if you're subscribed to the washington post, it's time to cancel your subscription
as if their coverage of the genocide in gaza wasn't bad enough, this is now the kind of vile racist shit they're apparently okay with publishing in their editorial cartoons
Tumblr media
and if you're unfamiliar with the artist, michael ramirez, here are some of the cartoons he's made for other publications:
(putting them under a read more because there are so many of them and they're all disgustingly racist and/or islamophobic)

It went over people’s heads yesterday b/c there’s so much happening but the UK’s anti-boycott bill was not stopped at its Third Reading on the 10th. So now, it need only pass through the House of Lords for the government to hold public bodies ‘accountable’ to it.
Here is a petition to put your name down showing you disagree - evidence of how large protest will be when the Lords accept it. With large enough numbers, it might deter them, but I’m not hopeful. I have more specific action in mind going forward.
(This is a bit more north Irish centric but worth mentioning)
Unless they ever get their shit together, I have abandoned support of Sinn Féin. I strongly encourage other nationalists to do the same. I don’t know how good their work is in the south, but in the north, they’re equal to the DUP to me now. Might as well be the same party, different colours at this point.
Of the recent bills passed through UK parliament regarding occupied Palestine (and now, possibly, the right to abstain from business with human rights abusers of any flag as peaceful protest), Sinn Féin has continued to stick to its symbolic protest, its abstentionism, in spite of increasingly dire circumstances.
Why continue to give them seats at Westminster if they won’t be used even in times of crisis, in times where the politics of UK will determine that of the world?
Idealised inaction does not work in a non-ideal world. Remaining quite literally neutral on genocide over an Irish-centric hypothetical, while tangible harm comes to our fellow victims of occupation, makes you complicit in their murder. Sinn Féin are complicit in their murder.
Our Palestinian cousins deserve better. Our friends all across SWANA, as they now face a repeat of 2000s racism campaigns by western media outlets and politicians, need better.
Besides protesting directly (though kinda pointless because Stormont is still unoccupied and not all of us have ways to Westminister), I think it’s clear SDLP should be voted in where possible as MPs at the next election.
They have been present, and voted against, every recent bill regarding the lack of restraints on Israel. And while they are too neutral on nationalism for me personally, Alliance has consistently seen its deputy leader vote in Westminster against most of its worst bills. I’m grateful for his work.
We have to do more. Boycotting Starbucks and McDonalds and HP and all that isn’t enough. All those occupied and unfree shall never be at peace. There is no point in a united Ireland built by those complicit in violent imperialism. Should that happen, we will have become that of which some lost their lives protesting. It’s only right we take power off of people who won’t prioritise the victims of imperialism when the situation demands it.

#WhitHandala
Palestinian cartoonist Naji Al-Ali parked his car in southwest London, and walked a few meters towards the offices of the Kuwaiti newspaper where he worked. He was shot in the head by a gunman, who walked calmly and vanished.
In an article in Middle East International (10 October 1987), Professor Hisham Sharabi of Georgetown University wrote:
"Who is responsible for the murder of Naji al-Ali? Who is responsible for the murder of tens of Palestinians — we all know who they are — who paid for their freedom of conscience with their lives?
It was our silence and our fear that made us accept without protest the curtailment of free discussion and to allow terrorism to determine the way our differences are settled. History has shown that when liberation movements stifle liberty they become incapable of carrying out the task of liberation; they close in upon themselves and blindly submit to violence."

The #ConnectingGaza campaign supplies E-Sims to people on the ground in Gaza, allowing them to circumvent internet disruption/blackout during the siege and continue connecting with the wider internet. A digital SIM card (called an e-SIMs) works the same as a physical SIM Card, providing data and SMS for a phone number. E-Sims are one of few resources that can be directly accessed without blockage by people on the ground in Gaza.
Artists will be offering art in exchange of the value of the donated e-SIMs. Visit https://cartoonist.coop/esims4gaza to learn more.

[ID: Rear view of Coco standing with her hands behind her back. END ID]
Hello all - it has been a while, I've been unwell/exhausted for some time so I'm behind on sharing images from Shirahama's twitter. I hope to catch up soon.
This one is too important to wait with the ongoing genocide in Gaza, however. If you are not familiar with Handala (created by political cartoonist Naji al-Ali, depicted as the age he was at the time of the Nakba), he is a symbol of Palestine and its people, and their continued defiance of the genocide and imperalism against them. Many artists have been drawing their characters in the same pose as Handala (pictured below) - Shirahama shared her drawing of Coco yesterday (9th Jan) with the following link which calls for other cartoonists in Japan to join.
As many of us are not Japanese artists, I'd like to share with you something you can contribute: every 24 hours you can go to this site and click to generate donations for Palestine from the website sponsors. It takes seconds and requires no registration or personal details to be provided - please make this a part of your daily routine!
Tumblr media
[ID: An image of Handala He is a small boy, facing away from the viewer with his hands held together behind his back. He has bare feet and simple, patched clothes. His hair is depicted as simple, single strokes come from an otherwise hairless head. END ID]

hey gang!! i'm going to be doing an e-sim drive on friday in solidarity with palestine and the strike called by bisan. i'll be live on youtube/twitch at about 5 pm est on the 26th. here is the link to Gaza eSims, which explains the need, where eSims are sent, and what carriers plans can be bought through.
here is an article about the project itself.
donations can either be made through the stream/my kofi for the purpose of purchasing e-sims, or you can send me proof of an e-sim purchase through my email, [email protected]. I'll be drawing live, doing mostly ink, watercolor, and marker drawings in the usual style of my sketchbook videos. complexity will vary based on donation amount.
if you can't donate, feel free to come hang out and spread the word, and check out other campaigns happening! i was really inspired by the cartoonist cooperative's e-sim project, which is absolutely worth checking out as well.
