Hot take, apparently, but

a) Percy's hair in TLOVM isn't that bad. It's simple and effective and the built-in shading really helps give dimension to his head. And, more importantly...

b) consider that in the earlier concept art, he does have cool hair. So the hair he ended up with was a conscious choice by Taliesin and Phil Bourassa (and any other artists involved in the process).

Look. He went from this...

... to this:

It doesn't seem all that easier to animate (and if Percy being a pain in the ass was an issue, wouldn't the simplified coat/etc. already accomplish that?), but the main thing that stands out is how much younger it makes Percy look.

Which, y'know, is important, given S1 focuses on his trauma suffered as a teenager. Which was not all that long ago.

He is young, the second youngest of Vox Machina! And a core part of Percy's character is that, despite thinking he and Vex are the only adults in the room, he is not nearly as mature as he thinks he is. Which is also apparent in his more silly moments in S2, which are also complimented by the more boyish hairstyle.

Percy shouldn't be taken too seriously, which I think is emphasized by how much Taliesin makes a point to underline his flaws and bully the character when he can. With the gunslinging and shock-white hair and cool coat and shadow demon and a castle to put it all in, he's already bordering on too cool; making him look like a stud when he's really just a nerd would make it harder to pull off comedic moments with him. On top of emphasizing the horror of what happened to him at the hands of the Briarwoods and Ripley; he's still so young.

And as an audience we need to be reminded of that when he's pulling off a cool pose or trying to flirt with Vex or getting all raspy with the Orthax voice.

Anyways, art is subjective, but Percy as a character walks the fine line between 'coolass anime protagonist' and 'cringefail nerd' and I think the artists and Taliesin knew what they were doing refusing to let him be too #badass or #hot when he's an early-mid twenties nerd wailing that he's very flammable and sniffling pathetically after giving a girl he coat.

#Once he kisses Vex then he can get cool hair. not a moment before.#and odds are good that WILL happen with the duck hair. presumably Vex finds him attractive with the duck hair #also to be clear I DO expect him to get a bit of a redesign after the Chroma Conclave. both bc character development and ~stuff~#but for now this is the start of his character arc and we need to remember he's barely older than Keyleth. as much as he'd pretend otherwis #tlovm #the legend of vox machina #percival de rolo #seriously guys just. think about character design instead of 'NOT HOT ENOUGH :C' for 5 seconds?

RULES:

Only Fictional Characters Allowed!

Only submit a character set once! Please no cheating, I am going to do my best to include as many as I can

That being said I am going to limit it to 2-3 characters from one source

Cringefail losers are best described by me as the archetype of: Pathetic men, but really its anyone whose cringefail, pathetic, or a pathetic losers.

Some characters that are for sure getting in are: Matthomule from The Owl House, Childe from Genshin Impact, Rick Shades from Epithet Erased, Lars Barriga from Steven Universe, and Kai Smith from Ninjago so you do not need to nominate them

I've recently stepped away from the warriors fandom because after years of just getting angry and pissed with people I've realized that the issue is just there's a real lack of nuanced thinking that happens here. Characters aren't allowed to just be assholes, they need to be villains or abusers, and if you like those asshole characters you're an abuse apologist or support XYZ or some shit. Especially if the character is contentious like, for example, Nightcloud and Crowfeather. If you like Crow youre a misogynist and an abuser and hate women but if you like Night you are an abuse apologist as well but a different flavor this time. I like Crowfeather and Nightcloud's cringefail marriage, it is not that deep. If you like Sparkpelt then obviously you must hate Nightheart or vice versa. Like holy shit it's multiple shades of gray here people it's not black or white it's not one or the other. I am multifaceted I am able to like women who deserved to be treated better by the narrative and the authors and I can also like cringe shit fail whiney men who should die. It truly is not any deeper than that, they're talking fictional cats and I go outside.

Also this is like the only fandom I've seen still knee-deep in stupid petty infighting lgbt+ discourse that no one irl over the age of 15 will give any shit about so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the fandom overall lacks an ability to think.

Starting this show because everything I’ve seen about Tamerlane Usher specifically convinced me that there was a new overworked cringefail girlflop out there for me to adopt like a feral, little kitten.

The shadow of Eliza moving in the background behind Dupin aughdnehshs. The way the dialogue makes you pay attention to what’s behind him so you can’t miss that ghost.

In the latter especially, he gets to embody so many complicated emotions: his disgust at roderick, his horror at what happened to the usher family, his reluctant curiosity as roderick goes on and on…

Making me wanna clanmew my troll ocs for fun. Especially since soldier purrbeasts canonly exist to trolls

you're all mean to me. You are al soooo mean to Mr. Bonefall and his cringefail tastes.

Anyway here's the color words they'd associate with each caste, in Base Clanmew terms. Words that already existed will be in italics (So we don't add them to the lexicon twice)

Maroon = Owanb Dark red. The color of wounds and coagulating blood, the bright red of scarlet seen in yew and thin blood is Rey.

Copper = Yaryen This is the word being used for Copperwing, it's an orange-brown color that could be translated as Bronze too.

Yellow = Aween Dandelion-yellow specifically, not golden, Rreen, which is orange-yellow. This is the color of wild mustard, a type of plant, as well.

Gray = Grrim I made a new word for gray to round-out the shades of Gray they have in Clanmew. Ssoen is silver (lightest gray), Shub is standard gray (lighter), Urrn (dark-gray) is an overcast gray, and lastly, Grrim is the darkest gray you can get before hitting a shade of black.

Chartreuse = Rrech Sickly yellow-green, the type seen in unhealthy leaves and such

Verdant/Lush = Lolol Dark, rich green. Much darker and less bright than Holro green.

Blue = Lupar This is a part of the spectrum that gets dicey. Blue is actually pretty rare in nature, besides a clear sky...... in England, which makes it even rarer. The main source of blue paint is from a plant called Woad.

Dark Blue = Lubro Specifically, this means blue-black. The color of the night sky, and of shiny corvids like ravens. Again, blue is a rare color in Clanmew, with only two unique words that describe its shades.

Purple = Palifuh Comes from a contraction of color (paliu) + Yeifuh (Sweet Violet). A rare color, mostly describing some flowers and sunsets.

Pink = Beka The bright pink color seen on the elephant hawkmoth, apple blossoms, and so on. At this point we're in colors better described as pink because Clanmew has so many fewer words for types of purple!

Blush = Powliu This comes from a contraction of trout + color, but describes the color of uncooked fish meat generally. RiverClan can be quite adamant that if you cook the color out of the meat, you have RUINED it. It's a VERY light pink, almost white. I've chosen to make its translation 'blush,' because cats don't blush otherwise and this allows the color to be used in names! Fuschia is also, notably, a plant that is in the area... but only in towns. As a bonus;

Fuschia = Meyfoope A SkyClan-dialect exclusive! This is a VERY popular plant in suburbs, growing in large bushes. SkyClan cats find it very strange and interesting, and call it "(dog) violet-bell." This isn't a color, but it does translate a word directly for your purposes.

yeah i'm still on my Bundt nonsense but this time featuring the chefs and not the cake

This is Chef Torte. And also Chef Torte's Assistant. Some kinda troopa with chef accessories.

I say to that: completely understandable, as not every minor 'only in the story for a few scenes' character deserves a unique model.

But I decided 'hey why don't I give them unique looks?'

Here's a complete sheet of the three I'm on about. Not well done or polished but I am just trying to share my concepts.

Here is an individual sketch of Chef Torte's Assistant, who, by the previous page you can see, I'm calling Shelly. Their full name and gender vary by what's most comical in the scene. (Shelly for anything else, but when he, Sheldon)

And then the passionate German geezer who will fist fight the Mario Mario in order to have his work appreciated of the hour, Chef Torte. I can't type in his silly voice just yet but I am trying. Zees iz hard.

My favorite part was trying to figure out how to evoke the Helmets without giving them helmets.

They're civilian chefs. Why do they need battle gear? The answer: they don't. So I took it.

But their helmets are part of their canon design so I decided to pay homage at least a little: Chef got more than Apprentice, with his silly sideburns and shades. The spike on Shelly is the best I got, because I wanted them to be different from the chef.

Anyways if you do like my ideas feel free to steal them: I need more Bundt content in the world.

IF i had to choose a favourite most likely thk/pv, im a real sucker for tragedies and my god is their entire life an encapsulation of one LMAO their cut dream dialogue showing them struggling with their purpose as an empty vessel vs their thoughts, feelings, voice etc... pain. unimaginable pain. yes i HAVE cried to their ost(s) before. the knight/little ghost is a little friend of whom i adore and im shaking team cherry to answer as to how they (and a few other kin) escaped the abyss, and also wtf the shade lord is up to... i also just wanna know how all the siblings are doing now!! dammit!!! are they ok!!!! points. pale king. dude was challenged by the radiance after tearing her people from her thrall to his, went "bet" and immediately resorted to sacrificing like a million children and then yoinked 1 kid (chosen for reasons unexplained) to contain said god inside. but then also i feel incredibly bad for him if it's true that he knew his plan would fail anyways after sacrificing so much for the kingdom. just a sad wet cringefail man all around id also throw him into the dead baby pit for a little while radiance, radiance my beloved. shes so funny to me, her clout got stolen and shes been mad abt it since. a real "if i cant have it no one can" kinda lady. honestly? amazing. i find her beef with PK incredibly fascinating, like theyre just 2 bug gods playing tug of war whilst hallownest suffers for it. i spin her around in my mind w escalator music playing.... superb eternally mad moth woman. ppl keep trying to paint pk or radiance as one being more justified than the other but honestly theyre both morally dubious and its great. points at the bug god drama and laughs

19. most disliked popular book? uhhh fifty shades maybe? i haven't read it though, i'm just not wild about u kno. its everything from what i've heard. THO U KNO WHAT, on that basis for eligibility, i'll say a song of ice and fire. game of thrones was a fucking mistake and i don't like the cultural impact is has left on media. so. asoiaf. have i read it? no. will i? no. but i dislike it for its impact alone. (also the hobbit was really hard to read so i havent picked up lotr and probably never will soorrryyyyy)
