pinocchio and candlewick shouldn’t be training to be fascist soldiers. they should be tending to baby birds that fell out of their nests and stealing fragrant pies from windowsills

I think the saddest part in Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio was when Pinocchio and Candlewick are talking in their beds at the military camp because truly, in that moment, they’re just two little boys trying to find comfort in the only way they know how
To know that Candlewick was robbed of a safe and happy childhood with a loving father hurts very deeply
But, in such a deeply tragic place, Pinocchio reminds Candlewick of what it’s like to be a little boy and do little boy things

Just finished watching Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and MAN, I’m still thinking about that Candlewick kid.
We know what happens to Spazzatura, so that was nice, but what the hell happened with Candlewick? Did he survive? Did he die? Did he ever find out what happened to Pinocchio? Or did that little boy learn to tell his father ‘no’ only at the end of his life after all? I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BRAVE BOY WHO LEARNED TO SAY NO TO HIS FATHER AND ALL HIS FATHER STOOD FOR.

i can tell this sequence was going to be darker and they had to revise it lots of times.

I love how Lou just fully lost control during the Candlewick scene, like this man is a fantastic actor who’s played so many scenes with absurd characters seriously but he just can’t stop laughing at this absolutely ridiculous and truly incredibly sad man.

implication of Pinochio's nose not growing when he says he loves war and is saying he likes it more than Candlewick is so fucking disheartening
not because I think Pinochio actually loves war but because of the symbolism on childhood and how concepts can be twisted and changed and the innocence of children being sold war as a good thing, a game even, as the next scenes show. how when not given all the information, believing in something like that isn't even a lie because you simply do not know better
