Anger does not come from nowhere. The anger you feel is planted inside of you. It may just be a un-manifested seed, it may be a tiny sprout but that anger is in you it is not in something someone said or did. Saying “you made me angry or what they did made me angry or what they said made me angry” is just the ego’s way of escaping blame. Just as if you squeeze an orange softly or hard you get orange juice, whatever comes out of you was already inside of you. The seeds of anger hide in your wounds, in the places you have been hurt, in the places you have been broken and it grows like an infection when it is unattended. This is why when the Prophet (pbuh) was asked for advice he kept saying “Do not become angry.” (Bukhari) In other words, be vigilant over what you allow to grow within you. The following are three powerful tips you can use to help manage and lessen anger. 1️⃣ Being mindfulness: Every night reflect on your day and the moments you felt angry. Make the intention of bringing the remembrance of Allah to those situations in the future. Simply saying “Allah” silently when you feel angry can really help put things into perspective 2️⃣ Change positions: Based on a narration of the Prophet (pbuh) it’s helpful to stand if you are sitting or sit if you are standing or to take a cold shower if you are angry.
