What is it?
Hom Hymn Daily is the collection of the Homeric Hymns, emailed to you on a daily basis. The longer hymns will be delivered per 100 lines, while the shorter Homeric Hymns each get their own email. They will be delivered in ancient Greek and English, with notes and further reading where applicable. Links to each letter will also be posted here as well.
What are the Homeric Hymns?
The Homeric Hymns are a collection of 33 hymns with no singular author, date or origin, despite what their name suggests. dated as widely apart as the seventh century B.C.E. and the fifth century C.E., they are known to us as such because of their transmission as a unified collection. The Hymns were considered Homer’s, and are called Homeric because they are hexameter hymns quite similar to Homer’s epics in content, style and diction. A distinction, however, should be made between the first five extant hymns and the rest– they are most likely older and considerably longer (about 300 to 600 lines) than the rest. It is these five hymns that show the closest parallels to the epics of Homer and Hesiod.
The five longer hymns, to Aphrodite, Apollo, Hermes, Demeter and the fragmentary Hymn to Dionysus, show some consistency in their content and style, all describing the gods’ major τιμαὶ, their honours and attributes and activities, and narrating their birth, the establishment of their domains, or the founding of major sanctuaries.  All longer hymns can be dated from about the eighth century to the sixth century B.C.E. The five longer hymns all contain a myth about the hymn’s deity, and often a passage in which the nature of that deity is explored. They were likely composed and performed at festivals, symposia, and other celebrations by rhapsodes, travelling bards.
The shorter Homeric hymns differ slightly in content. They are addressed to Olympian gods, but also to minor deities and heroes such as Heracles and the Dioscuri, heroes who were deified in their myths. The hymns range from texts of under ten lines to about fifty lines, which is significantly smaller than the longer hymns. Most notably, they lack a mythological narrative. Rather, they address the Muse or the deities themselves, establish the deities’ characteristics, and salute them. The shorter hymns offer the most diversity in dating and geographical origin, and are especially risky to consider as one group of texts.
Notes on the Text
Hom Hymn Daily uses the 1914 edition and translation by Hugh G. Evelyn-White, as these are part of the public domain. The ordering of the Hymns is also his, following the ordering we find in most manuscript collections of the Hymns. Places in the text which are dubious, fragmentary, or lost, are indicated and follow Evelyn-White’s critical apparatus.
Each hymn contains footnotes added by Evelyn-White to explain specific parts of the text. You’ll see Evelyn-White referring to the Allen and Sikes edition here and there, which is a revised edition of the 1893 edition by Goodwin and Allen from 1904, some of the first substantial publications of the Hymns.
Here and there suggestions for secondary reading are included (with direct links whenever possible). If something spikes your interest, feel free to comment, ask, DM this blog for answers or more suggestions for secondary reading!

(please keep in mind that this project starts 19-09-2022, and so not all hymns have been published to the site yet. thank you.)

Def Leppard Dictionary: Entry 2
Vivgate (alt. Vivgate 2022)
/VIV-gayt/
proper noun
The event(s) that occurred on Rick Allen's Instagram account on the evening of September 7th, 2022.
Origin: September 9th, 2022 C.E.
First originated on the Tumblr account @thiswatch-lepparddef-werehi on September 9th, 2022. The term was coined by the user in order to refer to the events depicted in two videos that (Def Leppard drummer) Rick Allen posted to his Instagram two nights prior. The first video consisted of Allen speaking closely to the camera about the imminent Def Leppard show in San Francisco, CA, whilst (Def Leppard guitarist) Vivian Campbell visibly dressed himself in the background. Campbell was seen in only underwear and shoes, and proceeded to put on a pair of pants over his shoes. This first video was promptly deleted soon after, as Allen did not realize Campbell was visible in the video. The second video was a public apology from Allen to Campbell, posted soon after the deletion of the first video.

From ; Graham Little
.C.E. Baragwanath built an outfit which was to make motorcycling history. He took the most powerful racing engine marketed for motorcycle use and supercharged it! It was as fast, if not faster than, the majority of contemporary solos, and as to be expected, capable of lapping the banked circuit at considerably over 100mph.
When he retired in the early thirties the outfit was sold to Noel Pope, who used it in both solo and chair form, then he installed a later engine and finally set the Brooklands lap record at 106mph sidecar and 124mph solo.
After the war Noel used the old Brough in an unsuccessful attempt on the World Record at Bonneville. Finally C.E. 'Titch' Allen bought the remnants and set about rebuilding the model in its original vintage trim. The machine is based on a Brough Superior 'Pendine' model. Castle forks are used at the front. These, based on a Harley-Davidson design, employ short leading bottom link. Both wheels have 21inch diametre rims. The brakes are 7inch front and 8inch rear.
The engine is an 8/50 type J.A.P which, in unblown form, developed about 50bhp. Bevel gears drive a 50 degree twin-cylinder magneto mounted on a platform on the timing chest, and outside this is carried the double Pilgrim pump which operates a total loss oil system. Two heavy-gauge alloy plates carry the Powerplus supercharger just forward of the down-tube. The three-speed, super-heavyweight Sturmey archer gearbox, has an optional positive stop footchange mechanism, although Barry retained hand change for Brooklands events.
The bare essentials - that sums up the sidecar. It has a 'proper' body, with a wooden floor and a one-piece alloy shell streamlind to cheat the wind and copied from one of the floats of the Schneider Trophy winning seaplane of 1929. The whole outfit has a fiercely impressive air of power. It is an apt memorial to one of the greatest figures in the golden age of tuner-rider.

Meditations on the Occult Power of Horror Cinema
Tumblr media
“There are chords in the hearts of the most reckless which cannot be touched without emotion, even by the utterly lost, to whom life and death are equally jests, there are matters of which no jest can be made.” — Edgar Allen Poe, The Masque of the Red Death
Kirk’s Journal 12/18/2021
We need to learn a new way of framing old discussions. Certain paradigms and parameters were framed in such a way — I believe by design, although for the purposes of this mental exercise we can kick that thematic can down the metaphorical road until the next episode — that the way we even begin talking about certain subjects obviates any possibility of two parties coming to a shared realization together about said subject, which should be the purpose of any discussion, remember?
The English language can be and often is a block towards serious discussions about anomalous phenomenon. It’s nearly impossible to have a real debate about whether or not fairies are real when neither party is willing to back away from their personal idea of what a fairy even is, much less acknowledge the lack of mutual parameters with respect to reality itself.
Again, I believe this is by design. Which hints at the idea of certain hidden designers — designers like invisible Lovecraftian monsters that think in terms of decades, generations, and sometimes centuries, while the rest of us flail blindly about from one news item, fantasy sports league, or premier cable show to the next.
These days, it’s got to be like shooting fish in a barrel for the monsters.
The funny thing is how much all of this is out in the open. It’s our fundamental lack of curiosity — cultivated and refined by the very same black magicians that benefit from our ignorance — combined with our fear of standing apart from the rest of society that keeps us weak. This is what mass psychology and propaganda expert Edwards Bernays would have described as the conjoined principles of gregariousness, emulation, and obedience to authority.

THIS IS SPIRITUAL WARFARE
To truly know this is the cure for suicidal ideation — to realize that you aren’t crazy or fucked up; it’s that the civilized world is weaponized against personal development. Specifically, what we call entertainment is more like black magic. Metaphorically, sure; but also, arguably, quite literally and physically. But, I’m jumping ahead here.
It only requires a solid afternoon of research to realize that the entire English language only goes back to about 1215 C.E.
The very language we speak was a construct that was once upon a time literally forced on a generation of Anglo-Saxon speakers at the point of a sword, not long after King Athelrod the Unready handed over the English monarchy to the Normans. The entire English language is a construct of gematria -an occult principle that assigns numerical values to letters. Specifically, the modern English language was designed to eliminate certain certain cognitive gaps within Ancient Greek, Hebrew, and Latin linguistic styles, while at the same time dumbing everyone down.
How? A significant clue is in the structure of the language itself. English is a storyteller language. Newcomers to English have to understand the syntax of an entire  sentence in order to parse out the contextual meanings of each word, which creates a cognitive gap. By contrast we need only examine Latin, in which the context of nouns and verbs are automatically and instantly defined by their respective declensions and conjugations.

Sometimes I wonder about the weaponization of horror films.
Let me put it another way — it’s not that I wonder if there came some point where rogue members of the CIA and Army Intelligence actually weaponized horror films against citizens both of the U.S. and abroad.
THEY DEFINITELY AND WITHOUT A DOUBT DID JUST THAT
The preponderance of evidence that this exactly happened would make for the stuff of comedy if the implications weren’t as dire as they seem. I simply wonder that more people don’t talk about this — aside from the nearly unintelligible screeching from Christian Fundamentalists — the rise of which was not only another PSYOP courtesy of those same bad actors, but the other pincer on the claw.
I never set out to be a conspiracy theorist. Once upon a time, I wanted to be a comedian and popular novelist.
I didn’t pay attention to this stuff until a few years ago, on account of I used to write those funny list articles for Cracked.com (5 Strangest Felonies Committed by Animals! 6 Insane Crimes Committed by the Detectives In Charge!)
I never stopped researching, keeping an open mind and a skeptical eye for detail, and this is simply where I ended up.
The thing is, you don’t need to comb through the basements of sites like 4chan and Reddit to find the evidence. It’s everywhere. Here’s Roger Ebert talking about the first time he ever saw Night of the Living Dead, at a Saturday matinee.
“…At this point, the mood of the audience seemed to change. Horror movies were fun, sure, but this was pretty strong stuff. There wasn’t a lot of screaming anymore; the place was pretty quiet. When the fire died down, the ghouls approached the truck and ripped apart the bodies and ate them. One ghoul ate a shoulder joint with great delight, occasionally stopping to wipe his face. Another ghoul dug into a nice mess of intestines.
Back inside the farmhouse, the little girl dies and turns into a ghoul. She advances on her mother. The mother tries to talk to her, but the girl takes a trowel and stabs her mother in the chest a couple of dozen times. On TV, the sheriff advises citizens to set the ghouls on fire: “They’ll go right up.”
…The kids in the audience were stunned. There was almost complete silence. The movie had stopped being delightfully scary about halfway through, and had become unexpectedly terrifying. There was a little girl across the aisle from me, maybe nine years old, who was sitting very still in her seat and crying.
…I don’t think the younger kids really knew what hit them. They were used to going to movies, sure, and they’d seen some horror movies before, sure, but this was something else. This was ghouls eating people up — and you could actually see what they were eating. This was little girls killing their mothers. This was being set on fire. Worst of all, even the hero got killed.
It’s hard to remember what sort of effect this movie might have had on you when you were six or seven. But try to remember. At that age, kids take the events on the screen seriously, and they identify fiercely with the hero. When the hero is killed, that’s not an unhappy ending but a tragic one: Nobody got out alive. It’s just over, that’s all.
I felt real terror in that neighborhood theater last Saturday afternoon. I saw kids who had no resources they could draw upon to protect themselves from the dread and fear they felt.”
The Vietnam War, such as it was, begin with a lie and ended with us dumping 6 lbs of toxic waste on top of the heads of every man woman and child in South Vietnam.

Now it might be difficult to prove William Peter Blatty’s connection to the Army Intelligence division and his papers on psychological warfare.
Might have to comb some pretty sketchy conspiracy rags to find

Here it is in the Washingtonian (emphasis mine)…
“…Blatty had a family to support. He interviewed with the FBI and the CIA, he says, but didn’t get far because the sheer number of address changes before college rendered a background check impossible. To make ends meet, he sold Electrolux vacuum cleaners door to door and drove a Gunther beer truck. He enlisted in the Air Force, where the recruiting sergeant didn’t give a rat’s ass where he’d lived as a kid. He spent four years in uniform, landing in the Psychological Warfare Division, where his bilingual skills made him valuable.”
A Jesuit trained by Army intelligence and given free reign to unleash the fruits of his dark knowlege upon an unexpecting public sounds extremely valuable to the same sort of minds behind Project MKOFTEN

Sunset Crater
During its creation about a thousand years ago (1085 C.E.), explosions rocked Sunset Crater. The emerging volcano buried the landscape in a thick, dark carpet of lava and ash. Much of the evidence of that eruption is still visible today. During a series of eruptions, magma rose to the surface through a vent, creating the cinder cone that still rises more than 1,000 feet (300 meters) over the surrounding area. The crater draws its name from the fiery orange rings of earth that surround its cone. These deposits contain sulphur and iron, which oxidizes (rusts) and turns red with exposure to air and water. Today, trees and bushes grasp for a foothold in the volcanic rock and dark soil around the crater. On July 12, 2016, the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite captured a natural-color image (above) of the crater and the surrounding San Francisco Volcanic Field. The image was draped over terrain data from the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER). Note: the scene was rotated to create this image, so north is to the right. The closeup below shows Sunset Crater as observed by OLI, but without the terrain drape (north is up). To the east of the cone, a field of dark, hardened rock from the Bonita Lava Flow is still visible. In the 20th century, the crater was almost swept away by an explosion of another kind. In 1928, Hollywood producers attempted to blast Sunset Crater in order to create a landslide for a film. In the wake of the incident, local citizens pushed for government protection of the orange-topped hill, which was drawing thousands of tourists to the area. President Herbert Hoover established a national monument at the site, north of Flagstaff, Arizona, on May 26, 1930. Sunset is the youngest in an aggregation of more than 600 volcanoes in the San Francisco Volcanic Field, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The field covers roughly 1,800 square miles (4,600 square kilometers), and many of its volcanoes formed over the course of months to years. References and Related Reading Massey, P. and Wilson, J. ANACHRONISMS IN THE GOSPELS — Dave Allens blog
ANACHRONISMS According to Burton Mack in his book “Who Wrote the New Testament”, the pious Pharisee movement did not exist IN GALILEE [they were plentiful in Judea] until after 70 C.E., when Jews were forced out of Jerusalem and headed north. Likewise, the use of the term “rabbi” for scribes and teachers was not in […]

New book prize created by AINA
The new Shekel Prize takes the form of this three-inch, high-relief medal.
A new award called the Shekel Prize has been created by the board of directors of the American Israel Numismatic Association.
It is to be given annually to the author of the best book published on the subject of Ancient Judaea, Holy Land, Israel or Jewish Numismatics.
There will be a judging committee to make the determination, consisting of Mel Wacks, David Hendin, Ira Rezak, Steve Album and Allen Berman.
The Shekel Prize will take the form of an extremely high relief three-inch medal designed by Victor Huster.
Featured on it are three shekel designs – from a c. 8th century B.C.E. shekel stone weight, a shekel of the First Revolt (66-70 C.E.), and 1-new shekel (issued by Israel beginning in 1985).
The first prize winner is Yoav Farhi, author of “Khirbet Qeiyafa Vol. 5: Excavation Report 2007–2013, The Numismatic Finds: Coins and Related Objects.” Other contributors to this volume are C. Lorber, S. Shalev and S. Shilstein. The Shekel Prize medal will be presented later this year in a ceremony in Israel.
The AINA board notes that this is Farhi’s first book. His MA thesis (2004) was “The Coinage of the City of Lod (Diospolis) from the Roman Period to the End of the Early Islamic Period (Hebrew).” His Doctoral Dissertation (2013) was “The Coinage of Gaza in the Roman Period (1st Century B.C.E.-3rd Century C.E.).”
The award will be given to Yoav Farhi at a ceremony in Israel later this year.
The winning book’s content is described by the publisher, The Israel Exploration Society:
“More than 600 coins and related objects were found at Khirbet Qeiyafa during the 2007-2013 excavation seasons. The earliest coins date from the end of the sixth century B.C.E. and the latest from the British Mandate. These coins almost all relate to three phases in the history of the site following the Iron Age occupation: the Late Persian-Early Hellenistic period (late fourth–early third centuries B.C.E.), the Hasmonaean period up to the destruction of the Second Temple (first century B.C.E.–first century C.E.) and the Late Roman and Byzantine periods (fourth–fifth centuries C.E.).”
