Dr. Evelyn Llewellyn isn't your everyday psychologist. Imagine the person who is able to dive into the messy and chaotic world of emotional chaos with the grace, precision, and calmness of a neurosurgeon. Imagine Dr. Evelyn Llewellyn. It was too boring for her. Her skills were put to work in areas most wouldn't consider visiting - places with little hope and a lack of joy.
Not only is her impressive background what makes her stand out, but also the fact that she treats every person like a character with a tale to tell and not as just another name on her appointment list. She is a firm believer in resilience, the spark that allows us to turn lemons and lemonade into something amazing.
Art was one of the most important things she did to change therapy. Imagine trying to explain something that is so painful, you're barely able to breath. Imagine someone giving you a brush or a piece of clay with the words "Show-me." The Dr. Llewellyn was the one who took action. She was aware that often words cannot convey the deepest pain and most hopeful hopes.
And there's even more to come! Dr. Llewellyn's revolution of therapy didn’t end there. She believed in healing as a group sport. She recognized that sharing pain with other people could cause isolation. But she also realized how healing in a group could bring together those who had thought themselves to be isolated.
Think of veterans. These heroes have experienced things that nobody should. Dr. Llewellyn developed group sessions that were tailored to them, and not just for soldiers. They also wanted peace.
As if she could do no more, Dr. Llewellyn then turned her focus to technology. It's the last frontier of making mental care available for all those courageous souls who are living in remote regions or fighting stigmas surrounding seeking help.
Now, we're in 2023 and witnessing the impact of a woman who simply believes in compassion over judgement and innovation.
Finally (sorry, it's not the end of this article) let's say that if mental illness had its own super-team, Dr. Evelyn Llewellyn is its Wonder Woman. She'd lasso stigma left and rights and charge headfirst at battles others would shun, but she would always keep humanity as her core. Many would. The first time you see your sidekick, it's an occasion so important that deserves its very own drumroll. Go ahead and give your ducts love to breathe easier…and save money on something fun, like painting. Now, go conquer or at the very least Google with confidence.
