Jean and/or Ororo for the bingo cause I'm predictable?
Jean;
I do actually like Jean! It's just that the most recent stuff I've read of her has been the current Duggan run and to be honest it feels less like I'm reading Jean and more like I'm reading the cultural approximation of who Jean is. And it's a shame bc she has a lot of potential but as an actual personality in his work she falls flat and doesn't interest me very much. It's a shame bc I really love how she was depicted in Phoenix Endsong n all that, but it just feels hard to find a balance between super powerful phoenix and jean grey. I think there's too much of a need to make her the most powerful mutant ever , especially under Duggan where that doesn't seem an interesting thing to be. but whenever she does fail it usually feels super male-gazey and uncomfortable? idk tldr i like Jean but her current writing isn't interesting me very much and she's an easy character for writers to reduce to just her powers.
Ororo;
Similarly this is based of recent writing, with the difference being that Ewing is an actually good writer and is handling her VERY well. It's hard to speak abt her bc so many other people have done it much more insightfully than I could but I really like the place she's in now, where Ewing has successfully coupled all of the different identities she's had that writers will often reduce her to one or the other into a character that feels multifaceted and authentic, which is not an easy feat! And I felt for a bit that writers had forgotten or sidelined Storm's edge, and having that back in a way that compliments the Unbeatable Goddess Queen of it all is not an easy feat. Anyway she's just super fucking cool and I love her a lot and I can't wait to see where Ewing brings her next.
send me a character + ill give you my opinions
