John Barnett had one of those bosses who seemed to spend most of his waking hours scheming to inflict humiliation upon him. He mocked him in weekly meetings whenever he dared contribute a thought, assigned a fellow manager to spy on him and spread rumors that he did not play nicely with others, and disciplined him for things like “using email to communicate” and pushing for flaws he found on planes to be fixed. “John is very knowledgeable almost to a fault, as it gets in the way at times when issues arise,” the boss wrote in one of his withering performance reviews, downgrading Barnett’s rating from a 40 all the way to a 15 in an assessment that cast the 26-year quality manager, who was known as “Swampy” for his easy Louisiana drawl, as an anal-retentive prick whose pedantry was antagonizing his colleagues. The truth, by contrast, was self-evident to anyone who spent five minutes in his presence: John Barnett, who raced cars in his spare time and seemed “high on life” according to one former colleague, was a “great, fun boss that loved Boeing and was willing to share his knowledge with everyone,” as one of his former quality technicians would later recall. But Swampy was mired in an institution that was in a perpetual state of unlearning all the lessons it had absorbed over a 90-year ascent to the pinnacle of global manufacturing. Like most neoliberal institutions, Boeing had come under the spell of a seductive new theory of “knowledge” that essentially reduced the whole concept to a combination of intellectual property, trade secrets, and data, discarding “thought” and “understanding” and “complex reasoning” possessed by a skilled and experienced workforce as essentially not worth the increased health care costs.
[...]
By now you know what became of Swampy: He was found dead a few weeks ago with a gunshot wound to his right temple, “apparently” self-inflicted, on what was meant to be the third day of a three-day deposition in his whistleblower case against his former employer; his amended complaint, which his lawyer released last week, is the basis for much of this story. It is worth noting here that Swampy’s former co-workers universally refuse to believe that their old colleague killed himself. One former co-worker who was terrified of speaking publicly went out of their way to tell me that they weren’t suicidal. “If I show up dead anytime soon, even if it’s a car accident or something, I’m a safe driver, please be on the lookout for foul play.”

Weyward by Emilia Hart
Published: February 2, 2023 Publisher: HarperCollins
The Author
Emilia Hart is a British-Australian writer. She was born in Sydney and studied English Literature and Law at the University of New South Wales before working as a lawyer in Sydney and London. She is a graduate of Curtis Brown Creative’s Three Month Online Novel Writing Course and was Highly Commended in the 2021 Caledonia Novel Award. Her short fiction has been published in Australia and the UK. Weyward is her debut novel. She lives in London.
˗ˏˋ ´ˎ˗
The Story
In Weyward, the narrative intertwines the lives of three women spanning five centuries. In 2019, Kate seeks solace in Weyward Cottage, escaping from London and her abusive partner. She slowly unravels a mystery hidden within the cottage's history, hinting at secrets from her great aunt's past and the 17th-century witch hunts. In 1619, Altha faces trial for a murder she didn't commit, relying on her unconventional nature magic to defend herself against accusations of witchcraft. Meanwhile, in 1942, Violet feels trapped by societal constraints and the prison of her family's estate, yearning for freedom and the memory of her mother, who was rumored to have gone mad before her death. The only remnants of her mother's existence are a locket marked with a mysterious "W" and the word "weyward" etched into the bedroom's baseboard. This novel masterfully weaves these women's tales together, revealing a compelling narrative of strength across generations and the transformative influence of the natural world.
˗ˏˋ ´ˎ˗
The Vibe: family lineage, nature magic, self discovery, witch trials, feminine strength, betrayal, forging your own path
The Style: historical fiction, magical realism, multiple povs, part epistolary, part narration, emotive
Trigger Warnings: imprisonment, domestic abuse, spousal rape, car accident death, entrapment by pregnancy, emotional abuse, suidical ideation, mention of stillbirth, “hysteria”, hysterectomy, abortion, misogyny
˗ˏˋ ´ˎ˗
The Review
I picked Weyward up on a whim and am so pleased that I did. Historical fiction mixed with magical realism and a dash of incredibly rich writing made it a real pleasure to read. The narrative weaves between three women across five centuries, deftly showcasing the myriad ways in which women demonstrate resilience and bravery under difficult circumstances.
Being totally honest, I often struggle with split narrative timelines in novels. I can’t be the only one who has found themselves bored with one section of a book, willing the boring chapters to end in order to get back to the characters I am invested in… right? Thankfully, Weyward’s leading ladies are all so fabulous and their stories so engaging, that I was invested in each timeline equally. This actually sped up my reading as the story progressed, as I wanted to find out how each character was doing in their timeline more and more desperately. If you want to read a moving story with wonderful characters that emphasizes the transformative power of nature, please pick this up!
Witch. The word slithers from the mouth like a serpent, drips from the tongue as thick and black as tar. We never thought of ourselves as witches, my mother and I. For this was a word invented by men, a word that brings power to those who speak it, not those it describes. A word that builds gallows and pyres, turns breathing women into corpses.
One thing I will say before really digging in to the review, is that there are a lot of trigger warnings for this novel (see above for a summary). Reading through the list, it may seem that this is a tome of sheer doom and gloom, but it actually didn’t feel that way to me. Obviously, a lot of the trigger warnings may be Hard Nos for some people, and that’s totally fair, however I found this story so engaging and the characters so strong, that the TWs didn’t beat me down as much as they could have. Being set across five centuries, this book explores a number of methods by which patriarchal societies abuse women.  From the outright cruelties of the 17th Century to the more insidious offences of modern society, there is a lot of violence and misogyny at work here. It can get difficult in parts, but I found myself uplifted by the women’s strength in the end.
Now, I’ve discussed how strong the characters are; let me properly introduce them to you! Kate, living in her 2019 timeline, wants to escape a violent partner and discover the truth about her family. Violet, in 1942 and the midst of the Second World War, wants to escape the societal confines and expectations of femininity and live a life she chooses. Altha in 1619 just wants to survive. I loved them all. I cared about them all. I may have even shed a tear or two over them (and books don’t make me cry super often). I particularly loved Violet and her sheer determination to live her own life. I really appreciated seeing her as a teen from her own perspective, as well as from Kate’s perspective looking back at Violet as an old woman. (I want grow up to be an eccentric old lady with the witchiest house in the world just like her!) The interlacing of their stories is so well conceived, it really feels like you’re seeing a cohesive timeline rather than random sections plonked together.
Perhaps one day, she said, there would be a safer time. When women could walk the earth, shining bright with power, and yet live.
There is so much witchcraft detail in this book, dropped in so sneakily and creatively, I just loved it! All the leading ladies have Witch Marks (which definitely need to be used in witchy stories more frequently), but they’re not overly emphasized… they’re just there and mentioned in passing in various subtle ways. The way the Familiars work is also super cool; not every animal can be a familiar, and they aren’t necessarily easily controlled, but they provide emotional support and do their witches’ bidding when needed. I especially loved the constant presence of the crows, which at first seem wild and dangerous, but eventually become as important to the plot as the leading characters as symbols of power. And I love, love, love how the magic stems so much from the witches’ connection to the natural world. It just felt so right to me.
One notable factor in Weyward for me was how deftly Emilia Hart wove historical facts into the narrative. From the Lancashire Assizes to the Pendle Witch Trials and King James I and his obsession with Witch Hunts, Altha’s timeline felt so based in history as to be almost visceral. This sort of thing really happened to living women. I was especially impressed by the use of the Great Comet of 1618; Hart definitely did her research in order to place her story firmly in the real world, with an additional magical touch.
There was something about us – the Weyward women – that bonded us more tightly with the natural world. We can feel it, she said, the same way we feel rage, sorrow or joy. The animals, the birds, the plants – they let us in, recognising us as one of their own. That is why roots and leaves yield so easily under our fingers, to form tonics that bring comfort and healing. That is why animals welcome our embrace. Why the crows – the ones who carry the sign – watch over us and do our bidding, why their touch brings our abilities into sharpest relief.
Weyward has become one of my favourite reads for 2024, and has 100% got a solid seat in my Top Ten of the Year. It is endlessly impressive to me that is was Emilia Hart’s DEBUT NOVEL. Seriously, my hat is off to her for creating a story that felt so real and so magical at the same time. I will definitely be reading more of her work as it is published. If my recommendation isn’t enough, Weyward also won Goodreads’ Best Historical Fiction title in 2023. And if you buy a physical copy of the book, you get a neat little flip book of a crow flying in the page corners. If all that doesn’t sell it to you, I don’t know what will.

The family of a North Carolina man is suing Google for negligence after he died from crashing into a creek below a collapsed bridge at the alleged direction of Google Maps, the Associated Press reported.
On September 30th, 2022, state troopers found Philip Paxson drowned in his overturned pickup truck beneath a bridge that had collapsed nearly a decade earlier.
Mr Paxson (47), from Hickory, North Carolina, was returning home from his daughter’s ninth birthday before the incident, his mother-in-law wrote in a post on Facebook. She added that neither the destroyed bridge nor the road leading to it had any barriers or warning signs to alert drivers of the hazard.
“It was a dark and rainy night and he was following his GPS which led him down a concrete road to a bridge that dropped off into a river,” the post reads. “He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. It was a totally preventable accident. We are grieving his death.”
In addition to Google, the Paxson family’s lawsuit names a number of private property management companies who were responsible for the land where the crash happened and for surrounding plots, according to the Associated Press.
In a statement to the Guardian, a Google spokesperson said: “We have the deepest sympathies for the Paxson family. Our goal is to provide accurate routing information in Maps and we are reviewing this lawsuit.”
Lawyers for the Paxsons allege that several people have tried to flag the washed-out bridge to Google and have included email correspondence between a Hickory resident who tried to use the “suggest an edit” feature in 2020 to get the company to address the issue. Google never responded to the suggestion, allege attorneys.
“Our girls ask how and why their daddy died, and I’m at a loss for words they can understand because, as an adult, I still can’t understand how those responsible for the GPS directions and the bridge could have acted with so little regard for human life,” Alicia Paxson, Mr Paxson’s wife, told the Associated Press.
Mr Paxson is not the first person whose death has been tied to GPS.
In 2020, a Russian motorist (18) froze to death after he and a friend were stranded in a vehicle for a week after following a Google Maps route through Serbia’s “road of bones”.
In 2019, a truck driver in Jakarta, Indonesia, drove off a cliff after following a Google Maps route that was only meant for motorcycles, the Straits Times reported.
In 2015, Zohra Hussain (51) died in a car crash in Indiana after her husband, who was following his Nissan Sentra’s built-in GPS, drove off an unmarked toll road that led to a demolished bridge. Her husband, sued the state of Indiana over the lack of barricades, according to the Chicago Tribune. – Guardia

Rating: 1/5
Book Blurb: “No one builds worlds like Melissa Marr.” ―Charlaine Harris, New York Times bestselling author The Magicians meets One Last Stop in this brand-new fantasy romance Remedial Magic, about an unassuming librarian who 1) has fallen in love with a powerful witch; 2) has discovered that she is a witch; and 3) must attend magical community college to learn how to save her new world from complete destruction by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr!
Ellie loves working in her local library in the small town of Ligonier. She loves baking scones and investigating the mysterious and captivating in her spare time. And there is nothing more mysterious and captivating than the intriguingly beautiful, too properly dressed woman sipping tea in her library who has appeared as if out of nowhere. The pull between them is undeniable, and Ellie is not sure that she wants to resist.
Prospero, a powerful witch from the magical land of Crenshaw, is often accused of being… ruthless in her goals and ambitions. But she is driven to save her dying homeland, and a prophecy tells her that Ellie is the key. Unbeknownst to Ellie, her powers have not yet awakened. But all of that is about to change.
Review:
Three people, thrown into a world of magic and forced to go to witch college all the while deal with relationship drama, new powers, and no escape. This story is told in about 6 POVS and the three main characters are Ellie ( a local librarian who lives a cozy life), Maggie (a lawyer who is trying to escape her abusive ex and save her son), and Dan (a guy who went hiking and was dying of cancer but has a second chance at life). Ellie meets Prospero, a mysterious woman who kisses her ( Prospero was going to kill her but decided not to, she was sent to retrieve Ellie because there was a prophecy about Ellie saving the magic world). Maggie gets into a car crash that was planned by her husband that would have killed her and her son but her magic awakened when she saved them both only for her to be whisked away by the handsome Sondre, the headmaster of the witch college, and Dan awakens after a hiking accident at the witch college. Ellie is excited about the prospect of having magic and falling for the beautiful woman who kissed her. Maggie wants nothing more than to escape and go back to her son, but that wont stop her from sleeping with Sondre. Dan refuses to leave, he wants to stay at witch college forever. All the while witches are dying from a mysterious disease and the Ellie has to solve the prophecy. This book was a if you took three drops of paint and put it into water, muddy, all over the place, and lacking any clear distinction and the end product is just something that is unclear and not pretty. Initially I was so excited to read this book but it immediately fell flat, and I kept pushing myself to finish it and the fact that this is the first book in the series is a big no thank you, especially with how this book went. I definitely will not be continuing this series. This book starts off abruptly and is all over the place, the characters all lacked depth and actual interesting aspects to them, the world building felt nonexistent, and cohesive story where? The book doesn't really feel like much is happening and for a book that was advertised as The Magicians meets One Last Stop, it gave neither to me and I enjoyed both of those books. This book was not for me, and unfortunately I should have DNF'ed by the second chapter because it just kept dragging on and I just was left disappointed by the end. This one is not for me and if you like magic school and relationship drama then give it a go, I guess, maybe you'll have a better time with it than I did.
*SPOILER* The ending itself was just not it ( the fact that Maggie is forced into a marriage and to have her and her sons minds warped and she has to obey Sondre while Ellie is forced into marriage and mindwipe by Prospero all the while Dan ( who barely even had any personality or characterization throughout the book and really did NOTHING, seriously go on Dan, give me nothing) gets to just enjoy life. I felt ick, just so much ick,
*Thanks Netgalley and Tor Publishing Group, Bramble for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

The decades-old US law barring domestic abusers from possessing firearms contradicts the nation’s “historical tradition” of access to guns even for pe ople who may not be “model citizens,” an appeals court said in a ruling that prompted a Justice Department rebuke.
The statute is unconstitutional because it gives too much power to Congress to determine who qualifies as “law-abiding, responsible citizens” when it comes to gun ownership, the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday. A unanimous three-judge panel wondered: who’s next?
“Could speeders be stripped of their right to keep and bear arms? Political nonconformists? People who do not recycle or drive an electric vehicle?” the New Orleans-based court asked in the decision.
The ruling vacated the conviction of a Texas man, Zackey Rahimi, who pleaded guilty to violating the law by keeping a pistol at home despite being subject to a civil domestic-violence restraining order for assaulting his former girlfriend. It’s the latest fallout from a US Supreme Court ruling in June that paved the way for courts to reconsider a wide variety of gun restrictions.
“Rahimi, while hardly a model citizen, is nonetheless part of the political community entitled to the Second Amendment’s guarantees, all other things equal,” said the appellate panel, comprised of two judges appointed by former President Donald Trump and one by Ronald Reagan.
Rahimi’s home was searched after he was involved in five shootings in a two-month span, including firing at a law enforcement vehicle in December 2020, firing at a driver after getting in a car accident and shooting multiple rounds in the air in January 2021 “after his friend’s credit card was declined at a Whataburger restaurant,” the appeals court said.
US Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement that Congress passed the law 30 years ago after determining “that a person who is subject to a court order that restrains him or her from threatening an intimate partner or child cannot lawfully possess a firearm.”
“Whether analyzed through the lens of Supreme Court precedent, or of the text, history, and tradition of the Second Amendment, that statute is constitutional,” Garland said. “Accordingly, the department will seek further review of the Fifth Circuit’s contrary decision.”
Rahimi’s lawyer, James Matthew Wright, didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta called the decision “dangerous,” noting that firearms are used to commit more than half of all “intimate partner homicides” in the US. He said restraining orders in his state still bar possession of guns and urged residents “to utilize these life-saving tools.”
Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, said in a statement that the 5th Circuit decision should be overturned.
“This extreme and dangerous ruling is a death sentence for women and families as domestic violence is far too often a precursor to gun violence,” Shannon said. “When someone is able to secure a restraining order, we must do everything possible to keep them and their families safe — not empower the abuser with easy access to firearms.”
Everytown for Gun Safety, which advocates gun-safety measures, is backed by Michael Bloomberg, founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP.
The case is USA v. Rahimi, 21-11001, US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (New Orleans).
Link to article
It was not very popular the last time I said this and I know adding more guns to the equation isn’t gonna solve the problem, but i really really think it’s time women learn self defense, including gun training and possibly owning one.

Mystery/Thriller Books I Read This Year with LGBTQ+ Main & Side Characters 🏳️‍🌈
This year I read so many interesting mystery and thriller books and wanted to make this list because I didn't even know that there were that many mystery/thriller books that featured LGBTQ+ characters until this year. These books were all a joy to read and I hope that you'll enjoy them as well. I don't want to mislead anyone so I'll put the pairings in parentheses and let you decide which ones speak to you or not.
Ace of Spades - Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (Main Characters)
Students Chiamaka "Chi" and Devon are tormented by an anonymous gossip account that is hellbent on ruining their senior year. If you like Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars you'll love it.
All These Sunken Souls: A Black Horror Anthology - Edited by Circe Moskowitz (Various Characters) and features the following authors:
Kalynn Bayron, Ashia Monet, Liselle Sambury, Sami Ellis, Joel Rochester, Joelle Wellington, Brent C. Lambert, Donyae Coles, Ryan Douglass, Circe Moskowitz
I'm not a big fan of horror novels but I found all of these short stories to be really interesting. They range from confusing to mildly unsettling to very creepy so there is something for everyone. Just a heads up there's a bit of gore but that's something to be expected in a horror novel.
And Don’t Look Back - Rebecca Barrow (Main Characters)
Harlow Ford is a teenager who has bounced from place to place her whole life due to her mother Cora attempting to outrun something or someone. While attempting to flee their current location, Harlow and her mother get into a car accident and her mother dies from her injuries. Before she dies, Cora instructs Harlow to take a key and find a safety deposit box and to "Keep running, and don't stop". In this box Harlow discovers money and new identities as well as a deed to a house and pictures of aunts she never knew existed. Harlow then has to decide if she wants to run forever or solve the mystery to her past. Nearly everyone in this book is sapphic except for a few characters.
Black Cake - Charmaine Wilkerson (Main & Side Characters)
Estranged siblings Byron and Benny Bennett, affectionately called B&B by their mother Eleanor, have to put aside their differences after her sudden death. The family lawyer reveals that Eleanor left behind various tapes detailing her life and that the last Black cake she made is in the freezer but cannot be cut until the time is right. Told in two timelines, we learn about Eleanor's life and how she came to be her mother and it's a tale of loss, heartbreak, and perseverance. If you haven't already seen it, Hulu has adapted it into a tv series and all episodes are available to watch.
Cutting Teeth - Chandler Baker (Side Characters)
The book's selling point is vampire preschoolers, but it's mainly about three mothers Rhea, Mary Beth, and Darby and their struggles with motherhood. When their children's teacher Ms. Ollie is found dead, cracks form in their friendships and personal lives as they struggle to manage their children's thirst for blood. There are two lesbian moms of one of the preschoolers that are mentioned here and there but they don't play a big part in the story.
The Golden Spoon - Jessa Maxwell (Side Character)
Six amateur bakers are invited to compete on The Golden Spoon, a baking competition hosted by a famous baker Betsy Martin. They're all whisked away to Grafton manor, Betsy's family home. The competition starts off with undetectable acts of sabotage and ends in a shocking murder. One of the reviews compared it to Only Murders in the Building because of some amateur sleuthing done by middle aged tech guru bachelor Pradyumna and retired nurse Lottie, but I don't think they're similar at all just because of the age gap. One of the contestants Peter is gay and has a husband and daughter but he is not a major player in this book. Hulu got the rights to adapt this book into a series so I can't wait to see it in the next year or two.
Their Vicious Games - Joelle Wellington (Side Characters)
After getting into a fight with a classmate, Edgewater Academy student Adina Walker loses her spot at her dream college. In hopes of reclaiming her future, she charms her way into getting accepted into a competition called The Finish. Held at the estate of the Remington family, the founders of the Edgewater Academy itself, The Finish is an intense competition that consists of three challenges: a Ride, a Raid, and a Royale. Competing along 11 other girls, many of which are bloodthirsty for victory, Adina tries to keep her humanity intact to not only win but stay alive. If you like The Hunger Games I think you'll enjoy this book. While their sexual identities aren't clearly defined, two of the female characters are in a queerplatonic relationship that at times seems more romantic than platonic. The Gotham Group has acquired the rights to a live adaptation but I'm unsure of whether or not this book will become a tv series or a movie.
Books that are part of a series are mentioned below. Struck titles are the books that were read in previous years.
Andy Mills Series - Lev A.C. Rosen (Main Characters)
Evander "Andy" Mills is a gay cop who was fired after being caught in a raid at a gay club and is now a private investigator for the LGBTQ+ community in 1950s San Francisco. I can't say too much about the series without spoiling the contents of either book so be sure to check out the goodreads pages for the summaries of the books.
TW: because of the time period there are a lot of homophobic slurs, graphic or off-page police brutality, and some violence in general
Lavender House
The Bell in the Fog
Secret Staircase Mystery Series - Gigi Pandian (Side Characters)
Tempest Raj, a former magician, joins her father's Secret Staircase Construction company that specializes in creating secret rooms for clients. In each book she encounters seemingly impossible locked in mysteries that occur in the homes of their clients while also trying to figure out the mystery behind a family curse that claimed the life of her aunt and possibly her mother who disappeared several years ago. Dahlia, a true crime writer is the older sister of Tempest's best friend Ivy is married to Vanessa, a criminal defense attorney. They along with their young daughter Natalie often end up providing advice or clues needed to help solve the mysteries.
Under Lock & Skeleton Key
The Raven Thief
Thursday Murder Club Series - Richard Osman (One of the main characters but not revealed/confirmed until Book 4)
In the Coopers Chase Retirement Village, four retirees get together every Thursday to solve a murder: Elizabeth, Ibrahim, Ron, and Joyce the newcomer. With the help of their friends Chris and Donna on the police force as well as handyman with a shady past Bogdan, there's no case this crew can't solve. The books are full of charm, wittiness, and excitement and I can't wait for book number five. Not much is known yet, but there is going to be a movie! Filming is supposed to start next year but I don't think they have released the casting information yet but I hope that they choose their cast well.

Defenders of Justice: The Integral Role of Personal Injury Lawyers
Tumblr media
In a world where accidents and unexpected events can disrupt lives in an instant, the need for justice and compensation becomes paramount. Personal injury lawyers stand as guardians of the injured, advocating for their rights and helping them navigate the complex legal landscape to seek compensation for their losses. In this comprehensive article, we delve into the multifaceted role of personal injury lawyers, the services they provide, their significance in society, and the factors to consider when selecting the right legal advocate.
Understanding Personal Injury Law:
Personal injury law covers a wide range of cases where individuals are harmed due to the negligence, recklessness, or intentional actions of others. These cases encompass various types of accidents, injuries, and incidents, including but not limited to:
Car accidents
Slip and fall accidents
Medical malpractice
Workplace accidents
Product liability
Premises liability
Wrongful death
The overarching goal of personal injury law is to ensure that victims receive fair compensation for their physical, emotional, and financial losses caused by the negligence or wrongdoing of others.
The Role of a Personal Injury Lawyer:
Tumblr media
A personal injury lawyer is a legal professional who specializes in representing individuals who have been injured due to the negligence or intentional actions of another party. These lawyers play a pivotal role in ensuring that injured individuals receive the compensation they are entitled to under the law. Here's an in-depth look at their multifaceted role:
1. Legal Consultation and Case Evaluation:
One of the primary responsibilities of a personal injury lawyer is to offer legal consultation and assess the merits of a potential case. They review the facts, evidence, and circumstances surrounding the injury to determine if there are grounds for legal action.
2. Investigation and Evidence Gathering:
Personal injury lawyers conduct thorough investigations to gather evidence that supports their client's claims. This may involve obtaining accident reports, medical records, witness statements, and any other relevant information to build a strong case.
3. Negotiation with Insurance Companies:
Insurance companies often play a significant role in personal injury claims. Personal injury lawyers negotiate with insurance adjusters to ensure that victims receive fair and adequate compensation for their injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
4. Legal Strategy and Case Preparation:
Once retained, personal injury lawyers develop a comprehensive legal strategy tailored to each case's unique circumstances. They prepare legal documents, file necessary paperwork, and ensure that all deadlines are met.
5. Advocacy and Representation:
Personal injury lawyers represent their clients throughout the legal process. They negotiate settlements, represent clients in court if necessary, and present arguments that support their client's right to compensation.
6. Emotional Support:
Suffering an injury can be emotionally and mentally distressing. Personal injury lawyers offer emotional support to their clients, guiding them through the legal process and providing reassurance during challenging times.
7. Expertise in Damages Assessment:
Personal injury lawyers have a deep understanding of how to assess the full extent of damages suffered by their clients. This includes evaluating both economic damages (such as medical bills and lost wages) and non-economic damages (such as pain and suffering).
8. Trial Representation:
While many personal injury cases are settled outside of court, personal injury lawyers are prepared to take cases to trial if a fair settlement cannot be reached. They present evidence, cross-examine witnesses, and argue on behalf of their clients to secure just compensation.
Why Personal Injury Lawyers Matter:
Tumblr media
Access to Justice: Personal injury lawyers provide access to the legal system for individuals who may not have the resources or knowledge to navigate complex legal procedures on their own.
Fair Compensation: These lawyers ensure that injured individuals receive fair compensation for their losses, helping them rebuild their lives after an accident.
Leveling the Playing Field: Personal injury cases often involve going up against powerful insurance companies and corporate entities. Personal injury lawyers level the playing field by advocating for the rights of individuals.
Expertise in Law and Procedure: Personal injury lawyers possess specialized knowledge of personal injury laws, regulations, and legal procedures. This expertise is crucial for building strong cases and achieving favorable outcomes.
Selecting the Right Personal Injury Lawyer:
Tumblr media
Choosing the right personal injury lawyer can significantly impact the outcome of your case. Here are some factors to consider when selecting a legal advocate:
Experience and Specialization: Look for lawyers with a proven track record in handling personal injury cases. Experience in your specific type of case can be particularly advantageous.
Reputation and Reviews: Research the lawyer's reputation within the legal community and read client reviews to gauge their professionalism and effectiveness.
Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential in a lawyer-client relationship. Choose a lawyer who listens attentively, explains legal concepts clearly, and keeps you informed about your case's progress.
Resources and Support: Personal injury cases often require extensive resources for investigation, evidence gathering, and expert testimony. Ensure the lawyer has the necessary resources to build a strong case.
Contingency Fee Arrangement: Many personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. This can be advantageous if you're concerned about upfront legal fees.
Conclusion:
In a world where accidents can have far-reaching consequences, personal injury lawyers stand as advocates for the injured, fighting for justice and fair compensation. Their expertise, dedication, and commitment to their client's well-being are essential in upholding the principles of accountability and justice. By providing legal representation, negotiating with insurance companies, and building compelling cases, personal injury lawyers empower individuals to seek the compensation they deserve and navigate the path toward recovery. In this role, they not only play a critical part in individual lives but also contribute to the fairness and integrity of the broader legal system.

I finished reading the medical documents I needed to review for my car accident discovery. I was in multiple car accidents not at my fault within months of each other so the same lawyer is handling all the cases. I actually feel sick because I'm so excited. Almost 6 years of this.

How to Find the Best Phoenix Car Accident Lawyer for Your Case
Tumblr media
If you have been involved in a car accident in Phoenix, you may be facing medical bills, property damage, lost wages, and pain and suffering. You may also be dealing with insurance companies, who may try to minimize your claim or deny it altogether. You need a phoenix car accident attorney who can protect your rights and fight for the compensation you deserve.
But how do you find the best phoenix car accident attorney for your case? You can use the following guidance to help with your search:
Understanding a Car Accident Attorney's Role
A lawyer with expertise in managing lawsuits involving motor vehicle incidents is known as a car accident attorney. They have the knowledge and experience to deal with the complex legal issues that arise from such accidents, such as liability, negligence, causation, damages, and insurance coverage.
You can get aid from a vehicle accident attorney by:
Examining your accident and accumulating proof to back up your claim
Negotiating with the insurance providers on your behalf
If required, filing a lawsuit and acting as your advocate in court
Seeking the maximum compensation for your injuries and losses
Your case's outcome may be significantly impacted by hiring a car accident attorney. According to a study by the Insurance Research Council, injured people who hired lawyers received 3.5 times more money than those who did not.
Researching and Identifying Potential Lawyers
The first step in finding the best phoenix car accident attorney for your case is to do some research and identify potential candidates. You can start by asking for referrals from your family, friends, or colleagues who have been in a similar situation. You can also use online resources such as lawyer directories, review sites, or social media platforms to find reputable lawyers in your area.
Some of the factors you should consider when researching potential lawyers are:
Their location and availability
Their practice areas and specialization
Their reputation and ratings
Their fees and payment options
You should aim to narrow down your list to at least three or four lawyers who meet your criteria and contact them for a consultation.
Checking Credentials and Qualifications
The next step in finding the best phoenix car accident attorney for your case is to check their credentials and qualifications. You should verify that they are licensed to practice law in Arizona and that they have no disciplinary actions or complaints against them. You can check this information on the Arizona State Bar website.
You should also ask them about their education, training, and experience in handling car accident cases. A good attorney to retain is one who:
A legal qualification from a reputable legal institution
A certification or recognition from a reputable organization such as Super Lawyers or Martindale-Hubbell
A track record of successful results in accident cases similar to yours
You should also ask them about their approach and strategy for your case, such as whether they prefer to settle or go to trial, how they communicate with their clients, and how they handle contingency fees.
Assessing Track Record and Success Rate
The third step in finding the best car accident lawyer for your case is to assess their track record and success rate. You should ask them to provide you with some examples of their previous cases and outcomes, such as:
The type and severity of the injuries and damages involved
The amount of compensation recovered
The percentage of cases that were settled or went to trial
The average duration of the cases
You should also ask them for references from their past clients who can attest to their skills, professionalism, and results. You can also read online reviews and testimonials from other sources such as Google, Yelp, or Avvo to get a sense of their reputation and client satisfaction.
Assessing Availability and Responsiveness
The final step in finding the best phoenix car accident attorney for your case is to assess their availability and responsiveness. In your search for a lawyer, look for:
Simple to contact via text, email, or phone
Prompt in returning your calls and messages
Ready to respond to your inquiries and handle your problems
Flexible in scheduling appointments and meetings
Committed to providing your case the time and attention it needs
You should also ask them about their caseload and how many cases they handle at a time. You should avoid lawyers who are too busy or overloaded with work, as they may not be able to devote enough time and resources to your case.

RIP Olivia Newton John, John Eastman, Anne Heche, Robin Griggs, and Denise Dowse
I was out sick last week and missed a bunch of celebrity deaths. Here is my combined remembrance:
Remembering Olivia Newton-John 1948-2022
Tumblr media
Newton-John in Grease
Singer/actress Olivia Newton-John has died at 73. She was already established as a pop singer in the 70s when she was cast as Sandy in the 1978 film adaptation of Grease. It is one of the great nostalgic musicals of all time and Newton-John and co-star John Travolta made this timeless. She and Travolta reunited a few more times. It needs to be added that her version of “Over the Rainbow” appeared in John Woo’s Face/Off, one of Travolta’s best performances. But I digress. They teamed up for a Christmas album in 2012 as well.
The soundtrack to Grease was a massive hit. I got the vinyl in my collection. There are some pop standards on this and her songs are among the highlights. Her 1981 song “Physical” was one of the biggest hit songs of the 80s, spending 10 weeks at #1 and Billboard named it #1 of the 1980s. I remember her video for “Soul Kiss” in 1985 too.

Remembering John Eastman 1939-2022
Tumblr media
Eastman and McCartney
Entertainment lawyer John Eastman has died at 83. He was the older brother of Linda McCartney. When Paul McCartney married Linda in 1969, John and his father Lee began representing Paul after The Beatles break-up. Paul recently paid tribute to his brother-in-law online.

Remembering Anne Heche 1969-2022
Tumblr media
Heche being held by the cast of Cedar Rapids
Sad news that about a week after a terrible car accident, actress Anne Heche has died at 53. She got a lot of attention in the 90s for being Ellen DeGeneres’s girlfriend during the time that she came out. But Heche was actually a good supporting actress. Notable performances include Walking and Talking,  Donnie Brasco, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Wag the Dog, Gus Van Sant’s remake of Psycho, the criminally underrated comedy Cedar Rapids, and Rampart.
Shortly before I was an intern for Ted Demme (I was a location intern on Monument Ave and at his production company Spanky Pictures), Ted directed Anne in the “Manhattan Miracle” segment of the HBO anthology film SUBWAYStories: Tales from the Underground. It was almost a silent film, when Gregory Hines sees Anne on the opposite subway platform. Great segment of an underrated film!

Remembering Robin Griggs 1973-2022
Tumblr media
Griggs
Soap opera actress Robin Griggs has died at 49. I was not too familiar with her films, TV shows or soaps, but what got my attention about her is that she got her start as a teen on the Nickelodeon movie review show Rated K: For Kids by Kids.  I was into it at the very moment I was getting into movies and watching Siskel & Ebert, it was tweens and teens talking about movies in a way you could relate. I sent in fan letters and even hoped to get on the show as a critic one day. Once in a while I got a postcard back thanking me and one time I even was told my fan letter was selected in a contest and I won sneakers! I don’t really remember Robin on the show, so I think she was on the show in the very beginning.

Remembering Denise Dowse 1958-2022
Tumblr media
Dowse as Tyrone’s Mother in Requiem for a Dream
Actress Denise Dowse has died at 64. She actually got her start as an FBI agent in a 1989 episode of ALF. Also worth noting that she appeared in two separate episode of in Seinfeld 1992 and 1994. Her biggest role was as Ms. Teasley  Beverly Hills, 90210 on from 1990 to 2000. Other notable roles include Requiem for a Dream and Ray.
