I've been reading a lot of Star Wars fic on A03 recently, and I discovered I have certain favorite subgenres. Here are a few of them, along with some fic recommendations in each category.
Subgenre: The Skywalkers Are Eldritch Horrors
-wonderterror, by peradi - Quite possibly my favorite Star Wars fic EVER. Well-written, zinging delightfully between humor and horror, with the best sex scene I've found yet in this fandom (SFW, too). Also: the premise really explains so much about the Skywalkers that canon leaves kinda vague. Brilliant!
-Luke Skywalker, 19, Full Human, by samvelg - Similar premise as the above, but goes in a drastically different direction with emotional heart-to-hearts as Han tries to figure out WTF is so different about Luke and Leia and the implications for the galaxy.
Subgenre: Naive Luke Meets Water and Trees Fluff
Because watching a farmboy from a desert planet discover there's more to life is just... adoreable. And frequently hilarious. (Frequent overlaps with Post-Battle of Yavin Angst.)
-Green, by sparklight - Luke meets trees. Han is amused.
-Blue, by sparklight - Luke meets water, shares a moment of grief with Leia.
-Neither Is It Tears, by NikkiAgent - Luke meets rain, and Leia and Han get to share his joy.
-Rain, by starlingjedi - Luke meets rain. Han and Leia have a moment.
-Puddle Jumping, by justanorthernlight - What the title says.
-Ice Water, by Joysweeper - Luke's awkward and not used to ice water being served at restaurants.
-Snowball's Chance on Hoth, by Sholio - Luke meets snow.
-you can take the boy out of the desert, by Iorata. -More Luke water moments on Yavin.
Subgenre: Post-Battle of Yavin Angst and Other Shenanigans
-Hope is Bright Beautiful Thing, by Imaginary_Bomb - Luke and Leia hurt/comfort

-The Truth About Tatooine, by bethagain - A delightful subversion in which Luke is not as innocent and naive about life as everyone around him automatically assumes.

-Planning Session, by Guardian_of_Hope - The plan to rescue Han is put together... with the help of alcohol.
Subgenre: Han/Leia Hurt/Comfort

-Soothing by MissRachelThalberg - Hurt/Comfort from the aftermath of Jabba's palace. Probably the most realistic post-Jabba fic I've seen thus far.
-Pointy Things, by madame_alexandra - Leia has a phobia of needles after the Death star torture. Han is here to help.
Subgenre: Owen and Beru's Life on Tatooine/Obi-wan in Exile/Young!Luke fics/Luke's Pre-canon Life on Tatooine
I love, love, love this subgenre and all its various permutations to bits. Thank goodness there's a lot of fic for this. Also, Owen/Beru, Beru/Obi-wan and every possible variation of Owen/Beru/Obi-wan were the fic pairings I didn't know I needed, but I do.

Subgenre: Leia and Winter Friendship Fic
Okay, so Winter is a minor character from the EU/Legends canon - Leia's adopted sister/best friend on Alderaan who was off-planet when the Death Star destroyed it. She serves as Leia's aide and occasional decoy in New Republic books. She had long white hair and people frequently mistake her for Leia on account of her posture and bearing. Winter is great and more people should write fics with her in them.
-Astronomical Odds, by anonymous - Leia meets Winter again before the Battle of Endor.
-Still Here, by WinterSky101 - Han passes on a message that Leia is very happy to get.
Subgenre: Luke in Exile (Disney Canon)
I usually try to avoid the Disney canon, but apparently I'm a sucker for good angsty!Luke fics.
-Between Two Thieves, by Walutahanga - In the aftermath of the slaughter at the Jedi school, a character from the EU/Legends canon makes an offer of assistance to Luke. AWESOME ON SO MANY LEVELS.
-Understanding, by ambiguously - Luke is grieving and a mess of self-pity. Obi-wan is having none of it.
-Water, Water Everywhere (The Albatross Remix), by theladyscribe - Luke's past history with water means he responds to Rey's gesture at the end of TFA very differently than in canon.

And Sherlock is just trying not to drown.” I saw this fic recced all over Tumblr for weeks before I finally got over my fear of in-depth post-season-4 fic and read it myself, thus verifying that HOLY WOW YES the hype was deserved. The way the author captures Sherlock’s internal voice in this fic feels SO TRUE–his shattered hubris, his desperate resistance to vulnerability, and the believable way he and John finally get through it all is spot-on. This fic repaired some of the damage that season 4 inflicted on my heart.

“Scorpius Draconis Eltanin Malfoy read the first book in the Alford Ocamy series over Christmas hols when he was eleven. Well, he didn’t so much “read” it as he devoured it.” I CRIED ACTUAL LITERAL TEARS LISTENING TO THIS. Raitala’s podfic performance makes this already intense and moving story feel that much more vivid. 10/10 would be devastated by again.

“What happens when your author writes you wrong? When someone else has the power to decide who you really are? Does it matter?” Sort of AU, shades of RPF, definitely metafiction, and quite satisfying as a rebuke to the writers who made such a hash of season 4.

Connected pieces of emotion and movement.” This podfic of a classic H/W is immersive and excellent, and the download link includes the sequel, Hallowed Be Thy Name, which is also excellent, though significantly darker and more difficult for the characters.

“Dean doesn’t even get halfway through explaining before Bobby starts laughing. Yet the podfic was well-performed, and the slower listening process made the resolution feel even more satisfying.

Ben had never been as easily taken in by Poe's wide smile and flirting as everyone else seemed to be; he had reason to know better than anyone that Poe couldn't be taken seriously. When a momentary lapse in judgment led to Poe in his bed more times than could rightly be considered an accident, Ben was sure it was only because the sex was good. Reveals happened so I can announce I wrote a couple of small treats for Yuletide. :)
Kindling (House of the Dragon, Daemon/Rhaenyra, M, 1285 words)
Though Rhaenyra resented the way it had ended, she still took Daemon's lesson to heart. On her way to have a good time, she unexpectedly runs into Daemon himself, who is supposed to be banished.
Practice Makes Perfect (House of the Dragon, Alicent/Rhaenyra, G, 1346 words)
After the death of her mother, Rhaenyra spends all of her time flying, while Alicent feels both helpless to do something and lonely as she misses her friend.

Rereading ASOIAF and thus writing fic! Maybe I’ll actually finish one of them even... :D Have a snippet.

“Renly will need a queen.”
Margaery takes a bite of lemon cake, chews, and looks calmly at Loras as she swallows. “I wondered if you would ask me or if Father would simply tell me.”
“I would offer to marry him myself, but alas.” Loras shrugs. “I lack the correct parts.”
“I doubt Renly feels the same.” Margaery’s gaze is a bit wicked. “I suppose I could do worse.”
They all could, Loras thinks. This is not the situation he would prefer but as it stands, it is likely as close to ideal as they can come.
Well, perhaps not for Margaery, depending on what she wants most from a marriage. Loras has never been entirely sure. Sometimes his sister feels unknowable, even to him.
“He will be kind to you,” Loras says.
“Oh, I know. He is terribly noble, your Renly.” Margaery touches his hand from across the table. “I wonder that you want to share.”
“You say that as if there is a choice.”
Margaery hums and takes another bite of cake. “I suppose not. I suppose none of us have a choice, not if we are going to make this venture work.”

Woohoo, I wrote a little! \o/ I’ve realized now my lack of writing has more to do with laziness than anything else, lol, I got out of the habit when I didn’t have time over the past few years but now that I do, I just always think, oh let me watch this show/read this fic/etc instead, ha.
Anyway! When I was writing more I used to post snippets on Sundays so let’s do that! I don’t think any of you ship my bi werewolf/gay demigod but whatever.

After a while, Ben says, “You okay?” His voice is low, gentle. The inquiry is caring but not pressing. Jed could brush it off, and Ben would allow it.
“Still not used to the moon,” Jed says, wanting to be honest. “Without changing.”
Ben inches a little closer, enough so that Jed can feel the warmth of his body. “I thought as much.”
The sky is clear, allowing the moon to loom bright. Jed thinks of the pack, so far from him now, hoping they are safe and well. It should be freeing, without the turn, but instead he doesn’t know quite what he feels.
(Lonely. He usually feels a little lonely. He loves Ben but he misses his pack.)
“It’s okay,” Ben says, “to be sad. To miss them. I won’t be offended.”
Jed looks at him, his open gaze, his warm eyes. “I do. Miss them.”
Ben leans against Jed’s shoulder. His fingers dance lightly along Jed’s thigh. “I understand.”

In battle, Loras feels alive. He cuts down man after man and imagines they all have Stannis’ face, Stannis who murdered Renly with treachery and deception, a kinslayer, worst of the worst. Their deaths cannot give Renly back to him but vengeance makes his soul sing.
He is filthy and bloody when he finds Garlan, hugs him, helps him from his armor. King’s Landing need not know that Garlan wore the green armor. Let them think it was truly Renly’s shade.
The Lannisters are grateful. Loras loathes them. He kneels before Joffrey Baratheon and pledges to keep him safe, while everything in him revolts at the idea of giving his sister to this awful child.
He makes himself trust in his family, in Margaery, trust that this will succeed.
Margaery has never disappointed him.

When will this be finished?? IDK but here’s a snippet, maybe it will encourage me to write the stuff that’s left which is the stuff I don’t want to write, lol.

Loras begins to remove his armor and Renly says, “Allow me.”
The weight of his armor is heavy and it is a relief to let each piece go. Renly’s movements are smooth and sure, and Loras is reminded of the years he did this for Renly, as his squire. He misses those days, sometimes. Life had seemed simpler.
The water from the bath is no longer quite steaming but Loras can still feel the heat when he holds his palm above the surface. He looks at Margaery, who shows no indication of leaving, and decides it hardly matters. He strips off the remainder of his clothing and steps in, sighing as the warm water engulfs him to his shoulders when he sits in the tub. It feels wonderful on his sore muscles and aching ribs.
Margaery kneels next to the tub with a sponge and the soap and Loras lets her wash him of blood and sweat and grime. It seems to make her happy, and besides, Loras has long since learned the futility in trying to win against his sister when she has made up her mind. She is like Grandmother in that way. In many ways, really.
“How do your ribs feel?” she asks, dragging the sponge across his chest to his flank, where his bruises are already forming.
Loras winces when she presses too hard and frowns. “How do you think?”
Margaery smirks at him but gentles her hands. She bids him to dunk his head under, wetting his hair, and kneads her fingers against his scalp as she washes his hair, careful near his wound. Loras barely bites back a moan at how good it feels, closing his eyes. He dunks under again to rinse, opening his eyes when he comes up, meeting Renly’s amused gaze.
“I certainly hope your mood will improve now,” he says. “You look relaxed enough.”
“My sister has been very kind to me,” Loras says pointedly.
Renly’s lips are twitching. “She must love you dearly, in all your moods.”
Loras stands, naked and dripping, the water sloshing a bit, and takes the towel from Margaery. “At least someone does.”
Renly laughs, and finally the sound is no longer an irritation to Loras, merely familiar and welcome. He steps forward to press a kiss into Loras’ damp curls, and the three of them ready for the feast together.
