Oh I'm having thoughts about post-canon chengsu au
where qin su lives and her reputation is ruined and where Jiang Cheng is broken, somehow once more at his lowest point of his life again.
Questioning whether his success at bringing back Yunmeng Jiang was the countless sleepless nights and hard work he put in, or the unknown gift of Wei Wuxian's core.
Both feeling as though they have so little left but both barely holding it together to try and help Jin Ling. Who they love. Who they want to succeed because he wants to prove everyone wrong, that the Jin can be a sect that is worth something.
I imagine their coming together would be a slow burn. Both healing from their wounds, trying to find their place with the new knowledge that has broken them down. But, as they rebuild they don't even realise they're doing it together. Evenings spent with Jin Ling, evenings away from him planning and plotting against those who would over throw him.
And maybe, once the dust settles they're friends. Jiang Cheng can recognise the hurt in Qin Su's eyes as they walk the halls, see how the memories haunt her and he invites her to Lotus Pier. Where the lotus's are blooming and Qin Su for the first time in years feels like she can breath again. Where the disciples look at their sect leader with respect and that makes something warm grown in Qin Su's chest.
She's given a beautiful room that backs onto the lakes, and the longer she spends in Lotus Pier the harder it feels knowing she'll have to leave. It should have been obvious really, but it feels so different to how it had been with Jin Guangyao. It's a quiet moment on a pier, watching Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling swimming in the piers when it hits her. She is in love with him, with Jiang Cheng.
I could honestly go on forever about the gentle, healing way they both fall in love.

Chengsu #18???? 💕 - @yiling-who
ahhhhh oh my goodness hello lovely!!! i've missed seeing u around! (my fault entirely i havent posted on this blog in TOO LONG)
18: please, just for one night, will you lie down next to me?
Jiang Cheng says it with his eyes closed. With the corners of his mouth forced down, with his throat, his jaw, his whole body tense to breaking point.
As if he thinks she would refuse. (As if he thinks she could ever say yes.)
He doesn't mean it. (He does.) He doesn't, because he can't. Because they both know exactly what this is, and exactly what it will mean to go back to their lives tomorrow.
The problem is that Jiang Cheng is like an open book.
Thinks he's hiding himself oh-so-well, but with one touch of kindness, one hint of someone loving those that he does, and the veneer of anger shatters. There is so much fury in his chest and snaking down his arm that no one would brush him, even distant and feather-light.
Qin Su hasn't ever really considered herself a kind person. Nor is she soft. She is poised, deliberate, built for a life of duty and made to be the partner of a great leader. Good at what she does, her hands are strong for holding her child and for playing with her boisterous nephew; her smile is edged, guarded but fawning for her husband's sake; her heart is untouched, as yet, but by the children that she cares for. (But by another.)
What Qin Su is, is a liar. A denier. With a mask of her own making that she takes off for only her children.
That shatters, just as Jiang Cheng's anger.
It's twilight, in the pavilion on the edge of Lotus Pier. Underneath the roof is a collection of cushions, blankets, set there for stargazing, for river watching, for relaxing.
Neither she nor Jiang Cheng is good at that.
Qin Su stands at the railing, overlooking the water. Drifts her hand down to brush across the lotus leaves, imagining tenderness brushing elsewhere. She listens to Jiang Cheng breaths, shaking and heavy, over the sound of the water gently lapping at the wooden props.
He's not reclining, though he had alluded to it. He sits cross-legged, as if to meditate, but his forehead is far too creased for that to be the case.
She hasn't shown him kindness, not in a way that matters. And he hasn't touched her. (Not in a way that matters.)
"They will be wondering -" she starts, all the while wanting him. to stop her. In the end, she stops herself. The words simply cut out in her throat.
Silence passes, the rustling of leaves, lapping of water. Humming of insects and birds and the late evening air.
It takes minutes. Qin Su hasn't moved, still waiting to be told not to. "I know you can't," it comes out an angry whisper, Jiang Cheng's features tensed yet more. "I know I shouldn't want-"
He catches his own words. (Qin Su catches herself)
"No," she agrees. "Nor should I."
This side of Lotus Pier is deserted. Hidden away by mazes of walkways, and overgrown foliage. There are six paces between them, a turned back, and a pair of closed eyes. Not impossible obstacles to navigate, the physical ones. Nor the immediate ones, being as they are so hidden. No one would know. (They would know.)
No one would know.
Five paces, no backs turned, but all eyes closed.
Four, and intake of breath. Qin Su’s eyes downcast, but seeing.
Three, and Jiang Cheng’s hands uncurl from their tension. Open up spaces between his fingers, but does nothing with them.
Two, and their exhales are a synchronised sigh of anticipation.
One, she reaches out, and her fingers brush his cheek. His expression soften, and he leans against her hand.
He does not open his eyes, but perhaps that is for the best.

Qin Su had always favored gold: the glow of warmth it brought to her cheeks, the blaze of sunlight caught and tossed between gilded rooftops. It was a friendly metal, soft and yielding, and kind to the purse as well; led merchants to be generous with wares, and lips their tight-held secrets. It served her, and she looked well in it.
She wondered that Jiang-zongzhu, Jiang Cheng, did not share this affinity. He chose more often silver, in his ornamentation, or even bronze, though he did wear gold thread upon occasion. I am not Jin, he had spat, when she had asked, and then looked at once horrified at his own rudeness and determined not to take it back. Despite– because?-- Qin Su had been charmed.
Teeth would dimple a pure good forging, so the ball she drew from between his swollen lips had been crafted from bamboo wood, but the wires that held it in place were golden. Cloth-of-gold covered his eyes, wrapped firm and lush around his wrists above his head. "Who are you?" She asked, straddling his waist: the light from the lamps across them, her shadow covering him up, gold where she placed it and took it away. She pushed her knuckles into the panting-wide corner of his mouth.
"Yours," he said, and she smiled.

Qin Su stared up at the imposing gates of Lotus Pier and trembled. Night had fallen long ago, and a thin crescent moon offered only a thin, watery light against the deep shadows that enveloped her. The chorus of frogs and running water that surrounded her only served to make her more ill at ease, strange to her city-bred ears.
She raised her fist to knock on the gate, but paused, hand held in midair.
Foreboding clutched at her heart and smothered her breath as every rumor she’d ever heard about Sect Leader Jiang churned in her mind. The man who took a sect left in ashes and singlehandedly returned it to a bastion of power. The man whose anger was legendary, who wielded lightning like a wrathful god. The man who had annihilated even the fearsome Yiling Laozu, never caring it was his own shidi he was killing.
The man who made a sport of hunting demonic cultivators and torturing them to death.
Everyone said the same thing: Offend whoever you like, but don’t offend Sect Leader Jiang. That’s just begging for your own death.
The sky flashed overhead with lightning, but instead of thunder following on its heels, a scream tore through the night.
Qin Su's fist came down on the wooden gate, knocking of its own accord.
“Who goes there? What is your business here?”
“I…” Qin Su swallowed, her voice sticking in her throat. “I need to see Sect Leader Jiang.”
A moment of silence, and then the gate creaked open a few inches, and a Jiang cultivator appeared in the gap. “Who are you? What business could you have with Zongzhu at this late hour?”
“This one is Qin Su, heir of the Laoling Qin. I’m here for Mo Xuanyu.” Her voice shook, but she managed to get the words out.
The cultivator’s brow rose. “Mo Xuanyu?” She looked back over her shoulder at something Qin Su couldn’t see. The sky flashed again; another scream split the night.
“Please,” Qin Su added, trying to put more strength into her words than she felt. “He doesn’t deserve to die.”
The cultivator gave her a long look before speaking again. “Wait a moment.”
The gates closed.
At the moment of reprieve, Qin Su gasped in a breath, unaware she had been holding it. The disciple was going to get Jiang-zongzhu. She would have to speak to him. Contradict him.
Offend him.
Heart rabbiting in her chest, she considered turning around and fleeing before getting herself in any deeper. She was terrified to her bones of facing Sect Leader Jiang.
But even as she took a step backwards, ready to bolt, it occurred to her that the only thing she feared more than Sect Leader Jiang was her fiancé.
She held her ground.
A few minutes later, the Jiang disciple reappeared at the gate. “Follow me, please.”
Qin Su gave a jerky nod and took a deep breath before passing through the forbidding gates of Lotus Pier.

We do just need a whole comedy version of MDZS.
Mianmian's "husband" is just Wen Qing in a mustache.
A lot of people faking their death to get out of awkward/bad situations.
Qin Su fakes her death to escape her husband and only Jiang Cheng is in on the plan except they are both terrible actors but everyone is too polite to say anything.
Jin Guangyao keeps setting up elaborate schemes to kill Nie Mingjue but Nie Mingjue keeps surviving them in very cartoonish, deus ex machina ways. Nie Huaisang finally catches on and paints Nie Mingjue to look like a fierce corpse after one particularly close call in order to give Jin Guangyao a final scare at Guanyin Temple.
Jin Guangyao stabs Wen Ruohan in a way that absolutely wouldn't kill him so Wen Ruohan thinks it's just a silly thing and pretends to die very dramatically. Half-dead Nie Mingjue is like "....." while Jin Guangyao thinks he honestly suceeded and starts celebrating. Wen Ruohan lies there quietly because he isn't sure what to make of this.
Wen Ruohan just kind of chilling in the back with a coffee and sunglasses in almost every scene but no one realizes its him.
Jiang Yanli faking her injury and death to get Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian to bond over her. She goes on an extended vacation with Jin Zixuan afterwards.
Except her plan kind of backfires though when Wei Wuxian fakes his own death at the First Burial Siege to get out of Jiang Cheng yelling at him.
The Wen Remnants just put on purple robes and say they are Yunmeng Jiang cultivators when the siege reaches the top of the Burial Mounds and everyone just believes them.
Wen Ruohan and Wei Wuxian sitting in the back drinking coffee with their sunglasses on while everything unfolds.
Jin Guangyao actually getting killed at Guanyin Temple but no one believes him at first because people don't die in this story.

Let's give you some for your man Jiang Cheng uh CHENGYAO?? Chengqing. Cheng. Lan. Imagine (song lan)
Ask game
Ah, my man! Let me preface this by saying that what follows is largely about CQL!Jiang Cheng.
Ship: CHENGYAO
Ship it? Not… really? It's amusing but I don't really spend time considering it seriously
1) Why don't you ship it? In thinking through this, a few things, I guess. I think it's because there's a single point that gives these characters any sort of deeper connection than just being work colleagues who see each other at conferences occasionally: coparenting Jin Ling. Which is substantial! I think they could have funny and potent divorcee energy, which might be funnier if they never were in a relationship. Or it could be nice if they got along really well, actually -- until JGY's shadow activities come to light, JC explodes, and nobody has a good time. I also just feel more strongly about Jiang Cheng (and other characters in this ask) than I do about Jin Guangyao, which makes it harder to get invested in the ship.... I also think the draw of 3zun permutations seems a little more obvious for JGY. Still, it's not a hard no!
2) What would have made you like it? Again, it's not that I dislike it, more the of compelling cases I've seen made for them. (I know they're out there; I haven't spent much time looking.) So seeing them stuck in more scenarios together, in canon or in fic, probably. Exploring more layers of connection besides just Jin Ling. I do not have the additional mental energy to do all the imagining myself lol
3) Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? Like I said, I think there could be some fun and interesting dynamics! JGY's amicable, smooth approach to social situations could be a really nice counter to JC's temper. Both of them are younger brothers who are very aware of their shortcomings in their fathers' eyes (one of them dealing with that considerably more and more harshly than the other).
---
Ship: CHENGQING
Ship it? I do…
1) What made you ship it? Again, CQL-verse -- but they really tried to make it something, and it landed, for me. Jiang Cheng's little looks of admiration and fondness at Gusu summer camp…. They both carried around that silly comb for a silly amount of time, and it meant something to them, and they could have been something if they weren't in the roles they were in the time they were.
2) What are your favorite things about the ship? They end up on different sides of a war, but they have so much in common. The profound love and dedication to their brothers and their clans. Having to be aware of how others perceive them and their families at all times. Both clearly driven and talented at what they do. And it's the things that make them similar and drawn to each other that ultimately keep them apart. Neither one will abandon their clans, as much as they want to keep the other person safe, and the world they're living in forces them to choose one or the other. :/ I also love a strong woman who could keep Jiang Cheng and his temper in check, whom he adores. What can I say
3) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Maybe less of an unpopular opinion and more a critique of the ship itself, but yeah, it'd have been nice for JC to show more gratitude to her and Wen Ning. I get why he couldn't DO more to help them, but like. Say hi and thanks while you're visiting Burial Mounds, maybe. Show her beloved brother a little more respect.
---
Ship: CHENGLAN (? songcheng??)
Ship it? LOL NO I SUPPOSE NOT
1) Why don't you ship it? They... live in different worlds with different priorities and people who are important to them! In CQL, Song Lan is a cool role model to bright-eyed teen JC, and to older JC, he's a reminder of more simplistic days that now seem sour; in MDZS, Song Lan is just some talented kid to him? I think a little teen hero crush on SL from JC might be the most interesting and cutest of these, but… Song Lan is not a man who gets into a relationship unless he's really serious about it, to me. It wouldn't go anywhere. He is also spoken for lol
2) What would have made you like it? Xiao Xingchen not existing, idk
3) Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? There could be some really interesting explorations of both of these guys being on the receiving end of secret nonconsensual organ/core donations from people they love a lot. Also being the (near) sole survivor of having their whole sect/temple wiped out. I don't know, maybe they could get acquainted and develop something post-canon. Who knows

anyway obsessed with the idea of chengsu + casual, smaller gestures of physical contact/affection that just border on becoming conspicuous to everyone else. hands lingering too long when jiang cheng passes a cup of tea to her at banquets. qin su holding onto his arm when he offers it to step off the boat at lotus pier, and walking around that way until they're among larger crowds. jiang cheng replacing a hairpin in qin su's hair when it falls to the ground. it's all they can get away with in these halls with ears and eyes but it's never any less meaningful for it

Oooo share some of your ideas!!!!
Okay so I literally have endless WIPs saved in my notes, but I'll share my main ones here and you can tell me if you wanna know more about them.
Chengsu
Madam Qin goes to Jin Guangyao earlier, before the marriage but after Qin Su is pregnant and tells him that she is his sister. All the shit still goes down and WWX and Jin Ling die and wouldn't you know it, Sect Leader Jiang want his nephew to stay with him and is unwed. Jin Guangyao can work with that.
Canon adjacent AU where Qin Su lives after stabbing herself finding out the truth, and Jin Ling refuses to let his aunt stay in her room. Que Qin Su acting as an advisor, butting heads with Jiang Cheng and eventually falling in love.
Zhancheng
Fem!JC, Fem!NHS, Fem!Xue Yang Spy/Thieves AU. Smutty. Oh my god they will not stop fucking in this and I'm trying to make plot happen. Lan Wangji has been casing Mo Ziyuan for months, slowly gaining thrust to gain access to find if his father has been being a dodgey major (spoiler alert: he has) and Jin Zixuan asks the Jiang's to help rescue his brother whose gone silent. Enter Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji pretending to be a couple, whilst WWX hacks their system... only their invited to a private room and expected to put on a show. This is my largest WIP and it was meant to be a smutty oneshot that has ran away from me, and is fast becoming a series with the ideas I have.
3Zun
Meng Yao's life was simple. He was Nie Mingjue's assistant, he'd helped bring about the downfall of his father and he was certain that he had almost beat Jiang Cheng at being Jin Ling's favourite person. His only problem was he was in love with his boss and her wife. Both happily monogamous and lesbians. This is also part of a wider AU, celebrities meets lawyers, which starts with Jiang Cheng angrily fucking Wen Xu and somehow ends up making a lot of characters happy who deserve it (and Jin Guanshan's ass in prison).
Gen fic
Dage!Yanli AU
Basically a thought train between a friend and I that ran away from us. Basically what would happen if sexes were swapped between JYL and JC. The answer; far less bloodshed and shit getting done.
So yeah... my ideas so far. Lemme know if any interest you!

All Jiang Cheng Ships Are Bad and You Should Feel Bad, a non-comprehensive list:
xicheng? Trying to upstage wx by taking the #1 eligible bachelor for your ugly #5 blorbo. As IF!
chengxian? Literal incest literally literally. Even more incestuous in MXY's body. That's THREE JL uncles?
zhancheng? Fiction is REAL and you are making your fugly slut into a HOMEWRECKER!!
zhanchengxian? Ummm first of all, everyone knows that fictional mlm only need a mommy (bottom) and daddy (top). What would he even do? 🙄
sangcheng? WWX barely even mentions NHS and JC interacting, and since he was gone for 9 months of the GSL lectures and then dead for 13 years, I think he'd know!!
mingcheng? What, just because he's tall and strong and WWX teases JC about NMJ? Great OTP, idiot. He's not even in the top five eligible bachelor list.
chengyao? Infidelity much?? Or are women not REAL to you?
chengsu? WHY ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH BREAKING UP THEIR MARRIAGE?? Also she has like two lines of dialogue, they have clearly never spoken before. 🙄
3zuncheng? More like JC's healing bussy. Which is NOT healing, FYI.
chengqing? Well Wen Qing is canonically a lesbian who's repulsed by men. Sooo lesbophobic.
chengning? Get your necrophiliac hands OFF my uncomplicated sweet baby Wen Ning!!
chengxuan? Oh my god, do you not even care about Jin Ling!
rencheng? LAN QIREN IS AROACE. PROOF?? IT'S FUNNY. Aphobe much??
zhucheng? Oh my god, WZL is literally at work. I suppose you'd write JC harassing baristas, too?
chaocheng? This is double homewrecking.
zhuicheng? Barf!! In my version of the novel, JC constantly tried to murder every Wen survivor and said he'd eat a-Yuan!!
chengyi? It's sooo curious that you just recreated the chengxian dynamic without the real incest... Stealth chengxian shipper.
zhencheng? Who's Ouyang Zizhen?? Oh, right. AGE GAP!!!
xuecheng? Why would JC care about an orphan street kid with a lot of resentment? That's right... chengxian III: The Return.
OC/JC? Kind of telling that you had to make up a guy to ship with your blorbo... Unlike LWJ, who was specifically designed for WWX by the author, this is just sad.
JC/reader? Love yourself.

"send me a character" shockingly: jiang cheng, jiang wanyin, sandu shengshou, jiang-zongzhu, jin ling's jiujiu
Wow wonder what about me and my blog made you think of him 🤔
Favourite thing about them: I expected him to have a massive meltdown wayyyy earlier than he did, so yay! (Not sure how much of that is down to the fact that I was actively reading posts about the show that contained loads of spoilers and very heavy biases against him before I finished the show for the first time so I was just waiting for him to turn the way people were saying he did. Spoiler! He never did). This man raised a Sect from the brink of near extinction in about 3 months and at the age of what, seventeen?? And then rebuilt it all on his own?? This man is incredible, someone get him a celebratory twister ice-lolly
Least favourite thing about them: He got rid of his slut strand
Favourite line:
From the book (paraphrasing) - "you would certainly be a mark of shame on his entire teaching career"
From cql, it's either - "Who is this famous and talented Cultivator? Could you please introduce him to me?"
Or - "If I remember it right, that talking kid is your son, right? He's so good at talking"
brOTP: Him and Qin Su as friends intrigues me (I also kinda ship it, but that's irrelevant right now) cause she was most likely the only maternal figure in Jin Ling's life and Jiang Cheng is not an idiot, he knows that Jin Ling needs that kind of influence. He's basically the mother of the child whose father got remarried after the divorce and who then strikes up a friendship with the new wife in order to raise the child more efficiently. Co parenting 🫶
OTP: Jiang Cheng x Peace and Happiness (jk it's chengxian, but I also fw chengxuan, chengsu, and chengqing)
nOTP: fucking Xich*ng, got mad beef with Xich*ng
Random headcanon: is incredibly good with numbers, like the opposite of discalculus. Good for tax and trade negotiations. We love a highly efficient, overly capable King 🫶🫶
Unpopular opinion: He has every right to be fucking pissed at Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji
Song I associate with them: The entire album "Laurel Hell" by Mitski. Like the whole thing. Also, "Are You There Sweeheart?" by Kate Nash, and "911" by Lady Gaga
Favourite picture of them: This one makes me have a wee giggle whenever I see it
