Forgot to mention that I finished 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I would say it shows some of the very best qualities of mid-century sf. While obviously very dated, it's actually pretty fun letting Arthur C Clarke write for you about what he thinks space flight will be in 2001 from his perspective very shortly before the first moon landing. The man loved describing procedures and sketching out the engineering, and was eyeball deep in everything at the time.
It's definitely on the harder end of scifi, at least if you let it get away with its premise that early hominids weren't developing tool use or eating meat on their own (insane, but critical to the premise) and you can tolerate the extremely trippy (and quintessentially 60s) ending.
Downside: It's 1960s about women (mostly omitting them or showing women in smiling service roles) and everyone is safe to assume white and American except like, one Russian guy. It's relatively nonpainful for 1960s sf as far as these things go, but it bears saying.
If you put me on the spot and ask me to say something that maybe sounds smart about it, the best I've got is that a mythos of humanity requiring a benevolent outer entity to intervene in order to develop higher intelligence and society? Pull the Halloween mask off and guess who: it's a narrative about "higher" societies and "lesser" ones inherited from the age of colonization again! (It really does just keep turning up like a bad penny once you start looking for it in your fiction?) But that's not like, the central thesis of 2001. It's what they're using to excuse the mystery and wonder they were going for, and.... Okay. I can roll with it in good faith.
If you've seen the movie, it really is the four major sections of the movie (monkey time, space plane, bowman and pals on discovery, insane endgame mindfuck) and even though there are some mildly different details, you can tell the two things were being written together. If you're like me and have no patience and can't stand a fucking mystery, the novel's willingness to spell everything out about what's going on is so soothing.
The most important thing of all is that Hal was just a little guy trying so hard to do a good job and ending up in an impossible situation. He was just a little baby. Not even Bowman can hate him.

eating your boyfriend us LITERALLY more intimate than sex most of the time...
far more fun too
lets you learn all about him, and have a good, nonpainful meal
its infinitely better than sex. then again most things are, its not a very high bar to cross...

A question on zoophilia for the fucker defending it:
Tw for genitalia mention and animal abuse mention.
So. You say animals can consent to a human, right? It’s moral and fine, as you say.
Okay. Let’s say a hamster. Or a mouse.
Can they consent? Is that moral?
The average length of a penis is 5 inches.
The average length of house mice is 3 inches.
The average girth/width of a penis is 3 inches.
The average girth/width of house mice is about 2-3 inches, sometimes less.
How is that moral?
That would be excrutiatingly painful. If a small animal was penetrated by a human male, it would likely be killed. It would suffer inhumanely and die.
And before you say,
“Okay, well small animals are different!!!!”
Why? You say mental capacity doesn’t exist. So why? Why should it be some animals and not others?
You say “well how come some acts with animals like killing is fine but sex is the exception???”
Well, if you say “not small animals”:
Why can some animals have sex with humans and why can some not?
Do you see your fucking contradictions yet, @dishonest-antis? Do you? Because I do. And everyone fucking else does too.
How come you’re so against killing animals, but you support acts that have and will lead to EXCRUTIATING deaths for animals?
Here’s a list of things that an animal will likely experience due to sex with a human:
Tumblr media
Do any of these seem moral, nonpainful, or “fun” for an animal? Do these seem fucking moral to you? Do they? Do the animals that were killed by sex with humans seem like they had “fun” to you, you fucking piece of shit? DO THEY?
How can you fucking have the AUDACITY to say you “are super against animals being killed because it’s immoral uwwuwuwu” WHEN YOU’RE SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES THAT INSTEAD CAUSE THEM TO SUFFER OR DIE SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY?
Not to fucking mention, it’s extremely dangerous for humans as well.
There is a huge list of diseases that humans can catch from having sex with animals. How is that moral? Is that okay? Is that fucking okay to you too, huh?
Here’s a short list of some that are very frequent for having sex with animals:
https://www.omicsonline.org/open-access/health-risks-of-zoophiliabestiality.php?aid=87470
So how the fuck is it moral and okay to do something that causes the animal to suffer long term or die in excrutiating pain whenever you fucking pretend that you’re wanting to stop killing animals?
Fuck. You.
Heres my damn sources, I don’t need many to prove this idiot wrong:

The Mind And Words Of Osamu Dazai
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12936629/1/The-Mind-and-Words-of-Osamu-Dazai
https://archiveofourown.org/works/14765912
This was my first drabble and is actually my favorite one. I want to do another angst drabble like this one sometime soon. One that's emotion-focused I had a really fun time when writing this.
It was because of this drabble that started me on the path for me to feel confident in rping Dazai with my girlfriend ^////^ (who is my forever Chuuya) that and she has given me a lot of confidence in being him.
If you haven’t already read this drabble of mine then you can either click the links above or the keep reading button below to view this drabble.
If you have any questions please don’t be hesitant to ask, I really like talking to people!
Dazai's apartment 12:00 am
The moon was dimly lit for once as it's light gently flowed within Dazai's apartment. Dazai could be seen laying on his back as he looked up towards his ceiling. Something was wrong, no it's not that it was wrong, it was just happening again. This feeling that came after excessive use of using his ability.
"No, Longer, Human…" Daizai mumbled slowly.
"What am I? I am Osamu Dazai, but that is a who not a what. I am not human, yet my body is human. I am not some mythical creature or some powerful spirit, I am just not human.
I am nothing, nor do I desire anything-no that's not true I desire something, I desire death. But why? Or do I desire life? I do not want a painful death but I have found many nonpainful ways to commit suicide." Turning to left and then turning to the right Daizai slowly rolled around on his futon, forcing himself to move. He would accept this situation but he wouldn't lay still doing it, he didn't like to be still while in this mood, it almost scared him for some unknown reason.
"So why do I not use any of them… Well now that I think of it maybe I do have a reason, or to more precise just small reasons. I want to save people, I want to do as Oda asked me, in the long run, I am more happy with myself." As Daizai turned he faced his ceiling, staring at nothing.
"I wish I could have saved him, but there is no turning back…. Time is just too cruel." He whispered as tears fell from his face, they wouldn't stop, he didn't even bother to try and stop them. It was pointless, just like this mood.
"I like the A.D.A, I feel genuinely happy being there. But despite that feeling, it will sometimes slip through the cracks of my mind. I won't feel anything yet I want to at the same time, isn't that feeling something? What is wrong with me, why does everything I feel seep away into those cracks. Where do they even go?" slowly Dazai reached out his hands wondering if he could catch those feelings. He'd never be able to but for some reason, he felt the urge to reach within the darkness of his room.
"I am just I tired. I am something like that but tired of what, myself? For once that feels almost right haha. I'm so tired that when I can breathe I cannot at the same time, though I feel every emotion I feel nothing. As I touch anything I forgot it's feeling in an instant, as I taste it fades just before touching my tongue." Turing to his right side Dazai closed his eyes and tried to breathe, his tears still fell quickly down his face.
"I see clearly and yet right now I see something that should be human but isn't, I can't hear right now because I hold my ears down so tight that even the voice in my head can't make a sound." Dazai had opened his eyes and stared into the rectangle mirror in front of him.
"Why won't my body let me die? Why won't my mind let me live? Why am I no longer human? Maybe I was never human, maybe I will never be human, but if I am not human what am I? What was even the answer I said before… ?" Dazai asked with a frown that soon turned into a sad smile.
"Say do you know what makes a person a human… Do you know why I am no longer human, can someone tell me why. Can someone tell me why I am so conflicted, why does everything dissipate in my mind? Please just let me be human for once even just one day...Just one day please…" He lifted his left hand reaching out to the mirror that suddenly became illuminated by the dim light of the moon.
Dazai continued to lay there, reaching out not moving even an inch, he just cried as everything about him disappeared into the particles of the moonlight.
He no longer is human, nor will he ever be.

Being Alone, Beautiful, and Bones: Cheetah A shy, sweet, affectionate & broken hearted middle aged lady just wants to go back to the life she loved & lost when her parent died. Id 72225, 7 Yrs., 8 9 Lbs. of Love, Spayed & Waiting with Hope, at Brooklyn ACC TO BE KILLED – 8/24/2019 “He was my North, my South, my East and West, my working week and my Sunday rest, my noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.” -- W. H. Auden Her owner died. It was that simple. And in that moment, she lost everything she had ever known, and everything she had loved and lived for. Affectionate, gentle, well behaved and sweet, this middle aged lady had known the joys of being loved, of being cherished, and of being an integral part of a family. When there were fireworks or other loud, scary noises, her parent would hold her close, cuddle her and whisper in her ear “don’t worry, honey, it will be alright” and calm her fears. When people would come to the home and she didn’t know them, she might try to flee and hide, but after a bit, and when she got to know them, she welcomed them with open paws and would play exuberantly. She liked to show off her commands, she loved to play with ropes and bones, and she adored playing in her back yard. Life was beautiful. Life was sweet. But now her life will be over, just like that of her parent, if no one will take in Cheetah and give her back her smile. Yes, she is heartbroken, and yes she is sad and confused. But in the hands of an experienced foster or adopter who can give her a calm, quiet, structured adult only home, she will be the big, sweet, silly and loving dog she has always been. Being Alone, Beautiful, and Bones: Cheetah A shy, sweet, affectionate & broken hearted middle aged lady just wants to go back to the life she loved & lost when her parent died. Id 72225, 7 Yrs., 8 9 Lbs. of Love, Spayed & Waiting with Hope, at Brooklyn ACC TO BE KILLED – 8/20/2019 “He was my North, my South, my East and West, my working week and my Sunday rest, my noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.” -- W.
