Saw your post about the fandom, and wanted to stop by and say hi! It actually was nice to see that pop up on my dash, cause a lot of people are getting really negative about the waits, and I've seen it get kinda nasty. So seeing you be so genuine about enjoying it is really nice to see. I'm always open to talk about Sanders Sides, though, it's still one of my favorite things even after all this time.
ME TOO! I love it so much and I think... well as a Content Creator myself, I know how hard these past few years have been for me and I am not surprised at all that it's been hard for him and his team so I can be impatient and want more content but also... I can't be mad. A little peak into my brain coming and I apologize if that wasn't what you were looking for but-
I had to close commissions and my own patreon because I had to get a job that could actually support me, and had a TON of personal stuff happened to me and my family IRL that affected a lot of my online presence.
As a consequence I don't post art NEARLY as much as I used to and I found myself feeling EXTREMELY upset about it. I used to even livestream art, can you believe it? 8U
And I sat there worrying I'd never post art again because of the burnout and stress..... and I thought everyone who liked my stuff may leave. Because that's happened before- I was a product, a machine to pump out free stuff for people to enjoy, and when the product stopped coming, people just left. That's SO hard to face as a creator, ESPECIALLY when you are trying to GENUINELY provide your art and works pretty much for free and you're already going through traumatic stuff IRL behind the screen.
To see people getting SO angry with the content that HAS been provided hurts me more than the wait and it's not because I put the man on a pedestal it's because I humanized him. I had a shit few years and so did he. Would it have been nice for him to be like 'hey I need to go on a break for a while I'm sorry', hell yeah but I didn't either. I posted every so often about Going Through It and kicking myself privately because I could barely sketch on paper, much less muster the courage to do a digital piece, but I didn't tell people wehat I was going through until later and even then a lot of my life is private and I haven't disclosed stuff because... it's personal, it's private. Online space isn't supposed to be privy to all my secrets and stuff you know?
So when I see people nitpicking the plushie episode because it's also doubled as an ad for the toys, I want to growl and bite and hiss because it's STILL an episode with an actual PLOT; it's not like the crofters ads. FWSA, the cartoon one, is a 24 minute ASIDES video and was LITERALLY given to us during Covid when EVERYTHING ELSE was shut down. Have I Grown is an hilarious video that also somewhat recaps but less episode recap and more personal sides recaps- seeing how their current mental state is. The Wes Anderson one is literally a Season Recap episode. We got a fucking Janus Cover of an OtGW song and they're all in their casual clothes and that song is about pretending everything is ok just for a littler while and it's STILL technically plot related. WTIT is a fucking ASIDES video that's 28 minutes long AND HAS PLOT! AND THE CANON CONFIRMATION OF THE SUSPECTED ORANGE SIDE!!! Incorrect Quotes was a way for us to see them being silly and lighthearted and so is The Sides Need A Nice Day!
I just- that's a lot more content than I think people realize. Yes he has a full team but that doesn't stop the stress or the burnout, especially when half your fanbase is saying how terrible you're being not being faster.
Not to mention the bloopers and the Gavin Sides and the entire episodes of Roleslaying AND a cartoon therapy have all come out AND he was part of a few song collabs too.
I just.... I can't imagine going through the stresses I went through and how much it would hurt me to provide that much stuff and still have people angry. Do you know how much I've done since Covid? Not nearly as much in terms of BIG PROJECTS.
Sorry if this came off as a rant, I'm just so passionate about this show that I love to much! >//<

I really like your style. Was it intentionally designed, or did you just sort of fall into it over time?
I wouldnt say I intentionally designed it, as in I haven't sat down and Engineered a specific style, and instead it was more of me finding what I liked and wanted to incorporate into my style.
You could probably trace my style back to its influences. I used to draw really round shapes (I still do but like they were just ovals and circles...I guess i just like that shape) until I started watching How to Draw Anime tutorials in middleschool T-T (shoutout to Mark Crilley lol)
But when I first joined social media back in 2016, I found all these crazy artists with really unique styles that really influenced me. I was drawn towards artists like star_bite/prince_canary and rawrgyle/grassflu who have very dynamic expressions and character poses :0 (also they ended up working on a Batman and Superman project respectively and how wild is it that my icons from forever ago now work on projects aligned with my current interests!!!) And as you get exposed to different artists you get exposed to the many ways you can Draw things and along with your natural affinities towards certain things (such as me being attracted to Bright and Bold colors and Shaped styles) you kind of naturally build a style.
And part of that is also just having fun Trying things out? Sometimes I wouldnt even try to emulate their style as much as I tried to just...do what they were doing? As in making my ocs and putting them in fun poses, and doing color palette trends and such etc.
I hope that helped! If you're curious I can break down some of my style checkpoints over the years. As you can see there was still some major anime influence in my style back then when I first joined social media around 2015/2016
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Around that time, I also discovered the fandom around the Cartoons popular at the time, so I drifted away from anime and drew things like gravity falls/steven universe/otgw etc etc so it got Rounder I guess. I really liked how stylized characters looked and got obsessed with Shape Language and assigning characters distinct Shapes (box vs triangle vs circle etc). I also read a lot of webcomics and stuff like that so those played a part I guess
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then around 2019 I saw more artists drawing anime fanart with really sharp angles, which was completely different but so cool to look at so I tried to incorporate more angles into my art. I still had that very cartoony style but tried to push the Sharpness a tad bit more if you can tell. (I think the name of the artist I liked was jeluto?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think around this time I also focused a lot more on color as well and did a lot of paintings then and whenever I did more Painterly stuff I tended to switch Styles into something Less Cartoony T-T
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then by 2020, I revamped my ocs, actually tried to break down and study my own style and how I would draw them, and my style kinda fell into a mix of round vs sharp edges I guess. I tried to give myself Rules which I would follow when stylizing a character to keep it more consistent and intentional.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then in 2021 some of that Fun Part of stylizing characters into something more Cartoony kind of took a backseat as I focused more on Pose Work and Body Expression instead which I think helped a lot :0
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here's some recent stuff from the past year! Still very cartoony, but less so than 2016 I'd say, and still using really bold colors!! Still love my Soft Vs Hard angles B]
And overall have stronger pose work :) I'm sure my style will evolve as I learn more and experiment more, because one thing I want to focus on is backgrounds and environments :0

I'm always looking for good livebloggers, since you apparently follow some, who do you recommend?
Oh, that's a great question!
I have to preface my answer by saying that I don't have much information on livebloggers who are specifically liveblogging The Owl House (or Amphibia), because I'm not seeking out liveblogs for either show at the moment for obvious reasons. Generally, I look for liveblogs for shows I've already watched, such as SU. (SU in particular is the most popular subject for liveblogs as far as I've seen, so there are a lot of them!)
With that said, here are a few liveblogs I'd personally recommend, mostly either complete or ongoing. I'll just be highlighting the shows they've watched that I'm personally familiar with, but some of them have watched plenty more than what I mention.
(cut for length)
loreweaver-universe - as far as I know, this guy was one of the first SU livebloggers, if not the first. Has complete liveblogs of SU and OtGW, plus I think a couple others? One of the three (3) people I've ever seen liveblog Mob Psycho 100 (and the only one who’s still active), though has stalled indefinitely on that one at two episodes in as far as I can see. To be honest, I’m not... entirely sure what his schedule is at the moment? I'm not actively following him right now, because as far as I'm aware, he's currently liveblogging both The Owl House and Amphibia, and I’m trying to avoid spoilers.
But from what I can tell, he seems fairly active, with a couple of liveblogs every month or so, I think? Plus a bunch of game streams in between. Probably the liveblogger who’s remained active over the longest period of time that I've ever seen, so he’s definitely a good one to follow for consistency. That said, I think he’s pretty well-known as far as liveblogs go, so you probably already know about him! I’m mostly including him as a technicality.
zephyrthejester - currently appears to be on an indefinite hiatus, but did a lot of liveblogging back in the day scratch that, it looks as if they're currently active on their youtube channel! One of the few livebloggers whose episode rating system I’ve actually liked, as they rated episodes purely based on personal enjoyment. While they’re not actively liveblogging at the moment, they got through quite a few shows back when they were.
Has done a complete liveblog of SU, plus both FMA anime adaptations! Did a few other anime as well. On their let's play channel, they have a complete playthrough of the Ace Attorney trilogy, and they appear to have gotten started on Apollo Justice recently. It seems they’ve also done a challenge run of Hollow Knight. If you’re interested in let’s plays, or their completed liveblogs sound fun, check them out!
thelreads - unusually for most of the liveblogs I keep up with, they exclusively liveblog stuff through reading it rather than watching! Has liveblogs of BNHA and Spy x Family, plus a couple others. As far as I can tell, they're pretty active for the most part! This blog is a good one to follow if you’re interested in any of those series!
suworkbook - including this one on a technicality, since all of her liveblogs other than SU are on hold indefinitely. Other liveblogs can be found here: includes the beginnings of OtGW, A:tLA, and a couple others. Currently liveblogging SU only; active but updates pretty infrequently. I enjoy her observations a lot! If you feel that good liveblogging is worth the wait (as I do), she’s a great one to follow.
cheesy-kitten-liveblogs - exclusively a SU liveblog so far, and probably the one I’m following most actively, because they’re an active liveblog blogging a show that I know fairly consistently. They’re a good one to follow if you like SU liveblogs and great analysis! They’re just now finishing up Season 1, so it’s a great time to check them out.
I probably took some subconscious inspiration from them for my own blog’s URL and colours but I didn’t really think about it until I was already set on both
light blue just feels like a liveblog colour, you know?
There’s one other blog I can think of, but it’s not exactly a liveblog blog, so I’m going to leave that one out of this for now.
I’m certain there are other good liveblogs that I’ve forgotten about or simply am not aware of, so I’m extending an open invitation to anyone to add on to this post with any recommendations of your own!

ask game going around, ty for the tag @girlpinkdress 💕:) tagging anyone else who'd like to participate
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
3! (completely forgot about my lsts oneshot when i first posted this lmao)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
64,757
3. What fandoms do you write for?
hotd, pjo, and otgw (counting wips and tumblr-exclusives)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
i do not have that many lmao — but in order it's 'like the stars that shine' and 'lightning-stained skies' (though the last is really only still up just because i try to avoid deleting fic on principle 🥲)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
i try to! especially if it's one i can tell someone put a lot of effort into 💕 i often fall behind on replies though, like right now with my tumblr inbox 🥲
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
what endings?
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
again, what endings?? (my old-ass oneshot that's still on ff.net implying piper and conrad from the girl who could fly get together)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no! i've been very lucky in that realm
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
yes! mostly your basic abo, piv smut, though i also have some softcore typical m/m in my drafts :)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
yes, but it's the only one i'll ever write simply because i couldn't shake the concept of dipper, wirt, bill, and the beast from otgw and gravity falls as the most dysfunctional friend group ever 🥲 (i encountered the fandoms before i watched both shows) otherwise i don't really care for them lol
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
i don't think so! (if i do,,,, when i catch you ricky,,, 👹)
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
i have not! i'm very open to it, though, if anyone is ever able/interested and wants to reach out :)
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
no! tbh i don't think that'd jive well with my writing style 😅
14. What's your all-time favourite ship
hard to say! measuring by longest love, maybe piper and conrad from tgwcf 💕 honestly i'm always cycling between ships though — for a long time i would've said percabeth from pjo and i still have a soft spot for them :)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
my post-canon poetree slowburn for otgw 🥲 i'm thinking of maybe posting scattered oneshots so at least some of it can see the light of day
16. What are your writing strengths?
i usually say dialogue, and that's also feedback i've been given! but that's also what i frequently get insecure about lmao 😅
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
people's physical descriptions 🥲 always has been
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
i usually opt for just italicizing in english for fictional languages because i'm lazy lol, but i think writing it out in the other language looks better. i don't really care when i'm reading as long as there's a translation somewhere in the chapter :)
19. First fandom you wrote for?
percy jackson 🫶🏻
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
i guess lsts!

What do you think about original OTGW series? I personally like plot in general, characters and setting, but jeez, like 40% of the show is mindless nonsense filler for me
Please do come back and tell me which parts specifically you find to be filler, I'm curious to hear which episodes/parts specifically they are.
As for my thoughts, (on only the show, don't get me started on the comics) I think the show's a pretty good balance of levity and darker tones, there are two episodes I'm not a huge fan of, though I generally think that OTGW gets away with maintaining a pretty dark tone by having moments of silliness and joy to counter dawning horror. I can, however, break down my thoughts episode by episode.
Old Grist Mill: This episode is a solid opener, it introduces our characters, sets the tone for the series and brings us into this world where Wirt and Greg are as lost as we are. The core traits of Wirt, Greg, and the Woodsman are all shown, Wirt is an awkward older brother, Greg's a little kid, and the Woodsman is odd, attached to his lantern, but well-meaning.
Hard Times at the Husking Bee: The perfect episode. I think I've been pretty transparent that this episode is my favorite, and I have thoughts a laundry list long but I'll try to trim it down. This episode is probably the best example of that tightrope between levity and creepiness that OTGW walks, it is in turn, creepy and delightful, ("Murder? Oh, no, chuckle, not that. But for those other crimes," sums it up really well). It alternates between lighthearted with the opening of the episode, to much more sinister in the barn scene, to more relaxed as they work off their sentence, to the momentary terror of "We're digging our own graves.", to the releif of the skeletons coming to life, but you're left with the aftertaste of the realization, this is an afterlife. Yeah, I could talk about this episode for longer, but I'll cut it short.
School Town Follies: Ok, this one... I only have real issues with two of the episodes of OTGW, and this one's probably the main one. For one, this episode feels the least narratively cohesive with the rest of the show, not just in tone, but also the way it gets told. In every other episode a problem is introduced at the beginning of the episode that gets solved/semi-resolved by the end of the episode, but not this one. Most of the episodes also have their own climatic incident, and unfortunately, the gorilla attack doesn't really have the same narrative weight as say, Wirt riding out of the dark lantern to save Beatrice or "Maybe you're digging your own graves!". However, I will give this episode credit, it build's Wirt and Beatrice's relationship, and shows Beatrice Wirt's not just a pushover, and characterization wise, this episode's so important to their relationship, being that its the Start of Beatrice getting attached to the boys.
Songs of the Dark Lantern: I think one of the biggest strengths of the Beast as a villain is that despite not making many appearances, he still presides over the story, he's woven into everything even when he's not there, and it gives you the impression he's really something to be feared. (Maybe that's why I have such an issue with School Town Follies, since there's no reminder of our series' main antagonist) This episode is emblematic of that, this is the first time anyone but the woodsman speaks of the beast and it gives suddenly makes him not just the ramblings of a weird old man, but a force to be feared, and this coupled with the singing in the woods helps to really drive home that there really is a monster in the woods. This episode is also really strong for Wirt, at this point we don't know about Sara yet, but the show gives us little hints with the Lover's Song, not to mention we find out why Wirt resents his little brother so much. This episode is a lot of exposition, with just a little action at the end and another confrontation with the woodsman, but its very well balanced and woven into the story.
Mad Love: This is an excellent episode, its easy to be distracted by the Tea barons and Fred, but the scene in the closet with Wirt and Beatrice is the crowning achievement of this episode. Not only do we get a look into Wirt's character, what motivates him, what he's really like, and it turns out, he's just some guy, just a teenager with teenage problems. We also learn that Beatrice used to be human (Though there were hints earlier) and what motivates her. This scene is vital because it's the strongest bonding moment between Beatrice and Wirt, and Beatrice, just like the audience (who already had some clue) realizes Wirt's just some guy, sweet, well meaning and awkward, and some guy. And its hard to send a guy to his maybe-death when you start to see him as a person rather than a way out.
Lullaby In Frog Land: I know I've mostly just been saying these episodes are great, but this is a great episode. I've seen this episode get written off as filler before but I'm going to strongly disagree. The first half of this episode set on the Ferry sets a good tone. It's also, one of the last truly lighthearted segments before the show takes a turn to the dark(er). Wirt and Greg (but mostly Wirt) are finally somewhere semi-safe, home is within their grasp, and they can relax, goof off, because the threat of the beast/being lost has receded. Beatrice is not feeling so sunny, she feels guilty, worried, because despite her best efforts, she's gotten attached to the boys, and she doesn't feel great about handing them off to Adelaide, the show even shows her trying to talk Wirt out of it, and I think that contrast between Wirt's cheer and Beatrice's guilt is an excellent set up for Adelaide. Jason Funderberker (Frog)'s song is one of the best in the series and adds to the dreamlike quality of the Unknown.
And then, in the same episode, Adelaide. Beatrice's line about thinking she just wanted kids to do yardwork is one of my favorites in the show, because it mirror's the woodsman's "I didn't know!" about edelwood. If Beatrice really thought that was all Adelaide wanted, she wouldn't feel so guilty, she wouldn't go to call off the deal before Wirt and Greg could get there, but she's been willfully ignoring that, trying to justify it to herself, and we know why now too, because Beatrice needs the scissors to make her family human, and it was so much easier when she didn't really know the boys, they were just some mark to con, but she can't ignore it any further. Beatrice's betrayal is also what makes Wirt start his slide into melancholy which makes him an easy target for the Beast in the coming episodes, honestly, yeah, just a great episode.
The Ringing of the Bell: Alright I'll come out and say it, I'm biased towards this episode. This episode definitely doesn't have the same narrative weight as its 3 predecessors, but I like it anyway. Lorna has so much potential and I could talk about her for hours, but I think the main draw of this episode is the way it parallels episode one. To cut a long comparison short, the boys are lost, the monster they meet in the first episode turns out to be a harmless dog, the kindly(?) woodsman eventually turns out to be someone they fear, and in this episode, the boys are lost, Wirt tries to be a leader and ignore the fact Beatrice just betrayed them, they meet a young woman who seems harmless and her terrifying Auntie, who in turn turn out to be a cannibal and her well meaning care taker. But the end of this episode is its strong point, with their narrow escape and Beatrice's betrayal, Wirt has started to give up hope (The very thing that the woodsman warned him not to do) in a very realistic way for a teenager. In the end , the woodsman's attempt to save the boys, the way he, like Beatrice is no longer able to ignore the cost of keeping his "daughter"'s soul lit pushes us closer to our inevitable climax. And really, the reminder of our main antagnonist speaks for itself:
"There is only me, there is only my way, there is only the forest, and there is only surrender"
Babes in the Wood: I don't like this episode. Actually, I'll amend that, I don't like the cloud city portion.
The opening of this episode has what I think is one of the best depictions of mealoncholy I've ever seen in an animated show. Wirt's withdrawn nature, he's clearly wrapped up in his own head, tired of Greg and the forest and the reminder of anything else. Wirt lashes out and though I havent mentioned Greg much this is a good episode for his characterization. Greg reacts like a young child, he's not unaffected by Wirt, but he doesnt react the way another teenager might.
And then... Cloud City, look, I understand why this section is here, its the last truly lighthearted section in the show, but I personally have never been a fan of it, so I'm going to breeze past most of it and talk about the one part I actually like, Greg's wish. Greg's wish is another one of my favorite peices of the show because even if we don't know exactly what he wished for, we can get the gist of it, but moreso its what he doesn't wish for that impresses me. Throughout the show, Greg wishes for a magic tiger, or to become a magic tiger, thats one of the thing he asks Beatrice for when she says she owes him a favor, thats what he tries to command Lorna to turn into when he has the bell, he brings it up a lot, but when he finally gets given the opportunity for a magic wish, he uses it selflessly, like a proper leader. It's very sweet.
The end of this episode is also great (I really don't give this episode enough credit I guess) with Greg walking off with the Beast in the first time one of our protagonists interacts with him, Greg selflessly sacrifices himself and allows Wirt to go on and Wirt wakes up, and actually acts like the brother he should be running after Greg before falling into the lake.
Into the Unknown: Arguably the best episode narrative wise, we finally are given the context for our story, and it makes everything else fall into place, why Wirt treats Greg the way he does, why Wirt is the way he is (Spoiler, its because he's a teenager, and teenagers are like that) we are introduced to Sara, and the episode balances its internal emotional stakes with the rest of the show, not serving to lower or distract from what's at stake in the unknown, but instead expanding on it clarifying, solidifying our reason we want Wirt to make it back home.
The Unknown: What do I say about this episode that hasn't been said before, it nails every plot beat. From Beatrice caring for Wirt enough to entrust him to her family to "I was never any good to him alive", to Wirt's love, his apologies to Greg, to Wirt standing before the Beast, his voice cracking, but not cowering.
I know the potential for Wirt to blow out the lantern is immense, but within the show itself, I like it better that the Woodsman blows out the lantern. In OTGW, everyone's got a torch to burn, their own personal burden/goal. Beatrice's is her family, Greg's is the rock he stole, the Woodsman's is the lantern/his grief, and Wirt's, its his teenage love yes , but here, where there's no one else to look after him, Wirt's is Greg. They have their own burdens to bear, to look after, and they have to make sacrifices, to decide whether hurting other people is worth their goal. The Lantern is the Woodsman's burden, his to repent for, his to extinguish, so Wirt leaves it to him and Wirt takes on his own responsibility, taking care of Greg.
Lantern scene aside, this episode's simply good, that's all there is too it.
Its a good show, it has some issues, but pacing wise at least? I think it does pretty well.

💢 Write about a moment of conflict of argument between you and your villain F/O. (for the beast from OTGW)
Villain f/o writing prompts
"No, absolutely not, you do not get to turn Giri into a tree!"
"And why not?" The Beast replied, tilting his head to one side. "It's not as though it would be killing him. He's already dead."
"Already dead? He's not dead!" Rose snapped back. "He was, once, but so were you! And a bunch of other people here. He's alive now, and I care about him!"
"But you also care about me, right?" Beast pressured her.
"Of course I do," she replied with a sigh. "But I know you as well. I know you don't really need Edelwood oil as long as there's something else your soul can burn, and it's well taken care of in the fireplace. Besides, if you really want to do your thing, there's other places you can do that! I don't care if you're menacing the people of the Unknown or something. Just leave the other people I love out of your hunting."
Beast chuckled. "You know I can't make that promise," he replied, almost teasingly. "You should know that you're the only one I grant safe passage through my forest to. If you want to keep the others safe from me, my love, keep them indoors."
"Sometimes I wonder why I let you haunt this area," muttered Rose, shaking her head.
"Because you care for me too much to extinguish my soul," the Beast said. "Don't tell me you didn't realize what you were getting into when you took a liking to me."
"I should have considered it," Rose said. "Love makes fools of us all, I guess. And that includes you, since I've been an easy meal since day one."
The Beast laughed. "Just because I haven't done it yet doesn't mean I never will..."

🔥 over the garden wall! c:
Send Me a 🔥+ a Topic, and I’ll Tell You My Honest Opinion About It
it's really good! and i think because it's so good i don't have that many thoughts about it. i binged it all once a couple of years ago and haven't really had an inkling to revisit it since, but maybe one day.
one huge thing i love about OTGW is the fact it is whole heartedly an american fairy tale. i think it captures the spirit of something like the wizard of oz (the book moreso than the movie, but still) incredibly well, and perhaps even better than something on the page can. i think for something to be "american" it has to be new in some way... and what's more "new media" than animation for television? that in tandem with all its other wonderful elements i think makes it such an effective story. the medium absolutely helps convey it to the fullest extent!

saw a post yesterday asking for people to reblog and put in the tags what they think the best song is, not favorite, best.
and i didn't reblog it because man idk. but THEN. i realized.
it's Ms Langtree's Lament from the Over the Garden Wall ost.
lyrically, it's one of my favorite songs i've ever heard. the lyrics are so fun and clever and done in such a great way.
if you haven't heard the song, it's a song written in the perspective of a school teacher who has just been ditched by the love of her life, 'Jimmy B'. Jimmy didn't actually leave her he was just trapped in a gorilla costume but that's not important to the song
and it's written like an educational school song, going through the alphabet and then some numbers/math at the end. but the way they go through the alphabet, sometimes making sense, sometimes throwing a mentioned letter in between some lyrics, is just so fun! like, ok, here's one of my favorite parts:
You, "Y," not "U" have got to understand The value of a woman's heart ("V") Why "W," not "Y" did you think it was fine To "X" me from the start?
it's purposefully a little confusing when you listen to it but she is also quickly explaining where letters fit in the alphabet and it has a very whimsical cadence to it... i personally think it's a perfect way to show a mix of a woman who is upset and venting about it with a woman who is a school teacher. she's literally venting to her kids about her love life, but trying to disguise it in an educational song. i think we've all had at least one teacher who has gotten a little too into their personal life during class. i know this teacher, i've been in this class. it's genius.
another of my favorite parts is right near the end:
1 is the number of men I've loved And 2 is the times I'll say it's you (it's you)
i haven't got much commentary for it, but i just love it so much i had to put it here. the emotion in the second 'it's you' really gets me... which leads into another reason why this song is the best:
the singer!!!!
her name is Janet Klein, and if you read the description on the youtube video posted by CN for this song, you can see a short commentary from the show creator saying this song was specifically written for her to perform.
and she fuckin kills it. you can tell this was made for her! they emotion she puts into certain lyrics, the little sighs at times, the way she stresses some letters... you can hear her rolling her eyes, you can hear her deflate with sadness, you can hear her gazing longingly off into the distance at the end. i'm in love with her singing this song.
anyway. i feel like i could talk about this song for hours lmao. the OTGW ost is probably my favorite ost ever, and this is my favorite song from it, so ya know :)

Wirt’s gift from the Fairies
(OTGW) (Written on October 10th, 2020)
Wirt can't sleep one night in the woods with his brother Greg and Beatrice. Greg offers to sing, which Wirt initially refuses, but
reluctantly agrees to after Greg insists. The little boy begins to hum, surprisingly rather in tune...But, Greg's lullaby increases in power
when a group of happy-go-lucky fairies joins in and, against all odds, makes Wirt doze off, to the amusement of Beatrice.
To say that Wirt was annoyed was an under-statement. He was more like, extremely cross. They had been walking for goodness know how long, they still had no idea how far they were and to top it all, night was falling. Which meant another freezing night for him, while he could have been sleeping in his nice, warm bed back home, instead and it was all because of that darn Greg!
“Wirt, you okay?”, asked his bird friend, Beatrice.
To her surprise, he did not complain or panic, or just huffed as usual, but he turned around with a venomous grin.
“I’m splendid! Thank you very much!”
Greg, Wirt’s younger half-brother was just catching up to the bird and his sibling. He jumped at the harsh, angry tone of the latter. That certainly was not like him to do that.
“Gee whiz, what’s the matter with Wirt, Beatrice?”
“I don’t know, Greg. I’ve never seen him this mad, before…”
Greg and Beatrice lowered their head, uncomfortable, but unwilling to say anything more, lest Wirt become more upset…
(TIMESKIP)
The sun was now nearly gone and Wirt, while still crossed, was a little less cranky than earlier. He found a rather sturdy, hollow enough tree for him and his friends to sleep at its feet. After the trio sat down and sighed, finally resting after walking so long, Beatrice noticed something worrying. Dark circles were evident under Wirt’s worn out eyes. Could it be why he had snapped? Gosh, maybe she should not have teased him so much…
Greg was sighing happily after another fun day, but his smile faded when he saw the concerned look of Beatrice. Looking towards where she was looking, he saw his brother sitting sadly, arms around his knees, a clear look of disappointment upon his features.
The smaller plumb boy with a teapot for a hat hesitantly scooted closer to Wirt, he looked to his frog for confirmation that it was a good idea, to which the latter nodded “yes”.
“Wirt…What’s wrong? Are you sad?”
Wirt looked down at him, raising an eyebrow. He seemed to be unsure as to whether he should tell Greg or not. He ended sighing forlornly, giving in.
“I AM sad, Greg. I just…miss our home so much…I wish I could just be sleeping in my nice, warm bed…Not in this freezing forest…Where we could get swallowed whole…And I can’t believe I haven’t found our house, yet…Our parents must be worried sick…”, he sighed, a small tear rolling down his face.
“Oh…”, said Greg.
He lied himself against Wirt, deep in thoughts. But soon enough, his beam had returned.
“Hey, I got it, how about I sing a lullaby to you?”
“What?”
“A lullaby! Like Mommy sang to me before when I couldn’t sleep!”
Wirt scoffed, “Don’t be silly, Greg! I’m not a baby!”
“Well, pretend you are one, that way, I can sing to you and you can dream sweet! Come on…”, answered Greg with utter optimism, making puppy eyes…
Wirt pouted, conflicted and annoyed. Not only was he incompetent to get the both of them home, but now, he was the one offered a lullaby! That took the cake! Still…he really could use some sleep (Though he doubted Greg’s idea would really do the trick)…And maybe this could at the very least, take his mind off their dire situation, just for a little while.
He sighed, slightly annoyed, “Fine…”
And thus, Greg happily plopped down on his bottom right besides his stepbrother…Wirt frowned in dejectedly and in annoyance, in anticipation of a horrid, out-of-tune ditty…But he was caught off-guard when Greg began to hum…
“Loo-loo-loo-loo…
Loo-loo-loo-loo…
Loo-loo-loo-loo-loo-loo-loo, loo…
Loo…Loo loo loo loo…Loo-loo-loo, loo-loo-loo, loo…”
Wirt’s frown lessened as his little brother crooned on…It was actually rather cute…That certainly wasn’t going to help him fall asleep, but, hey, it was the thought that counted…
Beatrice couldn’t help but smirk a little. Wirt may have been totally stubborn sometimes…But…she had to admit that right now, that very stubbornness was cute.
Unbeknownst to the trio lying at the foot of the tree, Greg’s song had attracted the attention of wood creatures…But thankfully, not the scary ones…
A group of woodland fairies of various pastel colours peeked from a dead tree on the ground…They smiled at the pretty little song. It wasn’t everyday that humans got lost in these parts of the forest. And what the small, plumb little human was doing looked so much fun…
Wirt suddenly jumped as he heard foreign voices. Instinctively, he opened his eyes, darting around. He gasped as he saw many pastel-coloured, glowing fairies harmonizing with Greg. First, it was one voice, then another and another…He made a move to sit up and defend himself, but Greg quickly and gently pushed on his shoulder, making him gently lie back down.
“Don’t worry, Wirt, they’re my new friends. And they want to help you…Just relax and close your pretty sleepy eyes…’’, he said sweetly as he gently tried to close Wirt’s eyelids by touching them.
Wirt blushed a little. He wasn’t sure if it was out of embarrassment or out of tenderness. He closed his eyes, folding his arms under his cheek and snuggled in, trying to make himself more comfortable. With eyes closed, the ditty was beginning to sound soothing…Especially with all those voices singing in a canon… He sighed, more at ease and relaxed.
But suddenly…A bright, multicoloured light penetrated his closed eyelids…He frowned a little, peeking.
He gasped, again. The fairies were closer now. All around him, in fact, holding hands and holding’s Greg’s hands as well. Greg seemed not the least bit bothered by it all as he was proudly humming still. Beatrice was on Greg’s shoulder, looking puzzled. But she hesitantly joined in the song when Greg gave her an encouraging smile. But then, Wirt gasped yet again as he looked down. He was glowing!
Just before he could freak out, though, he suddenly felt…A thick, heavy blanket…of tiredness…slowly and ever so gently settling on his entire body…Before he knew it, Wirt was feeling very warm…And oh so tired…It was as if every moment in which he had been stressed out, every nearly sleepless night in these woods, all of his scary previous incidents…Were now gently engulfing him in welcoming heaviness, as if he were slowly sinking into thick, warm molasse.
And yet, with every second passing by, he was less and less disturbed by the strange phenomenon…In fact…It was so…cozy…And rejuvenating…And…
Wirt gave out a deep, mellow yawn before he could finish his thought…He smacked his lips and “Hmmmed“ contently, curling up more into a ball…Whatever…These fairies…were doing…It was so…warm and…peaceful…Ssoo..goood…Like…hooome…
Abruptly, but still very sleepily, Wirt registered the presence of a soft, pleasant weigh on his forehead. He opened one heavy eye and looked up. His little brother was stroking his forehead and hair, smiling cutely.
Greg had thought that, since Mommy always made him fall asleep by stroking his hair, back home, then Wirt was bound to fall asleep as well this way.
“Goodnight, Wirt, sleep tight, don’t let the wood bugs bite…Sugary dreams…”
Wirt, for the first time since this evening, smiled adorably, all tuckered out, but incredibly merry, all at once…
“Niight…Greeeg…” he yawned grandly and drunkenly. And at last, he slipped into Morpheus’s sweet embrace, snuggling his young face into his folded arms. Before long, he was breathing serenely and evenly. The fairy folks’ magical song was still making his body glow with many pastel colours and it would glow just so, in this lovely, almost kaleidoscopic manner until morning.
The fairies kept singing their little canon with Greg for a little longer. Then, one by one, the fairies stopped singing, until there was only Greg. He sang the last notes with his eyes closed, smiling.
Then, Greg opened his eyes and thanked his new fairy pals and they giggled. Even Beatrice was feeling quite sleepy after singing the magic song for so long…
And thus…a little while later, anyone who would have wandered in these parts of the woods, would have come across a rather peculiarly beautiful sight:
A teenager boy in a cape and pointed hat…Cozily sleeping and glowing with pastel colours. An arm around most likely his little brother, the latter holding a big frog. A bluebird sleeping snuggled in the older boy’s brown hair, between the boy’s red coned hat and his head. But what would be most interesting to watch, here…Would be the many sleeping fairies surrounding the trio.
THE END

Saw ur reblog so uh 4, 16, 25, 35 and 39, ITS ALOT I KNOW BUT IM JUST REALLY CURIOUS, and i wanna learn from you cause you're one of my faves😭😭😭
-🦋
I'm happy to answer! (And thank you, you're literally so sweet my dude! :))
4.) Q: What's a word that makes me go feral?
A: Hissed. I love how it can imply a very serious scene while also reminding me of a cat- like 'Hunter hissed' could mean he's in pain, but it could also mean he makes cat sounds when angered. It's just very amusing to me. My other top word is dreary, simply because of my love for rain, clouds, and the cozy gloom of writing on a dreary afternoon...(I know, I'm being overly poetic-)
16.) Q: What's the weirdest thing I've used as a bookmark?
A: Probably steampunk goggles. Or maybe that one steampunk Monster High doll. In case you couldn't tell, I like steampunk stuff.
25.) Q: What is a weird hyper-specific detail I know about one of my characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
A: Darling, I have a whole list! But to spare your time, I'll just share a few.
My OC, Finn Basilton, wears lipgloss instead of chapstick. He says it's more fun to wear, but would never ever tell anyone. It's like a really dumb secret.
Romina Aster -another OC- really wants a motorcycle. She'll get one someday, but long after the story is over.
(Y/N) in 'Masks and Bets' is much more focused on magic than combat. I also like to think their dad is a bard, but that's just because my dad would probably be a bard. (He has a huge collection of instruments and a personality like Gomez Addams. He'd love to be a bard.)
35.) Q: What's my favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?
A: Whenever people say "don't use the word 'said'" I just...feel mental pain. 'Said' is an invisible word, much like 'he, she, they, etc...'. When you use another word, you have to mean it, because it isn't invisible. It stand out and means something, which is great in certain contexts, buuut.....
'"Hi, how are you?" She mumbled happily' vs '"Hi, how are you?" She said'
I can't stand re-reading my old works where I'd misuse words like 'groaned' or 'muttered'- just use 'said'. It's okay to use 'said'.
39.) A: What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?
Q: Honestly, just the fact that I get ideas. Like, I'll have writers block, but then I'll see an awesome line of dialogue in a twine game and will just...itch to write! I have ADHD so motivation can be a huge problem, but I have too many ideas to contain in my head- like, you know when you find a really cool fact and just...tell it to everyone? (No? Just me?) Because if you do, then that's how writing is for me.
However. Sometimes I just can't get over a hurdle, or I'll hate how a story is going. For instance, my OtGW fic. I still love the fic, but I've learned to be okay with putting it on the shelf for a bit. I work on rewriting it slowly but surely, and maybe by next Halloween, 'Fleeting Austice' will finally be finished satisfactorily. In other words, I just give myself some grace and be okay with being a bit slow. At least I'm writing, even if it's just one sentence a day! I read some quote by Neil Gaiman- I don't recall the exact words, but it was something like 'Inspiration won't make you a writer, dedication will.' So when I'm miserable and uninspired, I just...add another word.
And *big secret*- 'An Oath to Keep' was one of the stories I struggled with. I was completely devoid of inspiration and absolutely sick of it- And I wasn't even past a thousand words. But I painstakingly added more, bit by bit- not even all on my laptop even! I wrote the face reveal scene on my notes app at a family diner because I was bored, and was later pleased to find out that it fixed a few plotholes and added a cool plotpoint- that was how I got the everlasting oath idea in the first place! I'm still not totally pleased with how it turned out, but that leads into my last bit of advice-
You're pretty much always going to be your own harshest critic. I'm 85% sure we all do that. But glaring problems through an author's eyes....usually aren't actually problems. Keep that in mind.
TL,DR: Just keep writing, just keep writing, just keep writing writing writing....
*******
Thanks for asking! Sorry for how long the last answer was, I hope you find some advice that might help you!

💕 -> what is an unpopular ship that you like?
aaa okay this is a weird one, but i really do like pinescone. it's not that unpopular, but like. idk. i know they're from two completely seperate shows but i think that they really would get along and also something interesting is that even though they're technically 13 and 14 in their shows respectively, people often draw them meeting in college which i think is a really cool thing to think about and also how they would have met. it also gets especially interesting when you add beast wirt and bipper into the mix, because if beast wirt was canon and dipper ever died, he would meet wirt in the unknown which i think is really cool and also i found a really really really good comic about that (not pinescone, just dipper ending up in the unknown) :)) it's also interesting to think about because canonically wirt is back in the unknown everytime he sleeps (this applies to greg as well) which is just so cool (can you tell i love the otgw comics so so so much especially distillitoria)
i would go on for a very long time about the otgw comics because i'm actually obsessed with distillitoria and circus friends but i don't know if you've read them and/or want to hear about them---
the other one is that i do really like goldric. i don't necessarily ship it (i did for a while but it was just to like spite huntlow so...) but it's the ship between edric blight and hunter deamonne :). i actually do really like their dynamic and think that if they every *cough* met more than once *cough cough* they would like. get along pretty well it would just take them a while which also makes for a good ship and i should probably stop talking before the entire fandom comes for me but yeah. i like them :)

fanfic ask!! 3, 7, 24
3. Tell me about one of your fics you think is underrated / underappreciated.
it's hard to gauge what counts as underrated based on fandom. for instance, my beyonders fic has the lowest amount of hits/kudos of all my fics, but the beyonders fandom is so small that i don't really feel like people are sleeping on it? and i never could judge how my fics were faring in the bigger fandom that shall not be named because they have so much more attention than stuff for my other fandoms, generally, but all the time people when they recced my fics on reddit were like ohhhh this author is so underrated and. honestly. i kind of hated that. i do think there were some fics of mine for that fandom that didn't get as much attention as some of my others when they were better (imo), and that would be both of my christmas fics, left of the dial, and the otgw au. i would say planetarium stickers but enough people have told me incredibly complimentary things about it that i feel like the point got across, lol. as for other fandoms i think everyone should watch national treasure and read beyonders so they can read three's a crowd and the swing of things because i'm very proud of them.
7. Is there a character or ship you'd love to write for, but haven't yet?
GOD yes. i really want to write some tiva from ncis, i'm working on a couple jason and ferrin fics obviously, and i desperately need to write locklyle at some point because they are haunting me this week. very much need to write a mia winters fic, the marilyn batson fic, and i'd love to write for megstine from phantom of the opera if i can. maybe clois, and maybe joel from the last of us too. and of course, dorothy gale.
24. What are some of your favourite tropes?
everyone always asks this and every time i can never think of tropes that aren't typical fanfic romance tropes, none of which i enjoy. so let me just make shit up. love near-death experiences, love died and came back, love when a character overexerts themself in a fight/protecting someone else and collapses afterwards (this is also fun if it involves hiding a wound), love hurt/comfort, all that. love when the spy meant to betray you actually becomes your friend and you get the whole "as time went on i stopped pretending" bit. give me ALL of that please.

October 10: OTGW 1-4
I was really tired again today, unsurprisingly, literally almost fell asleep at my desk; it was that bad. I got myself home and meant to take like a 40 minute nap and then it was 3 hours later. Like I don't remember turning off my alarm or anything. I think I was having quite weird/intense dreams though I don't remember them.
Anyway, got an unsatisfying dinner and now I need to make tomorrow's lunch and take a shower and go back to bed ASAP.
Over dinner, continued my first time watch of Over the Garden Wall. Literally every year since I joined tumblr I've been telling myself to Watch the Thing and I never have. I really didn't know what to expect, other than the aesthetic which is obviously what I see around here, but I'm really enjoying it even more than I thought I would. I knew it would be beautiful and autumnal and it is. But it's also weird, surprisingly spooky and dark for a Cartoon Network show, and endearing in its characters.
I've seen the first four episodes so far. Definitely Ep 2 is my favorite so far and I don't honestly think anything subsequent will top it. I liked the spookiness of the first two episodes more than the musical-ness of the next two, but they were still cute and Ep 3, with the animal school, was really quite endearing, with just enough strangeness to it to keep with the overall vibe.
I like that it started out with just 'we're in the woods and we're lost' no exposition, no context--it feels very much like a dream, in a way. You know from that alone that you're in a place with no rules because generally people do know why hey are in the places they are. So, now, anything can happen here.
Aesthetically, it reminds me both of CN shows of my childhood, specifically in its characters and their style of humor, but also of older books and media, sort of Wind in the Willows with the talking animals, but with an added spooky quality. Not like pastoral England but like... perpetual autumn fairy tale. But then there's also a surreal and again dream-like quality where things happen in a completely unexpected and unpredictable way while still sticking to archetypes--hero's journey...literally everything in the Tavern of Singing Archetypes (side note: the highwayman song was pretty good), Jane-Eyre-style orphanage/school, the threatening Beast in the woods, etc. Except it's animals and pumpkins and skeletons and time has no meaning and every sentient being just accepts the world around it without question in a way not unlike children do, because they discern certain rules about the environment but not the reasons for them.
I probably have some other thoughts rattling around in there (my brain) but I'm just so tired. I'm so tired. I really wanted to make a crisp tomorrow and I guess I could still do that (if I get enough sleep tonight and feel better) but I didn't do any of the prep work like cleaning my kitchen today... I don't know. Get sleep first I guess.

otgw expert! i require your help on this! do you think that the beast's soul could be 'distributed' across multiple lanterns? like a half goes to the woodsman, a half to enoch or whoever he wanted..
and! if i may ask another question! do you think the beast's soul is only what's in the lantern, or whatever the fire of the lantern catches on? say you light a house with the beasts lantern, arson style! would the beast's soul only be the lantern still or all of the fire?
hope i worded both alright ! they're a bit similar. have a good day otgw expert!
Ok, so I usually have very decisive rules about how I play the OTGW universe when I write it, and most questions are things I've already thought about in great detail, but these aren't, so let's work through it.
Let's deal with the second question first, to be clear, I think you can make an argument for both cases. I lean more towards the fire is his soul, and the lantern is just a vessel, just on personal preference. But if I get too into the weeds in the Beast as a metaphor for responsibility becoming an obsession, it makes more sense that as long as there's a fire in the lantern the Beast lives.
So the answer, sorry if it's not very satisfying, is how are you treating the Beast for the purpose of the story? Is he an individual, a creature existing in a world, or is he a physical representation of a character's struggle. But, if you split it down the middle, and make the Unknown purgatory and the Beast both a representation and also a creature in his own right, perhaps drawn to the obsessed? you can make your case either way, he's the fire burning in the orchard, or maybe he's the pinprick of light trapped in the lantern.
What's most interesting for the individual story? That's the answer.
That first question is trickier, because, within the idea that the soul is the fire inside the lantern, there's no obvious reason the Beast's soul can't be split up. It seems kind of stupid not to in that case.
In OTGW the Beast is actively trying to get his lantern back from the Woodsman, and he absolutely dies when the lantern goes out, so you could make the argument that the lantern had the last remaining piece of his soul and he was trying to retrieve it to safely spread his soul, but there's not really anything else supporting it, and the song in the tavern almost seems to point against it.
So let's put aside that for a moment and try to reverse engeneer why the Beast can't split his soul up. Perhaps it's in some way uncomfortable, already having your soul outside of your body is probably disorienting, but two, or more? I don't think the Beast's strength is tied to the size of his fire, because, why a lantern then? So it's more likely tied to his identity, or sense of it. Maybe being split up fundamentally changes him, he's no longer the Beast if his soul isn't all together, perhaps not even literally, that's just his perception. He's old, he's stubborn, there's a lot about him that's not super logical, but if it's something he views as a critical piece of himself, he wouldn't, even if it would be for his own good.
If you're telling a story about a calculating monster that's ensured he's unkillable, a monster striving against human means to outlast, it's in multiple lanterns. Or is it the story about an inescapable monster, a perceived unstoppable force, actually tied to the fragile life of a flame? Then the lantern alone.
Apologies that I can't give any really solid answers besides "It depends what kind of a story you're telling". I guess just ask: Does it fit the story's themes narratively? Does it make the story more interesting this way? Is it funny?
If the answer is yes to any of those, that's what I use to decide on a case by case basis, and it's worked so far.
