i am being so fucking self-indulgent right now but. anywyas i made a tadc oc because the voices in my head telling me to were getting too loud to outweigh my inherent self-cringe

it’s breaking my heart that this color is too dark in real life… it photographs a bit lighter/truer to what I thought it was going to be but with the eye test (lol) it’s darker and muddier than I hoped. the paint was $24 for a quart and can’t be returned so I’m trying to decide if I:
just use it (paint a wall and then paint over it if I don’t like it)
try it in a diff room with diff lighting (maybe a dark bathroom like @lunarrua suggested)
accept the loss and go shopping for a lighter dark green (or just don’t paint that room)
my other kinda wild thought is: I have a lot of this warm white and yellow left over from other projects and I’m like… could I just mix a little of one of those colors into it? and see what happens? they’re all water-based paints so I COULD mix I’m just not sure if it’s worth possibly ruining the paint I do have
#edit: you know what I’m going to mix in white and see what happens#maybe I’ll try adding 5% white to see what that shade looks like#then if it still feels muddy I might try adding a tiny bit of pale yellow#yellow feels riskier for some reason idk why#like it’ll alter the color family yknow when I just want to lighten#but also it might warm up the color a bit

I was gonna make a jokey post like "i just get paler by the day" but uh yeah i literally do i haven't left my home in like two weeks, the sun never gets a chance to touch my skin. I'm so fucking pail i actually look fucking yellow, that's how bad it is.

Summer always feels so nostalgic and I’m never sure if that’s a good thing. Like I don’t have anything to be nostalgic about with summer it’s just the feeling of time stretching out behind me and like?? It puts me in such a weird mood why does summer give you emotions
#thinking abt this summer and I am crushed by the weight of the last 19 summers and the three months before I go back to uni#but even without getting into the whole being at home thing it just pulls up so much stuff out of me#it might be that the full weight of the seasonal depression has finally lifted and I don’t have as many imminent deadlines now#so I have space inside me for them#but god like. At Long Last... Mick apwos TF2 Guy Eye Color Headcanons
I was gonna post smth like "uwaaa are eye color headcanons still cool... would anyone wanna see..." but then remembered I do what I want! So
Scout: Blue eyes I'm sorry. I think "people with blue eyes waiting for you to comment on their blue eyes" memes work for him. Also I think Jerma's got blue eyes and they're the same guy so it works
Soldier: Really any eye color goes for him bc visible eyes aren't really part of his design, but I think that kinda muddy brown-green color would work. Mostly just bc I think it'd be funny if this guy specifically had basically camo-colored eyes. His army green orbs
Demo: This is like the only guy whose canon eye color I care about. Demo's eye is BROWN it is not green or gold or yellow or whatever, it's brown. I have honestly gotten to a point where I think any insistence that it's another color or that it would be "cooler" if it were another color is offensive
Heavy: Blue, but I like to differentiate them from Scout's blue by making them Very pale. I think it works with his whole Large Foreboding Siberian Man thing. The kind of eye color really best described as "icy"
Engie: Another one I don't really think too much about bc his eyes are always obscured, but I think especially if he's blond they should be brown. Lighter brown eyes with dark blond hair look nice, it looks nice in the New Mexican desert and it looks nice surrounded by glowing yellow Australium machines. He seems like a warm colors kinda guy
Medic: Blue again sorry. There has never been a man who better encapsulates the "blue-eyed husky stare" thing. Absolutely terrifying. I like to differentiate his from Scout's and Heavy's by making the color very bright. Bc yknow. Medic? Bright? Cheery? Giggly? It works
Sniper: I am a brown-eyes Sniper tf2 truther and will be until the day I die. It works! And they're dark too, basically black. You can't really see it behind the colored glasses, so I always like to make someone noticing his eye color a very intimate thing. It's fun
Spy: It seems So obvious to me that Spy should have brown eyes, especially with the duller and darker reds of his design. It just looks nicer, in my opinion
BONUS ROUND:
Pauling: I like the green eyes but I also think brown eyes would be nice. Maybe gray. Blue is a no-no
Admin: I think the green eyes work! They feel sharp and distinct within her mostly purple, pink, and red color palette. She feels like she should have eyes that stick out. Yellow is another good option
Hale: He barely has a canon eye color but I think a brown so light it's almost orange or yellow would work for him. Maybe straight-up yellow eyes, I do love that visual Australium effect
Zhanna: Brown eyes. Works with her color palette! I never really notice what color eyes people give her but I think this would be nice

-the most sincerely homophobic in the beginning. You don't just get raised the way he's been and not have some WILD ass beliefs about the world, he eventually unlearns it but being surrounded by dude bros who constantly call things gay as an insult and his tendency to take things litterally DONT help. And it's not like active hate or anything it's just getting raised that gay people are sinners and are gonna burn in hell is definitely a topic you gotta make an effort to unlearn.
-seeing two girls kissing on the streets of florida for the first time??? SHOCKED, litterally did a full head swivel to check if anyone else had seen it and imploded when no one seemed to be as surprised at he was
-Doesnt really even understand why the rest of the band likes casual sex so much, it feels good but at first he thought it was strange there were all of these girl fawning over a him, a technical stranger, and he just goes along with it.
- got his ears pierced about 4 months into earlyklok sitting on the ledge of their shared apartments crusty bathtub
they were all packed into the tiny bathroom, talking over eachother, the room thick with weed smoke, skwisgaar perched over him in the bathtub holding his head straight
pickles did it with a safety pin and an icecube, joint hanging off his lips as he squinted in concentration
Toki didn't flinch, didn't even stop talking to Nathan about the newest Cannibal corpse album that Nathan wanted to buy a cd of
He liked the feeling of skwisgaars hands engulfing his face, it was a touch that wasn't cruel. Plus knowing that the best guitarist he's ever heard in his whole life hands were soft was a fact that he's gonna ingrain into his head.
Murderface and Nathan actually looked mildly concerned at tokis complete lack of reaction
- the kid will offhandedly say really cryptic shit, through broken English and weird reactions to what they think is normal stuff. the band gets the gist that they'd have to be a hell of a lot drunker to handle his truth (toki: oh don't worry I'm used to the dark! :), everyone else:👀)
-got a lip piercing but didn't take care of it properly, so of course it got infected and had to be taken out
-this is when he starts age regressing but doesn't realize he's doing it,
-he'd watch a kids cartoon in complete silence until the season ends and it's the only way to keep him completely still and quiet
-is attracted to bright and colorful things even if it gets him made fun off by the guys, secretly LOVES Lisa frank art
Regular adult toki

HATES tables that aren't clean, when it's noticeably sticky or there's crumbs that stick to his arms when he leans on the table
-same with the feeling of spilt beer, has gotten used to it over the years but the feeling of dried sticky beer still has his skin crawling
-has drunken bong water as a dare (all of them have as some point but still)
-has also smoked weed through his nose (again on a dare)!
-if you look really close into his eyes, his eyes go so light blue it looks pale yellow
-very very kind and pretty eyes, the downwards slope of them make him look sad with a neutral face

-works out mostly regularly to keep his shape, he gets too energetic for the others to handle so it's a good way to blow off some steam
-Likes the idea of wearing feminine stuff, skirts seem sooooo comfortable but doesn't wear them cause yknow the teasing would be absolutely relentless
-medium thickness chewed on lips, does it mindlessly
-knows hes capable of incredible violence, the band is also very aware and whenever he gets legitimately pissed off during a argument (like a genuine, seriously bad argument) they'll usually just back off and wait to bring it up later when toki doesn't look like he's three seconds away from curbstomping them
-FAT crush on Nathan but for some reason gets really shy around it??
-Nathan will compliment him and toki will deadass write with a fluffy pink huge glittery pink pen in an equally pink journal kicking his legs and giggling
*Nathan told me when I got that chord I kept fucking up correct that he could *see me improving* EEEEE he's soooo big He could throw me Like a football
-fond of murderface, knows people deal with their own shit in diffrent ways so he doesn't take his insults to heart (usually)
-relationship with skiwsgaar is. Weird.
I'll probably get into it on another post but it's SO complicated like. Were both emotionally constipated around eachother, our relationship used to be so kind and gentle skiwsgaar was tokis mentor and wanted to see him grow but has such anxeity around toki surpassing him he purposely beats him down; and toki doesn't have the work ethic or drive to truly get to thay level and it impedes the progress of the band. But engages with this weird rivalry thats also a form of love and respect like. Your the only one I could ever be worried about being better than me and I've watched you grow so much and I don't know how to express that properly YADDA YADDA YADDA
-loves pickles very much, he was the most welcoming in the beginning and always made a space for him at the table, later on a shoulder to cry on.

Your voice croaked out, straining, attempting to silence yourself.
He closed his eyes, nodding happily as he took your hand, pulling you to the bus.
You stumbled to the seat, glancing at him as he took his position, holding the pole and staring at you with that same unnerving smile and wide eyes.
You rubbed at your head, trying desperately to figure out why you had agreed to allow him into your home, why you had accepted when you meant to decline.

Patton Foster (alias: Guardian. Just a normal guy who trained super hard, has a handful of cool tech and a mask. He's basically Batman.
- Costume is probably mostly shades of dark grey / light grey and pale blue highlights - has a cowl)
Roman Valdez (alias: Hurricane. He's basially Superman, was an alien baby who crashlanded on earth.
- Costume is white with a red? gold? H on his chest, red cape, red boots and gloves. probably not masked Or has a little over-the-eyes Green Lantern/Mr Incredible style mask. Probably built like Mr Incredible too)
Remus Valdez (alias: Maelstrom. He's basically Aquaman. Also not human - half-Atlantean (im gonna steal this i can do what I like). Raised on the surface. Can control water and sea life, can talk to fish, LOVES octopi/tentacle motif above all else.
- Costume: probably yknow super green black and silver, probably has that scale-like skintight chest piece and maybe some armour motifs (bc Atlantis) Face is not covered)
Side note: i think Roman And Remus were found by like. a lighthouse keeper. who went oh boy!!! free sons!!! and raised them as brothers. They fully consider each other brothers. they grew up together and hero together, probs dont live together currently tho.
also i came up with the names separately but it means they both named themselves after weather phenomena and that is twin behaviour godbless
the three of them have something like a justice league together - it probably has Other Heroes in it part time too but. waves hand. background characters. They have an HQ. Somewhere.
villains
Janus [Surname Pending] (alias: Siren. A magician-cross-catburlgar... he's like... Catwoman if she had Zatanna's powers and aesthetics. Magic is real and he has it. And uses it for. Well. Everything. Morally grey rogue rather than evil villain. He's still super fucking with Guardian.
- Costume: face half-scaled (genuinely from a magic curse) the other half masked phantom of the opera style. wears like... a magician's get up crossed his canon outfit but with bootyshorts and fishnets)
Logan Sanders (alias: [pending]. He's not really evil, or, not if you ask him. But he does think having these so called super-'heroes' running around without a contingency plan is... irresponsible. In private he is building a mech suit capable of taking down Hurricane Should He Need Taking Down. Has strong morals <- not good morals, just strong morals. Sometimes funds smaller villains/rogues for ,,,reasons.
Patton is his secretary but they dont know the other is hero/villain (a shame, if they were on the same side, they'd get along very well)
- Costume: well. it's a mech-suit, bulkier / more armoured than, say Iron Man, but not,, like,,, ten feet tall. all cold steel, maybe burnished black in parts, and i can see it having a visor with electronic eyes that can be Logan's signature blue.
Virgil (Surname Pending) (alias: [also pending] <- probably storm Or shadow related. He's the most nebulous to me right now but tbh i can see a semi-harley quinn backstory where he was tangled up with a gangleader who won him over into a life of crime but he's not that happy (i.e., open to...persuasion) with it. Don't know if he should have powers or not...
- Costume: blacks, purples w/ hints of yellow. Hood covers hair and eyes and mask covers lower face. dresses in layers typical of like... a medieval assassin (he's not an assassin) (he's probably killed people before tho)
Virgil and Janus have probably crossed paths before as their rogue aliases. Janus has met Logan (under a fake name). it's possible Logan (in costume, under alias) has worked with Virgil/Virgil's boss before. Generally, esp now Virgil's striking out a little more on his own, Virgil and Janus are kinda too low on Logan's radar for him to seek them out so far. (Janus likes it like that) (tbh so does Virgil)

For the homies who haven't followed for a long time, why the quest for swampweed milkweek seeds?
So I’m currently at the library so if this answer is lame I may go into more detail once I get home but the long and the short of it is Swamp Milkweed Pretty Pink Color. Long version below.
Summer ~2015 (I think): volunteering at the zoo, making and selling seed bombs to raise money for conservation projects. Some Karen sasses at me for encouraging people to make butterfly gardens/plant butterfly friendly plants (??????) and basically says ‘You probably don’t even so how dare you imply I, a mother of 3, should.’ I take that as a challenge.
Fall and Winter 2015: start collecting seeds and stuff from whatever stores sold them cheap for a butterfly garden. Start learning about how important milkweed is for monarchs. Goal to obtain Any Milkweed is a go.
Spring 2016ish (I think): I find milkweed for sale at garden stores! This is Tropical Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica), and most of it is red and orange. While googling I find a Really Nice All Yellow Variety and my goal becomes Obtaining Yellow Milkweed.
Spring 2017ish: obtain yellow milkweed. At this point I have like 7ish tropical milkweed plants in my garden.
Spring either 2019 and 2020: at this point I have been growing milkweed and other flowers pollinators like for awhile when I learn that UH OH. Tropical Milkweed is invasive in my area! And I really shouldn’t be growing it! (One could argue the greenhouses in my area shouldn’t be selling it in the first place and I’d agree but I digress.) In my quest to figure out what species of milkweed ARENT invasive in my state—native, even—I find swamp milkweed and its the prettiest plant I’ve ever seen. Fuck yellow tropical milkweed, this plant is BRIGHT bright pink, beloved by caterpillars, beloved by pollinators, and smells like VANILLA? I want it now.
Thus begins the quest to grow it (and other species but mostly swamp milkweed) from seed. It never works out.
Spring 2020: accidentally steps on seedlings. Fatality.
Spring 2021: seeds were cold stratifying in the fridge but were left out of the fridge too long, sprouted in the bag for three days, and were weak as hell when I finally put them in. Forgot to water. Fatality.
Spring 2022: seeds are left in cups for way too long, forgot to water because Senior Project, cold stratification of next batch doesnt go well. Fatality.
Spring 2023: seeds mold while cold stratifying, germination rate is ‘one out of 21’ and then that one dies because I forget to water. Fatality.
During that whole while I’m thinking to myself ‘ok I suck at growing these from seed maybe they sell them in greenhouses and plant stores?’ And no they don’t. Until earlier this year when I finally find them being sold at native plant festivals (wherein which I arrive too late to my town’s once-yearly native plant festival and they’re sold out of milkweeds before the 30 minute mark of a 5 hour event YES I’m still mad about that) and other gardening festivals (shout out to the lady selling swamp milkweed at the zoo’s garden festival AND the honeybee festival) and ONE garden store near my friend’s house by the beach called Earthworks.
There are other milkweeds I am questing after now because there’s like 21-22 native milkweeds in Florida and my goal is to grow as many different varieties as possible (which is HARD because NO ONE SELLS THEM except for at this once a year plant sale and they don’t have enough to last THIRTY MINUTES YES IM STILL MAD). Currently I’ve also got my eyes set on sandhill milkweed (Asclepias humistrata) and Redring milkweed (whos latin name I don’t remember right now). Also trying to figure out why pictures of swamp milkweed are Bright Ass Vibrant Pink but all the ones I’ve gotten and that my garden server has are pale ass strawberry milk pink but yknow.
Since I’m trying to start a career in animation I’ll likely end up moving to Southern California sooner or later, and all my knowledge about swamp milkweed will be Fucking Useless. But worry not! I have another milkweed to obsess over that grows in Cali! Heartleaf Milkweed (which might be Asclepias cordifolia but I could be remembering that wrong) is GORGEOUS and it has the growth habit like Sandhill in a sense but the flowers are droopy and VELVETY PURPLE and the leaves are HEART SHAPED (kinda) so yknow. Vibes.
Anyways yeah thems the brakes pal.

Firestar or Stonefur for designs
I was just gonna draw Fire laying down but then I thought about dad fire and had to draw him looking over his little babies. His expression is a little odd but I also imagine him not sleeping much at all from a mix of staying up for his kits, having to constantly keep an out for their little shenanigans, and also yknow running all of TC.
-I changed his design to make it simpler but also more Firestar like. His last one bothered me a lot and it didn’t feel like him so I made the stripes a lot simpler, colors more orange and flamey, and a little less fluffy but still very round. He is one chubby lad I love him
-kinda Lion like. I think Lionblaze might look like a larger buffer version of him, and ofc yellow/pale brown. He gets the iconic diamond star marking right in his forehead and the little chest heart. I love the chest heart.
-HC wise he’s trans masc he/him bisexual and poly. I like to think he’s had a lot of crushes and almost full partners but his only real mates were Sandstorm and Longtail. I love me some Antagonist to lovers and I think Long being the grandparent to Jay is adorable
(ID- Firestar is laying down with his right leg over his left leg which is tucked under his chest, his back legs stretched out to the right and tail curling up and over his back. He is really round and soft with messy fur across his mane, tail tip, and face. He has really round green eyes and is staring at his kids with a loving but clearly tired expression, a smile across his face and dimples from his grin. He is mostly orange with a darker orange down his back, under his eyes, and in the middle of his tail. Darker red stripes are across his legs, on his cheeks, ears, a mask over his face, and on his back in a stripe with two up curled stripes. Yellow is on his chest in a heart, on his toes, chin, ear tips, tail tip, and in the middle of his head in a diamond shape. Lighter orange is on his mane, belly, on his tail, nose, and in the inner ear tufts in his ears. Squirrelkit is in front of his belly and is red with darker red stripes and tail, white on his tail tip, chest, ear tufts, chin, ear tips and front paws. She is shorter then Leafkit and staring at her with a happy expression and closed eyes, a large open smile at her sister. Leafkit is standing in front of Squilf and looking at her with wide happy eyes, the left green and the other amber. She is brown with darker brown stripes on her ears, on her cheeks, back, and tail with a brown heart on her shoulder just like her sisters. Tan fur is on her muzzle, chest, and legs with cream on her chest, belly, ear tips, inner ear tufts, tail tips, toes, and on her back like a fawn. The ground is just light green with squiggles for the grass and bushes behind them. End ID)

okay vincent time!!!!
hmm so the bag is brown right but sometimes he draws on it for no reason (like blush or angry eyebrows or he puts stickers on it skdjksf)
and then the shorts are also like light brown and he wears pretty tall socks that change but are most likely mismatched.
and then the shoes are just some basic shoes idk but they light up yknow. so he can run around and be funky if he so prefers.
and then. i’m kinda undecided on the shirt?? it’s very baggy probably yellow but like soft yellow not like bright yellow or maybe some pretty green like light sage green. he is sometimes also weird about his hands. so most of the time. they’re in his sleeves. i’ve never actually tried to colour him in this is just like my vision.
and he is very pale and his knees are bruised so it’s like a pop of colour almost. the band aid on his knee is probably also some fun bandaid most of the time.
anyway so he’s like kinda soft? like lowkey neutral but in a pretty way with bright socks and lit up shoes

yknow, the watcher knights really speak to the influence lurien had. monomon’s protection is uumuu, a sentient jellyfish that presumably has some ties to her, while herrah’s protection is her people, in her Den. but lurien? lurien gets an army of knights. we fight five/six, but there’s more husks in the background. who knows how many knights he had at his disposal, all ready to guard his body? what kind of power must you have to have access to that?

i saw someone’s radiorb plush in the main tag and was hit with the realization that i, too, can make the roundest radi to ever moth. she’s the biggest thing i’ve ever made thus far, which is... fitting, i think. her crown was surprisingly easy to wrangle into place, but i won’t complain sfjkghjk her face took more effort, honestly.
it’s interesting trying to simplify a design as layered as radi’s down into what is essentially a fancy ball. i thought about adding more fluff to her wings, but honestly, the triplet wing-crown-wing probably makes it cuter. also, from experience with the wooly aphid, adding more fluff just tends to look weird, so eh. simpler is better sometimes.

the abyss cutscene after you dream nail the egg is a somber one, but i do have to wonder. how does ghost know what the pale king asked of the vessels? like the pale king is clearly going ‘no mind to think, no will to break’ as ghost is climbing up to the top in the cutscene, but surely he couldnt have told each individual vessel as they hatched ‘hey heres what i want you to do’ since theres probably billions of them
the most likely answer is probably magic, somehow, or. gameplay reasons. because this is a video game. but i want to entertain the idea that ghost knows what the pale king expected of the vessels because he stood at the top and screamed it repeatedly down into the abyss

the leftmost edit feels like shes kinda, older? i dunno it just really doesnt click that thats stella. the ducky yellow in the middle is very cute but it kinda has the opposite problem in that against the artstyle of the face its a bit jarring, and it makes the orange feel like a bit much. imo the rightmost is a solid middle ground between artstyle vs color scheme.

def agree with the left one - the super pale hair makes her look like a suburban soccer mom. the right hair color is def meant to be a middle ground between the yellow and orange hair. i took it from a believix artwork, specifically one of the ones that uses more tones and blending.
one of the reasons why i usually don't use her og yellow is for that exact reason! it feels very startling against the rest of it and usually looks out of place. for this one, i found a way to tamper that and i recolored the hair lines to orange cause the weird beige ones never look good so it's definitely better compared to just putting that og yellow.
i feel like the right one is almost... too orange? like the hair being orange toned, the skin tone, the clothing, everything is just various shades of orange and i feel like it actually blends too much. she kind of looks muddled. in comparison, the middle one creates a much starker difference and makes her stand out. i feel like it's similar to the whole "don't make bloom have red hair and red clothing and red magic" thing yknow?
imo, the right one fits the wow color scheme more while the middle one is more reminiscent of og winx! i think which one people like more kind of depends on their nostalgia factor and how much they like wow (separately and part of the winx universe). people who don't love wow as much will likely enjoy the middle one more while people who like wow or didn't mind it, might enjoy the right one more.
