“So… I’m the last one to know it all.” Tetchô asked, in a monotone voice which still had some sprinkles of defeat to it. He was the only one who had been fully kept in the dark by their captain and it stung, even when it didn’t take a genius to know Jôno and Teruko hadn’t had it exactly better.

“I mean, it’s not like he told me the whole truth either.” Jôno added, sighing. “And my role in the whole thing would’ve been becoming a criminal again, even if for a greater cause.”

“And I’d trade ignorance, even the half-assed explanation, over the part I had to play in a heartbeat. Dunno what to tell you.” Tetchô couldn’t call his previous ignorance as a blessing, but Teruko’s words were quick on making clear how knowledge had indeed been a curse. After all, she had been tasked with killing the captain… in the case of Fukuzawa Yukichi not being able to. Plan to try and ensure world peace or not, it sucked. “Being the one he confided in the most, it’s kinda bullshit, when he could easily spare him and not me from the pain of doing what was deemed as necessary.” Teruko gritted her teeth. “That whole thing better work out, because if not…”

The sentence ended there, and silence fell for a while right after. Instead of an official meeting, that conversation was taking place with the three of them sitting on a couch, during a restless night that had brought them there as if it had been rehearsed.

And after a little more time, they all scooted closer to each other.

“Isn’t it shitty, how he’s gone and we can’t tell him all of this.” Jôno then said, in almost a whisper. Tetchô couldn’t help but nod, and a brief ‘hmm’ also came from Teruko.

“We get to be mad and sad but not to confront him about it.” Teruko let out a deep sigh. “The captain’s dead, I’d bet anything on how Tachihara’s officially leaving and… guess whatever’s in store next it’s up to the three of us. So we’d better get some sleep, boys.”

None seemed to be exactly eager to get up, so Tetchô opted for doing the next best thing; reaching out without moving much, he grabbed the gigantic blanket they used in movie nights and carefully draped all of them with it.

Out of all the Hunting Dogs members, Tachihara rly seems to be the closest to Jouno (after Teruko ofc) But why is that the case?

I mean just LOOK at how proud Tachihara looks in this panel after receiving that praise from Jouno! It’s sooo cute I-😭 But why is Tachihara so close to Jouno of all people?

Well I HC that when Tachihara first joins the HD, his criminal background makes him understandably very distrustful/fearful of everyone else. It feels less like the HD are his coworkers and more like they’re just cops keeping an eye on him, just waiting for when he’ll inevitably slip up so they can finally lock his ass away. He just can’t get that criminal-cop mindset out of his head yet.

Jouno was the only person that could understand and relate to Tachihara considering he was also a formal criminal (tho I don’t think he was ever scared of the HD, he still felt that same distrust in his first couple years as well)

And so to make Tachihara feel more comfortable/calm (cuz he’s actually starting to care for the boy getting sick of constantly hearing Tachihara’s too fast heart beat) Jouno decides to casually bring up all the stupidly profitable crimes Tachihara could’ve committed with his ability, going into suspiciously criminal amounts of detail. Most of the heists that he brings up r stuff that he himself was planning to do in the mafia before he got arrested. Jouno talks about this to help remove the whole ‘HD-dangerous-cop’ association that Tachihara has made.

At first Tachihara is very suspicious and hesitant to answer, assuming this must be some sort twisted way to set him up. But then he realizes Jouno just genuinely enjoys talking about crimes as if they aren’t surrounded by Japan’s elite police force. And yet no one ever actually does anything to Jouno, even tho everything he says is so illegal, that he should’ve already gone to prison 20 times over just for even uttering half that stuff lol.

These conversations rly help Tachihara to stop seeing the HD as just ‘cops’ and he immediately begins to open up. Soon he and Jouno r having like hour long conversations, literally just discussing various heists in great detail.

They make Tetchou slightly uncomfortable with their blase view of big time crime so every time they start talking about this stuff, Tetchou just silently walks out of the room lol (Jouno 100% teases him for that, constantly inviting him to join their conversations, to which Tetchou always politely declines lol)

Ofc, to remind Tachihara that at the end of the day, they ARE still just only coworkers (not friends), Jouno likes to end their conversations laughing, saying ‘Of course, if you were to actually try any of this, I would not hesitate to gouge your eyes out and feed them to the dogs’ which always keeps Tachihara from being too casual.

Despite that tho, Tachihara can’t help but still see Jouno as older brother figure. A terrifying brother figure, but a brother figure nonetheless. In some ways, he actually somewhat prefers his relationship with Jouno than that with his actual brother. Don’t get me wrong: he still loves his brother but… unlike with his brother, no one pressures him to be like Jouno; if anything, they actually discourage Tachihara from becoming too much like him lol.

The HD never make him feel like he HAS to live up to anyone. Instead they actually want him to become his own person so he can add something unique to the team. They never make him feel like he’s not enough. And that just means so much to someone like Tachihara, who spent his whole life feeling so inadequate compared to perfection of the dead.

So yeah, that’s how Jouno and the Hunting Dogs became Tachihara’s found family

Everything had gone dark when whatever that had struck them all hit, and coming back to his senses didn’t help it. If anything, it considerably made things worse; not only the world was pitch black but Tetchô was instantly bombarded by a ton of information at once. Sounds seemed too loud, smells too strong, and by what he could pick up from conversations around him…

… the rest had their own share of strange stuff too.

“Fuck, not this shit again.” That voice sounded like the captain’s but… despite him not being a stranger to swearing, that sort of speech was more typical of Tachihara instead.

“Again? Like that day with the Port Mafia?” Hearing his own voice like that might be the weirdest thing of all. “Do you think it’s contagious or nah? I mean, bet it isn’t but it’d been funny as hell.” The way of speaking, meanwhile, said ‘Teruko’ clearly. “And you, what’s with that weird stare? Could it be perhaps that–?”

“Tsk, no.” The former definitely had to be Teruko, and now it was… Jôno, sounding like Tachihara. “Just curious about you all. Anyway, I want to go back, preferably before Tetchô-san does something stupid.”

“What are you talking about?” Tetchô answered, startling himself due to both having Jôno’s voice and the volume being a bit too high for his untrained brain. Damn, he had always been grateful about missing the sensory issues part, but after having a taste at it… Besides, not only had he been aware of the implications of what he had gotten since starting to recognize his teammates, but now there was full confirmation and… damn, Tetchô could feel the blush starting to burst.

“Stupid like that, for example!”

“Aw, I think your flustered face is cute, a shame he’s missing it.” Teruko cooed, and the next noticeable thing was a loud groan.

“Before you start misbehaving like kids,” Then it came who could only be the actual captain in Teruko’s body. “I had to deal with this some time ago, and it’s just a matter of time. Chill.”

Good advice, really. A shame putting it into practice seemed like a titanic task then and there.

Hey mafia, agency, guild, hd. Whoever else. Take ur time but uh…

If I were to do the math (and granted, I’m not great at math, I go to art school)

- The Hunting Dogs have monthly surgeries. Because fuck them ig. Months aren’t all even, and if wouldn’t make sense to have them the same day every month, so we can put it at 4 weeks or 28 days. Also, that way Tachihara leaving for his surgery wouldn’t be the same day every month

- Tachihara said he’s been back in the mafia for 2 weeks. We can assume he got his surgery right before he went back bc his hand was pretty banged up and it was fine when we saw him next (and in flashbacks).

- So we’ll assume that it’s 14 days, give or take

- Then he went missing 4 days before the latest moment in the timeline

- So if we’re keeping track, it’s been abt 18 days. Which means he has abt 10 left.

Now again, no rush or anything, but like y’all better start looking bc the only person who knew his location is dead
