do you like drugs
This is such an oddly phrased question. I have a feeling what you’re asking isn’t about my personal experience of drugs but it’s the answer you’re getting and then I’ll expand a bit.
Like most things I have had good and bad experiences with drugs, much like I have had good and bad experiences with alcohol.
I don’t use either very much these days (although ‘not very much’ is relative only to me) but I have enjoyed both greatly in the past. I’ve also used both at times that probably weren’t helpful to me, but hindsight is a glorious thing.
My worst experiences of either had nothing to do with my choice in using them and everything to do with predatory men. And that’s a form of harm that came from men via drugs.
So when I say that I’m not interested in just talking about harm from drugs in the context of addiction, that’s part of the reason. Another part is that criminalisation/lack of regulation makes it hard to make a truly informed choice and can lead to harmful experiences.
I think it’s really important to talk about this holistically and practically. Drugs are part of our world, all sorts of people will use them in all sorts of ways but there are also certain life experiences that make addiction more likely - so how do we minimise the harm from that?
I guarantee it’s not through shame and it’s not through this narrow lens of addiction talk that shows little interest or understanding of reality but that fandom so often loves.
What I think is most important is about more than ‘omg Louis smokes so much weed/drinks so much alcohol’ and it is creating a world in which consumption is safer to access and in which conversations around consumption are not just about addiction or ever about ‘bad’/‘unhealthy’ choices. Ensuring safe access to drugs, and some method of testing or regulating their contents is a good start in reducing harm through bad batches, understanding doses and makes it easier to access healthcare if something goes wrong.
All of that is also part of how we make addiction services more accessible to people. By taking shame out of the way we look at and talk about drug use we can break the cycle shame/compulsion/shame/compulsion, it is not easy to achieve but it is achievable especially if society isn’t shoving that shame down on you as an individual.

It's funny how nicotine addiction works, first just smell the cigarettes when your coworkers are smoking beside you, then you just take a hint of how it is, after that you start socially smoking at the bar with your friends once the wine has gotten into your head, you buy your first package of cigarettes and it last 3 weeks, your second one it's done in a week, and all of the sudden you're about to grab one from the package you bought the night before and there's only 3 left

SUNDAY IS FOR PREACHING
SUNDAY IS FOR PREACHING, #vices #smoking #addiction
A sermon on smoking and other pastimes by Rich Paschall I was thinking about this recently because some people I knew passed. A few years ago I wrote about Betty, a friend and co-author of a play we worked on together (Liberation). Emphysema robbed her of her breath. She was a chain smoker throughout the years I knew her. Not long ago I received a text message from a cousin to advise me that the…

the morning (afternoon?) after this messy stunt. Floyd got off too easy in my opinion, but it's hard for Les to stay mad at him when he makes those sad pouting faces... 🤦
If you think Floyd's being really dumb at the start of this comic before getting a reality check, you have to take into account that he's madly lovesick and was feeling very smug atm; he's also a 15yo pop troll who thinks making out with someone means they're together now; and he assumed Les's sour mood was entirely the result of a nasty hangover...
P.S. They forgot about Hed lol (I almost forgot about him too, drew him just before posting lmao)

[Image description: A photo of a sleeping puppy, which has been positioned to appear as though it is holding a bottle of wine and smoking a cigarette. The dog has been drawn over in MS Paint to look like Harry Du Bois from Disco Elysium. The title of the photo reads: "Dog addicted to alcohol and cigarettes!" End ID.]
