Summary: James has been persuing you for years and you've never said yes, until now?

It's not James's fault he's been head over heels in love with you for longer than he can remember. And it's really not his fault either that he's spent years acting like a complete and utter fool just to have a sliver of your attention.

Talking the loudest in any room you're in? Easy.

"Accidentally" flying too close to where you're sitting in the Quidditch stands while he's supposed to be playing just so he can flip around obnoxiously? He's done that over three times now.

So, when he hears you'll be at the Three Broomsticks this evening, it isn't surprising to anyone that he convinces Sirius and Remus to accompany him.

The moment they walk in, their loud demeanor makes everyone turn their heads. It's no secret James, Sirius, and Remus are the handsomest guys in your year — so no one could blame you when you look up too.

Your friend digs her elbow into your side when James sees you looking and struts to your table. You sit up, taking a long sip of your pumpkin juice as James leans in and crosses his arms.

Sirius and Remus stand behind him, amused. "Ladies," James winks, his eyes focused only on you. "What brings you here on this lovely Friday evening?"

You turn your head, avoiding his gaze with a small smile that makes James lose his mind, "Nothing that concerns you, Potter,"

"Can I buy you a drink?" he asks, unfazed by your bluntness as he motions to your empty glass.

When you stand, James smoothly moves out of the way and you send him a look behind your shoulder. "Mm, no thanks. But if you want you can walk with me to order my own drink," you joke, not thinking he'll actually want to.

But, if James was a puppy, he'd be your puppy. You have him wrapped around your little pinky and the only person who doesn't see it is you.

"Gladly," The boy smirks and his arm brushes yours as he walks next to you. You frown a little but don't say anything. You've never minded James's attention, and you know he's been after you for years now, but still you can't wrap your mind around him being serious about it.

In your mind, the attention was always bound to fade with time, and you wouldn't be caught as the fool who'd fallen for it.

However, as you lean against the bar to order another pumpkin juice and you feel James's eyes glued on you, you start to wonder.

"So, when's the expiration date for this little game?" you ask, looking at him seriously.

James leans against the bar too and completely turns his body to you. "Hmm? What?" he asks with a smile. He tucks the loose strand of hair from in front of your eyes behind you ear, seemingly proud of himself when he can see you clearly again.

"This," you point at him, and then throw your arms up dramatically, "Whatever it is that you're doing."

James just smiles. He's not really catching on as his hand slides closer to yours on the bar counter. "What am I doing?" he whispers, leaning in. He has that look in his eyes, the one that makes your stomach flutter.

You move your hand away from his. You sound exhausted, "All this flirting! Aren't you done yet?" you say it a little loudly and the woman who hands you your drink sends you a glare. Your cheeks heat up and you mumble a small sorry as you slide her your money.

James catches your other arm before you can turn around and walk away from him. "Hey wait, what do you mean am I done? Do'you want me to be done?" he sound unsure and you can see his confusion on his face.

Now you're confused. "Are you not planning on being done?" you whisper.

James can't hear you over the loud music and chatter inside so he moves you outside gently and you don't have to time to wonder why you let him.

It's slightly dark but the air is warm and James can hear you now when you ask the question again. He looks you over, still extremely puzzled by the entire situation.

"Wait, done with what?" he asks.

You blink at him. "What?" you feel like you're losing your mind.

"Am I done with what?" he asks camly and you roll your eyes.

"Done with flirting with me!" you exclaim, running a hand in your hair, "I- I don't understand, James. Why haven't you moved on? Sure, it was funny for a while but it's been years, even you must find the joke stale by now?"

James mouth opens and closes like some kind of fish and then he stares at you like you have lost your mind. "Joke? What joke?" he says and walks a little closer to you. He sounds even more confused. "Y/n, do you want me to stop flirting with you?"

You bite your lip, "I mean, yes? Because, it's not really funny anymore. I didn't mind it, Potter, but —" you pause and then hold the drink in your hand tighter. "Okay, here. What if I say I like you too? Can we just have a good laugh about it and then it all be over?"

James's frown deepens and he waves his arms in the air. "Wait, you think I'm joking?"

You blink at him again. "You're not?"

James runs a hand through his hair, chuckling in disbelief, "Of course I'm not joking," he walks even closer and you feel his presence as your skin tingles. You look up as he brushes his thumb on your chin and then smiles warmly, "I'd never pursue anyone as a joke. If you said you like me, then I would say thank Merlin and then I would kiss you until you couldn't feel those gorgeous lips of yours," he says it so calmly but you almost drop your drink.

"Wait, so you actually, no-jokes, like me?"

"Oh yeah. Why would you think I was making that up?" James moves his thumb to brush over your lips now, a look of adoration in his eyes, "I'm not that committed to my jokes," he teases.

He pauses to think, "you think a twelve-year-old boy would write you cheesy love notes every class and actually send them if it was a joke? Or likewise, a sixteen-year-old would spend all of 6th year reading every single book you borrowed from the library just in case he had the chance to impress you? Or lose sleep over the way you wear your hair, or know that you change your nail-polish every week but you rotate the same colors since 4th year," James blushes a little at the admission and pauses, "and now I just sound like a creep, don't I?"

You laugh and the sound makes James grin. You hesitate but touch his cheek, tilting your head, "So, you meant every over-the-top gesture and every hilariously stupid pick-up-line?" you ask, "ever since 2nd year?"

James nods, leaning into your touch. "Mmm yeah, but we can pretend that I was joking about the pick-up-lines that way it's less embarrassing for me," he says sheepishly.

"But I liked your pick up lines," you pout with a smile, your shoulders relaxing.

James's eyes sparkle, "Yeah? You did?"

You smile at him. "No, but now it's funnier that you were serious about them."

James looks at you and he laughs. He throws his head back with a grin and your chest tightens even more. Has he always been this handsome or have you just never let yourself fully admire him? James looks at you again and his next words almost cause a heart attack. "Merlin, I've never wanted to kiss you as much as I do now,"

Your eyes flicker to his lips unconsciously and you realiz ehow close he is. You're nervous now and James can tell. Gently, he takes the drink in your hand and sets it on the small ledge of the building. It might fall but that's the least of your worries. For now, you need to focus on remembering how to breathe.

Something must be different in the way you're looking at him because James asks you if he can kiss you. Years and years of flirting and he's never asked you that.

You don't answer him and just when the silence starts to become awkward you take his cheeks in your hands and pull him towards you. Your lips hit his clumsily and you gasp into his mouth when his arm swoops behind you and he pulls you closer. James kisses you hungrily and you start to wonder why you hadn't done this years earlier.

When James disconnects his lips from yours and looks at you sweetly. "I didn't think you'd say yes," he whispers, "even less that you'd say it like that," his cheeks are tainted pink and your lip-gloss stains his lips.

"Neither did I," you admit and look away a moment. Goosebumps run across your arms and, because you don't know where to put your hands anymore, you put them in your jacket pockets. You frown and pull out the galleons you'd used to pay for your drink with your left hand. You look back at James and he looks guilty. "What's this?" you ask.

"I paid for your drink when you weren't looking. I knew you'd most likely say no again but I couldn't resist. I'm sorry," he holds his nape and sways on his feet.

You stare at him, slightly annoyed but also impressed that he'd put the money in your pocket without you noticing. You outsrech your open palm for him to take the money. "You'know, you make it very hard for me not to fall head over heels in love with you, James Potter."

James grins and closes your hand around his. "That the point, love," he says.

You roll your eyes, realizing if he'd gone behind your back to pay for you he'll never accept your money now. "So, are you gonna ask me out properly or what?"

James smirks, "Are you going to say yes this time?"

You grin, "You'll just have to find out now, won't you? Tenth times the charm?"

"I don't think that's the expression—"

"Just ask me already, you idiot," you giggle.

I did! But I can't find it which is fine bc it came to my attention the mercury can be no more than one sign from your sun and your venus can be no more than two signs away from your sun as well

⬆️ I hc him as a Taurus Rising bc it would make his chart line up with I think scorpio 7th house which fits him perfectly imo on how he bonds with others and what he brings to a relationship and probably craves in a partnership. AND Bill Paxton looks like such a Taurus Male that Severen has to have it in his chart somewhere lol. Besides, when he's not trying to get ppls attention he's very chill and stoic like what we see in the camper when Caleb wakes up. Earth risings can be intimidating when you don't know them so it still fits to me. They're Practical, Stubborn and Confident.

He could also be a Leo Rising or Scorpio rising though. Ngl I struggle with the rising but we'll just go with that.

☀️ Sagittarius Sun instead of Leo like I originally thought because as a Leo Sun none of the chart lines up but Leo Mercury and Venus. Honestly? He's too brash and dark for that. Goofballs, flirty, wandering type that is blunt and they're optimistic in a 'welp shit, nowhere to go but up from here' sort of way rather than rosy glasses 'everything is great' sort of way and considering Sev I'd say it fits.

🌙 Aries Moon I will not budge on. He explodes with emotion whether happy or angry and all emotions come to him easy as they do intensely and then he's over it just as fast. They like independence just as much as being near their peopls, challenges and they are very brave and passionate people. They will march head first into a situation and feel little to no fear. SEVEREN.

🪐 Aries Mercury I won't budge too much on either. Istg we DO NOT focus on the mercury like we should! It's your humor, work ethic, view of the world, communication....HELLO? That is a very big thing just like the rising yet it gets overlooked sm! I almost could see him as a Leo mercury BUT I still choose Aries. And even though he is egotistical; I have multiple Aries Mercury and Leo Mercury's in my life. They are very similar but still different. They both have strong opinions, both are blunt, both are arrogant in their own ways but a Leo Mercury is more likely to be more warm and they do consider things when speaking because they care how people view them. They are regal in that way...Aries? As a Capricorn Mercury; I love them ♡ they just let their impulsive thoughts win every time and truly don't care what others think ☠️ And a Leo Mercury views things as a 'stage' to preform on while Aries looks at it as a 'sporting event' where everything is a challenge. My cousin is an Aries Merc and she will play a game till she wins or cheats while my leo merc uncle and sister will argue right away that the game is dumb if they don't win on the first try then deny that they thought that way...Leo is gonna think it's below them, Aries is gonna keep going till they win even if they cheat that is as Severen as it gets.

🖤 - Scorpio Venus. Your venus is your style, what you find appealing, how you love, how you have sex (I follow traditional astrology where Venus THE GODDESS OF LOVE AND LUST is the ruler of ur sexlife while Mars THE GOD OF WAR AND ACTION is just that. Modern astrology equating passion/action with sex never sat right with me. Sex is technically your venus and mars combined but the venus is how you love and that includes in bed but anyways-)

Severen dresses dark, edgy and bold. If he isn't a Scorpio Venus then he is a Scorpio Rising Ong. Venus is ALL relationships and He shows an intense loyalty to his family to the point he risks his life for them. Scorpio Venus's are ride or dies. We do anything for our loved ones, I should know, I'm one too and I see a lot of Severen's choices and reactions involving others in myself good and bad. Like him wanting revenge against Caleb for 'betraying' them? Hate to say it but yeah. Scorpio is ruled by Mars and in Venus it makes us intense and if Severen has an Aries Stellium it makes it ten times worse. Once slighted he is prone to being vindictive and intense and it takes a lot for him to trust you but once he does? He'll do anything for you and protect you. In love, he is possessive, protective, passionate, and intense. Like, he is probably toxic and possessive even if he doesn't show it. He is insisting on being with his partner every night hunting and if they want alone time he's stalking them without them knowing to 'protect them' and he is protective! Anyone that would look at his family crossways gets it so can you imagine his partner? Scorpio Venus excludes everyone but their people/person and are loyal for life. (Which is why he was so enraged at Caleb betraying them after he gave him his spur and let his guard down)

I ALMOST put Aries Venus because they can be so similar with both ruled by Mars but Aries Venus falls quickly and intense which COULD be Sev but considering Sev I still see Scorpio. Aries is more likly to chase the red flags because they crave an exciting partner as a Scorpio venus we ARE the red flags. I could see Aries Venus or Scorpio Venus but he seems more reluctant to trust friendships than an Aries Venus is imo. Considering Sev is the ONLY one not actively in or looking for a partner in Near Dark and has very few people he seems to care about I'm sticking with Scorpio for now.

🔥 - Aries Mars I wont budge on either. That man would punch God or the Devil in the face if he could. Fearless, Brazen, Bold, Quick Tempered, Leaps into Action. We saw first hand he gets pissed and explosive like when he had to be held back by Jesse before he ripped Caleb's head off for hurting Mae by drinking from her (Scorpio Venus shining through again im js) and he got over it just as quickly at the bar that very night.

Truth to be told, Jonathan hates smoking.

He hates the way it feels in his lungs, the coating it leaves on their insides and the burn he feels whenever he inhales. But recently, he's been stressed out of his mind, thinking about college and Nancy and everything that managed to carry over to California with them when they moved.

Hence, Argyle.

Fascinatingly enough, Argyle's been treating the entire year like it's acceptance season, the time of high school where every senior is just about ready to throw in the towel and give up on all pretense of even trying any longer. And yeah, maybe he wants to feel like that for an hour, see the rest of the world through rose-colored glasses for once.

So, the next time the two of them are hanging out in Argyle's driveway, the older with a blunt between his fingers, Jonathan blurts out, "Can I try a hit?"

Argyle stares at him for a moment, wide-eyed, before his face splits into a wide grin. "Alright, man, yeah! You know how to do this?"

"I've smoked before. I'm assuming it's the same," he says, a bit shyly. Argyle nods and passes the joint to him, smoke curling in the air between them. The weed smells, but as its source draws closer, he finds he doesn't mind it quite as much.

Argyle watches as he takes a drag, holding the smoke in his lungs for a few seconds before blowing it out all in a rush, and laughs. "Strong shit, isn't it? Not quite Purple Palm Tree Delight, but you've gotta work up to that." He takes it again, and the two of them pass it back and forth for a few minutes until Jonathan's starting to feel something. It's not the high he expected, though.

"Fuhhck..." Jonathan murmurs, closing his eyes and inhaling slowly, pressing the heels of his palms against his eyes. God, they itch. "Is this normal?"

"No idea, brochacho," Argyle answers, frowning. "Your eyes are already red. That usually doesn't happen this fast."

"I'm all... irritated." Never mind, he is absolutely high. Jonathan can't think of a single scenario where he'd admit to feeling bad. "Like..."

His sentence trails off mid-thought, and his breath hitches audibly. Before he even realizes what's happening, Jonathan's pressing a soft sneeze into his wrist, unstifled. "h'mptchh!"

Yep. He's high.

"Blessya," Argyle says, eyes narrowing slightly. "Man, are you alright?"

"Noht sure." He turns away from the joint still in Argyle's hand, and sneezes again, this time in the usual way that he does: stifled into silence and completely undetectable aside from the way he leans into it. Thankfully, the other misses it this time, and Jonathan takes the blunt from him again like nothing happened.

This time, though, he can't even get it to his lips before he's sneezing again, sudden and stifled. It's one of the rapid fits he hates, a quick burst of five that scrape at his lungs and end with a rough cough.

"Blessya," Argyle says again, concern more tangible when he glances over to Jonathan again. "Seriously, this isn't a normal reaction."

Jonathan just shrugs, passing it back so that Argyle can enjoy the rest of it, even if he can't. "Yeah, I suppose not."

does comfort have to mean I feel normal and calm about them in addition to them bringing you comfort bc if so I don't know if I have any 🙃 assuming the definition is not that strict let's go with... echo/ash from the 100 and then entire crew of the revenge from ofmd bc they all bring me joy

2. lighter or matches?

matches all the way, I almost always have some within ~15 seconds away

3. do you leave the window open at night?

if the temperature outside is right for it then absolutely! here that means fall and spring but in my old apartment it was always so hot so I also left my windows open during the winter which was kinda awesome

6. why did you do that?

probably because I wasn't paying attention but possibly because I felt like it

11. favorite extracurricular activity?

if this in a school sense then band in general either sewing or playing piano. it depends a little on my mood and a lot on who else is home (I don't like playing piano when someone else is around)

17. are you farsighted or nearsighted?

I always mix up which is which but I'm the one that can't see far away. when I got my driver's license the guy who did the eye test was like 'do you by chance have glasses?' and I said yes at home and he said 'okay go get them and come back' and I thought he was joking but no I'm legally required to wear glasses to drive

21. something you’ve kept since childhood?

I'm very selective about the physical possessions I keep but I do have a few year books and journals from elementary/middle school. I was a very blunt writer in third grade so those are entertaining to look back on

34. is there a song you know every word to by heart?

too many to name! I'm a chronic repeat-listener and will put the same song on repeat for hours at a time and days in a row. some of my most frequently repeated songs the past few months have been: my heart is buried in venice by ricky montgomery, the sharpest lives by mcr, and heavy by orla gartland

Madricest bitches know that I'm mentally punching you in the throat

-Antonio is a little shit to Camilo every day. Little Shit behavior started as soon as he could walk. Camilo took it as a challenge though so they have mini prank wars that no one knows about

-The more negative Bruno feels when performing a prophecy, the more negative the prophecy is. If he really doesn't want to do it, he's more likely to show you a vision of your dog dying than meeting the love of your life. The reason the vision worked for Mirabel was bc he started to get excited once he saw the butterfly

-Both Pepa and Dolores are extremely blunt, sometimes to the point of offense. They'll look you in the eye, tell you your face looks like crap and walk away. Dolores does this because she Does Not Care and never will. Pepa does this because she cannot read a room for shit

-Luisa has very soft and fluffy hair

-Agustin can actually be incredibly smooth on a good day. When they first met, Julieta thought he was just a cute, clumsy nerd until one day he rolled up to her table, pulled out the cleanest one-liner ever and left her a flustered mess. The illusion was immediately broken when he tripped on air while walking away but she had already fallen hard by then

-Isabela, Dolores, and Pepa have days where they'll meet up in one of their rooms (usually Dolores') and gossip for hours.

-At some point in their lives every grandkid has accidentally called their tia 'Mami'. Pepa and Julieta absolutely adore it when this happens and it usually leads to a lot of cooing and smothering kisses as the grandkid in question tries to escape with their dignity

-Felix is a chess grandmaster

-Pepa and Bruno used to beat the shit out of each other on a daily basis for literally no reason. They would be walking down the same corridor, share a Look and immediately start squaring up. It baffles everyone to this day

-Luisa loved being held but she grew very quickly and soon no one was able to pick her up or give her good hugs anymore. The solution Julieta was to lay Luisa's head in her lap and gently stroke her face and hair. It works every time and different members of the family will do this if they notice she's feeling stressed out

-Mirabel got away with absolutely everything as a kid bc she was so damn cute. Her puppy dog eyes were especially lethal since the glasses amplified them.

-Luisa has a love of reading that she got from Alma who read to her nearly every day at one point.

-No adult in the Madrigal household has ever laid hands on their children and no adult ever will.

-Every Madrigal has an extremely deep-set sense of loyalty, Alma and Luisa especially. If you can worm your way into their hearts they're pretty much ride or die for you unless you mess with their family.

-Dolores is the type of girl to step away and call the cops if anyone even thinks about trying to touch her. But that doesn't mean she can't fight

-Isabela on the other hand will throw down all day and every day. As soon as anyone gives her a reason she pops tf off. She doesn't even use her powers, just 16 years of pent up aggression and a slowly building tolerance for pain

-Julieta has said "when I was your age..." to her triplet siblings at least once

-Isabela can create sentient potato people because fuck Disney for cutting that out

-Pepa looks a lot like her Abuela. Alma wasn't able to save any pictures of her when they fled but she often talks about her.

-Luisa and Agustin have daddy-daughter book clubs

-Pepa doesn't actually need to feel any particular emotion to summon weather. She can just want it to rain and boom, rain. However, she can't control it at all when her emotions get the best of her.

-Bruno is quite the fan gossip himself. He doesn't usually speak much but he'll listen in on the Pepa and the girls' sessions and they do his hair

-Julieta can just touch anything edible and it will become magical. Her logic is why wait for someone to make the food and go around putting her hands in everybody's plates afterward when she can just make the meals herself

-Pepa is one of those people that will say she can do something she absolutely cannot do and practice it everyday until she gets good at it out of spite. Because of this she is surprisingly versatile. It's one trait Isa and Mirabel picked up from her

~Angst~

-When they were teenagers, the triplets promised each other that they would not outlive one another. When Bruno vanished without warning, everyone initially assumed the worst. For the next few weeks, Felix and Agustin glued themselves to their wives' sides to make sure they didn't do anything...drastic.

-Alma had to do things...she isn't proud of in order to ensure her family's saftey when the Encanto was risen, especially after the triplets got their gifts. Most people were more than happy to follow her lead but there were many who saw a naive young woman with three magic piggy banks. And they were more than willing to hurt to get what they wanted
