We are back on the C25k! If you don't work out but want to get started, I can't recommend this program highly enough! (Obviously, if you've got some other challenge that means running will not be a good place to start, there are options, even if those options are just to increase your step-count for the week. Whatever you do, get started!) I've been using it off and on for years and completing an 8-week training program to get ready for a 5k run was what got us through the divorce. If you get through the full 8 weeks and decide running just isn't your thing, no hate, there's plenty of other aerobics options, but make sure you include aerobics! Just strength training is NOT enough to keep you healthy and fit!
Quick sidebar: Unless you've done something like this as an adult, you WILL NOT know whether you like to run or not. Primary school education systems do a gawdawful job of trying to get kids interested in fitness, basically throwing everything at the wall at once and picking only the kids who show natural interest in things like sports to continue teaching things like distance/endurance running. Do the WHOLE C25k before you decide if running is fun for you or not. If you're anything like me you most likely won't know for sure until you're done with the full 8 weeks! (Obviously, I'm one of the people that likes running)
Strength Training - Arm workout
Arm circles (30s)
Standing Dumbbell Curl (1x10, 1x8)
Dumbbell Kickbacks (1x10, 1x8)
Dumbbell Reverse Curl (1x10, 1x8)
Dumbbell Triceps Extension ( 1x10, 1x8)
Dumbbell Punch (1x20, 1x16)
Triceps Stretch (20s)
Standing Biceps Stretch (20s)
If you're not familiar with strength training, the notation above is pretty opaque to newbies, but anything with an 's' means "Seconds." Yeah, there's some strength training and flexibility training that stretches into minutes (which is marked with an 'm') but outside of something like yoga it's not common.
The '1x10' and such mean "One set of 10 repetitions" of whatever workout is listed.
Whither Flexibility Training?
If you followed my previous fitness blogs from before the split, you'll know I was trying to jam yoga in. It just wasn't working for me at the time and I think I'll need a coach to get started on this aspect of fitness, but I'm REALLY looking forward to it as it will help with my new career.
Super hype for the new beginning and can't wait to see where this journey takes me!

4am workout that didn’t get done until noon. But still got that muthafucka done. And I WILL beat that 15 minute mile if it’s the last thing I do. I REFUSE to become 45 years old and still not able to beat that time. Two days to go. Also, 68 push ups. Most push ups I’ve ever done in a day. I've had a couch to 5k app on my phone for about 6 months now, and today I finally did week 1 day 1. I definitely made excuses for why I didn't start right away- too cold outside, too busy, then I moved across the country, and now I'm in a much more humid climate than I ever have been. But I've been starting every day with walks, and sprinkled in some running and decided that, fuck it, it's time. It's an 8 week program, so I'll be done by the end of august. What else am I doing?
It was easier this time than it was the last time I tried a program like this, probably because I had a bit more of a cardio base, and I'm no longer living at an elevation. I've been missing being active, and since I'm not really yet in a position to join a gym, this is good for me for now. At least running is free!
I do miss having muscle though. I feel like I've lost most of the progress I made with weightlifting last year- particularly in my arms, back and shoulders. And legs. Ok so everywhere. And I know it'll come back more easily once I do start lifting again, at least more easily than it was to build. It just feels kinda bad.
I gotta say though, I love starting my day with activity. Walking, running, yoga on rainy days. That is definitely a perk of no longer having to work at 7am. I'll admit I'm an annoying morning person, but I'll embrace it, and take advantage of the quiet time I have to myself.

I used to joke with Pat Shand that no one ever asks about our stories when we post something along the lines of “so a lot of people have been asking”. I guess he gets a lot of them shits. I’ve gotten maybe handful of questions that weren’t writing related in my 20 year career. But I have been getting a shit load of “How did you lose all the weight” questions. Like a lot. Especially out in the wild. So here’s the ap things I use daily. I try to always add new shit to my routine each month but these are my mainstays. Want to know a secret? The real key to this shit? They don’t work unless you do them. 😂 Also, I’ve had this thing in my head I’ve repeatedly told myself for the last 5 years.
