Over This (Over you)
Quick one-shot. Class salt ahead. this about the fall of Lila getting exposed. Kind of cliche at this point. Enjoy.
Surprisingly, it was Mylene who found out the truth first. Lila had told a lie about a famous performer who taught her all about filmmaking.
           The issue?
The guy had died three years before Lila was born.
           It all snowballed from there.
She told Ivan who told Nathanial.
Nathanial just shrugged it off because Lila knew a lot of people, maybe she just got confused. Then he overheard Lila brag about her weekend, then she casually thrown in that Stan Lee had dropped in. And his heart stopped.
Because Nathanial didn’t care who you were: Stan lee was not a name you confused for anyone else’s. He had been a legend. Stan Lee had been a god to comic book lovers everywhere. Stan Lee was dead.
           Nathanial told Nino first.
Nino had thought it was an honest mistake; a lapse in memory on Lila’s part. Still the suspicious didn’t just go away.
And when he heard her bragging about working with the famous DJ Marshmallow; that she helped him compose his biggest hit.
Nino paled when he remembered that he had played nearly all of Marshmallow’s jams to Lila and she hadn’t known a single one. Even asked if it was Nino’s own work.
That was when he got Alya involved. It had been Saturday, date night, but they were stuck babysitting their little siblings. They tended to find themselves babysitting a lot. They couldn’t find anyone willing to cover for them.
Nino carefully brought up the Lila situation.
Alya at first came to Lila’s defense. She had already dealt with Marinette’s jealousy and determination to call Lila a liar. Lila had been bullied by Marinette for months. It got to the point where the whole class had no choice but to ostracize the Bluenette like they did Chloe until she changed her evil way. Even Adrien gave the girl the cold shoulder. A few of them even went out of their way to show Marinette what it was like to be bullied; a trip here or there, torn up school notes, an “accidently” spilled drink on something Marinette had been designing. When Marinette didn’t change, and seemingly became friends with Chloe, Kagami, and kids from other classes; Alya had to put her foot down, and the rest of the class followed suit. They would not be friends with Marinette anymore.
After that, Alya refused to let anyone talk bad about her new bestie. Even if that person was her boyfriend. However, before she could get angry, Nino talked her down. And Alya quickly conceded that two was a coincidence, three times was a pattern.
“Fine,” Alya huffed and pulled out her phone to research Lila Rossi. It would be easy show the entire class just how amazing her best friends was, and then the nasty rumors of her being a liar would stop once and for all.
However as Alya searched for information on her new friend, she found google to be lacking. Slowly but surely as Alya tried several different search methods, the righteous feeling she had started with faded away as desperation filled her.
No, she thought with growing horror, Lila was telling the truth. She had to be.
Alya had supported her. She had filled the Ladyblog of interviews from Lila. She had-She had! Lila couldn’t be lying.
But no matter how long Alya searched. There was no evidence to support anything Lila had ever said.
Alya held her phone is her hands tightly and just stared at it. Tears burned in her eyes. She looked up at Nino and gasped, “Lila is a liar!”
The entire class knew within the hour.
The group chat was filled with remorse and anger. (Three akumas came out of it. Ladybug saved the day.) No one knew how to react. How should they confront Lila? How could they make her pay?
But then Rose, sweet Rose had texted something that made all their hearts stop
Rosebud: What about Marinette?
Shit, one by one they all thought, Marinette!
They had all hurt the girl, their ‘everyday Ladybug’. So much so that they had snatched the title away from her and given it to Lila, who they thought deserved it more.
Quickly, they all tried to text and call their dearest friend with apologies ready on their lips, only to hear “This number has been disconnected.”
           Marinette had changed her number.
Alya and Nino had raced to the bakery as soon as their parents came from. Only for Sabine and Tom, the nicest people on the entire planet, apart from Marinette, had given them the coldest glares possible, and told them Mariette had gone a weekend trip. And that they were no longer welcome in their establishment or in their home.
By the time Monday morning rolled around, emotions were high. Adrien had tried to calm the class down, convince them that what Lila did wasn’t so bad, but they wouldn’t hear it. Most of the class waited silently as their desks, lost in their thoughts.
Until Lila strolled into class, a big smile on her face, “Wait till I tell you what I did this weekend,” And went on to talk about the celebrity she had been with.
“Liar!” Alix roared, and Kim had to hold her back from throttling Lila.
That was all spark needed for the class to start ripping into her.
Alya screamed about her ruining the Ladyblog and destroying her career; her friendship with Marinette. Nino yelled about promised connections and missed opportunities. Everyone had something to scream.
Lila tried to defend herself. However, it became increasingly clear that the game was up. There was nothing she could do to save it. She looked around helpless.
That was the scene, Marinette, Kagami, and Chloe walked in on. Marinette and Chloe had spent the entire weekend at a fashion show; models for Audrey Bourgeois, walking the runway. And when they weren’t doing that, they were at photoshoots. Kagami had tagged along for support, and the beach house they had stayed in. When the girls weren’t working, they had a blast just hanging out.
Marinette eyed the teary Lila and the angry faces of her classmates, her ex-friends, and just snorted, “Took long enough.”
Kagami just held out her hand.
Chloe huffed and handed money, “Two weeks. Just two more weeks, and I would’ve won the bet.” She stumped her foot. “Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. These morons spent over a year hanging of Lie-la’s every word and they couldn’t give me two more weeks.”
Marinette giggled at her friends antics. “I told you not to bet against her.” She said as the three walked to their desks in the back. Ignoring all the eyes on them. “Kagami doesn’t lose.”
Said girl in question smirked, “As if there was ever a chance.”
“…Marinette?” Rose said, her eyes still red from all the crying. “I’m so sorry. We should’ve listened. We should’ve believed you.”
“Yeah,” Alya cried. “Girl, I can’t believe I got fooled. I’m so sorry.”
More apologies came. Each one more sorrow filled the last. Lila watched with anger in her eyes.
When the last one was done, Marinette shrugged, “Whatever,” And went back to talking with Chloe and Kagami.
“Whatever?” Alya asked confused. “What do you mean: whatever?” She had expected an emotion reconciliation. With promise of future girls’ night and being best friends forever.
Even Lila was caught off guard, and stopped her escape from the room to watch.
“It means an American localism,” Marinette explained. “It’s mean it’s doesn’t matter; I don’t care; sure, okay. Sometimes, just to end a conversation if there’s nothing more to say.”
Nino frowned, “How can you say that? We’re really sorry!”
“And that means what?” Kagami asked, coldly.
The question caught most of the room off guard.
“This has nothing to do with you!” Alix hissed. “We’re talking with Marinette.”
Marinette crossed her arms, and leaned back in her seat, “Answer the question.” She said. “What exactly did you expect to happen? What do you even think apologizing would mean?”
Kim scratched his head, “Its means everything’s okay again; that we’re friends again.”
The three stared at him. He shifted uneasily.
“Ridiculous,” Chloe muttered.
“No,” Marinette said slowly to them. “That’s what it means. Saying sorry just implies you know what you did was wrong and that you feel bad and want to make it clear to the offended party that you are remorseful. It doesn’t actually do anything.”
Lila smirked. She was glad she stayed. The fools thought everyone would go back to the way it was. Unfortunately, Marinette had different plans.
“We are remorseful, though,” Rose pleaded. “We feel really, really bad about what we did.”
Marinette nodded, “I understand. But that doesn’t change what you did,” She explained. “You hurt me. You bullied me. You accused me of awful things. You ended our friendships. I understand that you are sorry. I accept your apology,” The other students visibly brighten with hope on their faces. “I do not forgive you. I don’t have to forgive to you. It’s not okay,” Marinette said this part directly to Kim, who used to be her oldest friend in the room. “I will not say “It’s okay”, to your apology. Because you’ll just think it okay to do it again. And it’s not. What you did was not okay. And I do not have to forgive you.”
“But we’re friends,” Juleka sobbed, “Friends forgive. Best Friends forgive.” To that Alya nodded earnestly.
“We are not friends,” Marinette said bluntly. “We haven’t been friends in a long time. I only have two friends in classroom, my best friends,” The two girls next to her preened. “Kagami and Chloe. All my other friends are in different classes.” She paused. “And before you ask, I don’t think we can be friends again. I do not want to be friends again because I can only be friends with people I trust and like. None of you meet those requirements.”
Ouch. The other students flinched back as if slapped.
Adrien stepped forward, “You’re being mean, Marinette. They’re sorry. Just let them make it up to you.” He smiled wide, hope in his eyes. “Then we can go back to the way it was before.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow, “Just how hard did you hit the ground when you fell out of that tree when we were five?”
Marinette snorted a laugh. “This isn’t a movie, Adrien,” She told him. “Life doesn’t work like that. And what about you? How sorry are you? You knew Lila was lying the entire time, and did nothing.”
Nino let out a strangled cry, “What? Bro?”
Angry glares turned toward the blond.
“No,” Marinette slammed her hands on her desk. “You don’t get to be mad at him. I do. He didn’t have to tell you Lila was lying because I already did. Me! Someone most of you have known since we were toddlers. You just met Adrien less than two years ago, there was no reason for him to think you would’ve believed him over me.  It’s not like you believed Kagami when she came to class and pointed out hole in Lila’s stories. Adrien’s only crime was that he never had my back like he promised he would. Not once. And I don’t forgive him for that either,” She added to her former crush; during her speech his face had gone from scared, to relieved, to devastated.
“Sorry doesn’t fix everything,” Kagami said simply. “To think otherwise, is the same childish behavior that got you into this mess.”
Chloe nodded, “And thinking everything can just go back to the way it was, after everything, all the hurt, is just stupid,” She stated let looked over every student in class to let them know she was speaking with them too before resting her eyes on Adrien. “There’s too much damage now. This isn’t like the fights we had as kids. We can’t just share cookies and forget a second later that we we’re fight. It’s a burned bridged; scooping up the ashes and hoping for the best doesn’t change the fact that the bridge is gone. It’s just gone.”
“She’s friends with you,” Alya snapped.
“We were never friends before now,” Chloe defended, anger raging in her eyes. “We hated each other. I made her life. Never once did Marinette trust me, relied on me, thought of me as friend.”
“Nothing Chloe did actually hurt me,” Marinette shrugged. “At least not in way that matter. Because she was just a mean girl who didn’t care about me and I didn’t care about. When we became friends, it became different. Now there’s an emotional connection, trust. Now she could actually hurt me.”
“Not that I would,” The blonde quickly added. “But it’s different for you. I hurt my enemy. You hurt your friend. She expected me. She never saw you coming.”
Miss Bustier walked into class. The bell rang. Everyone went back to their. Mourning their friendships and berating their own actions.
As the days went on, some of ex-friends tried to pretend everything was alright between Marinette and them again.
Rose would try to draw her into the latest gossip. Alya would just sit down at her lunch table and just launch into a conversation but would leave once it was clear that the three girls were ignoring her.
Kim tried to joke around with her but was met with stone cold silence. Alix tried baiting her into an argument.
Those like Nino, Juleka and Max just left her alone. They knew they had done wrong and accepted the consequences.
A month later, another blow up happened.
Alya stomped into the lunchroom, right to Marinette’s table, and slammed a magazine on it, “This this why you don’t want to be friends?” She yelled gaining the attention of the entire cafeteria. “You’re too good for us now?”
Marinette glanced at the magazine; teen vogue. On the cover was Marinette wearing the latest from Audrey Bourgeois’ new line.
Alya picked up the magazine and showed her class. There were gasps. Students from the other classes just gave impressed looks when they recognized the sweet girl from Bustier’s class.
Alya sneered at Marinette, “You think better than us?”
“How could you not tell us?” Alix snapped.
Adrien nodded in agreement. He couldn’t believe Marinette wouldn’t tell him. She had to know how lonely those photoshoots got. Didn’t she care? “I would have liked to model with you. It would be nice to have a real friend on set.”
“You’re not even that good at it,” Alya said with jealousy having filled her heart since she saw magazine in the store. Her friend had her foot in the door to her fashion dreams a while Alya’s dream of being a great journalist had gone up in smoke. The Ladyblog was ruined. Her fans had been flocking for months and Alya couldn’t figure out why until the truth about Lila was revealed. Now no one trusted Alya would have the scoop. The Ladyblog was replaced by Bugout managed by Aurore. “You probably begged Chloe’s mom for the job. And she took mercy on her brat’s only friend.”
Kagami narrowed her eyes, “I am Chloe’s friend too. Luka is Chloe’s friend. Aurore is Chloe’s friend. Marc, Claude, Ondine; are all Chloe’s friends. Once again you failed to check the facts.”
“Ooohs,” Were heard from various students around the cafeteria. Nearly everyone knew by now that the Ladyblog had fallen into infamous category. It had been blacklisted as a credible resource by a majority of local news.
Not to mentions the rumors cease and desist orders from various celebrities.
“I’ve been modeling for over almost two years,” Marinette said, frost in her eyes, as she looked at her class. “Never once have I brought it up. And I’ve been on the covers of Seventeen, Elle girl, Sassy, Vogue Paris, and Cosmogirl. I was featured, along with Chloe, in a spread in Vanity Fair. And another one in W with Gigi Hadid. I walked the runways during fashion weeks for New York, London, and Paris. Never once did I brag. Never once did I think it made me better than you. Or anyone for that matter.”
The tone was far different than any they had ever heard Marinette use before. It was cold, unfeeling, and sent shivers through them. Alya, in particularly, unconsciously took a step back.
“I didn’t tell you,” She said mockingly to Alix who reddened. “Because we’re not friends. I don’t owe you anything. I don’t have to tell you anything. You’re no one to me.” Marinette glared at Alya. “No one at all. Just some wannabe journalist who ruined her own life’s work because she couldn’t remember that a good reporter checks her resources.”
“Damn,” Aurore chuckled, she sat next to Kagami and was enjoying the fireworks.
Alya opened her mouth to yell but stopped when Nino placed at hand on her shoulder and motioned around the room. All eyes were on her. She flushed.
“I don’t know what your problem is, Alya.” Marinette shrugged. “Half the time you’re blaming Lila.  The other half you’ve been acting like you’ve didn’t do anything wrong. Now you’re looking for some excuse to make me the bad guy again. Just stop. You’re not a victim. You need to stop acting like you are. Hell, I’m not even the victim anymore because I moved on with my life. I have better things to do than be hurt and angry for the rest time.”
“Lila lied,” Alya repeated for the thousandth time. “I didn’t. It’s not my fault.”
“Seriously?” Marc asked from where he sat at Marinette’s lunch table. “Is she serious?” He asked Ondine who had a bewildered look on her face.
Marinette just pinched her nose. “Oh grow up! You tripped me class. Sent horrible texts that could easily been considered harassment in a court of law. Destroyed weeks of designs when you ‘accidently’ spilled your coffee on my desk. You didn’t talk to me for months. You reported false information for over a year; dragging multiple celebrities into it. When you weren’t doing that, your blog focused more on the supposed relationship between Ladybug and Chat noir than it did on actual news. Any information you actually reported was half-assed at best. I’ve seen more accurate information on Tumblr. That was Lila. That was you.”
Fire raged in Alya’s eyes, hurt clear on her face. She looked like she was going to explode.
Akuma alert anyone, Marinette thought.
“You screwed up. It happens. Let it go.” Marinette stood up, grabbed her bag. “This whole confrontation of yours was just childish. And I’m over it. I’m over you.”
“I was over you first,” Alya lunged at Marinette, with tears in her eyes, but Nino pulled her back.
Marinette rolled her eyes and moved to leave but just before she did, Marinette looked at Alya and then at the Class. “You’re ill-tempered, rash, and prone to immature behavior better suited on your little sisters. Besides the obvious, you want to know the real reason, we can’t be friends? You’re a child.”
And with a shake of her head, Marinette said. “And I’ve outgrown you.”
There was applause as Marinette left the lunch room to go transform. A smirk was on her face.
She really was over it.

Adrinette April Day 2: Rebellion
@adrinetteapril
Read on AO3  scene adapted from Chapter 9 of The Wall Between Us
Marinette let go of a long sigh as she reclined her back against the cool wood of the bench. She was at the park next to her house. It had been a long, long day at school and she was happy that it was finally behind her. Sketching for a few minutes, sitting under the cool shade of a tree always helped her shed the frustrations of the day; particularly one as taxing as this one. She made herself comfortable on the bench, took a deep breath, and gathered her creativity, focusing it at the tip of her pencil as she prepared to spill it into a design. As she did this, she lifted her sight to find the muse of the day, something that might be worth putting into paper.
Something like... Adrien sneaking out of fencing practice?
The girl observed him from a baffled distance, witnessing the way he sported an uncharacteristic devious smirk on his face as he hurriedly descended down the steps of the school, two at a time. He looked to each side of the street, as if looking for spies, and darted in Marinette’s direction; to the park.
The comical then happened: Stepping into the park, he shed his usual white overshirt and shoved it into his sports bag, produced an unassuming grey hoodie along with an insulting neon green cap, and quickly put them on. Merrily, he walked with a light spring towards the park kiosk to buy himself a soda and then proceeded to find a bench to sit on.
Witnessing Adrien being so evidently pleased at breaking the rules was like watching a cat walk on its hindlegs: bizarre, to say the least.
Marinette giggled at his confidence; at how sure he seemed that no one would be able to tell his identity under this poorly-thought disguise. She gathered the courage to go talk to him, just for a quick hello. Making the most of the fact he had not spotted her yet, she approached from behind him.
“FYI, you stick out like a sore thumb with that cap on,” she said, startling Adrien and prying a tiny gasp from him.
“Marinette!” he cried, tugging at his cap as if doing so might conceal his face better. “What are you doing here?”
“I, um... Designs,” she said lamely, lifting her sketchbook for Adrien to see. “But what are you doing here? Don’t you have fencing today?”
Adrien quirked an eyebrow. “How do you--”
Marinette’s face became red with embarrassment, quickly interrupting him hoping she hadn’t exposed the things she knew about him. “Just a lucky guess, heh, heh.”
“I’m sneaking out,” he said, scanning the surroundings.
“Why are you whispering?”
“Because you never know. Natalie always catches me. Sometimes I feel like she tapped my phone or something.”
Marinette pressed her lips into a sympathetic smile, with her courage quickly returning to her to poke fun at him a little more, “Well, one thing is for sure. You’re making it easy for her with that neon green thing on you.”
“It’s the only cap I could find in the morning! Is it really that bad?”
“Take it off. You call less attention without it,” Marinette said with a giggle. “You wouldn’t be able to hide your identity for the life of you.”
Adrien laughed. “I’ll have you know I have excellent camouflaging skills.”
“Right, right. And I’m Ladybug.”
Adrien grinned at her. His delighted heart missed a beat or two as he relished in the possibility.
“Anyway,” Marinette said, nervousness building up inside of her at the prospect of being alone with Adrien. “I should probably get going, good luck with the sneaking out.”
“Wait!” Adrien said, more disappointed than he wanted to sound. “I, um... Would you like to spend some time with me? We could find something to do. If you’re not busy, that is.”
Marinette ignored the warm blush that crept on her cheeks. “What-- yes. Co fourse! I mean of course! I mean--heh. Yeah, what--what did you have in mind?”
Adrien beamed at her, stood up, and then gave her a little devilish smirk. Marinette couldn’t help but be both a little worried and infinitely curious to know what sorts of trouble Adrien wanted to get into.
They headed back to the kiosk again, this time with the mission of filling Adrien’s backpack with as many snacks as they could fit. To the clerk’s satisfaction, that involved practically emptying the little hut out of the day’s stock.
Loot packed up and horrible neon green caps out of the way, Adrien led Marinette to stage two of his plan. They headed a few blocks away from the park, to a residential area where Adrien started testing for unlocked front doors in the apartment buildings.
“What are you doing?” Marinette asked, a bit bewildered.
“Looking for an open door,” Adrien explained, simultaneously finding what he was searching for. “Ah! Success!” he exclaimed, pushing the door open. “After you prin--After you.”
Marinette gave him a suspicious look but did his bidding, following him inside and then onto the building’s stairs.
“Adrien what are you doing?” Marinette asked again, more evidently worried. “We’re going to get in trouble!”
“No, we’re not,” he assured her as he consistently climbed up the staircase. “Trust me.”
“Why do I get the feeling you’ve done this before,” she said as she reached the very last floor, finding Adrien negotiating with the lock of the only door there.
He pulled what looked like a fancy, metal credit card from his wallet, and used to click the lock open. Marinette snorted at the sight.
“Why use a platinum credit card in the Champs Elysees when you can use it to perform a misdemeanor,” Marinette said.
“My thoughts exactly,” Adrien said with a wink, pushing the door to the roof open and seizing an indistinct brick that lay there to prevent the door from shutting close.
“You are an actual teenage vandal aren’t you,” Marinette said, absolutely bewildered at Adrien’s criminal tendencies. “So is this how you spend your free time? Breaking into people’s roofs?”
Adrien giggled as he found a spot to sit near the edge of the building. “In a way, I guess you could say that.”
Marinette shook her head, still in shock as she joined Adrien.
Worried at her silence, and that she might think less of him for this little escapade, Adrien hurried to look for her validation. “Are you mad? I swear I’ve only done it a couple of times and if it makes you really uncomfortable we can go down. I’m sorry.”
Marinette turned to see Adrien’s worried, expectant face. “What? No, no. I’m not mad! It’s okay. It’s just... I never thought you had it in you to be this...”
“Bad?” he asked, sadness staining his tone.
“Rebellious,” she offered instead. “It’s a bit odd. At school, you’re always so, so... perfect.”
Adrien scrunched up his nose. “I know, I hate it,” he confessed, pulling his legs to his chest responding to a subconscious need to hide.
Trying not to delve too much into the thought, he reached for the bag where the snacks were and emptied their little treasure between them. He gestured for Marinette to have the first pick, which she indulged by grabbing a bag of chips and a bottle of sparkling pink lemonade.
Adrien grabbed a pack of fruit gummies and plain sparkling water as he spoke again. “Most of the stuff I do, I do it for my father.” He sighed and then continued quietly. “But it doesn’t matter how hard I work, it always feels like it’s not good enough for him and I’m tired of pretending to be someone I am not.”
Marinette’s heart wrung at Adrien’s confession. A small part of her did wonder what brought him to trust her like this so out of the blue, but this and any of her other reservations flew out the window at the sight of him being so evidently upset. It pained Marinette to see him like that.
“I’m so sorry, Adrien,” she said softly, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Why? It’s not your fault.”
“I mean, I’m sorry that... that your father makes you feel that way.”
Adrien looked down, hugging his legs a little tighter.
“But you can always be yourself around me,” she offered, with her voice trembling.
Adrien’s saddened pout slowly melted into a warm smile. “I know,” he said. “That’s why I like spending time with you, Marinette. You’re the greatest friend I could possibly have asked for.”
She tried not to pay too much attention to the utter disappointment that washed over her at the idea of Adrien seeing her as just a friend. Instead, she focused on the part that mattered: That he could have someone with whom he didn’t feel the need to pretend or put up an act. As Ladybug, she knew the burden all too well and didn’t wish it on anyone, certainly not on Adrien.
“Yep,” she said. “That’s what friends are for! Heh, heh.”
“And um, you, too.”
“Me, too?”
“I mean, you don’t have to pretend around me...” he said, taken aback by the fact he was inexplicably blushing. “I notice that you always get, er... a little tongue-tied.”
“Oh!” Marinette piped, perking up with the dread that suddenly seized her. “That. Ha, ha. That’s nothing! I just... have... uh... you know me. I don’t-- I, why would you think that?”
“I don’t know,” Adrien said, shrugging. “It’s just, this is the first real conversation you and I have ever had. It’s... nice. I wish we could do it more often.”
Marinette laughed nervously, beyond herself with mortification and wondering whether Adrien actually knew the kind of influence he had on her. Maybe he did and he just enjoyed messing with her.
“I just... get a little nervous, that’s all,” she said sheepishly.
“Why? Is it because I’m famous?” Adrien said, adopting a smug flair. One that helped Marinette overcome her embarrassment faster than she could say ‘Lucky Charm’. She didn’t know exactly why, but Adrien’s smug, rebellious side--the side she had been witness to for the good part of the last few hours, helped her feel more at ease, more willing to use her own sass on him.
She rolled her eyes and playfully jabbed him with her arm. “You’re so full of yourself, aren’t you?  And here I was, thinking you were a perfectly polite, quiet, well-behaved boy. How wrong I was.”
“I’m all of those things!” Adrien protested as he shoved an indiscriminate handful of gummies into his mouth and leaned back. “But, you know,” he added with a small wink. “What other people don’t know, won’t kill them.”
“Show-off,” Marinette teased.
“Only with the right audience,” Adrien said, defending himself.
Adrien was about to remark how Marinette was one to talk. How she convinced him of being the class sweetheart when in reality she was as sassy as they come. Unfortunately, he’d have to save that joke for later, because as they bantered, an Akuma rose in the distance.
Duty called.

Dark Quill
RIIIIIP!
Marc’s eyes widened as the Italian tore up his journal, page by page. He knew this girl was a liar, but he didn’t think she was just flat-out evil. He just asked her to stop lying about Marinette, and now this was happening!
“You made a mistake choosing to side against me!”
“I-I didn’t take sides.”, Marc managed to say despite still being in shock over his journal being destroyed, “What are you talking about?”
“Marinette, stupid!”, she hissed before tearing out another page, “You decided to side with her, you tried to defend her! I’m gonna show you why you made a horrible mistake.”, another page, RIP!
Marc was horrified. He never believed Lila’s lies and just thought she was just trying to impress her classmates, but he threw that idea out the window when he heard that Marinette was expelled for cheating, pushing Lila down the stairs, and stealing. Her. Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the sweetest girl in school. After Nathaniel told him that Lila was the one accusing her of doing such things, and that Marinette supposedly sent mean texts to Lila over the weekend when her phone was being repaired, Marc knew then and there that Lila Rossi was out to get the pigtailed girl.
Alix told him how she, Rose, Juleka, and Nathaniel tried to get everyone else to see the truth once they found out for themselves, but Lila would always turn on the waterworks and claim they were bullying her, making them look like the bad guys. They eventually stopped trying and decided to let everything crash and burn when Lila finally tells the wrong lie.
Marc wouldn’t give up so easily, though. She could lie about celebrities all she wanted, they’d eventually find out and sue for defamation. But it would be a cold day in hell before Marc let her lie about Marinette being a jealous bully…
Why did he have to confront her in an empty hallway with no witnesses?
“Since I’m so nice, I’ll give you ‘til the end of the day to choose the right side.”, she said with such malice, “But just a reminder- If you pick wrong, I will make your life hell. It’ll be too easy. They say keep an eye on the nice ones.”, she smiled evilly, “Just imagine Nathaniel’s face when he realizes that his innocent boyfriend is really a cruel, jealous bully.”
Hearing Nathaniel’s name come out of her evil mouth, Marc glared at the girl with so much hate that she took a step back, “Don’t even think about laying a finger on him!”, he felt tears about to pour out of his eyes any second, but he would not give her the satisfaction of seeing him cry
The Italian smirked, realizing that she found his trigger, “I never said anything about hurting him. A few choice words and I’ll make sure he’s disgusted at the mention of your name.”, tearing three more pages out the journal, Lila threw it to the floor, added insult to injury by stomping on it, then walked away
Once the evil Italian was out of sight, Marc dropped to his knees and cried as he picked up the remains of his journal. In his fifteen years of living, Marc’s dealt with many horrible people. Sure, they cheat and make fun of people, but there’s a reason behind it- They’re just petty, jealous, or insecure. But Lila Rossi is just evil. She gets a thrill out of hurting people; she lies to get whatever she wants. And she wants Marinette to suffer, and for Marc to be alone and hated by Nathaniel.
“Such a strong mix of emotions. Protective, devoted to his love, terrified of what may come, yearning for vengeance, a desire for justice. It’s almost too easy.” A pure white butterfly flew into the outstretched palm of Hawkmoth’s hand. Once covered with his under hand, the magic of the Miraculous transformed it into an Akuma, and it flew out the window, “Fly away my little Akuma. And evilize him!
Marc was too busy crying and picking up the pieces of his journal to hear the fluttering wings of the Akuma, and to notice it landing on his journal where it absorbed into it, turning it black. At that, Marc lifted his head up, revealing the red skin around his eyes and the dreaded Akuma symbol over his anger-present, tear-stained face
“What?”, he spat
Hawkmoth has never felt emotions this strong. It almost made him revoke the Akuma, worried of the destruction the boy may cause. No, he couldn’t let an opportunity like this go to waste. Marinette Dupain-Cheng evaded him many times, she was a ticking time bomb ready to bring about doomsday when Rossi pushed her over the edge. He’d just have to go for the next best thing…
“Dark Quill, I am Hawkmoth. With your powers, you can write your own story, create a new ending. One where this conniving villain parishes. And all when you put pen to paper.”
“… Fine. But I get to go after Rossi first.”, Hawkmoth sputtered a bit. Before he could speak and regain control, Marc continued, “You’ll get the Miraculous when I’m done. Got it?”
After a terrifying silence, Hawkmoth answered, “You may retrieve the Miraculous after you get your revenge. Do we have a deal?”, he asked, trying not to stammer, not wanting to show any fear
“Yes, Hawkmoth.”, Marc replied
At that, Marc was engulfed by a black and purple mist that bubbled up from the journal. When it dissipated Dark Quill stood in Marc’s place. The Akuma’s skin is a pale grey, he had no pupils or irises, just his white sclera. His hair became messier, and what appeared to be a hair ribbon was two red quills. A black mask covered his face, and his lips were painted black.
His outfit was a blood-red jumpsuit with a high collar, puff sleeves, and Renaissance pants. Along with the bodysuit was a black vest with blue accents, black fingerless elbow-length gloves, dark blue stud bracelets and a matching belt, and black knee-high platform boots. In his hand, he held a rolled-up scroll.
With a smirk, Dark Quill plucked one of the quills from his hair, unfurled the scroll, and began writing. “I’m coming for you, Liar Rossi.”, on the scroll, in black ink, was, ‘Those who saw the truth found their hatred for the Liar and her posse increased tenfold.’
--
Nathaniel has never wanted to punch someone so much in his life. He always thought Lila was annoying, but God! And not only her, but these idiots surrounding him.
There was Alya, who’s blog was becoming a tabloid, going on and on about Lila and her “accomplishments”.
Then Kim, who followed that girl around like a puppy. He obviously had a type- Petty and whiney when they don’t get what they want
They were all so stupid!... Well, except for Marinette, Alix, Juleka, Rose, and Adrien. Everyone else? Idiots who’ll believe the dribble that falls out of the Italian’s mouth. Nathaniel didn’t know where these thoughts were suddenly coming from. He always thought his classmates were kind of irritating from time to time, but now he just hated them… And from the dirty looks Alix and Marinette were giving their desk-mates, they felt the same way.
“Nath, did I ever tell you about my uncle? He’s a famous artist in Italy.”, Lila said, making Nathaniel roll his eyes at her obvious lie, “I could show him some of your work. He has connections with a few museums, and…”
‘Make it stop!’, he thought, rubbing hid temples to ease his headache, ‘The bell will ring soon. The bell will ring soon.’
“And who knows? Maybe he can find you a new writer for your comic!” Now that was the final straw, “No offense, but the writing seems a little subpar. I actually won a few writing contests, so I-“
“God! Will you shut up?!”, everyone in class gasped at the redhead’s outburst, “You are just so annoying! I have had put up sitting next to you and being forced to listen to your shit!”
“Nathaniel!”, Bustier scolded, “Don’t use language like that.”
Alix stood from her seat and slammed her hands down on the desk, “Cram it, Caline!”, she yelled, “That bitch just insulted Marc’s writing!”, she pointed out, casting a glare at Lila. All eyes were now on Lila. She started the waterworks and came up with a lie on the spot
“I-I didn’t mean to insult Marc.”, she stammered as she wiped her eyes, “I was just trying to help Nath get his art more recognition. B-but he yelled at me!”, she wailed, making students come to her aid, glare at Nathaniel and call him a bully. They were too mad to notice her sending a sneer the artist’s way
“Dumbasses.”, Marinette said with such malice in her voice. Everyone turned to the pigtailed girl with widened eyes. They’ve never heard her curse before.
“I’ve put up with a lot of your shit before, guys, but this? Come on. You honestly believe that thing”, she pointed a finger at Lila, “has connections? That she can get you whatever you need to succeed in life? She’s a damn fraud! Even a certified idiot can tell you that.”
The students who believed in Lila were stunned into silence. Why were they being so cruel to Lila and them? Lila didn’t lie, and they weren’t idiots.
“Yeah, and I can do without her constantly clinging to me, and touching me all the time!”, Adrien snapped
“B-but Adrien!”, Lila whined, “You said it was okay.”
“Why would I say that?”, he asked, “I despise you! You’re a liar, a thief, and just. A. Bitch.”, Nino cautiously approached him and put a hand on his shoulder
“Dude, what’s going on with you?”, he asked. At that, Adrien merely rolled his eyes and muttered what sounded like a curse word under his breath
Lila, becoming angry, ran down the stairs and tried to hold onto Adrien and remind him of his father’s threat, only for him to push her away and not reluctantly go through with it like he usually would, “Adrien, have they been manipulating you?”, she asked with a hand placed on her chest, “Did they threaten you?”
“Shut up, Rossi! We’re tired of your pathetic shit!”, Rose shouted. And once again, the students and teacher gasped as one of the sweetest girls in class cursed for them all to hear. Everything then turned to chaos. Marinette, Nathaniel, Alix, Rose, and Juleka pointed out everyone’s flaws and called out Lila’s many lies, (Not that anyone listened) while Adrien just glared at them with so much hate in his green eyes. Their classmates just looked at them, stunned. Not even Lila could do anything to stop them. They were supposed to stay silent and out of her way. When did they all grow spines?
Before they could tear into them some more, the bell rang for lunch, much to everyone’s relief. The art kids needed to take a few breaths, and the other students felt like crying or hiding in their rooms. And Lila wanted to set them straight and remind them who they were messing with.
“Finally.”, Nathaniel said, grabbing his messenger bag, “Let’s go before we lose anymore braincells.” At that, the arts kids and Adrien left the room
--
Mme. Bustier’s class walked out of the classroom minutes after comprehending what just happened and assuring Lila that it wasn’t her fault. While they were making their way to the cafeteria, all eyes were on them. None were friendly.
‘Ugh, it’s them.’
‘Lousy tabloid writer.’
‘Idiots.’
‘Is that actually her hair? I thought she had sausages taped to her face.’
‘What a liar.’
‘Jagged Stone had a cat? I thought they were supposed to be his fans.’
Alya whispered to Lila, “What’s going on? Why is everyone saying this stuff?”, she asked. Lila put on a meek demeanor and pouted
“I-I don’t know. I bet Marinette and the others are spreading lies about me.”, she wiped away a fake tear, “Now they’re turning the whole school against me!”, she whined, making Lila pull her into a hug
Watching from an empty classroom was Dark Quill. Once again, he plucked a quill and began writing, “Out of nowhere, a pencil case hit Lila on the side of her head.”
“I-I just-“, she let out a yelp as a red, black, and blue pencil case hit her on the head, “OW!”
Everyone looked for the culprit, but the other students looked just as confused, having no idea where that pencil case came from. Back in the classroom, Dark Quill continued writing, “The Akuma form of Dark Quill would soon reappear when the time was right.” A bright light engulfed Dark Quill. When it faded, Marc was in his place. The scroll and quill also changed, becoming a red pencil and a white journal
“What exactly is your plan?”, Hawkmoth asked as the Akuma symbol appeared on Marc’s face. He smirked and replied, “You’ll see.”, before he walked out of the classroom
--
“Have you guys seen Marc?”, Nathaniel asked as he sat down at a table with the other members of the art club. They all shook their heads, “I haven’t heard from him since this morning. I hope he’s okay.”
Alix grinned, “Aw, someone misses his boyfriend!”, Juleka smacked her on the shoulder
“Nath!”, the voice Nathaniel grew to hate called out, making him slam his head down on the table. They looked to see Lila and her posse walking in, only to be met with harsh glares from the other students. Nathaniel grabbed the plastic knife off of his tray and handed it to Alix before asking, “Will you be a good friend and kill me?”, but it was too late. Lila made her way over to the table and sat down between them
Marinette smiled, “Lila, I say this in the nicest possible way. Get the hell out of here before I rip those two sausages off your head.”, seeing the Italian’s astonished expression, she smirks
Lila ignores her and turns her attention back to Nathaniel, not caring about the annoyed look he was giving her, “I’m sorry about insulting Marc’s writing like that, it wasn’t my intention.”
Rose coughed into her elbow, ‘Bullshit.’
Ignoring her, Lila continued, “But I don’t think you should be hanging around him anymore. He may seem nice, but when you’re not around, he acts so mean!”, she wailed. Nathaniel rolled his eyes, “I saw him copying someone else’s story and claiming that it was his. A-and when I tried to talk him out of it, he threatened me.”, she forced a tear out of the corner of her eye
Juleka chuckled, “Great story, Lila. One of your most pathetic.”, she spat. The whole table laughed, but Lila was fuming
“I’m serious! Marc really did threaten me!”, at that, the entire cafeteria laughed, except for the few students in Bustier’s class who believed her stories
Aurore approached her, “Rossi, you’re talking about the boy who cried when we had to dissect frogs in biology.”
“And when I killed a spider.”, a brunette boy, Ismael, pointed out, “The boy is a literal saint.”
“Aw, Ismael,”, Everyone turned to the source of the touched voice and saw Marc, standing at the doorway, “you do care about me.” Ismael crossed his arms over his chest, “Do not. I’m just wondering why lil miss Lie-la is spouting bullshit about you.”
Lilla, still trying to look like the victim, held onto Alya’s arm. The creole girl shouted, “Leave her alone! She’s just trying to warn Nath.”
“Uh, last time I checked, only people I like get to call me ‘Nath’.” Alya was taken aback. Nathaniel got up from his seat, walked over to Marc and planted a kiss on his cheek, which the disguised Akuma enjoyed, “And you honestly believe that my sweet Rainbow could threaten someone?”, Marinette and Rose giggled at the adorable nickname
Alya looked a little unsure but then she saw Lila crying. She sniffed, “S-so you think I’m lying?”
“Yep.”
“Pretty much.”
“That’s what I’ve been saying.”
“It’s pretty obvious.”
“Yeah.”
Kim frowned, “Why are you guys being so mean?”
“And why are you singling us out?”, Marinette asked, now fuming, “You don’t see how everyone here hates that girl’s guts?”, she pointed to Lila, who was now scowling, throwing away the whole ‘kicked puppy’ routine, “And you all know Marc. He would never threaten anyone. He doesn’t even talk to Lila.”
Noticing their eyes shifting around the room, Marinette rolled her eyes, “You guys honestly think there’s an Akuma making us act like this? Newsflash! We’re tired of you guys!”, she jabbed at Kim’s chest with her finger, prompting him to back away.
The Akuma Class was horrified. This had to be the work of an Akuma, they just knew it. Their friends didn’t really feel this way about them, they were just being controlled by an Akuma out to get Lila
“Dude, there’s gotta be an Akuma!”
“We know it!”
“You don’t really mean what you’re saying!
“THERE’S NO AKUMA!”
A voice cut through the silence, “No. There is.” Everyone, especially Nathaniel, gasped when they saw Marc being engulfed by the same bright light from earlier. They all backed away when the light faded to reveal Dark Quill
“… Huh. I guess there was an Akuma.”, Marinette said as she backed out of the cafeteria, everyone too busy staring at the new Akuma to notice as she ran off to transform into Paris’ hero
Lila pointed to the villain, “See?! There is an Akuma after me! He’s making everyone say all these horrible things!”
“Marc?”, Nathaniel whispered, “W-what happened?”, he asked as he slowly approached his Akumatized boyfriend
“Don’t listen to him! He’s an Akuma, of course he’s gonna lie!”, Lila exclaimed
“Well sweetie, if you must know, Lila threatened me, then tore apart my journal.”, he said as he cupped Nathaniel’s cheek, “… The rest you know.”
Nathaniel’s concern faded as he slowly turned his head toward the Italian. She actually backed away when she saw the fiery rage in his turquoise eyes, “You. Did. What?!”
“Lila wouldn’t threaten anyone!”, Ivan yelled
Mylene added, “She doesn’t lie either!”
Dark Quill frowned, “God, you’re all twits.” Plucking a quill, he began to write, “Doing what she should have done months ago, Alya checks her sources.”
Alya looked confused, wondering what he meant. Then suddenly, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, “I-I’m not doing this!”, she starts typing something in the search bar while Lila desperately tries to snatch the phone out of her hands
“H-he can do whatever he wants with his powers!”, she said with desperation in her voice, “He probably got rid of all the websites that mention me!”
The class was sure that what their friend is saying was the truth. This Akuma could probably bend reality and do whatever he desired with his powers. He made every student at school hate them and Alya pull out her phone against her will. But a voice in the back of their heads told them otherwise. They often doubted Lila because of this voice, but she had no reason to lie, so they had no reason to distrust her… Right?
Alya scrolled through her phone, a look of confusion on her face, “There’s nothing here...”
“See? I told you!”, Lila yelled, “He erased every record of my accomplishments, so you all think I’m lying! He’s out to get me!”
He chuckled, “Now why would you think that?”, then wrote something else on the scroll. Five red darts materialized at his side, and the Akuma class suddenly flew across the room, leaving Lila exposed. Lila paled when she saw that the darts were aimed at her. “Rossi, all you have to do is tell the truth, and- Oh, what the hell? Let’s just get this over with!”
Lila tried to run away, but she found her feet glued to the floor. This Akuma clearly thought of everything. The darts hurdled at her and Lila closed her eyes, waiting for the darts to pierce right through her… Only for a red and black spotted yo-yo to wrap around her waist and pull her out of her shoes, leaving the darts to hit a wall. All heads turned to see Ladybug standing at the doorway, looking pissed
“Great. Once again, saving your sorry self.”, she spat, much to everyone’s shock
“I could’ve handled him myself, Ladybug! I didn’t need your help!”, Lila said in response
“Hey, idiot!”, Aurore yelled, “She saved your damn life! Show a little thanks!”
Dark Quill only grinned, “Well, it would seem Paris’s hero is aware of Miss Rossi’s lies. How convenient. Ladybug, I thought Lila was your dearest friend.”
The spotted heroine only gagged, “Please! I would rather be cataclysmed than be friends with her!”, she spun her yoyo, using it as a shield to block the darts heading for her while the class stared with their jaws hung open. ‘Lila wasn’t friends with Ladybug?’, they thought.
Then, as if summoned by the mention of his power, Chat Noir burst through the door. “Alright, let’s get this over with.” The Akuma class shuddered as the usually friendly superhero sent a glare their way. Alya even put down her phone, “Look, I get why you hate Lila. But we can’t let you hurt her.”
“Hurry up and take him down, now!”, Lila demanded
Dark Quill scowled as he wrote something down on his scroll, “Dark Blade appeared. His sword ready to cleave the liar in two!” At that, Dark Blade appeared next to him in a flash of red light. Lila’s eyes widened when she saw the armored Akuma running towards her with his sword raised. Ladybug readied her yoyo, but soon found herself being used as a human shield when Lila pushed her to the front and held her wrists so she couldn’t use her yoyo to defend herself
“What the hell?”, she screeched. Chat let out a snarl and extended his staff to duel with the knight. He then gasped, “NO!”
“Dark Blade immediately froze in place!”, Dark Quill narrated in a panicked voice as he quickly wrote on the scroll. The Akuma suddenly stopped on his tracks. Ladybug, still trying to get out of Lila’s hold, wondered why he called off the attack until she saw the familiar mess of red hair. Nathaniel stood in front of the knight; his eyes widened when he saw that the tip of the sword was only an inch away from his face, and he let out a relieved sigh.
Nathaniel backed away and locked eyes with Dark Quill. Fear was present on his grey face, and a single tear trailed down his cheek, “Marc… Rainbow, I’m fine. Really.”
Lila released Ladybug and made a run for the exit. But before she could reach the door, she fell. She looked and saw that a pair of metal shackles have formed around her ankles. Another pair, with a chain connected, appeared around her wrists. The Italian let out a yelp as she was pulled by the extra chain towards Dark Quill, who was livid
“You. Will PAY FOR THIS!”, he yelled as tears formed in his eyes
“I’m not the one who summoned the knight and almost put his stupid boyfriend in danger!”, she retorted, but then let out a scream as the shackles tightened around her wrists. “Everyone in Paris will know who you truly are!”, Dark Quill gave Nathaniel one last sad glance before writing on his scroll. He and Lila disappeared in a flash of blue light
“NO!”, Ladybug screamed
“Alya’s gone!”, Nino said frantically as he searched for his girlfriend
Chat scratched his head in confusion, “Did the Akuma take her, too?”
The Akuma class let what Lila had done sink in. They felt horrified, disgusted, and betrayed. Lila. Their supposed friend. The most honest person they know. Used Ladybug as a human shield. If she would do that, then it was clear she lied about her and Ladybug being best friends… And about everything else.
“Marinette was right…”, Mylene said what her classmates were thinking, tearfully, “Lila really is a liar.”
The scowls and sneers Alix, Rose, and Juleka have been giving their classmates earlier melted into guilty expressions. Same for the other students. They remembered all of the things they said and could barely look them in the eyes
“Nathaniel, are you alright?”, Ladybug asked him as she glanced over at the still frozen Dark Blade
“Yeah, I’m fine.”, he said, “Marc wouldn’t hurt me.”
The spotted hero smiled and let out a breath of relief, “Please don’t do that again.”
“Save Marc, and you’ve got yourself a deal.”
“Feel free to let Marc take care of Lila.”, Ivan grunted. Everyone turned to the usually pacifistic boy with astonishment. He shrugged, “You were all thinking it.”
“Where could they have gone?”, Marinette asked herself
“Well, Marc did say he would show Paris who Lila really is, and he did take Alya with him.”, Nino said, “Nadja Chamack has the most popular show in Paris, and the Ladyblog grabs everyone’s attention when there’s a livestream. They’re probably at the TVi Studio.”
“He’s going to reveal her on live tv and the Ladyblog!”, Chat Noir exclaimed
Ladybug nodded ad the capped boy, “Thanks, Nino. Let’s go Chat.”
And they were off. The tension in the cafeteria was thick as the Akuma class felt like idiots for believing Lila, and the others felt remorse for how they acted
Meanwhile, Ladybug and Chat Noir were sailing and vailing over the rooftops in the direction of the studio when their yoyo and staff suddenly beeped. They stopped on a roof and used the phone setting on their weapons; a live stream of the Ladyblog was playing
“Hello, viewers.”, Alya greeted, but not in her usual ‘live on the scene reporter’ tone. Her voice had a hint of ire, but she tried to mask it with a strained smile, “Alya here, and once again, I’ve been kidnapped by an Akuma. But don’t worry, I’m not going to be sacrificed like last time.”, she joked, then panned the phone around to show Lila, tied up on the couch next to a terrified Nadja “The Akuma is having me do a livestream so everyone will see Lila for who she really is!”, she snapped, “This girl used Ladybug as a damn shield!”
“Alya, you can throttle Miss Rossi later.”, the young reporter panned her phone over to Dark Quill, “Right now, let’s introduce our guests.”, using a quill plucked from his hair, he wrote on the scroll, “Bursting through the doors was Jagged Stone, Clara Nightingale, and Prince Ali.”
The cameras turned to the doors as Jagged, Clara, and the Prince made their way into the room. The celebrities and royal looked very confused, “Now how did we get here?”, Jagged asked
“What are we doing in this place?”, Clara asked before pointing to Lila, “And why does that girl look red in the face?”
Ali spoke, “Um, I was at a very important meeting. I shouldn’t be here right now.”
“Oh, this will only take a moment.”, Dark Quill said, and they backed away at the sight of the Akuma, “Have a seat.”
They nodded, not wanting to anger the Akuma, and made their way over to the couch. They casted a confused glance over to the tied-up girl, “Who’s she?”, Jagged asked, and Lila internally screamed
“Oh, Jagged, you don’t remember Lila? The girl you wrote a song about?”
Jagged sputtered, “Wrote a song?! About a teenage girl?!”, he stood up and faced the cameras, “That is just sick! I am in my bloody late thirties!”, he exclaimed
“Why, the girl tied up next to you, of course.”, Dark Quill, gestured to Lila with a taunting smile. Jagged gave the girl an incredulous look, “You were so grateful that she saved your poor kitten from being run over by an airplane, gaining a hearing loss in the process.”
“That is false!”, the Rockstar shouted, “I never owned a kitten in my life! I’m highly allergy to animal fur!”, he points to Lila, “Whatever this girl is saying about me is false!”
Clara gasped, “How could she say such falsehoods? They’ll only do worse than good.”, she rhymed
“So true Mme. Nightingale.”, Dark Quill nodded, “So I’m sure you absolutely abhor the lies she’s been telling about you, hm?”, off Clara’s stunned reactions, he continues, “According to Lila, she taught you some of your best dance movies, but you didn’t give her credit.”, he sent a sneer at the Liar, she returned the look
“SHE WHAT?!”, Clara yelled in anger, much to everyone’s shock, “All of my dance moves come from only me! Not from this… This LYING HUSSY!”, everyone in the studio went silent as soon as they heard the pop-star curse. Jagged stifled a laugh, Prince Ali covered his mouth in shock, Nadja hid her face with the papers in her hands, and Lila just glared at everyone in the room, “I apologize for such a harsh word, but it seemed appropriate for this wretched girl! I take my dancing seriously, and I hope miss Rossi gets punished harshly…”
The prince lets out a cough after a few seconds of silence, “H-has she said anything about…”, the Akuma quickly turned to him, making the prince sink into his seat, “…me?”
Dark Quill smiled, “Yes, your majesty. Whenever Lila wasn’t in school, she was spending time at the palace with you, helping your with your environmental charities, crying whenever you and some other prince would fight over here.”, he lets out a dark chuckle then grabs Lila’s face, “But what’s there to fight over, really?”
Lila thrashes in her chains, “I was just jealous of my friends, okay?! I just wanted them to like me!”, she wailed, ignoring the heat radiating off of the music artists and Prince
“Are you kidding me?”, Jagged asked as he rubbed his temples, “She’s kidding right?”
Alya groaned, “God, I feel stupid.”
Dark Quill summoned his scroll, and pulled out another quill, “Time for you to finally tell the truth, Lie-la.” On the scroll, he began writing, “Lila Rossi finally revealed every lie she’s to-“, before he could write the last two letters, Ladybug and Chat Noir burst into the room, “Oh, great.”
“GET ME OUT OF HERE!”, Lila screeched
Ladybug ignored her and approached the Akuma, “Dark Quill, you got your revenge. Just surrender now.”
Dark Quill scoffed, “Oh, I haven’t even started!”, he grabs Lila and hoists her up by the front of her shirt, “I want this she-demon to reveal everything! Then I’ll make sure Paris never has to deal with her ever again!”, he let go of the scroll, and it floated in front of him. He wiped his hand over the sentence he was writing before the heroes barged in, making the ink disappear. Dark Quill wrote, “The Akuma, the Liar, and the amateur reporter teleported out of the studio.”
A white light engulfed him, Lila, and Alya. Chat tried to grab Dark Quill, but he vanished out of the room, and Chat ended up on the floor, “M’lady, maybe it’s time to break out the Lucky Charm?”
“I think so too.”, she agreed, then yelled out, “LUCKY CHARM!”
A red feather floated down gently into her hands, “A feather?”
Chat shook his head, “I don’t think he’s ticklish.”
“That’s a rooster feather.”, Jagged said as she walked over to Ladybug. The spotted heroine handed him the Lucky Charm object, “Yeah, my old man bred a few when I was young. I’d recognize one of these anywhere.”
As Ladybug examined the feather, she realized what she was meant to do with it, “I got it! Thanks, Jagged!”, the rockstar beamed at the praised from the hero. Ladybug turned to Chat, “Go look for Dark Quill, call me when you find him.”
“I can have the news choppers look around if that’ll help.”, Nadja suggested
“It will!”, at that, the two heroes ran out of the station.
--
Ladybug ran into an alley, “Spots off.”
After the detransformation, Tikki floated in front of her, “What are you planning, Marinette?”
“When I was battling Kwamibuster, I remember seeing a rooster Kwami.”
Tikki perked up, “Orikki?”, Marinette nodded, “Who do you have in mind for the job?”
“The one person who can help Marc now.”
--
The drawers of the Miracle Box opened before her as Master Fu gave her the warning about the Miraculous getting into the wrong hand and choosing only people she could trust.
Marinette reached down to pick up the thumb ring. “I know just the person.”
--
In the Louvre, Alix was furiously skating around the gallery while Nathaniel, Juleka, and Rose watch, “GOD! She was exposed on live tv, and still tries to make herself look like the victim!”, she exclaimed, “Whatever Marc’s gonna do to her, she deserves it!”
Juleka furrowed her brow, “I hope it isn’t too bad.”
Alix stopped skating, “Huh?”
“Well, Marc said he make sure Paris never had to deal with her ever again.”, she reminded the pink-haired girl. Rose’s eyed widened, “… He wouldn’t.”
“No.”, Rose covered her mouth
Nathaniel shook his head, “N-no. Marc wouldn’t do that!”, he denied
“I don’t know Nath. He did summon Dark Blade to slice her open.”, Alix reminded him, horrified
“Nathaniel!”, the four of them turned to see Ladybug running into the room, “I need you!”
Nathaniel choked on his own spit, “E-excuse me?!”
“I need you to tell me. How much do you want Marc back?”
“I-I’d do anything! He’s still in there, I just…”, he wipes a tear forming at the corner of his eye. Ladybug rested a hand on his shoulder and smiled, “Well, you can help him.”
The four of them watched as Ladybug held a hexagonal box in front of the redhead
“Nathaniel Kurtzberg, here is the Miraculous of the Rooster, which grants the power of distraction. You will use it for the greater good. Once the job is done, you will return the Miraculous to me.”
Nathaniel was speechless, and just stared at the box resting in Ladybug’s hands. When ten seconds passed buy and Nathaniel didn’t say or do anything, Ladybug waved her hand in front of his face, “Nathaniel?
Alix snapped her fingers in front of his face, “Nath? Bud?... I don’t think- Oh! He’s falling!”, Juleka and Rose catch him before he can fall to the floor, and help him back up
Helping Ladybug save Marc was one thing but being a superhero?! Nathaniel couldn’t believe it. He wanted to scream and jump on his bed… But what if he failed? He’d disappoint Ladybug and… Marc.
“Nath, you gotta do it.”, Alix told him as he was brought back into reality, “Marc needs you.”
“I…”
Juleka gave him a reassuring smile, “You got this.”
“Do it, Nath!”, Rose screamed as she shook him by his shoulders
“Alright, I’ll do it.”
Ladybug placed the box in his hands. Nathaniel opened it, revealing a bronze thumb ring inside. It was two loops connected by a single chain and adorned with a feather decoration. There was a bright flash of light that spiraled around Nathaniel, and the art kids shielded their eyes for a moment before looking at the little Rooster-like creature floating in front of them
“Hi! Nice to meet you! I’m Orikko! You must be glad to meet me!” Nathaniel and Juleka just stared with their jaws hung open, Alix has already seen a Kwami, so she wasn’t too impressed, and Rose was trying not to squeal at how adorable the Kwami was, “Ooh! I love your hair!”, they gathered Nathaniel’s bangs in their hair and moved them to the side, “I am going to have so much fun styling it!”
“W-what are you, exactly?”, Nathaniel asked
“Why, I’m a Kwami! I give you powers, enhanced abilities. Just put the ring on you thumb and say the words: Orikki, sunrise!”
Nathaniel nodded and slipped it on his thumb, “Orikko! Sunrise!”
The Kwami flew into the Miraculous, turning it gold and adding a red enamel feather that connected the two rings. A yellow beak appeared over Nathaniel’s face and extended into a red mask that covered his face. His hair swept back into a faux hawk, and the tips were colored a red much darker than his hair. His outfit was similar to Rena Rouge’s, only the boots were yellow, the bodysuit was a burnt orange color, the underbelly was yellow, he had elbow-length dark red gloves, and the ends of the tail looked like feathers. In his hand, formed a formed a golden bow
Royt Hon was ready!
Meanwhile, Chat Noir was at the top of the Eiffel Tower, sword fighting with Riposte as news helicopters hovered around them and recorded the fight, along with Lila, tied up with rope and dangling over the railing of the fence. Dark Quill was plucking the rope and cackling as Lila screamed whenever she felt a vibration, thinking she was going to fall
“I’ll give you one last chance, Rossi!”, the scroll appeared next to him in a puff of smoke and unfurled, “Just tell Paris the truth, and make things easier!”
“I’M NOT LYING! LADYBUG WILL BE HERE ANY MINUTE!”, she screeched
Dark Quill sighed, “You just have to make things complicated.”, he plucked one of the red quills, and began writing, “Once the last lie has been told, Lila Rossi shall meet her demise!”
“Dark Quill, what are you doing? Don’t kill her! That is an order!”
“You want me to write a death scene for you?...”, he was met with silence, “Then zip it! Now tell all of Paris you’re lies, Rossi!”
”I… I hate Ladybug!”, Lila yelled, clearly against her own will, “I want her dead!”
Alya gasped, nearly dripping her phone, and judging by Dark Quill’s widened eyes, he was not expecting that. The citizens watching from below frowned and started yelling. Ladybug was their hero, so anyone who hated her was public enemy #3, before Hawkmoth and Mayura
“Why do you hate her?”, he asked
“That bitch ruined my chances with Adrien! He should be MINE! All I did was lie about being some damn fox hero! Who gives a shit?! Every time I get myself Akumatized, I try everything to get rid of that stupid bug!”
Alya and Chat were speechless. Dark Quill was horrified, as were the citizens below
“You… Get yourself Akumatized on purpose?”
“Yeah! That’s how much I hate those heroes! Every time there’s an Akuma attack, I just laugh whenever Ladybug is crushed, thrown into a wall, or worse!”
“And the celebrities you’ve met? The places you’ve visited?”, Dark Quill asked, getting over his shock
“They were telling the truth back at the studio!”, she admitted, “I don’t know any of them! Jagged Stone never even owned a cat!”
Before Dark Quill could ask another question, Alya called out, “What about Marinette?! Was everything she said about you true?”
“Duh! All that self-righteous pain in the ass had to do was fall in line like the rest of you idiots! But instead, she decided to go to was with me! So I tried to ruin her life! I framed her for everything! She didn’t push me down the stairs, I put my necklace in her locker, and I put the answer sheet in her backpack! And everyone was too stupid to check the security cameras!”
Back at Dupont, the students and teachers were watching the live stream with looks of rage and disgust. M. Damocles even ordered the custodian to check the security footage from when those incidents took place
“And why do you hate here?”
“Because she stole Adrien from me! His dad even gave me a modeling contract so I would keep them apart because I told him she was a bad influence!”
Chat Noir lost focus when he heard that, and Riposte used that moment to attack and overpower him. He was now pinned to the floor with Riposte’s sword just inches away from his face
“Anything else you’d like to admit?”, he sneered
“I tore up Marc Anciel’s stupid journal and threatened to make everyone hate him!”, she glared at the Akuma with all of the hate in the world, but he smirked.
“Well, if that’s all, you should be plummeting in three… two… one.”, and at that, the rope snapped, and Lila was falling to her death
“NO!”, Chat yelled
Alya covered her mouth in horror, “Oh my God!”
It seems as though luck was not on Lila’s side. The trampoline the firefighters used to catch people jumping out of burning buildings had a massive hole, so nothing was keeping her from becoming a stain on the ground. She was halfway from her doom when suddenly, a red and orange blur swooped in, and she found herself on the second floor of the tower. She looked up and scowled when she was met with a new hero
“Who are you?”, she spat, only to receive a hate-filled glare from the rooster-themed hero
“Just stay here, and don’t do anything stupid… Liar.”, and he leaped away
“Is that all you’ve got, Ladybug?!”, Dark Quill shouted as he swiftly dodged her yo-yo. Behind him, Chat Noir was still pinned to the floor by Riposte, his staff was out of his reach, “Just hand over your Miraculous!”, an arrow suddenly shot past his head, “What the…”
The arrow hit Riposte, and she disappeared into pieces of shredded paper. Chat Noir was back on his feet, and ready to join the fight. Royt Hon leaped onto the railing, holding the bow in his left hand, and a glowing arrow in his right. Alya held up her phone to film the new hero.
“Good to see you again, m’lady. I wasn’t eggspecting a new hero.”, he joked. Ladybug let out a groan, and Royt Hon chuckled a little
“The name’s Royt Hon.”, he answered before turning to Dark Quill with a soft look, “Marc, this cant be what you want. I know you’re not a violent person.”, he said calmly. Dark Quill was stunned for a moment before he scowled and his grip tightened on his quill as he wrote again
“YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M LIKE!”, he screamed, then multiple heat-seeking missiles appeared at his side. He pointed to the heroes, and the missiles went after their targets. While they were preoccupied, Dark Quill jumped from down, ready to get rid of the liar once again
Ladybug used her yoyo to grab one missile and fling it into two, making them blow up. Chat smacked one into another, the same result. Royt Hon got his bow ready and pulled back the string. Five glowing arrows appeared, and when he released, they shot right through the remaining  missiles, and they blew up
“Nice shooting, Royt!”, Chat complimented as he patted him on the back, much to the Rooster hero’s gratitude
“We better go. He’s probably after Lila.”, Ladybug rolled her eyes at the mention of the liar’s name, then she turned to Alya, “You should go home.”
The journalist nodded, “I will. And I’ll be making a new post on a certain someone.”, she said with hatred in her voice before walking towards the elevator
“Lie-la!...”, he called out, “I’m not gonna drop you this time!... Maybe.”
The liar, still tied up, hid behind once of the beams and tried to keep her breathing quiet as this psychotic Akuma searched for her. How could Hawkmoth do this?! He should’ve akumatized her! Not some pathetic loser out to kill her!
“Found you.”
Lila paled as the Akuma threw her to the cold hard floor. She looked up and saw Dark Quill approaching her with a look that said, ‘I’m going to kill you.’, and as she prepared for her demise, she heard…
“SUNRISE!”
Lila and Dark Quill shielded their eyes as a being made of light approached them. Dark Quill tried to open his eyes and write something that would get rid of this blinding white light, but he couldn’t concentrate and shielded his eyes again.
“CATACLYSM!”
Dark Quill felt the scroll disintegrate in his hands, and heard the flap of a butterfly’s wings, followed by, “No more evil-doing for you little Akuma! Time to de-evilize! Gotcha! Bye-bye, little butterfly.”
Dark Quill uncovered his eyes and was relieved to find the bright light has finally dimmed. He saw Royt Hon, giving him a look of concern, and Chat Noir handing Ladybug a pair of ladybug-print sunglasses. She tossed them into the air and shouted,
“MIRACULOUS LADYBUG!”
The sunglasses exploded into millions of ladybugs that flew all around Paris, fixing the damage caused by the Akuma. Jagged and Clara returned to their hotel rooms, Ali was back at Achu, much to the relief of the castle staff. Dark Blade, still frozen in the cafeteria disappeared, and Lila was no longer tied up.
Dark Quill was engulfed in purple energy that vanished to reveal Marc, who blinked in confusion. “W-where am I? What happened?”, he felt a hand on his shoulder and turned to see Royt Hon giving him a sympathetic look, “What did I do?”, he asked fearfully
Hawkmoth sighed, “Maybe it was for the best. His emotions were too strong, I couldn’t even control his actions… Another time, perhaps. Now that Miss Rossi is out of the picture.”
“YOU TRIED TO KILL ME, YOU WORTHLESS NOBODY!”, Lila screeched. Royt Hon glared and wrapped his arms around Marc, making him blush. Before Lila could say more, Ladybug approached her, looking furious and her fists shaking, ready to punch her. Chat Noir even extended his staff and bared his claws. She backed away
“Like you would hurt me!”, she gloated
“Oh, I think she has every right.”, she turned her head and saw Alya, holding up her phone, still recording, “You just exposed yourself live in front of Paris. Admitting your hatred for the city’s beloved hero, framing Marinette, and working with a known terrorist!”
“I-I…”, she pointed to Marc, “He made me say those things! They were all lies! He’s jealous me, just like Marinette!”, she claimed, crocodile tears already forming
“Why would I be jealous of a lying bitch?”
Lila let out a gasp and cried harder, “See? He hates me!”
“Oh, I could think of much worse.”, Chat muttered before turning to Royt Hon, “Royt, get Marc out of here. We’ll deal with Rossi.
“I’ll get your Miraculous later.”, Ladybug added as she cracked her knuckles, and Chat cracked his neck. Royt sent the liar a smirk before gathering Marc in his arms bridal style and carrying him away. Alya stormed over to Lila, her fists ready
“I posted lies because of you! I called my best friend jealous!”, she shouted as Lila back into a corner to get away from the angry reporter, and the even angrier heroes
Royt landed outside the school and set Marc down, “Are you alright.”
“Yeah. Thanks.”, he smiled before worry took over, “Where’s Nath? Is he alright?!”
“Uh… Yeah!”, he answered, “I saw him and three girls by the Louvre, actually.”
Marc sighed with relief, “Oh, thank God. I gotta apologize. I almost hurt him, he must hate me-!”, Royt reacted and took his hand in his
“He knows you didn’t mean to. You weren’t in control, he understands that. You just didn’t want Lila to hurt you or Nathaniel…”
Marc smiles, “Thank you…”
Royt blushes, “No problem…”, he started leaning in, but suddenly felt Marc’s hand on his chest, stopping him. He gives the boy and confused look
“I-I have a boyfriend.”, Marc said, looking away in embarrassment
The Rooster hero remembered that he wasn’t Nathaniel right now and internally face palmed, “Heh. Sorry! Sorry about that…”, they suddenly heart a beeping sound. Royt looked and saw that the feather on his ring was flashing. ‘Thank you.’, he thought, “I should go. I’ll see you around.”, and he jumped up to the roof of the school and went from rooftop to rooftop
“Yeah…”
“You should have seen them!”, Orikko gushed as Ladybug giggled at the sight of Nathaniel’s red face, “It was so cute! I haven’t seen sparks fly like that since Captain Phoenix met Lady Lacro Iris on one of her expeditions!”
“Okay, okay, back in the box.”, the Kwami groaned, gave Nathaniel one last hug, then returned back to the ring. “Thanks, Nathaniel.”
“It was an honor working with you and Chat Noir!”, he admitted, his voice laced with joy before turning butter, “So, what happened to Lila?”
“Let’s just say that Karma finally caught up with her.”, she pulled out her yoyo and prepared to swing away, “And since the other heroes have been compromised, I’ll be sure to find you when the situation calls for Royt Hon.”, before Nathaniel could say anything, she swung away. He looked around to make sure he was alone, and squealed
“NATH!”, Alix yelled as she ran out of the Louvre and tackled him to the ground, “YOU WERE AWESOME!”
“We saw it all on the Ladyblog!”, Rose squealed
“You were a total badass.”, Juleka complimented
Alix got off of him and help him back in his feet, “So, how’s Marc?”
Before Nathaniel could answer, a voice called out, “Nath!” The redhead whirled around and saw Marc, a look of relief on his face. The two ran towards each other, and met with a loving embrace, “I’m so sorry.”
Nathaniel chuckled and ran his fingers through Marc’s hair, “It’s okay, Rainbow. It’s okay… Lila’s gone.”, seeing Marc’s smile, he kissed his soft pink lips as Rose and Juleka awed while Alix nodded with approval
“I don’t really care but… What happened to Lila?”, Alix asked
Ladybug and Chat Noir sat in the park, eating macarons and watching Lila being pushed into a police car as she kicked and scream while a woman, who had a similar appearance to her cried and cursed in Italian. Onlookers took pictures of the exposed liar, no doubt they were going to spread her name and turn her into a pariah
“I have been waiting for this for a long time.”, Ladybug said as she but into a macaron. Chat responded with a nod, and the two fist bumped

Frozer (Revamped)
Summary: A rewrite of season 2, episode 8, AKA, where Adrien does reveal himself, Ladybug becomes the embodiment of YEET, and what we all wanted to see happen ACTUALLY happens.
It had been another day, another successful rescue, thanks to none other than Ladybug and Chat Noir. It should have been just like any other day. But that was the funny thing about life, wasn’t it? Some days just had a way of surprising you.
It had been a spur of the moment decision to grab the rose from the rescued man’s bouquet, but once he did it, Chat Noir felt emboldened, powered, invigorated. He knelt to a knee, holding out the rose to his beloved Lady, in the same way he offered his heart. “For you, My Lady.”
She gaped at him for a stunned moment, before she regained her bearings, shaking her head with an amused huff. “Seriously, Cat Noir?” She asked, gently pushing the rose back. “You’re about to transform back.” she argued in amusement, pointing to the very hand which held the rose.
He brought his hand back to look at his ring, seeing the blinking paw pad that said he indeed was in danger of running out of time. But he could only smile with a shrug. “So what?”
She shook her head, her amusement vanishing with exasperation. “Cat Noir, I told you, we can’t know each other’s secret identities- it’s too dangerous.”
He rose to his feet, his smile never leaving as a sense of relief flooded him. “But then we won’t have to keep secrets from each other anymore,” He argued, holding the back of his hand up to show her his blinking miraculous, the neon green pawprint acting as a countdown.
“What? Cat Noir, no!”
Too late. Even as she yelled, the ring of energy crackled up his body, his leather catsuit vanishing to reveal his civilian clothes underneath, and his mask vanishing to show his face. Plagg tumbled out of the ring, and the tiny cat gasped, jaw dropping. “A-” he hiccuped, the magic preventing him from accidentally “revealing” his master, no matter the circumstances. “What are you doing!?”
Too bad Ladybug had slapped her hands over her eyes before she could see.
“Ladybug?”
“Cat Noir, how many times do I have to tell you!” She snapped at him, turning smartly around. “I can’t know who you are!”
Perhaps, normally, he might have given up, and relented, letting this disappointment pass, and go on his way. But fate had been kind to him today. For the roof they had landed on had been picked at random, yet it was one that also had a clear, uninterrupted view of a massive billboard- of a certain fragrance with a certain boy promoting it.
“But Ladybug, you already know who I am! All of Paris knows who I am!”
“What?”
“Open your eyes.”
“No way,” she said with finality. “You’ll just jump in front of me!” she said, even as she heard the first telltale sign of her earrings losing power.
“I swear I haven’t moved, and I promise won’t!” He promised. “But the answer is right in front of you! Please, my Lady, just open your eyes!”
She really should’ve known better than to trust him, but what he said wasn’t making sense to her. ‘Everyone in Paris knew who he was’? ‘The answer was right in front of her’? What on earth was he talking about?
So slowly, very slowly, she dropped her hands. And she flushed when she saw the bright, smiling face of the boy she loved leaping into the sky, carefree and gorgeous in the promotion for his father’s new cologne line. She could practically hear the soft, delicate music of the commercial jingle, see him jumping in graceful slow motion toc eap through the clouds. She almost, almost sighed dreamily.
“Cat Noir,” she said instead, her confusion evident. “What is this about?”
“I’m Adrien Agreste!”
Silence. She was turned around, so he didn’t see her flat, deadpan expression.
“Very funny.”
“I’m serious!”
“Right. And I’m secretly Chloe Bourgeois.”
“Now that would be a funny joke,” he almost laughed.
Plagg, during this time, had taken to darting impatiently back and forth beside his master’s head. “C’moooon, she’s not gonna turn around, let’s hurry up and go! I’m starving here!”
“Seriously, Plagg?” Adrien leered at him, more than a little annoyed even as he took out the spare piece of Camembert he always kept with him. “Can’t you think of anything beside your stomach for once?”
“Is that your kwami?” Ladybug asked. “Tell Cat Noir to get out of here and he can’t show himself like this!”
“Yeeeeeah, you’re on your own for that one,” Plagg leaned back, casually taking a bite to indulge in his smelly cheese. “He may act like a nice kid, but this guy basically just does whatever he wants.”
“Wait! I can prove it!” He realized suddenly, “You’ve been to my house, I can tell you everything in there!”
“Except you’ve been to his house too,” she said tiredly. “Honestly Cat Noir, isn’t this taking it a little far, even for you?”
“I wouldn’t joke about this, my Lady!” He said, an edge of desperation entering his tone.
At this point, Plagg took the final bite of his cheese. “Ah, that hit the spot. C’mon Adrien, let’s head back- those video games aren’t playing themselves you know!”
“What?!”
She whirled around, fast enough to give a normal person whiplash, her eyes huge with shock against her mask. Plagg blinked in surprise, wondering how on earth he had said his name now when he couldn’t before. Adrien beamed, the nervous knot that had been forming in his chest releasing in a whoosh as she finally faced him.
“Yes!” He rushed forward, grasping her hand as the rush of his emotions poured out of him like a broken dam. “Now we can be united! More powerful and free! We’ll defeat Hawkmoth, then we can both run away- to an island! Far away from everything!” He released her hands, gesturing wildly as his imagination got the better of him. “We’ll live off nothing but fruits, and we’ll have a cute little pet hamster and name it-”
“Cat Noir!?”
He blinked at her, before smiling a little shyly. “Uh, yeah, that’s me.”
Her shock hadn’t lessened a bit, eyes still comically wide. “But, but you can’t be Cat Noir!”
“Uh...” He glanced at his equally confused kwami. “But, you just saw me.”
“But you can’t be! There must be some mistake! You’re so perfect and dreamy not to mention cool and kind-”
He perked. “You think I’m ‘dreamy’?”
“Yes~” she sighed, before shaking herself. “I mean no! I mean-!” She squeaked. “You and Cat Noir are completely different! You’re so polite, and modest, and kind, but Cat Noir is-!”
“I know,” he sighed sadly. “I can’t ever do anything that could ruin my father’s reputation. But it’s different when I’m with you!” He held the rose against his chest eagerly. “When I’m Cat Noir I can be myself! No expectations, no restrictions, I can be a cool, strong superhero, like you! Well, maybe not like you, I know I could never measure up. You’re so smart, and cool, and...”
But she wasn’t listening to his praise, too stunned at his previous statements to function. ‘I can be myself- I can be myself- I can be myself-’
“Ladybug?”
And then Ladybug, cool, strong, perfect hero of Paris, screamed and hurled her yoyo to swing herself off the roof.
Adrien blinked at the spot after her, turning to his equally stunned kwami. “Man,” Plagg said. “You humans sure have strange dating rituals. I’d think a simple “not interested” would suffice.”
“What?!” Adrien looked at him fearfully. “You think she rejected me?”
“Well what would you call it, then? That didn’t look like a “yes” to me.”
He looked at him, stricken, realizing that for once, Plagg seemed to have hit the nail on the head. He looked at the rose sadly before letting his hand drop, a single petal breaking off and floating to the floor.
Across town, Ladybug made it to her family’s bakery and leaped through her window into her room. Barely.
“Tikki this is a nightmare!” She cried as her miraculous powered off, leaving her in her normal state. Her buggy kwami spun out, becoming an impromptu listener for the girl’s distraught raving. “Cat Noir is Adrien and Adrien is Cat Noir! Which makes even less sense the more I think about it because they’re not even remotely close to being the same person!”
“Marinette, I think you’re over thinking this.”
“How is this possible?! All this time I’ve been fighting alongside him and he’s been joking and goofing around with his lame puns and ridiculous flirting-” She gasped suddenly, sharply, hands going to her mouth. “He flirted with me. Tikki, Adrien flirted with me!”
“He flirted with Ladybug,” Tikki pointed out.
“That’s right!” Marinette grabbed at her head in frustration. “How could I forget- Cat Noir’s in love with- I mean Adrien is in love with-”
Because she was pacing and turning about, she was able to face her wall- her special wall, where there were pictures and clippings plastered of a certain blond, green-eyed boy, in all his best modeling poses. Suave, debonair, cool and collected, but with a kind smile that just made your heart melt and go afflutter at the same time.
While Cat Noir thought he was the cat’s meow, but all his “smooth moves” were really just an annoyance. He was cocky and zealous, way too full of himself and obnoxious with his flirting, and when he smiled Marinette could only expect another silly cat-themed pun.
I can be myself!
Marinette slid to the floor with a whimper, letting her hands fall to support herself before she faceplanted spectacularly. “Cat Noir is Adiren. Cat Noir is the real Adrien!”
“He said it himself,” Tikki pointed out as she floated about. “As Cat Noir, he doesn’t have to worry about ruining his father’s reputation.”
“But Tikki, how could I not have known this?” Marinette despaired, raising a hand to count off her fingers. “I know his school schedule, his work schedule, his favorite fashion, his favorite food, his past and home life, and not once did I think he could be a totally different person!”
“He had to keep it a secret, Marinette,” Tikki reminded. “You should understand that better than anyone!”
“Right. As Ladybug,” she affirmed, letting her hand drop. “The perfect, confident superhero. Of course Adrien would go for someone like that.”
Or at least he would, if he wasn’t failing so spectacularly in fencing at the moment. Kagami’s taunts of “predictable” were a bitter reminder of his poor mental state as he lost round after round against her. It felt like a cruel reflection of his current love life.
He sat by the lockers, pulling out the rose from his gym bag to look at it forlornly.
“Plagg? Did I make a mistake?”
From his bag, his kwami looked up worriedly at him, only his bright green eyes visible from the shadows. But his worry was clear from the way that for once, he tried to be sincere. “Well, you know how Ladybug feels about your secret identities.”
“I know, it’s just… I guess I’d been hoping once it was out in the open, we could put that behind us, and she’d change her mind. Looks like I was wrong.”
Plagg would have said something, but the door opened and he buried himself further into the bag as Kagami strode in to look down at Adrien.
"What's going on, Adrien? I usually enjoy defeating you, but it's no fun when you make it that easy."
He deflated, eyes never leaving the rose.  "Do you ever get the feeling that you're stuck, Kagami? That no matter what you do, it's the same old story, over and over again? That things will never... ever change?"
Kagami would not call herself "kind". She was not compassionate, or empathetic. But even she, seeing how distraught her fencing partner was, couldn't find it in her to be dismissive of his dilemma. She could only guess, from the way he held the red rose, that his heart beat in vain for another. She took the spot beside him, prepping herself to give some advice that was hard for some to hear. "...Adrien, the biggest mistake a fencer can make isn't choosing the wrong technique. It's choosing the wrong target." He wasn't looking at her, his dejection solely focused on the symbol of his rejection. So she reached out, gently pulling his chin so he would look her in the eye, and take her message to heart. "Change. Targets."
She released him, offering a smile, and despite himself, he returned it. As he looked at the rose again, he could see the wisdom in her advice. For months he had been chasing his Lady, with nothing to show for it. Ladybug was high above them all, with impenetrable walls surrounding her. Many had tried to breach them, but all had failed. He’d thought that, maybe if he brought down his walls first, she’d be willing to do the same.
But it was clear that wasn’t the case. He was still never going to reach her.
So he smiled at Kagami, and offered her the rose.
Which led to a very unexpected outcome the next day at school.
Marinette had barely slept that night. Actually, she didn’t sleep at all that night. Her mind had been a chaotic mess of memories and connecting the dots. Trying to reconcile Adrien’s perfect image with Chat Noir’s lame goofiness was proving a near impossible task She had been too wrapped up in her own worries and anxiety, so of course she bumped into someone, as was her usual luck. It was just a bonus that someone happened to be Adrien.
“Marinette!” He smiled, eagerly helping her up. “Perfect timing!”
“What?” She squeaked. “W-what do you mean? It’s not like I was thinking about you or anything!”
He raised a confused brow, before he chuckled, shaking his head. “No, I mean for me. I need some advice right now. Can we talk?”
“Talk? Now?” She grimaced, darting her eyes around for a quick escape, looking anywhere but at him. Right now all she could see was his last impression yesterday, with him rambling and wiggling like an overexcited schoolgirl. “U-um, actually now’s not a great time. I-I said I’d meet up with Alya to go over last night’s homework! And-”
“Wait!” He squeezed her hand before she ran off, looking to her desperately. “I just need a few minutes! Please, Marinette, you’re the only one I can talk to!”
She stared, caught in his gaze like a deer in headlights. Big, bright, green headlights. Hopeful headlights that tugged at your heartstrings and made your thought process a puddle of lovestruck goo. How could she refuse when he was begging for her help like that?
You’re the only one I can talk to!
Talk to-
Talk to...
“Sure thing...” she sighed with a dreamy smile.
“Great!” He said in relief. “Ok, well,” he led her to the bench in the school’s inner courtyard, letting his bag drop, and she did the same. “I’m sorry, this is a bit awkward for me, cuz, this is about a girl.”
It was at this point Marinette froze as she connected the dots. ‘Oh no, he’s going to ask me what to do about Ladybug! What should I do?! I can’t let him know it’s me! B-but if he asks how to win her over I have to pretend I don’t know what he’s talking about and-’
“Oh, a-a girl?” She stammered, looking up to feign curiosity, though she couldn’t help her panicked smile. “What kind of girl?”
“A pretty amazing one, actually,” he admitted, smile turning a tad shy as he looked up, getting lost in his own daydream. “She’s strong, and confident, and it seems like she could do almost anything. And she’s really pretty. She has dark, silky hair, and these deep, mysterious eyes...”
Of course, so caught up in his own world, he didn’t notice Marinette sighing as she looked dreamily at him. She never thought she’d live to see the day Adrien would be saying all these amazing things about her.
“But I don’t even know the first thing about how to take the next step with her,” He concluded, turning back to her a little worriedly. “You have any ideas?”
“I- w-well, I don’t know,” she stammered as she brought herself back to the present. Well, tried. But there was still a tiny, goofy smile she couldn’t help as she bit her lip. “Maybe if I knew who she is?”
“Oh, right! It’s Kagami.”
“Kagami?!” She blurted, the name breaking her out of her dreamy state in an instant. “The ice queen!?”
She slapped a hand over her mouth, just as Adrien gaped.
“I-I meant the ice rink!” she said hastily. “Everyone loves the ice quee- rink! Wait wait wait,” she waved her hands quickly. “Hold the phone! It can’t be Kagami, you like-” And for the second time in less than ten seconds, Marinette had to slap a hand over her mouth again, making Adrien lean over with suspicion. And a little concern. “Uh, no one!” she concluded. “I thought you didn’t like anyone!”
“Marinette, are you ok? You’re acting weird.”
“Weird? No, I’m not acting weird, I’m just surprised, I mean… you never mentioned liking her before,” she saved quickly.
“Yeah. I didn’t really see her that way at first, but recently I started seeing her a little differently.”
“Recently?” She clarified, a niggling worry gnawing at her. “How recently?”
“Um, yesterday, actually,” he admitted, cheeks going a little flush.
Yesterday? But that was when he’d revealed himself, and confessed to her, and she-
- … she ran away from him!
Her jaw dropped, hands going to her face as she realized the scope of the horror before her. This was a disaster! She’d run away from Adrien without thinking, probably making him think she hated him and sending him right into Kagami’s waiting arms! AUGH, she was such an idiot!
“Marinette? Marinette!” Adrien called, waving a hand in front of her face. “Are you sure you’re ok? Should I take you to the nurses office?”
“No! No no, I’m fine, really!” She said, snatching up her bag. “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine!”
“Alright, then.” he stood as well, offering a smile. “Thanks for the advice.” His smile fell in uncertainty. “Though to be honest, I’m not sure I could take her there by myself. I might get too shy to try anything-”
“I’ll come with you!”
“What?”
“To the ice rink,” she said quickly with a strained smile. “To help you! You know, feel more comfortable!”
“You will? Really? That’s awesome!” His face brightened instantly, already turning and running off to the lockers. “Thanks, Marinette! You’re the best!”
She waved after him, smile plastered on her face until she nodded to herself in determination before marching off to class. It was time to fix her mistake and win back Adrien!
… only problem was figuring out how. Thankfully, her trusty friends were always down for some good scheming.
“Show off in front of Kagami and impress him with your awesome skating moves!” Rose suggested.
Alex snorted. “You do realize this is Marinette we’re talking about, right? She’ll faceplant before even reaching the end of the rink.”
“Then let yourself fall and pretend you’re really hurt,” Rose amended, clasping her hands together. “Then he’ll come to your rescue! It’ll be so romantic~”
“You’ll definitely win his attention like that.” Alya teased.
“But I don’t just want his attention,” Marinette complained. “I want him to like me. And Adrien likes strong, confident girls, not a klutz.”
They blinked. “How do you know?” Juleka asked curiously.
“Uh, because Kagami is strong and confident, right? So that must be what he likes!” She saved quickly with a nervous smile.
“Then we’re definitely doomed,” Alex sighed.
“Now hold on, girls, it’s not over yet!” Alya argued. “We just haven’t found the right idea!”
“Ask someone else out and make him jealous!” Mylene suggested.
“Make him… jealous?” Marinette clarified, suddenly feeling less ecstatic.
“But who could we even ask? “
“What about Nataniel?” Juleka suggested.
“No way, that’d just be mean.”
But as the girls argued and debated, Marinette just sighed, finding herself less and less stoked on the idea. So she slipped away, taking her leave and making her way onto the stern of Juleka’s ship.
“What am I doing, Tikki? I can’t come between them.”
Her little purse popped open, the bright, usually cheerful kwami looking up to her worriedly even in her encouragement. “Why not? You already know he likes Ladybug, not Kagami!”
“But Adrien can’t know I’m Ladybug! And Ladybug can’t date anyone. She’s a superhero! How can I date anyone as a superhero?”
“You could date ‘Cat Noir’, since he’s a superhero.” Tikki suggested slyly. “Remember that night when he set up that picnic for you?”
“Yeah,” she relented with a smile. And then she blinked. “AGH! Adrien set up a picnic for me!! With candles and flowers and aaaaaaaaaaugh I stood him up and made him hate me I’m such an idiot!!”
“Marinette, someone’s coming!” Tikki warned.
She squeaked, jumping up to her feet, and spinning about to face a surprised Luka.
“Marinette?” He asked. “Are you ok?”
“I’m fine!” She assured with a strained smile, “Just... remembering a really embarrassing moment...”
“I getcha,” he smiled, going over to take a seat by her. “Something kinda like this?” He plucked at his guitar, bringing out a quick, yet oddly anxious tune, like it was creating tension by just being. It made Marinette pout and nod. “Whenever I feel like that, I try to think of a memory that makes me feel like this:” This time, the tune slowed, the notes turning more harmonious and into something calmer, yet cheerful. Marinette sat down beside him with interest. Luka really did have a way with music. “I don’t know for sure what it is that made you upset. But you’re an amazing girl, Marinette. You shouldn’t feel embarrassed about anything for long.”
She flushed, eyes going wide at the sincerity, both in his voice and his smile. She smiled a little shyly, squirming under his gaze. Did he really think that about her? As ‘Marinette’?
“Hey, Luka... are you busy tomorrow?”
Once at the ice skating rink, the tension was hardly visible. Except maybe for Adrien. He managed to pull on his ice skates, but by that point his uncertainty got the better of him, and he scoot a few seats over to sit beside his classmate as she tied up her skates. “I’m not sure what I should do at this point. Should I offer to hold her hand?”
"Why not just flirt with her like always?"
“What?” He blurted in a panic.
"I mean everyone alway- flirts, right?!" She stammered, jumping to her feet. "That's what people normally do and so, you should do that, ya know, say nice things, tell her she looks good- whoa!"
The blades threw off her balance, and she leaned too far back and fell prey to gravity. Adrien reached for her in alarm, but Luka was already standing, and caught her from behind. “Careful,” he advised. “Try to be natural. Go with the rhythm.”
He knelt down in front of her, helping her finish tying her skate laces, before offering his hand and helping her up. She looked at his hand, but stole a glance at Adrien out of her peripheral. He seemed stunned, watching their interaction with rapt interest. But nothing more. So, resigned, Marinette took Luka’s hand and let him lead her onto the ice. He was so casual, so confident about it, even Adrien had to admit the guy was so smooth he was almost jealous. He looked over at Kagami, who was tying her own laces, and decided to try to emulate him. He walked over to stand before her, but she had already finished, crossing her legs and looking up to him expectantly.
"Uh," His cheeks heated up, rubbing at the back of his neck nervously. "You, look... good!"
She raised her brows, clearly surprised, but smiled in satisfaction. "And you look like you need some help."
"What?"
She pointed to his feet, and he followed her line of sight to see that in his rush to get advice, he hadn’t finished putting on his skates. Talk about hopeless. What kind of impression was that? But she knelt down in front of him, making quick work of his shoes. He marveled at how unbothered she was by it, and how quickly she took charge. Once finished, she smirked up at him before taking his hand, and leading him onto the ice.
Their time at the ice rink might have been more enjoyable if they weren’t being hounded by the rink owner to try to join skating classes. But regardless, they still managed to enjoy some time together. Marinette, even with her clumsy nature, was able to glide along the ice without incident, thanks to Luka’s careful guidance and support. Kagami, noticing the way Adrien seemed tense and kept stealing glances at the other couple, still took his attention away with her grace, and poise, and skill. And Marinette, seeing the way Kagami showed off, felt herself burn with jealousy. So she could do a couple twirls, big deal. All she’d have to do is turn into Ladybug, and-
Run herself into a wall.
“Marinette!”
And Kagami still cut between the boys to help Marinette up herself, offering her own bit of “advice”.
“The only reason you can’t stay on your feet is because of your hesitation.” She murmured by her ear. “I, never, hesitate,” she assured, releasing her and turning to steal Adrien away again.
At that point, Marinette knew she was right. Even as Luka checked on her, she feigned injury, and made her way off the rink to find some privacy.
“Tikki, this is the worst feeling in the world,” Marinette bemoaned, as her kwami twirled out of her bag. “I know he likes me, but I can’t ever be with him.”
“Why do you keep thinking that, Marinette?”
“Because I can’t date anyone as Ladybug. I’m a superhero, I have to focus on saving Paris! I can’t afford to be distracted, not even by Adrien! And now I can’t even look at him the same way.”
“Why not? He’s the same person he’s always been.”
“I know that, it’s just-”
“Marinette?” There was a knock on the bathroom door, Adrien’s concerned voice coming through even to the stall. “Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I’m fine!” she said quickly.
“You’re supposed to be in love with Ladybug, but now you ditch Kagami to go after Marinette?”
“Me? Going after Marinette?” He was taken aback, before chuckling it off. “No, she’s just a friend!”
But their conversation was cut short, when the whole ice skating rink was suddenly being taken over by ice.
In a cruel sense of irony, the miraculous seemed to have heard her internal desire of grace on the ice. Master Fu’s new additive gave Tikki an ice affinity. When she transformed, Ladybug was warm, and slick, with blades included on her boots and a tiara on her head, making her a true ice princess. She leaped up onto a rooftop, braking without even the tiniest possibility of slipping and falling. Her partner joined her, also having received the power up to his miraculous. She grinned smugly in satisfaction. Perfect. Now she could show off her new skills to-
“Cat Noir?” She asked noticing he hadn’t even said hello to her, let alone flirt with her, “Is something wrong?”
“Nothing, just thinking how I should track and observe him before attacking.”
“Track? No, we need to set a trap for whoever did this,” she argued.
“And what’s wrong with my idea?” He shot back. And curiously, he still had his back to her. “It’s not like you’re right all the time. What, don’t like the cold shoulder?”
She sighed. She should’ve known it wouldn’t be that easy. “Cat Noir, I understand if you’re still upset about before, but right now we really should focus on saving Paris.”
“Well it’s not like we have to do this together,” he argued, already jumping off the roof and taking to the ground. “It’s not like we’re a couple.”
“Adr- Cat Noir!” She called after him. “Don’t get all pouty on me!”
But he didn’t respond back, already gliding down the magically ice covered street to do his tracking. She deflated dejectedly. Great, just great. She had to keep reminding herself that this was still Cat Noir, and he tended to be a sore loser. Adrien was a sore loser…
But she shook her head quickly. Now wasn’t the time, she could feel sorry for herself later. So she tossed out her yoyo to find an anchor and swing off to head down the Seine.
She paused at the bridge, down a ways from the Eiffel tower, and scoped the perimeter. This would be a good spot, but she had to try to find bait to lure out the akumatized citizen. So caught up in her musings, she didn’t notice the eyes on her, or the enemy dashing down the ice toward her. Not until Cat Noir managed to dive in and snatch her out of the way, having been tracking the enemy and following him before he could take her down. He put her back down and held onto her hand, putting them in a mad chase down the ice.
“Thanks, Kitty,” she smiled. And as he winked in his usual assurance, she found a little of the confused anxiety in her lifting. Silly immaturity or not, this was Cat Noir, her partner, and superhero of Paris.
Only after that reassurance, were they finally able to work together again, teaming up to defeat the snubbed ice rink owner and take out the akuma in his skates, reversing his magic and saving all of Paris.
“Pound it!” They celebrated their victory from their spot on the wall, as Philip regained himself far down below them.
Chat Noir saluted her with a wink. “Well you best be off, then. I know where he came from, so I can take him back.”
“Cat Noir, wait,” she protested. Her fingers tapped together in a nervous fidget. “We should probably talk, and-”
“It’s alright Ladybug, you don’t have to say anything.” He smiled at her, and while it wasn’t his usual grin, he at least didn’t appear angry. “I remembered what you said about loving someone else, and I already know how you feel about our secret identities.”
She sighed. “I almost called your name- your real one. If that had happened in battle, I could end up revealing who you are. I didn’t want to risk putting you in danger like that.”
“I understand. You don’t have to feel bad. I shouldn’t have put you in that position.” He stepped forward, leaning in to take a kiss from her cheek.
Under the red of her mask, her blush was hidden, saving both her identity, and her pride. But regardless, when he pulled back, he was grinning slyly at her. “But admit it: weren’t you just a little bit charmed when my mask came off?” He probed.
“What?” She leaned back. “No, of course not! Why would you think that?!”
“Oh c’mon, everyone loves my face.” He boasted, leaning sideways at her and waggling his brows. “No need to be shy~”
“In your dreams, Cat,” She shot back, pushing at his temple to put him back. “Not everyone is clamoring over themselves to get to you. I, on the other hand,” She grinned- a familiar, confident smirk in their interactions. “Am rather flattered knowing the one and only Adrien Agreste is in love with me.”
That did it. His jade eyes went wide, clearly not expecting the turn around. Pink flushed over his face instead, mouth agape from the ambush. She winked at him, hurling her yoyo for an anchor point. “Until next time, Cat Noir~” she sang, before leaping off into the city.
Cat Noir looked after her in a daze. “My name… she said my name!” Some confused groaning from far below him got his attention, reminding him of his duty. “Oh yeah.” And he hopped off the wall to help put the poor citizen back where he belonged.
She just barely made it across the street from the rink, transforming back behind the building and slipping through the back door. Tikki spun out, having a moment before Marinette went to make her appearance from her “hiding place”.
“Wow Marinette, that was really bold of you.”
“Tikki what’ve I done?!” She wailed. “I just saw him acting as Cat Noir and it slipped out without my even realizing! I’m a disaster- a total walking disaster!”
“Maybe being Ladybug makes you feel more confident, the same way it makes Adrien more confident as Cat Noir.”
She groaned, sliding to the floor and burying her face in her hands. “Except now he’s even more in love with Ladybug. How am I ever going to get him to fall for me as ‘Marinette’?” "Cheer up, Marinette," Tikki offered, giving a little pat to her head. "At least now you know he does like you." "Even if he doesn't know it yet," she smiled wistfully. "Who knows? Maybe one day I'll get that same confidence without the mask." "That's the spirit! I know you can do it, Marinette!" She giggled, clasping the tiny kwami to her face in a hug. "Thanks, Tikki!" The kwami giggled as well, hugging her cheek gratefully. Looked like they were back to square one after all. But one thing was for sure: she wasn't giving up on Adrien, not by a long shot.

.... ok so maybe what we all wanted to see didn’t ACTUALLY happen but we got close, right?
Just something I wrote for fun. I've been SO frustrated with all those darn teases the last few episodes I was like "you know what?! I need to have this reveal at least ONCE!" So I wrote out the first scenario I imagined when I saw the Frozer trailer. Then it kinda turned into a writing practice exercise and I went to follow the general storyline of the episode to see how it would effect certain scenes. Except the last part, cuz I just needed to let loose and have some fun with it. How'd I do, guys? Let me know! :D
