Misunderstandings

“I met a super cute civilian today!”

“What.”

“Mhm. They were veeeeery attractive – like OMG-are-they-a-model attractive. They had these adorable dimples and fluffy hair that you could mistake for cotton candy. I almost wanted to bite into it because of how similar it looked!”

Hero said some more words, but all Vigilante could hear was the thumping of their own heart. They were somewhat relieved they didn’t have to listen to Hero's rant about another person. Their mind chanted how much of a fool they were for letting someone like Hero get out of their grasp. Vigilante hadn’t even worked up the courage to confess…

Eventually, they realised that the chatter had stopped and croaked, “I’m happy for you.”

Hero reached out a hand, voice dropping into a concerned tone. “Vigilante, are you okay?”

“Great,” they replied, but Hero’s frown only deepened. “Just, I don’t think we should talk about our civilian partners. It’s dangerous for them.”

Hero gave a small flinch like something had surprised them. “Civilian partner?” they laughed, but without their usual boisterousness. “They were just a cutie pie I saw during my rounds. Would totes date them if I could, but alas, my heart belongs with you.”

Vigilante tried to ignore the flutter of their heart at that statement. Hero was just being their usual flirty self – it meant nothing. Their face started to redden anyway.

“I don’t think they could date even if they wanted to, though,” Hero added.

Now that Vigilante knew Hero had no relationship with the civilian, they felt a bit guilty for being judgemental. “What makes you say that?”

“Eh, mostly how tired they looked.” Hero shrugged. “Wore this old sweater – green, fraying at the edges. Seemed like they weren’t getting paid enough, y’know? Also lives in a cheaper neighbourhood of the city. The one with the good ice cream.”

Vigilante stared at them. Because that sounded awfully familiar, but it couldn’t be, right?

“Enough about me, though.” Hero waved a hand. “Since when were you dating someone? Have you been holding out on me?”

Adorable eyes, fluffy hair…Vigilante realised how horrible Hero was at describing people. They had said nothing specific about the mysterious civilian.

“Hello? Vigilante?”

But there was no mistaking the green sweater they had mentioned, or the part of the city the civilian lived in.

“Vigilante? Hey, you’re worrying me.”

Vigilante shot them a smile they were sure was wobbly. “Sorry, Hero, I think we have to cut this meeting short.”

Hero stood up, following Vigilante to the edge of the roof. “Are you sure you’re fine? You seem a bit off.”

“Peachy. Promise,” they added when Hero still looked unconvinced. Then, not waiting for a reply, they leapt to the other rooftop, taking off in a run.

Vigilante’s mind was suspended in a state of disbelief. Because the civilian that Hero had spent all afternoon mooning over, the one they had called ‘super cute’…might have been Vigilante themselves.

If you could rewrite legend of korra and make it your own(or just in general better) how would you do it? The villains would stay the same and korra and crew are the same(personalities you can definitely tweak a bit. I would definitely not have any love triangles and make korra and asami happen in the beginning) how would you do it with your ships being canon as well?

Okay so I’ve never actually watched LOK. I’ve heard A LOT about it through watching countless video essays on Youtube and reading Tumblr posts about it. I know the who, the what and the how, I just haven’t wanted to watch it because, even though it looks cinematically gorgeous, the story was written by Bry/ke and there’s a LOT of it, worldbuilding and storywise, that I just can’t bare to watch.

So here goes. This got long. Enjoy!

1) Remove the Decopunk world. 

A Decopunk world is a world where technology is 1920s-ish, but very advanced. We have cars, tanks, radio, bobs and faux bobs, cloche hats, short skirts, nice suits, etc. I adore Decopunk. The 1920s are one of my favourite eras. An optimistic way of looking at the world, partying, illegal alcohol, the remnants of the Great War... I love it. I really do. But it doesn’t work in the pre-established world of Avatar. It brings elements that are far too imperialistic and colonial in nature (which prompted the comics to be imperialistic and colonial in nature, with the Northern and Southern Water Tribe, you can find many posts about that), which came along hand in hand with the Industrial Revolution, as this article puts it so well. Please read it, it’s awesome.

Why did they feel they had to denature Avatar’s world? They already had everything they could possibly want. 

The Fire Nation could be more Steampunk, which is a little less advanced than Decopunk (First Industrial Revolution vs Second Industrial Revolution) because there were elements of Steampunk in the Fire Nation Army (such as the tanks, the navy and the dirigibles). But it could be for them only. It could show us how Zuko transformed the Fire Nation from a war industry to a steam-powered country. This could be the new way to channel firebending (and please, no more “anyone can do lightning bending”, you don’t need lightning bending to get electricity and it makes  Zuko, Iroh, Ozai and Azula weak in the show!). 

We’ve seen waterbending used in clever ways in the Northern Water Tribe. How could Katara’s waterbending and Sokka’s engineering influence the Southern Water Tribe to make them use waterbending more? Canals, waterfalls, waterways, etc.? In new and different ways? Could the Southern Water Tribe use hydroelectricity, but in a clean, sustainable way? Why does the Southern Water Tribe port look so... mundane? 

The Earth Kingdom already had a working train system in Ba Sing Se. And the postal system in Omashu. Toph could have taught earthbenders how to follow the Badgermoles way and dug tunnels throughout a nation in peace. Then boom. Subways. But instead of machines pushing the people along, you can have benders do it. Instead of messenger hawks, the postal system could run through the entire kingdom instead of just Omashu and be much more efficient. The Earth Kingdom could be praised for its fast postal system that could, maybe, work as telegrams.

I’ll come back to the Air Nomads.

Those are just examples from the top of my head. I don’t mean “never allow technology to “””progress””” (I use that word veeeeery loosely because it has huge imperialistic undertones). I mean instead of trashing the fun parts of bending to make way for Decopunk technology that doesn’t need bending, work with it! Get creative! This worldbuilding feels... too easy. When Avatar: The Last Airbender was praised for its worldbuilding.

I adore Decopunk. I enjoy it far more than Dieselpunk and it’s much less known that Steampunk. But it has no place in the Avatar world.

2) That doesn’t mean “remove Republic City”.

First of all, it should honestly have a better name. It’s kind of like naming a city “Democracy City”. Which is way too on the nose. Harmony City sounds better, and that’s the first thing that came to mind. Anyway.

I really like the idea of a city being built in the spirit of Iroh and the White Lotus. To allow the Four Nations to live together in harmony in one city. But why is Republic City literally New York City with an “““Asian””” flair? What is up with that? I know New York is the MOST Decopunk city ever (you can’t encounter anything Decopunk without seeing New York, with its Art Deco buildings, the Harlem Renaissance, the Prohibition, etc.). But they do NOTHING with it! They just take New York, change some names, add some Asian flair, and call it a day. 

I don’t want 1920s New York for Republic City. I want Zootopia.

What happens in a city where all the Four Nations are represented? How does Water, Earth, Fire and Air work together? Big cities tend to be quartered in neighborhoods, so each neighborhood could be a smaller version of their nation. We could have a Northern Water Tribe next to an Earth Kingdom next to... you know what I mean? Each neighborhood could be a small-scale introduction to the nation for Korra first, then you can send her to that nation afterwards!

Which leads us to this.

3) Have Korra follow a traditional Avatar’s journey. 

I really don’t know why they decided that Korra would learn three elements before the age of sixteen (when that’s the age Avatars usually START their journeys) and then only have her learn Airbending during the entire show. Wasn’t the structure of each Book being about Aang learning one element at a time a good structure? Why go out of their way to NOT do that? Why was it the White Lotus’ prerogative to train the Avatar in the first place, too?  

So let’s have Korra know waterbending first (and show Katara teaching her, please!), then she can learn Earth, Fire and Air. By going to the Earth Kingdom, to the Fire Nation, and to the Air Temples. This could help develop each nation and show us how they have grown through the years. And it could lead Korra and the audience to figure out that there’s not only Aang who has had children to represent the Air Nomads, but there were other Air Nomads who survived the genocide and we can actually see the Air Nomads as a thriving culture.

So about Republic City. As I said, we could keep it. But now that Korra is going on a traditional Avatar journey, you could have, say, one episode at the beginning and one episode at the end of each season taking place in Republic City. To show us how each Nation’s neighborhood works and as an introduction to Korra before she actually takes the plunge to travel to that nation. 

Please! Build upon the Avatar world at large more! Come on!

4) Stop it with the love triangles. 

Many have talked about the Mako, Korra, Bolin and Asami love triangles. I’ve read once that they don’t exactly feel like friends, they’re only colleagues who share the fact they all dated Korra at one point. Which is sad. Knowing that the Gaang is so beloved because they’re such GOOD FRIENDS first!

So work to build strong, healthy friendships first, THEN start thinking about romance if you have to. And please, if you want a ship to be endgame, don’t have it so you have to confirm it on Twitter. 

Don’t.

Oh! And also. Bolin and Eska’s relationship was unhealthy as all hell and treated as “funny” and “comic relief” because a woman was being emotionally abusive to a man. That’s terrible. Please don’t do that.

5) Don’t let Katara fall to the side like she did. 

Many, MANY before me have talked about how Katara got the short end of the stick in LOK. Where’s her statue? Where’s her recognition as the Greatest Waterbender in the World? Why is she day in and day out in the healing hut, when she said “I don’t want to heal, I want to FIGHT”? Does she even have a waterbending school? Or is that completely fanon? Why does she allow Aang to take one of their children on life-changing field trips while leaving their other kids behind? Aren’t they also Air Nomads by birth??

It’s okay to worship the old Gaang because, well, we all love them! I do love Aang, even if I give him a hard time a lot, but I love the character. I just don’t like the way Book 3 Aang was written. But some characters shouldn’t have everything while others have nothing. Aang is LITERALLY THE STATUE OF LIBERTY. But where was Katara’s statue? And also, what happened to Suki?? What happened to Mai or Ty Lee, too?? Or even Sokka?? He died some time ago and... that’s it??

Which brings us to this.

6) Zutara, Taang, Sukka and Mailee.

I’ve seen that picture of Toph, Aang, Sokka and Katara being edited with Zuko and Katara next to each other, Toph and Aang next to each other, and a (suddenly alive!) Suki next to Sokka. I think that’s so good! It feels so healthy!

Not all relationships that started when people were kids work out. Sokka and Suki seem the strongest relationship at the end of the show and they’re probably the only ones I could see working out in the end. Sokka could become the Southern Water Tribe Chief and Suki could become his Queen when she’s retired from the Kyoshi Warriors.

Katara and Aang would be lifelong friends, of course they would be, but I don’t really see them lasting. Aang was twelve when they started dating. They’d date a few years, then they’d decide they want other things. That’s a good thing to show kids!

I’ve written many metas about Zutara, but Ambassador then Fire Lady Katara would show a changing world, where the Fire Nation, now no longer a war industry but a Steampunk country, is moving forward, with Zuko literally marrying a woman the Fire Nation tried to wipe out. They would be equals and leave an equal mark upon the world. Together.

Toph and Aang would be amazing together. They’d be a great team, working in the Earth Kindom, helping rebuild the old Temples when the Air Nomads came out of hiding, and bringing peace around the world. I don’t think they’d be a conventional relationship. They’d do their own thing for a while, find each other for a while, work together on some projects, then continue doing their own thing. Aang being the Avatar who travels the world and Toph teaching metalbenders and working with the King in Ba Sing Se and Bumi in Omashu and wherever she’s needed. I think Toph would be much more fulfilled than what we’ve seen of elderly Katara. She doesn’t have Katara’s abandonment issues (I’ve talked about them here) and she’s more independent, I believe.

I know I haven’t talked about them much yet, but I want Mai and Ty Lee together in the end. Badass ladies challenging their respective stereotypes and create a new world for themselves. Mai could find herself away from the Fire Nation court (I don’t know what she’d do, but circuses love people who throw knives, don’t they? She could be a circus performer for a while), and I think Ty Lee, in this version, could work at the circus and with Aang to rebuild the Air Nomads. I love the idea of Ty Lee being a descendant of the Air Nomads.

All of them should be shown creating Zootopia-like Republic City. Because of course they should be! They’re the Gaang!

So yeah, that’s how I would see the world of Avatar grow beyond the borders of the original show! :)

Season 4, Episode 4 - Mr Pigeon 72

I have no idea where to start. This episode has some good things and some extremely stupid.

Marinette isn't still completely fine, but I prefer when she deals with it through being hyperactive than being a whining crybaby.

I know people don't agree with me, but personally I don't buy the whole revealing identity to Alya. It's not a problem with Alya herself, I would say the same about every single character who is not named Alix Kubdel at this point of the story. I haven't written anything in my post about Gang of Secrets, because I thought it would be undone in some way at the start of the next episode. The creators did nothing to explain why revealing identity of Ladybug to anyone was super dangerous and would result in a catastrophe in seasons 1-3 and the first two episodes of S4, but it's magically fine in episode 3. Only Alix made sense to me, as she will be the rabbit Miraculous holder, so she is destined to discover identities of everyone sooner or later and Marinette is aware of that. While it's not necessary to learn identity of anyone to other temporary Miraculous wielders, including Alya. Also that reveal hasn't been foreshadowed in season 3, while the show usually does it, especially if it's about something as important as that! More, in late S3, it's been shown that Alya still can't resist to not talking about Marinette's love life with Nino, despite she asked her to not do it. Now the girl, who is overly excited about superhero stuff, has no problems with even accidental revealing anything to Nino or someone else. She's even "stealing" Bunnix line that she's great at keeping secrets (sorry but you, the creators, haven't shown us that she's indeed is before!). This is why I think that reveal hasn't been planned before they started writing season 4.

But okay, I can deal with it, even if I don't buy it, but things these happened in Mr. Pigeon 72 are even more inconsistent with previous seasons. I have been worried about it, so it doesn't surprised me. For some reason Guardian related-things that have been kept in a secret before from everyone minus current Guardian and the future Guardian, are now fine being done in front of Kwamis (remember, they haven't been allowed to learn about making potions before!) and a civilian who is just a temporal Miraculous holder, not someone who is supposed to be trained to be a new Guardian. You can say - new Guardian, new rules, but why? Marinette has been portrayed as someone who respect authorities, she has never questioned any Fu's rules. It wasn't even said in the episode that she's going to change the rules. I hate that the writers don't even bother to explain us what's going on. Probably they don't bother about consistency, they think the audience is going to be too excited about Alya knowing Ladybug's identity and helping Marinette to question anything about it? How Alya could be allowed to learn the Guardian secrets? She is just best friend of the protagonist, she is not one of the main characters to get that special treatment. I makes zero sense to me. Especially since Su-Han will be introduced in episode 6 and he should help Marinette with understanding the Grimoire, Alya isn't necessary here for any other reason than fanservice.

In my opinion the way how they discovering how to make charms that protects from akumasitation was the most stupid thing that happened this season and one of the most in the whole show. Marinette who is the new Guardiand and portrayed as someone extreme intelligent and creative couldn't find the solution for days, but Alya with zero training magically discovered it in a few hours at worst. And when she told her the solution in not even very clear way, Ladybug did it immediately with no effort. That was so anticlimactic. At least the animation was fine, but other aspects of it was just a big disappointment, and I was looking forward for it. Thank goodness it's just the beginning of the season, I hope later important events of the season will be better written and portrayed.

Also I find it absurd that Rena Rough is walking with a page from the Grimoire like it's just an ordinary book and she's talking about it in front of a random civilian, like things that are written there are nothing special. She or Ladybug are not careful about Miraculous lore anymore. Not to mention that they are giving hints that Rena is very close to Ladybug in public, suspiciously close. And now with them being too careless, that's not hard to suspect that Rena Rouge is someone very close to Ladybug, maybe even as a civilian. Shadow Moth knows Rena Rouge's identity, and it's easy to him to learn who is Alya Cesaire's best friend if he doesn't know it yet, after all his son is in the class with her. Marinette has always been super careful and serious about her duties before, why that sudden change with zero explanation? It's just very out of character to her in my opinion.

I didn't like the akuma battle either, it's now the worst fight of the season in my opinion. It was so short and felt very lazy. I only liked that Plagg got some action and interaction with Ladybug (though it should be suspicious for her that he managed to reach to her that fast). He should be aware now that Alya knows Ladybug's identity but he acts like nothing happened. Not a word about it being unfair towards his kid or something, weird.

Thankfully the rest of the episode is generally more or less fun to me. It was nice to see Marinette and Kagami interacting again. I loved Kagami in the episode, although it was a bit weird to me that she isn't seemed to be affected by her breaking up with Adrien. Like her crush was very shallow, so she managed to recover herself from it very quickly. While it's been shown that Luka is hurt, despite Lukanette always seemed to be much more shallow than Adrigami in my opinion. But maybe it's because she's so down to earth, so being less emotional makes sense for her character. I liked how her attitude was opposite to Marinette's hyperactive: "No, I don't want to be in a relationship with Adrien again, he disappointed me, just let me live!!!". And she's another character who said that Marinette and Adrien are made for each other. I'm not surprised that Kagami sees it now when she tried to be with him and that didn't work. She's observant, sees more than many other characters. It seems she's an Adrienette shipper now. It's also good that her issue with Adrien wasn't resolved that easily and too fast. They need more time, but I'm sure they will be friends again.

So, we've gotten shirtless Adrien. I remember seeing a tweet of Thomas in which he answered to a question if there will be a beach episode and he said we will get something similar. I wonder if he meant this episode. Oh, they just remembered that Adrien is supposed to be allergic to feathers. It seems Adrien has allergic reactions only when it's somewhat related to the plot. When it's not, he's completely fine.

The reference to the famous Umbrella Scene™ out of nowhere in a random episode? It probably means something. I can see "reverse crush" supporters interpreting it as a proof to their theory, especially since this time Adrien did something clumsy and Marinette is laughing because of it (actually both of them). Or maybe because it's the first episode of season 4 with Marinette and Adrien interactions, they decided to be that much gracious for Adrienette fans, to compensate lack of it in the first three episodes. Oh wow, Marinette managed to propose spending more time together to Adrien without stuttering. Probably because she has done it spontaneously. Marinette is the most nervous when she's planning and thinking what could go wrong too much. This time she had no time to it, so it went more smoothly. It's like they building development of their relationship, but it didn't seem in Guiltrip (that's episode 11 chronologically) that something changed.

Seeing screenshot above, you can easily imagine how great friends they could be, being very comfortable around each other and laughing together, if not Marinette's anxiety. We need Adrienette development so much to get more moments like this.

Oh and I just realized that it's also one of the veeeeery few episodes with no real Ladynoir at all (the only other one I remember is Style Queen). So if there was no Adrienette it would be an episode without interactions of two main characters at all (although we almost got Ladrien). It could be another reason why this episode is that nice for Adrien and Marinette ship.

After seeing overly excited Marinette dancing in the rain, I can't believe she can manage completely give up on Adrien. It doesn't look like this at all.

Also we've seen three photos of Adrien wearing THAT scarf. It could not mean nothing different that foreshadowing that he's going to discover the truth about it somewhere this season. But I have no idea what Ladybug's mask with shining eyes could mean.

I don't know what to think about the episode. Despite absurd Guardian-related things, I still liked it much more than Gang of Secrets, but I have no idea if I generally enjoyed it more than other episodes of this season or not. At least it's an episode without stupid drama, which is amazing.

I'm currently less active on social media, because my internet connection is very unstable, it often works very slowly to the point I'm not patient enough to visit Tumblr. Also I block spoiler tags again, because I don't want to see spoilers from the episodes those are going to be released very soon, as I feel that they reveal too much to me once more. We're currently in a marathon of the new episodes and since watching them is the more more enjoyable, the less I know about them, I decided to try avoid spoilers as much as I can. The only bad thing is that I can't be read discussions about the new episodes, reblog them and adding something from me until Optigami will be aired.

Thoughts on Sen Çal Kapımı bölüm 13: (Is it 13? I almost feel like Kerem because hatırlamıyorum.) My babies Serkan/Eda: I loved that they both finally confessed to their families and were pretty much like, “He/she is going to be part of my live and if you don’t accept it, byyyyyye.” as well as the “Sevgilim?” after. They had so many cute adorable scenes, from the “How are you real? Let’s elope.” to “I’ll be your breath whenever you want me to.” to “I already bought a house in Rome.” Special shoutout to the curtain commercial because we all know what happened that night 😏 , although they clowned us with that fragman again. What I didn’t like when I first watched it without subs was the jealousy and especially Serkan storming out after his argument with Eda. It was so unlike Serkan. However after watching with subs, I realized he wasn’t angry because he was jealous but because Eda didn’t believe he was serious about Italy. Him walking about still wasn’t a 100% Serkan but the supposed jealousy didn’t create as much of a problem as I initially thought it would. Hopefully they keep it that way. I hated the whole jealousy thing in EK and could do without here, tbh. Eda/the firm: So Eda doesn’t even have a bachelor’s degree? I’m sorry but even if she was about to finish her Master’s, her “rank” in the firm would be very questionable but with her not even having her undergrad, it’s so far-fetched. To a point, Serkan gave her those projects because he was taken with her, yes, but early robot!Serkan wouldn’t have let that interfere with his work to that extent. No distinguished architect with a firm worth millions would EVER give work this important to a student still working on her undergrad. I guess this is just one of the many architecture-related things I’ll have to accept for the sake of creative liberty and story telling. Serkan/Selin: I honestly wasn’t mad about their scenes. While she has done some shady shit, I think they might veeeeery slowly get back to a place of friendship, and I’d love that for the both of them. Serkan could use her support in work-related issues as well as what’s going to happen in his personal life. Serkan/Leyla: We got some more info about their relationship and it honestly made me tear up. He paid for her operation, her sister’s education and constantly checked on her during that time. Serkan Bolat has such a tender heart, it continues to surprise and amaze me. He said that Eda made him a better person but I’m gonna be the cheeseball that says he’s always been a really good person, he just kept it a secret. Same with his donation to the orphanage. Ask me again why I am so soft for this boy and I’ll give you a 30 pages long essay! Ferit: Can my dude just shut up for once? Why does he wear his heart on his sleeve and literally tell anyone everything?! Efe: He said he was made to buy the shares by someone – grandma? Ayfer/Aydan: Listen, I have been defending them both for the longest time. They’re both very protective of their children and they both only try to keep them from the heartbreak they know lies ahead. They’re not wrong in that and I understand their intentions... buhuuuut they’re overdoing it a little. I’m not saying “Overprotective mothers are so not 2020” like a lot of people on twitter because that’s bs imo, but the two of them could definitely reel it back in a little. Melo/Selin: Oh Melo, I love her so much! She’s so soft and I wanna wrap her in a hug and never let go. Selin almost doesn’t deserve Melo being so nice to her because of Eda’s backstory with her, but then again I love how Melo doesn’t let that cloud her judgement and gives her the support she needs. Melo is the best. I said what I said. Editing: The editing felt kinda sloppy, ngl, especially the end. From Serkan to just leaving Eda like that, which again was unlike him, to the random jump to their first night – although I loved the fact that we know they had their first night - to Alptekin spilling the beans... it felt pieced together. However, I suppose it was the best they could do considering the shooting and working conditions during the week they shot it. The last scene: Oh, the goddamn last scene that ripped my heart out, stomped on it, ran it over with a truck and then threw it in the trash. So, on the one hand I understand that Alptekin told Serkan in an attempt to salvage whatever is left of their father/son relationship by being honest with him. He didn’t want to hide this very important piece of information from him when it concerned what, or more like who has become the most important part of his life in such a short amount of time, I get that and to a point I agree with it. Honesty has to be a given in any family or relationship. On the other hand I’m like, why now? He didn’t really get involved in anything regarding his son’s life in the last 19 years, so why now? Alptekin had “no issue” hiding this secret from the world for so long and the likelihood of it coming out now just because Serkan is in a relationship with Eda is questionable, so why? He claims he wants the best for Serkan but there’s also some selfishness in involved in telling him. Alptekin wants to unburden himself from this ugly truth he’s been hiding, to get it off his chest because with Eda around it’s to much for him now. It was ok for 19 years but now it’s too much. As a result, his son now has to carry it around with him. He was allowed to be happy for all of two days and and now this weight is so much bigger than the weight that had seemingly been lifted off his chest by confessing to Eda. I know he’s going to blame himself for this somehow and distance himself from her, and I am already in pain just from thinking about how that is going to play out. With Eda saying, “Sometimes love isn’t enough” we’ve gotten some very obvious foreshadowing and I think that he will convince himself that he and his family are no good for her and no matter how much he loves her, it’s not enough to make up for that. God, it actually really hurts to just think about that. (Also, with the amount of times we’ve heard “I can’t live without you,” I’m speculating about what Serkan’s state will look like after the separation. Shots are on me if I hear something along the lines of, “Ever since Eda/you left, he’s stopped living. He is alive but he is not living his life at all.” after their separation.) Anyway, lastly I’m going to say that it felt like Kerem didn’t know what to do with his hands during this scene but I think it was probably just to show how Serkan doesn’t fully comprehend what just happened yet or how to react to this information AT ALL. The “rest” of Kerem’s acting in this scene, the small nuiances from realizing to absolute horror and then devastation killed me. Chapeau for that, Kerem Bey!

hi! I totally agreed with your analysis on misogyny in the witcher content! one point on the Netflix edit note though, how did you see geralt coercing yennefer into sex? do you mean the djinn wish? the same one from the books?

yes! that scene was veeeeery different in the books. well, the entire story was different in the books. geralt and yennefer are two entirely different people. they’re good people in the books, and in the netflix series, they’re... well, as geralt in netflix said best for himself, “hm.”

in the entire story, their relationship is different and more equal, with both of them trying to pull a fast one on the other, so to speak, and then paying for it. the context surrounding geralt making the wish was also different. they weren’t trapped in a bedroom with yennefer fully vouueristically naked for the viewers to enjoy (??), they were chasing the djinn across the city of rinde, teleporting into a dinner party, and all of these things, fighting side-by-side, and also fighting with one another. but geralt also goes to assist yennefer because he knows that he would be responsible for her death had he not intervened, because he was the one that had the wishes. this means that they are on much more equal footing than in netflix, geralt does not hold all of the power and vigor in their relationship.

in the books, the wish was different. yennefer HEARD his wish, aloud, she knew what he wished for and she reacted to it. like in the netflix adaptation, the audience doesn’t hear geralt’s wish, and doesn’t know what it ever was, but from yennefer’s reaction, we can glean that it was 1) about yennefer 2) a genuinely good wish that would have been inoffensive to her, something that she took as a sincere act of selflessness.

in the netflix adaptation however, they just begin to argue and then fuck senselessly and immediately after the djinn leaves them alone. it’s very uncomfortable because they do not communicate about their intentions and it’s treated as very a “in the heat of the moment” type of thing, which isn’t the most healthy considering that they just got done arguing with each other and were about to die. they carry very little sincere appreciation and respect for one another, and it’s not clear to yennefer what geralt’s intentions are, or what his wish even was. 

after they finish having sex in the netflix series, which wasn’t even good sex, apparently (UNLIKE in the short story, where they are tender and gentle and take a long time... sorry to get into that detail, but it’s significant because it shows that geralt actually cares a lot for yennefer and her pleasure, when in the netflix series he literally treats her like just a toy, she literally comments “that was short,” lol), geralt comments “my plan worked,” which is... one of the most horrifying things you can hear after sex! sincerely, what the fuck. that is pretty repulsive on its own, but the other issue with it is that he doesn’t respond to any of yennefer’s questions after this, just goes silent sleeping or pretending to be asleep. she’s clearly uncertain and needs reassurance, asking him what the wish was, and she never receives any response from him. in addition, apparently in netflix geralt LEFT HER THERE, on the floor of the destroyed building, immediately after he woke up. in the books, they then begin a committed relationship that involves them living together for 4 years in vengerburg, and geralt only leaves after those 4 years because they had legitimate couple qualms (they are still both pretty immature during this point in the series).

so yeah. in the books it was entirely consensual, with the terms agreed upon, with both parties knowing the same amount of information and having the same amount of power. in the netflix series, geralt manipulates yennefer by wishing for SOMETHING, we don’t know what, and then saying “my plan worked” immediately after nutting. it’s one of the many changes that netflix made that churns my stomach. and people want to discuss misogyny in the witcher books as if the witcher netflix doesn’t have ANY misogyny in it. they both offend, but while the books offend occassionally in the forms of bad comments or scenes that are easily skippable, the witcher netflix sincerely has misogyny baked into its storyline, characterization, and character relationships.

(under the cut is a preface i begun to write but realized halfway through that it was mostly irrelevant and i was getting off-topic).

to genuinely compare these two ending scenes, we legitimately have to run through differences throughout the entire story. the first thing i’d like to mention is that geralt is a pretty selfless and goodnatured person in the books, which i’ve discussed before earlier today. in the beginning of the story, he and dandelion had been travelling together, and were fishing together in the morning because they didn’t have any breakfast (they are constantly poor and starving) and dandelion found the amphora by sheer luck (only after he loses a large catfish, though). geralt and dandelion argue over the amphora only because geralt tries to prevent dandelion from tampering with it without being careful, since it could have been (and was) quite dangerous. dandelion, being arrogant, chooses to throw caution to the wind as always and demand his wishes from the djinn (indeed, he only states two before the djinn chokes him out, and “no one ever found out dandelion’s third wish.”) geralt then shows an overwhelming amount of concern and sacrifice for dandelion’s condition and rides for a day and a night to rinde to find a healer. once he learns that there is a sorceress in town, he becomes preoccupied with trying to get her to help dandelion.

in the netflix series, geralt is fishing on his own, purposefully searching for a djinn, to break his bond with his child (... ok). jaskier joins him after “tracking him down,” because this man just apparently is so vile he cannot stand having a companion, and geralt isn’t very happy to have his company. already, just from this beginning scene, you can see that geralt in the books and geralt in the netflix series are two very different characters. i preface with all of this stuff about geralt’s character, because this makes a LARGE difference in his relationship with yennefer later on.

then, yennefer and geralt do NOT meet in a weird fucking orgy in the books, where geralt insensitively drags jaskier in by the collar. they have a much more realistic meeting in which yennefer actually holds the power in the conversation. geralt leaves dandelion under medical attention and goes to talk to yennefer one-on-one. yennefer tries to turn him into KFW (kentucky fried witcher) and shoots sparks at his ass for interrupting her hangover sleep, geralt explains the situation... there is no weird gratuitous shot of yennefer totally naked in a bathtub! she turns invisible and geralt feels self-concious because he’s the only one visibly naked.

Genuine curiosity here. I'm a Bellarke and I wonder why my fandom thinks B/E isn't solid and maybe they broke up off screen.. To me their 6x12 reunion felt heartfelt and just because they didn't kiss doesn't mean they drift apart? At least in my opinion. People say their reunion was more platonic than all of Bellarke's reunions and hugs and.. I don't see it. What about you? I mean I get it people are looking for clues to hold onto but at this point Bellamy is choosing Echo willingly and I get it

They didn't break up off screen and I wouldn't say they are solid either. I think people down played the B/E reuined in 6x12 for sure, but I also don't think B/E are solid. My opinion is not that I don't see how absolutely awful B/E is but how I do not for one single second trust Jason to follow through or deliver on what people expect from the narrative. Season after season, you think you are following the narrative path, you check the boxes, you see the story yet season after season, nothing changes other than more obstacles and less communication and relationship depth.

For two seasons, 26 episodes worth of screen time, of energy, time and money, they still have not done anything with either Bellarke or B/E. You can argue that they have but in my opinion, by the end of 6x13, we are no closer to any real meaningful conversation between either Bellarke or B/E than we were in 5x13. People in this fandom keep talking about how "there's no time" as if time is not something the writers don't control. These stories don't just exist around us. They are produced and written by writers and Jason. And Jason has not written the time for either Bellarke or B/E because he simply doesn't want to.

In 6x11, after all that Bellamy did to bring Clarke back, Clarke still talks about Madi and Echo as "people they love" and therefor must protect or "people they love" that could have died if Bellamy hadn't made the choices he made. In Clarke's mind, even after ALL OF SEASON 6, she still believes that Bellamy loves and cares about ECHO as HIS PERSON, the way Clarke does Madi. Clarke doesn't say "spacekru and Madi" or "Octavia and Madi". She says "Echo and Madi". In Clarke's mind the most important person in Bellamy's life is Echo. And to Clarke, it's Madi. Bellamy does not correct Clarke nor does he give her a reason to think that's not true. He simply doesn't act at all. He does not communicate with Clarke nor does he communicate with Echo. By 6x13, nothing has happened for Clarke to believe ANYTHING has changed for Bellamy. The only thing Clarke knows is that in 6x12, Bellamy ran into Echo's arms and that he was clearly happy to be reunited with Echo. Clarke even apologizes to B/E for cutting their reunion short, indicating that she still belives B/E's reunion is important because they love each other and want to stay wrapped in each other's arms. Clarke feels bad because she thinks Echo is Bellamy's person and she's ruining their moment because they have shit to do.

Bellamy has time and time again WILLINGLY chosen Echo over Clarke. In 5x05. In 5x06. In 5x10. In 5x12. In 6x01. In 6x04. In 6x12. Whatever his reasons, he has stayed with Echo. There's no reason for Clarke to belive that has changed.. because it hasn't. And in the moments when Bellamy has put Clarke first, Clarke has not been made aware of that and Echo has not shown any objection to it either. So Clarke doesn't know and Echo sees no problems.

Echo meanwhile has been made out to look like a fool and stupid. But she apparently is not. People in this fandom say Echo knows about Bellamy's love for Clarke but, in my opinion, there is nothing that really tells us that. Echo has not said or shown any reaction to Bellarke. Not even a glance. She's ran into Bellamy's arms, no matter if Bellamy orders her around, or if he's even left her behind. She has never questioned Bellamy, not with Clarke and not about leaving her and or spacekru behind. Again, fandom says "there is no time" and I suppose writing the time was not Jason's priority.

So no, I don't think B/E is solid. I think Bellamy is a lousy boyfriend. I think Bellamy is emotionally cheating on Echo. I think Bellamy is not being emotionally honest with Clarke either which is ironic considering the fact that he yelled at Echo for not being emotionally open and honest. I don't think Clarke is aware that Bellamy is even an option and I personally don't think Bellamy even thinks he is an option to Clarke. I don't think Bellamy has realized that he is in love with Clarke and even if a small part of him has accepted that he might be, Clarke has not given Bellamy a reason to believe that she is an option to him either. And that's entirely Bellamy's fault. He is not being emotionally honest with Clarke so she has no reason to make herself available to him nor has he indicated to her that he'd even be interested in her availability even if Echo wasn't in the picture. Bellamy is the one with a whole ass girlfriend. Clarke has absolutely no reason to do anything.

Which just makes status quo.. stay status quo. Clarke knows nothing and will not act on anything. For good reasons. Bellamy is emotionally cheating on Echo yet not being emotionally honest with Clarke. And he has not and won't act on anything with Clarke, in order to stay loyal to Echo and because he doesn't even know Clarke is an option. Clarke doesn't present herself as an option because Bellamy has not shown himself to be interested in her being an option. We keep doing this season after season..

And Echo. She's continued staying by Bellamy's side as his loyal spy and his girlfriend. She has been left behind by her master and by her boyfriend. She has been left to fight for herself while he fought for another woman. And still she has done and said nothing to question that or challenge that. She simply takes her place slightly behind her master/boyfriend as if nothing has happened and all that Bellamy has done is what a good and loyal boyfriend does to his girlfriend. Status quo...

Do I think there's still a season left to deal with all of this? Sure. Do I think they'll have to use the anomaly to bend time or use time jumps in order to deal with this entire mess and especially Bellamy's passivity? Veeeeery much so. If Bellarke has a chance in hell, they're gonna have to bend time so hard, someone is either gonna have to die, live on a whole ass other planet for 50 years or come out of the anomaly an old lady/man while the rest of them are young.

Bellamy's passivity is not sexy or responsible. Clarke's constant pain and "unlucky in love", is not empowering or female strength. Echo's oblivion is not self love or dignity. All of which makes this so called love triangle unbearable in quality and depth but it also make all three characters unsympathetic.

As for Effie, my hc is that she is really really experienced. First because in the Capitol sex is kind of a hobby and then because it’s Effie and I just think she likes sex and there’s nothing wrong with that. She’s very free with it and she’s probably tried everything at least once maybe even stuff she wasn’t that much into because she wanted to please her partner or because it was fashionable or whatever. Point is she knows her stuff.

It doesn’t mean she’s not into vanilla too from time to time (and particularly post mj in a book setting I think it would be vanilla for a very long time) but yeah she probably likes it with some little more flavors. Rough clearly does it for her (or maybe it’s rough with Haymitch that does it for her) and I think she would be game for a little more playing like handcuffs and stuff but since H won’t, she doesn’t insist.

In my hc, she does like a little spanking and role-playing. She doesn’t mind being spoken dirty to either. In short, I think she would dance on the “play easy” side of BDSM but shy away from harder stuff. This being said, she would definitely do anything her partner wants if she cares enough to keep them. It’s just who she is and the Capitol being the Capitol, you have to please or be discarded so it’s really fucked up. She’s not always submissive in the bedroom either. I think she’s very dominant and often relents because Haymitch outstubborns her but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t win somtimes. That’s part of what make their relationship rough, they both want to be in control, she’s just the one who can live without it. Haymitch, when not in control, tends to panic for various reason relating to his past.

I think it’s also important that Haymitch doesn’t really put any pressure on her when it comes to sex so she’s freer to demand what she wants and he might occasionally humor her into kinky stuff (though pain is a no go for him, anything involving that has no place in his bedroom). She’s also into food play, something else that makes him go meh but he indulges from time to time.

8. Favorite trope to write.

Ha, gosh. Let’s see. I just finished writing a scene where they are both so blatantly wanting to jump each other’s bones and they are both utterly oblivious to it, and I find that SO much fun to write. But as long as it doesn’t go on for too long. I’ve been traumatized too many times as a child by slow burn fics (some of them are great and amazing, sometimes they’re slow burn 100K leading up to….a paragraph of kissing and that’s it. TRAUMATIZED.) but writing these two intelligent psychopaths being so oblivious to the other’s boner makes me laugh even as i write,

e v e r y o n e i thrive on comments, it’s actually probably really bad of me. i probably shouldn’t put all my worth onto whether or not enough people leave feedback, as that seems like a very dangerous way for a writer to live. but half the time, i’ll write something particularly filthy just to murder @jadedbirch, or come up with a cool metaphor just to impress @reluming. it makes me happy to make others happy.

other times, i’ll write after reading or watching something else, and it could be totally unrelated to what i’m writing, but if it’s something really well done, i’ll be like “i WANNA DO THAT TOO!!!!” and if it’s terribly written, i’ll be like “I CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT!!!!!!!” like yesterday, before finally writing the beginnings of my Book, i had just watched the latest episode of American Gods and i was FLOORED by how good the writing was, i just had to do it too. i had to GET ON THAT LEVEL. and then this evening while eating dinner, i watched some braincandy dccu tv show on netflix that is so….simple? like i enjoy it but it is candy (especially in comparison to BS and AG) and i was like “jfc i need to use my time better coming up with more intelligent things than this” and so i wrote pirate fic. 

26. Standalone or series, and why?

ah, I actually prefer writing standalone. i never intended to write anything as a series! the first one i did was that pirate aesthetic trilogy, and they were supposed to just be porn codas (although the third def has plenty of story). 

i only ever wrote a second orange fic because it had taken off in ways i had never ever expected and i was so overwhelmed by the response. you can only say “thanks!!” so many times before it sounds unmeaning (even though i DO mean it every. single. time.) i wanted to write a short little thing of them living comfortably, and do some more porn for it since i always felt the sex scene at the end of st. augustine is that way wasn’t as good as i could have done. and then i got a couple of asks for more, and then i had a couple ideas for more, and then it became a Safe Space for me during a cold winter and a fraught season 4. 

but i like standalones because my favorite thing to do is to get them together!! that’s why i veeeeery rarely write canon ships. getting couples together is the best part!!!!!!!!!! you can make it different each time!! and it’s a fun challenge to work with canon, you know? i have to make it believable that they get together for the first time in 2x2, and then try to make it just as believable that they get together for the first time in 2x4 in another fic, and then just as believable in the middle of season 3, or in the middle of season 4, or five and a half years after canon, and trying to get that to be believable each time, when in other stories i try to form it like it could and should have easily happen at different times – it’s all part of the fun, y’know? i don’t think i’m making sense, i took a sleeping pill like an ago. but anyway, you’ll probably never catch me writing a standalone established relationship fic. i enjoy them being stupidly infatuated before finally giving into temptation too much!!

HOO BOY imma spam u with a lot of them that i watched and loved there’s a lot so this goes under the cut sorry for the wall of text:

reply 1988(!!!!!), reply 1997 - (havent seen reply 1994) both are very heartfelt and really make you feel for the main characters and really dive into the Zeitgeist, their humor is pretty silly and some of the plot is based on a love triangle, but honestly the kind that doesn’t annoy TOO much. 1988 is THE BEST drama i’ve ever watched i honestly Will Tear Up if i hear a song that was an ost for it… it’s not just fixed on the love lines but also shows you the characters as people, tells more about the parents of the main characters and kinda makes you understand all the people that surround the leads and not just leave them 2-dimensional person cutouts with a quirk like a lot of other dramas are guilty of,  which i really appreciate….. a MUST

age of youth - sometimes funny sometimes real, it’s about 5 girls that room together, how they get along (or don’t) about their lives and how different they are. a good watch

school 2013 - lovely drama about the hardships of a high-schooler without any (!) love lines!!! tbh tho has a v heavily implied one between the two male characters played by lee jongsuk and kim woobin (if you look at everything through gay glasses like i do ahahaha) it doesn’t have too many tacky cliche kdrama things in it so i appreciate that

doctor stranger - to continue on my lee jongsuk spree (i lob him) this drama!.. it’s wild tbh! it does have the tackiness and cliches but tbh?? it’s worth it…. if you like genius doctors and north korean spies and this sort of thing this is the drama for you

it’s okay it’s love - lovely drama that touches upon issues of mental health and makes you genuinely care for the main two characters!

my love from another star - THE kdrama to watch.. tacky cliched but funny and heartbreaking.. i avoided it for so long because it was very popular and i feared it’s another Heirs (*shudder*) but it’s everything you would want from a kdrama tbh! alien with superpowers, evil ceo’s and all of that junk

signal - crime drama if you’re into those, very interesting plot about a detective from today talking with a detective from the past through a walkie talkie. REALLY good casting like i loved the characters and how the actors portrayed them

weighlifting fairy kim bukjoo - pros: cute and hilarious. cons: makes u wanna have a bf/gf SO BAD!!!! veeeeery good drama!!!!!!!!

moon lovers - lmao…. its’’ interesting… it was the first period drama i ever watched (technically the main character is transported back in time but n e ways) and i was on a weird rush waiting every week for the next episode so idk if i can judge it objectively.. but it was rlly good the princes are all super handsome and i quite enjoyed the production value of their costumes sets and shots.. be warned itll break ur heart

next are a few that i either havent finished or would rate as a 4:

healer - i never finished this one bc.. idk…. i got distracted i guess?? but it’s VERY good, a lil tacky a lil funny, a lil thrillery, a lil romancey, keeps a good balance between these imo

goblin - the HIT of the season which i was too disinterested to finish tbh ahahah… i’m not saying it’s bad it’s just i personally had beef with goblin’s character (hes a DOUCHE), but even if you don’t like him like i do it’s still worth watching for the side-romance (*for the grim reaper :3 )

w two worlds - another lee jongsuk drama with a very cool idea abt manhwa characters living in a parallel world and sometimes being able to pass here and viceversa, but imo got too dramatic at some point so i dropped it, but some people liked it all the way through so!

i hear your voice - never finished it bc the age difference of the 2 main characters didnt sit right with me, but like, its lee jongsuk :3 

misaeng - postponed it indefinitely and mb dropped it?? but it’s very sweet but maybe not too eventful, talks about office life and relationships you build there, pretty good one

kill me heal me - i actually finished this one but WITH SO MUCH PAIN!!! the light comedy segments of it are v good, and the plot is pretty interesting (abt a man with dissociative identity disorder). but the drama/plot part is SO OBNOXIOUS like you’ll have to watch the same flashback shots at least 5 times in every episode and it takes them THE ENTIRE SHOW to get to the ~big reveal~ instead of like… talking once.. to each other… a lot of ppl liked it but i personally dont recommend

the lover* - the * is bc it’s hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe not really a drama but like short comedy sketches but in a drama-ish format?? their humor is very Hit or Miss, but if it’s a hit you get to watch a canonically gay relationship (*crush) :^)

1. Hitori Kakurenbo is a Japanese ritual where you get this teddy bear and after doing a number of steps, you play hide and seek with it, with the teddy bear trying to seek you in order to kill you. Basically, you allowed a spirit to possess the teddy bear. 

2. I knew it through a lovely horror RPG game called Paranormal Syndrome and took inspiration of changing my mun name from “Beary-mun” to “Para Bear”, “para” being the short term of “paranormal”
