10. If you wrote a sequel to With Eyes and Hearts Wide Open, what would it be?
Hmmmm... Maybe something about their lives as parents, a possible war with Caleb (including a possible queen kidnapping and a king having to prove his mettle as he physically fights to get to her and deal with his pain in the face of betrayal?), and possibly some steamier looks at their relationship 😜
13. Inspiration for With Eyes and Hearts Wide Open?
Mmkay, this story is actually one of my faves. Everyone has their personal "literary junk food" and mine is The Chronicles of the Necromancer by Gail Z. Martin. The main character and his wife (who were a wonderful "strangers on the run to lovers" story) conceive a child, but her pregnancy is incredibly hard, to the point where he really has to consider what will happen if she dies. At one point, he even mentions that he'll probably have to bring in a woman he doesn't know just so they can conceive an heir.
Courty's brain went "WHAT IF I TOLD THE NEW WOMAN'S STORY???" because I'm always a sucker for a widow(er) falling in love again, especially in the context of royals. So, I wrote it.
For my OCs.
And had nowhere to post it.
After that, lo and behold, I dove into JatP and thought "A CHANCE!!!" and that's how I wound up writing With Eyes and Hearts Wide Open and I regret NOTHING!
16. Favorite thing about With Eyes and Hearts Wide Open?
I loved getting to explore a Luke and Julie who were a) closer to my age, b) who'd been through some life, and c) who were whole people on their own without needing to complete each other. And it was refreshing to get to play around with some more (ahem) mature themes in a context that I'm personally comfortable writing in 😏. But I think my absolute favorite part of the story was the fact that Julie and Luke, while thrown into a marriage, were able to learn to trust each other, heal from their pain together, and learn to fall in love again. I know that's something they do in most fics, but not in that context (as far as I know, I'm the only one who's written a widowed Juke fic).

it sucks that you "grew out of" fanfic and look down on it now cause your fics were amazing. fanfics ARE real writing.
i read fanfic all the time. it is real writing, ive never said that its not.
ive been writing for years. i adore the art of fanfic. i just havent had the inspo, or the time to write myself. ive been going through a lot of life changes, and school is insane.
but i have and will never look down on fanfics. ever.

sounds like you’re not just dealing with a little everyday stress, but you’ve actually got stress.
figure out what the source/sources are, go talk to a therapist, slow down, give your amygdala time to recover, do some nice things that’ll pump some good chemicals throughout your body, and when you can SLEEP, i can not stress how important enough sleep and other “basic needs” are in those situations.

supes late response to the 1989TV post, but it is so so good. I wish the vault tracks had more 2014 style production bc you can def tell they were made post-midnights but i still love them so much!!
