everyone hates on tmi for the weird plot but jace will forever be my book boyfriend and clace my otp. it was one of the first “og 2010s books” i read as a kid (think hp, divergent, maze runner, twilight, hunger games, etc) and it has a special place in my heart for that. It’s also the only series Cassie has written more than 3 books for and to me it feels like she put a lot of her heart and soul into them. idk i just like tmi and i feel like it gets hated on too much, like it’s still a good series even if the plot devices she used *cough cough inc3st* were weird

Alec and Clary hating each other's guts in cob is iconic & funny but what makes it so much funnier is how quickly they get over it. by the epilogue they're both like "I feel so bad about all the mean & completely untrue things I said to you and for being really shitty/shoving you against a wall/nearly causing you to die :( im so sorry. anyway, let's never tell Jace any of this k?" and then proceeded to never acknowledge any of it again. by coa it's like it never happened at all. like it doesn't even get a mention in their inner monologues or anything. the one time it does come up is in tftsa due to Simon's incomplete memories & him being under the impression Alec doesn't like Clary. and when he brings it up to Alec his immediate response is this
like I'm obsessed with their dynamic, nobody's doing it like them

The TSC girls Clary, Tessa, Cordelia and Emma. This entire series has such a sentimental place in my heart.

Jace in City of Bones is actually so funny if you think about it. imagine you develop a crush on a girl for the first time in your life and within the week your dad comes back from the dead to personally tell you she's your sister

the lightwood family dynamic is so funny to me because:
- alec is, like, barely above mundane drinking age and running the whole shadowhunter government, which is basically the same age as his divorced, half deceased parents were when they were running around committing hate crimes. he’s married the notorious manic wizard down the street, magnus bane, who’s, like, 400-something and witnessed said parents’ hate crimes, and they’ve adopted an abandoned warlock child who is completely blue and a prickly 5 year old who doesn’t speak a word of english.
- jace was adopted because robert and maryse felt morally obligated to due to them thinking he was the son of robert’s ex-parabatai who was in love with him and didn’t even turn out being his father. he is engaged to clary who he thought was his sister but still wanted to bang, and she is the daughter of the leader of the hate cult robert and maryse were involved with and her older brother (who also wanted to bang her) killed jace’s adopted little brother. jace is parabatai with alec, who he offered to kissed once to prove a point.
- isabelle fights demons in stripper heels and is engaged (married?) to simon who is really just a guy. a guy who was randomly dragged into the their whole family disaster and turned into a vampire then drank her blood then saved her life then drank her brother’s blood because he saved her life, then forgot everything. then she dragged him back into her whole family disaster and they were will-they-won’t-they for forever (even though they were obviously will-they the whole time) and they had sex and he drank out of a shiny cup and became a shadowhunter.
- there was also this one time they were in hell and jace was having sex with clary and isabelle was making out with simon and alec was getting wine drunk by himself, all in same cave
i’m not even going to go into their parents because what the fuck

"TMI is the worst-written TSC series" Okay. Okay, you are objectively correct, but I think we need to appreciate how genuinely fun TMI is. It has a great group of characters, and all of them have distinct personalities and voices. It's fast-paced. The humor is genuine and omnipresent. It manages to be consistently lighthearted on a character/relationship level despite its darker underlying themes and plotlines. This isn't even to touch on the hugely important role that the series played as a pioneer for LGBT representation in modern literature.
TMI isn't good, but it's fun. And that's genuinely what matters. You can't go into it expecting a literary masterpiece, but you can expect a wild ride, time with some great well-developed heroes and heroines, and a witty and engaging tone. Tolerate the weird metaphors and grammatical mistakes. Forgive questionable plotlines. Clary Fairchild and her found family are worth it.
