About a year or so ago, I Chicory’d me and my bf’s sonas. EXTREMELY cute game btw. It’s not very often I’ll recommend co-op play, especially in a game that can be done single-player. But I am not kidding when I say that playing this game with a trusted friend drastically enhances your experience with it. Check it out with a trusted friend sometime! I guarantee you’ll have a blast!

Chicory is on the mind again. Every once in a while I'll get nostalgic over that game I'm so fond of, as I still consider it as a small yet crucial piece of a puzzle I struggled a lot with. Can't help but scribble stuff for it (and also can't help but insert some of my characters in there, haha!)
So once again I say out loud, Chicory is very good
It also gave me the opportunity to revise some of the picnicsonas I've done of my own characters some time ago, as well as make some new ones as well! This is also sorta two-faced as there's one more thing I wanted to do, and this was a warmup of sorts to get into that style for a moment. So we shall see soon hopefully...

Hey! The steam sale is going on now for another day as I make this post and I’ve gotten a few games from it and liked quite a bit of them and wanted to give them a shoutout! So here’s a list of some games that aren’t $50+ AAA games
Links to games on steam are in the title:
ABZU: This game is an experience. It's not very long, but it does take some time to get used to the underwater controls. If you've played journey it's very similar and very pretty
Bastion: Supergiant's first game and it's wonderful! You are in a post-apocalyptic world playing as 'the kid' trying to find other people in the ruins. The soundtrack (like every other Supergiant game) really sticks with you too.
Cat Cafe Manager: A cute cafe game where you build a cafe, serve the customers, and get to know a few of the locals! You can also help stray cats find a new home. It caught my attention more than I thought when I played it.
Celeste: This game is a wonderful platformer. Difficult, but will help you if you need it. You play as Madeline who is determined to climb Mt Celeste no matter what, and face herself in the process.
Chicory A Colorful Tale: This game is so unique and charming. You play as a little dog who is the janitor to the Wielder of a magical brush that brings color to the world. One day the color vanishes without a trace it you become the Wielder and journey to try and find the source of the problem.
Cozy Grove: A beautiful calming game where you play as a spirit scout who is sent to the island of Cozy Grove to ease the spirits bound to it by helping them out in their day to day life. This game is meant to be played in short bursts daily and will only give you a certain amount to do at a time, but there is no penalty for missing a day.
Darkest Dungeon: Note: this game is difficult. A turn based RPG with a distinct style. This is a game where your choices will matter and you must lead a band of adventurers into dungeons for treasure. Every choice will have a consequence and random events will happen when you least expect them. Prepare as much as you can.
Dorfromantik: A lovely little puzzle game where you have a select few hexagonal tiles and try to make them last as long as you can by fulfilling little quests included with some that give you more tiles to place.
Graveyard Keeper: A game where you are transported to a strange place and have to upkeep the local graveyard while trying to find a way home. The game can be a little vague in explanation so a guide/wiki to help out is recommended.
A Hat In Time: This game turned out to be one of my favorite games I played. It's a 3D platformer where you play as Hat Kid who lost all her hourglasses to fuel her ship to go home! You must travel to different places and do different quests and beat bosses to win back hourglasses. If difficulty is what you are looking for the seal the deal DLC is fantastic(both DLCs are really good.)
Inscryption: Also one of my favorite games now. A rogue-like(map changes every time you die) card game where you build your deck on the go. Loads of cards and abilities plus..and interesting mystery surrounding the cabin you are trapped in. This card game is more than it seems. If you find yourself loving the card gauntlet, Kaycee's mod is worth checking out it has even more cards and challenges.
Little Witch In The Woods: Cute little game where you play as a witch who misses her train and ends up in a mysterious place where she finds an abandoned witches house and is itching to make some potions. Collect ingredients, help out the locals, and explore the forest.
Megaquarium: A pretty straightforward game where you build aquariums! Easy to get the hang of while still being pretty extensive in what you can do.
Mini Metro /Mini Motorways: These two games are little puzzle games where you build pathways for trains/cars and see how long your infrastructure can last through daily commutes! Very relaxing and tricky at the same time.
Monster Sanctuary: A monster catching metroidvania(maze-like map where you find items to open up more areas.) You start as an aspiring monster keeper who is finally facing the trails of the monster sanctuary. There are over 100 monsters to fight and collect and many beautiful areas to explore!
Outer Wilds: A game where the less you know going into it the better. You play as a new astronaut setting out on their first flight mission. There are plenty of mysteries to solve.. and plenty of ways to die.
Parkasaurus: Another park builder game but this one is dedicated to dinosaurs!
Poly Bridge: This game asks you what sort of bridge does it take for this vehicle from point A to point B, but you only have a limited amount of materials.
Pyre: Supergiant's third game that I feel slips under the radar. Its a visual novel that has breaks with some fast paced underground sports. Very gorgeous and the characters are lovely. Definitely worth the play if you are interested.
Slime Rancher: This game you may have heard of but I love it so much so I want to give it a mention. It's very pretty and there are multiple areas to explore and plenty of slimes to collect and even combine. (part 1/2)

In honor of me having so much video game music downloaded on my phone that I ran out of storage and had to buy a new phone. My favorite track from each video game OST I have!
Bastion: Brusher Patrol (Such a bizarre clash of styles, I can't help but love this one. Shout-out to the part that sounds like Darren quietly scatting in the background.) (Also special shout-out to Build That Wall, probably my favorite vocal track in any Supergiant game)
Celeste: Scattered and Lost (I am such a normie for this choice but face it this track absolutely slaps.)
Chicory: A Colorful Tale: Song of the Wielders (I love how this song has actual lyrics but I still prefer to sing along with the Simlish version that Pizza and Chicory sing.)
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood: Illusion (First of all I love how every character in this game has their own theme I go feral for that kind of thing. Kurielle is probably one of the characters who stood out to me the least but by god is her theme gorgeous. I love the vocals and how a later track includes a sneaky reprise.)
Cuphead: Dramatic Fanatic (Tap dancing :D)
There are literally thirty of these so I'm doing a read more
Death's Door: The Grey Crow (A heartbreaking boss fight scored with the appropriate amount of anguish)
Deltarune: Cyber Battle (This melody is so underrated and ya know what, so are the characters associated with it. Sweet Cap'n Cakes forever.)
Elsinore: Donne, The Boat Boy (I love this song because it's associated with Lady Guildenstern, aka the best character in gaming full stop, but it's also just a fun little sea shanty that I think they made up for this game so I love that. Also has a lyrical version.)
Evergate: Police (Okay so the level with the police drones is one of the more frustrating ones in the game but the music is hauntingly beautiful so I give it a pass)
Going Under: trust fall (Marv is easily one of the most hateable video game antagonists of all time but damn if his boss theme doesn't slap)
Hades: Last Words (The rolling and the tolling of the bells bells bells bells bells)
Harmony: The Fall of Reverie: Reverie Ascendant (Lena Raine does these medley tracks so good man)
Hollow Knight: Dung Defender (By far the catchiest song about poop on my entire phone)
Ikenfell: Rose Thorns (So the insanely long final boss fight against Oxley overshadowed Aeldra's boss fight in my memory for a long time, but when I watched another playthrough and bought the OST I realized "Oh her theme bops SO much harder than his ever could")
Inscryption: A Final Duel (A hardcore remix of The Scrybe of Magicks, aka one of the only melodic tracks on the album and therefore the one every YouTube video about Inscryption uses in the background. I prefer the epic version just a bit more because honestly that Magnificus setpiece is the best moment in the game)
Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass: Fun, Sunny Day (A fun and silly track as the title suggests, elevated even more by the context in which it plays in the game. The area music alternates between this and the more somber Rainy Sunday to illustrate that Jimmy mother is bipolar [very cute and silly game])
Omori: Bready Steady Go (Like the absolute dipshit I am I actually completely missed the optional Orange Oasis when I played this game myself. Every Let's Player finds it somehow, though, and when they fight the Unbread Twins I invariably stand up and dance along to the boss music.)
One Step from Eden: Perpetual Motion (It's just a good-ass track y'all)
Ori and the Blind Forest: Conundrum (In a soundtrack of sweeping orchestral pieces, this more subdued version of theme that only plays during one small puzzle section might seem a weird choice. But I've always really liked it)
Ori and the Will of the Wisps: Kwolok's Malaise (Kwolok's leitmotif is perfect for a giant frog and the boss remix takes it to it's logical conclusion)
Paradise Killer: Go! Go! Style (This track makes me feel like I'm having a sugar rush. The whole OST does actually but this one especially)
Pyre: Path to Glory (It's just got a really unique vibe to it. I like it)
Scarlet Hollow: Avery (Chill and really beautiful. Avery themself is kind of a sleeper character at this point but I can't wait for Brandon to remix their theme when they get assimilated into a giant plant monster)
Slay the Princess: The Princess (Okay full disclosure I've only played this game once so I don't have the full context for a lot of the tracks on this OST. Maybe hearing them alongside their respective princesses will make me like them more, but for now the title theme is too iconic to beat.)
Sounds of Sympathy (the OST for the game anthology Essays on Empathy): Zen and the Art of Transhumanism (In the Essays on Empathy documentary, fingerspit talked about how she prefers writing obscenely long tracks so the loop doesn't get annoying. Unfortunately for her my favorite track on this album is only three minutes long. It's a lovely little bop.)
Spiritfarer: Mind Palace (I played Spiritfarer before any of the character updates were released, so I didn't get Daria's mind palace sequences in my game. And I mean, they look very platforming-heavy so I'm okay with that, but god this is a gorgeous piece.)
Transistor: Impossible (I think this is Royce Bracket's boss theme? I don't know when any of the tracks on this OST specifically play in game. Regardless of all that this one gets me pumped.)
Unavowed: One Man's Power (I couldn't find a video of this one, but it's gentle saxophone solo that plays when Logan Brown is introduced. I think it fits is character really well and just sounds really nice)
Undertale: Death by Glamour (Best song for best character, enough said)
Wandersong: Moonscape (God knows this game gave me a lot of great options to pick from, but I settled on this one because it's so uplifting.)

Round 1 Side B: 2D animation style video games my beloveds
Kabbu (beetle; Bug Fables) vs. Chicory (hare; Chicory a Colorful Tale)
Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA AND POLL UNDER THE CUT!
Kabbu:
"This bug is sooo blorbo, y'all have no idea. This man canonically has done tax evasion. He has pep talks that can quite literally revive you from the dead. He is obsessed with an in-universe power rangers knockoff and has a whole side quest involving him and a plushie of the character who's just like him (frfr). Somewhat related, he is just. Trying so hard. To be a hero. Altruistic, almost to a fault, he rushes to try and help however he can. While he might not be the MOST in depth character ever, his character and the arc he goes through, just gives me so many emotions/feelings and it hits different. My precious babygirl sunshine who can do nothing wrong ever, and if he ever commits murder, it will be justified."
Chicory:

as I once said, I want to make a crossover between "a short hike" and "chicory: a colorful tale"
and this is Claire (main character from a short hike) in color-tale style
these two games are quite similar in atmosphere, I think it will be fun to combine them uwu

Thank you for the tag @cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut (and the idea!), @reyesstrand @theghostofashton @lemonlyman-dotcom @heartstringsduet @catanisspicy @alrightbuckaroo ❤️
The rules: While Ao3 is temporarily down, share a little something from a WIP to keep us going through the downtime! Preferably something we haven’t shared before, but whatever works for you!
Please have some Owen and TK time from a WIP (that in my head is called Flashback Fic), which expands on my fic Chasers.
Tumblr media
Owen leads TK into the kitchen and sits him at the breakfast bar. "I'm going to make you a spring smoothie, and then you're going to tell me what's up. Is it about your mom? Or did you and Carlos have a fight?"
"I wish," TK says.
"What does that mean?"
"A fight is simple. This is way more complicated." TK shakes his head. A fight would also mean make up sex later, so there are certain pros. "And what is a spring smoothie?"
"Spinach, apples, almond milk, basil, chicory, arugula, fenugreek, and bananas of course."
"Of course."
"Don't knock it until you try it." Owen smiles. "And talk to me."
TK watches his father practically dance around the kitchen, gathering ingredients – and it rocks him, because no matter what’s going on in his life, Owen is always there to make smoothies and talk. He thinks of himself coming out at fourteen. Gay bashed behind the bleachers at fifteen. An addict at seventeen. At twenty-six, relapsing after a failed marriage proposal. Overdosing on his apartment floor. But within all of it, for his whole life, love knelt by his side in the form of his mom and dad.
"Last night, I was in a bad way."
“After that call?”
“Yeah.”
“I thought you were. Why didn’t you talk to me?”
“I don’t know. But Carlos called Cooper, and Cooper came over, and we talked it out. But when Carlos came home, I told him about, um–” Deep breaths. Deep, steady. “I admitted I almost relapsed the day after mom died.”
Owen stills, hugging two green, shiny apples in his hands like they’re precious. “Did he react badly.”
“No. I kind of freaked out. Kind of cried all over him.”
Owen smiles, sets the apples down and picks up a paring knife. “I’m familiar with your style.”
“Yeah. Well. At the risk of crying all over you and probably Buttercup right now, I keep thinking about you.”
"Me?" Owen asks, flattered but confused.
"And mom. And everything I put you through."
Owen looks at him seriously. Then he opens a drawer to retrieve a second small paring knife that matches one he already holds. He places it onto a thick wooden chopping board next to the two green apples and pushes it across the breakfast bar towards TK. "Wash your hands and help me make this," Owen says.
TK gets up, doing what he's asked without question, smiling to himself because he's a paramedic and doesn't need to be told to wash his hands before food prep, but they've gone back in time to his childhood, when Owen would tell him important things about life while engaging him in something practical. When TK was twelve, Owen came over to TK's new apartment with Gwyn on Canal Street and helped strip orange floral wallpaper from TK's room. While working away at the tired old flowers, which an elderly lady had once loved, Owen gave TK the sex talk. It was hetero in focus, but even then it was like Owen was nudging TK to tell him to stop if he wanted, if it didn't apply to him, or if he needed to discuss it in a different way.
TK shunted his wallpaper scraper up and down to remove a patch with particularly firm adhesive, taking a little plaster away with it.
"Anyway, if there's anything you need to know, or just want to know – if you're ever curious or upset or you have feelings for someone, I'll always want to talk to you about it. You don't need to be worried or shy."
"Okay," TK said, "Can I have some lemonade now?"
When TK cores the first apple, his hands begin to shake. He has to put the knife down. "Dad."
"TK."
"I'm sorry. I'm just so sorry."
Owen looks at his tearful son understandingly. He takes the apple from him, finishes slicing it, and waits for TK to carry on.
I'm late to this so I'm just going to tag @ladytessa74 because I was going to read your new fic tonight :( Otherwise this is an open tag to anyone who wants to do it - please genuinely take it as a tag and tag me back if you post!

Okay, now I'll do a proper art dump and hope I don't forget anything. One day I'll learn to be more active. Here's some art from something my friends and I do where one of them will play a game and I'll watch, and I'll either do art or some memes about the game. We named the main character "Cold Pizza" and we loved Pickle so much. Play Chicory: A Colorful Tale. Do it. It's so good.
And, then, Dredge. Also incredible game. Under the cut for spoilers and for body horror/blood. We seriously loved this game, the art style is amazing, the plot, etc. All incredible.

What do you think would be Louis's favourite kinds of coffee and tea to drink, if he could drink them?
Damn I love this question and I wish I had a better answer— I don’t really drink coffee or tea so idk how specific I can be 😩
Even as a vampire, I’ve headcanoned that Louis is a coffee snob, and I don’t think that would change if he was able to actually consume it! I think he’d enjoy earthier flavors, maybe even some spice! I think, growing up in the Louisiana colonies, Louis drank his fair share of coffee as a mortal. The coffee place near my office actually has this special blend coffee that’s “New Orleans Style” and the beans are roasted with chicory and saffron, so maybe he'd enjoy something like that. I don't think he'd like anything too sweet, and he'd hate all the artificial stuff we put in coffee these days, so honestly yeah I think if Louis were to drink anything, he'd just have it straight black like an absolute maniac.
As for tea, I also see him drinking something strong and earthy. I don't see him as an herbal tea guy— more of a black tea guy. Again, I'm not a tea drinker so idk if there are any other specifics beyond that, but I will say as a vampire, I think he would actually more enjoy cuddling up to a cup of something slightly fruitier like a hibiscus tea. Even though the deeper, earthier scents are grounding, he's always enticed by those tropical notes.
(On a totally different note, I'm so curious now as to how caffeine would affect him LOL like he's so stoic and composed all the time, I wonder if the caffeine would increase his focus and efficiency or just drive him up the fucking wall)
