Well, if that wasn't a question and a half. Maru's ears lowered towards his hair as he was compelled to answer honestly and he struggled to work out how to put his thoughts into coherent words.

“You’re like no other voidsent I’ve ever come across,” he replied honestly, tail twitching behind him as he fought over just how much he could say. It was less about being honest and more about pinning down what he really thought.

“I should turn my lance on you - no good comes of voidsent - and yet I find myself unable to. You make it incredibly difficult to dislike you, especially when you offer and give what no other can.

“I’d liken you to a drug. Something that’s decidedly not good for me and yet I can’t get enough of.”

never thought I’d see the day that people would be angrier about a rap bar than they would about actual child predators but here we are lmao.

I think what people are missing when they say "The girls took all the powerful moments from the guys!!" or "Egwene would never have been able to stand up to Ishy for even a moment!" is that...the women are never standing alone when they do their incredible acts.

I think even book readers forget the massive buff being near other ta'veren gives the characters in the books and the power of working in a team.

In the season 1 finale, unlike Rand in the books, Egwene doesn't demolish a whole army of trollocs alone, nor does Nynaeve, nor do any of the other women there. Egwene and Nynaeve don't even cast any of the attack weaves at all. They are linked and Amalisa - a Tower trained individual - uses the collective power of all the women standing there to demolish the battlefield.

in the season 2 finale, they set it up all the way back in episode 1: "Standing alone, a shield only covers part of you, the rest is exposed. But standing together, our shields cover each other and nothing can touch us."

When Egwene stands up to Ishamael, she's not attacking him. She's making a shield. And she's not doing it alone. Mat and Rand are there too, two more powerful ta'veren converging in the Pattern with her, with two more on the way.

It's amazing how quickly book readers forget the plot convenience power of ta'veren Robert Jordan very purposely wrote into the story!

In the final confrontations of both seasons, Rand IS the one who strikes the final blow - he's the one who has to mentally 'defeat' Ishamael. It's Rand's decisions that determine the outcome in both - not Egwene's opinions on the matter, not Nynaeve's. The idea that a random mass attack is a more impactful character moment than overcoming the temptation of Ishy's promise of a perfect world for Rand to live in, that Rand declaring firmly and to Ishy's face that he will never join the shadow never stop fighting for the Light, is just ridiculous.

None of Rand's actually impactful, story-defining moments are given to 'the girls'. The show is not 'pushing Rand down so the women can be made more powerful'. If that's what you think, I'd take a look at what you think is 'powerful' and then take a look at the actual story Robert Jordan wrote and what he had to say about what wins the battle in the end. Was it sheer, raw power that won the conflict or was it strength of self (internally knowing who you are and not caving on your morals for power or influence or glory), community, and compassion?

Yeah, Rand is the character with the most raw power - but that's not why he wins battles and I think his big power moments will mean so much more in the show now that we've seen WHO HE IS and WHY he's using that power.

This isn't to say the explosions of power that Nynaeve and Egwene get aren't meaningful - I think the way the show has altered them to be about community support makes that act so much more powerful than a single character floating above the battlefield and demolishing it all on their own.

So in conclusion, I don't think the criticisms that "Rafe hates men and is giving all Rand's important stuff to the women!!" are accurate in the slightest.

Martin's always a carer, a protector, a helper... Someone who's willing to jump in and do what's needed, someone that watches out and tries to predict what's going to happen so he can help, so he can stop things from going wrong.

I don't need to tell you that this is probably a product of his mother's behaviour; if he kept everything in check then what reason would she have to hate him anymore? It never worked, of course, but that's besides the point.

We see it too in early seasons. Anyone would be eager to impress their boss (particularly if they're in love with them), but Martin's eagerness is always filled with such care, such desperation to please. Just because a trait came from a bad place, does not necessarily mean it is a bad thing.

Along with this, his Web-like desire to keep things under control makes him irreplaceable, a valuable person to have around, because he's entirely unable to conceive that he could be valuable solely as himself. He's so devoted to others that committing himself to the lonely to save them was an obvious choice, which says more on the matter than I ever could.

These traits all shine through particularly visibly when things are out of control, like during Daisy's appearance in season 5. From the beginning of the situation it's clearly not going how it's supposed to, and Martin finds himself alone faced by a monster that he can do nothing about.

Without Martin there, there's a chance that Basira and Jon could've missed Daisy altogether, so as usual he's responsible for holding things in place, but as the situation degrades so does his handle on it. Of course his kindness makes it hard to deal with, makes him flinch at the wrong moment-what's another thing to blame himself for?

But when Daisy attacks Jon, that's when things really fall apart. Seeing his partner at risk and in pain after the comfort of his resistance to injury? Attacked not only by a beast, but one that was a friend at some point, if she ever really was... Perhaps this was what was in front of him the whole time but he never could bring himself to look hard enough.

Jon trying to sacrifice himself, Basira trying to take action, Daisy uncontrollable; all Martin has in him is to yell! To scramble for control and some semblance of survivability. And there's no relief at Jon's release, the mess carries on.

The injury is bad. The type of wound that makes you feel the blood drain from your face, that makes you want to burst into tears, but no, there's no time for that. Feeling emotions is not as important as regaining composure. But God, there's barely enough time to even help Jon, Basira needs guidance too, if she can't go through with this who knows what will happen?

Basira and Jon are living through the experience whilst Martin tries to control it, but some things cannot be controlled and there's simply no use trying to fight against the tide. Nothing could be done to change the outcome, but if Martin doesn't try then of course it's his fault.

Whatever he did, things would end the way they did. You can hear him reaching out though, desperately trying to keep the group tied together; being bound by the archives was awful but at least the group was kept together to some extent.

But here there's nothing he can do. Their paths have parted, things play out the way they always would, and they're sent marching towards their awful fate.

Remember when people would make gifsets and analysis posts and stuff about the meanings behind characters names, and find a interpretation that- regardless of whether or not it was intentional- added like another layer to the characters story??? That shit was amazing I miss it

Writing Family Web Daily: Day 21 (3 WEEKS!!)

[content warning for blood. Still. it's getting cleaned up tho. should be done with it by next part. maybe.]

“It's fine! It's fine!” Leo said, arms up placatingly before Donnie could join in on the panic. And everyone was tense again. Great. “It's just some cuts on his forehead that blead through the night. We're getting it cleaned up now to get a better look.”

“Then who screamed?”

“Raph.”

Donnie glanced between Mikey and Raph before nodding.

“Valid reaction to this,” Donnie said, shifting from foot to foot. “I'm a...going to make tea. In the kitchen. Away from all this.”

“I'll send Raph to you when i can pry Mikey out of his grasp!” Leo called as Donnie disappeared towards the kitchen as quickly as he had appeared.

The trip to the bathroom was otherwise uneventful. Once there, Leo had Raph sit on the closed toilet seat with Mikey sitting in his lap. He then used a damp washcloth and started gently blotting at the dried blood, trying to remove it as carefully as possible, starting with Mikey's eyes. It took a bit before Mikey could open them again, and Leo could move on to actually looking for the wounds.

“Yeah, that's what i thought,” Leo mused, finally uncovering one such injury. If he had to guess, there was at least three more buried there as well. “Hey Mikey, you know how i said you were getting eye sockets?”

“Yeah?”

“Well congratulations are in order, because those eye sockets do, in fact have eyes in them. Eyes that just opened up for the first time,” Leo explained.

“Are you for real?”
