Art from El Fili campaign. Maria Clara became consumed by the Bakunawa and forced the PCs to rewrite the timeline so she could be happier, but in the end got double-crossed and written out of reality herself. She now inhabits a higher plane of fiction, a personal purgatory of sorts.

Okie so hot take: I don’t think Melinoë is as good of a protagonist as Zagreus. And here’s why.
It all comes down to motivation. Why did Zag go through the events of Hades 1? Because he was living in an abusive and volatile household and had to find some way to make things better for not just himself but his house. Otherwise he surely would have lost his mind having to deal with the abuse he got (remember at the beginning of the game basically only Nyx and Achilles were helping him. Everyone else is either neutral towards him or outright hostile). He needed answers, he needed to find out who and what he was by trying to find Persephone. And in the end he succeeded and was able to create a better life for himself and his house. Hell, even his relationship with his dad improved.
Now let’s look at Mel (yes this criticism is only addressing Early Access Hades 2). Why is she going through the events of Hades 2? Because… she’s been groomed since basically birth to kill Chronos. She doesn’t really have any other motivation than because it is what is expected of her essentially. She even says during her confrontation with Chronos, AFTER HE THREATENS TO HURT HER FAMILY, what do I care I barely know them (yeah sure she could just be bluffing to Chronos but that is still a very chilling thing to say when supposedly all of this is to save them and it makes her reunion with Hades lowkey ring hollow or weak). In another scene she even says the same thing to Hecate and says Hecate is more her mother than anyone else. Heck even in the flashback scene with young Mel and Hecate (which was very cute I’ll admit) she says she would want her mother to come back so Hecate isn’t sad. This makes all her motivations to kill Chronos and save the Underworld seem very… disconnected from the main component of the game? Being saving the house of hades and her family??
Like it’s expected of her and she was raised at birth to basically be prepared for this but she doesn’t have any personal reasons for doing any of this than just not letting Hecate and the others in the Crossroads down. Hell when she comes back from killing Chronos for the first time it honestly feels like Hecate is more interested and invested in what happened than Mel herself.
It makes her a really weird protagonist especially when comparing to her brother and how effective he was as a protagonist. Think about it, with Zag we got really in depth and character revealing moments where as the player we understand why he is doing all of this and so it is easy to go along for the ride because we like Zag and want to help him. Mel says she cares a lot about what is going on and wants revenge, but it all feels surface level (and which is understandable she doesn’t know these people, all she can say is “the titan took my family” when let’s be real she sees the people in the crossroads as more of her family). It honestly just seems like because she is expected to kill Chronos since she could think, she feels she has to do all this. It feels weird how she is disconnected from the core point of the game being to save the house of hades when Zag was so integral to that same core point in the first game.
I dunno, just my thoughts, I’m curious to see what everyone else thinks.
Edit: just fyi cause I feel with the comments I’ve been getting from my posts, I like hades 2 I am excited especially for the official release. I recognize my criticism/analysis could be wrong or out of date since the game isn’t finished yet. These are just my initial thoughts.

Alright. She's ready. So I'm ready to show you...
This is the Mew that popped into my head yesterday. Jovial, or more commonly Jovie, is a lovable airheaded Mew who "volunteers" at a Pokemon Center. (She gets num-nums for her efforts, but she does genuinely love what she does!)
Obviously her backstory isn't fleshed out much at all, but I love her and really want to bring her into the story. ^v^
And for funsies, some character development arts! Phlurrii once again helped me out with fine tuning~
Those are the very first drawings; I changed "Jovi" to "Jovie" becasue they have different meanings.
They go in order from here.

(dichloro approaches lune slowly, though still keeping outside the circle.) you seem really protective of this kid.. what makes you care about him so much? especially since you seem so hostile to everyone else.
"I don't care about the kid okay..." He said quite bluntly. "I just..." Silas seemed suddenly lost for words, his ears drooped further as he searched for an explanation.
"It's just..."
"When Lune says something... he's just being honest with me. Sure it might really hurt in the moment... but at least I know he's not judging me without a good fuckin' reason."
"But everyone else? Everyone else always assumes the worst of me. What else am I supposed to do...? I already proved that they should, there ain't no going back now. "
He sighed before turning away. "I- ...Look it doesn't matter alright? Right now I have other shit I should be doing."
"I'm tired of it and his life matters more right now... that kids familiar can only do so much. If he was a human... he would have healed by now. But... that's my fault too. Just like everything around this fuckin' place." He huffed, he didn't have time to linger on this any longer. "I gotta go."
As it did a moment ago Silas' illusion began to appear, this time with an intention. His familiar features were quick to shift into something more basic and feral.
And just as it appeared the illusion flashed a grin.
"Do me a favour alright~? Don't touch Lune."
-> Seems Silas has wandered off to somewhere unknown...

It made the glowy Mewtwo sad to see him cry. He really didn't know how to help, but he knew that he wanted to- especially as one lab pokemon to another..... so he took off his cloak, draping it over Walt's shoulders in an attempt to be comforting without outright hugging him.
The cloak given by strange Mewtwo made Walt warmer. But does he feel better after that? Nope, however he makes a smile towards Ultraviolet.

Lief @Shadow: "You seemed kinda nervous when talking to that Purrloin, eh? Is there something more to that, or should I mind my business?" He had his usual nosy smile as he stood a ways from the Eevee, looking her in the eyes.
"I.. Er... What?" With the initial confusion "I only got upset when evolution got brought up, but that's no big deal- I just have things I don't like to bring up like, that's all!" Hopefully that didn't sound weird. It doesn't, it shouldn't. Everyone has those kinds of things.
The Purrloin grimaced in response to Lief's implication, then sighed. Besides the asinine assumption, he wasn't a fan of this strnager bothering an already tense tightrope.
"Oh, Shadow?"
Still, there was his mission to address. It might be best to encourage the stranger to return home, just in case.
"Would it be best to go ahead and get some berries? There's a basket nearby I can let you borrow."
"Uh... Sure...."
Though, Aeri couldn't help but give some 'random' advice to Lief, before he helped.
"Is everything okay??"
"Ah.. All's well. Apologies." It would be the best to retain composure, now would it?

was thinking… the avatar skill is granted to writers to represent how they make characters, and even put a little bit of themselves into each one. in orv, it was mainly abused for convenient cloning, but it also ended up with two of the same person in different areas for more of a mindfuck. i do think that, perhaps, this is the way it is in orv because hsy and kimcom are depicting themselves as characters, so of course the avatars their selves in the story make would reflect themself
but another notable thing about orv is that the characters take on a life of their own, y’know? you may put in a little bit of yourself into writing them, but they aren’t and could never be you in actuality. even in a biography the distinction can be made that what is depicted in text will have been distorted from flawed human memory, let alone in a fantasy setting where you write not an ‘origin’ (inspired by past events, grounded in reality), but a ‘lie’ or a ‘wish’ (something that you yourself may not necessarily have gone through personally, fantastical or idealistic elements).
yjh is the most prominent example of this, perhaps. he’s a character that hsy’s writing and kdj’s reading had brought to life, but he’s a separate entity from them entirely, with a life of his own. hsy put a bit of herself into him (in begging kdj not to give up, among other things) which kdj then took to heart, but all three of them have so many differences regardless.
taking that into account, we could look to the side story and see how singnshong is now choosing to depict 49% kdj as a separate entity who struggled with identity - because he was a ‘character’ that kdj made, to live out the happy ending in his place (the happy ending he wanted but wasn’t brave enough to take). … but the characters you write into existence aren’t completely you. and the readers (kimcom, here) won’t necessarily see things the same way you do.
perhaps this played a role in yjh’s conversation with 49? they are both characters come to life, with their purpose and sense of identity put into question. an entity that their makers had poured so much love into for others, whose purpose was rejected as kdj’s guilt made him reject yjh (hsy’s love) and kimcom’s desperation made them reject 49 (kdj’s love). full of so much love to give, but unable to give it.
perhaps that is also part of the reason why kdj is invested in lhh’s story now too - he wants to see lhh get the story he deserves to have. to be able to love the people he deserves to keep in his life. because this ‘character’, too, has come to life in ways past the boundaries of simple words on a screen, and as a story (a person) he deserves to be heard.
everyone borrows parts of each other,,
how i think of it, part of why 49 started breaking down was because he started not seeing himself as 'kim dokja' anymore
han sooyoung's avatars all still saw themselves as 'han sooyoung', and everyone still acknowledged her as hsy. but for 49.. they might not have said it (bar hsy), but everyone was looking for the 'real' kdj and 49 was struggling.
and this is just a thought, but maybe the reason lee hakhyun can't use avatar is because he doesn't have a solid grasp on his own identity?
we don't actually know what his abilities are because he can't see his own attribute window, just the effects (language interpretation and another effect that lets him connect clues together..?) he probably doesn't have the 'writer' attribute in the same way that kdj didn't actually have the 'reader' attribute
...your comment about yjh's conversation with kdj made me realize that one of the lines,
'someone once told me this'... i went looking for the line. and.
yjh told 49 the words that lee sookyung told him.
and if kim dokja is watching lee hakhyun's story to fulfill 49's wish,, oughh the side story lets everyone have the stories they deserve. even the outer gods. especially the outer gods.

The deity boredly tossed the hoop a few more times before finally losing interest and giving a loud audible groan. This was getting a bit too repetitive for their taste.
"They're nothing to dooo!!" They whined.
Their partner however didn't seem surprised by the Hoopa's boredom... Either that or they were too transfixed with paperwork to really care. He just replied nonchalantly.
"Something entertaining!" They grumbled as they shifted their hoop back and forth between their hands.
The Hoopa's expression of excitement quickly melted into an annoyed scowl. They never wanted to have any fun, how boring!
They cringed, "Ughhh! No way!"
Irritated, they gave a dramatic huff before lying on the strange floating cube. "It doesn't! I just don't feel like bugging Del!" They said quite loudly. The Meowstic just gave a hum in return, "Are you sure of that? If I'm not mistaken, it sounds like you're still avoiding them, I doubt they're still mad about the little incident."
He paused, shifting a paper over to his 'read' pile while he gave the Hoopa a concerned glance. "Why are you lying on that? Didn't Aludra tell you those things weren't toys? I doubt they're designed to support you're body weight."
The Hoopa just gave a shrug, "If she didn't want me playing with them she shouldn't made them so entertaining! If anything, It's her fault for putting them in here!"
