Thanks to @/ilikedyourablogithere for finding these concept art pieces on ArtStation!

I needed to know what is written. Thus, through the power of my undergrad degree (linguistics), 2 years of Chinese (mandarin), 5 years of Japanese, google translate, and lots of google research, I present these translations in English.

WARNING: Some phrases translated awkwardly in English (usually due to vocabulary) so I translated what I best thought was the intent of the sentence. I am an avid supporter of translating to make it feel natural, first and foremost, and then translating the meanings.

With that being said, I want to reiterate I am not a native speaker of Mandarin, I just really love to research and thought there’d be some lore tidbits.

And I was right

You should be able to click on the picture and zoom in to see the words, but here are the phrases anyway, because I wanted to explain some of my thought process on each translation. If anyone speaks fluent Mandarin and English and finds an egregious error in my translations, please let me know and I’ll correct it!

[ Original Chinese will be in brackets ] The translation will be in normal font. Any notes will be bolded. Any commentary will be italicised.

ODETTE [Skadi Esper]:

1. [ 总是看起来很凶但自己没有意识 ] Always looks fierce, but doesn’t realise it

2. [ 作为猎户的女儿习惯性的保养猎具 ] As the daughter of Orion, she habitually maintains her hunting gear. Google translate tried to translate this to “As the habitual maintenance hunting gear of the daughter of the Orion”, but, as you can read, that don’t make no sense. Fortunately, this is where my vague recollection of Mandarin grammar and basic vocabulary comes in. This is one of the sentences I tried to make sound natural. This was the sentence that made me translate everything because I recognised the characters for daughter and was intrigued as to what it was referring to. Who would’ve guessed the Great Hunter Orion’s esper is Odette’s dad! :O EDIT 31.Dec.2022: Thanks to @/trikis-turntables for clarifying 猎户的女儿! It just means “hunter’s daughter”. Hunter is used to refer to Orion. I’m still gonna headcanon that her dad is Orion’s esper tho until proven otherwise ;P

3. [ 经常被别人拜托速冻饮料 ] She’s often asked to quickly freeze drinks. “速冻饮料”, sùdòng yǐnliào, means frozen drinks so this could also be translated as “Other’s ask her to make quick frozen drinks”. I chose the former translation because, in American English especially, “frozen drinks” usually refer to slushies, a beverage made by blending flavoured syrup (or juice) with a whole bunch of ice. Odette isn’t making slushies, she’s just freezing drinks to make them cold again. I’m American, so I went with the translation that made sense in that context.

4. [ 保持着野营狩猎的习惯 ] She keeps up a habit of hunting and camping. Was on the fence with this translation, as I couldn’t tell if this was a PSA to the readers or speaking through her perspective. Google translated this as “Maintain the habit of camping and hunting” which is a logical sentence, but it felt off to me. I ultimately went with the reading of it being Odette’s perspective to keep these translations consistent. Oh, I should also mention now that the original Mandarin does not have any pronouns and often lacks specific subject indicators, so forgive me if some of these translations are incorrect because I wasn’t aware of the correct subject.

5. [ 使用终极技能时的样子 ] How she looks using her ultimate skill.

NARMER [Ra Esper]:

1. [ 不自觉地展现出大佬气质 ] Subconsciously showing the temperament of a triad boss. Took some liberties with getting the intent behind the sentence. 大佬, dà lǎo, literally means “big guy”, with 佬, lǎo, containing the character ( 老 ) for aged/matured/old. This character is used for boss- 老板, lǎo bǎn- so google translates it to “big boss”. However, using context clues (specifically how Narmer is posed against the dark backdrop, looking sort of sinister), I researched it further and found that this is also a term used for gangster! I decided to combine both, to really indicate that Narmer is oozing power and authority, and poses as if he’s got an underground network working for him, that may or may not deal with shady business. This is why the English translation specifies “triad boss”. The word for the Triad is NOT in the original Mandarin.

2. [ 已经习惯了生活中有神性的帮助 ] I am used to having divine help in my life. Once again, no specified pronouns. Took the liberty that this is from Narmer’s perspective.

3. [ 经常阅读各种书籍 ] Often reads various books.

4. [ 终极技能释放时的效果 ] The impact of his ultimate skill. Another awkwardly phrased sentence. 效果, xiàoguǒ, means “effect”, specifically in reference to an action being performed, but using that word in this sentence sounds strange. However, after some research (Lord bless Reverso, a site that puts words into multiple contexts and compares them with their translations), I saw that it could also be translated (within the context) to “impact” and that sounded way better. The literal translation would look more like “The effect when the ultimate skill is released”, but that sentence is too bloated to sound natural to most native English speakers. Also, it would be understood that the skill is released, as we are seeing its impact, so including “released” would be redundant.

5. [ 每件衣服都是定制裁剪 ] Every garment is custom tailoured.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes - Prologue: Camp Quotes (incomplete for now)

So, uh… since there’s no datamine for Three Hopes so far and having to check my billions of screenshots to find something is really annoying, I’ll try to post the Japanese lines whenever I have time. It’s going to be a very disorganised mess, but I’ll do my best to avoid making your eyes bleed. And because I’m a fucking idiot and a bad, bad mooner, you’ll get Golden Dumpsterfire’s lines first. But… it doesn’t matter in the first chapter anyway, so...:

Dimitri (when introducing the Blue Lions):

Felix: フェリックスはフラルダリウス公の嫡子だ。口が悪いが、根は善人だよ。俺は保証する。あいつは昔から腕の立つ者が好きだから、きっとお前のことも気に入るはずだ。

Sylvain: ゴーティエ辺境伯の嫡子であるシルヴァンはその……見てのとおり、女癖が悪くてな。あんな態度だが、頭の回転は誰より速い。幼馴染の俺が言うのだから、確かだぞ。

Ingrid: イングリットはガラテア伯の息女なんだが下手な騎士よりも遥かに腕が立つんだ。あの真面目さや勤勉さは子供の頃からで......シルヴァンなどはよく小言を言われていた。

Mercedes: 俺も、彼女とは入学して初めて知り合った。物腰の柔らかい、しっかりした女性だ。帝国、王国と各地を転々としてきたらしい。だからな、ああも落ち着いているのは。

Dedue: ダスカー地方のことは知っているか？ドゥドゥーは、そこの生まれだ。寡黙だが優しい、俺の自慢の......従者だ。まあ、実際に話してみればすぐにわかるさ。

Ashe: 王国南部に、ガスパールという城がある。彼はそこの城主であるロナート卿の養子だ。あの実直な性格は、信頼に値すると思う。俺も......友人として親睦を深めたいものだ。

Mercedes and Annette:

Annette:　あ、傭兵さん！初めまして、だね。あたしはアネット。で、こっちが親友の……

Mercedes:　メルセデスよ。よろしくね～。もう他のみんなとはお話しした？

「まだだと答える」

Shez:　いえ、出立まではまだ時間があるし、これから話してみるつもりよ。

Mercedes:　じゃあ、みんなのことをよく知らないのは私たちと一緒ってことね～。

Annette:　実はあたしたちもこの間入学したばかりです、みんなの顔と名前は怪しいんだよね…...。

Knight of Seiros:

話はアロイスさんから聞かせてもらった。級長たちに加勢してくれて、感謝するよ。

生徒たちに何かあれば、心を痛めるだけでは済まなかった。重ね重ね、ありがとう。

前節も、学校から故郷に帰還した生徒が方向不明に......いや、君には関係ない話だった。

Knight of Seiros:

これまで何度も野外活動を行ってきたが......今回のようなことは一度もなかったのだ。

今年は皇女、王子、盟主の孫が揃っているため、護衛の数も平年の倍以上だった。

にもかかわらず、このような体たらく......。敵が一枚上手だったなどとは言えんよ。

まったく、レア様に何と申し開きをすればよいか......。困ったものだな。

Knight of Seiros:

君が３人に協力してくれて助かりました。

実は……級長たちは囮になって盗賊団の大部分を引きつけ、逃げてくれたのです。

おかげで他の者たちはかすり傷程度で守り切ることができました。

しかし、その結果、級長たち犠牲になっては大問題ですからね。

無事で本当に良かったです。

貴方の協力に感謝しています。

Soldier:

いやあ、特に何も起こらんから、旅行気分で行けって先輩には言われたんですけどね。

蓋を開けてみればこれですよ。まったく死ぬかと思いました。

もう必死で槍を振り回してたんですが……土官学校の女生徒に助けられちゃって。

最近の若い子は強いですねえ。機敏な動きで、見事なものでした。 (This one might be incomplete, I'm not sure)

Student:

怖かったよ！急に人がいっぱい襲ってきて......。

級長もどっかに行っちゃうし......残った貴族の人が指揮してくれたけど。

あれ？そういえば、君って誰？ま、まさか賊の生き残りじゃないよね！？

MY first version is CHINESE so I share my opinion by CHINESE. Also have ENGLISH version, BUT might not express myself well, English isn't my native language. IF you like this opinion, you can consider both the Chinese and English versions together.

the chameleon-魅影妖后

Po-阿宝

妖后是一个励志的角色，在身份、天赋、性别都不够，被人嘲笑的时候，没有在功夫这条路上走死胡同，相反她选择了其他的方式去达到自己的目的。（很多人其实光是给自己的人生换一条路这件事都做不到的）

而后面模仿的行为，在阿宝的立场来说“这都是你偷来的”，但实际上这样的法术能力可是也要锻炼的喔，就算是stole也是要技术的，妖后在法术这件事上的研习和努力绝对不比其他学功夫的要差。况且这些人都是恶人，按照传统思维来说妖后的行为是落井下石，以她的观念可能是给恶人在刺柏城一次再教育。

阿宝能一直坚信自己的行为是“正确”的原因，不是基于他的生活经验，而是基于战斗经验——“胜利”。是的，这导致他只有叙述权力，没有多少教导能力/哲思能力。历史掌握在胜利者手里，本质上还是比拳头大小。因此他的那句偷来的就显得十分单薄了，那只是在他的叙述立场上这么认为。以妖后的立场而言，不过是正常的世界运转模式：力量至上。后文他心灵鸡汤妖后会失败也是正常的——这个世界不是围着神龙大侠转的。

Kfp有一个很有意思的地方，就是所有人都是围着“神龙大侠阿宝”转的，在他及其翡翠宫的阵营下的人民是生活美好的，其他世界都是水深火热的，不利于神龙大侠的。大家只要信仰神龙大侠就好了喔，神龙大侠会带领大家走向一个美好的世界，要遵守神龙大侠的idea/秩序。非常的American呢www

阿宝自己亲自打开了潘多拉的魔盒，无形中破坏了秩序呢，你知道吗？zhen是妖后的养女、破坏了翡翠宫、偷盗了天慧法杖——而你却选择放过她蹲大牢、让她帮助你打败妖后、收养为弟子。这一切都是你的意志，没有任何一个人对此质疑，真是可怕呀。

就像妖后说的：我们本质上都是一样的人，经由百倍的历练，才达到这样的顶峰。更重要的是我们践行着一样的信条：别人不能相信、血让别人流、没有人在乎你怎么想——强者为尊w

阿宝说妖后需要change的不是外表而是内心，这句话也很有意思的。如果从角色立场来说确实如此，妖后需要change的是心态，统一天下的心态，报复的心态，变成一个inner peace的人，和平生活。可是同意了这个change的话，深层含义就意味着妖后要认可阿宝的秩序了，放弃自己赖以为生的手段。

阿宝这种行为实际上是天真的残忍。他似乎还不能完全理解，不是谁都能释然看透了自己受到的伤害与苦难。反派们的行为原因都是基于无法释然，过去的经历一直残害着原本鲜活的生命，以至于这个世界都不会给一丝发泄的机会，连最为基本的安慰都得不到。对他来说是一句好像能改变人生的change鸡汤，对他人来说却是一种傲慢。放弃长期以来的执念，意味着变成一个普通人，或许是对反派的人生/神龙大侠的秩序最好的选择，却对反派来说这是舍弃了尊严、过去，变成了另外一个人，用着另外的一个名字活着，那一刻反派的生命才是真正的停滞。

The chameleon is an inspiring character. Despite lacking in identity, talent, and being ridiculed by others, she didn't end up in a dead end on the path of martial arts. Instead, she chose alternative ways to achieve her goals. (Many people can't even change their life paths.)

Regarding the later imitative behaviors, from Po's perspective, "You stole all this," but in reality, mastering such spellcasting abilities also requires training. Even if it's considered stealing, it still requires skill. The chameleon's study and effort in magic are definitely not inferior to those learning martial arts. Moreover, these individuals are villains, so from traditional thinking, the chameleon's actions might seem like adding insult to injury, but from her perspective, it could be seen as giving the villains another lesson in Junpier City. Po's continued belief in the "rightness" of his actions is not based on his life experience but on his combat experience - "victory." Yes, this results in him having the narrative power but not much teaching or philosophical ability. History is in the hands of the victors, essentially bigger than just fists.

Therefore, his accusation of stealing appears quite shallow, just a reflection of his narrative stance. From the chameleon's perspective, it's just the normal mode of operation of the world: might makes right. Later, his "chicken soup for the soul" remark about the chameleon's failure is also normal - this world doesn't revolve around the Dragon Warrior.

KFP has an interesting aspect - everyone revolves around "the Dragon Warrior, Po," and the people under his and Jade Palace's camp live happily, while other worlds are harsh, not conducive to the Dragon Warrior. Everyone just needs to believe in the Dragon Warrior; he will lead everyone to a better world, and they must follow the Dragon Warrior's ideas/order. Very American lol

Po opened Pandora's Box, inadvertently disrupting the order, did you know? Zhen is the foster daughter of the chameleon, she destroyed the Jade Palace, stole the Staff with wisdom - yet you chose to spare her, letting her rot in jail, and then helping you defeat the chameleon, and finally adopting her as your disciple.

All of this is your will, and no one questions it. It's frightening. Just like the chameleon said: fundamentally, we are all the same, having gone through countless trials to reach such a peak. More importantly, we adhere to the same creed: others can't be trusted, blood lets others flow, and no one cares about what you think - might makes right.(sorry I don't know the word in movies)

Po says what the chameleon needs to change isn't her appearance but her heart, which is quite interesting. From a character standpoint, it's true; the chameleon needs to change her mindset, the mindset of seeking to unify the world, the mindset of revenge, and become someone with inner peace, living in peace. However, agreeing to this change means the chameleon must accept Po's order, abandoning the means she has relied on for survival.

Po's behavior is actually naively cruel. He seems unable to fully understand that not everyone can come to terms with the harm and suffering they've endured. The reasons for the villains' actions are based on their inability to come to terms with their past experiences, which continue to haunt their once vibrant lives, to the point where this world doesn't even give them a chance to vent, not even basic comfort. For him, it's a change of soup that seems to change one's life; for others, it's arrogance. Giving up long-held beliefs means becoming an ordinary person, which may be the best choice for the lives/order of the antagonists/Dragon Warrior, but for the villains, it means abandoning dignity and the past, becoming someone else, living under a different name. That moment is when the villains' lives truly stagnate.

先日THE WEST AGROSのMIKIさんと一緒にTHE JUSTIFIERSの復刻7インチを聴きながら、互いの近況報告とアホみたいな話、それからアホみたいな話に継ぐアホみたいな話の連続でアホみたいに大笑いした。MIKIさんとは昨年のBOBBY OROZA関連のパーティーを通じて交流が始まったんだけど、まさにきっぷの良い兄貴という感じで、いつもほんまにフレンドリーに接してくれる。日本橋R/H/BでMUSIC CAMPの宮田信さんが物販をされていた際に、数あるお宝レコードの中からMIKIさんは一枚のコンピレーションアルバムを手に取り「土井ちゃん、これめっちゃええで、これ一枚あったらDJでけるで」と言って勧めてくれて、その日のDJタイム時には「いらんいらん、俺ヘッドフォンいらんで！」というMIKIさんの大声がフロアに響き渡っていて、やっぱりこういう人がええなぁ、好きやなぁと思った次第。因みにあの日をきっかけに親交を深めた高槻のホットサンドカフェOTTO KNOTの智子さんや非営利団体S.F.Mの杉本さん、おふたりともめちゃくちゃおもしろくて、カラッとした気性がマジで心地良い。智子さんのホットサンド、杉本さんのタコス、どちらもほんまに美味しいので皆さんも機会があったら是非とも食べてみてほしい。MIKIさんたちと話していて思うのは「ええかっこしてたらアカンで」ちゅうことですわ。そして同時に「かっこ悪いこと」には敏感。これは割と重要で、逆説的でありながらも、確かに両立する。この概念を勘違いしている人が圧倒的に多いんやけど。だから僕らの会話は実際には伏せ字にせなあかんことばかり。とにかくMIKIさんは僕にとって信頼できる兄さんやということでお見知りおきください。

MIKIさんと抱腹絶倒した翌日、東京は下北沢にある日記専門店「日記屋月日」でディレクターをしている久木さんがご来店。髪色が明るくなっていて、パッと見て印象が変わっていた。久木さんは「蟹の親子」名義で文筆活動をしていて、年内には百万年書房からの商業出版が決定している。ここまで読んで、いやいやいやいや……お前つい先日、商業出版を貶しまくっていたやんけ、舐めてんのか！と前のめりに拳を握り締めた方々、そりゃあ早計に過ぎるというもんですぜ。物事はそんなに単純じゃない。これから出版される彼女の随筆集や今後の活動を目の当たりにすれば、この微妙なニュアンスの差異に恐らく気づいてもらえると思う。わからなければハイそれまでョ。久木さんとは膝を突き合わせて互いの魂を差し出すように腹を割って話をする。そうすることでかつては言語化されることのなかったモヤっとした塊がいつの間にか血肉に変わって自分の言葉で話せるようになる。途中、全盲の落語家、桂福点さんが自身の通う作業所「お気楽島」への帰りかたがわからなくなったとタラウマラに迷い込んできて、そのままどさくさに久木さんに向かって下ネタを開陳していたのは、まるでカフカの小説が目の前で展開されているみたいでズッコケそうになった。「人は誰しもエロいものですから」と冷静に切り返していた久木さんにもズッコケそうになった。その後、福点さんは作業所のスタッフに迎えに来てもらい、無事に「お気楽島」へ。ハットの上にちょこんと乗ったトレードマークの目玉おやじがいつまでもじっとりこちらを見ていた。引き続き久木さんと色んな話をしているうちに互いのバイブルが『冒険者たちガンバと15ひきの仲間』だということがわかり、ふたりともテンションがぶち上がる。

(この本と出会わなければ確実にいまはない！)

そこから久木さんの幼少期の思い出、幼稚園の園長先生が仕組んだコロポックル神話へと紡がれたところで思わず泣きそうに……。間違いない。やはりこの人とは目線が重なる。どうしたって僕たちは誰かの用意したレールにはうまく乗ることができないが、虚実の皮膜に畳み込まれた「ほんまもんの嘘」については心から肯定したいと願っている。ドブネズミのビルドゥングスロマンとか、コロポックルから届いた手紙とか、ぬいぐるみが食べ散らかした食卓とか、聖夜にベランダに放置されたトナカイのウンコとか、そういう弱者の領域とも形容できる素朴なファンタジーを信じることができなくなったら、そこで試合終了ですよ。予定ではクリスマス前後に届けられるであろう蟹の親子の新刊を、楽しみに待とう。

Comprehensive Biography of Niu Fu

Niu Fu (牛輔; d. 192) was a military general who served Dong Zhuo. He was married to Dong Zhuo's daughter. He was known for believing in superstitions. After Dong Zhuo's death, he inherited the majority of Dong Zhuo's troops but failed to act aggressively. He was soon killed by his own men after he fled his camp out of paranoia.

Life

Niu Fu probably knew Dong Zhuo for some good time, as he was married to Dong Zhuo's daughter.

In 190, Dong Zhuo sent Niu Fu to attack the White Wave Bandits that threatened him, but Niu Fu failed to push them back.[1] Later on, Dong Zhuo sent him to garrison Shan as he trusted him. Niu Fu was given command of his colonels, Li Jue, Guo Si, and Zhang Ji, and they soon attacked Zhongmou and defeated the Intendant of Henan; Zhu Jun there. After this victory, Niu Fu allowed his troops to plunder Chenliu and Yingchuan commanderies, kidnapping every one they could find for themselves. Later on, Dong Zhuo was killed in Chang'an, and so the majority of the Dong Zhuo army was with Niu Fu. Li Su was sent by the Chang'an revolt to try and destroy Niu Fu, but failed.[2][3]

Superstitions

Although Niu Fu commanded a strong force, he, however, was paranoid as well as cowardly. He believed himself to be weak, so he often showed off his military tally to exert his power as well as using a "axe-guillotine" on people to project strength. When guests requested to meet with him, he had a physiognomer judge them for their character and if it was not to his liking, he refused to meet them. In addition, he also divined his guests to see if they brought fortune or misfortune to him. If they passed both, only then would Niu Fu meet them. When the General of the Household; Dong Yue came to Niu Fu, possibly to help him, Niu Fu ordered a diviner to divine him. When Niu Fu saw the results, the diviner claimed that it meant, "Fire overcomes Metal. This divines that those outside will plot against those inside." Niu Fu got the 'message' and killed Dong Yue.[4] Such was Niu Fu's trust of diviners, even though that particular diviner gave a false interpretation because he hated Dong Yue.[5]

Downfall and Death

Some of the camp soldiers were dissatisfied with Niu Fu's leadership so they revolted and deserted during the night. Niu Fu believed they all betrayed him so he, along with just five or six people that he considered close and old friends, among them Hu Chi'er, made to escape the city. Niu Fu also took some precious treasures and some gold, which Hu Chi'er desired more than his friendship. While they escaped the camp and made a break for out to the north, Hu Chi'er seized Niu Fu and beheaded him, sending the head to Chang'an, and presumably seizing Niu Fu's valuables.[2][3]

Legacy

After Niu Fu's death, the camp troops came under the command of Li Jue, Guo Si, and Zhang Ji. Said people used those troops to breach Chang'an and seize power.

2022 Best Albums 10

コロナ禍の収束の兆しが見え始め、それと同時に街の動きも加速し、日々多忙を極めた一年。あまりにも忙しく、2022年は音楽を積極的に聴く気になれなかったのですが、そんな中でも心に響いた作品を10枚選定しました。

再度聴きなおして、やっぱり良いなぁ～と思った作品が中心です。(順不同)

Fontaines D.C. - SKINTY FIA

アイルランドはダブリン出身の 5人組ロックバンドが 3rd AL をリリース。自身のルーツを振り返り、現状をシニカルに表現したロックレコードです。

I Love You

本作はアイルランド人でありダブリン出身のメンバーがロンドンに移住してから経験したことを時に荒々しく、時に文学的に描き、詞に落とし込まれています。私は日本で生まれずっと日本で生活しているので、共感することは難しいのですが、アイルランド人としてロンドンで生活する息苦しさ及びアイルランド人としての矜持を吐露する感情が曲に籠っているので、聴いていて感傷的な気分になりますね。

そんな背景はもちろんですが、やはり曲が良い！リードトラック M-4 “ Jackie Down The Line “ や M-9 “I Love You “ を筆頭に、激しくも非常に重々しくて暗い曲が並んでいるのですが、それがたまらない。なんかイギリスのロックバンドって感じがして好きなんですよね。儚げなコーラスと掻き鳴らされるギターとフロントマンであるグリアン・チャッテンの切ないシャウトが印象的な M-10 “ Nabokov “ で私は昇天しました。

無骨さが目立った Debut AL のポスト・パンクサウンドからスケールアップした Fontaines D.C. ...デカいステージが似合うようになってきました。

2月の来日公演が楽しみだ！

Camp Cope - Running with the Hurricane

オーストラリアはメルボルンの 3 ピースフィメールロックバンドが 3rd AL をリリース！力強くエモーショナルな歌声とフォーキーなロックサウンドはまるで全てを肯定してくれるようで、希望を照らしてくれる一枚です。

Blue

本作も最高だ…！サウンド自体はとてもシンプルで、だからこそ響くジョージア・マックの力強い歌声。Debut AL ～ 2nd AL のエモ / パンクからの影響が色濃く反映され、バンドシーンの女性差別などを訴えていた頃は ”怒り” が一つの重要なファクターとなって曲を作っていました。ですが、本作はその頃とは雰囲気が変わり、それは曲を聴けばすぐにわかります。 M-10 “ Sing Your Heart Out “「 You can change and so can I ( あなたも変われることはできるし私も変われる) 」という一節を歌い幕を閉じるように、どの曲も優しく包み込んでくれるように暖かく、希望に満ちているようにも思えます。

その大きな理由にメンバーはパンデミックの間、ワクチン接種の仕事をするため看護婦として働いていた経験が大きく影響されているようです。

「音楽は最高だけど、それ以上に大切なものはたくさんある。たとえ自分たちの音楽を気に入らない人が多くいても気にしない。ワクチンを打って生きているんだから。」と語る彼女たち。音楽を聴かなければいけない。それが自分のアイデンティティだとある種、強迫観念に囚われていたといっても過言ではない時期が私にもあったけど、いい意味で所詮は音楽。聴きたいときに聴いて等身大に楽しめばいいんだよと、微笑みかけてくれるような一枚です。

個人的に現在のシーンで一番カッコいいフィメールバンドだと思っています。

Whatever The Weather - Whatever The Weather

ロンドンのエレクトロニック・ミュージックプロデューサー Loraine James 別名義での 1st AL。温度を音で表したコンセプチュアルなアンビエントレコードです。

何度も再生してはいるのですが、正直聴いているうちに寝ていたので、ちゃんと一から最後まで聴くのは今が初めて。でも改めて聴くと、めっちゃ気持ちいいですね...　

どうやら本作は曲名を温度で表しているように気温や気候がテーマなのですが、天気というのは予測できないことから即興で演奏して作曲した模様。実験的であり美しさが光る作品です。

M-1 “ 25℃ “ (これは徐々に気温が高くなる春の温かみを表現しているのか..) を聴くとアンビエンスなアレンジが中心なのかなと思いきや M-2 “ 0℃ “ (これは水が氷結する瞬間を表現しているのか..) から M-3 “ 17℃ “（これは朝晩の気温の寒暖差を表しているのか..) の流れからは IDM 的アレンジも感じ取られ、また、M-9 “ 30℃ “ (これは夏になり人々が活発に過ごす様子を表現しているのか..) では幽玄なヴォーカルが乗ったエモーショナルなビート・ミュージックと様々な表情を見せてくれます。これは抗えない天候の変化に伴い自然や人間の変化をも表すようです。

タイトルが温度なのでこの音は何を表現しているのか考えながら曲を楽しむこともできるし、ヒーリング・ミュージックとしてリラックスする時に聴くこともできる素晴らしい一枚でした。

Dry Cleaning - Stumpwork

サウス・ロンドンの注目株が去年に引き続き早くも 2nd AL をリリース！鋭利でメロディックなナンバーがそろった名盤です！

Anna Calls From The Arctic

相変わらずループするビート上(特にベース・ラインがヤバい！)で炸裂するギターがエロい.. そして、感情が一切排除されたフローレンス・ショウのヴォーカルはあまりにもシュール過ぎるしセクシーだ。本作は、緊張感ある演奏でミニマルに展開しつつその上に抒情的にジャキジャキと響かせるギターが印象的だった Debut AL の延長線上にある作品ですが、一曲一曲がよりメロディックになっています。

高揚感を誘いながら疾走する M-2 “ Kwenchy Kups “ ～ M-3 “ Gary Ashby “ に、アジアンな雰囲気を醸すサイケデリックなナンバー M-5 “ Hot Penny Day “ やハード・ロック風のサウンドからへろっへろなギターリフの高低差に思わずニヤニヤしちゃう M-8 “ Don't Press Me “ など、どの曲も個性的で、2nd の時点ですでに Dry Cleaning 節を確立させたといってもいいでしょう。

来日公演マジで最高だった！！！

Gilla Band - Most Normal

アイルランドはダブリンの狂気性を孕んだ 4人組ノイズ・ロックバンドが3年振りに 3rd AL をリリース！神経と脳みそがぐちゃぐちゃになっちゃうほど興奮させてくれる猟奇的な一枚です。

Eight Fivers

Ex. Girl Band。時代の波により改名を余儀なくされてからの (Gillaは古いアイルランド語でGirlの意味だそう) 新作。はい。不快過ぎます。神経を逆撫でする音で埋め尽くされていますね。最高。

濁流かと思うのほどのノイズと病的に発狂するヴォーカルは彼らの個性でもありますが、より一層聴き手を試すようなナンセンスなサウンドに磨きがかかっているのかなと思います。

オープニングトラック M-1 “ The Gum “ は凶悪につんざくインダストリアルビート。絶対に良くないことが起こるんだろうなと不穏を煽る見事なナンバー。ばつんとノイズ＆シャウトが止み、何事もなかったようにすっとぼけた音が聞こえてきたかと思えば、展開が予測不能でひりついたAメロから一気に感情を暴発させる M-2 “ Eight Fivers “へとジェットコースターのように曲は流れていく。そして曲が終わると同時に次の曲へ・・そう、本作は一度再生してしまったら最後、聴き手に息をつく暇をあたえないサドスティックな構成になっているのです。細かくインタールード(しかしこれらも不快なノイズを用いている)を挟んでオープニングからエンディングまで曲を繋いでいくことで強制的に本作に没入させる。ただ煩いのではなく、つぶさにアレンジを効かして聴き手を圧倒する構成力に私はもうメロメロ..

世には様々なジャンルの煩い音楽で溢れていますが、私が Gilla Band を贔屓する要素でもある「理性的に狂気を音に落とし込んでいる点」がそれらと一線を画す要素なのかなと思います。

聴く際はヴォリュームを気持ち4つほど上げて欲しいのですが、聴いた後、頭が痛くなるので注意が必要です.. M-5 “ Binliner Fashion “ のアウトロ30秒間の濁流ノイズとかマジヤバ過ぎる..

Weird Nightmare - Weird Nightmare

カナダのノイズ・ロックバンド Metz のフロントマンアレックス・エドキンスがソロ作品をリリース！甘酸っぱくもヒリヒリした最高なガレージ・パンクレコードです！

Searching for You

大好き。こういう音楽をずっと聴いていたい。パワー・ポップとかキャッチーなメロディック・パンクはもちろんテンションが上がるのですが、時折軽さや計算高さを感じてしまい個人的には物足りなさも感じたりします。しかし本作には、野性的に楽器を鳴らす荒々しい (それこそ初期 Cloud Nothings のような..) サウンドと直感でドカンと鳴っているプリミティブな勢いがそのまま曲に乗っているので、だからこそ興奮するし涙腺にも直撃してしまいます... M-3 “ Lusitania “ ～ M-7 “ Dream “ はヤバ過ぎる.. 拳突き上げっぱなし！

また、M-9 “ Oh No (feat. Chad VanGaalen) “ では本業でもある Metz 然とした激しさや、ラスト M-10 “ Holding Out “ では現行エモ / インディー・ロックシーンにも通ずるノスタルジーさも感じられるので、決して思い出をなぞった懐古ではない、現代にリリースしたロックレコードだと認識させてくれます。

クレジットを見るにいろんなゲストミュージシャンが携わっているようですが、Bully のフロントマンであるアリシア・ボグナノも参加しているのですね。大いに納得な出来。。

羊文学 - our hope

メジャーレーベルのソニーから 2nd AL を2年振りにリリース。期待を優に超えていく、令和が誇るジャパニーズオルタナティブ・ロックの名盤レコードです。

光るとき

一曲一曲がとにかく強い。タイアップ曲 M-2 “ 光るとき “ や M-11 “ マヨイガ “ は言わずもがな、グッドメロディーがふんだんに凝縮している一枚。自然と口ずさみたくなるナンバーばかりです。

なんだろう.. 聴いていて幸せな気分になるんですね。M-3 “ パーティーはすぐそこ “ はとってもキャッチーでついつい口ずさんじゃうし、M-7 “ くだらない “ では切なくなっちゃうし、M-9 “ ワンダー “ で掻き鳴らされるファジーなギターにいつも頭がくらくらするほど恍惚とした気分になるし、スーパーカーを断片的に彷彿としてしまうエレクトロテイストなアレンジが煌めく M-10 “ OOPARTS “ も大好きだ。それだけでなく、ルーツ・ミュージックの影響が色濃く反映されている M-4 “ 電波の街 “ や M-5 “ 金色 “ も淡くて良いんですよね..

また、デビューしてからずっと通ずることなのですが、フロントマンである塩塚モエカの歌声が良過ぎる.. 透明感と力強さが伴った歌声.. 歌が上手いことのシンプルイズベストな力って凄いなと羊文学を聴くたびに思わせてくれます。

「魅せる」という意識もあるのが羊文学の良いところ。ステージ衣装はいつも素敵だし、本当に良いバンドだなと思います。

12月25日のクリスマス公演は最高な体験だったな..

Alex G - God Save the Animals

US はフィラデルフィアの SSW が神秘的な 9th AL をリリース。不思議な魅力を放つ唯一無二の世界がここに広がっています。

Runner

フィラデルフィアという地は本当に味わい深いインディー・ロックバンドを生み出してくれます。その中でもひと際不思議な存在感を放つ SSW Alex G ことアレックス・ジアンナスコーリの様相は未だ掴めずにいます。元々彼は宅録ミュージシャンで一人で作曲をするタイプではありましたが、本作ではパンデミックの影響もあり、外に出て友人とともにいろんなスタジオで作曲したようです。そういったこともあり、たしかに以前よりは開放されたムードが感じられます。ですが、何度も聴いても未だこのアルバムとの距離感が掴めていません。

ピアノやアコギを基調とした胸を打つほどにグッドメロデイーが際立つ M-2 “ Runner “ や M-3 “ Mission “ は素朴で親近感を感じますし、ヴァイオリンの音色が優しく響く M-12 “ Miracles “ はどこか郷愁的。

しかし、ストリングスをバックに奇妙なエフェクトがかかったヴォーカルが乗る M-4 “ S.D.O.S “ やエレクトロニックなアレンジが加わった哀愁あるフォークナンバー M-7 “ Cross the Sea “ からアウトロでシンセサイザーが突飛に鳴り響いたかと思えば M-8 “ Blessing “ では謎な神々しさを演出するハードなナンバーへと展開していくさまは中々に奇妙でやっぱり掴みどころがないなと感じさせられます。浮遊感漂うポップなナンバー M-10 “ Immunity “ も異質な存在感がありますね。

一言では決して表せられないジャンルレス。しかしどの曲にも通底して切なさと暖かさが同居している秀逸なインディー・ロックレコードです。

Spoon - Lucifer On The Sofa

US が誇るベテランインディー・ロックバンドが渋くも踊れる 10th AL をリリース！キャリア豊富な大人たちが無邪気に鳴らすロックンロールナンバーに酔い痴れること必至な一枚です。

The Hardest Cut

Spoon。名前は知っていましたが聴かずじまいだったバンドの一つで、新譜を5年振りにリリースするというニュースを聞き、いい機会だと思っていざ聴いてみたら、完全に心を鷲掴みにされてしまいました..

20年以上続くキャリアから醸し出されているのか.. 落ち着きを払った大人の余裕から薫る煙っぽさが全曲通してむんむんと漂っています。しかしそれはクセがあるようで無く、誰でもいいから気に入ったヤツから一緒に踊ろうよと誘うかのようにキャッチーなサウンドばかりだったりします。リードトラックである M-2 “ The Hardest Cut “ と M-4 “ Wild “ を一聴してみてほしい。熟成した熱が帯びつつも軽やかなバンドアンサンブルは大衆性も孕んでいるかと思います。

中でも M-3 “ The Devil & Mister Jones “ と M-7 “ On The Radio “ がお気に入り。前者は卒なく仕事をこなすかのようにジャキジャキと歪ませて鳴るギターがたまらなくエロいし、後者はピアノの切ない伴奏の上で響くギターとフロントマンブリット・ダニエルのハスキーな歌声に文字通り酔い痴れてしまいます..

2022年個人的に最も良いと思ったロックンロールレコードでした！

新進気鋭な尖った若手たちには出せないオーラに感服..

Cwondo - Coloriyo

No Buses のフロントマン近藤大彗によるソロプロジェクト Cwondo が 3rd AL をリリース。00年代のエレクトロニカシーンを彷彿とさせるノスタルジックでキュートな一枚です。

Sarasara

ひどくエモーショナルな気分になりますね。この妙な懐かしさと人懐っこさは。心がやられているときに不意に流れると絶対に涙腺が崩壊すると思います。M-2 “ Midori “ とかヤバいです.. 多感な思春期に何もすることもなく、ただ教室からぼーっと青空を見上げていたそんな淡い情景が嫌でも思い浮かんでしまいます。(さすがに抒情的になり過ぎ..?)

全曲通して、とてもキャッチーで愛おしいエレクトロニカ・ミュージックを聴かせてくれます。たしかに聴いていて心が温かくなる。しかしこの温もりは、少なくとも無償の愛や生命の儚さといった自然的な要素から起因するものではないと思います。

曲を象る音はどれも人工的で生々しい。それは i am robot and proud や The Postal Service を彷彿とさせる音。都市で生きる人々が無意識に欲する現代的な温もりともいえると思います。特に、機械的なピアノのフレーズの上に少々大げさにエフェクトがかかったサンプリングが切ないメロディーを生む M-4 “ Sarasara “ が象徴的だなと思います。

本業である No Buses は The Strokes や Arctic Monkeys からの影響がうかがえるガレージ・ロックバンド (これまたとてもカッコいい！) で、バンドを稼働しつつも気付けばあっという間に Cwondo名義での作品は3枚目に突入しており、近藤大彗というミュージシャンは本当に音楽を作ることが好きなんだろうなとストレートに伝わってきてそこも素敵です。

ようやく海外ミュージシャンの来日公演が増えてきたので、2023年はたくさんライブに行けたら良いな。
