9/11 Fireman’s Son Sees Dad on Archives Instagram

“Hello, I just came across this picture that you posted and the firefighter in the middle is my dad. Is there any way you can send me the original photo?”

20 years after that haunting picture was taken at Ground Zero, a 9/11 Instagram post connected a firefighter to the National Archives. Last November we had the honor of welcoming the Bardo family to the National Archives.

This is peak MAGA horror.

The library didn’t even *have* the books they protested about.

But you showed up with guns and terrified a nice librarian lady enough to quit her job.

I get flashbacks to when the GOP loved Laura Bush because “But she is a sweet, shy pretty librarian, who wants to teach kids to read. No one can possibly dislike her.” Even most Democrats were generally fine with her.

Modern day GOP: “She’s a massive threat.”

If you're in Houston right now, I'd leave, period.

Apparently this is all the detail that's public on the gas leak:

The same thing happened in my home town. The radius widened within minutes which is why I'm suggesting you leave Houston for a few hours if you can.

The gas leak in my home town resulted in an explosion that killed one person. That's when the radius widened a lot.

My brother witnessed it. He was about a half a mile away and he was in his truck, which lifted off the ground by "what felt like an inch." He'd probably be seriously injured if he wasn't in that truck.

I'm going to be tagging this with tourist attractions in Houston to make sure that as many people as possible sees this.

Had a dream about Eliot finding a big abandoned library that a giant spider person has made into their home. the spider person was very not nice and the experience left Eliot afraid of spiders even though normally he likes them (the spider person was also in control of all the normal spiders that lived there or something)

#duck speaks #ocs #Eliot #there were other people who also found the library and sort hung around Eliot. but none that he knew already #and also I'm pretty sure they didn't make it out of there. so also none that he'd see again later #the only person who was another one of my ocs was Sage. and they showed up in sorta a flash forward thing #like. a scene that would happen a while after this #they were walking together somewhere and a spider was hanging down from a web in the path where in front of them #and Sage was about to tell Eliot to move it out of the way (put it in a bush or something) like he usually does #but Eliot jumped and looked all scared when he saw it #and Sage looked concerned and went '.. you ok bud?'#very compelling concept I think. Eliot solo adventure where he gets scared and experiences the horrors #at some parts of the dream I would even stop and think about how I could draw it out as a comic #I remember going 'oh we're gonna need to put a big arachniphobia warning at top of this one huh'#it's not even a comic normally.. it only exists in my head rn really

President Truman receives a turkey from the National Egg and Poultry Board, 11/16/1949. Truman Library. NARA ID 200138.

Did Truman Pardon a Turkey?

The Truman Library has received many requests over the years for information confirming the story that President Truman "pardoned" a Thanksgiving turkey in 1947, thus initiating a Presidential tradition that continues to this day.

The presentation of a turkey to the President at Thanksgiving is a long-standing tradition. But these kids were not impressed.

Many believe that it was President Truman who first pardoned a turkey, but until President George H.W. Bush pardoned the turkey in 1989, the presented poultry was destined for the dining room!

In 1947, the National Turkey Federation and the Poultry and Egg National Board began presenting the White House with a turkey. Truman accepted the turkey…and most likely ate it.

Staff at the Truman Presidential Library have never found any documents, speeches, newspaper clippings, photographs, or other contemporary records in their holdings which refer to Truman pardoning a turkey.

However, after President Bush’s official announcement in 1989, the birds have retired to a farm after their moment in the spotlight.

Your own choice of an 80s alt album if you haven't

Since I have listened to three songs off of Hounds of Love, I figured that I should give the whole album a listen. Also I was finishing up a drawing and it gives me something different to listen to instead of one song on loop. Now let’s get into it!

Best song(s): Hello Earth and Running Up That Hill.

Favourite Song: Hello Earth. I love it’s somber tone.

Least Favourite: I honestly don’t have a least favourite song. They are all good in their own right. Though I have an extremely neutral opinion on Watching You Without Me.

Most Overrated: I honestly have no idea but looking from a subjective lens, it’s Running Up That Hill. I hate to say it but it’s true. That song is everywhere. I still love it though after all it was my introduction to Kate Bush and I’ll always have a soft spot for it.

Most Underrated: Hello Earth. It’s not talked about enough and it has the exact same amount of power as Running Up That Hill.

Banger of all Bangers: Jig of Life. It sounds so fun. I want to dance to it.

Rating: 9.5/10. It’s a really good album. At some point I’m going to go get it on vinyl (I always buy albums I love on vinyl)

Will all the presidents who are still alive right now be buried at their presidential libraries when they die?

John F. Kennedy is buried at Arlington National Cemetery and Lyndon B. Johnson is buried in a family graveyard near the LBJ Ranch, but every other President since Herbert Hoover has been buried on the grounds of their Presidential Library or Museum (Gerald Ford's Presidential Library and Presidential Museum are in separate locations and he's buried at his Museum), so that's the most likely scenario for the Presidents who are still living today.

Jimmy Carter will be buried in the yard of his longtime home in Plains, Georgia (which is a National Historic Site) instead of his Presidential Library in Atlanta.

Bill Clinton will be buried on the grounds of his Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. This is actually where Clinton's grave will eventually be located:

For many years, George W. Bush was going to be buried at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin and he and former First Lady Laura Bush had even chosen their plot already. However, following the death of Bush's mother in 2018 and her burial at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas, the former President and his wife decided that they will eventually be laid to rest at the George W. Bush Presidential Library, located at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

We don't know where Barack Obama or Donald Trump will be buried. Obama is building his Presidential Center in Chicago, but it is apparently against the law for people to be buried anywhere other than cemeteries in Chicago.

President Biden also has not revealed any plans about where he will eventually be buried. However, nearly all of President Biden's immediate family members have been buried at the parish cemetery of St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church near Wilmington, Delaware, including Biden's parents, his first wife Neilia and infant daughter Naomi (who were killed in car accident in 1972), as well as his beloved son, Beau, who died of brain cancer in 2015. Considering how tight-knit Biden's family has been, I would not be surprised if that will someday also be the President's final resting place.
