her mother?
Ampata was a victim, but through wanting her life back she became an almost reluctant villain. She was just a 16 year old girl and had so much responsibility thrust on to her shoulders that she lost out on the things that a person her age should have been able to do. The same goes for Buffy in some way, just without the killing people part. Another example is Dana from the season 5 episode 'Damaged' in Angel. She was an innocent victim but because of the trauma she suffered and her new found slayer abilities she became the villain. She was just a very hurt and scared girl who didn't deserve to suffer.

5 days (!) until the final chapter of A Secret Uncovered! (Are you guys excited yet? Only 5 more days!)
Today we have 5 common questions I’ve never properly answered.
Why the lettuce wraps? - So literally the day I wrote this chapter I went to PF Changs for the first time, so it was totally on my mind. I just thought they were so fun and unique at the time. I was also a bit of an immature writer so I pulled on a lot of my personal experiences (aka I like this so the main character must like it too) instead of thinking about what the character would actually obsess over. But now it’s a thing and I don’t intend to change it.
Did I know where it was going when I started it? - Nope, absolutely not. Originally it was going to be an exploration of a reveal and then I realized in about chapter 4 that I needed a plot. Then that plot ended up becoming a thing.
Inspiration? - I wanted a deeper dive into the post-reveal. I wanted a full on fic that looked at every aspect of the post-reveal process. I carefully chose each interaction that Danny had post-reveal to really showcase all these different aspects and give them the time they needed so we could really sit in those moments.
(Spoiler for current chapters already posted) Was I always going to kill that character? - I was always going to kill someone. I watched a lot of Buffy and Firefly when I planned this out and knew the impact that the right death could cause to readers and to characters. I didn’t really know who that would be until I finished the chapter. Tucker, Vlad, and Jack were also possibilities I toyed with, but in the end I picked the person Danny relied on the most.
Why did Dash choose to bully Danny? - So back when this was written in the early 2000s, there wasn’t the big push in the phandom to redeem Dash. Some fics existed, but there really wasn’t much. So it made sense to me at the time for Dash to continue to bully Danny, and from a story perspective I thought it introduced some additional conflict for Danny to deal with through school. But I’m addressing his reasons for this at the end and I think I’ve got a suitable reason for his actions and a nice way the two of them are going to act towards each other moving forward.
