#but that’s just unnecessary fearmongering

How are you anti-psychiatry when you're for pathologizing and prescribing damaging, medically unnecessary drugs for people who are GNC. Your true self doesn't lie on a surgeon's table or a pill.
i am not for pathologizing being trans at all actually and i think that its inclusion in the dsm is one of the most glaring proofs that the dsm should be set on fire ♥️ just because hormones are a part of many trans ppl's journeys doesn't mean transness needs to be medicalized. hrt is usually not damaging (and care can be taken to ensure this is the case without fearmongering or shaming) + allows for many ppl to have a greatly enhanced quality of life. my life has been permanently and beautifully changed by testosterone + top surgery has unlocked the possibility of anorexia recovery for me for the first time since i developed an ed at 11.
if you are anti psych- why are you against trans people's right to self-determination? why do you believe that doctors should be able to gatekeep or deny them hrt (even if u think hrt is bad, a liberatory anti psychiatry would affirm their autonomy + right to use drugs that you deem "dangerous" without judgement). why do you believe that gnc ppl should have to retain certain secondary sex traits that you deem "true"? why does your support of gnc ppl end when they want to alter their bodies/pronouns/presentations? why do you believe that trans ppl don't know themselves or are not capable of making informed decisions (sounds like psychiatrist thinking to me lol)?
a liberatory anti psychiatry affirms the right to self-determination in healing for all people, using whichever tools they desire, while creating and maintaining spaces which allow for the use of these tools in the safest and most knowledgeable ways possible. it affirms and celebrates difference as a natural and beautiful part of the human experience + rejects a biomedical model of being which privileges certain biomarkers or genetics as the arbitrators of authenticity or identity. it names and condemns systemic power imbalances + calls for the unconditional liberation of all peoples from all forms of institutional violence.
as you can see here, supporting trans ppl (and being trans myself) is not just a separate opinion i have but rather part of the root of my politic + an unavoidable conclusion of liberatory anti-psychiatry.

Important!
If you know someone from germany - get them to sign this petition!
Some of you might have heard that the government has been working on a Self ID law.
Sounds like a good thing, right? Well..they are fucking up big time because instead of listening to people who would profit from it they were listening to the transphobic bullshit, lies and fearmongering of people who will not have a thing to do with it in any shape or form.
What's so problematic about this new law you might ask.
Let me give you a few short answers. I can go more into detail later if you want me to:
1 - You will have to announce that you want to change your name/gender entry 3 months before you make the application for it. And after that there will be 3 more months until changes come into effect. So half a year wait. For an entry that you could - theoretically speaking - change once a year. Makes no sense tbh. People don't change these things out of fun. There's tons of strings attached to it. You don't do this if you don't really want it.
2 - Another point: There is a paragraph that can be misinterpreted to a disadvantage for trans peopl. Especially for trans women for example when it comes to getting into anything that is "for women". That paragraph is unnecessary and could lead to some really messed up situations.
3 - You're a trans women and got your entry changed (less than) 2 month ago and now there is war? Too bad - your woman status gets revoked. I'm not the only one who sees how problematic this is, right?
4 - There is a lot more shit wrong but I just want to mention one more thing: Your data (old name/entry + new ones, plus some more things) will get transferred to several institutions - if you like it or not.
And a bunch of those institutions are NOT SAFE for queer people thanks to the - still existing - nazi problem in those. Giving nazis a list of data about queer people feels a lot like the "Rosa Liste" back during darker times if you're asking me.
How is anyone supposed to get their official documents changed when you have to fear for what might happen after it?
We NEED a proper self ID law. Not some bullshit that puts queer people under general suspicion!
That didn't even happen with the old, shitty TSG! And let me tell you - the TSG is/was horrible af and there are quite some paragraphes that had to get invalidated per court verdict!

AMON PROPAGANDA
his whole thing was that nonbenders are discriminated against in the avatar-verse, which isn’t all that wrong. except instead of fighting for something like more nonbender representation in government or, y’know, a n y t h i n g reasonable, he decides the way to solve this is clearly to take away people’s bending until… what?
honestly, I never was clear on if he had an actual plan
take away the bending of everyone in republic city? the world? stop at korra? who knows!
anyways. he decides it makes pErFeCt SeNsE that to solve the problem of nonbending discrimination (I honestly don’t think it was as oppressive as he claimed) by taking away peoples bending ability
which is akin to someone stealing your entire identity and for many, livelihood
but the real kicker is
the way he does it
IS BY BENDING
AND NOT EVEN REGULAR BENDING BUT A SUPER SECRET RESTRICTED ILLEGAL FORM OF BENDING
which is EXACTLY the kind of thing he fearmongers about when he says venders have too much power
so his whole platform of “I am one of you (nonbenders), chosen by the spirits to correct this inequality” is complete and utter baloney
ALSO I would like to submit Jet from atla
propaganda!
had all the right intentions of fighting for his nation and all the wrong ways of going about it by:
flooding an entire village which would also harm the earth kingdom people living in the village that he claims he’s protecting
robbing the elderly and defenseless just because they’re fire nation, we don’t even know if he was a colonial official or anyone with power or just some random dude
fixating on zuko and iroh maybe being firebenders instead of like. helping smellerbee and longshot make a living
he did some good things, like arguably taking care of all those children in his forest robin hood lost boys treehouse compound and I’ll even include the food heist on the ship to ba sing se (I feel like it was unnecessary but also really funny and not truly harming anyone so it goes here) but all of that is massively overshadowed by the whole flooding-the-entire-village thing
thank goodness for sokka

for experiences of transandrophobia, of the top of my head and in no particular order (no warnings besides transandrophobia and one mention of suicide baiting, I’ve been fortunate that most of these are just comments, it’s more of a death by 1000 cuts thing for me)
a lot of stuff with my mom post coming out including:
worrying testosterone would make me agressive
asking if I just hated being a woman because of how women were treated
comparing me being trans to me wanting to be a dog when I was little (seriously)
“thank god you don’t want bottom surgery”
still obsessing over how short my hair is
blaming herself for not being a feminine enough role model
when I mentioned that abortion law affects trans men and to watch her wording, told me it was “a womens issue that happens to affect other people”
being convinced I was unaware of all the dangers of being trans (esp if I don’t pass) but also telling me I had it fine bc I wasn’t transfemme
other non mom stuff:
a person who knew I was trans telling me “who cares” when I pointed out cissexist language she used
that same person constantly talking about how men are awful and lazy and sexual predators in front of me
having a stranger attempt to doxx and defame me, comparing me to MRAs and incels, block evading, and telling me to kill myself (all for discussing my own experiences)
getting told to shut up/stop mansplaining/stop showing off for infodumping when it was fine before I transitioned
similarly my executive dysfunction now bring laziness and my social difficulties being a callous man
another friend always making derogatory jokes about testosterone while knowing I was taking it
being invited to “women and nb” groups by people who knew I was male, but also no longer being invited once I looked it
being told I can’t speak about experiencing sexism
fearmongering about what taking T would do to my fertility (and how potentially not being fertile was a tragedy) to the point I considered egg harvesting until someone finally told it me it was very likely unnecessary in my case esp unless I was planning on having kids in the next few years
not knowing trans men even existed for half a decade after knowing trans women existed
there’s more but that’s all I can think of for now
Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Now some “Christians” in Texas have banned books (part of their anti-woke crusade) and one of the books banned in one school district is the freaking Bible. THE BIBLE. HOW can any of my fellow Christians believe that conservatives are enforcing “Christian values” when they're banning OUR HOLY BOOK?!?!?
I mean, I have absolutely seen the "all the rape, incest, violence, war, genocide, murder, adultery, etc etc in the Bible means that it should be banned" argument, but almost always as satire from leftists/liberals pointing out the constant hypocrisy of right-wing Christian evangelicals. I'm not actually surprised that some of those people took it at face value, but yeah. Lol.
Anyway, this basically just confirms the argument that myself and a lot of other people have been making, which is that the rabid puritan anti-Ao3 people who shout endlessly about "PROBLEMATIC CONTENT!!!" are literally just hardcore right-wingers with the buzzwords, names, and moral justifications slightly tweaked. Because they both use the exact same kind of twisted logic and social fearmongering about Thinking Of The Children, and it never goes anywhere good. It rests on the fundamental assumption that other people can't be trusted to distinguish reality and fiction, that even briefly seeing "bad" content might somehow toxically pollute you for life, and otherwise the kind of all-consuming attempted ideological control and brainwashing that has never, ever worked. Literally, not once in history, but it HAS caused a lot of horrendously unnecessary suffering along the way, so yeah. Fuck those people, no matter what justifications they're cooking up from any side of any spectrum. It always sucks.

It’s fucked up to say but I actually sort of agree or understand with that anon that if you want to sterilize yourself let’s say so you don’t need an abortion in the event of a rape…. Ok. It is extreme But it’s also just… so so fucked up that it’s on women that we even have to think about this. But men are violent too.. I know my friends who had male friends turn out to be angry and violent when they wouldn’t want to hook up. Many straight up murdering women on the spot for refusing anything romantic… I was cornered on a bus by one who wouldn’t let me leave unless I gave my phone number… Idk idk idk I hate that this is our world and women have no allies but each other and even that is conditional…. the main argument is preventing male violence and prevent unnecessary violence on unborn babies but holy fuck to even push for sterilization - something that is permanent (like getting a hysterectomy isn’t like playing legos. Your uterus alone does amazing things OTHER THAN growing babies) should tell us as a society how little we care about womens bodies…. 😔 i do dream of female only spaces in public being popular and supported and protected I think that would help tremendously since you could feel safe. But idk…
Nah, that anon was dumb because she felt entitled to have the taxpayer's money to pay for her vanity procedure, just because she couldn't handle the idea of refraining from sex to avoid unwanted pregnancy. Noooo.... let's get an invasive procedure that possibily can mess up my whole body instead. That's peak scrote behavior. Plus I'm 90% sure she was a radfem, and radfem clown TRA for being entitled to get their SRS paid by the taxpayers, but how any of that remotely different from wanting sterilization to be refunded by medicaid?
I think the fearmongering about rape is getting out of hand. Yes, sexual abuse is getting widespread, yes, violence against women is a problem, but......promoting sterilization as a solution to put up with it sounds disproportionate, and totally deflect from the issue at hand. It's a giant cope. Even if women all sterilized themselves, rape or femicide would still happen. And you can't whine that all responsabilities to handle rape is put onto women's shoulders....while shoving on said women (not men) sterilization as a legit solution to handle the sexual abuse threat.
You perfectly said it yourself
"Your uterus alone does amazing things OTHER THAN growing babies) should tell us as a society how little we care about womens bodies…"
And yet, the same people pretending to value and cater for the respect of the female body & edifying the uterus are the first one to turn around and seek after procedures disrupting our perfectly healthy & well functionning body, when actual alternatives do exist. That's a total nonsense. Women aren't LEGO who can rearrange their body parts at convenience.

Decided to un-rb the “tumblr is selling ur pics to midjourney” post bc again the actual post itself says that nothing is confirmed to be happening yet and spreading that post around just serves to cause more unnecessary panic.
I’ll restate what I said in the tags of that rb here. I’m just as mad about the possibility of that as anyone else but jumping to it being a level 10 crisis when nothing in that post specifically is actually happening yet doesn’t help anyone. You can do whatever you feel is right for you in this circumstance, whether that be leave the site, use one of the anti-AI filter programs like Glaze, or whatever else you may want to do.
And like the other post I rb’d says, if you post your art anywhere online, Tumblr or otherwise, it’s unfortunately probably already being used for that kind of thing, that’s just kind of how the internet is operating at the moment. And it sucks! It really does! But making big fearmongering posts like the midjourney one just really gets under my skin

Hello, nice to see a natla fan who isn't having a meltdown like the rest of the internet 👋
I wanted to vent about how recently i've been annoyed seeing fans talk about how they NEED to film s2 and s3 back to back to avoid timeskips.
Personally i believe it's unnecessary and first and foremost i think fans forget these are real people making this show who also need to rest. do they really want to subject gordon to basically having no life for however long it would take to film back to back just so they can have their precious age-accurate aang vs ozai fight? like Really?? That's what is most important to you???
Hi! Always a pleasure! I have no intention of giving in to some kind of "fearmongering" going around fandoms in general every time there's new stuff. 🙄 I feel like people, if they can't just take entertainment for what it is, something you can live without if you don't like it, they just should take a stepback and chill, really. If they don't like this adaptation, the off button on their tv is still there, and worst case scenario, they can use their netflix subscription to watch something else idk. simple as that. 🤷‍♀️ As for the whole thing about timeframe and filming, I do agree that it doesn't have to be an important issue if they really face the issue head-on early on in the show. I do think it'll be important to avoid being like "Sozin's comet is coming... 10 years from now..." but the one year frame from the cartoon would've always been impossible to translate in live action, with actors, esp children, like they hit puberty and everything goes fast from there and is really obvious on screen (hum hum, the Stranger Things kids). Now I am skeptical about this idea of a timejump between book 1 and 2. While unavoidable (and COVID, and the writers strike etc), I still would have preferred in an ideal world to have the timejump more between book 2 and 3, skipping a time during which Aang would just try and heal from Azula's attack for example. But it's the way it is, it was always meant to be like this. I do hope that they don't go off being like "well three years happened" between book 1 and book 2. But at least, saying some months passed, can stil work within the story, and it could be explained by Aang spent x amount of time learning waterbending idk. Of course people can argue "well then they shouldn't make a live action adaptation"... well, they are doing it. So like, ofc the people who work on it, thought about all these options. And just because some fans are open-minded about it, expect(ed) these restrictions to be incorporated to the story, doesn't mean we're "dickriding" or "delusionals". I just want to give the show its fair chance, because I love the ATLA universe, and we'll see what happens! 💁‍♀️

Best Cruelty free Mascara
With treatments from eyelash extensions to perming, it’s fair to say that we’re more lash-obsessed than ever. We’ve all been there, from bending our mascara wand to trying the spoon technique. Is it really time to start learning about natural mascara? We sure think so! If this is your first time venturing into the world of natural makeup, no worries. We’re covering all the in’s and out’s of our Best Cruelty free Mascara, so you can make the best choice for your beauty needs (beauty is power!).
Why choose a natural mascara?
We don’t want to be fearmongers. We agree, makeup is a fun and empowering form of self expression. The truth is, your skin absorbs what you put on it — a fact you should be even more concerned about in regards to your eye area.
First of all, what makes a mascara “natural?” The truth is, there’s no set definition for what “natural” means. A good place to start would be to take a look at the ingredients in your typical drugstore mascara. Do you know what all of them are? Another simple test is to ask yourself if you can even pronounce them. Did you pass the test? When in doubt, ask the company, or look up the ingredient on EWG’s Skin Deep database.
In looking for the best natural mascaras, we’ve narrowed down our list to high performing formulas that do without the following harmful ingredients:
Parabens: synthetic preservatives that can mimic estrogen, and have been linked to breast cancer.
Ureas: ureas such as diazolidinyl urea preserve cosmetic products by releasing formaldehyde — a known human carcinogen.
Phthalates: industrial plasticizers used to mix together cosmetic ingredients, making mascara easy to apply. But they’ve been linked to severe hormone disruption.
Dimethicone: Dimethicone is used to achieve a smooth, waterproof finish. It’s hard to get off of lashes afterwards, though, and can lead to brittle lashes — especially if you wear mascara on a daily basis.
Fragrance: The FDA lets companies label any mixture of fragrance ingredients as simply “fragrance” without having to list them all. So even if you’re trying to stay away from phthalates, they might still be in your mascara formula under a disguise.
Animal Testing: Because why should we ever have to subject other living beings to cruelty for our benefit? And the fact that a company would need to test a potentially hazardous ingredient or product on an animal should raise red flags about its safety in the first place.
It’s time to put individuality back into not just our makeup looks, but also in choosing the products we trust our delicate lashes and sensitive eyes with. Natural mascaras are the way to go for gorgeous eyelashes that will last, without the unnecessary eye irritation. What type of mascara do you prefer for your makeup looks?

MORE NEWS FOR YOU
WF THOUGHTS (6/1/23).
Once again, I'll save you a bunch of time today. Here are a handful of items that I would have addressed in lengthy posts if I had the time during my recent hiatus:
1. There's been a ton of talk about artificial intelligence and the various Chatbots. The talk has me thinking back to the start of my legal career in 1984. The hottest new technological gadget was the spiffy IBM Selectric III typewriter. Carbon paper was used to make a duplicate of all correspondence and memos. All legal research was done by humans using BOOKS! The world changes so quickly. What will the world look like in 2065? If one thinks about the issue objectively, I think it's fair to conclude that many recent "technological innovations" have had a negative impact on society. What do you think? Will the Chatbots ultimately be helpful or harmful?
2. I was thrilled to see that one of the ringleaders of the January 6th insurrection was sentenced to 18 years as a result of his conviction for "seditious conspiracy." The guy wasn't at the Capitol that day. His crime was that he participated in the overall planning of the attack. At the sentencing, the Judge lectured the criminal and explained his "seditious conspiracy" offense in simple terms: "It is a series of acts in which you and others committed to use force, including potentially weapons, against the government of the United States as it transitioned from one president to another. And what was the motive? You didn't like the new guy." Shouldn't all of the other ringleaders be sent to prison too? What about the real estate tycoon with the name that rhymes with DUMP?
3. Warren Buffett, the investment guru, recently released his annual letter to his shareholders. He confessed that he made a stupid investment in an aerospace company, and that he lost $11 BILLION on the investment. OUCH! Isn't it good to see that everybody makes mistakes?
4. On the days leading up to May 11th, there was so much talk about the expiration of "Title 42." Do you remember? All of the "experts" predicted an apocalyptic flood of migrants across the southern border. Since May 11th, the story has totally dropped off the radar. Why? The experts were wrong. There was no apocalypse. The border has been surprisingly quiet. Border crossings actually fell from 10,000 a day to 4,000 a day. When are we going to stop paying attention to fearmongering experts?
5. I need to say a few words about the debt ceiling situation:
A. It reminds me of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." Aren't you sick of the story? As I've explained at length previously, the "debt ceiling" is a stupid and unnecessary device. Except for Denmark, which sets its debt ceiling so high that it can never be reached, no other developed country has a debt ceiling. They do just fine without a debt ceiling. When are we going to get smart and demand the elimination of the debt ceiling? Haven't we all had enough of this?
B. In navigating the crisis, Biden has eaten the lunch of the GOP and Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy didn't even realize that his lunch was missing. Let's forget the details and look at the big picture. Team McCarthy believes in far right extremism and the destruction of the government. Biden is a centrist Democrat who believes in good governance. The deal is a centrist compromise that reflects good governance. It's a deal that makes sense to centrists. The far right extremists only got about 10% of their original demands. We should all be thankful that we have a professional president who knows how to quietly get most of what he wants. Biden wanted to push the next debt ceiling cliff out to 2025, and he wanted to nail down parameters for the upcoming budget finalization. He got both of those things.
C. There was much talk about increasing the "work requirements" for folks seeking certain financial benefits from the federal government. In the end, the deal was a "wash" on that issue. New work requirements will be imposed on some people. On the other hand, the work requirements will be eliminated for others. All along, I was waiting for someone to ask the obvious question: "If poor people have to meet work requirements to receive financial benefits from the government, why shouldn't rich people be required to work to receive their giant tax breaks?" Isn't that a fair question?
D. I'm sick of Republican hypcrites who demand "lower spending." Here are the facts:
- Regan took the annual budget deficit from $70 Billion to $175 Billion.
- Bush 41 took it to $300 Billion.
- Clinton got it to ZERO, and left office with a $86 Billion budget SURPLUS.
- Bush 43 took it from below $0 to $1.2 Trillion.
- Obama cut it by 50% to $600 Billion.
- Trump ran a total budget deficit of $7.8 Trillion- -the largest peacetime deficit in American history.
- In his first two years, Biden reduced the deficit by $1.4 Trillion.
Please reject the myth that Republicans are "fiscally responsible." The facts obliterate that myth.
- The national debt is the accumulation of the various annual budget deficits, discussed above, that have occurred since the founding of the country. Even though he was only president for a single term, Trump alone is responsible for more than 20% of the debt that has been accumulated in our entire history. To set that world record, without tumult, the debt ceiling was raised three times during his administration. We survived. Please ignore all claims that Republicans are "fiscally conservative."
6. Let me finish with the best story that I heard in my recent travels:
It was Sunday morning. Once again, a mother was struggling to get her son ready for Church. From the kitchen she screamed: "We're leaving in 10 minutes." There was no response. With fury, the mother ran upstairs and rushed into her son's bedroom. He was still in bed. The following angry discussion ensued:
Mother: Get out of that bed. You're going to Church.
Son: I'm not going!
Mother: Get up for Church. You must go to Church.
Son: I'll give you two reasons why I'm not going. 1. They don't like me. 2. I don't like them.
Mother: I'll give you two reasons why you ARE going. 1. You're 51 years old. 2. You're the Pastor!
Congratulations. In two days you've covered 11 blog topics that I scrawled on napkins during my recent trip. And, you got a funny story too. Isn't life good?
Dust off your thinking cap. Deeper posts are coming soon.

This is going under a readmore because it’s me talking about unnecessary Dream hate and I know many people have had enough of that, but I’d like to get my feelings on the matter out.
Tumblr media
I saw this tweet screenshot earlier and I can’t get it out of my head.
This is such a cruel, cruel tweet.
The way it’s worded in such a specific way to invoke paranoia and fear. Who does that? Why would you do that, if your intent was not to hurt?
“People you know and love secretly hate you/your passions” is one of the cruelest things I can think of to say. I cannot imagine ever supporting anybody who uses this type of wording, this type of fearmongering and an attempt to literally induce paranoia on an argument about, of all things, bullying? It makes no sense to me.
Just. This is terribly cruel and I will now say that I am openly disgusted with him.
Frankly he’s speaking like my abusive ex. I’m just not here for it.

I’m absolutely wheezing because I called out someone in my local Pagan Group on Facebook for unnecessarily fearmongering about a Spirit someone was dealing with, despite all evidence to the contrary of the things the individuals were actually dealing with ... And the person I called out literally came back at me with a “I’m a 3rd generation Clairvoyant” like that matters one iota 🤣
Tumblr media
Clairvoyancy is Future-Seeing, first of all, and has nothing to do with Spirit Communication or Spirit-Sensing ... But also: Throwing that out like you’re the only possible person in a Pagan Facebook Group (of all places) with Clairvoyant abilities is just kind of hilarious in and of itself.
It’s not the “gotcha” that you think it is, babe. Like, look around you... Throw an Atom and you’ll easily hit twelve of us. You aren’t special 🤣 🤣 🤣
On my own I’m at least a 5th generation Clairvoyant belonging to the original Mormons- bestowed by God and the Church with the gifts of both Healing and Prophecy (which strengthens the already innate Clairvoyant abilities I know of existing my family) ... And? It means jack fuck-all of any importance at all ... It means nothing.
Especially not when we're dealing with Spirits to begin with- and in that regard, too, I am also an actual Spirit Worker with a legitimate Death Sense inherited through 2 generations (minimum; that's just what I have the familial lore for). Same downline, even! But again: It means jack fuck-all of any importance here.
Why? Because the issue at hand is unnecessary fearmongering about Spirits when the given data directly contradicts or is counter to the issues that're being fearmongered about! In which case: Absolutely none of our abilities mean anything, or grant us any authority at all (least of all because the authority actually being touted has nothing to do with Spirits to begin with).
There's times and places where years practiced, and abilities possessed or garnered, do actually matter. But whipping them out in this case? Is nothing more than a blatant Toddler's attempt to stroke our own egos and feelings of self-superiority; and use them as a cudgel to shut the other person up so we can seem more important.
It's stupid, and childish, and it doesn't make you special or important 🙄 It just makes you exactly like the rest of us.

(Discarded Preface ramble to "SUIT UP")
It does kinda suck seeing communities based around discourse because I know all of them hate me for my varied views and advanced understanding of them.
Not even saying that as a shitpost. I have done my research and I have spent my time thinking over my positions and I am content with the fact i know my opinions will change over time and that it's healthy for them to and that I'm always learning. I am working with myself to heal from being in discourse communities.
It makes me sad because I was in them once. I know how it feels to have a external collective think for me and it's trapping and terrible and scary. I am sad to see these blogs and know, these are not opinions they believe from self searching, they're opinions they believe because they were told they're the correct ones.
It makes me sad to see people take the bait. To see posts made by one side, describing the other as truth. Idk how to tell you, you will never find a shred of truth about someone else from the mouth of a man who hates him.
The bias is incredible. I'm only inches out of genuinely recovering from the mindset. When I say it set me back and damaged me, I'm not exaggerating. It's a genuinely traumatizing experience, you probably just haven't noticed yet.
If developing an opinion makes you afraid, somethings wrong. If you have to turn to someone for your facts, somethings wrong. If you have to ask someone "why" something is "bad", something is wrong. Your opinions should be an internal development made by listening to the issue, than forming an opinion separate from the debate.
For example, let's say if someone was new to the idea of the abortion debate.
It would be smart and helathy for them to look at the clinical facts, listen (civily, to a civil speaker) about the emotional worries, than to spend at least a few days reviewing these facts, than reaching a current conclusion, but keeping an open mind to the worries of others and presentation of newer facts. The only time this opinion should matter is regard to THEMSELF, the people they place trust in, and if applicable, (as it is now,) voting.
Am unhealthy way would be to first thing ask their mutuals what side is best or to explain the situation. And unhealthy way would be to engage with hysterical presentation of nonfact and fearmongering. An unhealthy way would be to learn from organized groups based on meaningless discoursing.
I'm pro choice because I am educated on the clinical facts of the operation, I have listened to the emotion worries of both "sides" and understand the nuance of it. This matters to me when I will start voting, and essentally nowhere else. I don't waste time discoursing with communities that rely on fearmongering and nonfact. I will not engage with bad faith or unnecessary discussion on the topic.
This is a healthy way to engage with "discourse." With a topic I thought is very simple
I say simple, because there is medical fact to reference.
A lot of discourse is based in lack of any fact, using trolls and the most cartoonish extremist of either side to formulate an argument. Because of this, there is not a single informed or civil debate, only meaningless, childish arguments that dissolve into juvenile name calling and harassment campaigns.
Fake stories are regurgitated, bait and trolls pretend to be the other side to stoke the flames of their own community, and new "members" of the opinion club are taught biased facts from people who interact in bad faith.
It's a fuxking toxic wasteland.

So I got the cheapest kind of iron last time. I didn't realize until after buying it that it had extra ingredients like red #40 in it, which is wholly unnecessary for starters.
I decided to look it up, to see if the whole "Food coloring is bad for you" thing is just fearmongering.
Apparently, red #40 can decrease iron absorption.

Anyways, cycling back to abortion and why punitive justice does more harm than good (even if you think that fewer abortions is a goal worth pursuing, which I do not — I mean, except in the very general sense that I think there’s some value in avoiding unwanted pregnancies/the need for abortions, but that that’s something that needs to be balanced against avoiding unnecessary fearmongering about sex, anyways) — the thing about mandated breaks for employees is the mandate applies to employers and it’s not like anyones going to be arrested if they break the law. Maybe there’s a fine or something, but basically it means when workers want breaks and don’t get them they have some recourse other than “get a different job”. It’s a situation where a law actually protects people. As opposed to, say, a law against holding up gas station convenience stores, which punishes people after the fact (if they get caught) but does fuckall to protect a store or repair damages caused either to the business or to the worker(s) who got terrorized. Or a law against rape that does fuckall to prevent rape and makes the victim go through more traumatizing experiences to get a conviction, and most of the time there is no conviction, or a law against murder which doesn’t exactly bring anyone back from the dead, and isn’t exactly the main reason why most people refrain from killing people they don’t like anyways.
People who have abortions don’t do it because they hate kids or they’re going through a rebellious/edgy phase or whatever. People who have abortions do it usually because it’s not a good time for them to be pregnant — their work doesn’t really do the maternity leave thing, they can’t afford a child, they want to have kids in a stable relationship and they’re not in one, etc. (The vast majority of people who get pregnant and don’t want to keep the child prefer abortion over adoption. I don’t want to get into all that here, but short version is that nine months of pregnancy and childbirth isn’t exactly a minor inconvenience, and people freaking bond to a child they’ve given birth to, so while obviously putting up a child for adoption is very different from a child dying to the child, it can be more or less the same emotional experience to the parent. Except you get sympathy for a dead child, and you get a much more complex response to giving a child away.) Anyways. People don’t get abortions to be edgy. They get abortions to deal with a problem they have, usually a problem of being pregnant in the first place, and occasionally a problem where the pregnancy was initially wanted but something went horribly medically wrong and there is no way out of this that ends with a living child. People don’t get abortions for no reason, they get abortions to solve a problem, and the only remotely compassionate way of responding to abortion if you think there should be fewer abortions (and I don’t, but I realize a lot of people do) is to address the problem that abortion seekers are trying to solve.
Sex education that includes talking about contraception is part of that — and people who want abortion to be illegal are generally also against sex education in schools. Offering support for people in abusive relationships is part of that (often abusers try to keep their victims off of birth control, in addition to sexual coercion often being a component of the abuse) — and people who want abortion to be illegal generally do fuckall about that. Economic opportunity for women is part of that, substance abuse treatment is part of that, addressing patterns of toxic masculinity that convince men that they need to have sex with women to be real men is part of that, and …you see a pattern?
Everything that would help solve the problem of “I’m pregnant and I don’t want to be pregnant” other than just going “tough shit should have kept your legs closed”, people who want abortion to be illegal are at best indifferent to and at worst actively against. The one exception is that some people who are against abortion provide material support to pregnant people through private charities, but even then, a lot of them will vote against candidates who want to provide that same assistance through government programs, which are more reliable and less likely to be selective about who they help. And I know people who are personally against abortion and for the most part, (many) individual people who are against abortion are not monsters, they’re just people, they are sincere and believe it to be a moral issue.
And at the same time, punishing people for doing a thing you don’t like doesn’t mean they’re not going to do it, you need to actually address the problem they’re trying to solve. You put someone in a situation where there’s no winning, and one way or another they’re going to lose.
