Cyberchase - The Grim Wreaker Ship (as portrayed in Season 2 Episode 3 "Harriet Hippo and the Mean Green")
I really like the design that they went with for the internals of the Grim Wreaker, particularly during the episode "Harriet Hippo and the Mean Green". Up to this point, we had seen the exterior plenty of times, as well as the ramp leading inside. We had also seen the shuttle bay, where The Hacker stored Dr. Marbles's Cybercoop during that first episode. And of course, we had seen the bridge, where The Hacker piloted the ship from, plenty of times.
Tumblr media
However, this episode was the first one to have the kids actually explore the ship for a bit. The were mainly looking for the kitchen, so that they could get the wig gel cubes to undo Wicked's spell. However, this may actually be the most comprehensive look we've gotten of the internals, even over 20 years later.
When Jackie and Inez initially arrive, we can see that the walls are mostly a light purple. Most people were probably expecting Puce, given The Hacker's love of Puce. Personally, I like this color better. Would you call those conduits turquoise or aquamarine? I'm not sure if these conduits are cryoxide piping, water piping, or some sort of cabling. We see a big blue junction box in the top right with one of those conduits running to it. I have no idea what those sloping red-violet objects are, but we see more conduits running between them.
Tumblr media
Some of the red-volet boxes seem to have vents on them. If they all had them, then I would say that maybe they were baseboard heating. We can see a hallway trailing off into the distance. We can see large light fixtures spaced out here and there along the ceiling. We also see some of the smaller aquamarine conduits being swallowed by red-violet conduits. We can also see plenty more of those blue junction boxes with red dots, which could be buttons or lights.
Tumblr media
I love how big the interior of the ship is. The kids look so small, especially in this scene. I see something that looks like a coffee machine. It could be some other type of vending machine, but there's no window to show your choices. At the time time, the place where I assume the cup would be filled with coffee is awfully low for The Hacker to reach. Maybe this is something for Buzz.
Tumblr media
Okay, I can see some pressure gauges coming out of some of the aquarmarine pipes. I think these are Cryoxide pipes to keep various parts of the ship cool. However, I don't think that those curved aquamarine conduits are Cryoxide pipes. I think those are power cables (or Ethernet cables). How big is this place on the inside?
Tumblr media
I suppose I can't talk about this episode without bringing up one of the dumbest/funniest Buzz and Delete scenes. Jackie and Inez are trapped with nowhere to hide. Buzz and Delete are coming down the hall, and they will surely catch the girls. So, Jackie and Inez do the only thing they could do.
Tumblr media
And it works. Later, we see The Hacker's dining room and kitchen. Of course, he has a large portrait of himself as a master chef. We also see some blue conduits. Given that one goes into a cupboard, while another one goes to a light fixture, these are probably for electrical cabling.
Tumblr media
What is that thing on top of his fridge? Is that some kind of alcohol distillery ice cream maker?
Tumblr media
We also get to see his bedroom. We see his rug with his own face it. We see his portrait of himself as a king. We see that he has either a computer terminal or television at the foot of his bed. I'm not sure why this room has a more gray aesthetic. I like that he has windows looking out into Cyberspace that appear to have been placed randomly. But why does he have a disco ball over his bed? Why did we never get to see him actually wear those pajamas as a call-back?
