(day two) we went to winter wonderland , ross macdonald
note, again, thank you to @abiiors! check out this masterlist for more! pair, ross macdonald x reader summary, a bucket list thing for y/n is she wants to see new york during christmas. so, before they all fly home for the holidays and their two month break, ross makes a special pitstop. warnings, none :) word count, 730 words
Tumblr media
(picture found on pinterest)
You were so ready to go home. After spending almost the entire year on the road, you were ready to just sleep in your own bed for a long period, see your cat, and get back to normal before Ross was gone again.
Lord knows Ross was also ready to go home. After being on tour consistently with not very long breaks, he was ready to go home and never come out.
And while Ross longed to go home, he knew there was one thing on your bucket list that you wanted to do in the States before going home. More than anything in the world, you wanted to see the lights and atmosphere of New York during Christmas.
So, with the help of a few of the others, he booked a flight and a hotel without telling you. When you got to the airport, he lied about your whereabouts and simply told you that there weren't enough flights on the plane so you couldn't ride with everyone else but they managed to get two tickets for you to fly together.
It made no sense, but you went along with it, having no reason to question it further. And the fact that you were flying to New York was simply explained away with the excuse that there weren't enough direct flights. So, you were none the wiser when you landed in New York.
Suddenly, you were confused. Instead of walking towards a gate in the airport, you were walking out of the airport, following Ross like a kid, watching him hail a taxi and load your things inside, "What's going on?" You whispered when he ushered you into the back of the taxi.
"You'll see." He looked almost giddy as he turned to look out the window at the growing silhouette of the city. The taxi pulled up in front of a hotel and while you waited on the sidewalk, holding your bag, Ross paid the driver and grabbed your suitcases.
You were so confused as you texted Polly and , trying to get answers out of them, but they didn't reveal anything. You looked back over at Ross, who smiled, nodding over to the elevator.
Once in your room, you crossed your arms and looked at him, "Okay, tell me what're we doing here?" You demanded.
"Well..." He set your bags down and sat on the bed, patting the spot next to him. You raised a brow but sat down, "This is your big Christmas gift."
"I'm not following."
"You've always wanted to see New York during Christmas, so here we are." He explained, watching with a big smile on your face as you went through every emotion trying to process what he had just said.
Most of what you wanted to see didn't start until after the sun set, so you spent the next day doing Christmas shopping, drinking lots of hot chocolate, and popping in and out of bookstores. When it started to get dark, you grabbed more hot chocolate and found a spot in front of the big Christmas tree.
"...and then Katniss was like "Thank you for your consideration," and she bowed and walked out, and you aren't supposed to do that. You're supposed to wait to be dismissed, but I guess, after you shoot an arrow at someone's head, you'd want to just leave." Ross had no idea what you were talking about, having gotten lost in what you were saying a while ago, but I liked listening to you explain things you loved to him.
You continued talking about the plot of The Hunger Games, only cutting yourself off when the tree lights started to flicker before they flicked all the way on. You watched the lights in awe, whipping out your phone snapping pictures, and taking videos.
Ross watched from his seated position, a big smile on his face. He whipped out his own phone and snapped a picture of you. Your face was just barely visible, but the smile on your face and the brightness in your eyes was seen.
You turned back to him when you got your fill and smiled, sitting down with him, "Thank you."
"You're welcome." He wrapped an arm around your shoulders and kissed your head. You looked back at the tree, leaning your head on his shoulder, humming happily when he leaned his head on yours.

Thank god Yomenaido bookstore was open today. It was his girlfriend's birthday today and he couldn't meet her at Aiya's empty-handed, aside from paying for an extra large beef bowl and anything else her enormous appetite craved. It was all on him. He still had quite a lot of money left from last year.
Yu entered the store and browsed through the various books lined up until he reached the manga section. Now, given Chie's bubbly personality, it only made logical sense to pick something adventurous and fun to read through. Finally, after a few minutes of careful consideration, he found one: Akame Ga Kill, featuring a female protagonist with a strong sense of justice.
He's sure that she will at least find it enjoyable. He paid for it in no time, asked the clerk to wrap it up nicely, and quickly made his way to the Chinese restaurant where it seems that she best him to it.
"Sorry I'm late." He looked apologetic for a moment and sat down beside her, planting a quick peck on her cheek. "Happy birthday, honey bun. I'm treating you today and I also got you something nice to read." He handed over the mystery book with a smile. "It's a long one, but I hope it's to your taste."
Somehow, Inaba's well-known steak skewer and Topsicle combo tasted much better with it being her birthday. Tough, chewy meat combined with the sweet, icy flavors made for one very happy brunette. Her second lunch was complete, and after waving goodbye to the counter clerk Chie made her next pitstop...right next door. Aiya's couldn't be missed on this important day, and this time she expected a guest to accompany her for this meal.
Although...she didn't see a familiar grey bowl-cut hair anywhere inside, not that many people were currently lounging or eating up their fill of noodles. By the time dinner came around, the scenery would drastically change. Nevertheless, she asked the teenage waitress for a two-person table, then patiently sat with her line of sight in perfect view of the door. He didn't forget their meetup. Yu wasn't like that. Friends and family always came first for him. Perhaps he was putting the finishing touches on his birthday gift to her?
Tumblr media
Whatever the case, the brunette hunkered down and kept herself preoccupied browsing the presents in her current stash. Of course, she took a few nibbles of some store-bought sweets and homemade candies from the other shops in the area, just to snack on in preparation for her third lunch. It's after she finished a piece of mochi her chocolate brown eyes casted towards the doorway, hearing the little bell sounded the arrival of her wonderful boyfriend.
"Over heeeere!!" Her shouts carried over the customers' heads and the clattering sounds of a working kitchen, just to get his attention. Once he meandered towards the table Chie rose up quickly to embrace him tightly, complete with an eager smile and light giggle. "My sweet, sweet kitty is finally here, heehee~. Don't feel bad about being late, I was already checkin' out some of the swag I got from Yosuke." She pressed her lips against his cheek, returning his affection in kind and releasing her tight hold. "And I see you brought me something too, riiiiiiiight?" It's snatched away already, paper flying in every direction since someone couldn't hold their excitement in much longer. Friend gifts were special, but a boyfriend gift had that little extra bit of love in it.
Tumblr media
"Oooooooooh, I've heard of this one before...but I never had the chance to start reading it." Chie didn't read too far into the pages, only briefly skimming the first chapter then setting it aside. It's a thoughtful gift, and one fitting the brunette's own tastes too. "Maybe I'll start reading it tonight after we party! Heehee~! I'm glad you wanted to spend some time with just me today, though." Oh she couldn't help herself! Screw sitting across from him!
Chie took the seat aside Yu, immediately locking lips with the boy and letting her arms drape over his shoulders. Did they make a bit of a scene? Ah, she didn't care! "I love you, sooooo so so much, you know? I probably told you that a zillion times now but...it's true." Her nose briefly brushed against his, and she let their foreheads gently rub together.
Tumblr media
"I love you a whoooooole lot. You being here has already made this birthday the best I can ask for..."

spent most of my day outside today which was a++++ aaahhhhh (◡ ‿ ◡ ✿)
first got breakfast at a new cafe that I will definitely be returning to bc the breakfast bagel i got from them was excellent, and they have a great outdoor seating area, too. lovely vibes, super nice staff. spent an hour getting some work done there today.
then went to porter and spent some time browsing the bookstore and although ‘all we can save’ caught my eye, I resisted and walked away without making a book purchase (mostly bc my destination was harvard and I already had two books and my laptop with me so I didn’t want to carry a third book lol).
made a pitstop at the plaza between harvard yard and the harvard science center and snagged a chair under the shade where I did work for another hour or so. the leaves above me just blocked the sun but there was still enough light to dapple through and honestly probs my fav part of the day.
finally made it to the cambridge public library which was my main destination at around 4 pm lol. went to renew my library bc I lost it. was told that my account had been terminated bc it’d been so long since I last used it which was LOL bc yeah I really did stop going to the library for like 3-4 years and only bought my books or borrowed them from friends... anyways, made a new account, so that was successful.
then wanted amorino ice-cream so i indulged myself, but not before also stopping at the harvard bookstore and harvard coop lmao. anyways. sat outside and ate my ice cream while listening to a podcast. then finally walked home where i picked up a rice bowl from another new restaurant that I’d been meaning to try out.
ate dinner at home on the back balcony soaking up the last rays of sunlight. sun has basically set now but it’s still lovely outside so i’ll probs hang out here for a bit longer. anyways. excellent day.
very me-focused which was great bc I definitely didn’t have the energy to engage with people today lol. my roommates walked to a park and invited me along but I was like next time I need to recharge today :P

Bed Sharing
I created this list probably about a month or so ago, and I remember being so hopeful for the finale. I never dreamt we would get semi-canon Destiel, but I also never imagined the finale would be that disappointing. I will be posting a list of 15x20 fics, but for now, take this fluff and ignore your problems for a while.
Lock and Key by tricia_16 on AO3. (144,500 words).
Tags: Alternate Universe - Soulmates, Bookstore Owner Castiel, Musician Dean Winchester, Friends to Lovers, Keeping Secrets, Mutual Pining, Flirting, Sexual Tension, Slow Burn, Smut, Virgin Castiel, Angry Sex, Dubious Content, Recreational Drug Use, Fluff, Dating, Song Lyrics, Sharing a Bed, Happy Ending.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: In a world where people get songs stuck in their heads whenever their soulmate is singing out loud, Castiel discovers that being soulmates with an aspiring singer/songwriter can be taxing, to say the least. Finding said soulmate, learning that he's the most attractive human being on the face of the earth, and then not being able to tell him he’s meant for you? It turns out that's even worse. Not having a soulmate is just the icing on the cake on an already crappy life, if you ask Dean. He wants to sell his songs, but he's terrified of singing them himself. He wants to be a mechanic, but he's stuck selling parts, instead. He wants to kiss the ever loving fuck out of Sam's girlfriend's boss, too, but the guy's holding out for his soulmate, which of course means Dean doesn't even have a shot....right?
Notes: The pure terror that struck me at the end of chapter one nearly made me dip out of this, but I stuck through it, and was 100% rewarded with the ending (I screamed. I think everyone is worried about me now).
Stand By Me by whelvenwings on AO3. (31,252 words).
Tags: Alternate Universe - Zombie Apocalypse, Post-Apocalypse, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Mutual Pining, Slow Burn, Hurt/Comfort, Sharing a Bed, Slow Dancing, Smut, First Kiss, Canon-Typical Violence, Touch-Starved Dean, Love Confessions.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: Dean Winchester has been alone for a long, long time. When he and Castiel happen to find each other - a couple of survivors in a world that’s been all but wiped clean - Dean’s looking for his brother; Castiel is looking for something to look for. They stick together, because neither of them much wants to be alone. They hate each other at first, of course. Dean hates Castiel for being weird and quiet and ironic and antagonistic and proud. Castiel hates Dean for being blunt and reckless and coarse, for drinking, for refusing to talk about how he feels and just pretending everything is fine. Most of all, they hate themselves and each other just for being alive. What right do they have to be alive? No one else seems to be. But against his own will, Dean starts to notice things about Castiel that he likes. Starts to hope that Castiel might like him, too. And together, they start to fight for a world where they're both alive - and that's a good thing.
Notes: I know I have recced this multiple times before but it is one of my all time favourite fics so I won’t apologise! It is so cute, and it has everything you could ask for in a fic.
Partnered by K_K_TiBal on AO3. (28,112 words).
Tags: Minor Donna/Jody, Minor Eileen/Sam, Detective Dean Winchester, Lieutenant Castiel, Undercover as Married, Suburbia, Drug Use, Sharing a Bed, Pining, Fake/Pretend Relationship, Fake Marriage, Falling in Love, Love Confessions, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, First Kiss, Demisexual Castiel, Demiromantic Dean Winchester.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: Dean didn't think that his life as a detective could get much worse after Castiel was promoted to lieutenant. Castiel was a stickler for the rules, had no sense of humour, and never seemed to give Dean a break, even though they used to be partners. But then, despite all of their questionable history, the two are asked to go undercover on a case in the wealthy suburbs of California. . . as a married couple.
Notes: I am screaming, that was so f*cking cute! And the artwork was gorgeous, too. Also, now I ship Jody and Donna. Cas gave off such Holt vibes in this, I was convinced I accidentally started reading a Brooklyn Nine-Nine fic (do those exist?)
the cost of a thing by quiettewandering on AO3. (74,198 words).
Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Angst with a Happy Ending, Fake Marriage, Human Castiel, Protective Dean Winchester, Touch-Starved Castiel, Mutual Pining, Jealous Dean Winchester, Slow Burn, Depressed Castiel, Fake/ Pretend Relationship, Sharing a Bed.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: 16 months ago, Cas became human. 12 months ago, Cas left the bunker and a broken-hearted Dean behind. Now they must work a case together, where married couples are dying mysterious deaths and the only way to earn the neighbors' trust is by pretending to be married. Slowly, Dean finds that he loves being in a relationship with Cas, fake or not, and Cas finds his loneliness retreating, despite the harsh reality looming right around the corner. As Dean and Cas navigate this fake, but all too real, relationship, can they find the monster that is on a mysteriously motivated killing spree before it’s too late?
Notes: So cute! My favourite trope! And, as an added bonus, the sharing of a bed.
flowers in the backyard by justkeeponwriting on AO3. (34,710 words).
Tags: Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Homeless Castiel, Domestic Fluff, Sharing a Bed, Minor Character Death, References to Depression, Angst with a Happy Ending, Smut.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: After Uncle Bobby’s death, Dean goes to check up on the cabin that he’s inherited. Dean hasn’t been at the cabin for years, but he knows Bobby hasn’t renovated it in ages, so he isn’t very thrilled to be saddled with it. Upon arrival, he notices that unlike he expected, it’s not unoccupied, nor falling apart – instead, a stranger called Castiel has made it into his home.
Notes: This was such a relaxing and gentle read, I nearly fell asleep after I finished it! Cas & Dean’s tentative relationship was written absolutely beautifully, too.
What Happened In Vegas by Ltleflrt on AO3. (18,447 words).
Tags: Sam/Eileen, Alternate Universe - No Supernatural, Teacher Dean, Photographer Castiel, Las Vegas Wedding, Secret Relationship, Sharing a Bed, Switch Dean, Switch Castiel, Fluff.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: Long time friends Dean and Castiel are road tripping from Chicago to San Diego for Sam and Eileen’s wedding, and a pitstop in Las Vegas turns into drunken love confessions and a surprise marriage. Turns out the pining has been mutual this whole time, but now they’re finally together and on cloud-fucking-nine. Until they remember that this trip isn’t supposed to be about them. To avoid undermining Sam and Eileen’s important weekend, they decide to keep their new relationship status a secret. They’ll keep the heart eyes toned down and their hands to themselves, but the struggle is real.
Notes: Oh my lord, this was absolutely hilarious (especially that last piece of art - I totally lost it) and adorable. I can totally imagine Dean and Cas getting a cheesy Vegas wedding, and we can all dig Elvis (sorry).
Stories Are Made of Mistakes by wildhoneypie on AO3. (4,942 words).
Tags: Human Castiel, Diners, Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Bisexual Dean, Sharing a Bed, Slow Burn, Slow Build, Case Fic, Domestic, Didn’t Know They Were Dating.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: In which Cas is human and doesn't understand basic concepts like: clothing, Mythbusters, moisturizer, and Greek food. Dean is...Dean and doesn't understand basic concepts like: boyfriends, language, how to tell your friend that he's a walking miracle, and when not to quip.
Notes: This was so cute and I live for human Cas. I also love the recurring ‘no fucking quipping’ joke in this, although the idea of Cas swearing broke me a bit!
Sharing the Rain Dog by almaasi on AO3. (19,837 words).
Tags: Alternate Universe - Human, Alternative Universe - Historical (1999), Fluff, Romance, No Angst, Accidental Dating, First Dates, Rain, Dogs, Pets, FBI Agent Castiel, Musician Dean, Singer Dean, Flustered Dean, Domestic Fluff, Friends to Lovers, Moving In Together, Living Together, First Kiss, Sharing a Bed, Cuddling, Smut.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: When some asshole hits a dog with his car and drives off, the first two people on the scene are Dean and Castiel. Castiel's an FBI agent with a plane to catch, and he doesn't have time to take the dog to the vet. Dean's a musician, and he doesn't have the money. An agreement is reached: Dean goes, Castiel pays, and they'll exchange details and meet again to work things out. But who gets the dog? Sooner or later they're going to realise that having shared custody of one pitbull isn't ideal. She needs one home, not two. One stable, loving home...
Notes: Rain Dog was so cute, and so was flustered Dean! The hitting a dog joke is starting to get out of hand, though.
This Game We Play by destieldrabblesdaily on AO3. (1,195 words).
Tags: High School AU, Friends to Lovers, Fluff, Bed Sharing.
My Rating: 3 stars.
Description: Dean and Castiel have been best friends since they were little, and sleepovers are a common event. They've always loved playing the game where they draw out letters on each others backs and try to guess what the other is writing. Even though sixteen seems to be a bit too old to still play the game, Castiel uses it as a chance to silently confess something that he's been wanting to share with Dean for a long time.
Notes: This was adorable. I am 100% here for Cas and Dean being childhood friends.
Minty Fresh Kisses by almaasi on AO3. (7,905 words).
Tags: Fake/Pretend Relationship, Motel Rooms, Teeth, Dean in Love, Human Castiel, First Kiss, Pancakes, Sharing a Bed, Fluff, Dean POV, One Shot.
My Rating: 3 stars.
Description: Dean teaches a newly-human Castiel how to brush his teeth properly. Things don't go according to plan – but for once, the unexpected development actually presents a more promising outcome.
Notes: This was so sweet, and Cas was so cute as a human! Also, I love fics where Sam is just done with the constant sexual tension, it always makes me laugh.
Wee Little Love Child by almaasi on AO3. (10,649 words).
Tags: Fluff, Romance, Kid Fic, Team Free Will, De-Aged Sam Winchester, Cursed Sam Winchester, Mistaken for Being in a Relationship, Sam Winchester ships Dean/Cas, Matchmaker Rowena, Parent Castiel, Parent Dean, Affectionate Dean, Love Confessions, First Kiss, Sharing a Bed, First Time, Friends to Lovers, Domestic Fluff.
My Rating: 3 stars.
Description: After being magically de-aged, little Sammy is under the impression that Dean and Cas are his parents. He wants to know if they're in love, but they can't (or won't) give a consistent answer. The thing is, they have to grant Sam's greatest wish in order to reverse the curse, but they can only do that as a pair. What does Sam want most? For Dean and Cas to express their true feelings. Aloud. To each other.
Notes: Aw, I love Rowena, and I am 100% here for her cursing Sam just to get Dean and Cas to stop being idiots and actually get together.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again: the fans are in control now. We control the Supernatural content we are getting, so please create the ending you would want to see. And, if anyone wants to talk or rant or suggest a fic, I am always here.

▌ REAL NAME:   peter maddox woods (though perry is the only one who calls him peter most of the time)
▌SINGLE OR TAKEN:   with the exception of a few girlfriends in his high school years that didn’t last more than a few weeks, he’s single till 1967 when he meets the lovely photographer, perry marchand @voirverite
▌ABILITIES OR POWERS:   scathing wit, a wicked sense of humour given a place to thrive, and a tendency to know how situations are going to go before they happen.
( ...and here is where i am cutting this off to read more so yall don’t have a huge post on your dash and can choose to read at ur own will... )
▌EYE COLOR:   a very pale blue that often looks grey until he’s in deeply saturated golden hour sunlight or by the sea, in which case his eyes look almost cerulean.
▌HAIR COLOR:   an irish blooded dark brown, nearing black. starts to streak like salt and pepper in his late thirties and eventually goes silver by his mid-late forties.
▌FAMILY MEMBERS:   mother and father, both estranged and woods bears very little resemblance to them in myriad ways, and a lesbian cottagecore-esque aunt who woods is cut off contact from at a young age and doesn’t reconnect with until later in his adulthood.
▌PETS:   an irish wolfhound named boris, gifted to him and perry by musician mark crowe, and a dalmatian named marlene, also gifted to the couple by a luxuriously-living friend who can spend that kind of money on a dog...
▌SOMETHING THEY DON’T LIKE:   insanely entitled fans — he’s dealt with a few too many in his life and their attitude turns him sour. sometimes i think woods ends up being far too judgemental of people due to his job experience but this eventually wears off by the eighties when he’s gone through a period of development and isn’t working as a roadie any longer. also, touring.
▌HOBBIES/ACTIVITIES:   ... touring... (it’s a love/hate relationship), writing at odd hours of the night, birdwatching, smoking pipes, visiting bookstores, reading clever literature that sometimes includes funny children’s books, movie nights with perry, drinking coffee, driving on open road at night, rugby & american football (but only if he’s playing it, otherwise he doesn’t give a shit), browsing car catalogues, boating, when he has more time off there are brief stints where i believe he’d be into making little plane and car models, painting flowers.
▌EVER HURT ANYONE BEFORE:   he’s got more than one story about how in football he’d accidentally broken an opponent player’s nose or knocked the wind completely out of someone - and at the first school he transferred to in america, he ended up brawling with other boys all the time smh (though, i must add, he never started the fights)
▌EVER KILLED ANYONE BEFORE:   hell no. woods would cry before he did smth like that
▌ANIMAL THAT REPRESENTS THEM:   definitely wolf-like in how he dutiful he is: he recognises he is an important part of his ‘pack’ (the band) and values his position as such. he’s private, fiercely loyal, and more afraid of a stranger than they are of him. but he also has a really warm, loving side that is actually somewhat paternal and nurturing and can also be very playful with those he loves and holds close. but if you asked anyone else, i’m sure they’d see him as a bear - for many reasons lmao
▌WORST HABITS:   his propensity for drinking too much coffee, the way he can wear his thoughts on his face too much when it comes to irritation, foregoing pitstops if he possibly can when it comes to a tight tour schedule, underestimating himself, sometimes he can be a little overcautious when his anxiety is bubbling, his nitpicking when it comes to tidiness - especially ‘keeping the bus clean’.
▌ROLE MODELS:   tbh perry, his aunt, scott halpritt, frank o’hara, tolkien, perhaps a teacher from his past, and i think he’d really dig rob halford...
▌SEXUAL ORIENTATION:    gay as gay can be...
▌THOUGHTS ON MARRIAGE/KIDS:   marriage: he believes that if he’s to marry someone it’s perry and eventually i think they would have a ceremony of their own for fun but make it official as soon as it’s legal and they’d do it for benefits with their own twist. but kids? no sirree. he helps perry babysit friends’ children but his only involvement with younger people is when he becomes a visiting lecturer at high schools and does consulting prof stuff at community colleges.
▌FEARS:   suburbia... there’s just something about the sameness of the white upper middle class and their family ‘fronts’, especially in america, that irks him. he also has always had the fear that he would never be loved, truly, but finds he is quite wrong in that assumption.
▌STYLE PREFERENCES:    in youth his style is pretty conservative with the small expressional flare in the form of colour. through life he tends to lean towards mod-like fashion in three piece suits, turtlenecks, stripes, and solid primary colours of various tints and shades. however, while working on tour, he can be found in athletic-fitting tshirts (sometimes band merch or a black shirt with STAFF in white lettering) and comfortable working levis. he loves boots and some fine clothes, and takes special care in selecting elements that compliment through colour. occasionally, he embellishes with modest gold jewellery. leather is good too - especially in the 80s.. catch him with those leather jackets. and at least once in the 60s he had a pair of red leather trousers.
▌SOMEONE THEY LOVE:   all the people he considers pupils.
▌APPROACH TO FRIENDSHIPS:   he commonly waits for people to approach him - if he knows they’re interested in talking to him, he’ll spare his time, but he’s used to being sweet-talked for access to backstage. if he wants to befriend someone, he’s often too unsure, and if forced to confront, he’ll employ humour and be extra vigilant about his external impression due to anxiety.
▌THOUGHTS ON PIE:   he’s english... pies are life. especially if they’re meat pies... put that shit on toast just like them beans and crisps
▌FAVORITE DRINK:  sherry, vodka lemonades, black coffee, or yorkshire tea with a bit of cream... eventually he develops a taste for herbal teas when he has to wean himself off the caffeine.
▌FAVORITE PLACE TO SPEND TIME AT:  working on his car or his boat - don’t bother woods when he’s on his boat. or in the bath...
▌SWIM IN THE LAKE OR IN THE OCEAN:   ocean — he’s drawn to any large body of water, but there’s something about the tide he really enjoys.
▌THEIR TYPE:   thicker, shorter men with just enough build to show they’re a little physically active, anyone who has soft and understanding eyes, and those who are responsible but not so restrained and austere that they don’t know how to have a good time. he loves when a person can make him laugh, too.
▌CAMPING OR INDOORS:  woods prefers staying indoors but when it comes to camping, he’s no spring chicken and can set up a tent and a fire within the hour that you touch down. if you were on a survival show, you’d want to have woods on your team with his background.
tagged by: @sleazygoing my king thank u so much  tagging: literally anyone who wishes... perhaps @mancicon or @camillelafaye hehe

[HENRY GOLDING] — you see [OSCAR FARADAY] there? yeah, they’re [THE ISOLATO] and they’ve lived in Havenport for [FIVE YEARS]. [HE] is [HONEST] & [PRAGMATIC], even though most people think they’re [STOIC] & [RUDE]. (ooc: mousse, gmt+2, she/hers)
hi hello it’s me mousse, and this my grump of a son, Oscar! more of an introduction under the cut!
So, Oscar didn’t grow up in Havenport. He actually grew up in Fayetteville, NC. More accurately, he was conceived and left to fend for himself, till Child Services got involved.
He grew up in the foster system, being passed around from home to home because of various conflicts; mostly stemming from the fact that Oscar was a difficult child to care for. He was moody and passive, had issues with his temper and overall, he was a certified Mess of a kid.
The one thing he has always loved is books. Books were the only people who seemed to understand Oscar, and he devoured them as soon as he got his hands on them. To be lost in a book is to find himself, he would say.
It was at the age of 12, that he found himself being fostered by a kind, older couple, the Faradays. They owned a little bookstore in town, had recently lost their kids to adulthood, and were looking for a helper and a surrogate son to love. And Oscar seemed to find himself at home with them. The bookstore had become his safe place, and as the months went on, Mister Faraday would let the kid work behind the counter and lock up after hours.
At 14, he had been adopted by the Faradays, becoming their legal son and heir.
At 23, after finishing community college in Fayetteville, Oscar had to come to face his one and true fear; the fear of loss. Something he had never felt before, he didn’t even realise that he had someone to lose, and that was Missus Faraday, and her lifelong battle with chronic pain and debilitating illnesses. And when she passed, the man realised that he did in fact have a heart.
Being left with a sizeable inheritance, Oscar moved as far away from Fayetteville, hoping to leave North Carolina in particular. But a pitstop in a local beach town, the FOR SALE sign on the door of an old store, and somehow...it had become five years, and Oscar now owned Pageturner.
It’s his baby, his pet project, and with all the time he gives the store, you would wish he would give it to anyone else.

book asks: 4, 7, 12, 13
what sections of a bookstore do you browse? i make a beeline for adult sci-fi/fantasy with a quick pitstop in new fiction at barnes and noble lmao. I'm easily distracted by displays but just to browse in general I end up in the sci-fi/fantasy section. sometimes mystery/horror, and I'll often do a quick lap around YA fiction to see if any old favorite authors have anything new
is there a series/book that got you into reading? i taught myself to read off of "I'll Love You Forever," that picture book about a mom singing to her son through his life until she's old and he sings to her, and I never stopped once I started lol. I think thee first book I read where I was like "whoah this is incredible" was The Lightning Thief and you know what? I was right.
did you enjoy any compulsory high school readings? I liked a few! I love Macbeth, it's my favorite Shakespeare play, and we read that in high school. Also Great Gatsby, and To Kill a Mockingbird, which are two of my favorite classics. I Hated A Walk in the Woods though. I still get mad thinking about that stupid book.
do you have a goodreads? technically but I don't really use it lol. I made an account but I think I've added Maybe one book ever to it bc I just. don't think to log my reading

Can you do 55 for the prompts please? I feel like Natsu would go out of his way for Lucy like this and she'd be concerned🤣. Thank you!
Send Me a Pairing and Number: Nalu 55 (in italics)
Leave it to Natsu.
Lucy sighed as she allowed the Dragon Slayer to continue dragging her around town. He’d arrived at her doorstep in the early morning, instructing her that he’d planned a day together and all she had to do was go along with it. While part of her was apprehensive, the spirit wielder had gotten dressed for a day out in town, only to be surprised when Natsu wrapped his beloved scarf over her eyes.
Over the course of a few hours, he’d begrugingly tossed her over his shoulder and taken her to her favorite bookstore (buying her a book that she’d been eyeing for quite some time), her favorite bakery (splitting her favorite desert and purchasing another), even her favorite park. Each time he removed the scarf while they were enjoying their pitstops. Their day culminated in the two of them walking away from Magnolia and into the nearby woods. Natsu wrapped the scarf around his neck as the two of them stolled through the forest, hand and hand, talking about everything and anything like they always did. Night had fallen and they were guided by the flames engulfing the fire mage’s unoccupied fist. Their walk was brisk but Lucy was beyond shocked at their final destination.
“Our first date is a picnic on a beach under the stars? Have you swallowed a romance novel? Do I need to call a doctor?”  The two wizards had arrived at a small, isolated lake and Lucy couldn’t believe her eyes. There were a few torches spread across the bank, a blanket spread out in between. There was a wicker basket in the middle of the blanket, with a softer one folded up in the corner. Looking up gave them an unobstructed view of the heavens, each star pusling brightly as the Celestial Mage’s smile lit up just as brightly.
“No, I just knew you’d do that,” Natsu teased before dragging her over to their spot, kissing her firmly once they were seated. “Just wait until you see the rest of my surprise.”

August 3, 2019
Guys. I’m in bed before 10 with the TV OFF, my room clean, and a feeling of (mostly) peace. Let’s hope it doesn’t go away.
Today was an okay day, but this week overall was more of a challenging week. It’s definitely summer time, because it is prime flea season and my dog is STRUGGLING. I love him so much and I feel so bad for the little guy, all he does is scratch. I’ve given him a bath every 3 to 4 days and yet he still continues to itch. He’s in miserable and I don’t think he’s getting much sleep because of it either.
Let’s start at the beginning of the day. My pup woke me up around 6AM due to his excessive itching. I got up and gave him a Benadryl which shortly knocked him out for about an hour(?) or so. I was able to fall back asleep briefly while he did, but he soon woke back up and continued on scratching. Before I knew it, 8:45 came around and my morning alarm went off (even though I’d been on-and-off awake since about 6). Out of desperation, I hopped online to find some safe at-home flea remedies. I found one that put some water mixed with dish soap in a saucer, placed underneath a light or lamp of some sort. Apparently the fleas would be attracted to it because of the heat drawn off of the lamp. I got ready for work and guiltily left my itchy pup at home. My brother was home too, but he may as well not have been because that guy sleeps in until noon and he is completely helpless.
I got to work and did my thing. I’ve not been meeting my sales goals which has me worried about my numbers, but I’m trying not to stress too much about it. I need to give myself grace and more time. Today was the first Saturday of the month, and to my surprise, there were quite a few lulls. Although I miss working at the Christian bookstore, the nice thing about the bank is that, like the bookstore, it is also closed on Sundays and on Saturdays it closes at 2PM. I happily worked my 10:15-2:15 shift and headed on out to the rest of my weekend.
Before going home, I made a pitstop to the pet store near my work. I was determined to purchase a flea comb so I could weed out the fleas that were on my dog and hopefully alleviate some of his scratching. I spoke to a man who seemed to be the pet shop owner and we discussed the flea epidemic that is going on this summer. He said the flea problem is really bad this year and it actually started earlier than usual. He even told me that a lot of people are also being bitten, that’s how problematic the issue is. It was nice to find out that I’m not the only one burdened by this horrific problem, but if I could snap my fingers and eradicate fleas for good, I would in a heartbeat.
I got home, changed into comfies, ate a quick meal, and was on a mission to (hopefully) make a dent in this flea problem. My heart just aches for my pup because the poor cutie is just so uncomfortable. I went to the soapy water saucer I had placed in the carpet in my room earlier that morning and discovered that my elaborate trap caught one flea. Better than nothing. Besides that, I had a few things on my agenda that I wanted to attempt. I wanted to do a thorough vacuum of all the rugs and carpet in my house. I also recalled that years ago, my family had a carpet/floor steamer. After seeing that we still had it (thank God) I pulled it out, dusted it off, and to my satisfaction, it still worked. After a good vacuuming, I steamed the living room rug, my carpeted room, and my brother’s room too—twice. The other day I had also ordered some oatmeal dog shampoo online and it arrived today, but I just bathed my dog yesterday so I thought I’d wait until tomorrow to not irritate his skin too much.
So that's where we are with that whole mess. My little pup is asleep in my dad’s room (thanks to some Benadryl) and hopefully he gets some peace and rest tonight. I’ve been praying for God to make all the fleas go away so the cutie can be comfortable again.
Besides that, all I did today was go to dinner with my dad. We went to Applebee’s and also watched a bit of Avengers: Age of Ultron which we recorded a while back. I took melatonin about an hour-and-a-half ago and I’m really starting to get drowsy. I planned on reading a bit of Love Does but I’m feeling a little too tired, perhaps I’ll read what I can before dozing off. The same thing happened to me last night and I ended up reading one (short) chapter. I’m glad I’ve already washed up and that I’m ready for bed, and it’s only 10:30!

Quarantine asks: 22 and 27?
[ quarantine ask meme ]
22. What was your “phase” when you were younger? (i.e., Mythology Nerd, Horse Girl, Space Geek, etc)
i read this question and IMMEDIATELY went “what WAS my phase”
cause see i did the thing where i was interested in whatever my friends were interested in. i had one friend who was super into mythology and the percy jackson series, and i still like to collect and read stories from different mythologies. (i have a book on various native american myths/legends that i bought once on a whim, but havent actually read properly yet). i had another friend who got into fanfiction/story writing, so i read anything she sent me and got more into writing also (this eventually led to me joining roleplay groups on deviantart in my senior year of high school).
i guess my phase could be called “Loving My Friends’ Interests”????
27. What section do you immediately head for when you walk into a bookstore?

Trump’s Scottish resort hosted military for longer stays

VIP pins, Scottish shortbread and plush surroundings greet officers who choose Trump Turnberry for their layovers.
TURNBERRY, SCOTLAND— Air Force officers who have earned medals for their tours of combat theaters can pick up some more brass with a short pitstop in Southwest Scotland.
As part of its relationship with the Air Force, President Donald Trump’s Turnberry resort occasionally gifts high-ranking officers a version of its “Pride Pin,” a lapel pin featuring the property’s iconic lighthouse — an honor reserved for VIPs — upon their arrival, according a resort staffer familiar with the practice.
Story Continued Below
Rank-and-file members can expect a more basic welcome package in their rooms, featuring goodies like Scottish shortbread.
A five-day visit to Turnberry and the surrounding region revealed that the regular visits from Air Force crews on layovers from Prestwick Airport have become a major facet of the life of the resort. It also revealed that, rather than being restricted to single-night refueling stops, some visits last multiple nights, expanding the known dimensions of the relationship between the president’s luxury resort and the U.S. military.
One reason for the multi-night stays, which were described by a half-dozen staffers, is inclement weather that prevents the crews from taking off from the airport 40 minutes up the road. In at least one instance earlier this year, a crew was laid up for multiple nights while their plane underwent repairs, allowing them to hit the links on Turnberry’s world-class course and purchase mementos from the pro shop, where a child’s golf shirt runs 55 British pounds, about $68 at the current exchange rate.
A Trump Organization spokeswoman, Amanda Miller, did not respond to an email requesting comment.
The extended contact has allowed service members to bond with staff, who are tickled that the airmen sometimes address them as “sir” or “ma’am,” rather than vice versa. Occasionally friendships continue on social media.
While crews were spotted here this summer, one longtime staffer said that they more frequently show up in the winter low season, and stay at the lodges — more spacious, freestanding structures downhill of the main hotel, which looks out over the seashore. They usually show up in uniform and at night, sometimes pulling up to the ornate stone fountain fronting the lobby entrance as late as 2 a.m.
Earlier this month, POLITICOreportedthat the Air Force had been putting up flight crews at the resort, prompting widespread scrutiny of the relationship between Trump’s private business, the U.S. military, and the Scottish government-owned Prestwick Airport, which has struggled for years to achieve commercial viability.
On Friday morning at 10 a.m., the airport’s spacious terminal was empty save for a few staff, and a WHSmith bookstore stood closed. Prestwick Aviation Services, the office that books the Turnberry stays on behalf of the military, referred a reporter to the airport information desk, which in turn referred to airport spokeswoman Nicola Taylor-Barr, who declined to answer questions.
News about the airport has put the Scottish government on the defensive over its relationship with a president who is unpopular in the country.
Philippa Whitford, a member of Scotland’s ruling Scottish National Party who represents the area around Prestwick in the British parliament, sought to deflect scrutiny to the other side of the Atlantic, citing a statement from the airport that it only books Turnberry when the military requests it or other accommodations are not available.
“I understand the disquiet of Air Force people staying over at Turnberry,” she said. “I’m just not really sure in what way Prestwick is to blame.”
Instead, Whitford said, it is the U.S. military that should face further questions about the arrangement. “What are crew being told? Are they being told, ‘Ask for Turnberry’? Are they being told, ‘You may ask for Turnberry’?”
At 20 miles distant, Turnberry is further from Prestwick than most of the other hotels used to house airmen and significantly more opulent. But staff at several of the hotels near the airport shrugged at the business being sent to their competitor.
“It’s not unusual at all,” said Robert Muir, a manager at the Adamton House in Monkton, a rambling, 265-room country estate little more than a stone’s throw from Prestwick. Muir said the hotel had last turned down an Air Force booking request from Prestwick for lack of space the week before. He said the airport regularly books Air Force crews at the Glasgow Marriott, which he described as the largest hotel in the region, and which, like Turnberry, is also a 40-minute drive from Prestwick.
At the Mercure Hotel in Ayr, a town four miles from the airport, a receptionist said the hotel, which is regularly used by the Air Force, too, was often full.
Prestwick has hosted U.S. military flights for decades — Adamton House displays a 2004 thank you note from the 187thAirborne Infantry Division — but it struck a deal meant to increase flight traffic at the end of the Obama administration, not long after it reached an arrangement with the Trump Organization to send more guests to Turnberry. The Air Force has said its crews have made roughly40 staysat Turnberry since 2015, but has not specified how many of those have occurred since Trump took office in January 2017. The resort was closed for renovations from September 2015 to June 2016.
The House Oversight Committee began probing the Air Force’s use of the resort earlier this year. Following POLITICO’s report, the Air Force opened its own internal review of the matter.
While staying at Turnberry, the crews mostly stay on resort grounds. Aside from servers at the Balkenna Tea Room, a mile from the resort, who said they had served uniformed service members of unknown nationality within the past week, staffers at the handful of establishments in the resort’s vicinity said they were unaware of a regular military presence there.
Occasionally, Air Force members in civilian clothes venture into the nearby countryside to visit Culzean Castle, where Dwight Eisenhower was once given permanent use of an apartment, or to dine on Indian food in the nearby town of Girvan.
They are not the resort’s only conspicuous guests. Earlier this summer, according to a staffer, a group of Saudi royals stayed at the resort for about a week at the tail end of extended travel, bringing a party of 25 people and more than a hundred pieces of luggage.
Despite the controversy around the stays, and Trump’s generally strained relationship with the country, locals near both Prestwick and Turnberry mostly expressed gratitude for the jobs and investment he has brought to the region.
“I appreciate the fact he gets local tradesmen in,” said Gloria Miller, who has worked as a baker for half a century in Girvan. She said Trump has been the best caretaker of the storied resort that she has seen yet.
Though Trump has put his ownership interest in the Trump Organization into a trust, which is managed by his sons Don Jr. and Eric, the president can withdraw money from it any time.
For his part, Trump, amid all the controversy over the business steered to his company by U.S. officials, political allies and foreign governments, has maintained that he is no longer involved in running the Trump Organization.
And at Turnberry, there were at least some signs of the operation’s independence from its namesake owner.
While Trump’s campaign hasmade hayover its opposition to paper straws, painting them as liberal nonsense, Turnberry introduced them over the summer, phasing out plastic ones. At the snack bar inside the course’s trademark lighthouse, they have also recently instituted bamboo cutlery, marketed as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic. The move has drawn complaints from customers, especially when they try to eat soup.
Natasha Bertrand and Bryan Bender contributed to this report.

DAY 3
Location: Guangzhou Museum
Time: 11:00
Mode of Transport: Guangzhou Metro
We had the opportunity to visit Mucha and the others: Treasures of Art Nouveau, where I got to see how modern art progressed, one of my very first thought when I saw the exhibition was “These artworks have definitely influenced the graphic design movement in posters.” the fact that I can see how modern it is for something that came out in the 18th Century brings me to awe. Unfortunately, I did not visit the rest of the other exhibition, instead I went out and looked around at the architecture of the other nearby buildings. With it being a Sunday and park, the whole area was filled with families and friends enjoying their Sunday.
Location: REDTORY
Time: 14:50
Mode of Transport: Guangzhou Metro
After the museum we visited an area called REDTORY, which used to be an old industrial factory which then turned an arts and design hub for young local’s hangout, have some tea and take some pictures. The whole stretch is filled with people like my age trying to get that insta-money-shot or maybe for them would it would be WeChat-money-shot. Visiting some cafe’s, bookstores and shops, I was able to enjoy a few minutes from our busy schedule and just people watch, without looking for anything.
Location: Shangxiajiu Road
Time: 17:20
Mode of Transport : Guangzhou Metro
The last pitstop of the day was Shangxiajiu Road, which was way more different than Beijing Road. With much more people flooding the streets, a lot more local vendors and more street food! It was chaos to say the least and I kind of liked it just for an experience. As we walked around we were able to see a lot - and I mean a lot - of imitations, but one particular vendor caught our eye and it was a shop lot that looked like NIKE, it even had its swoosh logo as it signage, and I’ll be honest I was fooled into thinking that NIKE actually opened up a store on that particular street, and after having a closer look at the products, we couldn’t help but crack a smile as we looked around. It was clearly fake with spelling errors on shoes like WANIKE. We decided to look around more and get taste buds treated to some barbequed squid, oysters and some chicken.

Bookstores: Kepler's Books
Read more BOOKSTORE POSTS   Read my books at Kepler’s
Kepler’s bookstore has been part of my life for many decades. The first place my family lived when we moved from Taiwan to the United States in the early 1980s was Sunnyvale California. I am sure that my mother, as an avid reader, visited Kepler’s bookstore in Palo Alto with me in tow. But although I was in fourth or fifth grade, I have no memory of visiting Kepler’s at that time. Instead, my first memories of visiting Kepler’s are on post-college road trips from Washington State to California, when we made regular pitstops in Silicon Valley, stayed with friends or family in the area for a night or two, and visited Kepler’s on the way.
Why visit Kepler’s? Because it was the best and richest book experience in the south San Francisco area – a book refuge in the middle of the intellectually barren software and hardware technology companies. For over 60 years, Kepler’s has been a major intellectual and cultural hub for the Peninsula. On my peripatetic travels through northern California, I always made a point of stopping at Kepler’s.
One particularly significant stop was in 1993, when I did a solo 1500 mile bicycle traverse of the West Coast, from southern California to northern Washington — all the riding time completed in 12 days flat (on some days, I topped 200 miles pedaled!). The days on which I wasn’t riding were spent with family or friends in California, Oregon and Washington. And at my favorite haunts, including restaurants I enjoyed and beautiful bookstores I knew and loved on the West Coast.
On one particularly memorable hot August day, I bicycled over the Diablo mountain range from the Merced area, and down the other side into San Jose and then on to Palo Alto Valley, where I stayed overnight with a cousin who was in graduate student housing at Stanford University. The next day I peddled over to Kepler’s to pay my allegiance to the best bookstore in the region. In my sweat-stained biking togs I must’ve been an interesting sight, but I still walked out with at least one hardcover (Anne Tyler’s Saint Maybe, as I remember) that I put in my bicycle panniers and subsequently toted with me all the way to Seattle Washington. The book made for some great evening reading by my campfire.
Find my books at Kepler’s Bookstore
Even though I’d been a fan and a regular for many years, I didn’t know the storied history of the bookstore until quite recently. Here’s a brief version — Kepler’s Books was founded in Menlo Park in May 1955 by peace activist Roy Kepler. Along with Cody’s in Berkeley and City Lights in San Francisco, Kepler’s led the paperback revolution in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 50’s and 60’s. According to their website, Kepler’s “soon blossomed into a cultural epicenter, attracting a loyal following among Beat intellectuals, pacifists, students and faculty of Stanford University, and other members of the surrounding communities, interested in serious books and ideas.” In fact, the Grateful Dead performed at Kepler’s early in their career, and they, along with folk singer Joan Baez, often appeared at Kepler’s holding impromptu salons with local community leaders to discuss ideas, political action, and music.
After the 60s were over, Kepler’s continued with a new generation. In 1980, Roy’s son, Clark Kepler, took over the management of the bookstore. In 1989, Kepler’s moved to its current location in the Menlo Center on El Camino Real. Under Clark’s leadership, Kepler’s expanded its role in the community, developing new partnerships and programs, and winning multiple awards nationally and locally. In 1990 Publishers Weekly named Kepler’s “Bookseller of the Year.”
As the technology revolution swept across the country and changed how people buy things, the bottom line dropped out of Kepler’sbookselling business. Amazon had taken a significant bite out of the paperback market. (Oddly enough in the early 1990s, I had the opportunity for a job in the early days of Amazon.com, but I didn’t pursue it because I felt it would take time away from writing novels. I was right on the novel writing front, but wrong on the potential positive impact that an early role as a booksite editor at Amazon would’ve had on my life.) In any case, the advent of Amazon and the box big sellers such as Barnes and Noble had a massive negative impact on small bookseller such as Kepler’s.
In 2006, Kepler’s announced it was closing -– the only independent bookseller in the greater Silicon Valley region now dead. Fortunately, there was a massive outcry of protest from the literary public. People knew that they needed a bookstore in Silicon Valley.
Thus, the Kepler’s Literary Foundation was born, and Kepler’s bookstore resurrected! A new organization — the Kepler’s Literary Foundation — was formed to create events, readings, and additional experiences associated with literate culture, and keep the Kepler’s experience alive for future generations.
In the last 2000s, I was fortunate to visit the re-vivified Kepler’s bookstore on a nearly weekly basis for a few years. For many years, I’ve worked for large technology companies who have bases of operation in Silicon Valley, from Adobe to Microsoft to Xerox PARC and Intel. Between 2007-2012, I worked variously as the CEO of a small technology company funded in part by investors in Silicon Valley and as a principal product lead for an R&D team at Xerox PARC, located in Palo Alto, (more on my tech career here).
Find my books at Kepler’s Bookstore
When I worked in Palo Alto, I commuted down from my home in Washington state on a weekly basis (my “super commute” was even covered in the Seattle Times). While I was on the road to Palo Alto every week, I made a regular habit of stopping at Kepler’s bookstore to attend author readings, buy books, and check on what new releases piqued my interest. Eventually, my work at Xerox PARC ended and I sold off my interest in the Valley-funded tech company.
But now, as a senior manager at Intel — whose headquarters are in Santa Clara — I have fresh excuses to check in at Kepler’s on a nearly monthly basis (Intel, after all, is kind enough to provide a free air shuttle to all employees for trips to the Valley, and I supervise several team members who are based in the Santa Clara office). So Kepler’s bookstore is once again a big part of my life.
I stopped at Kepler’s most recently a few months ago, to organize a reading near to where many of my friends work in Santa Clara and Palo Alto. I ran into the the wonderful poet Charif Shanahan — we share a publisher and have co-presented at readings before — and it was lovely to catch up with Charif in person. I’m also currently a student at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, so I have more reason to be in Silicon Valley, and I’m hoping to do a reading at Kepler’s soon. Along with the rest of the reading community in the Silicon Valley region, I am excited to see where the Kepler’s Foundation takes the future of this important bookstore.
Kepler’s Books is one of my literary touchstones, and I’m happy to share that bookstore experience with my readers! Enjoy!
I feel at home when I visit Kepler's Books in Palo Alto, one of my favorite bookstores, now funded by a wonderful foundation of interested readers. @Keplers #books #bookstores
