Coreopsis tinctoria (garden tickseed)
This flower, also known as golden tickseed and calliopsis, is native to Canada, northern Mexico, and the United States - particularly the Great Plains and southern states. It grows around 30-100 cm tall and flowers in the mid-summer months. While it prefers sandy, we’ll drained soil and full sun, it can grow in many soil types and in partial shade.
Garden tickseed was used by the Native American Zuni people to make mahogany-color yarn dye. It was also used to make a hot drink until the introduction of coffee.

Golden Tickseed (Coreopsis Tinctoria; also known as Plains Coreopsis) remains my favorite native wildflower. It used to grow all over the property at our old house, and I've missed it ever since we moved away.
I tried transplanting some once. As you can imagine, it didn't last, ha. Then again, back then I didn't necessarily know what I was doing, either. I was still new to gardening myself- especially on my own, with any kind of actual coherency.

Butterfly and flowers.
Tumblr media
This is a common buckeye (Junonia grisea) in a field of wildflowers. The flowers are Plains Coreopsis (Coreopsis tinctoria). These flowers grow wild around my home.
"Junonia coenia, known as the common buckeye or buckeye, is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is found in the United States east of the Rocky Mountains and in Mexico. Its habitat is open areas with low vegetation and some bare ground. Its original ancestry has been traced to Africa, which then experiences divergence in Asia. The species Junonia grisea, the gray buckeye, is found west of the Rocky Mountains and was formerly a subspecies of Junonia coenia.[ - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junonia_coenia

Buy Wild Flower Seed - An Introduction
When it comes to plants, the phrase "wild flower" has a charming air of mystery. These come into being naturally, their wild beauty capturing the senses without the need for careful cultivation or planting. Nevertheless, the seed industry has tainted wildflower purity by charging exorbitant amounts for seeds that purport to capture the spirit of wild beauty. The legitimacy of wildflower seeds is called into question due to their high price tag. The word "wildflower seed" these days seems to vacillate between the domains of true spontaneity and the strategic marketing gimmicks of seed vendors. Wildflower seeds are of particular interest to serious gardeners. In addition to plants, these seeds offer a wild, organic experience in the form of stunning, aromatic, and vibrant blossoms. The contemporary practice of creating wildflower gardens in available areas reflects a desire to appreciate the untamed beauty of these impromptu blooms. When exploring the wide variety of wildflowers, one finds many different species that are sprouting by accident and each has its own special appeal.

Adonis aestivalis, Coreopsis tinctoria, Dianthus barbatus, Centaurea cyanus, Digitalis purpurea, and Gypsophila elegans are among the plants that a wildflower fan should add in their collection. More than 20,000 varieties of wildflowers thrive in the expansive landscapes, luring gardeners with their innate elegance. The African daisy is a wildflower that originated in but has spread beyond its original borders to be seen all over the world. This annual plant loves direct sunlight and does well in well-drained soil. Its flowers include orange, yellow, and white. The untamed origins of the African daisy provide an air of wildness to cultivated landscapes, which is part of its attractiveness. The evergreen Iceland poppies fill rooms with pink, yellow, orange, and red hues while also filling the air with a delightful scent. Bright yellow blossoms from the Desert Marigold defy harsh weather, providing a pop of colour from early spring to early winter. Its tan-colored seeds, which birds find delicious, add even more detail to the ecological fabric.
With origins in the tropics, morning glory has about a thousand variations, each with a distinct colour scheme. These wildflowers, which are also frequently found in, reward gardeners with blooms that range from red and blue to white, purple, and yellow. However, they require full sunlight. Unlike their carefully tended rivals, wildflower gardens entice with the promise of low upkeep. These magical areas, embellished with wildflowers, need minimal maintenance and watering, which makes them a fun activity for families looking to get outside and spend time in nature. A voyage takes place in the world of wildflower mixes, seeds, and the seduction of wildflowers. Travelling beyond the commercialised interpretations, people can see the true beauty of wild flowers that have been spread randomly by nature. The free-spirited nature and spontaneity of wildflower gardens are still very much alive and well, even as more people come to appreciate their allure.
