My New Boss Is Goofy Episode 1 Review - When Your Boss Is Too Cute
My New Boss Is Goofy is not associated with Disney in any way; I’m sorry if you were actually expecting the real Goofy to show up. This anime is rather cute and comforting. This is actually one of my most anticipated watches for this season because I just needed some comfort in my life. It’s also the first time I am watching workplace comedy. While this looks to be BL, it’s actually a Josei manga.
Anyways, the story is a bit basic. Kentaro Momose has changed jobs after his previous workplace was abusive. The previous workplace has caused him to have mental stress and chronic stomach pain. He’s also very guarded as a result, so his first day at work makes him very tense as he met his new boss. Shirosaki looked very stern but he’s actually very air-headed. He makes very careless mistakes outside of work and the way he reacts is so adorable that it eases Momose’s nerves and eventually becomes a source of comfort in his new work life.
Regardless of the story being basic, I love how the comedy of Shirosaki’s air-headed mishaps aren’t obnoxious or over-exaggerated. Instead, they’re very cute and not as repetitive as I expected. I was expecting the seeing similar mistakes, but the writer did a very good job making Shirosaki’s air-headedness charming. Some of his mistakes are also totally relatable because I’ve made similar mistakes in the past. The part where Shirosaki accidentally talked to the stranger when getting ice cream got to me like that awkward situation happened to me several times in the past.
Despite Shirosaki’s mistakes being the key focus for this show, I do like how it also gives insight to Momose as a character. He’s so anxious and timid due to work abuse from his previous job. It really hits home how bad abuse can be. Having a terrible boss really does kill the work mood. I felt so bad when he recalls the moment his boss ripped up one of his proposals to the point that he’s so anxious at the thought of them being brought up in the present. I know that these types of workplaces exist in Japan and outside. I hope that work tyranny ceases to be because bosses abusing their powers shouldn’t be a thing. I also hope that Momose can get the healing and confidence he needs at his new job.
Shirosaki is also shown to be more than an air-head. Despite his cute mistakes, he’s very insightful and is very considerate. He’s the one taking care of Momose as he takes him out to the aquarium and to the shopping district to show off the types of ads he had worked on in the past. He’s also the one encouraging Momose to try and write a proposal as he noticed how anxious he was when the topic was brought up. I’m sure everyone would want a boss like Shirosaki; I sure do!
I think Shirosaki’s attentiveness is thanks to Aoyama who seems to be as attentive towards him as Shirosaki is to Momose. I like Aoyama. I hope he shows up more. Given that he appears in the opening as one of the main characters, that is likely the case. I do really like how Aoyama cares so much about his workers. He popped a party popper to celebrate Shirosaki’s accomplishment and never mentioned his junior’s fish mistake for the past ten years.
The voice acting is great! If you’re familiar with Boeibu (Cute Earth Defense Club LOVE!), our four main leads are technically a Boeibu reunion! We have Kotaro Nishiyama and Yuichiro Umehara reunite as the main leads once again; they were Atsushi and En from Boeibu and Ryuichi and Kamitani from Gakuen Babysitters! I think this is the first time these two are together as adult leads since the previous two anime I mentioned revolve around high school students. Aoyama is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita who voiced Yumoto’s brother Gora. Sugita is normally known for his deep voice, but the fact that he’s using a softer, higher pitched voice for this character shows that he has range; there’s a reason why he’s such an amazing voice actor. The last of the main four has yet to be introduced, but he’s voiced by Jun Fukuyama who voiced Ibushi in Boeibu. I can’t wait to see the last guy and the cat!
The animation is all soft and I love the color choices! I usually associate A-1 with action-packed anime, so for them to animate a workplace comedy like this makes me wonder why they chose it. I’m sure the animators over there want to animate something cute once in a while, I bet. The music’s pretty decent too! The opening and endings are so cute!
I’ll be continuing on with this anime until the end. I enjoyed what I saw today! I can’t wait to see more of Shirosaki’s mistakes and freak out over how relatable they are with my own; maybe I’ll even reveal more embarrassing Ecargmura stories! I’ve got plenty of air-headed goof ups. Anyways, what are your thoughts about this anime’s premiere?

like if u look at what came out after madoka like ACTUALLY peep at what came out u quickly realize no it... didn't cause a revolutionary wave of "different" magical girl series lol... like... the main "edgy" mg stuff that came out that actually made waves after was mgrp, mg site, and yuuki yuuna. and people only liked mgrp and yuuki yuuna. i wouldn't exactly call that revolutionizing the genre and changing the landscape
the other "different" mg series that came out that actually made any waves were like, mg ore and boeibu which are parodies and clearly madoka wasn't on the radar lmfao. we had klk except nobody was calling Thee Next Big mg show until After the fact when y'all decided it was cool to talk about how much u like magical girls and if we gotta blame any mg show for that shit existing it's probably cutey honey lmao.
that's just the stuff that anyone actually cared about bc as far as other like not cutesy/kiddie mg there was uhhhh fuck. *checks wikipedia again lmao* day break illusion. nobody watched that shit moving on. we had/still have jesus christ 6HP which is just a whole mess and a half, vividred operation which was just horny, uhhhhhhhh okay there's spec ops asuka which is apparently very horny and very edgy no one fucking watched that tho so who cares like everything else i'm seeing is like so nothing who gives a shit and none of them give "madoka vibes" in terms of like tone and aesthetic. the only other one is maybe black flop shooter but that shit was around for a minute like it's obviously got nothing to do with this lol

A random thought:
I appreciate everyone making theories and dissecting the symbolism and generally using their brain but bro I came here for hot guys in skimpy clothing and I’m gonna stay with it. Fairy Ranmaru is on brain is off. I honestly don’t care if I miss a huge chunk of it this isn’t media analysis class. There isn’t a right or wrong way to enjoy something.
An unpopular opinion:
I’m not interested in Sirius/Chilka (are they the same person?) and his relationship to Ranmaru. At all. Same goes for the queen. I’ll see what happens with them and I’ll probably be fine with it but it’s not what I’m really here for.

How I feel about this character:
First thing I noticed, and still notice, is that he’s CUTE. In both appearance (human form) and behavior. He’s an interesting mix of being emotionally intelligent and observant and seemingly spacing out and not noticing things around him at all. His fairy form is the most generic of the ones we’ve seen, and arguably least interesting, and it’s weird it’s the one that draws me in the most. I said earlier that I don’t care about his and Sirius’s past but I do think there’s something huge about Ramaru we don’t know yet and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to what it is.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:
I’m a bit peeved OP apparently doesn’t know the word brotp, this is a mouthful There’s something intriguing about whatever little we know about his relationship to Takara. Takara clearly knows something Ranmaru doesn’t, and Ranmaru can’t get under his skin like he can with the others because Takara seemingly has more experience and reacts differently to Ramaru not knowing his full story.

When you think about it, Light fits the mahou shoujo tropes in a twisted way. He gained powers and a magical guardian through a magical object found randomly. He resorts to vigilantism so he can fulfill a noble purpose. He deals with villains everyday while keeping up with his civilian life. He had to deal with another mahou shoujo and villain lackeys showing up. His antagonist is a big boss hiding in the shadows. Only difference is that the police and the world are much more involved.
…even then, is that really a difference when you take things like Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne into account, where the police is also heavily featured? Or Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch where all the magical girls actually rule own countries? Or Tokyo Mew Mew A La Mode where public perception features as an enemy into the plotline? There’s a lot of magical girl stuff that goes into this somewhat.
Thinking about it like this, a parody doujinshi that plays on DN in the tone of magical girl manga is probably out there… I would enjoy seeing this played straight actually, haha. As in “not obvious parody stuff, the parody is just subtle through knowledge of the original material while the doujinshi itself doesn’t break with the shoujo writing style at all”.

Watched episodes 2 & 3 of Boeibu LOVE! with my little brother last night (he did ep 1 previously) and like????? I LOVE it so much??? it's been a minute since I had watched any but I got SO HYPE when the OP started, like it was WILD
Also Kurotori is defs one of my favourite monsters-of-the-week, hands down
And the harpsichord music for the student council??? STUNNING.

If you haven’t watched RobiHachi yet you really should.
It’s fuckin hilarious and like, i expected space comedy hijinks since the basic premise is ‘Robby is on the run through space from debt collectors and trying to reach some alleged paradise planet’ and it’s directed by the same guy who did Boeibu which explains A LOT about it and the humour in it honestly.
Also I’m not entirely unconvinced that it’s not part romcom as well because just, jfc.
It’s hilarious and I need more people to watch this show with me.

My New Boss Is Goofy Episode 12 Review + Final Thoughts - A Christmas Party To Remember
Why are all the good animes ending this week! First, The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons and now this! Why must this week make me suffer? I don’t want this show to end! All good things must come to an end? Who came up with that saying? Come here and fight me for making that phrase.
Unfortunately, this is the last episode of this show. This was a super adorable show. The finale is a Christmas-themed episode where the main cast have a Christmas party, exchange gifts, and Momose finally moves out. I always liked Christmas-themed episodes because they’re always heartwarming in a way. In some Asian countries, Christmas is more of a lovers’ holiday, there were a lot of romantic elements sprinkled in between Shirosaki and Momose. I did notice that Shirosaki and Momose got presents for Hakutou but not for each other.
The Christmas party between the main quartet was super nice. That was a lot of food Shirosaki prepped. The way they randomized the gift exchange was so cute too! Just seeing these guys be chill and have fun was super nice to see! Even though, it’s usually like this, I feel like the cuteness amped up due to the festivities.
The real “conflict” of this episode is Momose finally deciding the right place and thus, going to move out. The one who is most conflicted with this is none other than Shirosaki. While he enjoys the time he spent with Momose, he finds it hard to let him go; like Momose, he knows that once he moves out, his life won’t be the same. They would only see each other at work and no longer spend as much time together as before. The place he was going to move into was near Kumatte Land, and very far from Shirosaki’s place. I felt so emotional when Hakutou started crying as he jumped onto Momose; he loves him a lot. Shirosaki grabbing onto Momose’s leg was so bittersweet too.
In a sudden plot twist, Momose manages to move into the building next to Shirosaki’s apartment, where they can see each other perfectly fine. I honestly both expected and did not expect that turn of event at all. I knew there was going to be some twist given the nature of this show, but I didn’t expect it to be so up front with it. Like what Hakutou said, give me back my tears!
It’s hard to let this show go. This was one of my favorites for this season. It’s highly unlikely that a season 2 will be made as most of the stuff has been up to date. All I can do is imagine the sort of life Shirosaki, Momose and Hakutou will have now that they are neighbors. What are your thoughts for this finale?
Final Thoughts
This was one of my anticipated shows for this season just due to the premise and art alone. It really lighted up my weekend a lot. While it was a overshadowed by the bigger titles, I still believe that this show held on its own.
I was surprised when I heard that Yuichiro Umehara and Kotaro Nishiyama were reuniting as leads for a new anime; I loved them in School Babysitters and Boeibu! And then seeing other big names like Tomokazu Sugita, Jun Fukuyama and Hiro Shimono was a big factor for me to watch; Shouta Aoi is even there too! You can’t say no to a cast like that. I think they all did well in this anime. I just hope that Nishiyama gets more roles in the future; his voice is so soothing to listen to as it’s a mix of energetic and soft. Hopefully, this role will help catapult him into getting more work. He deserves it. If I had to pick a stand out of these five, I’d give it to Shimono for making adorable cat noises.
I was surprised when I learned A-1 was animating since they’re mainly known for action anime and not joseimuke/iyashikei anime like this. Despite that, it was surprisingly well-animated. I especially loved the color choices. I hope that A-1 gets the chance to animate more shows like this in the future; they have a knack for it.
Would I recommend this show? To anyone who wants to watch a feel-good slice of life comedy, I would totally recommend it.
