📖 The Other Miss Bridgerton (Rokesby #3)
✍️ Julia Quinn
5/5 ⭐️
4/5 🌶
💭📝 REVIEW:
I keep saying that Julia Quinn is one of my favorite authors and this book just proves my point even further.
In this book we get to know Andrew’s story, third in line of the Rokesby brothers. We got to meet him in book one, and we got a sense of his fun and playful personality and it didn’t get lost in book 3 for certain.
We also get to meet a different side of the Bridgerton family, specifically Poppy Bridgerton — a curious and adventurous mind.
It is known throughout these series that the Rokesbys and the Bridgertons are very familiar with each other, and it was rather interesting to see that in such large families sometimes someone gets lost in the crowd.
Curiosity led Poppy into Captain Andrew’s ship — not by choice — where a lot of secrets sailed within and where she found herself trapped in an unknown adventure to Portugal.
In a time where the myth that a woman on board was a bad omen, she was kept in the captain’s cabin for all sailor’s good sake. But when one has no one to talk but the captain himself and a 13-year-old boy, a lot can happen in a fortnight.
It was such a lovely book to read. I think Andrew’s personality and also Poppy’s was what made this such a great book. I lost count of the time I had to stop reading just to let myself laugh my ass off. They are feisty, and flirty, and awkward. But also caring, and understanding. They were truly a match made in heaven and this was a wonder to experience while reading!
On a side note, I’m from Portugal and I’m currently living in the US, and this book having its background in my homeland made me so happy as well? I might be a little biased but it filled me with joy nevertheless!
As always I think you should give these series a try if you’re into rom-com and period romances!

The Other Miss Bridgerton Book Review
Tumblr media
The Other Miss Bridgerton
Author: Julia Quinn
Description: Fiercely independent and adventurous, Poppy Bridgerton will only wed a suitor whose keen intellect and interests match her own. Sadly, none of the fools from her London season qualify. While visiting a friend on the Dorset coast, Poppy is pleasantly surprised to discover a smugglers' hideaway tucked inside a cave. But her delight turns to dismay when two pirates kidnap her and take her aboard a ship, leaving her bound and gagged on the captain's bed...
Rating: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆
Review: Hoist your sails everybody! We’re going on yet another Atlantic adventure! Captain Andrew James very much does not welcome you aboard the Infinity, especially if you’re a Bridgerton. Alas, in The Other Miss Bridgerton he has no choice.
The third book of the Rokesbys is an excitingly thrilling novella about faux pirates, secrets and the seascape, sprinkled with the foreshadowing of exotic places (for a gentle Englishwoman that is). My arms welcome openly Quinn’s successful try of getting out of her dear comfort zone: Great Britain – particularly the ton.
I’ll have to be honest, during my read of the previous Rokesbys I was convinced Andrew’s love interest would eventually be Georgiana Bridgerton. It took me a moment to rewire my brain to digest that The Other Miss Bridgerton wasn’t about them, but rather a cousin of her’s. Nevertheless, Poppy Bridgerton did not disappoint.
Miss Bridgerton is clever, curious and vivacious, much like her future relative Hyacinth Bridgerton. And much like her counterpart Andrew Rokesby. Their shared traits and interests make them undeniably compatible. With an enjoyable dynamic and a skilfully written story, there’s not much to bring this book down.
However, one of its main flaws, in my humble opinion, is that it’s too slow paced. Almost the entirety of this novella is played out in merely six days. I’d understand if the journey took longer time to reach its destination, yet it doesn’t. The Other Miss Bridgerton hangs on a thin line, leaning toward being dragged-out and edging on boring.
On the other hand, its main perk is the few whimsical twists and turns it suddenly takes when you don’t expect it. The last chapter in particular (epilogue notwithstanding) was my favourite, with its ardent emotion and heartwarming resolution.
All in all, a marvellous third instalment to the Bridgerton prequels. It truly holds up to its predecessors, all thus far equally as good. Bravo Julia Quinn, you’ve come a long way.

Oh another 😍, you mentioned that this photo was baby Sophie meeting one of the Rokesby's (don't remember which one soz), could we hear more about it?
Tumblr media
Andrew Rokesby hadn’t worn his uniform in some time but when Billie informed him that they were hosting a joint summer party with the Bridgerton’s that year and the King and Queen were due to attend he dug his blues out and wore them for the first time since his wedding with pride.
It was a busy party and the sun was shining over the grassy verges of Aubrey Hall the location for todays events.
He had watched his niece and nephews and his own children not acting their age running around with the Bridgerton’s and a petite blonde girl pretty much clinging onto to Benedict’s had for dear life as she tried to keep up. When it was obvious she wouldn’t. Andrew watched his eldest son Roger lift the girl onto Benedict’s shoulders and they were off again.
Andrew chuckled turned to his wife and resumed the conversation he was having.
His head has grown hot on the blazing son and he took his hat off. Most of the other men didn’t have theirs on and he looked at his brother Edward in his red coat talking to their sister in law and best friend Billie, who ripped his hat off his head ans shoved it into Cecilia’s amused hands.
15 minutes later Andrew realised his hat was missing “pops? Have you seen my hat?” He asked
Poppy was stood with Georgiana who was cradling her 2 year old daughter in her arms and she shook her head “no dear. It won’t have gone far. Roger has probably stolen it again…” she said.
Andrew looked around and saw his eldest talking to Edward’s eldest Thomas and frowned... no hat.
He looked around and spotted Benedict walking over with the blonde girl skipping behind him happily a jump rope on her hands.
Benedict leaned down and whispered something in the young girls ear and she nodded as he pointed over towards Richard Gunningworth, Edmund and Nicholas who were stood laughing.
Thé girl nodded again ans Benedict left her side and she skipped her way over towards where Andrew was standing “excuse me sir… erm captain sir” came a bright happy voice and Andrew turned, an amused smile on his face as he looked down at the greenest eyes he’d seen and that included his sister in law’s seafoam Coloured. This girls practically shone like emeralds.
“How can I help you little one?” He asked with a charming smile
“My names Sophia! But Everyone calls me Sophie!” She said and dipped into a curtsey.
“It’s lovely to meet you Sophie! My name’s Andrew!” He said bowing to her with a chuckle “I must say that is a mighty fine hat you have there”
“I saved it sir!” She said gesturing to it
“Did you now? How did you save it?” He asked interested
“Benni said Tom and Roger were going to throw it into the pond sir! So I asked if I could wear it and because I’m a lady they have to do I ask” she said brightly “or so Benni tells me”
“Benni said that did he?” Andrew chuckled
“He did sir! He’s my favorite person ever! He draws me pictures and let’s me read to him!” She said brightly
“Well that would make anyone a favourite person!” Andrew said brightly
“He also said this was your hat and you were a captain of a bit ship and your wife was a princess you rescued!” She said with wide eyed curiosity
“It is my my hat and I did used to captain a ship but as for a princess…” Andrew grinned looking at Poppy “I’m not sure”
Sophie gasped “but Benni doesn’t lie!” She said
“Well then she must be!” Andrew said finding her couldn’t bring himself to spoil the girls excitement.
“I’d very much like to hear the story one day!” She said brightly as she took the hat off and gave him it back.
“Well maybe you should come over later on when everyone goes and I’ll introduce you to my princess and she can tell you the story?” Andrew said
Sophie squealed “thank you!” And she hugged his legs and ran off squealing happily back to Benedict.
Andrew walked back to Poppy who was now stood with Violet and Edmund “I see you found your hat”
“Our Eldest stole it… it was retrieved by Benedict’s future wife” Andrew grinned
Edmund chuckled “you’ve met Sophie then?”
“He’s 13…” Poppy said
Violet laughed “mark my words…” Violet said pointing them out and smiling as the two were now dancing.
Or Sophie was on Benedict’s toes… and Poppy squeaked “oh they’re so cute…”
And 11 years later… when they watched Benedict twirl his new wife around the same lawn Andrew didn’t let her forget that he was right.

Tagged by @literaryillusions to list ten of my favorite heroes and ten of my favorite heroines from romance novels. I always blank with posts like this, but I’m gonna try my best. These are not listed in any particular order, just the ones that came to the top of my head were listed first.
Favorite Heroes:
1. Sebastian St. Vincent, Devil in Winter: Perhaps a polarizing character for some, Sebastian is one of the ultimate reformed rakes in my opinion. (Maybe a tired trope, but a personal favorite of mine nonetheless.) While he tries to act cold and uncaring, he wants nothing but the best for his heroine pretty much the moment she steps foot into his life, becoming a better man in the process.
2. Vincent Hunt, The Arrangement: One of the biggest cinnamon roll heroes I have ever had the pleasure to read about, though not a surprise coming from Mary Balogh. Vincent is also probably one of the youngest heroes I have ever read about as well, and also lives with a disability after having been blinded during war.
3. Anthony Bridgerton, The Viscount Who Loved Me: The stuffy older brother archetype who is forcing himself not love due to past traumas, but oh does he love a whole hell of a lot, sucking out bee sting poison and all.
4. West Ravenel, Devil’s Daughter: This man right here had such sweet redemption arc, and it didn’t even happen in his own book! Bit of a reformed rake, charming and funny, also wonderful with children! He’s a catch.
5. Liam MacKenzie, The Highlander: My first Scottish hero, and he left quite the impression. He’s rough and brash, but goodness does he just adore his heroine. I don’t tend to like heroes that are super high on the alpha charts, but there’s something tender about Liam too, maybe where he’s already a father when we first meet him. Kerrigan Byrn’s stories tend to have an old school feel to them, and are often filled with very dark pasts and lots of drama, so just a fair warning now if you decide to pick this one up for yourself.
6. Chase Reynaud, The Governess Game: Ah, another devil may care character? What a surprise! Chase likes to keep his feelings in check due to past trauma, but the truth of the matter is, he feels, like a whole lot, and especially for those two charges he claimes he wants to be rid of.
7. Colin Bridgerton, Romancing Mister Bridgerton: Goofy, and seen as nothing but a smooth talking sort of fellow, Colin often wishes he were taken a bit more seriously. Funny and adventurous, his favorite things are his wife and food, in that order, though I’m sure his family makes the list somewhere in there too!
8. Leopold Daughtry, A Duke of Her Own: Known mostly as the Duke or Villiers, he is featured in every single one of Eloisa James’ books in her Desperate Duchesses series. Smooth talking, rakish, and also a bit of a matchmaker. Throughout the series he decides to start doing the right thing after decisions in his past begin to catch up with him.
9. Robert Blaisdell, The Duchess War: I need to read more from Courtney Milan, because I really liked her take on this particular hero. A radical duke trying to atone for the past sins of his family, oh, and refreshingly enough, he’s a virgin!
10. Andrew James Rokesby, The Other Miss Bridgerton: Knows how to Captain/Sail a ship, witty and a great person to have a conversation with, he also will take you on an adventure in Portugal and make sure you get to taste some delicious malasadas for yourself!
Favorite Heroines:
1. Evie Jenner, Devil in Winter: Seemingly a quiet and and shy wallflower with a stutter, she secretly has more sass and bite than she let’s on. Also has one of the biggest rakes wrapped around her little finger.
2. Sophia Fry, The Arrangment: Another quiet and unassuming young lady, she thinks pretty lowly of herself, but throughout the course of the story she gains strength and the ability to realize that she does deserve love.
3. Kate Sheffield, The Viscount Who Loved Me: a bit loudmouthed and always finding herself in some sort of trouble where her hero is concerned, she entertained me to no end, and I found I really wanted to be her friend. A wonderful older sister. Plus she owns a corgi!
4. Lillian Bowman, It Happened One Autumn: You either like her or you don’t, but I found I liked her very much. She’s brash, stubborn, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. During the course of her book, I found she was making me laugh quite a bit.
5. Penelope Featherington, Romancing Mister Bridgerton: Often looked over, and having been pining over her best friends’s older brother for like...ever, Penelope has more wit than people give her credit for, as well as a very big secret.
6. Samantha Masters, The Scot Beds His Wife: A tough cowgirl from the Wild West, she finds herself in Scotland as she runs from her past and her problems, going toe to toe with her hero, who just so happens to be her very annoying, very Scottish neighbor.
7. Wren Heyden, Someone to Wed: Wren has spent most of her life as recluse due to a somewhat disfiguring blemish on her face, as well as a past filled with traumas. Her story of learning to accept herself, finding love, and face anxieties really spoke to me. I found myself crying during this one, which for me, can be a rare treat in a way.
8. Penelope Campion, The Wallflower Wager: Preferring the company of animals to that of people, aside from her choice of a few close friends, I found myself relating quite a bit to Penelope, while also being drawn to her sunny personality.
9. Constance Stonewell, The Earl I Ruined: Coming across as flighty to others, and seemingly only having interest in gossip and fashion, Constance actually has more wit than people give her credit for, as well as a big heart intent on helping others.
10. Jemma Duchess of Beaumont, This Duchess of Mine: Unabashedly scandalous, clever, and a hell of a good chess player. She’ll entice, intrigue, and entertain you even from her first appearance in the Desperate Duchesses series.
Okay, so there’s my list! I know there’s plenty I’m forgetting, maybe even some I like better who didn’t make it onto this list simply because my memory failed me. Either way, this is what I wrote up, and I’m sticking with it.
I’ll tag @thebooklrandtheduke, @natreadsromance @all-the-kissing-books @pollyssecretlibrary @sunnysaysbookreviews @mfred and anyone else who might like to participate! Also don’t the feel the pressure to do this if you don’t have the time, or if you’d just rather not.

10. Inspiration came in the form of many things and over recent years Benedict Bridgerton had found that inspiration in the form of his wife (A Lack of Inspiration - Benophie)
11. It was strange, Sophie thought as she sat on the floor of the bedroom in Aubrey Hall, she hadn’t thought about her father in so very long and yet over the last 4 days, she had done not a lot else but think about him in her time between fittings, between the shouting and screaming of the Bridgerton’s around her (Pre wedding reflections Sophie & Richard Gunningworth/ Benophie)
12. Benedict wanted to do something nice for Sophie, she had been having trouble sleeping and with Charlie teething and their current unborn child currently using her insides as a punching bag, he knew his wife was downright miserable but she had such a sunny disposition that she wouldn’t complain about it but he saw the way her face flinched every time their new child kicked her insides. (Benedict vs The Stove- Benophie)
13.Andrew Rokesby hadn’t worn his uniform in some time but when Billie informed him that they were hosting a joint summer party with the Bridgerton’s that year and the King and Queen were due to attend he dug his blues out and wore them for the first time since his wedding with pride. 16. Benedict and Sophie had been stuck at My Cottage for a good week already, the storm they had gotten caught in was far worse than anything anyone could have imagined and the Crabtree’s had been unable to get back from wherever they were so Sophie had been left to care for Benedict. (A Close Shave- Benophie)
17. Anthony had no idea what was going on or why Gregory and Hyacinth would just not screaming (Lavender Blue - Bridgerton Siblings)
18. It had been a really easy journey, it was just a weekend away and Sophie had begged him to take the motorbike, they had clothes and they had everything they needed at their cottage and in the end it didn't take much begging (Too Close for Comfort - Benophie - Bridgerton Enterprise AU)
19. For Sophie, there was nothing more perfect in her life than her family. (Like Mother Like Daughter - Sophie & Violet)
20. Paris Fashion week had been everything Sophie had hoped. (What Happens in Paris. Kanthony & Benophie - Bridgerton Enterprise AU)
I think my favourite has to be “For Sophie, there was nothing more perfect in her life than her family.” because it just sums up everything Sophie had ever wanted in her life. It’s just beautiful.
I do realise I don’t have a style or a particular trait… half of these are concise, half of these are random and long. A bit like my brain hahahahaha
I’m not tagging anyone cause I think people are busy enough but if any of my mutals wanna have a go please do 🧡

The Other Miss Bridgerton: Book Review
Privateers, secret government agents, and a trip to Portugal?! You’ll find all this and more in what proved to be a wacky romantic comedy with two delightfully charming leads. Without putting it off any longer, I’ll get right into my thoughts, feelings, and rambles on...
Tumblr media
Without too much exposition involved, our story really jumps right into the main plot rather quickly. There’s no waiting around wondering when certain events are going to take place -- *cough cough* Like our heroine getting taken on to what is practically a pirate ship! -- or when our main leads are finally going to meet. This all takes place at a reasonably fast pace, but that was something I thoroughly enjoyed about it. Poppy, the heroine, is quite literally swept up on an adventure, and you feel as if you’ve been swept right up along with her.
The story opens in Charmouth, it’s early summer, and Poppy Bridgerton’s second season in London has just drawn to a close. She’s staying with one of her very pregnant friends so she might keep the woman company while her husband is away, and enjoy some time spent by the coast for herself. On a fateful day of exploration, Poppy is a curious sort, you see, she comes across the most interesting of caves that appears to be under the use of pirates. Unfortunately two crew members happen to be in the cave just as Poppy is, and after a bit of light kidnapping, she finds herself in the Captain’s quarters.
Said Captain, Andrew James Rokesby, is actually a secret government agent posing as a privateer. He’s the third son of an aristocratic father, and more than well acquainted with the Bridgerton’s of Kent. The same Bridgerton’s who just so happen to be the cousins of the captured young woman on his bed. With a time sensitive mission awaiting him in Portugal, Andrew must set sail with Miss Bridgerton in tow whether either of them like it or not.
This is really where this novel begins to shine, because it’s the dialogue between Poppy and Andrew that kept my attention from start to finish. I was enraptured by this couple, and found myself grinning, and maybe even giggling a time or two throughout the entirety of my reading. They bicker, they quote shakespeare, they try to one up one another constantly due to how incredibly intelligent they both just so happen to be. It was a joy to be on that ship with them, and it was a joy to watch their story unfold. I would say the only issue I had with this story was the ending, which I know can seem like a major complaint since it’s an ending for crying out loud, but it’s all relatively minor stuff. I simply felt as if some loose ends were not tied up as neatly as I would have liked, and for whatever reason it all felt a bit abrupt to me, almost as if the ending could have dragged on a little longer. I suppose a part of me just didn’t want this story to end, and maybe that’s my biggest complaint. I wanted to continue spending time with Poppy and Andrew, no matter if they be on some grand adventure, or simply having a conversation in a drawing room.
If you’re looking for a feel good romance with witty dialogue that practically leaps off the page, comedy that will, at the very least, make you smile, and want to have a desire to eat malasadas as much as I do, then this might be the book for you! I’d also say if you’re a fan of Quinn’s past work, then I’m sure you’ll feel quite at home here. She’s most definitely back on form with this particular tale.
Some Trigger Warnings: Kidnapping (chloroform is used), mentions of death, descriptions of violence
