women in hollywood media of all decades have been like 99% model-esque, and I would not personally say it's any better to have average looking men constantly paired with bombshell model-esque women than to have model-esque men paired with model-esque women. it's not great that unrealistic beauty standards have expanded to encompass men in a lot of media (though certainly nowhere close to all of it), but i'm certainly not gonna say older media was better about this when at least in this day and age we very occasionally get shows like A League of their Own or (the adult timeline in) Yellowjackets starring women who look and are styled like people I occasionally see on the street

can't think of an old hollywood show that has room for an average looking female protagonist

now that my thai teacher is apparently gonna go through lines of dialogues with us in class more and more in the future i'm thinking of begging my teacher to do a scene from mafia the series with us. it's honestly SUCH a funny show and more people need to see it. and it's also a series that i think the straight middle aged men in my course will also enjoy

i won't generalize because every case is different and etc but the berserk fans who claim that the movies are the best adaptation of the manga tend to be the fans who least get what makes the story work, imo. it's like they prefer the movies because they are more straight up 'faithful' to the source material compared to the '97 anime in terms of plot points and levels of graphic violence and act as if that is the most important measure of a successful adaptation, while ignoring how much of the relationship dynamics and characterization of each main character were cut in order to make room for such scenes or rushed due time constraints and how it overall ends up feeling way more mechanical and soulless than the anime because of it.

I do not understand what people mean when they say Alicent was just protecting her children from Rhaenyra when really she just... used them in her own one sided beef with her. Like Rhaenyra literally lived for years in King's Landing and never tried to sabotage Alicent's family. Alicent knows that (unlike in the books where she left for Dragonstone right after her marriage). If anything she offered a marriage between Jace and Helaena if Alicent only cared about protecting her children she would've taken that offer.

I see where you're coming from, but also blorbo is different to everyone and we all had different experiences. I was in voltron but pidge was my blorbo, not lance, so I rarely saw him. And then I saw Yuuri everywhere whether I wanted to or not. Also, polls are not about accuracy, as much as we might think they should be. Life is a popularity contest. 🩵💙🩵💙🩵

my blorbo rankings contain multitudes. however, i am cognizant enough to recognize two things:

while lance is not my specific blorboest blorbo, i still rank him to be a more iconic blorbo than yuri. and so my vote for lance is still valid.

this poll is about most iconic blorbo. i like keith and allura more than i like lance, but i firmly believe that lance is voltron's most iconic character. i define "iconic" based on the following criteria: a) canon material; b) fandom experience and reaction; and c) impact on outsiders (the "did i see this character everywhere" standard). i heavily value points in the (b) category over points for (a) and (c).

lance's canon material sucks ass. however, the fandom's ability to 1) go crazy over lance anyway, and then 2) ability to extrapolate so heavily, insist on digging so deeply, and create so genuinely is impressive to me. and also incredibly hilarious. this is why i made the toxic iconity argument: i deeply respect the daily battles lance stans fought, both between themselves/the wider voltron fandom, and the constant enduring sisyphus-level uphill battle against the quality of the canon material. lance stans were able to create everything out of veritable nothingness, and i believe that deserves to be commemorated.

oh man i am LATE to this ask but hi hi!!! yeah no the ending in concept was alright i think but the execution was just. so disrespectful to betty's character. felt like she was just made to be a means to an end, in a sense. and pretty much every other aspect of simon's character felt sidelined at best and completely ignored at worst - the issues with his identity surrounding ice king, MARCY (i still can't believe she didn't even show up ONCE), etc.... it's all just so weirdly out of character for the show i don't know what's up with those last two episodes
