Whilst I adore the idea that in the maybe 24 total hours Anakin was present on the Lars' farm, he fixed literally everything mechanical there because of *angst*, I think an infinitely funnier idea is that Padme did their taxes. She doesn't like sitting around doing nothing any more than Anakin, and she was there for several extra hours, there's no way she didn't ask for something to do, and I think that thing should be their taxes.
Cliegg and Owen weren't actually expecting to actually be able to use a coreworlder's work, but as it turns out, Padme totally helped them commit tax fraud even better than they already were without even being asked.
Bonus points if she was doing it at the same time Anakin was out committing bloody murder.

*SLAMS DOOR OPEN*
AND ANOTHER THING ABOUT CLIEGG LARS AND SHMI
"Oh the power dynamic, ha, yeah, bad writing George, he PURCHASES her, frees her, and then MARRIES her, oh, that's a healthy dynamic"
Okay I need you all to think about this:
If he buys a woman who has nothing (because she's a SLAVE on the CRIME PLANET)
And then says "You're free"
and follows that up with "ON THE CRIME PLANET"
What happens next?
What happens if you just turn a woman loose with nothing on the CRIME PLANET?
Yeah. Yeah.
"Well he could get her a ride off-planet" with what, the money he used to free her? To send her where? To his friends off-world? Why is he still living on the CRIME PLANET (that has nothing but SAND, where he FARMS WATER) if he has friends on other planets and the money to travel offworld?
Does Cliegg Lars have a spaceship parked out back?
Can he take her a few lightyears to Naboo? Set her loose on Theed? I mean...the fact that Naboo and Tatooine are in the same sector does raise some questions, but also, again, Naboo is the Peace Planet and Tatooine is the CRIME PLANET.
The point is, he said "Hey, you're free. Hey, come live with me. Move in with me. NOW YOU HAVE EQUAL CLAIM TO MY PROPERTY THANKS TO THIS LEGALLY BINDING DOCUMENT, do whatever you want."
Man was rickety and old and in a Space Wheelchair. There was no Unfair Power Dynamic. This dude was not Taking Advantage of Shmi. He said "Girl you deserve better, come live on a farm in the desert. I mean...you still deserve better, but this is the best I can do, hope it's enough."

My very own personal fanfic of Shmi after TPM is that she had already known Cliegg Lars for years and there was already friendship and romantic feelings between them, but they had never been able to afford the price Watto wanted for both her and Anakin (nor did they have any other way to rescue them) (I am using "they" here because Shmi was part of this plotting). Anakin, being very young, was mostly unaware of this. After TPM, Watto was poorer from losing at gambling and (mysteriously, how very unlucky for him,) ran into even more problems, and Anakin was gone, and Shmi had that pot of money from Qui-Gon selling Anakin's pod for him stashed away, and all these things conspired so that it was not very long at all before Cliegg could buy her in order to free her.

Frontier Marriage
Read on AO3
Marriages, especially out on the farms, are for survival. Skills, land, money: all are in mind. Complementary skill sets are the goal. All on Tatooine have most skills, certainly, but… covering bases is important. Shmi is too old to marry anyone looking to have children. She can cook, and mend, and fix a droid or engine. She’s wiry, under her dresses, but not particularly built, with her limited food resources. She can read and write, and she’s good enough with numbers for Watto to let her prep the books before he looks them over. She is the kind of woman taken in as someone’s aunt, or grandmother. Or a second wife.
This is not the ONLY reading of the Shmi/Cliegg relationship, but it's one I think has mileage.
I've been thinking about and meaning to write something like this for a while, just a little one-shot about how I view the Cliegg/Shmi marriage. I drew on some elements of the canons (the tobal lens, the Owen thing I remember hearing about at some point), but while there's a power to Shmi and Cliegg falling in love BEFORE she was freed, I think there's something to be explored with the pragmatism of early frontier marriages, where it was all about joining resources, etc.
I do believe that, whether it was a pragmatic choice or a romantic one, they did truly love each other by the end.

At nineteen, Padmé Naberrie has her life under control. As padawan to Qui-Gon Jinn, she gets to travel the galaxy helping people. As lineage sister to Obi-Wan Kenobi, she has an inbuilt best friend and someone to help stop Qui-Gon causing mass disturbance. When the three of them depart on a mission to Kamino, she doesn't expect anything out of the ordinary.
Then, of course, her world collapses with the discovery of the clone army. As the galaxy dissolves into war, she finds an unlikely ally in Anakin Skywalker, a revolutionary from Tatooine who helped to lead his planet to freedom from the Hutts. Now trying to help a clone revolution and fight a war, Padmé makes up her mind to find the Sith who started all this.
Inevitably, this will either destroy the Republic or destroy her. She hasn't quite worked that out yet.
chapter four: It was irrevocable: some part of Padmé had died on Naboo and she would never be able to heal that gaping hole inside of her.

Haven't seen any AU where Shmi lives and gets all the nice things she deserves while still being married to Cliegg.
What's my man done to be dismissed like that?

I guess it's an irony. If the boy was here when the jackboot came down, the Empire would still have a Death Star… But if the family wasn't killed, maybe he'd never have left.

I’ve noticed something about Star Wars.
Again.
So…
Luke Skywalker probably never knew that his own grandmother (Shmi) was buried at the very same homestead he lived on.
Tumblr media
Here’s everyone at Shmi’s funeral. Anakin, Padme, Owen, Beru and Cliegg Lars.
Along with C3P0
And two headstones.
Right outside their little igloo house. Filmed outside the Amazigh village of Matmata in Tunisia.
Look:
Tumblr media
See. That’s her headstone in Attack of the Clones.
Which was later removed in ROTS (apparently they attracted attention so Owen Lars had them taken down).
Tumblr media
See.
They’re gone 19 years later. No trace of them.
Okay sure the original film was shot first but putting that aside I just thought it was interesting.

Idk if is just me, but I always keep thinking of an Au!Shmi marries with Cliegg sooner and they raise Owen and Anakin together
I just wanted them to be a normal family so bad, like ani as the creative and playful little brother and Owen as the responsible but play along with ani mess older brother, shmi as a gentle and caring mother that is finally free to express her feelings and Cliegg the funny one with jokes that actually are not funny at all… this just warm my heart🥹
Owen ask Beru out, after anakin and cliegg making fun of him for his crush. She is welcomed with a big hug from everyone, especially shmi( the poor woman was in a house full of men😅)
Ps: in this universe the jedi are not important, at least not for the Skywalker-Lars family

Ok so for your WIPs, I've heard about just of them lol but the time travel Bail one is one I haven't heard that much about so maybe you could elaborate on that one?
Ah yes I figured you'd want to hear about that one. I started writing that one when I was bored on a train ride and it's evolving little by little. Basically it's all in the title: "Bail Organa Time Travels and saves the Galaxy". Though the first bit I have written is him interacting with the Lars Family, I am not sure where that snippet will fit into the whole story but that's something future me can figure out :D
Here's what I have written so far:
26 BBY, Tatooine
[1700 Planetary Time, 54° Standard, Sunny]
Shmi Skywalker Lars
When Owen and her return from the market there is a stranger at the farm talking to Cliegg. He is too well dressed to be another farmer, his accent too posh to be from the Outer Rim and the way he handles himself in this conversation screams wealth and to some degree influence. His eyes are kind though and he meets the approaching Shmi and Owen with just as much respect as if they were his equals. Which in his eyes they must be.
He calls Shmi by her last name - Madame Skywalker - even though rarely anyone does around here, she is always either Cliegg's wife or simply Shmi. Surnames are only used during business or as a token of respect. Shmi isn't sure which of the two it is for this man but he is well mannered and smiles kindly at her.
Owen scowls but Cliegg is quick to scold him.
"He's a guest, son," her husband says sternly then he turns to look at the stranger again. "For the night at least," he adds after a moment. "Everything else we will sort out tomorrow. I need to think about everything you just told me."
"Of course," the man says and puts a hand above his chest. "I thank you for offering me a bed for the night."
"Wouldn't want you to die alone in the desert. The Tuskens are becoming bolder and bolder. They won't hold back when they spot a wealthy man in the wild."
The man's face goes through a couple of complicated expressions. Shmi can tell that he has an opinion about what her husband just said and that he believes it to be for the best not to tell them.
He helps her and Owen prepare the table for dinner and her stepson, once he is over his initial weariness of the man, starts asking questions - a lot of them, like he always does when they have visitors from off planet, a rare circumstance but it does happen from time to time. He has become more tactful over the last three years but his curiosity remains. The stranger answers readily and with the same patient smile on his face that has been on his lips the entire time.
Shmi pays just as much attention to him as Owen does and when Cliegg joins them after he has taken care of the moisture vaporators for the night, does as well.
"Bail," he says, is his name and he is from the core world of Alderaan. Shmi has never heard of it before but she can only assume that it is beautiful. His own story he insists isn't all that interesting but Cliegg disagrees with him almost immediately.
"You haven't told me much, sir, but what you have said was a tale that nobody could make up. Don't downplay your role in it. Out here we folks are honest about our achievements."
Bail shakes his head but he doesn't look like he is disagreeing with Cliegg. What, by the Stars, had they been talking about? Bail sees her confused look and nods.
"I am still astonished that you believe me… and haven't shot me down with that rifle of yours."
Cliegg makes a clicking noise with his mouth. "Shmi wouldn't appreciate a dead body in her entrance way."
"Ah, yes of course," Bail replies.
"Why didn't you chase him out then, dad?" Owen asks, with the briskness of a sixteen year old. His father gives him a look and shrugs. Shmi knows why. He is too kind to do such a thing. Her husband, despite the experiences he has made in life, is a kind and good natured man.
"He doesn't look like the kinda guy who jokes about these sorts of things. Also…"
"It still hardly is my story."
"You played a role in it, so it is yours, simple as that."
Bail gives in and nods, still looking unconvinced. He must be some kind of diplomat, maybe even one of those fancy politicians the Republic has. She cannot help but think of Padmé, the young girl from Naboo who had been so shocked when she had learned that slavery still existed in the galaxy. She wonders how she is doing now. There's no chance Bail would know, right? Alderaan isn't Naboo. They probably never met.
Shmi shakes her head and choses this moment to put the food on the table. It isn't much, nor is it very fresh but it is food and it will drive off the hunger. Bail eats it without complaining. So does Cliegg. Owen on the other hand looks like he'd rather have anything but stew again for the third time this week.
She cannot blame him but harvest has been bad this season and they have to save as much money as possible.
"I'm sure you're used to much more tasty food," Owen says to Bail. The man gives him a curious look.
"Yes and no, Owen. In the last few years I couldn't always guarantee to get good tasting food. All official events I was forced to attend served the same bland tasting dishes. Growing up however… it was all a different story back then."
He sounds like he is talking about something that happened decades ago and yet he doesn't look much older than his late twenties - though looks aren't always a clear indicator of someone's age, maybe it's just that Alderaani just look young even when they get older? It is a big galaxy after all everything is possible. Still… Shmi doesn't quite believe that. She just feels that his words are off somehow.
"Well if that's the case I don't wanna become a politician. It sounds awful."
Shmi turns her head to berate her stepson about his impoliteness but before she can even open her mouth Bail starts laughing. It's an honest laugh, straight from his heart and it has no malice or bad will in it.
"I think, Owen, that people like you who speak their minds are exactly what politics needs," he says a few moments later and smiles politely again. "Especially these days. You might not make yourself a lot of friends but at least you're not clouding people's minds with lies.*
"Do you lie often?" Owen asks.
