After watching Cinderella (the original animated movie, which was my favorite as a child), it strikes me how it solves many common problems people have with this fairy tale. Like:
Why did they try to identify the mystery girl using her shoe size? Because the bullheaded king's only clue to her identity was the shoe the Grand Duke picked up off the steps.
Why didn't the prince recognize her by her face? Because his father wouldn't involve him in the process at all, and wasn't the one going around trying to find her.
Why did the prince want to marry a lady he only met that night? Because his father was going to force him to marry someone, and he genuinely liked this woman.
Why did Cinderella want to marry a man she only met that night? Because marriage was her best and most secure way to freedom. Fucked up, but you can't say it's unrealistic for the setting of a fairy tale. She also genuinely liked him.
If they're using the slipper to find her, wouldn't it be more sensible to search for the person with the other slipper? Yes. The King is purposefully nonsensical and the Duke is purposefully terrified enough of him to carry out his orders to the letter. Furthermore, they end up doing that in the end anyway, because the Duke's glass slipper is shattered, and Cinderella brings out the one she has to prove her identity.
Why didn't the stepmother and stepsisters recognize Cinderella at the ball? Because they were dancing too far away, and then left the party to dance in private, which was possible because the King wanted very badly for his son to hit it off with someone and tried to arrange the best conditions for that to happen.
Why didn't Cinderella save herself? Because in real life, abuse victims should not have to shoulder that responsibility, and usually can't. In real life, you need and deserve an external support system. Asking for help, in this kind of situation, is very important. She is saved by others because she is loved. Because she is not alone. Because she has friends who love her, and want her to be happy and safe and free. Because in real life, people who want to help someone who is suffering are like the mice. We can't pull out miracle solutions, but we can provide companionship and if we're in the right place at the right time, we can help the person find a better life.
Why didn't the fairy godmother save Cinderella from her abusive household, or try to help her sooner? Because she's magic, and magic can't solve your problems. Quote: "Like all dreams, well, I'm afraid it can't last forever." This (and Cinderella's dream of going to the ball) is a metaphor for pleasurable things in bad circumstances. An ice cream won't get rid of your depression, but it will provide you with momentary happiness to bolster you, as well as the reminder that happiness in general is still possible for you. Cinderella doesn't want to go to the ball so she can get away from her stepmother and stepsisters, or so she can meet someone to marry and leave with. She wants to go to the ball to remind herself that she can still have things she wants. That her desires matter. This is important because the movie does a very good job of illustrating Lady Tremaine's subtle abuse tactics, all of which invisibly press the message that Cinderella doesn't matter. While going to the ball and fulfilling her dreams may not be a victory in the material sense, it is still a victory against Lady Tremaine's efforts.
Why is Cinderella's choice to be kind and obedient framed as a good thing, when you are not obligated to be kind to your abuser? This one walks a very fine line, but I think the movie still makes it make sense. Lady Tremaine never acknowledges her cruelty. She always frames her punishments of Cinderella as Cinderella's fault. Cinderella is interrupting, Cinderella is shirking her duties, Cinderella is playing vicious practical jokes. Cinderella is still a member of the family, of course she can go to the ball, provided she meet these impossible conditions. Lady Tremaine's tactics are designed to make Cinderella feel like she must always be in the wrong and her stepmother must always be in the right. If Cinderella calls her stepmother out on her cruelty, or attempts to fight back, Lady Tremaine can frame that as Cinderella being ungrateful, cruel, broken, evil, etc. If Cinderella responds to her stepmother's cruelty defiantly (in the way she's justified to), she's not taking control out of Lady Tremaine's hands. Disobedience can be spun back into her stepmother's control. She wants Cinderella to be angry and sad and show how much she's hurting. So since Cinderella is adapting to her situation, she chooses to be kind. Not only because she naturally wants to be and it's part of her personality, but because it is a form of defiance in its own way, and it allows her to keep a reminder of her agency and value. Her choice to be kind is her chance to keep her own narrative alive: she is not obeying because her stepmother wants her to and she has to do what her stepmother does, but because she wants to. It's a small distinction, but one that makes all the difference in terms of keeping her hope and identity. (Fuck, I wrote a whole paragraph about how this doesn't mean you can't be angry at people who hurt you or that you need to be kind to deserve help, and then deleted it by accident. Uh. Try again.) Expressing anger and pain is an important part of regaining autonomy and healing. Although it is commendable to be kind while you are suffering, it is NOT required for you to get help or be worthy of help. If Cinderella's recovery was explored beyond "happily ever after" she would need to let herself be angry and sad to heal. Cinderella is not only kind because it comes naturally to her, but because it's her defense against the abuse she's suffering. Everyone's story and experiences are different, and one does not invalidate the other.
Bonus round for answers that aren't part of the movie:
Why didn't Cinderella run away? Where would she go? Genuinely, in hundreds-of-years-ago France, where would she go if she snuck out of the window with a change of clothes? With her step-family, she's miserable and abused, but she's fed, clothed, and in no danger of dying or being taken advantage of by anyone other than her stepmother and stepsisters. Even if she escapes and manages to find financial security, her stepmother might be able to find her and get her back.
Why didn't Cinderella burn the house down with them inside it/slit their throats in the night/poison their food/etc.? Because that's a revenge fantasy, and this story is a fantasy about being saved. There's nothing wrong with making Cinderella into a revenge fantasy. That's perfectly fine, as long as you acknowledge that the other type of fantasy is also a valid interpretation. (I mean, the original fairy tale features the stepsisters getting their feet mutilated and all three of them getting their eyes pecked out, so go for it.)
Why isn't Cinderella more proactive in general? Because she's a child who has been abused for the back half of her life, who has had to be focused on survival because. you know. she's an abused kid.
How did she dance in glass slippers? Gotta agree with you there man, that's weird.

A Prophecy of Shadows
              ↳ a wip introduction by @clockwork-storyteller
❝ Our story begins in the land of Altisora on the 90th year in what was called the Age of Light. It certainly wasn’t the best of times, but it was certainly better than what had come before. It was better because the invaders from the Dark Realms had been confined within the Shadowwake. The Dark Realms had been trying to invade Altisora under the leadership of King Regevis. He wanted to make this world his own as well. The people of Altisora had been fighting back for decades, but had, thus far, been unsuccessful. Eventually, the gods of this world, whose names had been long since forgotten, stepped in. The people had forgotten about them in such a time of darkness, and they were quickly losing their power. So, they decided to save their people with what little power they had left. They gave their power to the people. Well, some of the people.
The gods gave them the power to see beyond the mundane. They gave them the ability to see the future. ❞

SUMMARY
Seers wander the lands of Altisora, holding the power to see the future. But these Seers do not walk free. They are hunted by the three largest political powers in Altisora: The Layann Empire, ruled by Empress Rhea, The Kingdom of Sorgiia, ruled by King Azel, and The Allesani Territories, ruled by Sovereign Reyle, in an effort to keep their power. But as one Seer runs across Altisora in hopes of survival, they deliver one last prophecy. One that would change the fate of Altisora.
For some context, years ago, the creatures from the Dark Realms had invaded Altisora. But with a gift from the long since forgotten gods, the Seers were given their power and thus contained the invaders into the Shadowwake. The Shadowwake is ruled by King Verebris, a mysterious and calculating ruler.
Now, back to that big prophecy. The prophecy that stated that 3 heroes would rise up and take control of the Shadowwake. This prophecy was delivered in 3 parts, the first in Layann, the second in Sorgiia, and the third in Allesani. The towns in which each part of the prophecy was given to believe it to be about them, about one of their people. And neither of the towns know that there is more to the prophecy.
Zell, from the town Sidécera in the Layann Empire, has been trained since birth to take her place as the hero from the prophecy. She, along with another member of her town, could fit the descriptors given in the prophecy. The two of them undergo a series of trials over the course of three years. At the end of those trials, the two will fight to the death. The survivor must be the only one worthy of fulfilling the prophecy, and Zell has decided that she will win. After all, she told herself that she’d ask out Ari, that cute flower seller at the market, if she survives.
Hasea lives in Ulties, a city of hatred and fear. Everyone who was around to hear the prophecy has either left or died by the time it could be fulfilled. The prophecy has been a beacon of hope to everyone in Ulties. Well, everyone but the possible hero, that is. King Azel sent a troop of his cruel guards down to Ulties to patrol for the pirates rumored to be roaming the Southern Coast of Sorgiia, but Azel has an ulterior motive for sending those guards down. Hasea knows she could be the hero, but she also has bigger problems to worry about. Her and her older sister Bella need to help feed their family, and they can’t do that if Hasea’s off saving the world.
Kair is the son of a prominent military leader, stationed in Teniris, one of the largest military towns in Allesani. Kair never knew about the prophecy, because Teniris is the town where the Seer who delivered the prophecy was found and killed. Kair does have a significant weight upon his shoulders, despite not knowing about the prophecy. He is expected to take over his father’s position as soon as he turns 21. But when Kair is invited to stay and study in the Sovereign’s palace, he can’t exactly say no, can he? And he can’t leave behind his best friend Ordza, who’s always dreamed of studying to be the Sovereign’s Chief Arcanist, can he?
And while these 3 heroes are walking right into their destiny, whether they like it or not, revolution is brewing across Altisora. A Seer’s Rebellion, to be more specific. This rebellion is led by Kiran, a young seer who hopes to end the public executions of their people. Kiran’s goal is to train a new generation of Seers. One who will survive, despite being hunted. But the seer’s rebellion is getting some unexpected help. Leonn Iborris, the son of King Azel, has been confronted with a terrifying realization, and would rather help the rebellion against his family than acknowledge the truth.
CHARACTERS
ZELL: (she/her) Zell, one of the possible heroes of Sidécera, is strong and fearless, but only because she has to be. Zell has been raised since birth to be a fighter, but she wishes that she had the chance to just exist as Zell, not as the woman who will fulfill a prophecy. Despite being a fairly solitary person, Zell craves a close companionship that is hard to find when everyone sees you as a mythical hero instead of just a person.
ARI: (they/them) Ari has grown up working in their parents’ flower shop in the market of Sidécera, but they want more than anything to leave. Ari has never felt any real connection with anyone in Sidécera, and has been aching to let down the resilient walls they keep up day in and day out. But Ari will wait for the right moment to finally escape. They’ve gotten good at waiting, after all.
HASEA: (she/her) Hasea is a cunning young woman, but she wishes she was anything but. Having to lie and steal to feed her family for years is exhausting, but Hasea knows that she doesn’t have much of a choice. She likes to dream that she could be the hero in the prophecy, though. No one is really considered important in Ulties. No one except for the hero, that is. And Hasea would love to be a little important, just once.
BELLA: (she/her) Bella has never hated Ulties the way most people do. She’s never hated having to steal to survive the way that her younger sister Hasea has. Whenever she lies to save herself or steals to keep her and her family alive, it makes Bella feel like she she has some control over her life, a feeling that’s fairly uncommon in Ulties. But she wishes she got to choose who to protect. She loves her sister, but has always been stifled by the obligation to protect her family just because she was born to them.
KAIR: (he/him) Kair has never had a shortage of responsibility. Raised by a prominent military leader, Kair has been taught since he was a child to prioritize his Sovereign over anyone else and forsake his own thoughts and feelings for his duty. But despite these lessons ingrained into him, Kair continues to care. He is kind in a world where that is one of the most dangerous things to be. Kair is a relentlessly optimistic man, despite his looming future.
ORDZA: (she/her) Ordza is an ambitious woman, which is especially foolish for someone in her position. As Kair’s tutor, she is expected to teach him and nothing more. But still Ordza wants more. She dreams of training to be the Sovereign’s Chief Arcanist, but she knows she has no chance. But still, Ordza wants more than what she’s been given. She wants the option of choice, rather than accepting how it is and refusing to want better.
KIRAN: (they/them) Kiran is a good and strong leader, and though they’d like to say it’s because they love leading the Seer’s Rebellion, that would be a lie. Kiran does love leading the rebellion, but they also deeply understand the need for such a group of people like them and the gravity of what they’re doing. As they’ve led the rebellion for years, Kiran has never had much of anyone to rely on and has bore the burden on their own. But when an errant prince decides to help, Kiran begins to rethink their reluctance to rely on others.
LEONN: (he/him) Much like his father, King Azel of Sorgiia, Leonn is a headstrong man. Just not in the way his father would want. Leonn is strong in his beliefs, which is good for a future king, but not when those beliefs differ so drastically from those of his father. Despite his high position, Leonn has very little sway over the governing choices of his father, but he stilly tries. He decides to help the Seer’s Rebellion rather than confront a harsh truth about himself.
VEREBRIS: (he/him) Verebris is a child who was thrust into a war he wanted no part in. After the death of his father, Verebris prematurely inherited the throne of the Dark Realms, but he was quickly overthrown in a coup and used as a pawn in a game of politics. He wishes he had the power to take back his thrown and stop the injustices being committed by his people, but he knows that he’d be killed without a second thought if he tried. And and imprisoned king is better than a dead one, isn’t he?
RHEA: (she/her) Rhea is a manipulative Empress, to say the least. She is a woman who is comfortable in her power and makes sure everyone knows not to try and take it from her. Rhea is known for her political assassinations, a method she used to keep her subordinates in line. She has no qualms about lying to further her own goals, but would much rather flaunt her wealth and power in some extravagant manner than put in the necessary work.
AZEL: (he/him) Azel, much like Rhea, is a king who loves his power and will go to extreme lengths to prevent it being taken from him. He is a man who has had lots of power his entire lire, and has become quite fond of the feeling of being in complete control. Azel is also a stubborn man, but that same quality that is so positive within his son has caused him from losing Sorgiia quite a few political alliances.
REYLE: (they/them) Reyle is a cunning and calculating ruler, but in a way very different than Rhea. The Allesani government does not allow extreme amounts of power to go to the Sovereign, so they figured out how to use more power than they are given. Reyle has a talent in convincing people to accomplish their goals for them, which has allowed them to have more control over their people than one would assume.

Self-Care: 12 Ways to Take Better Care of Yourself
1. Make sleep part of your self-care routine.
Sleep can have a huge effect on how you feel both emotionally and physically. Not getting enough can even cause major health issues. But stress and other distractions can wreak havoc on our sleep.
What do you do to make sleep part of a self-care routine? Start by thinking about your nightly routine. Are you eating or drinking immediately before bed? If so, it's especially important to stay away from caffeine and sugar, which tend to keep you awake.
Reducing stress is also key. If you have work-related stress, think about the best ways to calm yourself after a hard day or relax more while on the job. You might talk to your employer about lessening your workload or settle a disagreement with a coworker.
Next, make sure your bedroom is the best possible place for you to get good REM sleep. It should be free of distractions (such as a television, laptop, cellphone, etc.). And make sure you have room-darkening curtains to keep the sun from waking you up too early in the mornings.
2. Take care of yourself by taking care of your gut.
Your gut health can have a significant impact on your health, well-being, and feelings of vitality. The types of foods you eat crucially impact the bacteria that live in your stomach, resulting in a cascade of either positive or negative outcomes. An unhappy gut can lead to an unhappy person, and vice-versa.
3. Exercise daily as part of your self-care routine.
We all know exercise is good for us, but do we really know how good it is? Daily exercise can help you both physically and mentally, boosting your mood and reducing stress and anxiety, not to mention helping you shed extra weight.
Of course, it might be hard to go to the gym every day, so try to incorporate other exercises, such as walking, tennis, or yoga, which may be able to fit into your schedule more easily. The most important thing is to create a routine that works for you.
4. Eat right for self-care.
The food we eat has the potential to either keep us healthy or contribute to weight gain or diseases such as diabetes, but it can also keep our minds working and alert. Eating the right foods can help prevent short-term memory loss and inflammation, both of which can have long-term effects on the brain and, in turn, the rest of the body. Some of the most amazing self-care foods include fatty fish, blueberries, nuts, green leafy veggies, and brassicas, like broccoli.
5. Say no to others, and say yes to your self-care.
Learning to say no is really hard; many of us feel obligated to say yes when someone asks for our time or energy. However, if you’re already stressed or overworked, saying yes to loved ones or coworkers can lead to burnout, anxiety, and irritability. It may take a little practice, but once you learn how to politely say no, you'll start to feel more empowered, and you'll have more time for your self-care.
6. Take a self-care trip.
Taking a self-care trip can make a huge difference in your life. Even if you’re not feeling particularly stressed, getting away for a weekend every now and then can help you disconnect, relax, and be rejuvenated. These self-care trips don’t have to be costly; simply drive to the next town over and see the sights, or go camping nearby. The goal is to veer away from your normal schedule and take the time to do something just for yourself.
7. Take a self-care break by getting outside.
Spending time outside can help you reduce stress, lower your blood pressure, and be more mindful. Studies have even shown that getting outside can help reduce fatigue, making it a great way to overcome symptoms of depression or burnout. Getting outside can also help you sleep better at night, especially if you do some physical activity, like hiking or walking, while you are outside.
8. Let a pet help you with your self-care.
Pets can bring a boost to our lives. From giving unconditional love to providing companionship, pets can be hugely beneficial for our self-care. Dogs especially can help reduce stress and feelings of anxiety and can even lower blood pressure. In fact, many people who suffer from disorders like PTSD have benefited from working daily with animals, which is why service dogs have become so helpful for these individuals.
9. Take care of yourself by getting organized.
Getting organized is often the first step to becoming a healthier you, because it allows you to figure out exactly what you need to do to take better care of yourself. A small change, like keeping a planner or a calendar on the fridge, can help you write down all your responsibilities and appointments, while at the same time keeping your life a bit more organized. You can also create an area to keep keys, purses, backpacks, briefcases, and coats, and make sure they’re ready to go for the next day.
10. Cook at home to care for yourself.
Many people don’t take the time to make themselves meals, preferring instead to stop for fast food or popping a pre-made meal in the microwave. But these "fast" meals aren’t usually sufficient when it comes to feeding your body the right kinds of calories and nutrients. Even if it’s only once a week, consider making a healthy meal for yourself or your whole family. You could even look into a meal delivery service or meal kit that can help you get started.
11. Read a book on self-care for self-care.
In today’s fast-paced world, we tend to turn to our phones for entertainment or comfort, scrolling through news feeds that can contribute to our stress and anxiety rather than helping it. Instead, consider bringing a book with you when you leave the house. Even better, bring books on self-care, so that you can learn more about how to take care of yourself while you are taking care of yourself. You might be amazed at the difference it can make when you slow down instead of always looking at your phone. Not only can it help improve your mood, but it can also help you to stay more present and mindful.
12. Schedule your self-care time, and guard that time with everything you have.
It can be hard for us all to find extra time. But it’s extremely important to plan regular self-care time. Moments alone can help you to ponder the best ways to move forward in your life and keep you grounded. And moments with friends can help you feel more connected and relaxed.

A Gothic AU: Chapter 2 - Proper Impropriety
I feel weird calling these chapters. It seems too formal.
As an aside, I’m bad at proof-reading, naming chapters, and sleeping. I hope people enjoy this though?
Read on AO3 here.
Warnings: Nightmares? Horses? I’m not good at these either. Nothing serious though.
Dinner was a delicious affair, with beautifully cooked vegetables and meats for the group. Faith knew how to organise her staff, and she seemed to remember Rook’s preferences for food, something which shouldn’t have surprised Rook as much as it did, given the number of times the two had snuck into kitchens together.
Rook chanced conversation too, attempting to ignore her natural shy streak in favour of boldness.
“Mister Jacob said he used to be a soldier, but what about you two, Mister Joseph and Mister John?” She smiled and took a small sip of her wine. “I must admit, Faith managed to gush about you all while saying as little as possible about your actual lives.” John instantly perked up at that.
“Oh? What did she say about us then? All good things, I should hope.” Rook laughed, nodding.
“Oh yes, never an unkind word. Mostly about how good and attentive to her needs you all are, and how kind you all are, and how she wished she could see you all more often, other such things that tell me you’re all fine gentlemen without telling me anything about who you actually are.” Faith poked her tongue out and Rook in response, making Rook laugh and shake her head. “It’s not my fault you’re terrible at descriptions.”
The brothers chuckled at Faiths mock-pouting before Joseph took a sip and answered. “Well, I run the estate and John is a barrister in town.” Rook couldn’t help the mild look of surprise at his first statement, taking another sip of her wine and a small bite of her meal.
“If you don’t mind my asking, why do you run the estate instead of Mister Jacob. I would’ve thought, as the oldest, that he would’ve been the assumed heir.” Joseph seemed to grimace a little at the question, and Rook internally cursed herself for her lack of tact. Of course they would mind her asking, it was probably a sore point.
At least, she assumed it was before Jacob let out a small chuckle. “Curious, aren’t you Miss Rook?” He smiled at her, waving a hand as though to dismiss any lingering concern from his brother. “Being the heir never really interested me. I wanted to get out and fight for my country. Our father didn’t want his heir out doing military service, so Joseph assumed that role and I got to pursue a military career.”
Rook nodded, looking thoughtful. “That’s rather brave of you. Not many would eschew an inheritance to pursue their dreams.” She took another bite of her meal, a sad sort of smile on her face.
“Jacob is very brave, and while he may have had to retire earlier than he liked, I was more than glad to welcome him home”, Joseph said with a small smile at his brother. Rook couldn’t help but smile at the warmth between the brothers, indeed in the family. As an only child, she’d longed for such companionship.
They finished up their meals and moved instead to the drawing-room, the men pouring drinks and setting up a game of cards. She was a little surprised when they asked both Faith and her to join them, but she happily agreed. They started a round before discussion began again.
“So, do you enjoy practising law, Mister John?” Rook asked as he dealt. John chuckled a little in response.
“Enjoy is perhaps too weak of a word for it. My oldest brother may have pursued victory on a battlefield, but victory in a courtroom is perhaps just as sweet.” Jacob rolled his eyes at that, but John seemingly didn’t notice.
“I don’t fight people, not really. Sure, I present an argument, but arguing is the least important part of my job. I convince people, Miss Rook. I sway their views so that they see what I want them to see. I don’t win a physical victory; I achieve victory over what matters most.” He tapped his chest as he finished dealing. “I win their hearts and minds, and that is something that is infinitely sweet, and it’s something they can never get back.”
Rook was entranced by his words, at least until Faith giggled beside her. She looked over at Faith with a questioning eyebrow raised. “He loves that spiel. He constantly adds to it, but it’s always the same in the end.” John huffed lightly.
“It’s true”, he muttered. Rook smiled sympathetically.
“Well, I think it’s a very good speech, and it’s good that you get so much joy from your work. I confess, you almost make it sound romantic in a way.” John grinned, seemingly vindicated, and Joseph tsked.
“If you tell him that, it’ll go to his head”, he said with a small smile. John just continued to smile, seemingly content that at least one person had enjoyed his description.
Another round of cards passed before Rook piped up again. “Faith tells me that you’ve been allowing her to study the sciences.” She said as she organised her hand. Joseph smiled at that, nodding.
“Our little sister has a wonderful mind. It would be criminal to deny her any sort of learning that could help her continue to develop and change the world around her.” Faith seemed to blush a little at the praise, shrugging.
“I just find it fascinating, and I’m lucky to have such obliging brothers.” Rook smiled between the two, before Joseph looked up and caught her eye.
“Why do you mention it? Have you ever dabbled in such matters?” Rook couldn’t help a small, if slightly bitter, laugh at that.
“No, there are circles which would view it as ‘improper’, so I’ve never had the chance. I’m almost certain mother would have a fit at the thought.” She shook her head a little, before playing a card. “No, if it’s improper it is out of the question at home. Thus, why I asked. It’s very kind of you to let your sister pursue something that some might look down on.”
Joseph gave a light shrug. “Propriety is… It has its time and place. It helps keep some people comfortable, it helps keep an element of the familiar, and that’s all well and good. When it becomes stifling though, it almost ceases to have a point. Why should I deny my youngest sister knowledge that will bring her joy just because some may look oddly at her for it? Such people are not worth her time anyway.” He looked up meaningfully at Rook, playing a card himself. Rook couldn’t help but frown.
“I meant no offence, sir, I merely meant it’s good of you as a brother. Heavens know that I would not judge my friend for doing something that brought her joy, and I would never look poorly on someone who helped her pursue her interests.
Joseph nodded, smiling a little. “I’m glad that she’s got such an open-minded friend. There are some who would hear such things and decide against a relationship with such an unconventional person, or with such unconventional views.” Rook smiled a little, playing another card and winning the hand.
“As I said earlier today to Mister Jacob, it takes a lot to scare me away. Making my friend happy isn’t exactly something that would drive me away or affect my opinions.” Joseph smiled at that, a warmth in his eyes that made Rook blush and focus again on her cards.
John chimed in, and the feeling that made Rook blush eased as he spoke. “So, Miss Rook, you’ve heard about our dreams and pursuits, tell us about you.”
Rook shrugged, dealing the cards this time. “I’m afraid I’m not nearly as interesting as you all appear to be.”
John raised an eyebrow at her. “Now, I doubt that very much. Faith wouldn’t be friends with you if you weren’t a very interesting and vivacious person indeed.” Rook continued to organise her hand as John looked thoughtfully at his. “Say, what would you do, if you could do anything? You mentioned before that if it was ‘improper’ it was out of the question, so what would you do if such things didn’t matter?”
Rook paused in thought at that, John’s question stopping her in her tracks. In a world where she could do anything? Pursue a career like a gentleman might? Why, she’d be spoiled for choice. The round began, players placing cards as they waited for her answer.
“I think”, she said after some thought, before shaking her head. “No, it’s too ridiculous, you’ll laugh.”
Joseph surprised her by reaching across the table and gently taking her free hand, making her look up to see an intense look in his beautiful blue eyes. “Miss Rook, I can promise you that my siblings and I will never laugh at you over something you truly desire.” Her cheeks heated as he spoke, the intensity of his gaze keeping her eyes locked on his. “There is nothing you could say that would make us shun you or mock you. You have my word.” She blushed furiously as he finished talking, looking around at the others at the table. Each one nodded in agreement with Joseph.
She let out a sigh, nervously looking back at her cards. Realising her hand was still under his, she blushed a deeper shade pink and quickly moved it to nervously reorganise her hand. “I suppose, in such a world, although it’s really very silly. I suppose I might try to be a policeman, or a soldier. Someone who could protect other people.” She continued looking down at her hand, waiting for a burst of laughter from the group. “It’s silly, I know”, she said as she continued to wait.
The silence was broken by Jacob’s low voice. “There’s nothing more admirable than wanting to protect people, Miss Rook.” She looked up at him and was surprised to see a mix of surprise and something akin to respect in his eyes. John nodded in agreement, and Faith seemed to be in thought.
“Do you think that while she’s here, Rook might learn some basic things? I mean, you all know rifling from hunting, and Jacob could teach her some small self-defence things?” Rook couldn’t help the look of shock that flashed across her face. For them to not only not mock her, but for Faith to ask about trying to do small things to help her learn about such a life? She was sure Joseph would dismiss her out of hand.
Instead, Joseph smiled at his little sister. “That’s a wonderful idea Faith, and I know Jacob would be more than willing to have someone aside from us to spar with. John could even help with rifling on weekends when he’s free.” Rook looked between the siblings, all of whom seemed to be settled on this new course of action. “Of course, that is only if Rook would like to.”
Rook looked over at Joseph, her brain rapidly attempting to keep up. “I- I would love to but, well, wouldn’t such things be improper? I mean, if my mother found out I- I have no idea what she’d do.”
Joseph smiled a little. “Remember, in this house, such random rules of propriety don’t matter. No one here will judge you, Rook. There is only one who can judge us, and I’m sure that your knowing how to shoot or fight would matter very little to Him.”
“Plus, your mother never has to know”, Faith chimed in. “We’re not going to tell her, so as long as you don’t you can do as you wish. It’ll be fun, I promise.” Faith smiled encouragingly at her, and Rook couldn’t help but feel a little emboldened. After all, she’d gotten into all sorts of shenanigans with Faith by her side, what was this but another adventure?
Rook smiled a little shyly, nodding. “I would appreciate that.” She looked up, blushing a little as the four Seeds looked at her, all smiling at her resolve.
“It’s settled then”, Joseph said, folding his hand.
“I can’t teach her to spar in her usual clothes, brother”, Jacob said as he too folded. “Her dresses suit her very well, but they don’t suit sparring.” Joseph nodded thoughtfully.
“I have an idea”, John said, throwing his cards into the mix. “While I’m in town tomorrow, I’ll stop by the tailor. I can get him to come by and take some measurements for the day after to make her some clothes to spar in. In the meantime, Jacob can teach her about the minutiae of rifling.”
Joseph nodded. “A good plan John, good thinking.”
Rook blushed a little as she folded her own hands. “I hate to admit it, but I don’t have enough money to buy a whole new outfit. I’ve only really enough to send some letters home while I’m here.”
Joseph waved away her concern. “It’s our idea, so we can pay for it.” She was about to object before he levelled her with a look that brooked no argument. “Think of it as a gift for managing to keep Faith out of too much trouble at school.”
Rook blushed, sighing a little. “If you’re going into town then, Mister John, might I give you my letter to my mother to post? Just to let her know I got here safely.”
John smiled at Rook and nodded. “Just bring it down at breakfast and I will take it with me to town.” Rook smiled, sitting back in her chair.
“Thank you all, truly. It’s nice of you all to offer to do this.” Faith reached across and took Rook’s hands.
“It is our absolute pleasure, my dear friend. Think nothing of it.” Faith sighed, looking at the cards on the table. “Well, I think we should call it a draw here. After all, if you’re learning something new tomorrow Rook, you shall need your rest.”
Rook nodded, standing from her place at the table. The others rose with her, and she bowed her head to them. “Goodnight everyone. I shall see you in the morning.”
They responded in kind, and she slipped out the door to head upstairs to her room. When she, at last, was in her bedclothes, and when she finally laid down, she fell asleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow.
It was raining again. She noticed it before she noticed where she was. Outside, surrounded by the green fields, darkened by the night and the storm overhead. Once more, she rushed for the stable, the door open enough to let light spill out to guide her.
She shut the door behind her as she entered, the wind wailing outside as she finally managed to block it out. She heard the sounds of living creatures moving in the space behind her, gentle shuffling and breathing somewhere further in. She turned, taking the lantern from the entrance and following the sound. Where before, she’d glimpsed a white horse, this time there was nothing in the dark space ahead. She took a tentative step, then another.
She heard movement ahead, but the space remained dark, almost as though her light couldn’t touch it, or maybe as though whatever was there was lurking just outside the light. She called out, her voice too loud in an otherwise empty space. She let out a deep sigh, placing the lantern on a nearby hay bale. It was then she noticed movement on the edge of the shadow.
Standing, the lantern forgotten, she stepped closer, once, twice. Red eyes met hers, a large red shape stepping forward from the darkness.
Rook awoke with her heart hammering in her chest, flaming red eyes seared into her mind as she sat up in her bed.
It was still dark outside, but she felt far too awake from the adrenaline left after her dream to sleep again soon. She sighed, getting up and pulling on a robe for over the top of her nightclothes. Perhaps she could read in the library until she felt tired once more?
She lit a candle, quietly making her way to the library once more. Slipping inside, she began to examine the books. The shadows flickered around her as she moved from shelf to shelf, and a part of her still remembered the shadows in her dream, the way they felt so dark and ominous.
She tried to banish the thoughts, staring at the titles of the books before her, running her fingers across engraved names. Still, her thoughts wandered back to her dreams. What did they mean? First a white horse, now a red? Was there symbolism to it or was it just random? Why were they affecting her now?
She was so consumed with her thoughts that when she stepped back and hit a solid, warm body, she jumped a foot in the air. Rook’s shriek of fear was cut off before it could even begin by a large, rough hand quickly clapping over her mouth.
“Easy pup, it’s just me”, a familiar voice said behind her. Rook took in a deep breath and nodded so that Jacob knew she’d recognised him, letting out a sigh of relief as he took his hand away. She turned to face him, the candle she’d managed to keep a tight grip on casting dancing shadows across his face. Where some might have stepped back once she’d stepped into them, Jacob seemed to not realise their closeness, or maybe not care, staying standing before her.
She allowed her eyes to wander over him, his red hair messy from bed, and his beard not yet trimmed and shaved for the day ahead. He was in his bedclothes, white shirt half open and revealing a toned, muscled chest, with smatterings of red hair across it. She couldn’t help but blush as she managed to look back up at him, his brown eyes still watching her.
“Sorry for startling you there, Miss Rook. I heard a noise and decided to come check it out. When I saw you, I figured it best to make sure you were alright.” He looked her over, seemingly checking to make sure she was, indeed, alright.
Rook smiled nervously up at him, her cheeks a little heated both from embarrassment at her reaction and from how close he was to her. “It’s okay, although we really have to stop meeting like this, Mister Jacob.” He chuckled at that, reaching up to scratch his beard.
“I suppose it is becoming something of a habit, isn’t it?” He smiled at her, and her cheeks heated again as a thought about how warm he might be made its way through her mind. Now was not the time to imagine scenes from the romance novel she was secretly making her way through, not when her best friend’s brother was standing so close to her.
“I hope I didn’t wake you?” She looked over him, the dark bags that seemed to be under his eyes. He let out a small sigh.
“You didn’t, Miss Rook. The past likes to haunt me in my sleep sometimes, so I often find myself waking and doing other things instead.” Rook frowned, looking over him in concern.
“Do you wish to talk about them?” Jacob smiled, although there was a tired, perhaps even sad tinge to it.
“Even if I wished to, I would not burden you with such things, Miss Rook. Such things are too ugly for such a fair person.” Rook couldn’t help but blush at that, looking down at her feet. “What about you though, Miss Rook? What has kept you from your sleep?”
Rook couldn’t help but sigh. “Nonsensical dreams that seem scary at first, but never make any sense as to why on reflection.” She shook her head. “I’m just being daft.” She sighed lightly, still looking down. She was surprised then, when Jacob reached under her chin, tilting it up so that he was looking into her eyes.
“Never apologise for your fears, Miss Rook. It’s only once you acknowledge them that you can defeat them. And I have no doubt that nothing could stand against you if you wished it so.” She couldn’t help but blush at the intensity of his words, his eyes staring into hers.
They stood like that for a moment, before Jacob seemingly remembered the rest of the world and let his hand fall. “Sorry about that, I suppose the midnight hours make me wordier, like my brothers.”
Rook smiled a little, shaking her head. “Don’t apologise, I appreciate the sentiment.” She tilted her head as she looked up at him, a thought seeming to occur to her. “You called me ‘pup’.”
He looked a little surprised at the sudden change in topic, before smiling somewhat sheepishly. “Don’t know where that came from. I suppose it’s because you’re young, but you have strength to you. Like a wolf pup. There’s a fierceness to you that I can’t wait to see.” She blushed a little at the explanation, looking down at her feet. “I’ll stop though, I’d hate to disrespect you or make you uncomfortable.”
Rook looked up, frowning. “No, don’t stop.” At the curious look on his face, she blushed and looked down again. “I like it. It… it makes sense, and it’s not meant disrespectfully. It’s… nice.”
He grinned, taking a step closer, his hand reaching down to make her look up at him again. There was a heat in his eyes that she didn’t quite understand as he looked at her, and she couldn’t help but blush under his scrutiny.
“Alright then pup”, he said with a smirk, and her stomach did a flip in response. “I’ll keep it just between us. You should head to bed though, you’ll need your strength for tomorrow.” She nodded, still blushing, as he stepped back and let her go.
She paused as she reached the library doors, looking back at him. He smiled in response, still watching her. “Don’t worry about the dreams. They’ll leave you alone for tonight.” She nodded, taking one last look at him before heading back to her room.
When she fell asleep again, it was dreamless.

Priority || Drabble
Summary: Miston pours out all his heartache in a letter, in the hope that Legolas will understand how he feels. Wordcount: 1582 Tagging: @prxnceling, @antleredthrone
My dear Legolas, I haven’t truly written a letter in a long time, but I feel it’s the only way I can finally express my feelings and be smart about it. Because I do want to be smart about it. I don’t want more arguments, more fights, more discussions about who’s point of view here is the right one. I hope you and I both know neither of our views is better than the other. But, I feel if I don’t address and lay out how I experienced these events without you trying to explain your side that I might just implode, or worse.
And I honestly don’t want that.
Let me start this off by saying that I love you. Because I do. Deeply, intensely. After all we’ve been through I doubt that will ever change. I have never taken of my wedding band when we were apart. In fact, it was the one thing calling me to Valinor when I thought I had lost all hope in the ruins of the great elven kingdoms of Middle Earth. And I miss you. I miss your warmth, your love, the way you would make me feel safe and secure and like the world couldn’t harm me as long as I got to retreat in your embrace. I miss our love, and have been missing it ever since the day we had the biggest argument in our entire time together.
But that doesn’t mean your actions didn’t hurt me, as mine did yours. I take responsibility for everything I’ve put you through, because I know fully well that I haven’t been fair to you either.
So here in this letter, I will lay it all out from my side. I’ll try to be reasonable, but I make no promises that this will be entirely without anger or distress.
I apologize in advance for any of that.
I know fully well that the Fellowship was necessary. And knowing the grief the inevitability of mortal friends brings, my heart breaks all as much for you. I know now better than ever what it’s like to lose friends permanently, and I think I would’ve preferred going my entire life without it. However, losing them also made me understand your grief better when I remember what you went through even before the war of the Ring. I wonder what it would’ve been like had you taken me along on the journey.
We can argue practicality and protocol on that all we want and won’t get an inch further than we did back then, but you knew fully well that I would never grovel at the feet of another just to be deigned good enough to be in the presence of my husband.
And as much as I hate to admit it, you broke my heart more with every word we had in that argument.
Not only did you seem to expect from me to beg for the permission of others to join this Companionship, you then decided that your destiny was no longer intertwined with mine and that the faith of the world was more important.
Maybe it was. It very well could have been. What’s one life compared to saving the world, after all?
But to me you could have just as easily have said that I had no value as a companion, no value as your husband, and that you’d rather be rid of me as a liability all together. I’m sure my heart would’ve taken it that way regardless.
I stand by some of my words on that day. Not all of them, but I told you that I hated Imladris before and that this would only make my dismay for the place worse, I meant it.
And it’s true.
Between my own personal issues with status and family that made me leave town before, I now had the added memory of feeling abandoned on the brink of war. Hypocritical of me, perhaps, to condemn you for a similar action of leaving; I’m sure Nethel would happily and venomously remind me that I bailed on my town as much as you did.
I’m also sure she wouldn’t care that I didn’t do so in trying times that were soon to turn much worse, but honestly I think she would have a point. Regardless, that feeling of abandonment was only fueled by every time I turned to try and find you on the battlefield- at my side. I don’t think anything has ever hurt me so bad as the expectation of you having my back and you just not being there. The time before the war was spend worrying in sleepless nights about what was yet to come, and not having you there to comfort me and tell me everything was going to be okay just worsened my mood every night.
I’ll be honest, I stopped sleeping in your chambers all together. Staying there just made me nauseous with grief and desperate longing.
After the war ended, it wasn’t much better. The war itself was gruesome, Legolas. Our enemy used the forest against us; ripping trees out of the ground roots and all, only to set them ablaze and use them as dangerous projectiles. We’ve lost many good people and friends that day, and I can still hardly bring myself to think about them because I feel like I’ve failed them all.
It was like that patrol I once came back from, where you needed to keep me together after all the loss.
But much, much worse.
Thranduil, Eru bless his soul, somehow found time between endless repairs and total exhaustion to keep me from completely losing my mind and potentially even fading from existence all together. My home was in shambles, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt more horrible for him. He realized early on that this has been the only war situation I’ve ever experienced firsthand.
At the same time, I realized that for it was just another addition to a long list of sorrow and heartbreak.
And then you came back, with both of us so changed by events and… I’m not even trying to be mean, witty, sarcastic or inconsiderate. I truly don’t know what you wanted or needed from me when you came home. My anger at the argument and grief at the war had molded me into this numb shell. Truth be told, I don’t think I’ve felt a single emotion ever since the day you came home to the day you set sail.
Did you feel it too? The unspoken bond we had before, where we never needed to express ourselves and yet the other understood? We lost it, that’s for sure. I wonder if our dependence on it is the reason why we struggled to voice our hurt and needs so bad.
I hope you don’t see our most recent argument as some kind of proof that I never cared for Thranduil. His decision not to sail hurt me deeply, for he’s the only reason I’m actually able to come here. Both in a physical sense as he offered me a boat when I told him I wanted to come here, but also because I’m sure I would’ve faded from my grief without him.
And the only reason I got upset in that argument is because I felt again like you were just pushing me away. What could’ve been a deep and good talk about what Thranduil means to both of us just turned into… That.
When I said I want to share in all your emotions, I mean your grief, too. But it feels like that’s something you’re not willing to share. You don’t have to be so strong and shut off about the negative things you feel.
I’ll try not to be about mine, in return.
Soo, now we’re here in Valinor. The nights are warm and cozy, the days long, peaceful and sunny. We have all the time in the world to spare, now, and I’ve been thinking about what I would have wanted from you when you returned from the Fellowship.
I know it’s not realistic to ask you to be the one you were before this war. None of us can be. So that it’s not what I’m asking.
I will be honest, however.
Legolas, I am so scared of being abandoned again, that my heart starts pounding and my stomach turns just thinking about it. I guess what I want to ask of you is, now that we’re here, in Valinor… with no regal or rogue expectations, with no royal obligations, with no people to defend from impeding danger or anything of the sort….
Can you please try to make me feel like a priority to you, again?
 I love you.
 Miston
And as he signed the letter, Miston let out a long sigh of relief. The paper was stained with the tears that had emerged as he had tried his best to bare his soul in the words, and he quietly rolled it up and tied it all together with a ribbon.
He left it on the pillow of his lover; together with a small note stating that he would be in the gardens of Irmo, that Legolas was free to join him or that he would return an hour before dinner if Legolas decided not to.
He quietly shut the door of their home behind him and took a deep breath before making his way to Irmo’s gardens.

Theia bringing a kitten home from Crestwood. Josie's reaction. I'm here for the sappy shit
Writer’s note: okay so I went a little more slow burn than sappy with this because I thought about the chronology of it, so I’m sorry if it’s not as much of a jelly-filled doughnut as I usually write (lol). But, I still think it’s pretty sweet!
Crestwood happens whilst Theia andJosephine are still flirting with each other, but there’s been no action fromeither of them and for as much as they both feel intrigued, everyone elsebelieves it to be an affinity between two clever women.
So, the following ensues:
The returning grouping from Crestwood looked as if they hadtrudged through too much mud and dirt to feel any more willingness to travelfor the rest of the month. Horses’ legs were drenched up to their elbow joints, carriage wheels aching and some half-broken, hastily repaired on the road. TheTroops that had accompanied the Inquisitor’s contingent were cursing undertheir breath, lamenting that it would take months for the stains in theiruniforms to be washed out.
So, seeing the Inquisitor arrive with a careful andtender-hearted grin on her face, the Advisors wondered what semblance of moraleshe had managed to hold onto during the journey.
Swiftly dismounting from her ride, the Inquisitor promptlydug into one of her large saddlebags. She looked as though she was reaching forsomething fragile, but was too excited to be slow. Seeker Cassandra had alreadydismounted her ride and made her way around Theia’s horse in order to see ifher precious cargo had survived. Two women, hardened and revered for theirpower and stature, unabashedly attentive to whatever it was the Inquisitor wasstowing in her bag.
“Is it an artifact of some sort?” Leliana leaned into herfriend, the Ambassador, who was also eyeing the harmless sight with intrigue.
“Would she carry it on herself if it was that important?”
The two women looked at each other, both remembering thatone incident where Theia tossed – or tried to, anyway – the axe she hadrecovered from her “duel” with the Avaar prince to Iron Bull. She went with itinstead of letting go, and fell rather clumsily. Ego slightly bruised, Theiahad resolved to levitate it into the Bull’s hands, much to his dismay for suchpomp.
Now both slightly concerned for the Inquisitor’s ego oncemore, they returned their keen gaze down to the courtyard. The Inquisitor washolding something close to her chest, as if it were an infant, but too small. The Seeker was smiling with disbelief, marveling at how much the Theia hadprioritized this after all they had endured in Crestview.
Down on the ground, it was a teasing match between Cassandraand Theia.
“Come on, Seeker, she came to me. This fortress is toolonely between the people and the horses.”
“Cullen will be livid, his request for five Mabari dogs wasdenied by Sister Leliana.”
“Yes, well, five dogs versus one barn cat are two differentordeals.” Theia was amused to feel like it was Leliana managing all of theInquisition’s leaders as if they were children wanting pets of their own.
“Fair enough, though, I will be curious to see how it bondsto you whilst you travel across all of Thedas more often than not.”
“Cats are different. They do not hunger for the same closecontact as dogs do. They are independent, and self-sufficient, like us.”
“Be sure to be as persuasive when you bring it to the WarCouncil,” The Seeker patted Theia on the shoulder, seeing herself off towherever she needed to be. Cassandra always seemed to be needed, andintuitively knew it. Theia felt as if she just stumbled into situations whereher power and role were implicated as soon as she appeared.
Making her way up the stairs towards the Hall, she finallycame to see both Leliana and Josephine standing observantly at the top of thestairwell. Holding the tiny, and slightly mal-nutritioned kitten, she couldn’thelp but feel like she was about to be reprimanded and sent to her room withoutsupper. The kitten had been found all alone without a soul to care for it,muddied and dirty. Surely it could have fallen and drowned into a puddle if itwanted to. But, the Inquisitor, coming across it during a ride with her allies, had softened herself enough to make one less infamous rescue.
Approaching two of her three advisors, she adjusted the wayshe was holding the small little creature, hand underneath its chest in orderto support its body.
“Inquisitor, I see you have made more than one gesture ofheroism in your travels,” Leliana greeted, holding her hands characteristicallybehind her back.
“Indeed, though, I think this little one has no money orweapons to yield the Inquisition as thanks,” Theia warmly replied, lightlypetting the back of the kitten’s tabby-colored head. The little thing gave asoft mew, making the Inquisitor’s heart ache. “She will be my personal charge,so there will be no concerns as to where she will belong or if she will causetrouble.”
“Inquisitor, you are hardly a sedentary individual. Perhapsit would be best to give her to one of the kitchen or barn staff, so that shemay better preoccupy herself?” Leliana was the one who had a vested interest inthe welfare of animals. Her ravens, after all, were just as much her people asher human staff was.
Josephine observed the conversation quietly, a rare thingwhen it came to the Ambassador’s proclivity for mediating discussions.
“When she is recovered enough I will let her roam as shepleases, but I wish to oversee her care myself. A small joy for myself,” Theiaheld the kitten closer to her chin as she tried to appeal to Leliana’scompassion. It was working, though begrudgingly.
“Alright, but do not tell the Commander. I still receivenotes on reports about my refusal to take on a legion of Mabari.”
“Deal.”
Leliana turned and made her way back into the hall, wearinga cordial facial expression as she did so. That left the Ambassador andInquisitor, both standing as if they felt obligated to continue a conversation, but it had not started in the first place.
“Lady Ambassador,” Theia spoke first, “It is good to seeyou. Are you not fond of cats?”
Josephine smiled politely, shaking her head. “Of course Iam, Your Worship. My Mother keeps no less than seven Antivan rough-coats in herwing of our home. I am merely…surprised,” her voice chimed.
“Surprised?”
“Yes. I did not think such a…preoccupied person, such asyourself, would be inclined to such endearments.”
The two women started to walk slowly back into the hall, andwhen they reached the entryway they had come to a stop.
“The Circle was restrictive, but we had certain feral catswho would come visit the kitchens for scraps. We were very kind to them inreturn for some companionship whilst the fed on bones and drippings,” Theiareferred to her time in the Circle rarely, and even less-so to divulge intimatememories. People assumed it was the violence, or her political disagreementwith Circles. However, for Theia, it was a lot more complicated.
“I see. Well, I do hope she provides solace to you in thecoming days,” Josephine’s voice was diplomatically opaque, though, her curiousface keyed into a different motivation.
“I hope so as well, but who knows, she may bond to someoneelse in my absence. Who am I to stop her?” Theia played, smirking out thecorner of her mouth as she scratched behind the kitten’s ear with her finger.
“Surely, you saving her life will inspire some loyalty?”Josephine’s chin tilted, now slightly surprised at the casual nature of Theia’saffection.
“Yes, but one should not spend their lives indebted to thebasic decency of others as if it were exceptional.”
Theia’s reassured and most political response caughtJosephine’s eye. There was a confidence and conviction below the surface ofTheia’s demonstrated self-consciousness and kindness. She had been letting itshow more and more as time passed and she filled into her leadership, but, itseemed as though when Theia would finally let that side of herself show, something would make her slip-up.
“Well, since you feel so ardently about it,” Josephine wasgoing to say something more exact and precise, but her mind trailed off as sherealized she hadn’t really formulated an opinion in advance. It was off thecuff now.
“I most certainly do, but that hardly is something to beafraid of,” Theia chuckled. “I shall retire to my quarters for a moment. If youneed anything of me, Ambassador, as I suspect you do, feel free to send word.”
As the Inquisitor nodded and sought out the door to herbedchambers, the Lady Ambassador watched her go. There were increasingly moreins and outs to their leader than she had originally suspected, and they werecontinuing to catch her off-guard.
“Do take care, Inquisitor,” she wished after her, though shefelt it arbitrary. Turning away, she was resigned to her status of being alonein that moment. Until, echoing back from the halfway point of the hall, sheheard the voice she had been conversing with.
“And you, My Lady Ambassador!”
Butterflies plumed in Josephine’s gut as she kept hershoulders turned away from the Inquisitor’s direction. Putting the tips of herfingers to her lips, she stepped out the entryway more so as to continue eyeingthe unpacking efforts. Though, in her head, she was paying attention toanything but that.
My Lady Ambassador.

Spirit Keeping FAQ
This post is a compilation of questions that I have heard most often since I opened up my shop in 2015.  I wanted to cover my bases with it, and get the basic information out there.  There is so much to learn, so if I missed anything, please let me know!
WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER SPIRIT KEEPING?
Well, there are many reasons that people keep spirits.  Some do it for companionship, others for protection, and yet more for spiritual uplifting and learning.  Whatever the reason, it's something that feels right for you.  If you feel like you are ready to take on the responsibility and work involved, go for it!  If you don't, then you probably aren't ready on some level for it.  However, do consider your reasons before you start!  Sure, it would be an absolutely awesome thing to have friends that can do what your physical friends cannot.
However, spirit keeping is a LIFE-LONG COMMITMENT.  It's not something that you can shrug off after it's not 'cool' anymore, and it is not a fad. That said, it is a very rewarding experience.  You gain a lot of knowledge from spirit-keeping, and often, you grow yourself and learn a lot of insight on others' perspectives and views of the world.  Yes, you have an obligation to work with these spirits and coexist with them, but when it comes down to it, there is mutual benefit involved!  It's also a lot of fun, and I can't even think of how difficult things were for me before I started to take in companions.  The community is ever-growing, and although a fringe practice, I have met many of my best friends in the spirit keeping community.  You'll be surprised at how much taking in a companion can change your life!
BEFORE I START, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
There's not very much preparation to be done, really.  This is a practice where you can read every book there is, but what you've read simply doesn't work when you're confronted with the spirit itself.  However, there are a few things you can do to prepare yourself.  I definitely suggest learning how to meditate or do a little energy work to learn how to connect with that higher, astral self.  I would also suggest getting together some of the offerings or getting at least a system down for whatever spirit you're bringing in.  What preparations would you do?  You would get your living space as warm and welcoming as possible!  You also need to think of how long this spirit family will be with you - the rest of your life is a long time!  Make sure you think about that, because it can be a bit overwhelming at first!  Your living area will also be theirs while they are in this realm, so definitely try to think of ways to welcome them and coexist with them. Also, it may be a good idea to learn some cleansing techniques for your space and set up some warding and protection before they arrive so that you can get them familiar with your warding. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW AND CONSIDER?
As stated several times, this is a LIFE-LONG COMMITMENT.  That being said, when you're looking at companions, make sure you do your research.  Look at the race descriptions provided by conjurers, use google and Wikipedia, and when all else fails, ASK THE CONJURER!  They will have insight that they don't always post on the race description, especially if it's an exclusive race.  This goes for everything regarding your new family member - ask the questions, see their powers and capabilities, determine if you would task them or not (and if so, how).  A reputable conjurer should be able to give you solid advice on the spirit and how they can benefit you, while also figuring out who will actually be helpful for you or a great start.  Also, you need to consider the conjurer themselves - your conjurer is providing a service of making sure your companion is safe to work with, and if you're not sure what to think, talk to customers who have taken home companions from them and ask around for genuine experiences with the conjurer or the spirits from that conjurer.  Reviews on a third party location or talking to other practitioners can also be very telling! Definitely don't make fast decisions when it comes to your first, though. It is something that you need to take your time with.
CAN A COMPANION ACTUALLY HELP ME WITH MY HEALTH PROBLEMS?
Yes. Somewhat. They are no replacement for medical aid, and you should not stop the treatments you are receiving when you take a spirit into your home. They aren't necessarily able to completely cure mundane illnesses, but they can ease the pain or help you calm yourself energetically and mentally. Always take their capabilities and how they would react with your condition into account, because there are sometimes bad combinations of energy that can negatively affect you and how you live.
I always suggest bringing up any conditions with your conjurer, because they may have a better recommendation of what spirits would be better fits based on different conditions (fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, etc.) and what would probably not work too well with you. Always take their opinions into account in these cases because they do have a deeper understanding of the races they work with than you do. True, this is part of doing research, but it is a very important part.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT COMPANION TO TAKE HOME?
There is no clear way to really know, honestly. You can do all the research in the world and still take home the wrong companion. However, if it doesn't feel right, chances are that it isn't. You have to trust yourself and your conjurer, honestly. Take everything into account carefully when making your decisions. Also, if this is your first time taking in a companion, make sure you read EVERYTHING about their policies, shipping, bindings, and ask questions so that you can understand everything about it. Any reputable conjurer should happily answer questions with professionalism. Also, when considering which companion to bring home, read everything you can. If you still can't determine the best way to go, explain your situation to the conjurer you're interested in! They may suggest a reverse adoption, which is where instead of you picking a spirit, a spirit picks you.
HELP!  I THINK A SPIRIT IS CALLING ME!  HOW DO I KNOW FOR SURE?
There are many different types of callings, so pinning down exactly how it feels is difficult.  Look at the timing of what you believe to be a calling.  From experience, I can say that not being able to get thoughts of a spirit from your mind, seeing hints of that spirit (specific animals or symbols of that spirit), shadow play, head buzzing, specific music (shufflemancy), winking phone screens, and many other signs can all be callings.  Anything that constantly returns your attention to that spirit can definitely be a calling, and if they are trying hard enough, you won't be able to stop thinking about them.  Last but not least, it will feel right to bring them home, and once they arrive home with you, it will feel wrong to not have them in your life.  You have to trust your feelings and instincts in most cases, and if the timing isn't right (not enough money, have to practice secretly, etc.), perhaps it's something that you can revisit later.
I MISSED OUT ON A SPIRIT I FELT CALLED TO.  CAN I TRUST MY INSTINCTS FOR IF I'M ACTUALLY BEING CALLED?
Oh yes, definitely.  Spirits will often send out several different calls to different people for a better chance of finding a home, while others don't really send out callings but their energy compliments yours so well that reaching out proves to you that your energy will intertwine pleasantly.  There are also cases where you may not be called to a certain spirit, but another member of that race is calling you through the spirit that was brought to your attention previously.  If you've missed out on a spirit, you can always ask the conjurer if they are able to bring forth another spirit of that race, because more often than not, it will be the spirit that you were originally feeling the calling from.
It's also important to realize that things do happen for a reason.  If you missed a companion, perhaps you were fated to not meet them, but another in their place.  Your attention was drawn to that particular race or spirit for a reason, after all.  Perhaps it is a message that there is someone for you in that shop, realm, or race that wants to come forth and help.  Don't despair for missing one potential companion, for they were meant to be with someone else.
WHY ARE SPIRIT COMPANION SHOPS SO EXPENSIVE?  YOU DON'T OWN THAT ENTITY, AND THE VESSEL CAN'T BE THAT EXPENSIVE, SO WHAT AM I ACTUALLY PAYING FOR?
We don't charge for the entity itself, but for the work we do.  The first step of conjuring is to open the portal and pull the spirit / entity forward, then we have to make sure the companion is safe to work with.  This is the most important part of being a conjurer - making sure all parties (spirit, keeper, and conjurer) are safe.  We vet the spirits, spending the time necessary with them to learn what we can before we pass them on to the keeper where the bond is formed.  Some spirits are more work to pull through and take more energy (and thus, more time) to work with, which is why prices are different.  Others may need a more complex binding to make sure that things are even on all sides and no one has more power than the other.
In short, you're not buying the spirit, but the work that the conjurer has put into the binding.
I DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE THE MONEY FOR A COMPANION FROM A SHOP.  IS THERE A WAY TO GET AROUND THIS OR A WAY FOR ME TO CONJURE MY OWN COMPANION?
Most shops are actually very willing to work with others where possible!  Personally speaking, I have accepted services from others as payment, or done some free services when it came down to an emergency situation.  However, you need to take a certain approach when you're talking to conjurers (or any practitioners, really) about a free service, because it is not an obligation for anyone to do any work for you, and you should be grateful should you receive the help.  Conjuring can be, quite frankly, a thankless job and there are always people who feel entitled.  But I digress, if you're talking to a conjurer about the possibility of a free service, make sure you stay polite and explain the situation fully as to why you can't manage to financially afford the service you're asking for!
As for conjuring on your own, I advise against it.  No, it's not to make more money (as others would accuse, I know from experience) off of you, but to make sure you are safe.  If you have not conjured before and don't have any companions, it is very hard to be certain that you can vet a spirit, especially when considering whether or not your senses will be able to pick up on said spirit that you've brought through.  When you pay a conjurer or receive a service from one, you are paying for the safety net it provides you, and the knowledge that, should trouble arise, there is someone experienced that can handle it and remove whatever is causing the problems.  Also, if you want to look into conjuring, it is best to speak with a conjurer and see if they're open to teaching their method because trying to learn alone is far more dangerous of an option.
SHOULD I DO A VESSEL OR DIRECT BINDING?  IS ONE BETTER THAN THE OTHER?
Both sides have their pros and cons, and truthfully, it's all a matter of preference.  I personally use individual vessels, master vessels, and direct bindings with certain spirits that help me and protect me on a day-to-day basis. Vessel bindings are the energy link to your companion.  They offer the chance of having an easier time picking up on the energy, because there is a way to channel that energy by using direct contact with the vessel and you can learn how it feels to have their energy and not have it.  However, there are often times that a vessel goes missing, which can be a bit stressful and I've seen many newer keepers worry that the spirit is mad at them for misplacing it.  Not to mention, others in your home may find the vessels to be cool trinkets or mess with them.
Direct bindings are a direct link from your energy to that of the spirit.  It makes it so that your companion's energy bridge is ever-present, and you won't have to handle carrying around the many vessels of your spirit companions.  However, though you won't have the issues of the vessel, you may find it harder to work with spirits one on one or lock onto a particular energy due to the circumstances of that link being ever-present.  It's also sometimes more overwhelming if you're energy-sensitive, especially if you take on several companions at a time.
I do want to touch on master vessels as well, which is the nicer alternative to the vessel bindings without having to wear 20 vessels.  Essentially, you can take all of the energy connections and duplicate (or transfer) them to one central piece where you can attach all of your spirits for a single vessel that you can use to contact your entire keep at once when you're out and about.
I HAVE A COMPANION!  HOW DO I BOND WITH THEM?
There are a lot of things you can do!  Whether your senses have picked up on them or not, take some time to invite them to join you on your conquests - be it watching TV, going to work, taking a walk, etc.  You can also take time to give offerings as a good bonding time, or meditation.  Most importantly, TALK TO THEM.  Even if you can't hear or interpret the responses, tell them about your day, what bothers you, how you feel, what you ate - anything you can think of to say.  They are your friends, your companions, and you definitely want to treat them as such and become closer.  Do what you would do with your physical friends!  In the end, it will pay off.
HOW DO I LEARN TO SEE MY COMPANION?
I wouldn't use the word 'see'.  Your astral senses are very different from your physical ones, and it's very rare to see the full picture all at once.  I personally find myself seeing one feature at a time - hair, eyes, skin tone, colors, etc. - and then piecing them together later when fed other information. It's almost like a puzzle, really. Past that point, their manifestations will be easier to sense and your mind's eye will fill in the blanks. It takes a lot of practice and work, honestly, but is well worth it when you get the results you're looking for. Please keep in mind that spirits won't always manifest and fully developed senses won't always pick up on them if they aren't actively manifesting.
HOW CAN I COMMUNICATE WITH MY COMPANION IF I CAN'T SEE THEM?
I am a big advocate of mediums! Tarot, pendulum, and shufflemancy are three very popular methods that are very unique in practice.  I do want to make sure, though, that you are being careful about doing any form of medium work and you set up protection so that you know for sure that you are speaking to the spirit you have called as opposed to a trickster or more malignant entity. You can read more about safety here.
Tarot is extremely popular, and many people can use a phone app instead of a physical deck if they have to be secretive.  This method tests your ability to interpret your cards and mix meanings together for messages from your family.  If you're intuitive with your cards, it makes for a really fun reading sometimes, and definitely keeps you in practice with your deck!  Of course, it can also be a little more confusing if you aren't so intuitive with your deck, but you will be able to learn how to interpret your cards as you continue on.
Pendulum is definitely one that gets used often too, as it's used easily with yes/no questions and even pendulum boards with letters (though you want to be more careful with these because the letters can be harder to pin down and interpret as well).  As you get more used to the pendulum, it isn't quite as awkward.  Especially with pendulum work, though, make sure you cleanse after each session and spirit called, and also take a break so that you are at your peak health and you aren't having issues later on down the road, spiritually or physically.
Shufflemancy is, by far, my personal favorite way to get an introduction from a spirit.  The jist of it is, you ask them a question, then put your shufflemancy-dedicated playlist on shuffle and learn the answers with each song that comes through.  You can sometimes use two and three songs to confirm the message.  It's a very fun way to get in contact with your spirits, and I simply love hearing what song comes next when I ask a question.
I THINK MY VESSEL IS EMPTY!  THERE'S NO SIGN OF MY COMPANION ANYWHERE!
Have patience!  Especially if you're new to spirit work, it's very hard to pick up on manifestations or signs that they're actually around.  A shy spirit can be hard to work with as well.  Give it a solid two months before you actually claim that the vessel is empty, especially if you're talking to anyone other than that conjurer.  And always contact the conjurer first - let them know your concerns, and ask if there's anything you can do to speed the bonding process along with the spirit in question.  Every spirit is different, after all.
SOMEONE TOLD ME MY VESSEL WAS EMPTY!
Okay, let me stop you there.  A lot of conjurers place protections on their bindings to prevent others from seeing or messing with the bindings.  Personally speaking, I cloak the bindings so that only the keeper and spirit can actually feel the binding out, but adjustments can't be made unless I do it to protect both the keeper and the spirit's best interests.  Not to mention, oftentimes as soon as someone pokes into the binding or vessel to see the binding itself or the spirit, the binding will break and the spirit will return to the conjurer to prevent tampering.  If you feel like your vessel is empty or someone tells you it is, TALK TO THE ORIGINAL CONJURER.  Otherwise, you'll be pulled into a bunch of drama and lose a companion for it.  Do empty vessels get sent out?  Yes.  Yes, they do.  But it's not a common occurrence, and most times, it's an accident.
SOMEONE LOOKED AT MY BINDING AND SAID SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH IT!  HOW DO I FIX IT?
There are certain bindings that will cause trouble.  Don't depend on others to tell you something is wrong, though, because spirits will disguise themselves from others that aren't you as a defense mechanism.  If someone says something about your binding being too tight or badly done, go back to the original conjurer and raise your concerns with them.  People tampering with your bindings can either have the spirit default back to the original conjurer or cause a lot of trouble for the spirit itself and actually make the binding uncomfortable.  Not to mention, the binding itself is disguised and will appear differently to others outside of your relationship.  Use your own sense about whether or not there is truly a problem, and if you feel like there is one (extremely difficult to bond with your spirits or sense them, not feeling any energy from the link, etc.), consult the conjurer to see what's going on. You can read more about this here. HOW DO OFFERINGS WORK?
Offerings are a form of bonding!  You give your spirits gifts, essentially, of what they like.  This can range from snacks and food to hair, blood, ribbons, cloth, gemstones, and any number of small presents you feel they would enjoy.  These should be stored separately from your own items, and I always suggest an offering jar if you make frequent offerings or at least labeling what belongs to who when you set up an altar or store the items.  I personally like to take out all of the offerings when I give a new one so that they can take the energy from and survey everything all at once.
CAN I EAT A FOOD OFFERING INSTEAD OF WASTING IT?
Food offerings are primarily so they can take the energy from the food, rather than consuming the food itself.  Always check with your companion first, but there's a good chance that they'll be okay with you leaving the food out for a set time (my rule of thumb is an hour) and then eating it or discarding it for outside animals.  I have also, in the past, burned offerings in a fire pit (but that's mostly for deities and immortals, as personal preference).
I HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO WORK WITH MY COMPANIONS LATELY!  DO THEY HATE ME?
No, not at all! Spirits travel the realms, so they go between their realm and ours. They understand that things come up and your physical life is very important too! So long as you make the effort to reconnect when things are a bit better for you, they won't hesitate to bond with you like they did before. Time passes differently in other worlds, so it may even be that they didn't feel the time without you like you felt. Always talk to them, and in my case, I find that apologizing sincerely is acceptable and we move on from there. We're not perfect, after all.
I LOST MY VESSEL!  WHAT DO I DO?
Deep breath! Losing your vessel is a common problem, whether it's your spirit trying to mess with you or convey a message (wanting a new vessel, not wanting to bond that day, etc), or a bit of careless placement, it's easily remedied. Go to the conjurer and ask them what the process is for transmuting the binding to a new vessel.  A lot of times, conjurers will either do it themselves or teach you an easy way to do it.  It's an easy problem to fix and you don't need to feel embarrassed!
MY VESSEL BROKE!  IS MY SPIRIT OKAY?
Yes! Your spirit is not physically tied to or trapped within the vessel. The vessel houses an energy bridge for safe and easy passage to and from this realm. They can still use the bridge this vessel has, or you can (again) talk to the original conjurer about transmuting them to a new vessel for aesthetics and ease.
I AM A CLOSETED WITCH AND CAN'T DO OFFERINGS OR RITUALS VERY OFTEN.  IS THIS OKAY?
Yes, it's perfectly alright!  I used to have to be very careful about my practice (and to a degree I still do), and there are so many tips and tricks to being a subtle spirit keeper. I will make a separate post about this in particular, as there's so much information on subtle witching and subtle keeping, but spirits generally understand that there are powers and presences that govern our actions and lifestyles. Explain this to them when you welcome them home and when you find the time, do what you'd like to do!
I REALLY WANT SOMEONE TO TALK TO, BUT I DON'T WANT TO PUT THIS OUT THERE IN MY HOMETOWN OR FAMILY... There are a lot of online communities, including MetaSpirit, the Chaos in Pandora's Box Spirit Keeping Forum, FaceBook Groups (many shops host these groups), and a plethora of others that I'm not a member of!  There are also Skype and Discord chats available to those seeking spirit keeper friends and advice!  Definitely check out these online avenues if you want to share your stories and hear about others' experiences too!

Extra Typology Vol #3 - Part 9, A: The Leisurely Style (Basics)
This would be the quintessential “Type B” individual - sure, they’ll fulfill their obligations & put in whatever share of work is needed to have a solid living, but once that is done, they feel that they have the right to their personal pursuit of hapiness & see that as the area of life where the “worthwhile” stuff happens - That this is where life is & that the other part is the drudgery you do for the sake of your life.
They feel that they have a right to their “me time” and while they might fill it with anything from plain chillaxing to hobbies to creative pursuits, it’s important to them that they are guranteed this opportunity, and though  they are generally easygoing, they will vigorously defend their right to do their own thing & have their time & space.
This seems to be vaguely 9w8, the Phlegmatic Temperament or the Ne-Si axis.
(Funnily enough I never thought of this as any sort of distinct trait, perhaps because it’s the most common one in my makeup - I always just assumed this is simply “everyone to some degre/default/common sense/normal people” which, in hindsight, seems to hold the implicit assumption that type A people are “weird” Sorry.  ^^° Well, at least I am now less stupid than I was before reading this book so yay for this book. Guess this just shows how we’re all vulnerable to & should be on the lookout for that type of thinking, as we’re all ordinary or unusual in some ways.)
The Six Domains
Self
The first priority for the Leisurely style is the inviolable independence of the self - The implicit idea that they have the intrinsic right to be who they are, to feel good, and to pursue their own pleasures and concepts in their own way - and that no person or institution has any business “meddling” or taking those rights away from then - They can be said to have a more fluent connection to the basic, default value of human existence.
If a Conscientious person will define themselves & others through their work, Leisurely people are more likely to see their indentity as related to their hobbies and, as a corollary, will tend to ask others “What are you into?” instead and believe in their inalienable right to use their personal time however they choose.
Unlike some of the more emotional “scattered” types they can operate quite well within systems such as the family, the workplace, the community... indeed those outer complexes are necessary to fulfill their needs, but they do not identify with or feel a need to cater to any outer authorities and generally don’t have a pronounced superego or any of the associated heavy self-critical burdens. - They’re aware of their obligations, but after meeting them - including those to their family - the Leisurely person will turn to what they see as “the things that really matter”: The pursuit of their private pleasure in life, be it sports, art, contemplating nature or watching TV with a beer in hand.
Unlike, say, Self-Confident types who feel that they are inherently special, better and closer to the center of the universe than most others, Leisurely people perceive that, along with everybody else, they are small cogs in the cosmic wheel - and that’s okay with them. Leisurely folks are usually comfortable with themselves - but even small cogs are entitled to lucky breaks - which is how Leisurely people perceive the diference between the have and the have-nots.
Most of all, they feel entitled to be happy and claim this right vigorously - Leisurely individuals will not enslave themselves to anyone or anything, or substitute anybody else’s values for their own - they might have a role to play, a job to do, services to perform etc. but they are individual and separate, subject to their own dictates - they’re willing to do their part, but beyond that, they reserve the right to feel good privately.
Relationships
This same central attitude extends not just to work but also to their relationships, with the result that these can only work under a premise of “You don’t own me.” or contain a certain ambivalence -  Don’t misunderstand: People who have this as their dominant style are deeply entwined with other people - they’re family oriented and comfortable in groups. They like or even need to be taken care of and enter into relationships easily.
At the same time, they are, like Vigilant types, vaguely suspicious of others, especially people in authority - Leisurely types lowkey  expect others to ask too much of them. But while Vigilant people stand emotionally clear of people until they are certain their autonomy is assured, Leisurely individuals have a much greater immediate need of companionship - as well as a foolproof defense against being ill-used: If anyone asks them to sacrifice their self-determination, they’ll simply refuse -  they are frequently skilled at saying no and will always be protective of their individual freedom.
They’re not the sort to change themselves or a lifestyle they are satisfied with for the sake of a relationship, and if that means the relationship has to stop, they can generally accept that, seeing little sense in trying to win back an ex-partner who has clearly proven incompatible with their life an not likely to be happy with them - that said, they do care about their relationships & are likely to experience emotional pain when their desires conflict with those of their loved ones - they’ll usually go their own way in the endbut not without a lot of soul-searching in the end.
It’s not uncommon for people with this style to be read as lazy by those who don’t share their values, but that’s a misunderstanding: Not too different from archiever-types they’re dividing up their time according to what they want but what they want isn’t recognition or fancy stuff but to have a significant portion of their time to use as they please without outside encumbrance - they’re generally not rebels, mavericks, angrily defiant indvidals or anything of the sort: They won’t yell  or argue when asked to do something they consider far beyond their duties - they’ll simply refuse.
They might simply not want or value the same things as their type A friends/partners & not find it as important that this or that is done - sometimes with the result that the other person feels obliged to do it & ends up comlaining about having to do all the work when the Leisurely person never asked or expected them to.
Work
To a Leisurely person, work and moneymaking are generally a means, not the end. They’re the sort to look at their employment as “just a job” rather than a career or vocation.
Because they generally work not for fame or sucess, but simply to pay bills, get a pension, finance their pursuit of pleasure and maybe have fun, they generally won’t take work home, don’t worry about it after hours, won’t do work that they see as outside their responsibility & won’t do more than what is asked of them to please the boss or feel better about themselves - they feel just fine.
They can be good, cooperative workers & are quite capable of fulfilling the requirements and taking pride in what they do, but they don’t find the meaning of their life in their work and won’t let themselves be pushed around by someone who does - However, they might not necessarily see how their apparent lack of ambition might account for receiving less approval, encouragement or reward that their coworkers who do go the extra mile and may resent another person’s success as unjustified.
That said, individuals with a mixed pattern containing traits like Conscientious or Self-Conscious do manage to find pleasure somewhere in the workplace - some may be able to mix pleasure and business, which is probably the easiest to accomplish in creative work - others may enjoy some aspects of their work and procrastinate on others, or find something incidental to their work that they actually enjoy (such as the office sports team) - they can do very good work and stand a lot of tedium but the job is rarely going to be the central focus of their lives. They work slowly & comfortably and won’t rush to beat the clock, or to make an unreasonable deadline.
This may annoy the occasional supervisor or boss because people in authority generally expect their employees and subordinates to share their values & dedication to the project even though they ‘ll be getting a smaller share of the rewards, but the Leisurely person may reply that they’re not paid to photocopy bills or work past five, in short, that whatever extra stuff is being demanded is “not their job”, and they will certainly resist being exploited -
Leisurely types are at least mildly suspicious of authority in the workplace - they expect that the boss will want more than they are willing to give - which often proves true, especially when the job has no precise description, or when the boss is highly Conscientious, Self-Confident, Agressive or Serious. Leisurely individuals attempt to fulfill their obligations, but might feel ill-used if their supervisors or colleagues do not accept this as sufficient - if the boss asks them to do more or to work faster, they might begin to feel that they are being treated unfairly - in general, Leisurely individuals are very aware of their rights. Fair is fair, and anything else is exploitation - as such, they won’t hesitate to make use of such rights (like take off all the days they’re allowed to) and, for that, may be
While the promise of extra pay is usually not enough to tempt them to stay longer, being compensated with extra free time later on might actually do the trick - and if a Leisurely person happens to be self-employed, they’ll have much the same attitude toward authority and won’t let their clients make unreasonable demands of them.
Emotions
In terms of emotional dynamics, Leisurely individuals often fall into the phlegmatic temperament (or possibly SanPhleg if extroverted), or, as Oldham puts it, reminiscent of Lizards basking in the sun: They’re placid, patient, slow-moving, mellow and not likely to get upset.
Even when they’re angry, (usually because of real or perceived unfairness) they tend to be indirect about it and avoid head-on confrontation - instead they’ll sulk, assign blame elsewhere, act grouchy & sullen and half-heartedly neglect the tasks others want them to do, or act all scattered & procrastinatey until... ooops! The deadline has passed, basically doing a bad job so that they won’t be asked to do it again.
Self-Control
As a side effect of the above orientation toward chill, they tend to avoid things that might disrupt their “flow” - which might lead them to put off onerous tasks such as word deadlines, taxes, bill paying, christmas shopping etc. to the last minute.
Apart from that though, their self-control is actually fairly good (just used for their piorities) - a halfway healthy individual is not driven to excesses, though many little indulgences can backfire by adding up, leading one to damage their health out of sheer habit from too much sugar, booze etc.
Worldview
To people in which this style is predominant, the world is a fairly straightforward place, if populated with a lot of folks who claim authority over others and would have you working all the time on unimportant tasks - Leisurely individuals have a built-in immunity to these claims because they can see that work is only a part of what there is in life.
They protect their identities by keeping a low profile, fulfilling only those obligations to the system that they must, wishing for a stroke of good luck (to which they feel as entitled as the next guy) and then concentrating on what they really want to do with their time, or, as they call it, the real life.
Life Choices
Leadership
Predominantly Leisurely types are rarely found above mid-management, because they’re not that ambitious in their careers - they don’t want to devote themselves to getting ahead, don’t care about working hard enough to make tons of money and are very reluctant to make the kinds of sacrifices on their personal time that the fast track demands.
Since Leisurely individuals often work for the same company, agency or military branch, they may rise to mid-management levels over the years - as managers, they expect of their subordinates what they expect of themselves: A day’s work for a day’s pay. They don’t push anybody too hard, but they do expect their staffs to follow the rules and not make life difficult for them. They’re not particularly creative or motivating managers, but in the beaurocracies that they find themselves in, they fit right in & allow the wheels to keep turning without rocking the boat.
Job Recomendations
If this is your primary style (and you were unlucky enough not to be born rich), im for a good ‘ol 9-to-5 job in which you know exactly what is expected of you - Since people of your style like their challenges primarily outside the workplace, look for a secure job that offers good pensions & benefits (teacher, city hall clerk, civil service, union shops etc.) and avoid jbs where a lot of initiaive is required (eg. lawyer)
Be aware, however, that those more interested & invested in the job may receive more encouragement and rewards. While you might see self-employment as a way to ensure that you have sufficient time to yourself flexible working conditions, it might be a bit of a trap if you can’t muster the necessary self-discipline or switch from work to play - You might have better chances if you have traits of a more ‘disciplined’ style,  but it can also be hard to reconcile those two sides of yourself, as such traits can be in conflict inside a single individual as much as in society at large - A solution might be to become a consultant or freelancer, to combine pleasure & work by finding a job you enjoy (eg. creative work), or, you can try to focus on archievement while you’re young & kick back later once you’ve secured a foundation of cash and ressources.
Stress Sources
Perhaps as a result of maing their lives very comfortable, they’re rarely ever tense & generally don’t end up with stress or anxiety related problems - they tend to be emotionally even, but with one important exception: When they’re pushed to do more than they think is fair, or when someone pressures them to change their priorities - such situations would represent the primary souces of stress for a Leisurely individual.
In response they feel drawn to do things the other person’s way, but then react by resisting in a more demonstrative way, which can go from guiltily going along with it for a while to lowkey hostile, complainy passive-agressive behavior. If others keep insisting, the Leisurely person will indignantly justify their behavior and even try to rally others to their side.
If left alone to do their thing, it doesn’t take much for them to find emotional comfort - they don’t really need any great things to be satisfied, just a little bit of chill time - ultimately this is a slow, easy, pleasure-seeking style. Hapiness can come just from sitting in front of the TV with a bag of chips - but if their relationships with mates and supervisors are constantly strained by arguments, sourness may become their primary attitude.
Parenting
Generally speaking, Leisurely parents make for responsible breadwinners who are concerned with their children’s basic needs - their family life is an important source of pleasure for them and generally very important - they have a gift for enjoying themselves and can share in their children’s lives more memorably when they are all having a plain old wonderful time.
However, there can be a tendency t believe that what is best for them is also generally best for their children & they do not generally go out of their way to adapt to their children’s needs and wants if those are different from their own - they can be sort of old-fashioned. That said, they are usually not inflexible and will bend if someone can get through to them that they must.
In the maladaptive extremes, though, such a parent may refuse to comprehend that their children may have different needs than the one they assume and end up being remebered as a stubborn & selfish person more comcerned with their own comfort than the child’s welfare.
Romantic Compatibility
Strongly Leisurely people need mates who are accepting, understanding and giving nd are content to orbit around them - they won’t put the needs of the relationship first and will only go so far to please others, except when it comes to brief acts of contrition - that said, they do value their relationships, like being cared for and all will be well if their partners don’t mind the responsibility of keeping the relationship together and doing a little more of the chores. Then, they will prove to be responsive, appreciative, loyal and loving mates.
(A/N:  Alternatively, try someone who gives just as little fucks about excessive neatfreakery as you do - worked just fine for me on 2 separate occasions. Or, have some arrangement along the lines of “the living room stays clear but my desk my rules”. I personally prefer not to burden or embarass another person with my dirty dishes - can we agree that neither partner should have to twist themselves into a pretzel?)
A strong degree of either the Devoted or Self-Sacrificing style might be conductive to a harmonic match as those will usually be able to tolerate the Leisurely person’s fundamental self-interest while providing a warm & caring quality
Those with with pronounced Conscientious traits should look elsewhere though - Chances are they’ll have a hard time understanding or accepting each other’s approach to life. While they might get together due to the Leisurely type’s appreciation for the Conscientious ability to take care of things, this pairing very often turns very sour in the long run -  Neither style is good at compromizing and both wants stuff done their way.
For similar reasons, the Self-Confident style is probably out - their “high standards”/”ongoing archievements” approach tends to clash with the Leisurely style’s “work until content & then chill” MO, and the Self-Confident partner will tend to expect concessions that Leisurely types are unwilling to give
They often feel comfortable with Vigilant types as they both mistrust authority - the Vigilant person will typically be responsible and make fallback plans in case the Leisurely person mucks it up.
Two Leisurely people will generally respect & understand each others’ rights, but as they like to be taken care of it might help if one of them had a tad of Devoted or Self-Sacrificing style in them - also, someone needs to step forward & take charge when less desirable things need doing so it would depend on the exact “trait coctail” of the people involved.
Serious mates may provide a sense of resigned responsibility that can keep the relationship together - even if the Serious partner feels put upon, they don’t necessarily expect life to be all fun & games. They will likely support a highly Leisurely person’s belief that those who have it better ust got lucky, as well as their passive wishfulness and sourish attitude - they might not necessarily be able to share in the Leisurely person’t pleasures, but they certainly won’t keep them from pursuing them.
They will generally not be comfortable with emotionally demanding styles such as Dramatic or Mercurial
Relationships with Sensitive types might well work, but the Leisurely type should take care to be there for the Sensitive when they need suppor with personal challenges
Like the Leisurely style, the Adventurous style is pleasure seeking, but they tend to break the rules rather than stay within them & play ball, so forget this match
Specific Issues
The Leisurely Style vs. Housework
Since their free time is their main source of joy in their lives, Leisurely people need a lot of time to themselves - Even if they’re the local homemakers. In that case the house will be presentable enough, the meals good if not elaborate (unless cooking is one of their hobbies), but nothing will be particularly well kept, prepared or organized.
Taking care of a home & family is one of the more demanding jobs out there so it may be a good thing if the Leisurely individual knows how to set their limits, but they may run into problems if their mate doesn’t think of housework as “real” work & sees their need to have a break from it and entertain themselves as self-indulgent.
On the other hand, if the Leisurely mate is the one who works outside the home, they may mistakenly assume that their at-home partner didn’t have much to do all day & not be inclined to pitch in after they “did their due” on a long day of work (it’s easy to see how being raised with certain cultural expectation of what one’s “share” of the work constitutes can be unhelpful here ^^°)
In general, they treasure their non-work hours too much to give up too much of them for chores, especially if there’s other family members whom they feel could and/or should take care of it.
Success isn’t Everything
Leisurely-style people can be found in virtually all manner of careers, including, say, Chemistry professors, but rarely on top of any, which is fine by them - Since their overall comfort in life comes from how they enjoy themselves away from work, they rarely devote the time or  push that hard.
A pitfall of the Leisurely type may be that some for whom the trait is very pronounced may drift off course or lose direction in their life, but this needn’t happen - generally they can and do make good lifes for themselves (according to their own priorities) even if others may say that they haven’t done as well as they “should” have. For example, they might pass up a prestigious job for one that is secure and easy-going & be happy with their life as it is, doing the things they do, and will prefer doing activities they actually like (be it at work or at home) rather than squeezing the maximum potential out of everything.

Rehab After A Car Wreck – Houston Car Accident Lawyer: Rehab After A Car Wreck – Houston Car Accident Lawyer
If you have been involved in a car accident and need time for rehab, it’s clear if you have a range of questions.
And when these private injuries accidents happen, they often mean the victims are considering some rehabilitation period. For many, it may be only a couple of days. But when the collision was severe, then you may require weeks or even years to recuperate.
If you’ve been involved in a car accident and need time for rehab, it is understandable if you’re confused about what that means. Here are some of the most Frequent questions:
Does Insurance Cover My Rehabilitation? Texas law requires motorists to carry auto insurance for this exact purpose. There is a minimal requirement of:
This coverage also applies to prices for your health bills issued as part of your rehab. However, it’s your obligation to submit a report of your injury or injury to have the ability to earn the claim. If the injury was caused by another motorist, it’s also possible to ask for reimbursement from them, in which situation you should talk with a Houston car accident attorney.
What If My Insurance Company Denies My Claim? The insurance company can only deny your claim if:
You broke the law and that led to the car accident and injuries; Your injuries or situation aren’t covered by your auto insurance coverage; The amount you require is deemed ridiculous; You cannot show proof of your rehab costs (by dropping the medical bills of these receipts for your medicine). It’s important to know that if the organization accomplishes the claim and you believe they were not in their right to do this, you can appeal it with the help of a lawyer.
I have to missed days away work. Can I Get Compensated? If the car accident was caused by the other driver, then they are liable to cover your medical bills, in addition to account for the time you cannot work because of your injuries. In case the accident also caused a handicap, you can also apply for short-term impairment benefits, which may cover around 70% of your wages for the time you are not able to get the job done. But this greatly depends upon your condition, and the situation has to be reviewed by the state agency.
The period after an automobile accident might be a bewildering moment. The best chances of obtaining a clear response to all your questions is by calling a Houston automobile incident lawyer with experience in managing such cases and request them to critique your case. Doing this will make sure your rights are protected and will give you a better idea on what to do moving forward. Give us a call 24/7 for a FREE consultation: 832.458.1756.
