i need to actually remember for my writing that my main hc for why Childe is Like That is that he saw something real and true just once in his life and has been chasing that high ever since despite it being a massively traumatizing experience
kind of like a very weird Lovecraft protagonist

oh my fucking god i feel. SO stupid rn at How i didnt make the (super sane very normal just absolutely. Yes. Surely) connection earlier but uhh
so anyway im now like 89% certain that whatever the "traces" of the narwhal that remain on ajax and facilitate their (ever-growing) innate connection are like. an actually fundamental aspect of it (them?) more or less.
why? because if you consider its pov just for a moment. the narwhal was literally about to depart teyvat for good. it had nearly finished consuming the primordial sea and preparing to breach surface to finish the job by eating the french for the leftovers their human bodies were made from. its an interstellar voyager it does not linger on planets it devours. it goes glug glug and it leaves.
and like if it wasnt for traveler intervening its confirmed through narzissenkreuz and renes world formula that teyvat wouldve just been destroyed. no one could have stopped the narwhal not neuvillette not focalors not anyone.
so what was the one other thing it did right before going for that french brunch? calling for ajax. getting them reunited in the primordial sea. like all the possible implications aside bc theres many different ways to speculate on the exact reasons why and the nature of that link. the point remains.
it wasnt leaving teyvat without finding him.
like the narwhal is about to fucking Dip from this cringe planet and whatever part of it that ajax carries within himself his narwhal Absolutely wanted to be reunited with. what the fuck am i supposed to read from that. hoyo???????!??! answers?!?!?!
and its not only the calling from the narwhal side itself either bc this is ALL coinciding with the growth of a 'restless power' within ajax and his vision malfunctioning (the things celestia is literally confirmed to harvest energy thru to repair its damaged authority) and his connection with the narwhal reaching an actual conscious level (arguably subconscious n emotional too bc i find it Curious his mood is poor right as the narwhal is repeatedly described as positively malding to the point its boss fight mechanic is literally a rage meter). ajax' power is growing. his destiny is starting to shift and something is drawing him to fontaine... right as the narwhal is getting close to finished with the primordial sea. funny how it overlaps eh. how it aligns 🤨🤨 why are they orbiting each other like this (they should kiss)
(& not to even Mention how ajax just Happened to get that absolutely exponential and borderline unbelievable feat of power spike in extending his foul legacy endurance as massively as he did. while. within the primordial sea. with his narwhal. who had at that point all but incorporated the power of that sea into itself. i s2g if childe was getting passive home turf co-op bonus exp with a 4x multiplier automatically the whole 40+ days 💀💀)

you can blame @setsailslash for it, they requested a charity commission for gen bruce and jason, which got me into batfam and got me looking at jason, and then their luscious body of work (kuro49 on ao3) and me digging through the dc kinkmeme (i love kinkmemes SO much) pushed me towards writing any which way and that was game over..... i fell into the (bat)hole and i can't get out :')
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
one of the things i really like about them is just how aggressively, flagrantly different they are!! rich vs. poor, old vs. young, bruce who keeps having people die on him vs. jason as the one who actually dies, to kill or not to kill.... it's a struggle to imagine anything that they would agree on, which makes it even better if one of the few things they do (agree on) is that they want to deeply deeply care for each other 🥲🥲🥲
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
i don't know enough about what's popular for the ship to say 🧐 uhmmm i'm only interested in post-pit jaybru, because i like them to have a more equal power dynamic bc this means they can whale on each other with the full force of their violence (and care) in a more equitable manner??? does that count???
re: post marriage head canons for an insistent knead
the fic itself is a secret sequel to a quarterly review, in case you haven't read that one!
as for after they get married.... i imagine they're still mostly the same! they don't move in together, bc they're both large predators that need some measure of space, but bruce absolutely stops manwhoring about and starts wearing a ring. when he gets asked about it he'll say he got married [true] and then talk at length about his mystery man [rampant and increasingly bizarre lies]
they want it to be honest but they want it to be secret, so they probably got their marriage registered in like ecuador or something, bruce with a fake b-name jason with his own, so when an interviewer asks bruce just winks and goes i'm legally married [somewhere? somewhere warm??] and then he'll just lie about every other aspect, talks about how his husband's much older than he is, they're never seen together bc his (elderly) man has mobility issues [segue into improving accessibility in gotham], they're very happy together, so happy together in fact that on their wedding night [it must've been spring! unless it was summer!] in a fit of exuberance his partner snapped his hip like a wishbone in bed.... he's rich [richer than bruce is, unless stocks have ??? deflated??? who's to say maybe he's richer again now haha] and handsome and bruce is just lying lying lying with gleeful abandon until a reporter asks uhm but are u happy though? do u love him though?
and bruce goes all melty and embarrassing and goes yes, then he leans over so he gets closer to the mic and looks straight into the camera and says i hope he knows i love him almost more than anything 🥺 and the interviewer goes almost? and bruce grins and says i have kids no one can be my favourite so everyone is second best 🥰
jump cut to jason w a coffee mug that says world's [added on in sharpee] 2nd best husband going baby i'll show u the type of loving that'll snap the hip of an older lover :)))) wow i got carried away but yes basically after they get married they're still mostly the same except in all the ways they get worse (affectionate)

FUN FACTS BELOW !! :
♡ The LARGEST known shark in today age (LARGER than a schppl bus :O )
♡ Their literally organic filters! 😋 Meaning they can neither bite OR chew. And instead filter small fish and such in their mouth!
♡ Guess how stretchy their mouth is? 4 FEET WIDE! Thats literally the size of a HOCKEY NET!
♡ Are you an adventurous type and would LOVE to swim near these big fellas, well todays your day because they literally can be found ANWHERE! (Except for the mediterrian sea) In warm waters of course. :D
♡ Could you outrun outswim a whale shark? Well for anybody that competive, you got yourself an easy win! Why? Because they can only swim at not 10, not even 7 or 5 BUT ONLY 3/mph! slower than my grand papa 👴
♡ Makes you really wonder how they can migrate thousands of miles all around just to feed! Their quite motivated arent they?
♡ Their quite literally, a ocean-made strainer! When they close their mouth in a big chunk of small fish, plankton, etc. You may wonder if they just swallow the water with it, but thats far from the truth! Instead they use their gills to just strain the water out!
♡ Your probaly thinking that theirs nothing else intresting about these big sea dogs, WELL DO I HABE SOMETHING FOR YOU!
Did you know they have teeth on their eyes? You read right, TEETH! Their super tiny and are called dermal denticles, baha what a funky name- anyhow, why would a shark need this? Do they somehow eat out of their eyes too? Nope! Its protection against anythong out to harm them as they DONT have eyelids 👀
♡ Wanna know something really neat? Whale sharks can literally live up to 5 generations! A generation is qbout 20-30 while these sharks can live from 70 all the way up to 100!!
☆Now these sharks are all cute and dandy but their is a underlying issue here, their endangered sadly, over the last 75 years their population has dwindled more than 50% and still decreasing each year due to unfortunate truth of them global warming, water pollution and being fished,
where they're captured and have their fins and meat be taken, only to be dropped back into the harsh waters as their forced to suffocate and bleed out...
These whales are EXTREMELY important as their a long term regulation of plankton, with to much plankton it can start to harm the fish, shellfish, birds, mammals and even YOU! ☆
