In the Generation V games, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, and Soul Silver, there is a glitch that rarely affects the ability Cute Charm. When the Pokemon with Cute Charm is in the first slot of your party and you encounter a wild Pokemon using this glitch, any Pokemon that appears has a much, much higher chance than usual of being a shiny. This only affects Pokemon that aren’t only a single gender or genderless, but does affect stationary encounters, like Drifloon.

This is one of gen 4′s weirdest and most obscure glitch. The cute charm glitch basically allows for a huge increase in shiny odds (like 20%?) if you have a specific trainer id and secret id. Very cool stuff, and this video is my experience with it! 

Pokemon Bank has fully rolled back into ?99 after counting down to ?01, so I think it's safe to say Bank won't die until after Legends Z(bc the Kalos Dex has the last three lines of Pokemon currently not on the switch) so I'd say it's safe for another year unless otherwise stated by TPC

So if you were worried about finishing games/shiny hunting certain Pokemon, you're safe to do so for now

it is!! actually, it's not that uncommon to happen—under very specific circumstances. that video was taken on my platinum file, which has a Trainer ID/Secret ID that meets the conditions for the Cute Charm exploit! i feel like I might've explained this on this blog before, but it's still cool so i'll give a quick summary:

Cute Charm makes you ≈67% more likely to encounter Pokemon of the opposite gender. In Gen IV, it does this by forcing a specific set of 25 personality values that are consistent across every copy of the game. Meanwhile, a Pokemon's Shininess is determined by a combination of its personality value in tandem with the TID/SID of the save file it is on (that's why it's possible for non-Shiny eggs to hatch as Shiny Pokemon when traded to another save file). If you don't have a matching TID/SID you will basically never encounter a shiny with a Cute Charm user in your party, because these rolled values are determinate and unchangeable. (The exception being if Cute Charm fails to take effect and random values are generated instead.)

But you can probably guess what happens when you roll a TID/SID that happens to read some of those forced values as shiny! At its highest, each Pokemon you encounter has a 20% chance to be shiny. Which is how I was able to record that video. I genuinely had to move my Cute Charm user out of the lead during my playthrough because I genuinely would not have been able to escape Eterna Forest otherwise, LOL. An excess of shininess causes these crashes in double battles—not unlike Midas and his accursed golden touch. Such is a suitable punishment for bending reality to my whims. (More specific information + stuff about RNG manipulation here!)

I have a 1 in 5 chance of encountering shiny Pokemon in grass patches in my Diamond game with my Lopunny who hates my guts so fucking much.

I hate Poke Radar chaining. I don’t like small grass rustles or the big grass rustles. I don’t like the kricketune. I don’t like the delelelewhooooop. do not whoop at me on this 25 chansey chain. you are a liar.

"oh i should do the gen 4 national dex it will be a fun relaxing summer fun activity" i tell myself like a fool. i make my little spreadsheet. Oh, I Can Get Torchic Via Pokewalker! How Simple! I am a fool. I have been pokewalkering for 3 hours straight with no torchic. i know its there because i encountered one (1) torchic and it fled from me like a coward. im convinced this map is cursed . fuck sightseeing (the pokewalker map not the concept) and dont even get me started on the johto safari zone. "what if we made catching pokemon unenjoyable" they said. There is no skill there is only balls and it costs 500P just to run around like an idiot trying to find fuckign. lombre or whatever. who even cares. the johto safari zone is so beloved because it is in HGSS and everyone loves these games and they have different terrains and many different pokemon. but everyone who loves it is a fool. why is it entirely luck based. what do you mean rare pokemon can simply leave at any time for any reason for funsies. i cannot fathom shiny hunting in this godforsaken place. "oh let me place 10 rocks down randomly in the grass, rhydon will love this" <- statement by the utterly deranged. and then there's the grinding. i love fighting gym leaders over and over again, i say, like a liar. i love the pokewalker except for right now, when i need a torchic, and i am so so sleepy, why was torchic even in this thing. the other maps all have a theme to them, but torchic is out of left field. what does this bird have to do with sightseeing. i sure as hell am NOT sight SEEING it jesus christ please i just . need torchic . for my pokedex. i havent even finished the regional pokedex yet because of the grinding, because i am at the Home Stretch so to speak for grinding. the only pokemon left i need are like, dragonite adn tyranitar and mewtwo and lugia who are all such high levels and dear god i am so tired. i havent beat red yet; why is his team in the 80s. who designed this. i have like almost 150 hours in this game and my team is not even at the 60s yet. this is going to take forever.

I am not one to be negative about Pokemon but Scarlet/Violet is the second worst main game on Switch (BDSP is the worst mostly for being a disappointment)

Legends has better shiny hunting

Sword/Shield had better raids

I didn't play Let's Go as much as the others but it is polished and an enjoyable experience

All three run better than SV and have fewer glitches
