Stormlight Jewelry

So I make jewelry sets, and I really want to make some sets based on Stormlight characters, and need some inspiration help. I use only metal and gemstones in my work, with the exception of the elastic wire I use for bracelets/chokers. Anyone got any stone ideas?

I also wanna do Mistborn stuff, but that is significantly harder. Metal beads are hard to find in quality, especially pure varieties. Iron, specifically, doesn’t even exist.

I am BEYOND excited to read this, omg 😭 this is such an unbelievably cool idea for a fanfic—I don’t see many interactive fanworks, and this is such a cool option for all the layers of Kaladin, Shallan and Adolin’s dynamics!!! And all the little details, like Kaladin knowing how long Shallan’s been inside by the color of her nose, and Adolin’s artsy hair dye, are such good details (and they really show how well Kaladin knows them 🥺). I’m rubbing my greedy little rat hands together trying to decide which choice to go with first, before I eventually devour them all of course 😅 AHHHH this is so exciting, I’m so pumped for another work from THEE shakadolin author themself!!!

I am. Mad, again, about the way the cosmere fandom treats Shallan and her dissociative disorder.

Take this post, for example- I don’t think the OP meant harm! But.

Just about every third post I see about Shallan&co refers to Veil and Radiant as “fake” or the like, and I just.

Seeing this shows how you treat people with dissociative disorders in general, how you think about us. My alters aren’t fake identites, they’re just. Identities. And even that’s a gross oversimplification.

Just- please treat Veil and Radiant in your memes and fanworks and essays and whatever as people. If you don’t, think about the message you’re sending to real people with dissociative disorders. If you’re writing a fic or something and worried you might be getting it wrong, reach out! I know for one I’m happy to answe questions. I know some amount of the people saying Veil and Radiant are “fake identities” or “personas” or whatever just don’t know any better, and I am more than happy to try to help people learn.

tldr: please fucking treat veil and radiant as people and not just a shitty coping mechanism, it shows how you’d treat real people with OSDD/DID

Cosmere Fanworks

NotOJebus: We've spoken before about how you don't usually read cosmere fan fiction and I was wondering what about other things people create? Like artwork or podcasts and such.

Brandon Sanderson: I barely have time to get to the books written by my friends, or the ones in the industry I feel I should be reading to keep an eye on it. I look at fanart, certainly, and post a lot of it--but I don't listen to any of the podcasts.

Who am I?

Greetings, fellow humans! My name is Naurah Deatrisya Gitany and you can refer to me as Naurah and use she/her pronouns. I am a 19-year-old Indonesian English Literature student currently in my freshman year at the University of Indonesia.

I am a bibliophile with a particular fondness for fantasy. Among my favorites are Brandon Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive as well as the rest of the Cosmere and Fonda Lee's Green Bone Saga. I write too though mainly on a Stormlight Archive roleplay on Discord while my actual manuscript only exists as a concept bouncing around in my head like a DVD screensaver. I have been listening to more folk music these days, particularly The Oh Hellos and Nadin Amizah, but I have a love for the weirder side of theater such as Dave Malloy's Ghost Quartet and Grace McLean's In the Green. I am an advocate for drinking tea in glass tankards and my natural state of being is somewhere between that of a bog witch and an aspiring historybounder eternally yearning for a year of rest and relaxation.

Please do not ask about my sleep schedule. It is a mess that horrifies even the sleeper herself.

Why Am I Here?

To quote a certain Tumblr post, "What are you doing at the witch's Sabbath?" Though, getting back on topic, this blog is where I will host my Contemporary Literature Topical Study portfolio. The topic for said portfolio and the reason it was chosen will be explained in the next post. The main focus of this blog will be literary analyses of both written and visual media though there will also be original creative content as well as reblogs of visual fanwork about the subject under the blog's spotlight. Asks and reblogs are welcome as long as you are respectful.

Why All the Yellow Roses?

While roses, especially red and pink roses, symbolize romantic love, yellow roses symbolize friendship and platonic love which will be heavily explored in the coming posts. It has a subversion of expectations vibe to it which I rather like. Moreover, yellow roses are pretty and more tasteful than copious images of men and women who I am not sure are being together in a platonic or romantic context.

Has there been any discussion of doing a Stormlight Archives fan art book or zine or some such? Seems like it would be fun things.

Yes indeed!

Check out this interesting Where is My Chull project launched and finished in 2014. It is the first one coming into my mind. The project was collaborated by the whole Tumblr fandom at that time and the final product was given to Brandon as a gift.

If you followed KALADIN album by The Black Piper, there’s a big TWoK art book due to come out maybe this year. Plenty of fan art pieces you’ve seen or never before seen will be included. Last I heard, they’ve still been preparing for it.

Also there’ve been new discussions recently, since it seems that Brandon’s team doesn’t oppose making and selling Cosmere fanworks, if permitted at first. So a fanzine sounds promising. Some of us are digging into it these days.

By the Numbers update!!

With just over a day left to sign up as a creator for Fandom Trumps Hate 2023, here's a quick roundup of all of the numbers:

We have 705 offers by 527 creators (I've had to update this three times while writing this post!). Of those, 97 are offering to work in ANY fandom! The rest have signed up offering fanworks in 273 fandoms, including 177 write-in fandoms! (To compare that with roughly the same time last year, as we approached 24 hours left to sign up for FTH2022 we had 680 offers from 525 creators in 257 fandoms including 153 write-ins … meaning we have 23 more offers in 16 more fandoms by the same number of creators for 2023 … SO FAR.)

A look at the offers, broken down by type (with last year's numbers in italics for comparison purposes) -

The orgs selected least often are The Appeal, Razom, and Violence Policy Center.

In our listed fandoms Good Omens has increased its lead and its lock on the top spot. MCU caught up with Sherlock and Teen Wolf for a brief 3-way tie for 4th place behind HP and K-pop, but has since gained an additional signup to claim that spot, leaving Sherlock and Teen Wolf tied for fifth ahead of Star Wars, Stranger things, SVSSS, The Untamed, and The Sandman.

second reaction after googling ‘what is a discord?’: It’s late where I am, so i’m a little too tired to properly figure it out, but a discord appears to be some kind of way for people to talk online, and you might be interested to know that the fandom sometimes talks on mibbit. @jazzy-kandra I think is a good person to ask about that? if you still want to create a discord then you can 100% talk to me about that but I will probably be confused so I might not be the best person for the job...
