Oh this is hard, are we talking TLotR fellowship or can I toss in The Hobbit and The Silmarillion? If so my top three faves have to be

I was just thinking about how Boromir died believing Merry and Pippin were going to be tortured and killed in the hands of the Uruk-Hai, never knowing that they’d escape and eventually reunite with the three hunters. He never knew that Gandalf was brought back to them. He never knew that Theoden would answer to Gondor’s beacons and fight on the Pelennor fields. He never knew that his brother would find happiness in Eowyn. Boromir never knew that Frodo would succeed in destroying the Ring. That Aragorn would be crowned King. That the lands would be united and free. He died believing that he failed the fellowship, his family and his city. I’d like to think about something different, now, because this is breaking my heart.
