"Captain Video: Master of the Stratosphere" (1951). Originally aired on the DuMont Network, which now no longer exists, of the over 1,500 episodes of this series, only a handful exist today.
I have wanted to draw @typefourty's Video and my dear Nomh doing a thing together for actual literal years. The composition came to me in a dream but I've never been able to hammer out a design I liked for it, so it always ended up scrapped.
Meanwhile, with Peter Potamus and So-So flying in that Magic Balloon over the wastes of southern Arizona
[Wherein we find Peter Potamus explaining unto So-So certain interesting episodes]
PETER POTAMUS: Have I ever mentioned to you of the time where my very charm actually caused no less than Sky King "himself" to have a heart attack on the glimpse of this very balloon from his very plane, the Songbird?
SO-SO, somewhat excitedly: And how his daughter Penny actually had to take over the controls just to get to the nearest airport? And use the radio to summon medical aid and get an ambulance?
PETER POTAMUS, explaining what eventually ensued: Long story short, So-So, it actually was more or less hypertension aggravated by such an unusual sight like this very balloon! He was in hospital for a few days, and managed to recover!
SO-SO: No wonder they say "if looks could kill--!!"
PETER POTAMUS: And right where we're flying, So-So, was where my very presence in a small-scale zeppelin of my own construction sent Captain Video and crew into such stunned disbelief that they actually had to hit the self-destruct button on their spacecraft, the effects of which were enough to cause a surprise explosion in the skies that the CB Bears--not to mention the Sheriff of Cochise, for good measure--to investigate the disappearance!
SO-SO, like an excitable schoolboy getting his news from some disreputable supermarket tabloid: Even if the spaceship of Captain Video's Video Rangers left no trace, from what I understand!
PETER POTAMUS: Even then ... say, do you still recall that statue of the hippo god I got from some South Seas island after yours truly was mistaken for some hippo god of theirs during a crash landing?
SO-SO: I think I've seen it around your compound somewhere.
PETER POTAMUS: At any rate, So-So my simian companion, we are heading back that way ... and will be picking up a cousin or two of mine, to introduce them to the wonder of Polynesia Uncharted in such wondrous glories of wearing little more than yourself (especially while diving and surfing), and realising that sex is actually quite enjoyable and relaxing! Not to mention being in exceptionally good graces among the dolphins in ways bound to make Flipper jealous!
[Soooo, as the Magic Balloon departs the scene westbound, we can hear the closing lines of the Peter Potamus theme tune--"Yes, it's time to meet Peter Potamus,/Our Ideal!"--accompanying all preparatory to the aforementioned escapade in Polynesia Uncharted.]
