the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"
just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order#at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers#90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent#like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries#but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate#and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something#cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare#and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity#and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media#and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons#and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators#instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period#anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives#so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world#(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin#oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value#and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the#important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)

"Do any of you know a John Constantine?" Said the boy standing inside the summoning circle with a briefcase, stance casual, relaxed. "I've heard he works for the uh-" His eyes roam over the every person in the room, past the cultist standing in front of him, past the unconscious ones, before finally stopping on both Batman and Superman before snapping his fingers. "Right, the Justice League and I know those two are apart of it, so I'm assuming the other ones are also in or affiliated with them."
Slowly, a few of them turned to look at Constantine, who took the lull to light himself a smoke and then walked forwards, hands in his pockets until he stopped by the head cultist and barely batting an eye he uppercuts them, knocking them to the ground and reaching for his smoke with a hand. "That's me."
The boy's eyes roamed up and down Constantine's form with a single minded, unnatural focus that threatened to send a slight shiver down Constantine's back that he suppressed. This continued for about a minute, before an expression of disgusted disappointment crossed the boy's face.
Constantine raised an eyebrow. "Got a problem with me, kid?"
The boy grimaced, before reaching an arm forward all too quickly and pushing the briefcase into the warlock's chest. "I-It's for you." The boy sounded far too pained to utter such words, as if speaking to Constantine physically harmed him while averting his eyes.
Constantine grabbed hold of it with his other hand, looking down at the case. "This is...?"
"Open it and see." The boy said, stepping back to the farther end of the circle. "Now, if you excuse me. I shall take my leave."
With a flash, the boy left, and the circle quieted down from a bright glow back to just a drawn circle over the floor.
"Constantine-"
"I know Batsy, 'debrief first, open it later'. Don't need to tell me once." Constantine turned around, and over to the group of heroes, disregarding the unconscious body on the floor and walking over it.
===
"Sooo," Flash began. "Anyone wandering what's in the case?"
Batman glanced over at him, and Flash brought his hands up and shrugged. "Look, we were all wondering it."
"I wonder as well." Chimed in Wonder Woman with a smile.
Small murmurs of agreement rang through the table, and Batman looked stared at all for a good, long and hard minute, before moving his gaze over towards Constantine. Everyone else did so as well.
Constantine light another smoke, uncaring for Superman's small grimace, and placed the briefcase on the table and opened it.
Whatever the Justice League was expecting, it was not for an avalanche of letters to spill from the case, knocking Constantine and his chair over and slamming open the rest of the case.
From the ceiling rained letters, and Batman took a hold of one, staring at the expensive looking paper that glowed with a slight green shine, carefully and expertly sealed with a seal in the shape of a heart.
'From Vlad Masters, to John Constantine." It read.
"It seems our shifty warlock found himself an admirer." Wonder Woman's smile took on a more playful edge.
Below an ever growing pile of white of red, Constantine despaired over the loss of a perfectly good cigarette.

It was an Easter gift from my grandma given to me via my father so idk where she got it. Anyway, put the purchase on my card. Haul upcoming. All the old ladies gathered around the register to ogle my counterfeit $50 and I was like “I’m so sorry I’m so so so sorry.”

@ People who are worried about buying secondhand because it isn't directly giving money to a doll company: buying secondhand is actually a huge help to the community! Supporting other people buying dolls, finding homes for dolls that would otherwise be neglected... have you seen how often people talk about how even decently priced dolls are slow to sell secondhand? YOU can help with that! A healthy secondhand market supports the BJD community just as much as buying new, if not more. People may very well be less likely to buy a specific doll from the company if they worry about difficulties selling it if they don't bond with it or it otherwise isn't to their tastes when it arrives. But a healthy secondhand market means that people can be more confident buy a doll new in the first place! It's like symbiosis or something. Idk. But I do think it's silly to act like buying secondhand harms companies as much as, say, buying a recast. Supporting a flourishing legit BJD community will help everyone in it!

soft things Peter/001 does to show that he loves the reader
How Peter Ballard Shows His Love
headcanons
Tumblr media
summary: the little things peter does to show his love for you
pairing: peter ballard x reader
warnings: none :)
note: i could look for gifs of jamie all day he’s literally breathtakingly beautiful please send more 001 requests i could talk about him for hours !!
Tumblr media
I feel like Peter wants to be so affectionate he just isn’t super sure how to go about it.
Your relationship is still a secret, so PDA isn’t really an option. He does, however, sneak into your room late at night during the guards’ shift changes.
He actually really loves to cuddle. At first, he was a little awkward because he didn’t have much experience but he eventually really warmed up to the idea.
He especially loves to hold you !! When he’s feeling a little overwhelmed or anxious, though, he’ll ask you to hold him, which is really nice because it means that he trusts you enough to be vulnerable.
The staff gets very little time outside, however he spends that time finding the prettiest flowers to pick for you. He’ll press them into a notebook and give it to you whenever he can.
He tends to show his love through acts of service. He’ll make sure that you have breakfast, he’ll organize your things for you, he’ll take your shift if you’re tired, etc. He likes to do little inconspicuous things like that for you.
He’ll also take the blame for anything you do wrong, which often subjugates him to hours of electric shock punishments, but he never regrets it. He’d rather take the blame for all your wrongdoings than let you get hurt.
He really likes to hold your hand. He’ll play with your fingers or rings, especially if he’s feeling anxious.
On some occasions, he takes the risk of falling asleep in your bed. He knows that he’ll have difficulty sneaking back to his room before morning, but he adores watching you sleep peacefully. He really enjoys quiet moments like that, it makes him feel more human.
He creates multiple plans to help you escape, even if he can’t come with you. You usually choose to stay, refusing to leave him behind, but the thought is incredibly appreciated.
He has a few books that he likes to reread to you whenever he can. Late at night, he’ll lay in your bed, one hand supporting his head and the other holding a book, while you lay quietly on his chest.
He always remembers your birthday !! Nobody really celebrates things like that in the lab but he’ll always make sure to have a small gift for you or extra time to spend with you on this day.
He lets you play with his hair !! It’s really a win-win because his hair is so soft that you could play with it for hours and he adores having his hair played with. It puts him to sleep so fast !!
Every now and then, when he’s feeling soft or is missing you, he’ll write you a little letter detailing how much you mean to him and he’ll slip it under your door.
He’s very caring !! He’ll always check up on you and make sure you’re doing okay.

I'd like to imagine that Danny finds John Constantine absolutely delightful and Constantine is just like "dang it it's this worm-off-the-string dude again :/"
Danny's all "wowow it's the cool magic man who found a loophole for immortality! He has a cool magic house too"
And Connie is just "does it LOOK like I'm running a daycare?? Go home"
I also want Vlad to be enamored with him and Ellie is just like "yea that's my wet cat of a father figure. Neat"

Vlad opens up a bottle of wine, filling one glass and handing it to John Constantine "Do you know why I called you here today, Mr. Constantine?"
John takes the glass, eyeing the very expensive wine that he's wanted to try but couldn't get his hand on before today. "Because I accidently send you a booty call, perhaps? Or because I stole one of your company's magical items." Constantine shrugged and took a sip. "Either or, really."
Vlad brought his glass up to his lips, before pausing. "Accidently?"
Constantine blinks, then took another sip before shrugging. "I mean, it doesn't have to be if you don't want it to be."
Vlad resumes taking a sip, swallowed and placed down his glass. "I will admit, I was not expecting you to admit to stealing from me, but I am willing to... overlook, said slight against me."
"Is that a yes or a no?"
Vlad smiled.
"I'll take that as a yes then."
