OKAY RANT TIME
I MUST and I mean MUST immediately compare how link eats versus horses or I will PHYSICALLY EXPLODE because it’s really fucking hilarious ok
Ok so I have horses right. And when feeding a horse, you’d be surprised how much patience it takes. They’re slow. They can only eat like 1/4-1/2 (at MOST 2/3) of an apple at once, so you kinda sit there and hold it and feed them the bits they break off and stuff and they chew surprisingly SLOW.
And so in botw/Totk the animation is actually REALLY accurate to this. You have link hold the apples, the horses dip their head and eat it from his hands for a bit (ONE at a time, with PAUSES inbetween) then they swallow and are happy (with *sparkles*) :D
And that’s how it’s SUPPOSED TO BE horses DONT just scarf down WHOLE APPLES they were ACCURATE and made them TAKE THEIR TIME EATING like they do in REAL LIFE
….
And then there’s LINK
And I’m not gonna delve into the HORRIFYING animation in which link eats full meals, in which he forms his hands into CLAWS full of food and SHOVES it in his mouth before HA ing in satisfaction!!!!
BUT the way he eats food ITEMS like APPLES that HORSES eat is ABSOLUTELY DERANGED
This dude freaking takes a whole apple, which is like 1/3 the size of his HEAD cause he tiny and TOSSES IT, not shoves it as though it’s a strain but TOSSES a WHOLE APPLE in the back of his throat, having ONE biting sound before HA ing in satisfaction
!!!!!!
THERE ARE HORSES
HORSES who’s literal LEG is taller than link
Who eat it SLOWLY because they don’t have the CAPABILITY to knock back a whole freaking apple
AND THEN THERES LINK
WHOS THROAT CAN HANDLE MORE THAN LIKE A FREAKING DRAGON
AND THE MANIC JUST EATS WHOLE APPLES
and idk man it’s just really crazy and horrifying when you think about the way actual horses eat food, the way the in game horses eat food, and the way link-the-apple-god eats food cause that shit is wild man
Ok I’m done :)

By the Blades We Meet
the rest of the sudden burst of inspo i had on that day
Chapter one if you missed it, just gives context
--
Chapter two
The cloth ran over your sharp katana, wiping off the dirt that you can't even see. You had been allowed to have your own weapon, but only after thorough examination to make sure it isn't "booby-trapped". You stared at the silvery white blade, at the sunlight that reflected warmly at you. The weight sat comfortably in your hand, but you could almost hear your father's lectures about how a girl shouldn't hold a weapon.
"It was foolish decision! Why would you give her a damned sword out of anything?!"
Your parents were both Shiekah, your father an esteemed something for the Royal family. He had those beautiful locks of silver hair and a perfect face that can swoop any woman off her feet, a woman just like your mother. You don't know much about their prior relationship, but it certainly wasn't a happy one after you had been born. He seems to never be home, always on something away in the royal family, and your mother had left almost after your birth. It's one of those classic tragic family situations.
Not that you ever minded.
At least, the villagers were sympathetic of you, allowing you to hang around with them as they did their daily chores. You often spent long hours with different villagers, watching them as they went about their own business. An attempted Yiga attempt on attacking the village had ignited your interest at a young age at martial arts and sword fighting as you watched the people fending them off skillfully.
You also grew a love for food, or anything that's related to it. When the adults get boring, you would go and spend a lot of time with village kids, playing hide and seek and gathering ingredients for a cooking session everyone would join in. You weren't great at it first, but after some research with books you borrowed from village elders, you slowly became one of the best. You would also teach them about the special effects each ingredients have, and even the history about a particular type of food. All the villages kids would gather at your side as you told them the story. It was quite fun when you were young until you first tasted the thrill of fighting, after you have given your first katana and defeated one of the village adults who taught you a few tricks.
But of course, your father was not content about his daughter being a "tomboy" and playing with swords. That argument went quite extreme, shouts and anger that almost had the whole village over.
"Hey, you there?" A voice on top snapped you back into reality. One of the Gerudo trainees had stood up, a golden spear in her hand as she glanced down at you. "Getting cold feet already?" She mocked, "it's not too late to apply for a clown."
You laughed at her stabbing remark, sheathing your blade and standing up. "Well, I guess it's time to bring the monkey to a training, don't you think?" It was a dangerous remark, but she merely huffed.
"Get up, I have no time to waste on feeble Hylians."
You shrugged as the other women scooted away to stand behind the man and their commander, leaving ample space for both of you. The entire time, you felt the man's gaze boring into you. You never turned to confirm it, knowing it's only but a waste of time.
She dashed toward you, her spear ready to make a harsh struck. You were a bit surprised at the speed, ducking over her side before turning to aim on her back. She turned quickly, her spear clashing with your katana. The strength was not bad, and probably even stronger than yours.
But it all felt like a choreographed dance.
One down. Two down. Three down. The glint of surprise in their eyes as your blade shone coldly against their neck. The commander was getting more agitated each one you defeat, and the challengers more excited after the other.
It wasn't boring, at least, more fun than the creep you defeated along the way. It was something akin to defeating those esteemed sword masters, aside that this time it was all towering Gerudo women.
Again, you won all the duels, much to your own disappointment. The commander unsheathed her scimitar, walking over to you with a furious look in her eyes. But she was stopped by the king, who had a mysterious grin on his face.
"I want to duel with her." He said, the commander behind her widened her eyes, she opened her mouth to say something out of indignation, but he waved an arm to silence her. What a rude gesture, you thought as you looked at them, indifferent of their arguing. As long as you are fighting someone, it's ok. You supposed the man wasn't just a mediocre ruler - you saw the way his fingers glide over the sword slanted on his side, with relaxation and familiarity that only a person proficient in it would have.
The commander's shoulder slump a bit in defeat. The man looked at you in an oddly solemn way. "You fought over twenty of my sisters, it would be unfair to have you start again so soon."
Translation: your stamina must be weak. You huffed coldly, "it's alright."
He smiled, then begin to stalk over at you slowly. You saw a glimpse of a winning smirk on the commander's face as she retreated backwards with everyone else, who all stared at you.
"Shiekah, you have quite some skills up your sleeves. I wonder, did my sisters manage to pull out every single one of them?"
Ah… so he knew you weren't using your full skillset. You tilted your head, a smile ghosting over your lips. "What do you think, your Majesty?" You questioned, putting almost a provoking tone on the last part. He had a hand on the handle of his sword, which to your utter shock, was a katana. He noticed your reaction and chuckled, looking down at his blade before locking your eyes again.
"Seems like a fitting punishment for your disrespect towards I and my sisters, hm?" He taunted, his eyes playful. You pursed your lips, pulling your best unamused look.
"Seems like your ego need to be brushed down a bit." You muttered, lowering your body into a fighting stance as your hand clenched around the handle. He gave you something like a smirk, before you heard the blade unsheathe.
His katana clashed into yours, the sheer strength making your feet slide on the sandy floor. He was fast, he was so fast you barely noticed him launching at you. It almost caught you off guard, the easy fights you had before made you assume that his large stature would stagnate his speed, but obviously not being the case.
"Oh, did the little warrior lose her touch already?" He snickered down at you, his lips pulling back to reveal a row of white teeth and two canines that looked like just a little too sharp, "or is she just too flustered to face a man?" His voiced lowered to almost a purr, to which you rolled your eyes. Soon enough you won't be barking out stupid taunts like that.
You shifted your feet, using the movement to cancel out the grip he trapped you in, ducking to aim at the handle on his weapon. You don't expect anything to happen, but it was worth a try. Of course, he turned around just as quickly, blocking your attack with an array of his own, forcing you to step back until you have to jump out of his way to avoid him.
Damn. He is good at this.
You felt excitement rushing through you, your heart beating fast as the thrill of fighting a particularly dangerous opponent washes over your head. A smile unknowingly beamed on your face, to which he responded with one of his own mysterious ones. You don't know what he means by that smile: it's like a smirk, a grin, and some vague meaning mashed together.
"Don't be nervous, you are free to use any skills. Even sorcery."
So he also knows about that… it dawned on you that he was taking this just as serious as you are, testing the waters to earn any more valuable information.
You hummed quietly, choosing to ignore him. To be honest, he's quite a talkative one during a fight, not that you minded. You pounced at him, and just as you expected, he swung his sword. Why wouldn't he? An opponent is usually vulnerable in midair. To his surprise however, your feet landed on his blade, using it to jump up higher before dashing down to aim at the gold piece hung around his neck.
"Not bad." You heard his remark as your blade was once blocked again by another blade. He had two weapons on his hand. You smirked, it wasn't like he's the only one who had something hidden up their sleeve. Your left hand thrusted up, a small dagger blurring in the speed of movement toward his neck. "Going in for the risky moves now, aren't we?" To your surprise, his other katana blocked it, trapping your hand into a duel of strength. It wasn't ideal.
You tried to swoop his leg to tip him off balance but he just as quickly shifted over. You took the small chance and slipped from his grasp, jumping to a safe distance.
"So fierce… Was winning my sisters lifting your head too much in the clouds?" He sniggered, sheathing his other sword behind him.
"Was watching them lose against me putting a hole in your poor heart?" You taunted back, even though you knew you may need to pay for that later. Besting him in a combat seems difficult, and that's all you are here for.
You waited, contemplating a plan in your head. Both of you didn't manage to land a single hit on either, and it was clearly agitating you both. You began to pace, him following suit, circulating each other like birds on prey.
His form flashed in front of your eyes as you ducked down instinctively, hearing the wind whooshing to top of your head before throwing your dagger back. It spun in a perfect parabola before speeding back to you. You caught it, noticing the redness that slowly dripped down it's edge.
The king looked at you, there was a light cut on his arm. He raised an eyebrow at the wound.
"Impressive." He complimented, nodding his head at you, "seems like I need to be a little more serious, hm?". You ignored his musings, ready for his attack again. He was so lofty, but he have the skills to back it up.
You don't know how long it went on, metal clashing against metal, wind that knocks past your body just a bit too close, grins that exposed sharp canines, sand sliding underneath your feet. The afternoon sunlight slowly died into the evening. You were so close, cuts now lining your body just as it lined his body, with yours being the one with more, obviously. You felt a bit out of sync, your rhythm faltering slightly.
And he took the chance.
You found yourself face to face with the king, his cold, glimmering blade pressed lightly against the delicate flesh of your neck. If he pushed just a bit more, the tip will graze through your skin. You looked down at the blade, then looked up into his gold eyes. They looked like honey in the soft glows of the evening, his red locks flowing like the fierce afterglow of the sun.
You… lost. For the first time in years, you have lost. It was refreshing, excitement coursing through you as you gazed up at the man. His expression had turned soft, sweat coated his muscles.
"I didn't quite catch your name yet." He said, his voice just a bit out of breath.
Your voice came out as almost a cracked whisper, surprising you to the core. You answered, realizing just how tired you were, panting for oxygen. It wasn't unusual for your usual trainings, but instead now you felt relaxed, almost like home.
"You?" You asked, trying to calm down your drumming heart. You felt hot, perhaps in need of a drink of water, or something.
"Ganondorf." He smiled, lowering his blade before sheathing it back. His eyes fixated on you.
"I still didn't make you use all your secret arts, Shiekah." He shook his head, you weren't sure if you were imagining a small smile on his lips, "rest well, I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow, alive." He waved his hand, walking off with the Gerudo women and into what you assumed the palace.
You didn't know you also had a quiet smile on your own. You picked up your blade off the ground, feeling your legs ache and every muscle groaning for rest. Your heart was still thumping, pacing in your ribcage despite the fact you have already caught your breath. The evening glow brought a cool breeze up your body, you felt thankful for once at the exposing Gerudo attire as the wind graced over you with a coolness of the night. Clouds bloomed with shades of pink and orange as you picked up your beloved katana, sheathing it back and walking off to find the inn, where you would be looked after with gasps and concerned voices, and get a good nights sleep.
What you didn't see was after Ganondorf left with all that ease and pride he showed you, he'd turn over the first corner out of sight, his large hand clutched onto the closest column as the metallic taste finally exploded on his tongue, becoming the redness that oozed over his closed lips. His other hand clung to his ribs, grabbing the garment as he dubbed over slightly, pain racking up his body.
He thought he was unbeatable, that he'd already be numb to pain after that ten thousand years, bending over in an unnatural, sickening way, unable to move a single muscle. But how wrong you have proved him to be.
Blood rushed to his lips again, he stared, almost helplessly, as the red slowly dribbled down his chin and unto the marbled floor beneath. He heard concerned, hushed whispers of other women and a clatter of footsteps as they rushed over with cloth and medicine, asking if their king was alright.
He is fine. No. He's more than fine. His whole body burnt with the exertion from earlier, his heart beating with a newfound vigor. He had won your dual, but only by a sliver that he cannot even begin to measure, and he is deeply impressed.
There, a new desire was ignited in his mind. And you, the one who put a Hylian pinecone on that blazing flame.
You.

I have a question for the Zelda Fandom.
So in a lot of Fanmedia where multiple Links are put together. I noticed that the Link in Twilight Princess and the Link from Breath in the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom always seem to have a connection. I haven't played any of the games only watched so I was wondering why this was?
Is it just a fandom thing or an actual reason or a theory?

our history | zelda/link, botw/totk
Tumblr media
Link doesn’t have any words to offer her. It’s always been this way. There are letters scratching at the end of his throat, but no sound. He knows what he wants to say, but he can’t seem to verbalize it. Not to her. Not when she has always been the one skilled with speaking and constructing sentences that exemplify the goodness of her character. When Zelda spoke, she wasn’t simply saying things, or rambling. It was always more than that. Words were never just words when it came from her, they sounded more akin to prayers, delicate and light and sincere and kind. He doesn’t have that skill. Instead, he is callous and careless. Blunt and brief. It was easier to stay quiet than to run the risk of saying the wrong things.
Our history. Our history. That is what she said. It is not solely his, nor solely hers, and it is not something that they keep a different version of to themselves separately. There is nuance in the way she crossed off all individualities in their story. Our history. Their story. Theirs.
pairing | zelda/link, zelink
tags | canon compliant, bittersweet, snapshots, post-calamity ganon, spoilers for totk, light-hearted, non-sexual intimacy, one-shot.
for @zelinkcommunity's zelink week, day 4 | hand in hand.
word count | 10,735 words.
notes | 2/2 of my entries for this year's zelink week! really, i wish i could participate in more days, except my schedule's been hectic as hell so i was only able to plan out two pieces. xc i hope you enjoy! as a preface: this is canon compliant to botw/totk, except for a few minor details (eg. zelda is queen, castle town was restored, etc.) !!

I just had a brainwave about Link, the Spirit Stone, and Recall. I was thinking about how the Spirit Stone might allow Link to not only use the Zonia abilities but also the Runes from the Sheikah Slate, which lead to the similarities between Statis and Recall when it hit me- from basically the beginning of the game, we always have a Sage ability- Sonia/Zelda’s Recall. Like, sure it isn’t symbolized by a ring like the others, but it show how fundamental the relationship between Link and Zelda are. Zelda may not have an avatar but she is always there to support Link via the Recall ability, so much so that the Shires do not block this ability like they do with the other Sage abilities and even Auto build.
This was brought to you by thinking too hard about @science-lings questions about how this game would change Link’s future.

I think it’s funny how Nintendo bends over backwards to say that Zelink isn’t canon when TOTK especially proves that statement wrong. The writing on the wall pretty much all but says that they’re an established romantic couple. I mean I get why they’re denying it, I really do but like come on.
This is not a perfectly direct response to what you said, but something I've always wondered is what the people who played tears of the kingdom but not breath of the wild thought.
If we hadn't seen link lose his memories, or zelda get angry with him, what would an objective view of their interactions in totk see?
Obviously the past is important and has impacted their relationship a ton. But I've always just kind of wondered: without botw, what would we think of totk zelink? What would we think of Zelda ranting and being super excited about discoveries if we didn't have a memory of her not wanting to share her research with him. What would we think of her talking about him being a knight originally appointed for her protection if we didn't know she had resented that at some point.
If we were to forget what we know about the harsh and difficult parts of their past, and look at their present interactions objectively, would we truely see love there?
And if we were to look back at the past after only looking at the present, what would we think then, about the progression?
Anyways yeah as far as Nintendo's statements is concerned it's a combat video game about saving the world they don't care for confirming any ships but we DO get DRAGONS so anyways

I introduced my little sister to age of calamity and daruk is by far her favorite. she thinks he’s adorable. she wants to give him a hug and cuddle him like a plushie. she thinks he’s goofy and hilarious. she teared up when I told her that in botw he’s dead. everyone needs this kind of daruk apperception in their lives.

By the Blades We Meet
Ganondorf brainrot that was inspired by this prompt below. I accidentally wrote two chapters for this while procrastinating on chemistry and figured why not post it. so here's my take on the op's awesome idea
--
Chapter one
The man slumped onto the sand-strewn floor beneath your sandaled feet, all of his previous baffles and threats gone. You huffed a cool laughter, brushing off the dust that got onto your new desert set. As embarrassing as the clothes were, they weren't actually restrictive of your movements.
"T- Thank you." A small voice mumbled behind you, right, it was the Hylian girl this man tried to harass. The sound of her quiet voice snapped you back from your disappointment at the guy's lack of a good fight. He had strength, but only strength. You turned back to the girl and gave her a small smile.
"No problem."
Before she could say anything else or blabber more nonsense, you strapped your hat back on, and continued the road to Gerudo Town. You heard something about paying back from the girl, but you don't really care. Right now, you just want to find someone who can provide a fun fight with you. And it was said that the Gerudo were a race consisting entirely of women, and they were all raised as formidable warriors.
Life gets boring, it gets boring quick. Kakariko was a peaceful, quiet village. Entirely opposite of what you wanted. The martial arts that were supposed to be passed down for generations have faded, the usual masters at them have grown weak with time. You wanted excitement, wanted the power it feels to see hundreds of monsters crumbling at your feel, the thrill it feels to push your katana against a mighty opponent. You don't have to win, no, you don't want to win. You are tired to winning.
You just wanted a good fight.
One by one. Your challengers had all bowed in defeat. You skill grew exponentially with each passing fight, the fun it had to be defeated by someone when you were but a teenager had gone, as you had even passed the test provided by Impa's personal protectors. They had asked you stay and serve the people, telling you a promising future by serving the royal family. But that's not what you want.
You are the untamed wind that soars in the sky, the wild beast that chases the moon.
And all you want was to find someone who can beat you in battle.
The desert wind blew, as you found yourself at the entrance of the town. It was an oasis in the midst of the golden sand that stretched beyond the horizon. You looked up at the tall, brooding women guarding the the gates, their body shone with power and strength under the harsh sunlight. You were considered tall for a Sheikah, but you still feel dwarfed by their appearance. One of the women peeked down at you, her fiery eyebrow rising slightly. She eyed the guard next to her, and they moved the spears apart, opening the entrance.
You nodded, deciding that asking the guards for a fight may as well make you an unwelcomed guest in the town.
You paced slowly, taking in the unfamiliar layout into a map insider of your head. You wished you had a Sheikah slate with you, but that technology had been forgotten over time. There were shops, trinkets, and loud chattering. A group of laughing children ran past you, giggling as they swung their tiny, wooden weapons at each other. It was truly a town made for warriors, and you wondered why you didn't find it sooner.
You let your hand brush lightly against the sheathed katana, a habit you had developed ever since the childhood incidence where your weapon was stolen by a random Yiga member during a fight. It was quite stupid, and something that you feel ashamed of to recall.
Your ears perked up, having adjusted to the noise volume to catch on to the distant, faint sound of clattering. It sounded like weapon hitting against a each other, a noise that had your heart racing. Maybe there's a training session going on? You followed the sound, waving away the enthusiastic shopkeeper who called you over to look at her products. You turned right into a quiet valley, right over a bar that burst with laughter and clinking of glass. Over to a wall where the noises grew louder.
It was definitely weapons clattering, you can even hear the occasional grunt when a harder hit lands on what you presumed to be a shield. It sounded like fun, so you ran over to the open archway, and peered from the side.
A simple, open arena opened in front of you. Everyone in it wore the same armor as the two guards outside, their red mane of a hair tied into tall ponytails and buns. All of them were split into pairs, each pair holding on to either a spear, or a scimitar paired with a shield. Shouts and sweat filled the open arena. You scanned the place, noticing a few ones singled out on the side who practiced with a dummy, and the two people looking like their commanders standing on the top of a small stairway that raised off the ground.
One of them looked suspiciously like a man, towering even over the tall woman next to him. His arms were folded against his chest, and his attire unique from anyone you had seen. He wore a serious, yet intrigued expression on his face as he watched the training session. Nothing special other than the curious headpiece that hung on his forehead. You turned your attention back onto the fight, too bored to pay attention to the two spectators.
The Gerudo had a unique style of fighting. One that allowed them to make it look graceful even with the heavy weapons they wielded. But still, a quite simplistic one that you have confidence of winning against, even without a shield. You never liked those things anyways, as katana was the go-to weapon: light, fast, efficient, clean. Some Shiekah sorcery was also fun, but you need more digging and practicing on those to avoid the occasional failures they have. You only learnt them from watching the Yiga and the Shiekah doing it, so that explains why it is flawed when you try it.
A hind of boredom snuck their way into you, by now, you have grasped the basics of their movements. You supposed that the Gerudo would be more difficult to fight than any of the other races, but it still didn't seem enough. But at least they have the spirit to train their people, unlike the others who just gave up on it.
Something perked your attention, like a sudden ice cold water that was dumped onto your head. Your gaze snapped up, and was met with the piercing eyes of the odd man on the platform. He motioned toward the woman, who gave him a frown before snapping her eyes to you. You looked back into their hard gaze unflinchingly, and again turned back to the training, deciding to ignore them even as you felt their gaze drilling a hole through you.
The session seems to be approaching the end, as several women began to falter slightly in their movements, the one on top of the platform had raised her hand, giving a clear order to take a break. The fight ceased, the trainees scattered across the arena for a rest, sweat beaming on their sun-kissed, dark skin. It was beautiful, you wondered if you could join.
You stepped in, feeling their gazes as you crossed the weapons and walked slowly, but purposefully to the two commanders, who's eyes were both on you. Several resting trainees stood up, their hand holding tight on their weapons.
"State your purpose before you come any closer." What you assumed to be the woman commander spoke, her voice loud and forceful.
The man next to her sighed, "calm, it is not as if I cannot defend myself."
Ok, it's definitely a man then. He had a deep, pleasant voice that would make anything he says to sound enjoyable. You peered over curiously, it seems that he holds a high social status here.
You raised both of your hands as a show of your compliance. "I mean no harm to anyone, but the training have deeply intrigued me, and I wonder if I could join them as a challenge." You spoke carefully, fighting a lot of angry warrior women at once sounds fun, but it's not exactly what you want at the moment.
"Join us?" The commander said with a huff of bewilderment, "a Hylian like you cannot withstand our vigorous training." She shook her head, her tone prideful as she stared you down. You felt a smile pull at your lips.
"First of all, I am a Sheikah." You stated, your hands are still raised, but a casual smile had snuck onto your face, you noticed the man next to her turning his gaze on you, but you ignored it. He was probably just some dumb patron anyways. "But what if I bested all of you in a one to one, or all to one, combat?"
Silence fell around them, the woman burst into laughter and the man holding a bemused grin on his face.
"Sheikah, don't bite off more than what you can handle." He spoke directly to you for the first time, he was grinning in almost a menacing way, but his eyes were searchful as they bored into you. "If you get badly injured, it is not within our responsibility to help."
"Your majesty!" The commander next to him glared, "you can't be seriously considering this… foolish request from that Hylian?"
"Why not?" He looked over at her, his face full of confidence, "once our sisters are well-rested, they can surely challenge the Shiekah as they like. I've heard that the Shiekah tribe masters in secret martial art, wouldn't it be a good opportunity to see what the fearsome servant of the royal family have in stock for us, right?"
You clicked your tongue in annoyance, but deciding against telling them off from seeing you as a mere servant of others. You save all, you serve none. But does it matter to a sheep on the knife's edge?
The Gerudo women nodded, their wary eyes scanning over your body, sizing you up. So this man is apparently, a king, if not a prince, to this tribe. You vaguely recall some history book saying this phenomenon of a man every once a century, but you had assumed it to be just a fancible lie told by the king every generation to showcase his "uniqueness" to the outside. The commander gave you a death glare.
"Well then. You've heard the king, don't go easy on the Hylian." She turned, obviously angry. The man burst into a hearty laugh, putting a giant hand on her shoulder.
"Let's get started when anyone feels ready. Keep it at one on one for now."
