Ml theory - Lila in the 2nd half of the season and the total escalation in the finale
I know this comes completely out if nowhere because Lila hardly played a part in s4 yet and the new episodes are hyped as hell but I recently rewatched two of my favorite episodes "Oni-Chan" and "Lies and I just fell down the rabbit hole because real life is just driving me NUTS recently.
I haven't seen anyone really talk about this before, but I was utterly obsessed with this little loophole ever since "Lies" aired and maybe, just maybe, I've got it now.
What I'm talking about is a small but JARRING loose end of the Adrigami break up and how LILA will use it to make Adrien seem like he cheated on Kagami and will weasel herself into the status as his girlfriend, figure out his secret identitiy to basically blackmail him and ALOT MORE (lol Fandom is currently loosing its shit because of the upcoming ladynoir fallout and I'm just here thinking: "yeah, let's make it WORSE!")
Tumblr media
My last 3 days down the rabbit hole were just as wild as this sounds like so make yourself comfortable, because this is probably going to be another essay and I hope all of this ended up comprehensive enough explained because I didn't have alot of time for editing and rewriting this time again.
The idea of Lila making people believe Adrien is in a relationship with her and cheated on Kagami immediately plopped into my head once I saw how the reason Kagami thinks Adrien stands her up for is framed.
Tumblr media
Quite alot of people in the Fandom catched on the underlying tone of "girlfriend holding her cheating boyfriend accountable" (some even to the extent of just taking that tone and running with it as if that's anywhere close to what actually happened in Canon. But you know, salters gotta proof they have no comprenion skill.) And I don't think this choice was random by any means. It's forshadowing and setting up later plot development if I'd ever seen it, because Adrigamis break up was done in a way that PICTURE PERFECTLY gives Lila later on the chance to take advantage of it. Ho-ly SHIT!
Let me break this entire situation down.
First if all, the idea of Lila as Adriens girlfriend is anything but new in the show. Right from the first episode she was introduced in ("Volpina") she made moves on Adrien and wanted him as her boyfriend because of the fame and opportunities he can bring her.
Tumblr media
In "Catalyst" we see her lying to her mother that she is in a relationship with Adrien.
Tumblr media
And in "Oni Chan" she was also treated by every character (besides Adrien himself lol) as a potential love interest.
Tumblr media
Literally, this has been built up since the very beginning. And now "Lies" has given us the Catalyst event Lila will take advantage of (how fitting that the episode is called LIES huh?)
"But what exactly will she take advantage of?" you ask and let me tell you how messes up that situation is.
Just for record I wanna remind everyone that Kagami actually DIDN'T accuse Adrien of cheating on him, even if the scene is framed that way. All Kagami is saying is that she thinks that Adrien continuesly stood her up so he can spend time with his other friends. Marinette in particular.
Tumblr media
Hence why she gave them her blessing in "Mr Pigeon 72". Again, she isn't saying he cheated on her with Marinette but Kagami thinks she recognized that Adrien has feelings for Marinette (and she knows Marinette DEFINITELY has feelings for him lol) so she set her feelings aside (PROPS TO HER!) and cleared the way for her former boyfriend who she thinks finally sorted out his confused feelings. And in her eyes his heart wants Marinette.
Tumblr media
Btw, her saying this line is a call back to "Oni-Chan" as well where her akumatized form said just that about herself and Adrien.
Tumblr media
Now there is a problem though, can you tell what it is? I'll give you a hint: Adrien DIDN'T stand Kagami up to spend more time with his other friends/Marinette, he was busy being his secret identitiy. A persona NOBODY KNOWS IS HIM.
So what do you think is gonna happen if Kagami ever mentions towards Marinette or any other of their friends that she thinks Adrien was with them? In "Lies" we saw Kagamis secret passion of art, something she is OBVIOUSLY going to bond over with Marinette who she is building a solid friendship with now.
Tumblr media
In “Mr Pideon 72″ Marinette never really let Kagami explain why she broke up with Adrien, already assuming that they just had some kind of missunderstanding (they DID but you get it) and its more of a pride problem from Kagami. Marinette doesnt even concider that reason for the breakup might have been something BIG and cant be solved by pushing them back together (im getting flashbacks from “Bakerix” where Marinette may have gotten her grandfather to come back into his sons life after- what was it? 20 years? But in NO WAY is the emotional issue solved, but this is going to be something Adrien will help Tom with at a later point.)
Well, we all know what show we are watching so don't tell me its unlikely that this wrong assumption of Marinette is gonna be set right at some point. Literally all it takes is Marinette getting Kagami to talk about the break up and she will find out that Adrien apparently stood Kagami up to spend time with her, MARINETTE.
And Marinette of course is very well aware that Adrien wasn't with her (I mean, HE WAS, obviously, but you get what I'm saying here).
Which will get the stone rolling.
Marinette knows Adrien "wasn't" with her and he wasn't with any of their other friends either, then WHERE WAS HE?
Unfortunately for Adrien now he never broke the secret identitiy rule, so now nobody can help him out with an alibi the way Alya could for Marinette (would you look at that, Adrien once again getting harshly punished for behaving RIGHT). Even MORE unfortunate for him is that he can't explain where he actually was since that would reveal his identity and we all know deep down that Adrien is NOT going to break the identity rule and THAT leaves all of Adriens friends with a BIG uncertainty about him.
Of course this uncertainty wouldn't automatically mean that they'd believe that Adrien would do such a thing. The show would have had to somehow set up that the class doesn't trust Adrien entirely yet...
... and would you look at THAT, that's exactly what was shown in "Félix":
Tumblr media
When Félix prentended to be Adrien and insulted all of his friends in his place not everybody of the Miraculous class reacted like Marinette and Nino.
Be careful to not misinterpret this though, they aren't behaving as if they just waited for him to reveal himself as an asshole (that's what salter do). All they are saying is that because of the limited time they get to spend with Adrien and him having 500 walls up per minute, they feel like they simply can't say that this isn't something Adrien would do under certain circumstances. They just don't know him that well yet, which is... fair. Plain and simple. So with this being said-
ENTER LILA BEING THAT FUCKING BITCH.
We already know from the synopsis of the s4 finale that Lila will become the new face of Gabriels brand
Tumblr media
I don't think it'll be Lila replacing Adrien but her ALONGSIDE Adrien becoming the new face of the brand. Them a "couple" and she managed to get there because of 2 reasons:
1) This very opportunity open for her through the Adrigami break up in "Lies" and 2)
Tumblr media
This partnership of two fucking devils.
"Oni Chan" is SUCH an important episode for this theory/plot development, it literally sets up almost everything. I will go more in depth about it here (especially Adrien) because I think it's important for me to try to give you the big picture I work with, so I can refer back to this post in future.
First of all, Kagami was the akuma victim "Oni Chan" and her akumatization happened because Lila saw her as a threat.
Tumblr media
Lila only pays attention to people who she can either use or wants to get rid of and THIS here is the moment where Lila decided she wants to get rid of her, which paved the way to use Kagami now in s4 because Lilas plan in "Oni Chan" failed spectacularly! She wanted to get rid of Kagami so she doesn't get in the way of taking Adrien for herself and yet in the end she accomplished the exact opposite.
Tumblr media
Like, she deadass even got them CLOSER lol
And the reason for that is quite easy. Adrien spend the entire episode watching and learning Lilas ways because Lila arrogantly thought Adrien is too gullible and naive to not only lay solid judgment upon her but also stand up against her. Saying she didn't think he would figure her out is wrong though, because that's what she wanted him to do. Both came together with the intention to open themselves up a bit more than usual and learn about each other so they can figure the most effective way to approach the other one. Just that in Adriens case he did it to help Lila whereas Lila wanted to wrap Adrien around her little finger making him more like HER.
That's what's so interesting about "Oni-Chan", its that we see two characters in it (Adrien and Lila) who we expect to be in bad faith in for each other right from the get go just because the general narrative says so, but that is not the case. And on top of that it doesn't even END in the traditional sense, because for all it is neither of them "won".
Tumblr media
Adrien in the end is just straight up frustrated and annoyed because not only wasn't he able to figure out Lilas core problem because she keeps on deflecting from her true nature but he also learned that Lila is willing to use her... alarming behavior deliberately to hurt people.
Sure, Adrien saw more than enough cases of Lila being a problematic and definitely experienced some of those with her himself, dude is NOT oblivious to bad behavior and it's impact.
Tumblr media
But we all know Adrien, this is not where he draws the line. Adrien is a person who sees people for who they are and what they do without initially laying down judgment, but he chooses to see the good in people and rationalize the bad through their given circumstances. Our words and actions to not always accurately reflect our intentions and Adriens knows this by heart. Hence why Adrien was so open and enthusiastic towards Marinette since the beginning even though that girl couldn't get out one cohesive sentence with him. Marinette put a ton of work into her dynamic with Adrien but it didn't take only her actions to form the Adrinette friendship/romance, if Adrien didn't had the patience of a saint with Marinette they wouldn't have gotten anywhere either.
Tumblr media
And why, despite everything, those rare sweet and truly GENUINE bonding moments between Adrien and Gabriel were even possible.
Tumblr media
Adrien is well aware of his fathers bad behavior and that Gabriel often just legitimately doesn't know how to properly put his emotions into words or actions, which more often than not ends up with Gabriel being an asshole (which is where the important difference lies. Adrien is well aware that his father is one hell of a dick but the way Gabriel does it is more... casual and born from a feeling of superiority and indifference. For Adrien Gabriel doesn't cross the line because there is just no malice to witness when Gabriel pulls a Gabriel.
Which is... honestly fair, I guess? I actually never really noticed that Gabriel never shows actual villainous behavior or tendencies when he's his civilian self (in public and around Adrien. The only person where we see more of Gabriels Hawkmoth side is LILA but more on that in a bit.), he's just... an entiteled jerk and a bad father but that shouldn't automatically mean that Gabriel is a fucking power-hungry supervillain who wants to annihilate actual children. I mean he IS but I'm saying that I'm not blaming Adrien or anyone really to not make that connection til now (Marinette only really suspected him because of the Grimoire and because Fu brought up the possibility).
Adrien himself says so to Lila this very episode:
Tumblr media
This episode truly EXCELS at showing how Adrien is outright AMAZING at breaking down people's personality to the core and understands how the good and the bad in them works. In this regard Adrien is very much like his father, he understands the concept of how human emotions work and how those can result in several outcomes of taken action in specific circumstances. As you can see, it's all VERY theoretically, which of course steems from 1) Adriens isolation/ lack of experience with other people especially his age and 2) an entire life of emotional abuse from a father whose own emotional state and moral code of right and wrong is a chaotic mess of self-entitlement (Chloe as only friend doesn't help in this regard, Felix I can't imagine having been an angel and Emilie seems to have had her own behavior/ emotional issues concidering what Adrien sometimes sees as normal in a romantic relationship)
This of course resulted in Adrien not being able to properly use this emotional intelligence so he can judge accordingly and actually ACT upon it. Which is the problem Adrien mostly had in s1-s3 and had/has to learn to properly overcome. Which is ALSO something we get to see starting to get resolved in the end of the episode.
Tumblr media
Because not only did Lilas plan to get rid of Kagami not work out, basically EVRY manipulation Lila pulled on Adrien in the entire episode just straight up FAILED in the end.
And Lila is left standing dumbfounded because the entire end conversation between them Adrien is looking right true her bullshit and keeps shit real. Non of her methods worked out on him and she is getting nowhere. In fact, she made negative progress with Adrien that day she just doesn't quite know WHY (since she doesn't know yet that he's Chat Noir. As I already said neither of them really won this episode, they pretty much canceled out each other's attempts quite nicely. Adrien just came out on top because he had the secret identitiy advantage, so take a guess what advantage he's gonna loose soon?).
This was the first time Lilas lies truly lead her to a dead end with someone and it could have had a legitimately strong affect on her for the better if this is were the episode ended. But it didn't.
Tumblr media
Let me explain to you just how much Gabriel made things worse here by getting in contact with Lila.
Adrien told Lila "Lila you can count on me, unless you hurt the people I love", without Gabriels interférence this made Lila realize that not only is she unable to manipulate Adrien anymore with her lies but he also won't tolerate manipulating the people around him so she can get him for herself. She would have needed to be extra careful with his friends to not affect them negatively in ways Adrien would notice, which is a task pretty much impossible since she straight up wants to isolate him.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately though, Gabriel literally gave her everything she wanted in their deal. Like literally EVERYTHING and he KNOWS IT that bastard.
Which is even worse when you remember that initially it was Gabriels plan to get Lila tf AWAY FROM ADRIEN (that man actually had a normal fatherly reaction for once... )
Tumblr media
But because of Lilas using her manipulation skills to turn Oni-Chan against Ladybug Gabriel had a 180 degrees change of mind which resulted in him making Lila his personal eye on Adrien in school etc because Gabriel knows he can keep Lila around and use her when he "gives her" time and space with Adrien (.... AND HE FUCKED IT UP! GABRIEL YOU HAD ONE SOLID PARENTAL INSTINCT AND YOU BASTARDIZED IT TO HELL AND BACK!)
Tumblr media
And yet, it's interesting that in this absolutely disgusting parenting decision to use his own son as bargain for the person he saw as the shitty creeper they are earlier, SOMEHOW Adrien ISN'T the Agreste involved in this I'm 100% sure is gonna end up completely screwed over by her and at her mercy (don't get me wrong, this is going to be fucking AWFUL for Adrien but at least HE knows Lila is his enemy, Gabriel doesn't)
Gabriel let's Lila have time and space with Adrien so he can use her to his advantage against Ladybug and yet Lila is fully intending on using HIM to get to Adrien. Gabriel is literally 100% unaware that Adrien is deadass the only person in the show now who can actually properly handle Lila which means SHE needs to get creative.
Tumblr media
Like BRUH, this man is comically underestimating his son here and Lila is COUNTING ON IT. She knows she can't isolate Adrien anymore on her own because he is protective of his loved ones, so what better way to get Adrien than to have one of his loved one do it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabriel is basically the dark mirror of Adrien in this scene. He, just like his son, can easily see through Lilas charade and is fully aware that Lila is twisting and turning Adriens situation to ridiculous degrees just so she can get what she wants while telling him exactly what she thinks he wants to hear. And she thought right...she just didnt know WHY this worked so well on him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both of them have the same goal: isolate Adrien from influences they don't like. As if Gabriel isn't aware that he is stopping Adrien from spending time with his friends, it's no secret that Gabriel thinks the Miraculous class is mostly a bad influence on Adrien (especially Nino) because he can't control how their behavior influences him, which means Adrien becomes less controllable to him. Nothing too drastic has happened at this point but it quickly followed in episodes like "Party Crasher" for example.
Tumblr media
So having Lila actively try to seperate Adrien from the others so SHE is mostly around him is exactly to Gabriels liking, because he approves of her since she is useful to him and knows she wants to stay on his good side so he believes she won't try to influence Adrien to go against his rules but to comply to them.
Tumblr media
To the audience it is obvious but Gabriel has honestly no fucking idea who he just let into his life and it will bite him in his ass in the future. He just assumes she is satisfied when he "gives her Adrien" because he sees Adrien as uncomplicated bargain. She won't make him any trouble since she already has what she wants, right?
Yeaaah, nah Gabe, you've got a huge storm coming buddy. Getting Adrien is still her destination and YOU are her ticket, in more ways than you would ever expect.
Tumblr media
_____
Okay with all of this looming information being said let's talk about a topic I'm outright eagerly waiting for in Canon: the wrong people finding out about Adrien being Chat Noir.
Season 4 pulls up alot of completely new stuff and story directions so predicting how things will play out is most of the time not possible. Still for season 4 there were always 3 people I expected to find out about Adriens secret: Gabriel, Nathalie and Lila (not gonna lie I still kinda expect the Gorilla to just straight up always having known ever since "Copycat" in season 1, but let's not talk about that.)
Since this post is mostly about Lilas upcoming role with Adrien forgive me for not elaborating much on how I think Gabriel and Nathalie will find out. Both of these need their own posts for me to talk about. Important is that I think that this time around Nathalie isn't going to tell Gabriel about Adriens secret the way she did in "Chat Blanc"
Tumblr media
instead Lila is gonna fill in that role now, as Gabriel makes her keep an eye on Adrien for him. So its either Nathalie or Lila who will find out first but Gabriel definitely last.
The way Lila finds out about Adriens secret identitiy is forshadowed in "Oni Chan" as well. Besides setting up the episodes conflict by merely BEING IN ADRIENS ROOM and reacting to Adrigamis fencing photo by taking her own photo with Adrien, there seems to be a confusing variety of actual purpose for Lilas actions there when you look at it only from the episodes perspective. But in the grand scheme? Now that's something else.
There are 4 major things Lila takes interest/finds in Adriens room:
1) The picture of Adriens mother Emilie
Tumblr media
2) the loads of cheese for Plagg
Tumblr media
3) the hidden pictures of Ladybug
Tumblr media
And 4) Adriens fencing picture of him and Kagami.
Tumblr media
Obviously some of these things directly influence Lilas actions in the episode. Her seeing the fencing picture is only there for plot purposes so she has a reason to prey on Kagami here and in the future "make Adrien seem like a cheater" plot-line. The Ladybug picture influences her motivation to use Oni-Chan against Ladybug, as Lila sees both girls as threat (Ladybug now more than ever).
Tumblr media
But Emilies picture and Plaggs cheese have basically no reason to be focused on here, so their inclusion is set up for future events. And if Lila becomes suspicious of these two aspects then the other two will follow quickly, because Chat Noir having feelings for Ladybug isn't exactly a secret and Lila was THERE when Chat gave Kagami Adriens rose back and picked her up to bring her home instead of pounding it with Ladybug (This sounds so wrong, do we have another phrase for this? xD).
Tumblr media
I'm not saying all of this makes it totally obvious that Adrien is Chat Noir and Lila is just gonna wake up one day and has it figured out. Of course it isn't. But what I mean is that through these informations she gathered here it really only takes ONE incident of Bad luck and she's got it. We already saw in "Mr pigeon 72" that Adrien takes the loads of cheese for Plagg with him outside (and remember that episode had the Adrigami break up as one of its themes)
Tumblr media
Lila wasn't in that episode, but she will be in future ones. Who says she won't find another bag of Adrien at one point and in the same episode she happens to overhear Chat Noir giving Plagg cheese while being detransformed somewhere close to the bag but before she can face him she is stopped by Ladybug who saw her sneeking around, reminding her that Adrien has a fondness for LB as well. That's literally all it would take and if you wanna do it properly then make it another episode about Kagami and Marinette bonding over the Adrigami breakup and you've got the jackpot (this is just an example, I'm not saying this is what's going to happen)
Besides that PLAGG is the one pointing out to Adrien that Lila is going through his stuff and does so in a tone that makes it crystal clear to the audience that her doing so is not only respectless but DANGEROUS as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because when Adrien responds that he isn't bothered by it because Plagg does it as well Plagg answers that he only does it to find his cheese, an answer that tells us that Plagg DOES respect Adriens privacy and doesn't abuse his privilege to be allowed to go through Adriens stuff.
Tumblr media
In direct parallel Plagg points out that HE may only be after his cheese but they have no idea what the hell Lila is looking for, which is why she shouldn't be allowed to have the same privilege.
Which leads to the directly implied point that it's okay for Plagg because he already KNOWS what he is looking for. It's the cheese of which he knows it's only there because Adrien brings it along for HIM. So Adrien can transform into CHAT NOIR. Lila may have ignored the cheese here and would do so in favor of finding something else in Adriens bag one or two times again, but at some point the cheese (and the AMOUNTS) in particular is just SUSPICIOUS, especially when you have no idea what it's purpose is. Her reaction to the cheese shows it perfectly actually:
Tumblr media
She was immediately negatively taken back by the odd amount of cheese but choose to ignore it, which is immediately followed by Plagg being VERY serious. Direct visual connection that the cheese isn't just a joke in this scenes context but it's relation to Plagg and why Adrien HAS IT in the first place is important as well. There is no way it'll stay without pay off (I can't believe how much I just talked about the fucking CHEESE out of all things).
For Emilies picture im honestly not sure yet why exactly Lila needed to see it regarding ADRIEN, but what I am VERY sure of is that there is a solid, SOLID chance that Lila will not only figure out Adriens identity but Gabriels as well, since she is in my opinien the future evil butterfly holder
Tumblr media
which means that OBVIOUSLY Lila is gonna need a way to turn the tables in her favor in Gabriels and her deal to overthrow him later on (in season 5 though not now). How she will do it could possibly happen through Emilies photo in Hawkmoths miraculous
Tumblr media
Thought I forgot about that huh?
(Oh fuck it im calling it yall. There will be an upcoming episode where Kagami is akumatized again because she and Marinette realized that Adrien didn't stood her up for his friends and Lila took her chance to make it "known" that Adrien was with HER. In the same episode Lila will find out that Adrien is Chat Noir and Gabriel is Hawkmoth. For Adrien something will happen like I proposed above and then confronts him at the end starting to blackmail him and for Gabriel she will find it out in the akuma battle. "Sentibubbler" made a point by saying that Ladybug could have taken ShadowMoths miraculous in battle, so in the episode im proposing Ladybug takes this issue to heart and manages to knock off ShadowMoths butterfly miraculous, leaving him only with the peacock.
The butterfly falls down, Lila finds it and sees Emilies picture inside. She recognizes Adriens mother from his computer screen and knows now that Gabriel is Hawkmoth. She pockets the miraculous and brings it to Gabriel after he looses another battle, making it known that she is aware of his identity but let's him believe that she won't use this knowledge against him. She rises up becoming his partner and gets the fox Miraculous for herself at one point (because that situation is gonna escalate as well, but since everyone is only keeping an eye out for Shadowmoth to not find out about Alya, it makes her incredibly vunerable to being discovered and tricked in their civilian life. Lila for example, still has the fake fox necklace. It would be a SHAME if these two were EVER to get mixed up huh?) making Lila a direct Alya parallel where the fox has replaced the main partner on both sides of the war, making Chat Noir and Mayura once again parallels as well (because no fucking way in hell is the Gabenath situation gonna end well. Gabriel has become way to power-hungry and detached from reality to NOT let the bedridden and a-bit-too-motherly-towards-Adrien Nathalie/Mayura fall like a hot potato in favor of Lila who is just IMMENSELY useful to him (I'm sorry to everyone who legitimately ships Gabenath but I just don't see them having a positive fate. This topic DEFINITELY needs its own post).
.... I'm legitimately concerned rn because what I'm saying here is honestly not far-fetched at all. God damnit...)
....
....
What the HELL was I talking about before I got sidetracked with the plot idea?
Ah yes, Lila figuring out that Adrien is Chat Noir with which she will then be able to blackmail him to play along as her boyfriend to a certain degree.
This would stop Adrien effectively from letting the others know that Lila is saying BULLSHIT and that he ISN'T a cheater. Especially when Lila threatens to tell GABRIEL, not because he is Hawkmoth (that's just the absolutely terrifying cherry on top), but because Gabriel, just as Adriens father alone, can make his sons life HELL for having accepted the ring and basically going against Gabriels orders each and every day. I mean it, Gabriel could and would punish Adrien HARSHLY in so. many. ways. No need to be a magical terrorist to be a horrifying villain in this show (I could easily see this being the incident where we see Gabriel hit Adrien for the first time for real, normally we only see it in Miraculous mode so it "doesn't count". But where it DID count was in "Chat Blanc" where both Father and Son knew about each others secret and Gabriel just straight up hit him. People rightfully call this moment kinda out of nowhere, because even though Gabriel one day escalating with Adrien like that has very much already been set up since at least "the collector" (more to this on THIS POST) but I agree that we never got to see the actual transition phase in Blanc's case where Gabriel became "comfortable" with hitting his own son. That's because "Chat Blanc" was an episode set in the future so this change in Gabriel happened in the time skip, but now we actively witness the time skip in real time (just with slightly changed events) which means there is a solid chance that we will see another scene of Gabriel crossing one more line of no return (my Jackady post explaining when Gabriel crossed the first line of no return).)
Combine this with the very fact that Lila has it out for Marinette/Ladybug in particular because of Adriens special fondness for the "two" girls and you've got a LEGITIMATELY fucked up blackmail situation. In "Ladybug" for example Lila straight up managed to get Marinette EXPELLED FROM SCHOOL and Adrien made it clear to her that this was where she crossed the last line. He won't let Lila hurt Marinette like this. Naturally the expelling was taken back by the end of the episode, thanks to ADRIEN making Lila undo her own harm.
Tumblr media
I mean, it would have been odd right? Marinette just being out of school is an idea that was never even brought up before, the closest we got to this is her struggling with balancing school and hero work in "Jackady" where she gets grounded. But besides the balancing struggles every here and there (which she is effectively solving over time) we get nothing indicating the up coming threat of loosing her place in school. Especially because she is class president and continuesly becomes better at this job as well, so it would completely disrupt the grand picture the show has built up for her in a really ineffective and badly written way. So yeah... is not gonna happen.
Yall know where I'm getting at with all of this, so let's just call it out as it is: Lila getting Marinette expelled for a short time in "Ladybug" is hardcore Forshadowing for her getting ADRIEN expelled in s4 for real.
Do I.. even have to explain how Adrien being taken out of school has been built up since forever?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nathalies is once again from “Oni-Chan” itself. Or how it just PERFECTLY fits into Adriens isolation arc in season 4, a goal both Gabriel and Lila are after and Ladybug unknowingly helps in? I think we are all on the same page here, because Fandom is actually doing a REALLY good job pointing all of this out. So I'm calling it, Adrien will take the fall for Marinette near the end of the season and will be taken out of school for it. Because of these two assholes and their pact in "Oni-Chan":
Tumblr media
But that's not all. Don't forget about Nino who Lila already often preys on as well to get to Adrien, which once again was included in "Oni-Chan" (which nicely aligns with Gabriels dislike of Nino)
Tumblr media
Or Ninos little brother Chris straight up being the future akuma victim she gained trust of in "TimeTagger"
Tumblr media
And Kagami, of whom I already explained how Lila will hurt to take advantage of Adrien.
Tumblr media
And just in general we know from several, SEVERAL incidents that Lila is able to manipulate large masses now, including most everyone in the Miraculous class. It's a fucking disaster just waiting to escalate in all its messed up glory and I'm kinda here for it tbh
___
"But what about Marinette?", I hear you ask. "Surely she would NEVER believe that Adrien would fall for Lila, she would do anything to find out the truth and help the others see it as well!"
And yes, you are right. Under the normal status quo the show run on in s1-s3 that's definitely what she would have done, but now we are in season 4 and we reap what has been planted for 3 seasons to have it escalate this very finale (im so excited yall! It's actually happening the way I thought it would, more on that in the future!).
It all comes down to her really one-sided moral role in "Oni Chan", where unlike her Chaton she didn't learn anything new about Lila that episode which left her in a solid disadvantage in "Ladybug". She was merely validated in her belief that Lila is evil and a liar through and through, that she simply projected the lesson Chat Noir "learned" that day onto Adrien even though she had no actual reason to make that assumption about her crush.
Tumblr media
Meaning plain and simple that, when Lila is gonna make Adrien look like he cheated on Kagami with her, Marinette is gonna realize that the reason why she thought he would NEVER get tricked by Lila is actually completely baseless. She just assumed it because of her experience with Chat Noir in that Akuma fight.
But let's take this a bit further, shall we? Because no way Marinette would believe Adrien to be a cheater if she'd get to talk to him, since Adrien would try his HARDEST to let Marinette understand that this entire situation is messed up and did he mean for any this to happen he just can't explain because his hands are tied! And even if he wouldn't be able to 100% convince Marinette she still would hold onto his side of the story because Marinette wouldn't only seek him out for Kagamis sake but also because she herself would feel betrayed since she thought that even if Lila can manipulate everyone else against her she would always have Adrien on her side (that's literally the take away from "Chameleon").
Imagine how confused, heartbroken and betrayed Marinette is gonna feel when she realizes that her having lost Adrien to Lila in such an AWFUL way (him cheating on her dear friend Kagami) might actually be reality now.
And now remember another interesting part of the synopsis of the s4 finale, because the worst parts of this I've yet to tell you!
Tumblr media
I believe every aspect of this entire mess is gonna come together in the finale leaving Marinette and Adrien as desperate and defeated as never before. Every time til now when Marinette tried to confess her love to Adrien either she ended up being to afraid to do it or something else nullified her attempts. But not this time, shes actually gonna confess and it's gonna end in a fucking disaster.
As the synopsis says, the bravery to confess her love Marinette will get because she thinks Adrien will leave Paris with Lila, which BTW was already forshadowed once with Lila herself in “Volpina” and then again in "Animaestro" only there she feared Adrien would leave with Kagami instead of Lila (its almost like all of this was planned by the writers lol).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This fear of him disappearing combined with her feelings of confusion and betrayal is 100% going to have her confess to Adrien. Well, how unfortunate that I don't think Adrien is actually going to be ADRIEN in this situation. You see, there is another piece of shit in Adriens life out to get him (at this point one could almost believe that Adrien is CURSED huh? ;D Like a certain Felix Chat Noir in the Pv Miraculous, which is also incorporated into our current show. I'm just sayiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing) and this particular piece of shit is not only the reason why Adriens friends doubted him in the Shits introduction episode, he is also well aware that Marinette is in love with Adrien.
Tumblr media
I’m SO convinced that Lila and Felix are gonna team up this season and that Felix posing as Adrien and stealing his life is gonna come back big time. He has the same character model for hells sake! Besides that its still unclear how much Felix knows about their family, obviously Amilie knows about Gabriel being Hawkmoth but “Felix” neither comfirmed nor denied Felix knowing it as well. You can make solid arguments for both sides and depending on what will turn out to be true Felix will accordingly be dangerous as well. Then there is the simple fact that Felix was straight up the original Chat Noir before he was replaced with Adrien in 2012 and Felix is shown to be a great “magician” in his introduction even managing to steal Gabriels ring right of his damn finger! I’m just saying, this might happen again with a different ring lol.
But now back to Felix teaming up with Lila to hurt both Adrien and Marinette.
Look me into my damn non-existent virtual eyes and tell me, if given the chance, Felix WOULDN'T utterly break Marinettes heart while posing as Adrien. If it means he can completely WRECK his cousins remaining friendships and reputation he would gleefully make Marinettes nightmare come true.
Speaking of NIGHTMARE! :D
Say, what was Marinettes nightmare in "Sandboy" again, regarding Adrien?
Tumblr media

Ah yeeeeeeees, there we are. I'm gonna quote @pari5-in-the-rain post about this because they NAILED IT.
“Chat Noir was afraid that Ladybug hated him all along and would never love him, a sign of his insecurity.
Marinette was afraid Adrien would fall in love with Chloe and start acting like Chloe, who is someone Marinette cant be, nor ever wants to be, which is a conflict of being true to yourself and values vs. being with the one you love. Marinette was afraid of Adrien becoming the person she hates the most, and as a result, not being able to love him anymore”
Felix posing as Adrien breaking Marinettes heart in the finale would DEFINITELY turn Adrien into her nightmare in her eyes. He would become a person SHE HATES and while this is already heartbreaking and horrible enough for Marinette (as Lila and Felix would want it) the synopsis mentions one more thing:
Marinette revealing herself to be Ladybug to Adrien.
Now in season 4 “Adrien” turning out to be against her and a horrible traitor after she had revealed her Ladybug secret to him in her love confession would completely put her over the edge because of ONE reason in particular:
Tumblr media
"Sentibubbler" confirmed to us that Chat Blanc is one of Marinettes greatest nightmares and while her methods unknowingly hurt him more than do him good right now, she is LEGITIMATELY scared that this could happen again to Chat Noir. Now remember, what was the event which Marinette thinks caused Chat akumatization to be set in motion?
Tumblr media
Thats right, Marinette is convinced that ADRIEN figured out her identity and told someone else which started a domino effect until everybody knew her secret (especially Chat Noir) and Hawkmoth was able to akumatize Chat because of their love.
In "Chat Blanc" she said this without any kind of malice or hard feelings against Adrien, because Marinette has a strong habit of not wanting Adrien to be at fault for anything bad, so in her eyes Adrien only spilled her secret identitiy because he got overwhelmed with that knowledge and just couldn't keep it to himself because SHE wasn't there to talk and explain everything to him. This is also why Marinette concidered revealing herself to Adrien in "Optigami", even though Chat Blanc is still not letting her go. Because in that case she would have been right with him and prevented him from telling anyone.
But all of this would take a horrible, HORRIBLE turn with Félix in the finale. Because Marinette would have revealed herself to "Adrien" just to find out that he played and tricked her all along. He was always on Lilas side, only pretended to be friendly and forgiving and everything that makes Adrien ADRIEN. And then and there “Adrien” taunts her for giving up this information for him and that he bets that his girlfriend Lila would certainly LOVE to know this. And who knows where her secret could "accidentally" end up with, concidering his popularity? (If Felix truly knows that Gabriel is Hawkmoth than he could just straight up imply this here CAN YOU IMAGINE?? Marinette thinking Adrien was working for Hawkmoth all along??? After everything that happened??? And that he DELIBERATLY made her secret public in “Chat Blanc” and would do so again here?????) But it shouldn't matter right? Cause the Miraculous Ladybug will always win in the end, no matter how big the disadvantage. So he doesn't have to be careful, now does he? What's the worst that could happen?
Marinettes brain:
Tumblr media
(Gif from @dailymlgifs)
Aaaaaaaaaah everything just fit together so god damn well, it's a disastrous angsty FEAST! And I'm DIGGING IT!
Félix making Marinettes Nightmadrien become reality completes the Ladynoir fallout which is more and more turning Ladybug into Nightmarebug for Adrien. And just like him Ladybug will NOT get a chance to set things right with her Chaton before everything goes to hell in the finale.
Tumblr media
It's just like Hawkmoth said in his epilog line in "Oblivio", the episode where we, for a short time, were able to see how easy and wonderful reality could be without the secret identities. A reality sadly not meant to be our star-crossed lovers destiny:

You don't have to read further, I'm just gonna do some real talk about this in my native language.
Alsoooooooo

The Last Dragon
Below the read more I've posted 7 very small sections of a fic that is based on this beautiful and tragic fanvid. I got literal chills watching it. If you wanna sob over our queen and her son wanting to avenge his mother, give it a watch.
I don't think I'll ever go any further, as my writing had an unfortunate run in with a brick wall, which then toppled over it and crushed any urge to write the next bit.
It's not too terrible--though it could actually be total shit, I'm not known for my writing 😂--and it was just gonna gather dust on my laptop, so figured I might as well post it. This was one of my ways of dealing with that fucked up last season within the framework of the show. I dont believe this is Dany's end, and I loathe with every fiber of my being what happened to her and her found family. And after seeing that video, the idea of Drogon doing everything he could to avenge the mother he loved more than anything appealed to that anger inside me. So I'll understand if this isnt for everyone ❤
Chapter 1
Mother.
He flies, great black wings carrying them away.
Mother.
Sharp, massive claws curl in gently. Protectively.
Mother is gone.
The cold creeps, burning against his scales the way fire never has.
Mother don’t leave.
A whisper on the wind calls to him.
Mother it hurts.
East, it sighs. It smells of smoke, and fire. Hope.
He follows, wings beating faster.
They took you.
The rage flares, searing away the cold.
They killed you.
The heat of it bursts within him, scaled skin shaking with the strength of it.
Fire and blood.
Jaws stretch wide, and the air burns red with grief.
▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪
Chapter 2
The sky bleeds red from the dying sun when Drogon reaches Volantis. The whisper that drew him there stops as he lands on an open balcony.
A woman stands before him, black hair and red robes flying up in the gust of wind from his wings. His claw gently opens, Mother’s cold body slowly sliding onto the hard stone.
Crimson, mournful eyes watch the red woman kneel by Mother, pale fingers hovering over her, not touching, for a long moment.
“I cannot bring her back, Drogon,” she murmurs, regretful.
He throws his head back, bellows fury and sadness into the sky. No, Mother, come back. I am alone.
A faint brush at the back of his mind--where Mother used to be, his brothers, the thoughts they shared together--grasps his attention. Makes him look back down at the red woman.
“I cannot give you back Daenerys Targaryen, but I can give you something else.”
His nostrils flair, and his head moves closer.
“I can give you the revenge you desire. As it stands, you may be able to raze the whole of the Seven Kingdoms, turn it all to ash, but that would not be what your mother wanted.”
Drogon growls, lips pulled up in a snarl. Sheep. All are sheep. Betrayed Mother. Killed Mother. No mercy.
She nods her head. Comprehends what he is unable to say out loud.
“Yes, they all betrayed Daenerys, took from her and killed her when her visions grew too great for their small minds. They could not grasp that the Mother of Dragons was above all a breaker of chains. She would have freed us all.”
She pauses, then continues, her voice hard. “They need to be punished. And they will be. But Daenerys’ dreams must be realized. Dragon’s Bay must remain free. The Dothraki cannot return to what they were, raping and pillaging. And the petty lords of Westeros must be laid low. Those who destroyed Daenerys must see their reigns come to an end not only by dragon fire, but by the unification of the people they have ground into the dust, unified against them.”
“A dragon has the power to do great things, but to lead men, to lead armies, that is the one thing you cannot do, Drogon. Not as you are. You must be more. And by the Lord of Light’s grace, you can become exactly what the people need.”
Drogon rumbles in frustration, steam billowing from between his sharp, clenched teeth. He doesn’t understand.
“Human, Drogon. You must become human.”
▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪
Chapter 3
They take Mother, to clean her, he is told. Remove the dagger, her clothes. Wash the blood away.
The red woman directs him to fly from the balcony, down into an open courtyard below. A large fire pit rages with a towering flame. It warms him, feels like Mother’s hand caressing his scales.
Dragons cannot cry. A mournful moan makes his great neck tremble. Human. Perhaps he can cry when he is human.
People in red robes enter the courtyard, one after another, until they circle around Drogon. His tail twitches. Their closeness agitates him.
The red woman appears, crossing the circle to stand in front of the fire. Hatred fills him when he sees what is in her hands. The dagger stained with Mother’s blood. Coward. The coward’s dagger.
“I am sorry Drogon. It is a necessary piece of the ritual. Soon,” she soothes, “you will have all you need to begin your campaign against the traitors.”
Another voice brushes against that same place in his mind. That lonely place where Mother, Rhaegal, and Viserion once lived. Soon, it too promises.
The red woman turns her head, scans the other acolytes before catching Drogon’s eyes.
“Let us begin.”
Voices hum together in chant, and the sky is filled with an agonized roar.
▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪
Chapter 4
Drogon.
He groans.
Drogon, my love.
Everything hurts.
You cannot sleep forever, my beautiful boy.
He moves his head slightly. Cringes at the sharp pain.
Wake up, Drogon.
Mother? Why does everything hurt so much?
It’s time.
The voice begins to fade. He reaches out a hand, slowly, to make it stay, and freezes. He has a hand. A human hand.
Fingers curl into his palm, and the nails scratch against his skin, bite into it. His legs scrape against the stone as he slowly stretches out one, then the other.
He can still feel the fire to the side of him; it feels heavier, pressing on his skin but it does not hurt his flesh.
What burns more painfully is the missing weight of his wings. No flight for him now.
Cold fingers brush his shoulder, curve sharply to hold him when he recoils.
“Drogon?”
He doesn’t like to be held, or touched, no one but Mother, and his brothers, but they are gone. Gone, gone, gone…
“Drogon! It is only me, Kinvara!” The voice finally penetrates, and he stops pulling away.
Allowing for her help, he rolls carefully onto his back. Sharp pebbles dig into his skin. No scales to protect him anymore.
He feels her fingers move to his face, tracing the human features. “Open your eyes Drogon. See what the Lord of Light has gifted to you.”
Gift? No gift. Just more pain. Weakness. But he opens his eyes. The fire from the pit is soothing, warm. Warmer than...before. Would it burn him? His hand flinches towards it but he’s not close enough to touch.
He turns his eyes toward Kinvara. She is smiling, eyes reflecting the fire’s light.
She waves a hand towards an acolyte. “Bring me a robe. We must cover our dragon prince.”
Red cloth is laid over him, and two other acolytes help Drogon to sit. They hold him up as the other wraps the robe around him more securely.
Drogon grits his teeth, blood rushing angry and hot.
He tries to talk, mouth struggling to form the human words. “W-We—” He growls, tries again. “W-Weak.”
“For now,” she says. “But you will grow stronger, I promise you.”
Drogon struggles to stay awake, but bone deep exhaustion pulls at him, and his frustration wanes as he slips into slumber.
▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪
Chapter 5
Four moons pass before Drogon is ready to set sail for Meereen. He was like a hatchling again, unsteady, vulnerable, and he hated it. Kinvara and her priests taught him the ways of his new body, how to eat and walk, to read their words.
Coarse fabric to wear instead of steely scales.
But now it is time. Time to search out Grey Worm. Daario. The Unsullied and Dothraki. Train with them and become stronger. Much stronger.
He knew how to fight as a dragon. Armies and castles were nothing against the heat of his fire. He must learn how to wage war as humans do.
Wrapped in a red cloak, hood hanging low over his face, Drogon is ready to begin.
▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪
Chapter 6
They are waiting for him at the dock after the sun has set, Grey Worm and Mother’s sellsword, two silent figures who do not move, do not speak until Drogon stands before them.
Daario breaks the silence first. “Drogon?”
He pulls back his hood, unnaturally crimson eyes in a human face flashing in the near dark.
Daario sucks in a breath, then huffs out a laugh. “If the red priests had not sent word ahead, I may not have believed it. But by the gods, here you stand.” He reaches out an arm for Drogon to clasp.
He does so, hesitantly, but with a firm grip. Human greetings still puzzle him.
Grey Worm steps closer then kneels, bows his head bowed, fist pressed against his chest. “Ñuha dārilaros. Bisy qringaomatan īlva dāria. Īlon emagon ossēntan se nāpāstre skoriot pōnta iōrtan (My prince. This one failed our Queen. We should have killed the traitors where they stood.).”
Drogon does not know if he is asking for forgiveness or absolution.
Dragons have no real concept of forgiveness. He should be angry the traitors were allowed to live. But Grey Worm is kin, as the little scribe had been. Mother’s old bear too, and the white-haired knight. Everyone who had been under Mother’s protection, had been under her children’s protection as well. And would continue to be.
“Rise, Grey Worm.” His voice is rough and sharp edged, and it seems to startle the two men to hear him speak. “Those that hurt Mother, that used her and took her life will be punished as they deserve. But I need your help. So rise. Let us repay them with fire and blood. For Mother. For Missandei. For them all.”
He holds out a hand, waits.
Grey Worm looks up, eyes bright with unshed tears. His lips tremble, then firm. He takes Drogon’s hand.
▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪
Chapter 7
They convene in Mother’s chambers, the map room he would never have been able to fit in before almost cavernous to him now.
Spread out around the table, the three men pull together a plan as they look down at the map.
First, they will weed out the opposition in Essos, solidify their hold in the east. Astapor, Yunkai, they will all come to heel, every slave freed. They would be as clever as Mother had been, keep the number of innocents lost as low as they could. Drogon would prefer to burn through the Good Masters, snap them up and tear them apart, but for Mother, he would be patient, and take the slower path. All the slavers would still die, and their victims would live, and live free.
But for what Drogon had planned, he needed steel in place of claws, armor instead of dragonhide. He needed Grey Worm and Daario to make him as fearsome as a human as he’d been as a dragon. And that would take time.
He ground his blunted teeth together; he hated waiting. Hated it. But let the traitors think they were safe for a while longer. It would be all the sweeter when he ripped that feeling of safety away, just as they ripped Mother away from him. His brothers. His home.
They would feel his pain. And then they would feel nothing at all.

Are We Human
Tumblr media
Fandom: Supernatural Pairing: destiel Rating: Teen A/N: Season 5 ficlet, canon-compliant
“I wanted you to see it the way I do,” Cas says in a hushed tone. “I wanted you to feel human, too.”
on A03
He hands Cas a beer because Sam is away for the night. Because he still wants to feel connected to someone.
“Come outside,” Cas says, taking the beer and walking out the door into the parking lot.
“I...okay,” Dean says, taking a swig as he follows Cas out.
He’s striding across the road, into a field across the street, out into the high grass and God knows why…
Actually, probably not. He’s been pretty quiet lately.
“What are we doing?” Dean asks when Cas finally stops, the motel faded in the distance.
Cas sighs, looking up. “Sometimes I like to be reminded,” he says quietly.
Dean looks up too, but there’s nothing but sky up there. Some clouds. There’s nothing apocalyptic or massive or winged up there. “Of what?” he asks.
“The beautiful things,” Cas murmurs. “The simple things.”
Dean barks a laugh. “Simple. Those were the fucking days.”
Castiel drops. To his knees, folds down, then tips back to lie on the ground, legs still folded under, pressed to one side. He looks messy. Fallen.
Dean follows him down without thinking. “You all right?”
“I am...tired.”
“I’m sorry.” Dean takes a drink and rubs his face. His neck. Sorry will never be enough. Castiel is cut off, cut up, because Dean asked him to be. Because Cas had believed when Dean should have known better.
He lies down in the grass and looks up.
“Orion’s Belt,” Cas tells him. Dean follows the long line of his arm, his index finger. It reminds him of that famous painting. Men on clouds, reaching out. Nearly touching. Almost, but not quite touching. Forever.
Jesus. His whole fucking life in the most dysfunctional nutshell.
Then Dean looks, finally, sees the vastness out beyond that hand, lets Cas guide him through the stars, their distances, the amount of time that has passed between the moment their light was emitted and the moment it touched their faces, met their eyes.
Dean glances over, wondering how much time it takes for light to bounce from Cas’s cheek to Dean’s eyes. How long for Cas to be seen. And if that light ever makes it back to whatever is inside that human vessel he carries around like another trench coat. Comfortable but not quite him.
Dean speaks. “You're something...different.”
Castiel looks at him, uncomprehending.
“I forget, sometimes,” Dean clarifies, and his eyes are on Orion’s shoulders now, the strong stance of him pulling back his bow. “That you’re not human.”
“Do you?” Cas sounds wistful. “I don’t. It never feels quite right.”
Dean reaches out, grabs a sleeve, a finger, a hand. It fits in a way he’s never really allowed himself to imagine.
Not with anyone.
He is a hunter. He is here to fight til his last breath. There is nothing simple or beautiful about his role. Never has been. Battle. Blood. Endings. Pain. Betrayal. Love ‘em and leave ‘em but for God’s sake (not really, He’s bullshit anyway) don’t love them. Not really. Not ever.
Love is for people with futures. People with lives. Love is for people with hope, who haven’t been to Hell and come back dead inside.
“Why did you bring me?” Dean asks. Not up. That was Heaven’s choice. More battles. More death.
But why here? Why this gentleness?
“I think this may be the most human thing I know,” Cas tells him quietly. “To feel small under the stars. To feel small but not...alone.”
Dean can do that. Be Cas’s ‘not alone.’
“I wanted you to see it the way I do,” Cas says in a hushed tone. “I wanted you to feel human, too.”
And that is somehow so much harder.
Dean’s not sure he has that in him anymore. That softer side of Sears sort of got pushed out with the pain, and then the joy of causing pain. So much to atone for and no way to do it, and humanity is sort of...like his appendix, now. Left over, but no longer useful.
His first instinct is to leave Cas in the field, looking up.
But there are fingers tangled with his. That he tangled there. He sort of owes something. Maybe.
“Any tips?” he finally asks.
Cas moves next to him. A shrug. A gulp. A shuffle. Then his head is fitting perfectly in the curve of Dean’s shoulder. “Look,” he says. “And breathe. Breathing is so...human.” He says it longingly.
Dean has looked at the sky. He’s star-gazed before. But to see the Milky Way now, knowing what he knows. Having had the soul torn out of him and then thrust back in...it’s different. Outside looking in. Something gets lost there, when you know how absent the creator behind those stars is. How useless, how careless with His creations.
Cas shows him Canis Major. Ursa Major. Traces the stars at the top to the Little Dipper.
As Dean’s eyes acclimate he sees more. Smaller lights, not so bright. Something that doesn’t look like a star.
“A satellite,” Cas tells him.
Humans have put that there. Way out there in the darkness of space. No help from God or Angels. Just human ingenuity at work.
“That?”
“Mars.”
“Really?” Sam had shown him once, and Dean has nodded and forgotten. It had seemed irrelevant at the time but suddenly it seems important. That it’s not just earth. That there’s more. That he is small, and not the one thing standing between the human race and the end of times.
Even if he is.
They lie there for a long time. Dew gathers cool on their clothes.
Dean loosens his hold on Cas’s hand when his gets sweaty and numb, and Cas shifts away.
It’s not what he meant.
Dean turns on his side and nestles in where he fits, arm to arm, head notched under chin, and Cas’s hand, the one not pinned under him, now, comes around to touch his shoulder. Pull him closer.
Dean whispers, “Am I still…”
He doesn’t finish asking because he doesn’t want to know.
Castiel touches his face, and the sensation is gently electric. Long fingers smooth the line of his cheek, eyebrow, slide back into his hair.
“Human? Of course.” Lips press into his hair. “Don’t you know?” Cas asks, hushed. “Don’t you know how perfectly flawed and stubborn and short-sighted you are?”
He says it as if this is the height of perfection. As if Dean is admirable.
Dean laughs softly. “it’s been said.”
“And don’t you know how wonderfully...human it is?”
“You hate all of that,” Dean reminds him.
Cas looks at him like he’s changed the subject. “But, I’m an...I’m not human.”
As if he doesn’t know what he is anymore.
“What a pair we make,” Dean breathes. It sounds more intimate than he intended. And Cas is much closer than he realized.
“Yes,” Cas says, and his breath is a little uneven. He inches a little bit closer. “I feel...strange,” he says at last.
“Here,” Dean offers, kissing him gently. “Better or worse?”
Cas tips his head, contemplating. “Different. Let me…” he leans in, and Dean meets him again, lips gentle and pressing and asking. Two beings in between, meeting in the middle, somewhere neither of them exactly exist.
Cas’s tongue tastes like water. Then wine. How is it possible that he still tastes pure after everything?
Dean is sure he tastes of sin and ash. That given enough time Cas will choke on him and pull away.
He doesn’t.
“Okay?” Dean asks finally, breathlessly.
“Yes. I feel...not human. But I feel like...someone.”
Dean nods. Yes. Yes, exactly.
They share breath and saliva and gasps and sensations until they’re panting, until they’re smiling and Dean isn’t thinking about fighting for once. “You are,” he says softly. “You are someone.”
“We are,” Cas corrects, and kisses him until the sun rises, and Dean feels seen by the light of the sun (eight minutes and twenty seconds old) and the new light of those blue eyes and whatever lies beneath, and he begins to see things in a new light.
Not human, perhaps. But someone.

The 100 rewatch: 4x06 We Will Rise
We’re almost at the half point of season 4, and at the point where season 4 starts getting much better. This is not one my top episodes of the season, but it’s pretty solid.
Again, we follow  three plots in three locations: drama in the severely damaged Arkadia, where a lot of angry people want to kill Ilian for destroying their hope of finding shelter from Praimfaya, while Octavia, Kane, Jaha and Monty react to this in different ways; the road trip with Clarke, Bellamy and Roan, who are on the mission to bring incredibly important barrels of hydrazine to Becca’s lab, to make it possible to go to space and synthesize Nightblood; character drama in Becca’s lab, where is Raven struggling with her mental state and trying to make the trip to space possible, with a focus on the development of relationships with Murphy and Luna. We also see how, even in the face of the imminent disaster/end of the world, people still continue with their stupid wars between clans and screw up chances for everyone to get saved.
The episode continues right where the previous one ended, during the night, as Jaha is watching Arkadia burn.  What used to be Ark is severely damaged and, while half of it can still be used as living quarters, it’s useless as a shelter from radiation. Jaha is calm and looking at the Second Dawn logo that they’ve found in the bunker. He obviously believes that there must be another bunker and that he will find it, as aAt the end of the episode, he says the Second Dawn motto “From the ashes, we will rise”,
After waking up in a bed she shared with Niylah that night, Clarke is looking at her drawing of Lexa (the one she drew in 3x06), which she has put on the wall in her room, Niylah seems completely OK with being just a temporary rebound friend with benefit for Clarke. She also starts comforting Clarke by telling her things like, Lexa lives through her, she is doing good things trying to save everyone, and Lexa also wanted unity of all etc. These lines feel really forced and weird: why is Niylah telling Clarke what Lexa would have wanted? How would she even know? She’s talking as if she had been her family member or close friend or associate. Clarke knew Lexa, while Niylah was a trader who lived far from Polis, she probably never even got to see the Commander, let alone ever talk to her. Now, it makes perfect sense to have Clarke think of Lexa, who died less than a month ago, but these references feel really forced – it feels like writers are trying a bit too hard to insert some positive references to Lexa in order to appease her fans, so they have different characters talk to Clarke about how great Lexa was (for the second episode in a row)– even if that doesn’t actually make sense for these characters, and even though it’s at the expense of Clarke’s character: Clarke was a strong leader who was trying to save everyone way before she met Lexa, and the idea of Lexa as Clarke’s moral compass doesn’t match their actual relationship (if anything, it was the opposite – and Lexa’s decision in the days leading up to her death, to stop the cycle of violence which everyone now seems to admire her for, as something she did at Clarke’s suggestion and that everyone around her ascribed to Clarke’s influence). By comparison, I don’t have any problem with the show’s mentions of Lexa post-season 4, which have been much more faithful to what actually happened in season 2b and 3a.
But disregarding the actual lines, what strikes me most about the scene is that Niylah’s general attitude and especially the way she talks to Clarke come off as almost…motherly, which is, obviously, weird. But I guess Clarke, at the moment, just needs someone caring and undemanding to give her comfort, human touch and some casual sex, without asking anything from her. I don’t think she is at the emotional state, at this point, for a real romantic relationship with anyone – and who can blame her, after how tragic her love life has been? Stronger feelings are dangerous and can lead to pain and loss. But she does care about Niylah enough to make sure she has a good chance of surviving, so she tells her to stay in Arkadia so she would be sure to be among the people who got the Nightblood treatment early. Niylah has been surprisingly chill about the way Clarke broke her trust in 3x11, but I guess she’s generally not a person who holds grudges, and her feelings for Clarke were probably more like an infatuation with a celebrity, without any expectations of a real relationship. Oddly enough, this is just the fourth time that Clarke has had sex with anyone, as far as we know (and Niylah is the one person she’s had sex with twice –due to circumstances, she only got to have sex once with each of her romantic partners, Finn and Lexa), and the last time in all 5+ seasons so far (what with the whole, being stuck on a deserted planet with a child and a radio as only companions for 6 years thing).
Before leaving on her mission, Clarke has a nice talk with Kane, her unofficial stepfather, about Abby’s upcoming mission, since Clarke is going to see her mother, while Kane is staying in Arkadia to make sure everything is fine. They even hug, and this is one of the very few times that we see these characters interacting one on one.
Surprise, surprise, there are again hostilities between Azgeda and Trikru have again. Roan’s army is returning from Arkadia, but they found the time to burn Trikru villages on their way which Roan apparently hasn’t done anything to stop. Bellamy brings it up, but Roan just shuts him up with “That’s funny, coming from you”, Because, apparently, “You did bad things in the past you feel sorry for, this justifies the crap I’m doing right now” is such a great argument?
Bellamy goes to check out on Octavia, who’s in the med bay, and tries to have a normal conversation and tell her that he he thought she was dead, but Octavia is still doing her “I hate you and cannot forgive you” thing, now with less physical violence but in an even more dramatic fashion, telling him that “Octavia is dead” and blaming him for it, saying she died “when you killed Lincoln”. Huh, so that’s the story now, she’s somehow decided that he killed Lincoln? And she also tells him that the fact he is her brother is only reason she hasn’t killed him.
Ilian is also in med bay, after being beaten up by an angry mob, which only left after Kane threatened them with a gun and made them leave. (The scene made Niylah exclaim: ‘We’re not so different after all” – probably referring to the fact that Sky people really are just another clan who believe in ‘Blood must have blood’ just like those she knows.) Now he’s surrounded by guards, but the angry mob is assembling and listening to the speech of a man who seems to be their leader. Angry mobs often get to be the antagonist in this show, but it’s nice to see that, for once, we get to see their point of view and humanize them. The man blames Ilian for the fact that his five year old son will not have a shelter from radiation, and he also clearly has a wrong idea about Ilian’s motives, believing that destroying Arkadia was a hate crime targeting Sky people. They aren’t aware that he was in fact on a tech-destroying rampage caused by ALIE-related trauma and clueless about the consequences.
On the other hand, Octavia knows, but doesn’t care. When Ilian says he didn’t mean to hurt anyone, and that he didn’t kill anyone, she points out that he kind of has killed them all, and adds some dramatic dark lines such as “The sword doesn’t care what you meant, it just cuts”. She doesn’t seem really angry over Arkadia or looking for revenge – like in Polis, she is in her dark state of mind and uses violence as a way to unload or numb her pain. Later, when the mob comes to kill Ilian, and his guards conveniently leave, Octavia tells their leader that they can beat him up, but she gets to kill him. The first time I watched season 4, my first thought about her relationship with Ilian in this episode was “oh god, she’s found a new punching bag”. She can beat the crap out of Bellamy, but she won’t kill him because he’s her brother, but she can kill Ilian. It was one of the bigger surprises of this season when this relationship later turned to something more positive.
Earlier, Monty tried to prevent the lynching, by talking to Jaha to convince him to intervene. He mentions the time when they lynched Murphy for supposedly killing Wells - Jaha is clearly upset by another mention of his son’s death – and, as Jaha seems reluctant to intervene, says his son would be ashamed of him, but Jaha is in fact planning to get involved. When the mob goes after Ilian,  Kane again does his best to stop them, pulling a gun again against the mob, but David Miller knocks him out, maybe worried that it could end with Kane dead or injured, or Kane shooting into the crowd. However, Jaha gets the crowd to leave by alarming them falsely about supposed radioactive rain (“black rain”), but Octavia is still there, and about to kill Ilian. Monty tries to talk her down, telling her: “You are not a murderer” – which is a bad tactic that doesn’t succeed, because she is a murderer. I don’t know how much Monty knows about her recent actions. But Kane finds a way to get to her – by pointing the obvious parallel between Lincoln’s death and what she’s about to do with Ilian. The parallel is really obvious, it may a bit too on the nose parallels - Ilian is on his knees and tied up, at the same place Lincoln was when Pike shot him. Octavia finally has a strong emotion about what she has become,  throws away the gun, and runs away crying, leaving Arkadia to go roam around, while Kane is calling after her. He lets Ilian go.
Meanwhile, Clarke, Bellamy and Roan are on their road trip/mission with three of Roan’s men and barrels of hydrazine that need to be delivered in exactly that quantity. Roan gets to show his snarky side in this episode and has something almost like a buddy cop dynamic with both Bellamy and Clarke.
The convoy runs into some Trikru people who had been attacked by Azgeda, and ask Clarke to help an injured old man. She st ops to try to save him, but chaos ensues as a child sees Roan and three other Azgeda warriors in the back of the truck. Trikru and Azgeda have been at war, in spite of officially being a part of the same coalition, pretty much all the time, and Sky people have found themselves awkwardly on various sides of that conflict.
They separate at one point when Roan and Bellamy are in a rover while Clarke is with the three Azgeda guys and the cargo, but they lose radio contact with her and go back, only to find out that someone has disappeared with a cargo. Hydrazine can be used to build bombs, and they think Trikru stole the cargo to build bombs against Azgeda. There is a dead body wrapped in a cloth, and there’s a moment when Bellamy thinks the dead body is Clarke, before seeing it is Roan’s right hand man. It turns out that the two of Roan’s men killed the third one and stole the barrels to use it for weapons. There’s a fight and Roan has a superhero slow-motion shot when he jumps from one car to another and then fights one of the traitors.
They take the cargo back, but then it turns out that one of the barrels got pierced by a Trikru arrow, which means disaster – they won’t have enough hydrazine to go to space.
But before they find that out in a cliffhanger ending, there are some nice character moments. At one point, while it’s just Roan and Bellamy in a rover and Clarke is not there, Roan tells Bellamy that everyone is doing things for their people, except maybe Clarke – she is the only one trying to save everyone. That’s interesting, because he claimed the exact opposite an episode ago when he talked to Clarke, but he was bullshitting that time. Maybe he is sincere this time.
Clarke and Roan also have a friendly moment where Clarke tells Roan he’s a good king, and Roan has a “what is it all for” moment where he wonders if things will always be like that even if they are saved – if everyone will just continue killing each other. Well, that’s one of the big themes of the show.
Just a note: Bellamy has been feeling guilty and trying to redeem himself for 1.5 seasons for participating in the killing of 300 Trikru warriors that was ordered by Pike, and everyone is constantly reminding him of that. But Roan ordered his warriors to kill a bunch of Trikru warriors without warning just one or two days ago, and now hasn’t made any attempts to stop them from attacking Trikru villages. He may be ruminating about the cycle of violence, but he doesn’t seem to feel guilty, Clarke calls him a good king, and no one ever talks about it, not in the show and not in the fandom. This double standard is in line with how the show usually operates. In general, protagonists get the harshest treatment on The 100 and are always feeling guilty and getting called out on anything bad they do, and have to redeem themselves all the time. Clarke is the main character, so she gets that the most, and Bellamy gets that a lot, too, but supporting characters mostly don't. Currently, there is a lot of anger in the fandom because of the way Clarke is being treated at the start of season 6 by the narrative and other characters, but many people think it’s because Jason Rothenberg favors Echo over Clarke – when really, it’s because main characters like Clarke and Bellamy, and now Octavia, are important enough to have a story; the show focuses on them and their arcs, we see them feeling guilty and making efforts to make amends. But supporting characters get far less attention and story/development (e.g. we don't see much of Echo's development because she's mostly been a plot device and hasn't gotten much story of her own).
Bellamy and Clarke get another beach scene with a meaningful moment, before they separate, as they usually do at least once a season (this time, Clarke is going to help Abby and bring the hydrazine, and Bellamy is returning to Arkadia). Similarly to the night beach scene in 3x13, Bellamy confides in Clarke about his problems with Octavia, how she keeps treating him badly but he keeps coming back trying to change her mind. He calls himself pathetic. Clarke again tries to comfort him, telling him Octavia will change her mind. But the way she talks to him makes it seem like she’s talking about something else, not his relationship with Octavia. She tells him “she’ll see how special you are” – which doesn’t even sound like something she’d really say about his sister. I kind of think that characters talking about how “special” someone is, is kind of a trite line, but that line has been used a few times    Lexa said it about Clarke in season 3, and Clarke said it about Lexa in 3x14. Hmm, interesting, people have just used it to talk about those they were in love with. But let’s not assume too much, maybe this scene was meant to be about platonic friendship and nothing more… in which case, it failed really badly at that, since Clarke is very obviously checking out Bellamy while telling him “how special you are”. (Either that or… I don’t know? Did she suddenly decide to carefully inspect the combat gear he’s always wearing, and had to look it up and down just in that moment?) Then there’s a teasing moment where Bellamy starts telling Clarke something important, prefacing it with “If I don’t see you again,,” but Clarke cuts him off, saying he will, because she refuses to even think about the possibility of goodbye. Then they got interrupted by Roan, with the important news, so Bellamy never gets to finish. Fans have naturally speculated a lot as to what he was about to tell her. Contrary to some opinions, I don’t think he meant to say something too obviously romantic – not at that point, because I don’t think he was ready to go into that direction any more than Clarke was, while he was so consumed with the drama with his sister, and just a couple of weeks after he heard Clarke say she loved Lexa. I think he was going to tell her something similar to what Clarke told him in 4x13 – something about how much she meant to him. This scene was paralleled with the one in 4x13, where Clarke started telling Bellamy something important and led with “If something happens to me”, and Bellamy cut her off the same way, because he couldn’t bear the idea that she may die. Only that time, they were not interrupted again and she could finish.
In Becca’s lab, Raven is angry and desperate, because all her attempts at creating conditions for a successful launch into space keep failing, and the simulation shows that everyone would die. Meanwhile, Murphy is making sarcastic comments, as always, but Raven gets furious and starts telling him he is the worst, in a really harsh way.
Luna comforts Raven in what is a strangely intimate scene for two people who have only known each other for a couple of days at most, singing her a song, and then tries to comfort Murphy, explaining that Raven is saying those things just because of her deteriorating mental state, This is Luna at her best – the Luna that is caring, compassionate, and a pacifist. Murphy thinks Raven really hates him, because he crippled her. As usual, he has some fun sarcastic comments, such as “You are the new Raven-sitter” (after Sinclair. I guess). Luna tells him that he can find peace, since even she has managed to find it – in spite of having been raised to be a killed, and having killed her own brother. Sadly, in four episodes, or just a few days in-universe, it will turn out that she hasn’t actually made peace – just tried to convince herself of it. Luna says she wouldn’t like to be the last person on Earth, and Murphy sarcastically replies that it seems like a good prospect. The irony here is off the charts – Murphy is saying those cynical, nihilistic things as a defense mechanisms, but Luna is the one who will eventually try to make it happen.
Murphy trying to learn Grounder speech is the funniest thing: somehow a sentence Luna said (“I give myself to the miracle of the sea”) became something that would mean “I creep on myself for the miracle of horny mistake”.
Raven eventually finds the solution, somewhat helped remark by Luna, but the news about the lost barrel of hydrazine means it’s pointless (or at least it seems that way right now), and she has another seizure.
Timeline: This episode starts shortly after the end of 4x05, during the night, and takes place on the day after. In 4x02, it was 9 days since the beginning of season 4, 4x03 was a day or maybe 2 after, 4x04 not long after (since they decided at the end of 4x03 to go to Becca’s lab – a day after, tops), so this should be taking place about two weeks after the start of season 4.
Body count:
Old Trikru man, who died after being injured by Azgeda during their attack on one of the villages
Azgeda warrior Seiku and two guards from Arkadia, killed by the Azgeda traitors
The two Azgeda traitors, one stabbed by Roan, the other shot by Bellamy
Rating: 8/10

Thoughts on the Chinese DotA Animated Series, The Tower Will Go On, and its two main characters
Tumblr media
It’s been five years since this animated series based on Warcraft 3 Dota was made. The fan forum is still alive, and it’s amazing to witness the fan dedication to this work, in the form of essays, debates and even a ridiculously detailed second-by-second analysis of the opening theme.
But I barely got a glimpse of those essays before they were removed, apparently to be scrutinized by their internet police for objectionable content. The series itself has also been taken off all China websites, such that China’s fans themselves can’t watch them even if they wanted to revisit. Which makes me so glad that I have all the episodes in HD.
Anyway, on to the show itself. It’s divided into two parts:
Season One is about Crystal Maiden forming her rag-tag team of Radiant/Sentinel heroes. It’s light-hearted and full of jokes. The heroes die a lot and revive at the fountain every time. Sniper’s death count reaches above 300 at one point.
Season Two (titled Death for the Reborn) is darker as the team clashes with the Dire/Scourge and the war intensifies. The plot gets more complicated with internal factions, spying and conspiracies. The rules change: the river that revives dead heroes gets corrupted, so deaths are permanent.
One’s reaction to this show would likely be: “No! This isn’t Dota. This isn’t Invoker at all! What travesty is this?!”
But first, let’s consider these two things:
Firstly, the story is set in the game map. All hero skills and items stay faithful to the game. There is no ‘lore’ to speak of, as this series came out before Valve took over Dota. During that period, ownership of Dota was attributed to Ice Frog, who’s referenced in episode 2.
Tumblr media
Eul’s Scepter in the show
Tumblr media
Old Eul’s Scepter in Dota 1
Secondly, it’s fan-made. And as with all fan creations, anything’s possible.
For example,
It’s possible for Bloodseeker to be gay with a jungle creep(centaur) and foster a baby centaur.
Tumblr media
Bloodseeker X Jungle Centaur in the show
Tumblr media
Old Strygwyr in Dota 1
It’s possible for a carry to be so fed, he’s ten times the size of another:
Tumblr media
Daddy Doom and his Little QuoP
Love it or hate it, this fan tribute to Dota is in a class of its own. It’s entertained me for hours, made me laugh, sigh, cringe, think; it was one hell of a nostalgic ride back to Warcraft Dota days. And it will always have a special place in my heart.
And now, on to the main characters…
Tumblr media
The protagonist - a tribute to Support Heroes
‘Little Ice’ (China’s pet name for Crystal Maiden) is a fan-service kind of character whose appeal is mostly sexual and emotional. I won’t talk much about her but I won’t write her off completely either.
So Little Ice starts off with a dream to rise above her destiny as a position 5 support. She’s left her team carry (Dragon Knight) as she resents him for being overbearing and overly task-oriented. (It’s unclear what’s the relationship between the two, though they hug a couple of times). She tries to carve a career for herself, forming her own rag-tag team. But reality is a wet blanket, and like her role in the game, her impact on the story is limited and she ends up having her heart broken several times.
Tumblr media
Old Crystal Maiden from Warcraft 3 Dota
In the show, she is depicted as a klutz with a bad sense of direction and is sometimes impulsive, casting Freezing Field at the most ridiculous, anti-climactic moment and generally doing stuff that would be considered ‘bad decision making’ in the game.
Tumblr media
But despite her limitations, the girl has a mind of her own. She stands firm in her beliefs and is courageous enough to try to protect her male teammates. Even when said teammate is the Dragon Knight being bashed up by Roshan.
Tumblr media
She is also fiercely loyal, refusing to abandon the dying Bristleback and instead managing to persuade DK to risk a Roshan fight to get the Aegis.
Overall, I’d say her character serves two purposes here: as a shoutout to under-appreciated Support players, and as a symbol of innocence. This trait of hers is seen as a weakness and is used to comical effect, yet, at the same time it is also something to be prized and guarded. The Queen of Pain (portrayed as a man-hater with lesbian tendencies) mocks her several times for her naivety, yet she admits that CM represents the innocence that she’s lost and that she needs to protect.
From Zero to (Anti) Hero
The central character, Kael (pronounced Ka-er, I’ll refer to him as Carl since it matches the Chinese pronunciation) appears in the second episode and drives the entire story with his zero to anti-hero arc. The title of Season Two refers to him being reborn from the ashes (he was Doomed and almost killed in a fire). He is the only one besides QoP to have a backstory (both underwent the trauma of having their entire homeland and families destroyed).
Tumblr media
Invoker from Warcraft 3 Dota
Tumblr media
Invoker from Season One of the show
Tumblr media
Invoker from Season Two
While this Invoker is as OOC as he can get, there’s no denying the detail that has been put into his design. For example, in Season 2 his orbs are actually faces, perhaps representing the connection of Invoker’s volatile temperament to his elemental powers.
Just as the two parts of the show are divided into a dichotomy of light and dark, there are two different depictions of Invoker in each part.
Season One Invoker
If you’ve ever played this hero, Season One will remind you of how it felt the very first time you tried him in a game. Clueless, powerless, the butt of your teammates’ jokes perhaps.
Carl first appears in episode two quoting that famous line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It sounds really pretentious (not that surprising for Carl), but considering that Hamlet killed someone by accident in the play, it’s also a kind of foreshadowing of what will happen later on.
So Carl is introduced as a depressed guy trying to hang himself. In a comically tragic manner, he tells his story as a former prince who lost his home, sought refuge with the Dire/Scourge but is constantly scorned for being useless as he hasn’t figured out his spells.
With a background like that, who wouldn’t be damaged for life? But CM sees him as even more vulnerable than her, and he brings out the encouraging and protective side of her. Of course, the naive part of her ignores the fact that he is a defector from the enemy side.
Carl is of course extremely grateful, having found the acceptance he’s always longed for, and one can see the beginning of a pure, somewhat platonic love between the two.
Tumblr media
In China, Invoker/CM are almost regarded as canon pairing, with roots going back to Kael’thas/Jaina from Warcraft.
Initially, she brings out the good qualities in him, such as courage and self-sacrifice. Noob Carl is actually quite lovable, even willing to take one for the team by ‘donating’ blood to the Bloodseeker. He forges a strong friendship with the gang and they have a lot of fun fending off their one enemy in Season One.
Although he’s harmless at this point, his uselessness repeatedly emphasized by all characters, there are glimpses of his more complicated self, such as when he uses his knowledge and cunning to get the team out of trouble. More foreshadowing of who he is to become is given by the Queen of Pain, who tries in vain to warn CM about his potential for evil.
Meteoric Rise to Power
Two events serve as catalysts to the awakening of his powers. First there’s the excessively bloody whipping that Queen of Pain gives him, just because she feels like it. This happens in the middle of a team fight and in his state of desperation, it is his thoughts of CM (whose nickname is literally, Little Ice Ice) that unlocks his first skill, Ghostwalk. At the same time, the sinister side of him awakens as he turns the tables on the Queen and blinds her in one eye before burying her alive.
And then he gets punished by Doom, who’s rather high up in the hierarchy here. Doom (whom everyone calls ‘Daddy’) is furious to find out that his beloved god-daughter, his Little QuoP has been hurt. He finds out about this in an interesting manner - by devouring the jungle centaur that witnessed the incident.
Tumblr media
Doom: WHO ATE THE COOKIES?
Tiny, CM, etc: (keeps quiet)
Doom: Very well, I shall find out the truth (devours jungle creep).
(everyone watches on nervously)
Doom: …CARL!
Carl: Yes Daddy?
Doom: How dare you eat my cookies!
Carl: I don’t get what you’re talking about, Daddy
Doom: You’ll get THIS, you little shit.
Season Two Invoker
After being doomed and running into the forest in agony, Carl goes missing for a while. A flashback later shows Dazzle’s saved him and bandaged him up like a mummy. By chance, Windranger finds him when her Powershot arrow accidentally hits him. Probably out of guilt, she brings him home and cares for him for three months. When Ogre Magi harasses WR and sets her house on fire, Carl rises from the ashes with a complete makeover, a costume change, full mastery of magic and a marked change in personality. The change feels really abrupt and I’d have preferred something more gradual. But the writers probably wanted a striking contrast between the two seasons.
So he helps her fend off the Ogre and she falls in love with him. But he stays true to CM.
Tumblr media
Despite what this shot in the opening theme suggests, WR doesn’t force herself on him. She’s really cool.
In Season Two, Carl’s personality becomes much more conflicted, longing to return to CM yet afraid to endanger her with Doom hot on his heels. While she thinks about him in her quiet moments, he watches over her in invisible form. The next triggering event is when the Dragon Knight beats him to rushing to CM’s rescue. He is consumed by jealousy and the fire element comes to the forefront. From then on, his emotional instability deteriorates further, and with some goading from Dazzle, he forms a plan to destroy DK with Ancient Apparition’s Ice Blast dealing the killing blow.
Tumblr media
However that plan goes tragically wrong when his old friend Bristleback walks into the Sunstrike spot. One mistake leads to another, and he ends up killing QuoP as well. That confrontation between the two is one of the most dramatic scenes I’ve ever seen. When the Queen threatens to reveal his bad deeds to CM, he starts grovelling and begging her for forgiveness, but it turns out it’s all an act allowing him to get close to her for a tornado. Despite the cringeyness there is a special kind of satisfaction in seeing one’s favourite video game character display the whole range of emotions, just as it’s satisfying seeing him perform the whole shebang of spells after being abused for the first ten episodes.
Carl’s final move is one that completely breaks CM’s heart. He steals the Aegis meant for saving Bristleback’s life. However, his motivation isn’t very clear and was the topic of much debate and speculation among the Chinese fans at that time. But going by his character’s trajectory, it’s highly likely he’s doing it for self-preservation. After all, Doom’s absolutely livid that he’s killed QuoP and the Aegis is his only chance at standing against Big Daddy Doom. But the ending leaves questions unanswered. Now that he’s pissed off both sides, what’s to become of him? Is his character totally irredeemable? How will the war end? Season Three was supposed to be in the works, but never materialized.

Lonely Road
The LONELY ROAD
False and True Worship- NRSV Isa. 58
Shout out, do not hold back!     Lift up your voice like a trumpet! Announce to my people their rebellion,     to the house of Jacob their sins. 2 Yet day after day they seek me     and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness     and did not forsake the ordinance of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments,     they delight to draw near to God. 3 “Why do we fast, but you do not see?     Why humble ourselves, but you do not notice?” Look, you serve your own interest on your fast day,     and oppress all your workers. 4 Look, you fast only to quarrel and to fight     and to strike with a wicked fist. Such fasting as you do today     will not make your voice heard on high. 5 Is such the fast that I choose,     a day to humble oneself? Is it to bow down the head like a bulrush,     and to lie in sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast,     a day acceptable to the Lord?
6 Is not this the fast that I choose:     to loose the bonds of injustice,     to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free,     and to break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,     and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them,     and not to hide yourself from your own kin? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,     and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator[a] shall go before you,     the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;     you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am.
If you remove the yoke from among you,     the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, 10 if you offer your food to the hungry     and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness     and your gloom be like the noonday. 11 The Lord will guide you continually,     and satisfy your needs in parched places,     and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden,     like a spring of water,     whose waters never fail. 12 Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;     you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach,     the restorer of streets to live in.
13 If you refrain from trampling the sabbath,     from pursuing your own interests on my holy day; if you call the sabbath a delight     and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways,     serving your own interests, or pursuing your own affairs;[b] 14 then you shall take delight in the Lord,     and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of your ancestor Jacob,     for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
---------------------------------
I was an associate pastor in my first parish, after seminary, in a large church in St. Louis. My youth group was primarily Black and Hispanic.  One night we traveled downtown to hang out around the Arch. It was dark. I walked around for a few minutes alone and returned and the police had them lined up until I came forward;  Several years ago I was in another town, not far from San Francisco, around midnight with four Hispanic friends. At MacDonald's the police pulled us over, questioned us for an hour, making sure none of my friends were undocumented or using their vulgar words "illegal", all were citizens; Late one night in another county I left a friend's house at midnight, and my Hispanic friend was pulling his school books out of the car before I headed home, six cars of police swarmed my van. They stated there had been robberies in the neighborhood and the van looked suspicious, as well as my friend and I. I let them search the van from top to bottom, and stood by a police car, and finding nothing they simply drove away. In all three incidents, racism is apparent, we can not hide from that fact.
I dare to say if my friends had been white, we would not have been noticed.
We need to look within ourselves and see racism in our acts, I mean all of us black, brown, white, red blue, whatever color for there is racism in all of us. We need to work at rooting out racism from every core of our being.
Ramadan began yesterday and will end on May 12. Ramadan is a sacred season of looking inward, at our wrongs and bring forth what our lives can do. Dorthy Day reflected: "Love is a harsh and dreadful thing: because it demands so much both of us givers and receivers," and Isaiah 58 is asking the question "Have we abdicated this practice of love in looking at our inner self, and to address what is going on in our family, community and the world.?"
Fasting is for us to enter into ourselves, in order to come out for justice. Fasting calls us to self-denial, to sacrifice our own physical needs in order to focus and look at our lives. Food dominates our lives, I have seen people murdered for food, leaving food behind, let's us see our inner needs, and the needs of others.
Jesus sets the example for us in his forty days of fasting which were a time of reflection and decision and how he was going to embody his next steps, looking at his ego, ambitions, and clarifying his call.
A gentleman walk with me last night and asked the question: "How can we solve homelessness?" My answer is to fast, to look within ourselves, and to see the need for the transformation of society, for each of us to witness to the incoming kingdom through our actions. Isaiah. Jesus, and Mohammed, tell us the solution for each of us to is practice mercy, to feed the homeless, to clothe the naked, to bury the dead, to comfort those who are in pain, to afflict the comfortable.
It is a long and lonely road to walk outside our comfortable sanctuary and embody the Gospel fully. We are called to be counter-cultural.
I practice the fasting of Ramadan, meet on zoom in community with six Muslim friends where we share both words from both our sacred books together, and talk of how we are going to witness more in the community.
Fasting roots us in the One to whom we belong and calls us together in the inner connected body of Christ: Deo Gratias! Thanks be to God!

Star Trek: Discovery's 'Choose Your Pain' Finally Feels Like Star Trek; Season 1 Episode 5
“Meanwhile, other officers rise to the challenge. Stamets uses himself as a guinea pig to test his human-based spore drive idea. Culber makes his position known and advocates strongly for doing the right thing, telling the Commander the futility of attempting to de-hibernate the tardigrade. And Saru, initially so unsure of himself that he had the computer monitor his decisions to stack them up against the computer's 20/20 hindsight, recognizes the value that others bring, and realizes the greatest thing of all from being in a position of power: the ability to learn from your experience to do better as time goes on. For the first time, we've had an episode of Discovery where the entire crew can be proud of themselves.”
Star Trek has always been a way for us to look at the best and worst aspects of humanity, often through our confrontations with alien races. Different aspects of our fears, our personalities, and our sense of ethics play out on the stage of futuristic science fiction. Our frailties are exposed, and the crew is challenged to rise to the occasion, and to demonstrate the best of humanity, often in the worst situations. For the first time in five chances, Star Trek: Discovery at last succeeds in the latest episode, ‘Choose Your Pain.’ The tardigrade responsible for the spore drive starts to degrade, but the crew refuses to let it die, despite it putting the Captain’s life and even their own lives at risk. The Captain is captured by the Klingons, but acts in the best interest of his captured cellmate, Lieutenant Ash Tyler (from the Shenzou!), putting his own life at greater risk. Saru, the first officer, confronts his leadership shortcomings, and is pleased to be humbled and learn a lesson. And perhaps most impressively, Burnham follows orders, even when she knows she’s right and her superiors are wrong.
It’s not a massive payoff, but it’s a very big step in the right direction, and it gives me hope for the next installment of Star Trek: Discovery. Come get the review, and the science, of the latest episode today!

Round two of the “Hold My Beer” Great Meta Scavenger Hunt
For this, our honorary Misha Collins figure and Scavenger Hunt queen @elizabethrobertajones has asked us to rank all 12 season openers OR all 11 (12 if you are feeling super ambitious) season finales by a theme, character, concept etc of your choice.
I figured I might as well make this super difficult for myself and go with three D’s for my theme. Being Doom, Death and Destiel. I’m also picking finales over openers because, well finales usually have more of the three D’s in general. Doom is based on how bad the situation is for the world at the end of the episode, Death is based on the deaths in the episode and the emotional punch of those deaths, and destiel is based on how much destiel (or the ground work for destiel) there actually is in the episode. I’ll give each episode a ranking out of 10 for each ‘D’ and then average it out for my final scale… and try not to be intimidated at adding maths into a meta post. Ha.
I should apologise for submitting this so late, but Lizzy did stress there was no real deadline and I have always been terrible at deadlines anyway.
Under the cut as this is loooonnngggg. Enjoy. :)
Season 1, episode 22.
DOOM – John is possessed by Azazel, but he gets over it, Azazel gets away, and the Winchester’s get pretty upset about this. Meg gets exorcised though so actually doom wise there is less of a threat by episode end than there has been all season. Azazel is on the loose but the Winchesters still have the colt. Very little doom. 1/10.
DEATH – Ah to remember the days when the Winchesters actually cared about the meat suits the demons possessed… Oh how things change. Meg is exorcised and the actual human Meg dies of her injuries (did the demon just keep using the name of the girl it possessed? That one always confused me) John almost kills Dean but doesn’t and marks the first in a long line of people in this season who overcome possession to save Dean thanks to their undying love for him (and yet the boy still thinks he is worthless). Big car crash at the end leaves us with a cliff hanger wondering if the Winchester’s are dead but its such a normal way to try to kill them that we all know it aint gonna stick. 3/10 for attempting to scare the audience into thinking the Winchesters can be killed by a TRUCK. Pfft.
DESTIEL - I miss Cas. Did I mention I’m a Cas girl and think his presence makes this series infinitely better?! Still, what we do get in this episode is a Dean who admits that he lies and Azazel mocking Dean’s personality as always hiding the truth, the pain… etc… So we start to get some good insight into Dean’s character, we know by this episode that Dean hides A LOT and puts on a performance all the time. We know that the tough guy macho image he tries to portray is in no way near the real him. But I’m scraping the barrel so it still only gets 1/10 for the barest glimpses into Dean’s true self and the hint that he is hiding a lot more.
Season 2, episode 22.
DOOM – One dead yellowed eyed demon, one demon deal for Dean and a whole lot of evil unleashed upon the world. We got some good levels of doom here, even if Azazel is gone. At least John Winchester managed to crawl out of hell and disappear off… somewhere… do we ever find out what happened to John Winchester’s soul? Maybe he decided to hang around on earth haunting some poor unsuspecting bystander. For that reason and all other reasons above, I’m ranking this a 4/10. They were still just ordinary demons that were unleashed after all… and that was a weird sentence to write.
DEATH – Well, that was emotional. We get some pretty stirring speeches from Dean over poor Sam’s corpse, but he comes back. Of course. So it doesn’t really count unless we are counting deaths for emotional impact rather than if they STAY dead. Dean shoots Azazel in a very therapeutic moment for him, and also threw his own life away to save his brother. Also this made me chuckle: “Dad brought me back, Bobby. I'm not even supposed to be here.” Oh Dean. You’ll get used to it. Happens all the time. I’m also adding a point for the death of Ash last episode because damn. I liked Ash. Besides, technically this was a two parter. 6/10 for emotional impact and because they finally killed the bad guy.
DESTIEL – Well, there isn’t much I can really say as one half of this love pairing isn’t even here yet. But, on Dean’s side we are getting more and more hints into his now glaringly obvious bisexuality. I’m using 2x21 here because as said above, this is a two parter. Dean identifies Ash by his watch which tells an interesting story (I’m not gonna get into the Dean x Ash stuff here and instead direct you here for that glorious analysis) and also we got Lily who was a Dean mirror who lost everything thanks to Azazels influence (like Dean at episode end) and lost her life because of her inability to accept the situation she was in (like Dean at the end of this episode). So, for that reason I’m rating this a 2/10.
Season 3, episode 16
DOOM – Not so much in terms of doom this episode, Lilith was already out and doing her thing, We all still think Ruby is a good guy, the world is no more broken than it has been all season. 3/10
DEATH – Oh Dean. As Dickens would say he is as dead as a door-nail, and then go on about why a door-nail was considered a good simile for death. Perhaps the Horseman Death could answer that question, but I digress. Dean is dead, and Sam is very sad, and there is seemingly no hope now that Dean is strung up in hell. Sad times. This was probably my favourite death of the entire series, simply because it was still early enough for us to actually believe it. How on earth was Dean supposed to come back from this? His soul is literally strung up in hell. Therefore, 9/10 for an epic death scene.
DESTIEL – Still no Cas, and very little in terms of bi-dean analysis unfortunately. I’m giving it half a point for the eager anticipation of Dean’s hell rescue though and the wealth of fanfiction that came from that… 0.5/10.
Season 4, episode 22
DOOM – So much doom! (for the time – nowadays Lucifer just leaves us feeling kinda meh) The release of Lucifer! The breaking of the 66 Seals! The angels are up to no good! It’s the apocalypse! AHHHHHH DOOM ALL THE DOOM! END OF THE WORLD DOOM!!! For that reason I am marking it 10/10 doom wise.
DEATH – Bye bye Ruby. You were a manipulative bitch and I loved you. Hated the way you died though. Never like the idea of having a woman held back by a man whilst another man stabs her… it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth regardless of whether she was demonic or not. Also bye bye Lilith. Your death was actually pretty cool. You went out laughing. BUT NO! Not CAS! Cue Castiel’s first death scene and let me tell you it was explosive. Heh. Sorry. Basically 4 seasons in and this was my FAVOURITE season finale so far. Yeah so no Winchester brother died, but Castiel stole her hearts from his very first scene and having to watch him die after getting our hopes up like that was just cruel. It was emotional, especially the way he died for DEAN. Because of DEAN and… well I’ll get on to that. 8/10 on the Death rating.
DESTIEL – HERE WE GO FINALLY. So who started shipping destiel at THIS point? I was a late bloomer (a 6x20 shipper) but I was picking up on things here and on my many many re--watches of this episode I find it impossible not to see the whole scene in the green room as overly romantic. We had major heart eyes from our star crossed lovers, we had epic speeches about choice and freedom and humanity, we had one fallen angel statue and one soon to be fallen very real hunky angel man, we had Dean getting bodily pressed into a wall by said hunky angel man in a very erotic display of power and disobedience. Basically every DeanCas scene in this entire episode had me drooling. It ended with Cas giving everything for the man he lo- liked a lot, I mean pfft… its not like giving up everything you’ve ever believed in and fought for and known your entire long existence for one guy is a big deal or anything… right? Totally platonic right? I’m rating this one as an 9/10 on the destiel scale… I’m not quite sure another season finale can come close… top marks are reserves for an actual canon love confession.
Season 5, episode 22
DOOM – Well. What can I say about Swan Song? The apocalypse was stopped, Lucifer defeated, the horseman put in their place, Death off eating pizza in another galaxy… it all turned out okay doom-wise. The episode packs a big punch, but its an emotional punch rather than a “WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE” punch, so actually, this finale is quite understated when you rank it against the rest. Low doom score. 5/10 doom.
DEATH – Death is rampant in this episode, but he’s getting sloppy because it doesn’t stick. Sam sacrifices himself for the world. It’s emotional. Bobby dies, Castiel dies, Dean nearly dies, Adam dies, Michael and Lucifer get thrown in the cage, lots of death but none of it stays dead! Come episode end all the folks that matter are alive and walking around topside like it’s no big deal. But it still gets points for ending on a mystery and for Dean still believing his brother is dead and being all sad about it and for the audience being all worried because WHAT IS WRONG WITH SAM? But he still isn’t dead. 7/10 for Death.
DESTIEL – I’ll be honest with you all. I think Swan Song is totally overrated. I prefer Lucifer Rising. Like waaaay prefer it. I’m biased of course because of Destiel. In this episode there were a few moments. Dean saying “Aww, Ain’t he a little angel” when Cas is asleep in the back seat is one of them, The car ride at the end. Dean’s pain is evident at everything he has lost but his need for Cas right then, to me at least, is obvious. He just couldn’t bring him to ask Cas to stay, so Cas left. It is a sad ending that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. 5/10 for destiel.
Season 6, episode 22
DOOM – Well, this is what happens when you bottle up your feelings rather than confessing your undying love for someone. Oh Cas. Why couldn’t you just TELL HIM THE TRUTH! The absorbed purgatory souls turn Castiel into a crazy power hungry God and it is very very bad. Well, if you are homophobic, or republican, or a member of the KKK… or basically Donald Trump and therefore all of the above…otherwise honestly, Godstiel really wasn’t all that bad. We could probably do with a Godstiel in our world about now… *Oh gosh shhh now that’s a terrible thought I totally don’t wish that on anyone…ahem.* So I’m giving it a low doom score. Bring Godstiel to our universe 2k17. He will sort shit out. 5/10
DEATH – I am still mourning Balthazar. This one hurts hard because he doesn’t ever come back. L Also Raphael but really I didn’t care. He needed to remove the stick from up his ass anyway. 8/10 because Balthazar won’t be forgotten.
DESTIEL – In the afterglow of 6x20, we suddenly have our destiel goggles glued to our faces and it only makes this episode so much worse. They are actually in post break up hell here and Castiel has completely lost his way. Dean’s heart break is clear to see, and his line “I know there's a lot of bad water under the bridge, but we were family once. I'd have died for you. I almost did a few times. So if that means anything to you... Please. I've lost Lisa, I've lost Ben, and now I've lost Sam. Don't make me lose you too.” Makes me shed a tear. For all the break up trauma 7/10.
Season 7, episode 23
DOOM – Season 7, the world went to hell, Leviathans wanted to eat us (well mostly America but I assume some of them travelled overseas to annoy the Europeans…) But in the end Cas stepped up and helped save the day. Dick was vanquished and although leviathans still roamed the earth they are apparently useless without their leader. So doom levels are fairly standard. Kevin was abducted by Crowley and his minions though and Dean and Cas zapped to purgatory where they will have to face all kinds of DOOM. So on a worldwide scale not a lot of doom, on a personal level for our characters? Lots of doom. 7/10 to average it out.
DEATH – We say goodbye to the Leviathan King and with him goes all the dick jokes of season 7. It’s probably a good thing to be honest. That many dick jokes should not be allowed in one season. We also say goodbye to Bobby’s ghost. It was emotional. I still wish Bobby had never died. L Technically not a death so much as a ‘moving into the light’ moment, it still struck a chord. Other than that we also have a sort of death for Dean and Cas getting sent to purgatory though since they are still together we shouldn’t really be counting it. Death rating is 6/10 and that’s all mainly for Bobby.
DESTIEL – Ah 7x23 was good on the destiel front. ‘Tis the episode where Castiel turned up naked, covered in bees… kinky. It’s the episode where Cas was Dean’s “Boyfriend first” and of course, the episode of “I’d rather have you, cursed or not.” We got longing looks and confessions of forgiveness and basically it was great. 8/10
Season 8, episode 23
DOOM – The Angels are falling! Hell is still open for business! Metatron is a massive dick and I am in tears by the end of the episode every. Single. Time. I’m not even getting into it more than that. This is my favourite season finale. I love every second of it. Doom wise it’s pretty epic 8/10 doom score
DEATH – OH NO SAM DON’T YOU SPEAK LIKE THAT! L Poor Sammy. Seriously though this was HEARTBREAKING and even though Sam doesn’t die he is in a pretty awful state by episode end and it was so fucking emotional I can’t even deal with it. Hence a death score of 6/10 because SAaaaaaaaammmmmmmmm.
DESTIEL – “This is it? E.T. goes home?” The cupids bow, the two gruff men falling in love right in front of a confused and amazed Dean, the cupids bow on the TV shooting at both Dean and Cas? The arrows in the back of the Impala. The climax of the angel fall spell and the one of these is not the same as the others ingredients theory. Us meta writers screaming at our TV screens because it ALL adds up to destiel. It ALL points to Cas being in love with Dean. I love this episode. 8/10 for all the symbolism and Dean’s utterly romantic and longing looks at Cas in the bar.
Season 9, episode 23
DOOM – Does Dean being a demon count as death or doom here? Both? Both is good. Dean Winchester unleashed as a freshly born knight of hell. That doesn’t sound good for the fate of the world in all honesty. However, heaven is basically sorted and Metatron has been put behind bars so this episode doesn’t leave us in such an apocalyptic state as previous season finales have. Therefore it gets a doom score of 5/10.
DEATH – Oh Dean. Why did you follow Crowley. Why did you take that mark? Why did you think you could face Metatron when he was all powered up on tablet? Simply put “I’m proud of us” and Cas’ face when Metatron shows him the angel blade covered in Dean’s blood. Those two moments alone give this a high score in the emotional stakes that mean a Winchester has once again dramatically died in a season finale. It loses two marks for the black eyes since once again right out of the Princess Bride Dean was only mostly dead. 8/10
DESTIEL – I have one thing and one thing only to say right here “He’s in love… with humanity”. Cue a million fangirls all over the world screaming at their TV/Computer screens at that very dramatic pause. Thanks Metatron. I didn’t know Dean had a new nickname. 7/10.
Season 10, episode 23
DOOM – Thanks to Winchester toxic co-dependency we have a primordial chaos goddess on the loose, intent on nothing but absolute universal destruction according to Death. So yeah, pretty much the ultimate DOOM. Since this episode was just a whole barrel of WTF I’m marking it down 2 points. Because I’m bitter. So sue me. Otherwise 8/10.
DEATH – Again with the whatthefuckery. YOU CAN’T KILL DEATH DEAN THAT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. This was NOT a Death I was willing to accept and I still am not willing to accept it a season and a half later. Death is fucking with you Winchesters so he can jump out at you both and give you a fucking heart attack later on. You would probably both deserve it. 5/10. Not happy.
DESTIEL – So after the horrifying end to 10x22 with the brutal reverse crypt scene, Dean is haunted with guilt over what he did to Cas, but it is no homo’d to the max thanks to Rudy or whatever the fuck his name was I didn’t even bother to look it up or re-watch (did I mention I really didn’t like this episode – except for Death) I suppose I’ll give it a point for Dean’s dream in the deleted scene and a point for the flash of Dean in the mirror (fuck you Rudy I’ll pretend you weren’t there) and a point for Cas’ “Everyone loves something” about Rowena because yes Cas we know you are in love with Dean that was practically established canon in 9x23. It gets a 3/10. I hated this episode.
Season 11, episode 23
DOOM – In a Supernatural first, we get a relatively happy, healthy ending to the big bad story. Dean gives Amara and Chuck some sibling counselling and they go off to spend some quality time together. In a big twist, Amara thanks Dean by giving him “what he needs” which turns out to be Mary Winchester. Human. Alive. Still in the white nightgown she burned in. At the same time, Sam gets taken out by a posh British lady from the men of letters. There is, amazingly, no real doom for the world and only a slight threat for Sam. 3/10 because I care about our beautiful moose baby and his doom matters to me.
DEATH – None. Zilch. Not a single character dies in this finale and this is a shocker. It’s also really satisfying. One formally dead person actually comes BACK. This is probably the most hopeful positive season finale we have ever had on the show. Impressive really. Sam’s unknown threat at the end gives it 1 point. Even though we all know that Sam isn’t dead. He may be in somewhat doom, but he definitely isn’t dead. 1/10
DESTIEL – My heart breaks for Cas all throughout this season and it wasn’t quite the satisfying resolution we were hoping for. Still, the beer run car scene was therapeutic in a way. Though Dean calling Cas a brother got mixed reviews. Some calling it “the end of destiel” which I think is incredibly over dramatic. I prefer to linger on Cas’ utter disappointment at being called a brother. Since, as I have previously mentioned, Season 9 pretty much canonically established Cas’ romantic love for Dean. However, the hug at the graveyard and the “I could go with you” bump up the points for this episode. Cas’ whole demeanour throughout screams of heartbreak and no one can possibly deny his devotion and love right now. I just wanna see more return from Dean on this. 6/10 for the mixed reviews.
Season 12, episode 23
Hasn’t aired yet, so I am totally making this up based on season themes and the mid season finale. Following Season 11’s breaking the spell of DEATH OR DOOM in the season finales, I reckon Season 12 will follow this trend and will not unleash a new bad evil or apocalyptic event OR kill anyone off in a tragic Death scene. Instead, Season 12 looks to be heading down the route of addressing the past, resolving the issues and dealing with smaller conflicts in general. Where Death is concerned, other than ‘bad guys’ I do not think we will get a major death in this finale. So far I do not see that foreshadowing for either brother… or for Castiel or Crowley at this point. Times change but I’m keeping optimistic. So to continue our theme:
DOOM – I doubt it. I don’t think the show will go ‘big’ again before they decide to end and therefore the themes and disaster storylines will be kept more subtle. Perhaps we could get some larger threat from the Grand Coven, or from the British Men of Letters… But lets just say I doubt that we will be unleashing Cthulhu any time soon! 5/10 for potential threats from human/witch groups but no apocalyptic disasters that I can see.
DEATH – Again I doubt it, Dabb broke the constant pattern spn had in place of an alternation between death and doom over season finales with season 11. I am expecting something completely different for the season 12 ending that will be unexpected in a different way (the way Mary was unexpected in season 11). The four main characters won’t get killed off and the supporting cast is unlikely to die in a finale. Perhaps a couple of BMOL will perish… I’m predicting a 4/10 on the Death scale.
DESTIEL – I’m gonna be super hopeful here. We have two episodes (possibly three) in the second half devoted to exploring Castiel as a character. Dabb has always been a Cas fan and we KNOW as I have mentioned before, that one of Cas’ defining characteristics at this point is his utter devotion and love for Dean. I am also hopeful that Dean’s pining story arc that started with the confessional scene in 10x16 will continue and reach a sort of climax in season 12. Therefore, I am gonna give this a rating of 8/10. I expect progress. I don’t expect a straight up confessional, I dont expect a kiss. I would LIKE textual confirmation that Dean is bisexual at some point this season. I would also like textual confirmation of Castiel’s love for Dean. Something like another angel or Crowley or Sam maybe just straight up saying “You’re in love with him aren’t you?” and Cas just sighing and nodding. Yeah. That’s all I want. I don’t think its asking for much.
Okay so the final averaged scores for DOOM, DEATH and DESTIEL are:
1x22 – 2/10
2x22 – 4/10
3x16 – 4/10
4x22 – 9/10
5x22 – 6/10
6x22 – 7/10
7x22 – 7/10
8x23 – 7/10
9x23 – 7/10
10x23 – 5/10
11x23 – 3/10
12x23 – 5/10
Which according to my own odd analysis, makes season 4 the best all around season finale of the show.
*Goes and lies down for days because that took far too much brain power*
*Eagerly anticipates next challenge*

Tuesday: Reflection on the Twenty-forth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Roman Catholic Proper 24 Revised Common Lectionary Proper 19
Complementary Hebrew Scripture from The Twelve Prophets: Jonah 3
The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying, “Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days’ walk across. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's walk. And he cried out, “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth.
When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. Then he had a proclamation made in Nineveh: “By the decree of the king and his nobles: No human being or animal, no herd or flock, shall taste anything. They shall not feed, nor shall they drink water. Human beings and animals shall be covered with sackcloth, and they shall cry mightily to God. All shall turn from their evil ways and from the violence that is in their hands. Who knows? God may relent and change his mind; he may turn from his fierce anger, so that we do not perish.”
When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it.
Semi-continuous Hebrew Scripture from the Latter Prophets: Jeremiah 5:18-31
But even in those days, says the Lord, I will not make a full end of you. And when your people say, “Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?” you shall say to them, “As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve strangers in a land that is not yours.”
Declare this in the house of Jacob,  proclaim it in Judah: Hear this, O foolish and senseless people,  who have eyes, but do not see,  who have ears, but do not hear. Do you not fear me? says the Lord;  Do you not tremble before me? I placed the sand as a boundary for the sea,  a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail,  though they roar, they cannot pass over it. But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart;  they have turned aside and gone away. They do not say in their hearts,  “Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season,  the autumn rain and the spring rain,  and keeps for us  the weeks appointed for the harvest.”¹ Your iniquities have turned these away,  and your sins have deprived you of good. For scoundrels are found among my people;  they take over the goods of others. Like fowlers they set a trap;  they catch human beings. Like a cage full of birds,  their houses are full of treachery; therefore they have become great and rich,  they have grown fat and sleek. They know no limits in deeds of wickedness;  they do not judge with justice the cause of the orphan, to make it prosper,  and they do not defend the rights of the needy. Shall I not punish them for these things?    says the Lord,  and shall I not bring retribution  on a nation such as this?
An appalling and horrible thing  has happened in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely,  and the priests rule as the prophets direct; my people love to have it so,  but what will you do when the end comes?
¹This verse is quoted in James 5:7, where he urges patience in suffering.
Complementary Psalm 73
Truly God is good to the upright,  to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled;  my steps had nearly slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant;  I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
For they have no pain;  their bodies are sound and sleek. They are not in trouble as others are;  they are not plagued like other people. Therefore pride is their necklace;  violence covers them like a garment. Their eyes swell out with fatness;  their hearts overflow with follies. They scoff and speak with malice;  loftily they threaten oppression. They set their mouths against heaven,  and their tongues range over the earth.
Therefore the people turn and praise them,  and find no fault in them. And they say, “How can God know?  Is there knowledge in the Most High?” Such are the wicked;  always at ease, they increase in riches. All in vain I have kept my heart clean  and washed my hands in innocence. For all day long I have been plagued,  and am punished every morning.
If I had said, “I will talk on in this way,”  I would have been untrue to the circle of your children. But when I thought how to understand this,  it seemed to me a wearisome task, until I went into the sanctuary of God;  then I perceived their end. Truly you set them in slippery places;  you make them fall to ruin. How they are destroyed in a moment,  swept away utterly by terrors! They are like a dream when one awakes;  on awaking you despise their phantoms.
When my soul was embittered,  when I was pricked in heart, I was stupid and ignorant;  I was like a brute beast toward you. Nevertheless I am continually with you;  you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel,  and afterward you will receive me with honor. Whom have I in heaven but you?  And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you. My flesh and my heart may fail,  but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Indeed, those who are far from you will perish;  you put an end to those who are false to you. But for me it is good to be near God;  I have made the Lord God my refuge,  to tell of all your works.
Semi-continuous Psalm 94
O Lord, you God of vengeance,  you God of vengeance, shine forth! Rise up, O judge of the earth;  give to the proud what they deserve! O Lord, how long shall the wicked,  how long shall the wicked exult?
They pour out their arrogant words;  all the evildoers boast. They crush your people, O Lord,  and afflict your heritage. They kill the widow and the stranger,  they murder the orphan, and they say, “The Lord does not see;  the God of Jacob does not perceive.”
Understand, O dullest of the people;  fools, when will you be wise? He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see? He who disciplines the nations, he who teaches knowledge to humankind,  does he not chastise? The Lord knows our thoughts,  that they are but an empty breath.¹
Happy are those whom you discipline,  O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law, giving them respite from days of trouble,  until a pit is dug for the wicked. For the Lord will not forsake his people;  he will not abandon his heritage;² for justice will return to the righteous,  and all the upright in heart will follow it.
Who rises up for me against the wicked?  Who stands up for me against evildoers? If the Lord had not been my help,  my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence. When I thought, “My foot is slipping,”  your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. When the cares of my heart are many,  your consolations cheer my soul. Can wicked rulers be allied with you,  those who contrive mischief by statute? They band together against the life of the righteous,  and condemn the innocent to death. But the Lord has become my stronghold,  and my God the rock of my refuge. He will repay them for their iniquity  and wipe them out for their wickedness;  the Lord our God will wipe them out.
¹Paul quotes this verse in 1 Corinthians 3:20, discussing divisions in the Corinthian church. ²Paul uses this verse in Romans 11:2, explaining that Israel's rejection is not final.
New Testament Epistle Lesson: 2 Peter 3:8-13
But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.
Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire? But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

NOT OUR OWN
Left to ourselves, in our humanity alone, we are limited to what we can comprehend. This is not a curse, but a wonderful thing! For through the limiting apprehensions of our physical man, we are being given space for faith–for which God will credit to us a future beyond our wildest imagination.
And at the end of our ability to reason and then grasp what is true of us as God’s inheritance (Eph. 1:18), we must know God is the Author of our lives, as ones who are now found in Christ.
Life will buffet us. But it’s what we do with the instability of this world and of the fleshly man and woman that carries our new, inner creation in Christ that matters.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. – Romans 12:1
It may seem to some that really living into and reckoning continually upon whose we are, and whom we are no longer (the old, dead man who was buried in Jesus at Calvary) is a denial of ‘reality.’ But I beg to differ. Rather, it is in living only in this physical body of flesh (which can feel and see with human perceptibilities alone) that deals us a false hand of cards as true Christians. When we do so, we are denying our new reality–the one into whom we are now living as new creations.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. – 2 Corinthians 5:17
We cannot, nor do we want to, deny pain or sadness or health concerns when they appear in our natural bodies. There are things that DO befall us in this life which must not be met with some kind of ethereal denial–as if to make unreal what is happening to us.
Take, for example, my wife’s current diagnosis with breast cancer. The physical reality is that the result of sin in this fallen world is all around us. The earth, our bodies–all of creation is lumbering through the fallout of the decision Adam and Eve made in the garden…taking upon themselves (ourselves), through conscious election, the ‘right’ given them by God to follow their/our own path.
But thanks be to God, we have been given a way out of the dilemma–in Christ’s once-for-all act on the cross which brought us a righteousness and a return to a place where we can live anew and aright.
Let’s be clear, we are nowhere in the Bible asked to deny our God-given emotions. It is through these emotions, and our surrendering ourselves to God in the midst of such challenging and real circumstances, that we can consciously give ourselves over into our new reality, and into a life capable of worship unto the One who has redeemed us and to whom we owe all.
However, we do know it is not God’s desire that we wallow long in our self-pity and emotional turmoil. To do so for an inordinate amount of time would indicate a lack of trusting provision in God’s true place in our lives as Author. And I am not saying that even nearly debilitating sadness won’t recur as we walk through the valleys! I am simply saying that we must quickly return to the feet of God to reckon upon his sufficiency, grace and strength as we live over and over again into His life which worketh so mightily within us (Colossians 1:29).
God’s interaction with Samuel in I Samuel 16:1 came to my attention this morning.
The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.” – I Samuel 16:1
Notice, God is not saying He was displeased with Samuel’s compassionate and natural disposition of grief over this development. But God did have some advice for Samuel after what we may assume to have been a season of crushing emotional turmoil. My paraphrase would be something like…
Okay, Samuel, even now I am with you. For a time, we have wept together. I have been with you in this. As you have sobbed and hurt, I have been allowing you to feel my hurt as well. This whole thing really stinks. O how I hate sin. And one day, if you could only see several hundred years into the future, you would know how much I hate sin, and how it is I will make a once-for-all and very personal sacrifice to put this sin thing to bed forever.
But for now, my heart has been grieving alongside yours over what has developed here–a development I would not have wished to have come about. But now it is time to accept my decree. You can trust me, Samuel. I am making a way to a brighter future. I am going to make beauty from ashes. Trust me in this. Let your mind and heart both come with me now to what is next. Grieve no more about what is happening, but look ahead to what I have planned–something that could not have taken place without Samuel’s rejection of me through disobedience.
Now, up we go! Fill your horn with oil and GO. I am making a way. In fact, this next thing I am going to do will blow you away. This David guy I have in mind…well, just you wait. It is through him I will make this way of which I speak to send my own Son into the turmoil and emotional grief of your world. But I need you to carry on now. Remember you are mine. I own you as my prophet. Rise up, and let me show you what is next. This is not only about Me, but you as well. I understand your emotion–remember, I created you this way! But now, bring me glory and demonstrate my power through your grief to an onlooking world by trusting into me as you walk where I am leading. I will strengthen you. Be faithful now. Here we go. Fear not. I AM.
So let’s remember through trial (an emotional reality not to be denied), that we are not our own. We are God’s to do with as He pleases. This IS NOT EASY. And to get through it (cancer, loss of a father or mother, Alzheimer’s, lost wages and jobs and material possessions) we must dwell upon what is true of us. And we must know that in our own strength or repetitious verbal rehearsal alone, we will not achieve any real peace in the midst of our storms. It is only through the authority of the Holy Spirit who lives in us that we are sustained - and in a way that does meet our emotion as well as our intellect.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. – Galatians 2:20
Lord, let your word dwell richly within us – that we might be capable of reflecting our newness in you. For you. For us. For a world that continues to need Light.

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?”
 Luke 12:54-56
This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
How good of a prognosticator are you?
We all do it, you know. We all like to make predictions, trying to interpret any number of things.
Of course, the one we are most familiar with is the weather and although most people don’t have the sophisticated equipment and knowledge to forecast what weather is to come, we know who to turn to that does. We even have an entire cable channel dedicated to nothing but weather. That’s how popular the need for accurate weather predicting has become. I mean, we even have a day set aside for a groundhog who presumably holds some magical ability to foretell weather spring will come early or winter will prolong.
Recently, the National Football season ended with their showcase championship event, The Super Bowl. What happened over the two weeks leading up to it? Everyone seemed to have their own opinions as to who would win and why. Perhaps there is no other sports event that lends to predictions than professional football’s championship game.
Yes, we seem to like to envisage almost anything that lends to prediction to include whether relationships may or may not last, particularly when celebrities are involved. But here’s one thing we’re not very good at forecasting. We’re not skilled in seeing our own futures, perhaps because we’re too focused on the futures of others, and this includes the fallen state of the world we live in.
As we see in today’s scripture passage from the 12th chapter of Luke, this isn’t just a present day problem for the people in Jesus’ time erred the same. Look again at His words again here:
He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?” Luke 12:54-56
Throughout this chapter, we find Jesus addressing a crowd of thousands which included His disciples. Taking advantage of the opportunity, He does what He usually likes to do, teach. As the chapter comes to a close we find Him addressing an issue among His listeners. For although they liked to pay close attention to predicting the weather (when it would rain or be hot), especially as it applied to their beloved harvest, they were not as good at paying attention to things much more important than that like the present times.
What were they failing to see?
The main thing was that their Savior was with them, the Messiah prognosticated by the prophets of old, the One who had come to save them.
Indeed, Jesus had been predicted. Jesus had been announced as arriving by John the Baptist. Jesus had shown Himself to possess a power unlike any man who had ever walked among the Jewish people. And yet the people didn’t recognize or acknowledge Him and they failed to do so all the way up to calling for His crucifixion and subsequently watching Him perish on Calvary’s cross.
The Jewish people failed to see the predicted Jesus who was in their midst to save them from a fallen, sinful state they also seemed to overlook. Today, the same thing is happening with the only difference being that the knowledge of Jesus as being God’s only Son and the Savior of mankind has now existed for more than 2,000 years. It’s far from a novelty as it was back when Jesus was alive.
So what will come of those today who can prognosticate weather, sporting events, relationships, or any number of other things and yet not see that they are living in a world destined for destruction, a world ready to take them down with it unless they receive salvation through Jesus, the only One who can bring it?
 Let me make a prediction.
It’s not going to end well and this isn’t coming from me. God’s word tells us what to expect.
“And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
“Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then He said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”  Revelation 20:12, 15; 21:1-5
Here is the prediction that is trustworthy and true, the prognostication you can take to the proverbial bank:
The book of life is going to be open and not everyone’s name is going to be written in it. Only those who received Jesus Christ as Savior will be listed and those people will enter into the new earth and heaven with God forever, liberated from everything that has ever afflicted them in this earthly life. Indeed, God will make all things new through His Son.
As for those who chose to reject Jesus, giving their attention to everything else except their own need for salvation, they will find they are not in the Book of Life and as a result will get to spend the rest of their life in the lake of fire. That’s right. You aren’t going to incinerate into ash and that be the end of it. That would be too easy. Instead, you will get to live in eternal torment. You’ll wish you could escape it but there will be no way out. Ultimately, you’ll get to kick yourself forever for snubbing the One who came to save you.
Here’s the good news for today. You can choose to secure your future in the best way possible, a future that will never stop being the best ever. You can reside with God and Jesus eternally with no worry over pain or sickness or hurt or sin for there will only be light and love and peace forever more.
All you need to do is realize you are a sinner without hope of salvation unless you receive Jesus as your Savior, the Jesus who died in your place on the cross to pardon you from your sins, the Jesus who justifies you on judgment day before God the Father, the Jesus who will ensure your name is written in the Book of Life.
 Amen.
 In Christ,
Mark

I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied."

7: But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard." Deut 30:9: "Then the LORD your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The LORD your  ,God will bless you in the land he is giving you. 11: The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in  the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock  and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore  to your ancestors to give you. 12: The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of   his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and  to bless all the work of your hands.
