I think Kelsey from Craig of the Creek and Craig tucker from South Park should meet.

They would bond over the hyperfixations on their pets and would talk about every pet they’ve had (either a stripe or a Mortimer) and share ways to take care of them

Also they’re both in the same age range, so I feel like it would just be little neurodivergent kid conversation

13. Clover - safety, protection from evil

One day at the Creek…

Kelsey: Mortimer? Mortimer where are you?

Craig: He’s got to be around here somewhere…

JP: Guys, look, at that patch of clovers!

Then out from the patch, comes Mortimer, wearing chest armor with a clover in the middle.

Kelsey: Whoa, Mortimer, that’s some sweet armor! (Thinks for a moment) Is there armor for me in that clover field?

However, Mortimer doesn’t answer… He just looks over the horizon… The spirit of the armor telling him to protect his dear warrior and her friends from the upcoming danger… And by the name of the Creek, he will do just that.

Clover can transform itself into armor for the user to wear. With it, the user’s defense increases, protecting them (and their loved ones) from any magical or physical damage.

I drew Mortimer the bird to show how the spirit’s armor looks for two reasons:

I really wanted to draw Mortimer because he’s a cute bird.

Because I feel if anything needs protection right now, it’s animations like Craig of the Creek… However, more on my feelings on that as I have a different drawing for it.

Hey I don’t know if this will get any attention, but here goes nothing.

How many people here have heard of a Cartoon Network show called Craig of the Creek? Likely not many, but I promise you it’s a show worth watching, as well as the last original show on Cartoon Network, and it needs your help.

So what does this show have to offer?

It stars a trio of characters:

Craig, a kid who loves exploring the Creek that’s located behind the neighborhood in Herkelton, Maryland. He makes a map with extensive details about the various locations where other kids hang out, as well as makes inventions like an elevator chair that allows him and his friends to get in and out of their place, the Stump. He also takes his purse full of equipment full of items to make maps on the go.

Kelsey, the smallest of the trio, but also the fiercest. She wields a sword made of pbc pipe, has a cape, and is training hard to be the best warrior in the Creek alongside her tiny parakeet companion, Mortimer.

John Paul, aka JP, the oldest and tallest of the trio. He’s rarely seen without his iconic striped shirt. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty and acts as the trio’s heart as well as an older voice of reason.

Aside from the main trio, there’s a large assortment of other kids within the Creek, each with their own distinct identity as well as voice. Examples include:

Kit, the merchant of the Creek who runs the titular Trading Tree. She’s very keen on making sure business runs smooth, and also likes making a nice profit.

Bobby, a small kid with a sweet tooth who exclaims “My candy” after falling down. But he’s also a master of disguises and impersonation, and goes to great lengths to make sure he gets his sweet treats.

The Elders of the Creek, a trio of young adults who play DnD sessions at the Creek, and act as a source of advice for the younger generations who hang out at the Creek as our main trio. They comprise of Elder David, Elder Mark, and Kenneth.

The Witches of the Creek, two teens named Tabitha and Courtney who pretend to have magical powers to do something fun aside from working at a smoothie shop in Herkelton. But strangely enough, it may appear that they do have powers of some sort. They’re also a couple.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, THIS SHOW HAS A LOT OF CUTE LGBTQ REP! Which might have to do with the fact that one of the show creators, Matt Burnett, was a former writer of Steven Universe. Some examples include:

Kelsey, who’s noted to have crushes on other female characters, and recently got into a relationship with Stacks, a kid who mostly spends time at the library and is knowledgeable at gathering information.

The Witches of the Creek, a sapphic couple.

The Secret Keeper and George, a gay couple who recently got together.

The Honeysuckle Rangers, comprising of Raj, who’s Indian, and Shawn.

The show also has a bunch of representation.

Raj, as mention before, is Indian, and acted as a translator for his grandmother, who speaks Gujarati.

Jackie, who shows up later in the show, is deaf, and communicates via ASL.

Stacks is Mexican, and speaks Spanish as well as has knowledge of folklore from Latin America.

There’s also a lot of black representation, in part to Craig and his family being black.

If people like this, I might make a part two as to why you should give Craig of the Creek a try!

Fell out of a tree and broke his arm twelve days after he started playing at the creek

more scared of heights than he lets on

tried to rip out a baby tooth with the string-on-a-doorknob thing, but chickened out

whenever he meets somebody of a ethnicity he hasn't heard of before, he spends at least ten minutes reading the wikipedia article on the culture

his favorite colors are green and yellow

watched Gravity Falls (kins Dipper)

Kelsey:

hates all christmas movies except for home alone

claims she's not scared of anything, but she's really scared of snakes

likes orange soda

has read every single book in the percy jackson franchise twice

got the first mortimer after her mom's passing (she wanted a komodo dragon)

has discalculia

knows a lot of old showtunes because her dad really likes broadway

doesn't like gum

takes gymnastics

JP:

autistic (special interest is dinosaurs, among other things)

also adhd

EXTREMELY clumsy

took ballet lessons for two years starting when he when I was six

allergic to kiwi and latex

bullied in school

has a cactus named Larry (it's plastic, but don't tell him that)

likes nature documentaries

has a collection of cool rocks he found at the creek

one of the best things about craig of the creek is all the different family structures represented

craig lives with his mom, dad, and siblings. he visits his grandparents often. his family is close, and they spend a lot of time together

kelsey lives with just his dad (and mortimer), because her mom died. she spends a lot of time alone, which she generally doesn't mind, but we learn she sometimes gets bored of his dad rambling about his job all day and wishes she had someone at home to play with

jp lives with his mom and older sister, while his dad lives in another country (his parents are divorced). jp's sister very often takes care of him because their mom works out very late and she is old enough to take care of a child. jp generally gets a lot of freedom at home. he's allowed to eat in front of the tv and stays up later than craig or kelsey, which we also learn is related to how late his mom gets home: he only gets to see her for a moment pretty late at night

jason....clearly comes from a neglectful family who are not there for him at all. there were a lot of signs already but the episode where it is made extremely clear hits so fucking hard. jason is welcome at craig's house and craig's mom treated him like her son the night he had to stay there

raj lives with his dad and granny (i don't remember if he has another parent?). the sewer queen has a big family (similar to craig, actually)

i just like how there's variety and different family dynamics are explored. i can't think of others right now but i know there's more examples

I have an idea!

Which I’m already working on.

You see, I’m a huge fan of COTC (Craig of the creek). COTC is a Cartoon Network show of a boy named Craig Williams and his three friends (I say three because Mortimer counts). They play in the creek throughout basically the whole series. (SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED COTC BEFORE)

Later in the series we’re introduced to a new character, The green poncho/Omar. The series has a lot of lore which I wish would have more theory’s but, oh well.

Continuing with my idea:

I am also a fan of the popular anime MHA/BNHA, the main cast being the heroes of U.A, in class 1A there is a supporting character named Tokoyami Fumikage. (I know I’m taking a painstakingly long time but bare with me)

Now, this had me thinking. What if I kinda combined Omar and Tokoyami? Sounds weird but I think it’s a pretty good idea.

Give me your opinion!

i asked my nephew to watch craig of the creek with me (because he’s been talking about it nonstop and i’m a good uncle lol), and it’s so cute! kelsey reminds me of me when i was little, and i love mortimer so much. we’re on like episode 3 and i already love this
