Stellaria media, or chickweed, is often considered a nuisance or just something to throw to the chickens when found outside of its native habitat (Eurasia).

WELL I’m here to tell you that you are missing out on this actually delicious plant. It’s one of my favorite spring greens to eat raw. I pile it on top of sandwiches and use it in salads. It tastes like oak leaf lettuce with a dash of sweetness similar to corn.

Mourning a dear friend (verse)

My dear friend A passed away.

We are close in age and met in our early 20s.

A and his friends were eating at a certain natural food restaurant.

I heard someone say, ``Trihalomethane (*1) ...''

Since that was my specialty, I called out to him from behind.

That's the encounter.

He is an acupuncturist, and his girlfriend who was also present

After that, I started working at a botanical garden. The strongest couple.

He is someone who cannot fit into one profession.

Most of the work he has been involved with

Now he can do more than a professional job.

He called me a ``genius,'' but he was a ``super genius.''

If I were to compare him to an animal, you could say he was a ``capable four-legged beast, a bear.''

There were a lot of things going on, and the happy times outweighed the sad ones.

But I said goodbye to him twice.

I thought plants, especially wildflowers, were precious, but

He had a strong air of disdain for wildflowers.

"I'm not as versatile as you think.

If I were to be reborn, I would like to become a chickweed.”

I wrote a letter to him.

A few years later, I contacted him and we resumed our friendship.

However, I wrote my book ``Eating Wildflowers - Nourishment (JIMI)!!''

When I tried to write it, I used the comfrey (*2) item as a sample.

When I sent it to them and asked for their opinions,

“Comfrey is a poisonous plant, people who irresponsibly published it and ate it

Will you be held responsible if they get poisoned? "and.

(Even wild plants with the same poison will not addict you unless you overeat them.)

That's what I thought. Listening to Mr. A's words,

"That's enough," I said and hung up.

After that, I stopped contacting him.

If someone says, "It's too young, Morishita," that's all that matters.

I thought, ``At the time of Chickweed,'' I realized that nothing of A had changed.

I was disappointed.

So I stopped dating. Even so, he still gave me New Year's cards.

Mr. A has left this world.

"Thank you for your hard work, Mr. A. Let's meet again in another world."

畏友を悼む（韻文）

私の畏友・A君が亡くなった。

お互い年齢は近く２０代初めに知り合った。

A君たちが某自然食レストランで食事中、

「トリハロメタン（＊１）が・・」と話すのを耳にした。

それは私の専門だったので、背後から声を掛けた。

それが出合い。

彼は鍼灸師の卵で、同席していた彼の恋人も

その後某植物園で働くようになった。最強のカップル。

彼はでも１つの職業に収まらない人で

関わったほとんどの仕事で

プロ以上の仕事が出来るようになった。

彼は私を「天才」と呼んだが彼こそ「超天才」だった。

彼を動物に喩えると、「能ある四脚獣＝熊」と言えた。

いろいろあった、楽しい時が悲しい時より多かったか。

でも私は２回、彼に別れを告げた。

私は植物、中でも野草を尊いと思っていたが、

彼には野草を蔑む空気が濃厚だった。

「僕は、君が思うほど万能ではない、

生まれ変わるならハコベになりたい」

と彼への手紙に書いた。

それから数年、私のほうから連絡し、再び交遊関係が復活した。

ところが、私が拙著『野草を食べる・滋味（JIMI）!!』

書こうとした時、サンプルとしてコンフリー（＊２）の項目を

送って、意見を聞いたところ、

「コンフリーは毒草だ、無責任に本にして、食べた人が

毒に当たったら、責任は取れるのか？」と。

（同じ毒を持っている野草でも、過食しなければ当たらない）

と私は思ったのだ。そのA君の言葉を聞いて、

「もういいよ」と電話を切った。

以後、こちらからは連絡しなくなった。

「青いね、森下さん」と言われればそれだけのことなのだが。

私は「ハコベの時」と、A君はなにも変っていないことに

気付いたのだ。失望したのだ。

それで付き合うのを止めた。それでも年賀状をくれていた

A君はこの世を去った。

「A君、お疲れさま。どこかの世界でまた会おう。」

Do you have a favorite real world plant?

So I really like chickweed, it's a wildflower and one of the first ones I learned to ID when I got into urban nature.

It's got these lovely delicate flowers and ummm idk how to talk about it properly but the leaves grow in twos on either end of the stem and then the next two leaves are a 90 degree rotation of those!? Although it's only native to Eurasia, and it's invasive everywhere else :((

I also love Rowan trees!! They have clusters of little white flowers that give way to red berries that you can make into jelly and other stuff but don't eat them raw!!!!

Traditonally on the British isles they were believed (and still are!!) to ward off evil/witchcraft and it's considered bad luck to cut one down

Pansy and chickweed (poetry)

chickweed prevails.

in my charge

The city recommends roadside flowerbeds.

I am in charge of them.

water on dry days

Remove weeds when they grow

taking care of them.

The pansy is blooming well

other corporations

They plant pansies

waning day by day.

Chickweed is infested and they don't pull it out.

Chickweed is from pansies

Deprives of water, fertilizer and light.

plant management,

observant and loving

I feel sorry for the plants if I don't grow them well.

パンジーとハコベ（詩）

市は道端での花壇を推奨している

私は管理を任されている

乾燥した日には水をやり

雑草が生えたら抜いて

大切に面倒を見ている

そのパンジーは元気に咲いている

ほかの法人も

パンジーを植えているが

日毎に衰えていく。

ハコベがはびこり、抜かないからだ。

ハコベはパンジーから

水分、肥料、光を奪う。

植物の管理は、

よく観察し、愛情をもって

育てなくては、植物がかわいそうだ。
