Warning: This campaign is an edited version of  a Call of Cthulhu scenario from the Tales of the Crescent City book. While a lot has been changed, there IS spoilers for it throughout these posts.

Who is this guy and why is he following us? Why are we following him?? Why are we interreacting with mobs again??? How does this keep happening to us?????

IT IS THE NEXT MORNING. EVERYONE WAKES UP AND NOBODY (who slept over at JDS) IS MISSING, OR DEAD.

THAT’S GREAT.

Bendy even slept on top of Jack during their slumber party, trying to give the same comfort as an Beans might give. It might’ve been weird otherwise, but after all the hectic nonsense going on and not being able to feel safe going home, in this case it was welcome.

Joey slept on his research notes. 

But it is a work day (at least it’s friday,,,) so the cots are shuffled away before people start coming in and questioning the group about the spontaneous night in. And foreseeing this might be a future issue if stuff goes haywire and they have to hide out at JDS more, Joey takes the holiday opportunity to get everyone out of the office for a while.  Enjoy New Years Eve off, go party! Also New Years, to recover from the party. And also… the day AFTER New Years, to do all the things you meant to do on New Years but you were recovering from the party!! Look how nice Joey Drew is, giving so many thoughtful days off. Nobody come back until Thursday or else.

While everyone else is getting some work done, Joey checks in on Norman who didn’t even call in. He seems fine, but he’s still adamant about staying at home. Okay you do you.

(Joey sends Susie to hang out with Norman, as his inside woman and also because the Norman vs. Susie perception of the world will be nice when more things just. C h a n g e.)

The team has two big leads for trying to find Alan Leroy: Chandler Kreel and Amanda Cornish. Both of them are apparently good friends with him, and with addresses in hand, they split up to try and track down the danged clarinetist that they probably need to get to.

Jack and Sammy drive downtown to a bunch of law offices with apartments above, searching for Amanda. They’re able to get to her door pretty easily, but Amanda isn’t the one who answers. Her sister does! Luckily Jack’s there to run introductions because otherwise Sam’s scowling face probably would have just been turned away at that point. Sitting in the waiting room, Amanda soon joins them and admits that the last time she saw Alan was at a christmas party they went to… but seems to be kind of standoffish about any other information.

After some more charming by Jack, it’s revealed that she thinks he might be in trouble with the mob, and uh, Sammy… looking the way he does……. Maybe made her think they were the mob?? But with confirmation that, no, they super aren’t the mob and in fact are trying to find Alan before he possibly gets in trouble with a mob or two, she’s a bit more relaxed. Something weird is happening, because Alan really doesn’t seem like the type to be in trouble with the mob. And the last weird thing she remembers happening with Alan was… well, he got freaked out over some book she gave him for the holidays!

What’s so scary about a book? It was a pretty interesting read, here she’ll go grab it for ya!!!

Sammy is looking away Sammy is looking away Sammy refuses to look in any direction near Amanda as she, indeed, brings out a little black book with the Yellow Sign on it. 

Jack immediately feels it wiggle into his head. But at least he’s able to wrap up the conversation with her in a… semi-normal manner? While Sammy’s eyes, darting anywhere else, find a photo on the mantelpiece that features Alan Leroy and friends, hanging out at a party scrawled with the note: Skinner Place, May, 1934… and Sammy is CERTAIN he recognises the man.

Oddly, his clarinet in the photo is missing one of the extensions he'd expect for a professional player...…….

Joey and Henry take the brown Mercedes to check out Chandler Kreel, who luckily lives in a nice part of the city that feels like a Mercedes might be somewhat… less… easily noticeable. 

He answers the door but seems extremely nervous, like Amanda was. Leroy is great! So good at clarinet you wouldn’t even know he was down a finger!! Also totally a swell guy who shouldn’t be in any trouble so why are you heeerree?? 

Through Joey’s uh, storytelling skills, and Henry's good calming daditude, they get the idea he’s a loyal friend who wants to make sure he’s helping his buddy and not handing over information to the mob or any other parties that might be after Alan… Which means, he probably has information on where Alan is. Since it’d be suspicious to just plain ask, Joey goes the heartfelt “please reach out to us we’re here to help,” direction and hands off contact information. 

While returning to the car, Henry and Joey find someone oogling over it… and this time it’s not some girl trying to declare herself Henry’s lifelong love, but the pale-faced man in a black suit that’s been seen everywhere recently. Their conversation is short, as the man mentions looking for a “wandering player” that needs to be returned to his place, and he walks off after some vague threats about what happens if you are in his way. Or if you lie to him, don’t do that either.

His mask-like face doesn’t move while communicating any of this.

Henry tells Joey once they’re alone that he thinks that guy is Fowler. He has the same nervous fidget Fowler used to…

Jack and Sammy go to stop by Norman’s on the way back, and find that… his place is apparently a block down from where it used to be!! 

GREAT!!!!

When he answers the door and is immediately and frantically questioned about this, he takes a look around and confirms, shrugging and simply stating “it seems like I’ve moved.” 

He invites them in for a housewarming party.

Susie and Norman have been playing cards. There’s no updates on Avadon. Jack and Sammy update them about the few tidbits of information they’ve found, and Norman finds a piece of junk mail to hand off to Jack before they head out. Since… the address on there seems to have changed too, so if Norman ends up moving again, well… they’ll know where he is!

The four of them meet back up at JDS to exchange information about Alan Leroy, and also eject the yellow sign from Jack’s head asap. Sammy's still worked up about this clarinetist's missing E flat extension, but Joey dismisses this as old news -- obviously; he's missing a finger. Keep up, Sammy. Peter has kind of also met back up with them, leaving a message on Joey’s phone talking about sightings of the masked man going through some magic shops in the city. And the fact that despite all his digging, he really can’t find anything about where this Leroy guy came from…

Joey tries to call Peter back by memory and it doesn’t work. We’re not going to talk about the fact that Joey has Peter’s number memorized. Pulling out his phone book, indeed, Peter’s number on paper has changed and that one DOES work. 

Before they get much of a conversation going at all, Joey hangs up on Peter to try something. Instead of dialing a number in, or looking one up… he just wills himself to dial a number in to call Alan Leroy.

It kiiiindaaa works.

Joey manages to call Alan Leroy’s phone, but the same servant picks up and insists that Alan hasn’t returned home. Joey hangs up on him. 

Peter gets a call back. Okay so there’s those Magic Shops he wants to check out, and also he has a lead on the gangster guy who shot the gun during the charity event. To keep Peter from doing nonsense alone and probably being abducted to Carcosa, Jack and Joey decide to go with him to investigate magic shops, while Sammy and Henry uneasily go to the bar to find info on the gangster guy, once Sammy is reassured that this won’t be like last time and all he has to do is eavesdrop. This surely will only go well.

At the bar, Henry casually brings up the charity dinner shooting while trying to fish for information, and maybe he talks a little too much, because suddenly all eyes are on him. What! Sammy wasn’t doing any talking so Henry was just trying to… do….what Joey would do? Henry trying to do what Joey would do has never gone wrong before…

Sammy and Henry are in a mob car, only kind of against their will. They are escorted to a restaurant, where they meet the extremely average looking Italian mob boss, Johnny Nero, who wants to know what they know about this pale masked man. At first it seems like they’ve made another great terrible get-yourselves-kidnapped-by-a-mob mistake, but the boss seems surprisingly rattled, and after some grilling from Sammy, Nero admits that… he’s seen some stuff that shouldn’t be…

… and Sammy hits the nail on the head when he asks, have you seen the y͟el͜l͘ow sig̵n?

Henry steps in and decides to offer to help him… to get him on our side, and understand that we are not a threat to him, we’re simply trying to remove the same thing from the city. After some pressure, Nero is convinced, and goes through the extremely normal process of Henry writing eldritch symbols with his own blood to remove the sign from him. After the nightmare has been yeeted from his brain, Nero turns out to be a wee bit nicer: he gives us all the info he has, but insists that if we find whatever the pallid mask guy is looking for, to give it to him so he can use it to get the guy gone.

And then he kicks them out without even offering them a ride back to their car at the bar.

Wrow.

What an extremely average super not classy even mob boss. 

That’s gonna get you a terrible review on yellowp my dude.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, it’s time for

✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:*SHOPPING✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:*~~!!

The first store is called Cool Jewel Skull. It has cool jewels and skulls. Surely that’s exactly what it says in the book, because it’s extremely not a legit shop, and Jack spends the entire walk to the next shop dunking on it to keep Joey's spirits up. They did find out that not just the Phantom but Leroy had been through it though!

The next stop is an apothecary, and it does seem a lot more actually occult stuff. The guy recognizes a photo of Leroy and confirms he came through looking for protective charms, but when he went to buy one, he dropped it upon touching it and immediately left?? Then the Pallid Mask guy came through later… Not much info on him, except that he was creepy, but we already knew that. The interesting thing is though, the charm that Leroy dropped? It has the same symbol on it that Henry uses to expel the yellow sign from people’s heads. So… weird that he didn’t take it with him…. And seemed allergic to it as well.

The three leave and try to go to the last shop on the list… but the address is missing from the paper now. Like… completely gone. Joey gets the great idea to try his “I'm going to will myself there” trick and closes his eyes, imagining a route to this store he’d never been to before, and giving Jack directions to drive there. Suddenly Jack slams on the brakes and manages to keep from completely smashing into… a man in a suit… and a pale mask…. There’s definitely a dent in the bumper now though, because Jack wasn’t that quick, and apparently a moving car is not more solid than this thing is. 

Joey immediately starts cursing him out, but he insists that Joey called him?? before going around to the side of the car and opening the back seat door… where Peter is sitting. Not having this AT ALL, Joey tries to beat him out of the car with his cane, only to be thrown back against the dashboard. 

With Jack frozen in terror and Peter having an oddly difficult time moving to even the other side of the car away from this pale jerk, Joey immediately decides he cAN AND WILL RIP THIS ASSHOLE OUT OF EXISTENCE. 

And… somehow, it works.

It sure tears something into him alright, and manages to boot him out of the car, giving enough time for Joey to demand Jack step on it. And Jack, panic stricken, somehow manages to follow the command and at least not run into anything else as they drive off into the night – But just as he’s hit the gas pedal, he does feel the cold of both glass shards and … something else, as  he gets touched by a hand smashing through the window in the last second. 

Luckily Jack bought the first car on the market in the US that had safety glass so he’s not going to be fucked up much from this in the physical department, except for his wallet maybe.

Mentally though? Memories flood in… 

memories of a time he visited a dream with his eyes closed, and almost had his head removed.

After they’re at a safe distance, a shaken Peter manages to pull the door closed. 

And thank them.

Not sure if you've been asked this before but: I'm legitmately curious what your opinions are on the concept of Nothern (English)/Nothrumbrian Independence are. I know some people see them as a bit of a meme or a way to draw attention to issues affecting parts of England that are often ignored, and I understand it's inheriently different from Scottish, Welsh and Cornish independence/nationalism, just curious what your opinion is on it.

I think the north of England needs to approach it pragmatically. If they were to seriously start pushing for it now, they'd be at the very beginning of their journey. The first thing they should do is genuinely decide on a party that'd campaign specifically for devolution of powers to a northern assembly. I think they'd have to be pragmatic that independence for the north of England probably won't happen in their lifetime. They'd be in it for the long haul unless there is *massive* upheaval that dissolves the UK.

Modern AU Cat Batch

Hcs for a modern AU where each batcher has their own kitty that looks remarkably like their very own cat avatar.

(TW for mentions of euthanasia and past animal neglect and abuse)

- Starting with Hunter, his cat companion is a long haired tortoiseshell they adopted off the streets. He's their first cat and ironically Hunter becomes the most attached to him despite being the most opposed to getting a pet. Because cats are a big responsibility and not to mention costly, but also he definitely doesn't get up at 6 am to feed the cat before anyone else and that's definitely not lap space he's making for it and of course it was Omega who picked out the red collar with the skull pendant. Trust me.

- Tech's furry friend is a Modern Siamese who was given to him for his birthday by shelter owner and part time antique dealer Phee. Tech jr was abandoned at the shelter for being 'too chatty' and 'having eye problems' and Phee - a long time friend of the group they met at the vet's and rightfully angry that someone would abandon a pet for traits common to the breed - decides he would feel right at home with the batchers who already have one cat. And of course, the sweet curious Siamese reminded her of someone.

- Echo's Cornish Rex was part of a cattery and was meant to be used as a 'stud'. But because he wasn't neutered he wandered off outside one day and got hit by a car. His owners paid for his surgery and prosthetics but decided they would no longer use him for breeding. And Phee being Phee instantly recognized who the poor little fellow belonged with. Echo didn't hesitate a second before accepting the little guy (who had grown thin and shy from all the stress) and helped him learn how to use his prosthetics while nursing him back to full health.

- Lulu (originally named Lucas) was a chubby British Shorthair who was injured in a fireworks accident and whose owners bailed on him once they saw his surgery bills. The batch helped Phee organize a charity campaign to cover the costs in which Wrecker was very active - talking to people, posting photos with Lulu and spreading the word. Once the sum was raised and Lulu had recovered it was time to put him up for adoption. Wrecker parted with him reluctantly - they already had three cats and a fourth one would be too much - but seeing how attached he was to Lulu the batch decided to surprise him by adopting Lulu secretly. Wrecker may or may not have cried when he saw the adoption certificate.

- One day Phee's employees bring in a tom who's been captured in the street after reports of an aggressive cat. It's a gray haired Oriental Shorthair who shows signs of having been abused by his previous owners and is extremely distrustful of humans. Normally the procedure is to contact the owners but Phee is so angry at the state of him that she quietly dechips him and throws away his collar (she's seen too many abusive owners get away with it to risk letting them know they found him). They try to rehabilitate him but with little success. There's talk of putting him down because several employees have already been badly clawed and as a last desperate resort she asks Hunter to try and socialize him in a home environment (seeing as the batch already had ample experience with abandoned/injured cats). Hunter agrees and they start by giving him a separate room, spending a little time with him each day and giving him treats to create a positive experience but despite all their efforts he remains hostile and just keeps hissing and swiping at everyone. By the end Hunter's reached the end of his rope and despite hating the thought of having to hand him over to be put down, he doesn't see how the tom could improve. That is until one day when Crosshair comes back from a prolonged business trip. He listens to Hunter's exhausted retelling of events, stays quiet for a bit and then goes into the cat's room and just... sits there for a bit. Keeping his distance, minding his own business and not paying attention to the cat at all. At first the tom treats him the same as everyone else but then the hissing becomes less frequent and he slowly starts coming out of his hiding spot. It's a slow process but one day Hunter finally enters the room to find the tom sprawled over a reading Crosshair's lap, purring contentedly while stretching out belly up. Needless to say they don't return him to the shelter and he slowly becomes part of the family. Even though he has a clear favorite.

- And finally, after weeks of Omega complaining about not having a cat copy of her own, their stray brings in an orphaned ginger kitten. For a while Hunter vehemently denies any suggestion that his cat is acting 'motherly' towards the kitten. Nobody buys it. Eventually he stops trying altogether.

(If y'all thought I wouldn't make Crosshair's part the longest, you clearly don't know me. Also I will draw all of them one day... one day.)

In all honesty, I don't think Lockwood and Co will be saved. There is too little hope for me. Especially since the petition is no longer really progressing. (although I still hope for a miracle)

Hey Anon! Thanks for your honesty and for sending this in, because I'm sure there are many, many people out there who feel this way too.

First off, in case anyone is feeling guilty for not being optimistic -- there's nothing to feel guilty for. Like all Save the Show efforts, we're up against some pretty big odds, and that can be incredibly daunting. Add burnout to that, and it's easy to see how people end up there. It's why we encourage y'all to take breaks and rest -- there's nothing like unending, 24-hour-a-day efforts to make one want to throw up their hands and throw in the towel.

However, I (your humble tumblr mod) think looking at the rate of growth of the petition as evidence of Failure is taking the wrong tack.

In the first five days or so -- even up to the first week, what we saw was Exponential Growth; people who'd seen the show were finding the Organization efforts and getting involved; fans of the books who had no idea that the show had even been made were discovering, watching, and joining our ranks. The petitions blew up because no one had signed them yet. The growth was huge and rapid because, well, we were starting from zero.

Fast forward to today, two weeks + a day and a half later, and we're not seeing thousands added to our ranks every day -- because that'd be impossible. Despite what social media platforms like to say, not everyone is on social media -- in fact, vast numbers people aren't, including those who watch and love the show/books.

The petition still grows every day, which is great news -- it means that we have more people than just a one- or two-hundred die-hards. A few hundred die-hards is what every fandom has and, to be frank, it's not enough. The die-hards are the wonderful graphics makers, the video editors, the johnny-on-the-spot organizers (and, in a small way, the mods of this tumblr/twitter), and they're so, so important.

But far more important is the layman that comes in much larger numbers, watching and supporting and signing but not spending every day tweeting. Every show to do well needs a broad audience, and with our slowed but still steady growth, that's what we're demonstrating to CF, Stroud, Cornish, and the streaming networks we're reaching out to. The votes in our awards and polls shows greater numbers than just a handful of devoted fans, as does our ability to have trended for 16 days straight, as do the many, many articles that are written and are still being written about #SaveLockwoodandCo. We don't just have the core of a hundred people -- we have the layman as well, and our stats demonstrate it.

If you're worried because we're not growing exponentially, I can confidently say to not let that worry you too much. Every campaign loses exponential growth -- that's not a problem, that's just math.

We're thrilled to hear that you hope for a miracle, Anon, because hope is a very, very powerful thing. We hope for a miracle too -- in that a miracle to us would be the show immediately picked up, given an unlimited budget, and filming starts next Tuesday.

But we don't think that the show being saved is a miracle -- we don't think it's unlikely at all. These things take time, and with time very naturally comes worry and uncertainty. If we do nothing, then guilt makes a home with the worry and uncertainty, and that's not good for anyone's brain.

It may not be renewed tomorrow; it may not be for another month or three. But, as a fandom, we're passionate, creative, and invested, and we're being supported (not led, luckily, but supported) in big and small ways by the cast, crew, and creators.

If you can't muster up optimism and faith today, Anon, that's totally fine -- feel free to lean on ours, if you want. We all spend worried and anxious moments every now and again in this fight for the show -- that's not a failure; that's just life. But good things are happening every day. Eventually, those good things will spin themselves into a ball with the greatest thing of all -- the announcement of the show being saved.

It was bound to happen sooner or later: a guest on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow presented an artefact, which derived from the slave trade – an ivory bangle.

One of the programme’s experts, Ronnie Archer-Morgan, himself a descendant of slaves, said that it was a striking historical artefact but not one that he was willing to value.

‘I do not want to put a price on something that signifies such an awful business,’ he said.

It’s easy to understand how he feels. The idea of people profiting from the artefacts left over from slavery is distasteful.

Yet, as Archer-Morgan said, it is not that the bangle has no value: it has great educational value.

It should be bought by a museum and displayed in order to demonstrate the complex nature of slavery and as a corrective to the narrative that slavery was purely a crime committed by Europeans against Africans.

The bangle was, it seems, once in the possession of a Nigerian slaver who was trading in other Africans.

It’s a reminder that slavery was rife in Africa long before colonial government.

It could also remind us that, though slavery was a global institution, the country that led the world in the rebellion against this barbarism – and played a bigger role than perhaps anyone else in its eradication – was the United Kingdom.

Britain did not invent slavery.

Slaves were kept in Egypt since at least the Old Kingdom period and in China from at least the 7th century AD, followed by Japan and Korea.

It was part of the Islamic world from its beginnings in the 7th century.

Native tribes in North America practised slavery, as did the Aztecs and Incas farther south.

African traders supplied slaves to the Roman empire and to the Arab world. Scottish clan chiefs sold their men to traders.

Barbary pirates from north Africa practised the trade too, seizing around a million white Europeans – including some from Cornish villages – between the 16th and 18th centuries.

It was in fear of such pirates that the song ‘Rule Britannia’ was written: hence the line that ‘Britons never ever ever shall be slaves.’

Even slaves who escaped their masters in the Caribbean went on to take their own slaves.

The most concerted campaign against all this was started by Christian groups in London in the 1770s who eventually recruited William Wilberforce to their campaign, and parliament went on to outlaw the slave trade in 1807.

British sea power was then deployed to stamp it out.

The largely successful British effort to eradicate the transatlantic slave trade did not grow out of any kind of self-interest.

It was driven by moral imperative and at considerable cost to Britain and the Empire.

At its peak, Britain’s battle against the slave trade involved 36 naval ships and cost some 2,000 British lives.

In 1845, the Aberdeen Act expanded the Navy’s mission to intercept Brazilian ships suspected of carrying slaves.

Much is made about how Britain profited from the slave trade, but we tend not to hear about the extraordinary cost of fighting it.

In a 1999 paper, US historians Chaim Kaufmann and Robert Pape estimated that, taking into account the loss of business and trade, suppression of the slave trade cost Britain 1.8 per cent of GDP between 1808 and 1867.

It was, they said, the most expensive piece of moral action in modern history.

The cost of fighting the slave trade cancelled out much, if not all of Britain’s profits from it over the previous century.

There are those who continue to demand reparations for slavery from the UK government and other western powers, yet they rarely, if ever, acknowledge Britain’s role in all but eradicating the evil of the transatlantic slave trade, a cause on which we spent the equivalent of £1.5 billion a year for half a century.

Britain’s role in hastening slavery’s extinction is a remarkable achievement.

It’s astonishing that we have forgotten it almost entirely in the 21st century.

It would be difficult to find anyone in the world whose ancestral tree does not somewhere extend back to a slave-trader.

Huge numbers of us, too, will have been partly descended from slaves.

Britain should not minimise or deny the extent to which it traded slaves to the colonies in the early days of Empire.

But it is also important to remember the thousands who served and died with the West Africa Squadron while seizing 1,600 slave ships and freeing some 150,000 Africans.

We must examine and remember everything about the history of the slave trade, including the forces – moral and military – that eventually brought it to an end.

It’s profoundly worrying that slavery evolved to be a near-universal phenomenon among human societies and inspiring that it came to be all but eradicated within a single human lifespan.

Jodie "Bell" Hall (BOCW OC)

After the events of the campaign, Jodie couldn't quite drop the English accent she'd gained from the hours of speaking with Park; however, depending on her state, her original Russian accent might slip through. For example, if she is very sleepy, the English accent slowly fades and she'll speak at you in a mild Russian accent. On the other hand, if someone angers her, it can slip through then, too. I based this off the fact that when I get angry, my northern accent breaks on through my usually not-so-northern accent; I thought that it would make some sense that her accent shifts or fluctuates as the English accent was never hers to begin with, it's just something she picked up from Park.

Her brother was four years younger than her, making her an older sister.

She carries a booklet of sudoku, crossword and other puzzles with her everywhere she goes. It occupies her mind and keeps the noise in her head down - she also finds that it reminds her of cryptography, which is something Canon Bell is said to be good at. It's a tattered book and sometimes she scribbles in the margins different encoding patterns and such. It's basically something to keep her mind from falling in on itself. I might be cheeky in admitting this, but that little snippet was actually inspired by another creator; a thought was sparked and then it turned into this idea that Jodie often keeps her skills sharp by occupying her brain with these kinds of things.

Franca "Major" Lorenzetti (MW OC)

Her middle name is Viola.

2. She has a family that she no longer speaks with, due to differing opinions on her choice to join the army; her father was extremely traditional and essentially forbade her joining and wanted her to focus on finding someone, settling down and having a family. You know, old traditional views that were not made to suit her. Her family are as follows: Antonio, 60: Father. Alessandra, 55: Mother. Carlotta, 34: Sister. Vincenzo (otherwise known as Vinnie), 22: brother. Later on in her life, after she has joined the military and become well established, her brother turns up on her door having been 'banished' like she had, and they have a tearful reunion. She loves her brother a lot and would do anything for him. The rest of her family though? She doesn't really talk about them much and if you were to ask her about them, she'd probably just stare at you until you left her alone.

3. Franca joined the Royal Army Medical Corps, becoming a Combat Medic. She rose through the ranks to RSM/WO1 - Regimental Sergeant Major/Warrant Officer. This associated rank is where her nickname came from, 'Major'. I actually tried to make the rank as accurate as possible, as I think different regiments and military organisations call them different things.

Nanette MacTavish (MW)

Her maiden name was 'Oakley'.

Her dad is from Cornwall and her mum from the Midlands, so she every so often she has a little bit of a Cornish accent. It's really cute but sounds like a farmer sometimes.

She works at the primary school on the army base that she lives at. She's a teaching assistant and takes care of the children like they were her own! Oh- and her own does go to the nursery at the primary school - she has wee little lass with her husband, Soap, and she adores the girl so much.

BONUS: I don't have many facts for Nanette in the MW world, because most of the work I've done with her came about when I was planning a fantasy medieval au for Franca and Ghost. sigh. I ended up making that au about her and Soap, her knight in shining armour-ish. Ok! That's all for the facts! I hope you enjoyed reading about them!! Rupert Phineas Weasley, loving brother and quiet, but recovering leader

Eldest son to Septimus and Cedrella (nee Black), born December 1947 in Cornwall closest to his brother Arthur (b. 1950) and Cadan "Kay" (b. 1952) who looks up to him. And grew deeply close to maternal second cousin Lysander “Sanders” Blackworth (b. 1949).

Always different, Rupe mostly kept to himself through primary school with recurring odd instances of the future but had his obsessions like Arty. The three of them started at Kelynek though Rupe headed off to Hogwarts first (under Dippet), in time for O.W.L. year needing more a challenge.

A Gryffindor but near Ravenclaw (everyone won the bet about Arty's Sorting). Excelling, Rupe never sought attention though accepted an invitation to the Slug Club. Rising in the M.V.F. (soon the E.V.F.), Rupe found his truest friends in their campaign for Professor Dumbledore’s appointment as Head or Deputy.

#DoctorDonnathon Part 2 - A Tangential Talk On Expectations

    Today is Thursday 2nd November. Tales from the TARDIS debuted yesterday, alongside nearly all of classic Who on iPlayer for the first time, and the latest SFX magazine has really got my excitement bubbling. Not that I haven't been actively counting down to November 23rd all year - I don't have a lot going on clearly. Or maybe Doctor Who just means that much to people. Either way, excitement is going from a consistent simmer towards boiling point. Part of my enthusiasm is driving me to believe there may be more to expect at this #DoctorDonnathon, maybe a recorded message from RTD or a preview of the Blu Ray exclusive conversation between DT and RTD, but I feel I'm getting ahead of myself. This screening will be of Series Four (plus The Runaway Bride), and that is more than enough. 

    I tend to get ahead of myself often. Always anticipating something truly extraordinary out of the ordinary. I went to see the Pixar Orchestra nearly 10 years ago at the Eden Project here in Cornwall, and there was talk of dinosaurs featuring - I interpreted this as possibility of a preview of the music from the then-upcoming The Good Dinosaur, only to be humbled at the visuals of Rex from Toy Story being shown on screen. Likewise with the release of hashtags alongside the public filming of these upcoming specials, I (alongside a few enthusiastic fans) wrongly suspected that on the heels of DT & CT's announcement to expect two hearts and a bowtie to be shared, only for the equally humbling yet intriguing reveals of NPH and YF as players in the episodes. This instinct to hope for the best is not a bad thing, but I'm learning it can lessen the impact of genuine surprises and maybe should be averted. I had a very recent example of this last week.

    One of my other non-Whovian interests is Dungeons and Dragons - I run a Star Wars-themed game and play in a fantasy game regularly (my notes for this campaign just crossed 100,000 words last night!) Part and parcel with this interest is following the adventures of the nerdy voice actors of Critical Role, whose live-streamed ongoing campaigns have lead to the creation of two Amazon animated shows to name but a few of their incredible accomplishments. I was lucky enough to secure tickets for me and my D&D party to see them live in London last week, and the show was amazing. I went in with a great sense of mystery, with no knowledge of the show's content other than knowing the characters and the rough situational context, and was blown away by the story that unravelled before us. But that was not the event that shattered my expectations of the trip - I was walking through London with my friends the day after the show, still reeling from the revelations as we went shopping for jelly beans and trinkets. We'd humoured the idea that we may bump into one of the cast members in the city, being naive little Cornish folk who see everywhere through the lens of Cornish village life where you can't go a minute without being stopped by someone who knows you or your family. So consider our shock when we bumped directly into DM extraordinaire and the incredible player Matthew Mercer and Marisha Ray. I thank my lucky stars that not only did my poor navigational skills accidentally put us in the right place at the right time, but also that my best mate was a lot more present and composed that I was. Thankfully the two were humble, generous, kind and simply as wonderful a people as you could hope for, and took the time to talk to us and even offer to have a photo with us. We apologised for inconveniencing them before letting them go (and before we crumpled into a messy pile of sweat and disbelief). 

    This was exactly a week ago as of this writing, and I still genuinely don't believe that it happened. And this is the point of this ramble - I went in with the mildest expectation, humouring the possibility but only in jest, and when the fates aligned and decided to bless me and my friends with a cartoonish accidental bumping into our heroes, the fact it was so unreal and unexpected made it so much more worth it. With that in mind, I need to go into this knowing what to expect. I have seen every episode I'm about to watch on Saturday many, many times. I've thought about this Series so much, holding it as a benchmark for other series' to aspirationally meet and exceed. By expecting more, I feel I will tarnish this experience - and why would I want that when I know how much of a joy it will be to watch with my fellow fans?

    Long story short - I am excited for this month of Who mania, ready to revisit this incredible series in this viewing, and ready to begin this journey as soon as- HOLD ON TOMORROW IS THE 3RD?! OH GOD I NEED TO GET PACKING!!!

Captain Alysia “Aly” Hawthorne - The Outer Worlds

“Alysia” is a variant for Alyssa which means “Rational”. And in many ways Alysia’s main struggle is her rational sense of right and wrong butting up against the uncaring force of capitalism in Halcyon.

I never came up with a last name and I literally forgot my reasoning for it until filling this out. She takes on the name Alex Hawthorne which is an in-game option very early on. Then I developed the nickname “Aly” which could be used for “Alex” or “Alysia”.

And I just never worked past that. Her surname is just “Hawthorne” now which is from the Old English haegborn or hagethorn and meant “thorn used for making hedges and enclosures.”

Calder Jacobson - Fallout 4

“Calder” means “From The Wild Water”. Calder was actually from an original story I was writing where Zavidah, the Goddess of Animals and Shapeshifting, turns Calder into the first werewolf. I didn’t have a good feeling for his personality so I decided to throw him into Fallout 4 and see what happened. I can’t remember how I chose his name but it seems fitting.

“Jacobson” mean “son of Jacob”. I don’t remember choosing it and I low-key hate it now. But here we are.

Erimenthan “Erim” Lavellan - Dragon Age Inquisition

“Erimenthan” is a made-up male variant of “Erimentha” which was part of my original Tumblr handle and it means “ Collector Of Thoughts, Determined Protector”. In trying to come up with an elven name for my first DA:I playthrough this seemed very fitting. And then I created “Erim” as a nickname for him.

“Lavellan” is of course not chosen by me but is the elf background surname given by the game. And it’s not even a surname but a clan name. But it’s origins are in Scottish folklore as a mythical creature Wikipedia describes as a very large noxious rat like creature that lives in deep pools of rivers. So big side-eye to Bioware for that one.

Nadezhda “Nadi” Trevelyan - Dragon Age Inquisition

“Nadezhda” means “Hope” and “Nadi” is just nickname from that which she prefers to go by.

Once again a Bioware provided surname, “Trevelyan” is a Welsh and Cornish name derived from a place-name which originally meant "farmstead 'trev' or Tref (town in Welsh) of Elyan" which reading through a few sites is pretty common for Medieval surname development. “Elyan” is of unknown meaning in it’s English origins. But in Arabic the name means roughly “One Who Climbs Upwards” or “Exalted” among other similar meanings. So arguably a much nicer surname than “poisonous river rat cryptid”. Looking at you Bioware!

Osyen Trevelyan - Dragon Age Inquisition

“Osyen” is a made-up variant of the Welsh name “Osian” which is a variant of the Celtic name “Oisin” meaning “Little Deer”. Oisin is also a the famous warrior poet in Irish mythology. I actually spent some time on Osyen’s backstory giving him seven siblings also with Welsh names. Can’t entirely remember why I chose Welsh, but it was related to some deep digging I did into the Trevelyan surname and in-game origins of Ostwick and the Free Marches. I honestly need to do better about taking notes for my OCs.

Liam Harper - Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator

“Liam” means “With Gilded Helmet” and funnily enough he does have blond hair. But I honestly didn’t realize the connection until now. I just liked the name.

“Harper” is an occupational surname for someone who plays the harp. Again not intentional. I just like it. Liam isn’t musically inclined but I’m sure he could make an excellent analogy of how writing is very much like plucking the strings of a harp.

Anlanihal “Anla” - Skyrim

“Anlanihal” is a made-up name I initially created as one of Erim’s exes in my very long WIP for him. I actually liked the name so much I used it in a D&D campaign for an Elf Barbarian who was a lot of fun. And then when I wanted to try and actually finish Skyrim for once I made a Bosmer Elf and named her “Anlanihal”.

I would have sworn dollars to donuts that “Anla” was a popular name. It does not seem to be. I cannot find it’s meaning anywhere. However, there are a handful people around the world with that name that popped up on Google....and it is a popular acronym.

She also doesn’t have a surname. One could argue it would be Lavellan since she is part of Erim’s clan in my initial rendition of her. But now knowing it means “toxic nutria of lore” I might consider something else.

First of all, thank you so much for all of your hard work and effort to save our beloved show! You guys help us so much, huge thank you, truly.

So I was just wondering, so many popular netflix shows were cancelled and I still remember the huge noise the cancellation of those shows caused. Like for example Anne With An E and Warrior Nun, the whole internet moved for them and still, they weren't picked up by another streaming service.

Do you think our show really stands a chance? 🥺 /gen

Hi Anon! Thank you for this question and for your kind words!

It's true that whenever a show is cancelled -- especially a multi-season, popular show with a built-in fanbase like Anne With An E -- it seems like the whole internet is awash with cries of outrage, support, and, to be blunt, threats against the people who cancel it. Internet campaigning is as old as the internet, and even older than that if you count print media and letter writing campaigns before that. It's human nature to get loud about bad things, and Save-The-Show campaigns are more prone to that than most things, since media is a generally uniting and far-reaching force.

I will note that Warrior Nun's fans are still working towards a pick-up by Max (formerly HBOMax), so I'll leave them off of this comparison, as well as wishing them the best of luck.

To be blunt, yes our show really does stand a chance. I've been involved in more than my share of Save-The-Show campaigns over the last 15+ years, and I've never seen a response by people outside the fandom like this before. We're sitting at exactly 2 weeks since cancellation and we've had dozens of articles from entertainment, business, finance, and human interest magazines and sites alike, huge, sustained tweet numbers, trended every single day, joyful engagement by cast/crew/related persons, the works. It's not a level of response I've ever seen via a fan campaign, not in the ones I've been a part of and not in the ones I've seen from the sidelines.

Unlike a lot of unsuccessful campaigns, ours is entirely fan-led. I've said many times IRL over the last two weeks that I'd be vastly more worried if Cornish/CF/Stroud were leading this charge. If the show runners/creators/etc are the ones spearheading things, experience tells us that things are bleak from the get-go. This isn't a creator-led endeavor where the most noise comes from 4 or 5 people who directly profit off of the show; Joe Cornish posted once on Instagram (in a very ballsy move, I'll note, giving the fans numbers/graphics to use without directly showing his hand), the Strouds are mostly liking tweets and engaging in fan engagement to the side of the campaign (Stroud is careful never to use the #savelockwoodandco hashtag or any hashtag related to a particular streaming service), and the cast and crew of the show/CF are posting Lockwood & Co related videos and pictures without coming out as part of the #SaveLockwoodAndCo movement. To borrow a phrase, they're going carefully.

This is a good thing.

Networks and Streaming Sites don't care how passionate a creator, cast, or crew are. They don't care about how many people are mad a show is cancelled either. What they care about is exactly what we're working in this campaign to give them -- actionable data.

The AWAE cancellation is a good example, sadly. While it had a lot of enthusiasm -- I was on the sidelines for this, but I did heartily enjoy the show, and would have liked them to get enough time to finish the main story, rather than cutting it off and forcing a time skip as they did -- it didn't have the numbers. Not streaming hours or being generally known -- as a preexisting IP it was very well-known -- but sustained numbers post-cancellation. It had a lot of very angry (understandably) people, a few articles about the cancellation, and that was about it. The creators knew for at least part of the last season that it was unlikely they'd get another one, and wrapped up the major storyline (Anne and Gil) as best they could. It was a rushed ending (not quite Merlin levels of rushed, but definitely rushed), but it's a linear story from the books, and the story did end.

It's not enough to be angry in campaigns to save a show. Anger is a great short-term motivator, but for all but the most focused of us, anger burns out like a match -- hot at first, but rather useless very quickly. Recent and memorable (unnamed to avoid offense where none is intended) campaigns were filled with angry posts about betrayal by the network (completely understandably), but these campaigns didn't do what a successful campaign must: add numbers and news.

It's a testament to the strength of character in all of you -- the fandom -- that the immediate and understandable anger upon cancellation has died down, but our numbers have kept growing. The articles aren't about "it's so sad this show was cancelled" anymore, they're about fan engagement, they're about sheer business sense. The people of the press aren't writing because they're fans, or because it's today's story, but rather because Lockwood and Co has become a sort of symbol for what's wrong with the streaming industry and Netflix in particular. We're trending in Business and Finance as well as in Entertainment, for heaven's sake.

This show, according to all the numbers and Netflix's own statement, did well. It passed the figures it needed to be renewed.

But it wasn't. That's been our focus, and that's what's newsworthy. And we can only help it along by being genuine, passionate, and positive above all else.

This fandom has done an amazing job being polite, professional, empathetic, and collected. No one is ritually burning anything, no one is sending envelopes of razor blades or Purposely Mysterious White Powder to executives (yes, these have happened), no one is threatening physical harm to the poor interns in charge of Netflix's twitter, tumblr, instagram, tiktok, or, heck, LinkedIn or anything.

Our numbers are growing -- if you pay close attention to twitter like the other mod of this blog does, you'll note that people are discovering, watching, loving, and turning around and campaigning for this show through our hashtags and engagement. Having a show add so many people post-cancellation is a rare, rare thing -- people will generally stay away from a cancelled show, not watch it. And yet we grow every day in leaps and bounds.

This post is far too long, but yes, we're different from the majority of campaigns. We have the quiet and subtle support of Those In Charge of the show, but they're not the ones driving this boat. Because of our consistent, diversified efforts and our insistence on sticking to data and logic in an enthusiastic and optimistic way, people have sat up and taken continued notice.

Lockwood and Co (and #savelockwoodandco by extension) has become a beacon to those dissatisfied with the business of TV, and has gained substantial fans along the way.

Yes, we have a chance. Let's keep lighting our ghost lamps -- they shine far further than we can comprehend.
