Mando thoughts so far
Tumblr media
I feel like I am not alone in thinking this, but I feel like I'm holding onto the ride that is the mandalorian for this new season but so far feel a bit disappointed and shortchanged in what we have seen so far? Don't get me wrong I am happy to see our beloved father son duo back together again but many of these episodes feel out of place/rushed/not contributing to the arc of the new season. Maybe it is just feeling like this season has not been devoted to a specific arc as of yet so it all feels all over the place?

where have you been. this show hsnt been episodic day-in-the-life since mid s2. and all s3 trailers have made it seem like its gonna be entirely about a civil war plot which is the opposite of day-in-the-life

Finally finished another Rexsoka, this time in live action! 😊 I drew these in two stages—on two different pieces of paper and months apart (the Ahsoka half was done first). There's a metaphor in there somewhere... I used refs from her appearance in Mando and a Tem shot from BoBF.
(Obviously I was hoping to see something like this moment in the trailer, but fingers crossed...) 😬
Please do not repost, but reblogs are welcome! 😀

So what's the point of Din and Grogu this season? What's the point of cutting away from Boba Fett's story to show how Din is struggling with the DarkSaber, without him overcoming that? We'll he doesn't want that responsibility, he just wanna be a ✨Space Dad✨. Bruh, he's already a space dad in the first season. He started as reluctant space dad in the first season. Then in season 2 he fully embraces his status as a space dad, yet he still has a goal to return Grogu to it's people, at the same time challenging his beliefs. Sure he doesn't wanna be a leader, fine, but at least give him something more than just a space dad, because he already redeemed himself in the first 2 episode of this, so what the fuck are his goals this season?
"I don't wanna have him be the leader, I just wanted him to have a space adventure with his son" They are already doing that in the first 2 seasons, and if that's what you only want from him in this season, then he's gonna be a stagnant and boring character.
"I'm tired of the reluctant leader trope, let him be a normal guy," I am too, but then again, what's the point of setting it up in Season 2 and BoBF, if your not gonna follow through. But if that's the original goal, then what's your plan with his character then. Redeeming himself? Bruh, we barely struggle with that one
"People missed the point, he just wanna be a background character, he doesn't want attention" Yes we know, and we love him for that, and that's what made him special, but even those times, he still has a motivation and story to tell, here, he was just being sideline, which goes back to my original question, "Why is he here?" I know that he's not a passive character, and his choices still affect the overall story, but so does other the characters. Give us a moment that we'll have us say, that, "Yup that's Din, and that's why he is here." Because the moment that he choose to save Grogu in chapter 3, and both times that he removes his helmet, are those moments that we realized why are we rooting for this guy. And so far this season, he doesn't have that moment yet.
"It's called the Mandalorian, not Din and Grogu show, it's Bo-Katan's turns since technically she's a Mandalorian" Then what's with the promotionals and trailers that you have released leading up to that season, which barely show Bo. And I know that it's probably for marketing, they knew that we are here only for those two, and basically bamboozled us. Have they called this The Bo-Katan show and have it package to us that way, I would have no issue with them being sideline.
And dont get me started with Grogu. He is no longer a plot device, he is not mc guffin anymore, it's time we gave him a character.
The reason why we fall in love with the show in the first place is because of the relationship between Din and Grogu. And the writers clearly forgot that part. Don't get me wrong if they don't want Din to be a leader and just a ✨ Space dad✨ I'm on board with it. But please give us that properly and not just the scraps and bare minimum just to justify them being in here. They're barely interacting in this season. We didn't even get to see Din's reaction when the armorer made the new piece of armor for Grogu with their clan's signet. Heck it was not even acknowledge by Din, making me wonder if that's only created for just merch. We didn't even linger on Grogu after the flashback, like after next scene it was already forgotten. Imagine how beautiful it would be when Din returns and sees how sad Grogu is, and how he tried to cheer him up by giving the ball (which for a very important object in their relationship from the previous season, was not yet shown here). We barely got a moment between this two, just hanging out and enjoying each other's company because they have to be dragged to a plotline that they're barely connected just to justify them being here. It's a problem when they have more intimate moments in season 2 than this season considering that they were separated midway through that season. If you're not interested in moving his character forward, and has barely shown the relationship that we cared about, I'd rather have their story ends now, instead of them being static wallpapers only here for merch.
I know that Bo Katan and other characters from the animated show are loved as well, but they wouldn't even be here without those two, and it breaks my heart, that they're being shafted for those characters. They deserved more than this.

Mando S3 trailer looks great  but here’s a funny story. i’ll try to keep it short, but i could write a novel on my distaste for Disney’s decision-making here.
anyways, so today i went thru reddit, just to see people’s reactions, comments, etc., and happened to check the comment section of the S# trailer posted in a subreddit that was NOT star wars related (it was either in r/videos or r/television, some general non-star-wars subreddit)
and SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SO CONFUSED
BECAUSE THEY HAVEN’T BOTHERED TO WATCH BOOK OF BOBA FETT YET
SO THEY WERE WONDERING WHY “DIN AND GROGU ARE ALREADY BACK TOGETHER???” AND “WHY ISN’T SEASON 3 PICKING UP WHERE SEASON 2 LEFT OFF???”
some of you may even be in this boat too!! and that’s ok!! it’s not your fault!!
it’s Disney’s fault. because they should never have inserted their big reunion storyline/moment within BoBF. such a huge mistake, imo. they should have left it for Mando S3. and they should have left Boba’s show... TO BOBA.
and all these poor confused people are proof of that.

While I do like Favreau enough, I am disappointed about his excuse for the Darksaber plot point basically being dropped. ''Din was never meant to lead, it's evident because if you notice in BOBF, the Darksaber is heavy for him'' feels very lazy, and a bit condescending to the audience. Din struggling with the saber because he is untrained and bothered is not genius subtext writing, it's a basic start for character development. He just basically agrees that Din doesn't need that development in his eyes, he's not good with the Darksaber so obviously he can't be the rightful leader! Like... wtf? You have such a huge door open for a great character journey (that you could even spread on several seasons if you want), yet you just... close it? I don't understand that choice. I just don't. And then going about how we shouldn't have expected a rivalry between Bo and Din, or any Darksaber plot, when this was both teased in the trailer AND literally set up in season 2's finale. What happened in the writers room I have no idea, but how could they mess up the main character's storyline so bad.. it's like they completely forgot who and what the Mandalorian was. It's very jarring.
You're 100% right, and I felt the same way when I heard him say that. Especially the comment about Aragorn because... y'all... you know I was drawing those direct comparisons for a whiiiiiile.
I was disappointed because I love Jon and the way he's written this story so far, and honestly, parts of season 3 really could've worked if he hadn't just resolved Din's story so quickly. It could have been drawn out to the last episode and it would've worked, and it would've been a huge time period of growth for him - of how he can still be an influential Mandalorian without being in the good graces of his tribe.
The Darksaber, though, has definitely just been a frustrating plot point. I'm honestly glad it was destroyed, because looking back now, it's just a headache in Din's story. Him having it literally had no payoff. All it did was act as a symbol of the burden of leadership that Din really didn't want.

One thing that I think has to happen in Mandalorian Season 3 is that Din Djarin will have to lose/sacrifice his armor.
This isn’t (just) for shallow reasons, though I’d love to see Din have to navigate a fight scene where his usual technique of “take what would be massive amounts of damage but survive due to armor” doesn’t work.
But because, based on the trailer, season 3 of the Mandalorian seems to be about atonement.  I think most of us would agree that while it’s understandable for Din to want to reconcile with his covert, it’s pretty unreasonable that the man should have to atone for taking off his helmet to save a child, or to say goodbye to one.
But Din DOES have something pretty major to GENUINELY atone for.  And it’s in an episode that is very helpfully called “the Sin”.
I’ve found that episode title fascinating because, at least as far as I know, the Star Wars universe doesn’t really seem to HAVE a concept of sin.  There’s religion, in a sense (and I love that Disney-era characters all seem to swear by the Force), and there are actions that lead to the dark side.  There’s morality.  But I don’t think we’ve really encountered the idea of “sin” anywhere.
But that’s the episode title.  And it’s the episode where Din Djarin hands a baby over to the empire for Beskar.
And of course, he changes his mind immediately.  And of course he went back for the child.  But he still did it.  And he’s still wearing the product of that sin into battle.  The “knight in shining armor” means one thing to the audience, and something similar undoubtedly to the people Din’s helped over the course of two seasons (and BoBF), but it’s a shine that was bought in blood.  So to speak.  The product of a corrupt deal, then reneged on.
So I think, symbolically speaking, Din has to lose that armor.  More properly, I think he’ll have to sacrifice it.   It’s weighing him down in many many more ways than one.  You can’t be a hero wearing armor bought with the blood of your child, and I think deep down, Din Djarin probably knows that.

Random rant:
I'm really hoping that the Ahsoka series will be amazing, since Ahsoka's one of my favorite characters and I loved her from TCW movie, and even in the Mandalorian and BoBF, but honestly, I'm dreading it instead of looking forward to it.
The montrals and makeup still look so weird in the trailer, and I barely recognized live-action Sabine and Hera. I'm pretty upset that they seem to be going the Thrawn-the-villain route instead of Ezra-Thrawn-Begruding-Allies route. I feel like the characters looked a lot better animated, and the live-action feels really unnecessary and off.
Anyway, not really trying to doompost or be a downer, but more wondering if anyone else feels similar?

New Ahsoka trailer thoughts
I'm rly excited for the Ahsoka show and I hope that it will be much better than the recent SW shows that have been released (Andor is the exception). However, after seeing the new trailer that just dropped, I can't help but feel worried. Imo most of the dialogue in the trailer sounds cliche and cringy. The visuals from the trailers look amazing thankfully. I tend judge how good a show is based off the writing and the dialogue in the new Ahsoka trailer comes across as stiff and mediocre. My other main concern is the potential for an overload of fan-service instead of giving the audience a good and engaging story. Recently Disney has been doing that in other Star Wars shows (Mandalorian S3, Obi Wan, and BoBF) and MCU projects and I've gotten really frustrated with this. Hopefully, I will be proven wrong but for now, I'm going to be cautious going into the show

I know I’m a bit late, but I just watched the 1st 3 eps of Star Wars Andor
So spoilers (for Andor and Rogue One)…
I hadn’t really seen Andor on my Tumblr dash so honestly, I wasn’t sure what to think. I watched OWK (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and honestly, I thought it could’ve been better. I’ll do another post on my thoughts on OWK but I really wanted to talk about Andor (because I haven’t really seen anyone talk about it??). So because I was slightly disappointed with OWK, I was skeptical about Andor (despite the trailer). Because we know that pretty much everyone dies in Rogue One, I thought Andor was a bit…out of order? Idk if that’s the right term. I thought Andor was similar to Marvel’s Black Widow movie tbh. It was good but because we already know that Cassian dies, events preceding Rogue One seem a little…unimportant? Again, I’m not sure if that’s the right word to use.
After watching the 1st 3 eps, despite the story going all over the place (there are so many characters they introduce), I actually kind of liked that? It reminded me of Game of Thrones. Mixing in the flashbacks of Cassian’s backstory (he’s like a tribal kid or something) also reminded me of TBoBF (The Book of Boba Fett) with the Tusken Raiders flashbacks. I liked BoBF tbh and I know a lot of people have mixed reviews about it, but I really enjoyed it, more so than OWK (honestly I like both shows, but I’m more knit-picky about OWK).
I think the only thing I’d change so far in Andor would be the addition of subtitles. I’d like to know what everyone’s saying in the tribal flashbacks. I know it’s supposed to be one of those things about understanding what’s happening just from setting/context/whatever, but I’d prefer subtitles because I, personally, have a hard time reading people’s emotions/expressions so when the kids all decided to check out the crashed ship and Cassian’s little sis had to stay behind, I was a bit confused as to what was happening/why they were going. I had to rewatch the flashback tribal scenes a couple times to really understand what was going on. Strange thing is, I really enjoy Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron, a movie where there is little dialog and the animals do not talk. I think maybe Andor could’ve done a little narration over the flashbacks if they were persistent about not using subtitles, similar to Spirit.
Also I really enjoyed the music and even if I couldn’t understand at some points what was going on, the music really helped set the tone for each scene. I think SW has always been pretty consistent having great music. People used to shit on the prequels but one thing no one ever said was the music was trash. Like Duel of the Fates and Battle of Heroes is amazing (TPM and RoTS respectively). Even in the Clone Wars series, I thought the music was great. It had such a mid-2000s vibe to it that I can’t really describe other than ‘mid-2000s’ lol. So I’m not surprised Andor would continue with the good music.
I know the first few episodes are supposed to be more world-building and exposition to explain what’s going on so I’m sure the episodes will seem more…put together, if that makes sense, as the season goes on. Also, I heard S2 was confirmed??? Lemme know if that’s true or not cuz I’m sure having an extra season also allows the writers/people involved to go as slow/detailed as they want with the world-building, but rn Andor just kinda seems all over the place.
I like that the Empire hasn’t really shown up yet either. I’m sure that’ll change as the season goes on as well, but I like that there’s more than one ‘evil’ presence. I’ll be real here and say that I’m not too sure who the guys in the blue uniforms are. They’re like the policing force on whatever planet Cassian was on (after the flashbacks and Cassian ends up killing 2 of the guys). If anyone knows who they are and if we’ve seen them before, please lemme know. But I like that they weren’t Empire (and if they are, sorry I didn’t pick up on that), though it seemed like they reported to the Empire?? Again, idk.
I don’t think I have any expectations going forward really, but one thing I do hope they show is how K2 and Cassian met and Cassian reprogramming him (like how Nick Nolte’s character on Mando reprogrammed that IG11 droid). But other than that, I don’t really have anything else I wanna see other than a good story lol. It doesn’t matter how pretty the settings are, how good the music is if the story sucks.
So I think that’s all of my main thoughts on Andor so far, which I’m sure will change once more episodes come out. In short, the story is just starting but because of how many new characters there are, the story seems a bit all over the place. I’d also like subtitles for any of the flashback tribal scenes (though with Maarva taking him at the end of ep3, I’m sure there won’t be so many long talking scenes w/o subtitles and she will teach him English/Basic? Idk if it’s Basic or Common). The music was good and the scenery/effects looked nice. I think maybe this show would’ve done better had it been released before Rogue One (because watching it all I could think about was how similar it was to Black Widow, not in the story but b/c the main characters die in movies released before). Overall, not bad and I think Andor’s better than OWK by ep3. I’m a bit surprised I haven’t really seen any posts on Tumblr about it.
I’d love to talk to anyone and hear your thoughts on the show because I haven’t really seen anyone talk about it. Thanks Readers!
—Maisy
PS—I’ll do a more in-depth review once the series is over as well

Mando Excitement and Bad Batch Thoughts
Hello friends! With the release of the latest Mandalorian Season 3 trailer and the upcoming release date of March 1st, I decided to do a Mando rewatch of Seasons 1&2, as well as the two episodes in The Book of Boba Fett (and perhaps all of BoBF). Since it seemed so far away for so long, I hadn’t really thought about the show for the last year or so, but I’m definitely getting back into that…

and Hob is nervous about hurting her because shes so small and mortal and initially doesnt get her imagination track, but eventually gets in the swing of things
Rue, Chirp, and Esme join in playing later, but for a while, Rue is just looking  with absolute heart eyes at Hob

Random Ahsoka speculation
So since Dave confirmed at the panel the Rebels Epilouge is set AFTER Mando and BoBF (and we literally see what seems to be it recreated in the trailer) Im gonna guess the first few episodes will play out in Ahsoka kinda like this. At first Ahsokas in her same “Ahsoka the Grey” outfit she’s been in in Mando and stuff, she finds those Runes that look related to the World Between Worlds and she gets some kind of clue about Ezra somehow this also soon leads to her donning the “Ahsoka the White” look. Before or right after this ether she contacts Hera or Hera contacts her, they talk about Ezra and meet. After getting her new drip and us finding out... whatever the hell it’s supposed to actually mean Ahsoka goes and picks up Sabine (presumably with Hera and Chopper) and the 4 (and hopefully Rex too) of them head for the unknown Regions to truly begin the search in earnest.
Not sure if Zeb and Kallus will show up but if they do I think it’ll be later in the show.  Oh and Chopper commits at least one war crime per episode of course.

Kenobi thoughts.
It's okay. It's not bad, but it's not great. I'm not sure if it'll end up being good, but it errs dangerously close to being boring and forgettable, right now.
More thought bellow the cut for spoilers.
Why is SW so obsessed with everything being for 6 to 12 year olds?
Why are every bad guy cringe and incompetent? Run into branches and do lame parkour?
Why is the cameraman making Reva pov of grabbing a pipe, cutting in the middle of her assassin creeds backflip to go to a dog-like move? Why is there a minute long cut of Obi-Wan and Leia goofing around while she's doing the cringe parkouring, killing any sense of a chase or momentum?
Why is everyone dressed in sheets and cheap tasteless costumes? I'm not usually one to nitpick costuming, but I'm also not usually one to *notice* it. Grab a tan sheet!! It's trendy!
What about internal consistency?
"the jedi failed you!" Reva says to the people of Tatooine. I beg your pardon? The planet never left Hutt possession. The Jedi were a tool of the Republic. They only came around to scam you and slaughter the locals.
There is so much tell with no show. The grand inquisitor monologues about hunting Jedi to people terrified of him, because as per usual Tatooine is treated not like a remote planet, but the poor neighborhood in a small galactic city.
Why would these people know what inquisitors are? Why would they care about Jedi? And if they know, and care, then why do you feel the need to monologue at them?
Why won't you *show us* that Tatooine is a backwater shit show? Why not open with the inquisitors crashing a slave auction? Why wouldn't the people tell the arrogant goth newcomers to piss off their lawn, only to be cut down? SHOW US dammit. Monologuing to a crowd doesn't count!
Also, if Obi-Wan knows that Vader = Anakin just from hearing the name... erm... how come a stinky little Mos Eisley pub owner can know about inquisitors, but Obi-Wan somehow never heard about *Vader* before? It's been 10 years! Bail works in the Senate, and he came IN PERSON to see you, how is Vader not discussed???
As for Leia, the actress does a great job for being this young. She delivers her lines very well, and she has some really sick burns. Fun! But WHY was she written to go from 14/10 logic to 2/10 just for plot convenience?
She can shame an adult with her sharp words and flawless logic, but when thinking "they kidnapped me to bait you out", her conclusion isn't "he must really be a Jedi then" but "I should totally run under live fire and make this impossible jump there's no way I can land."
Why? And why does Obi-Wan, a grown ass man who raised Anakin and co-raised Ahsoka, somehow fail to catch a 10 yo waddling next to him? Why cut your show the way you did, if you want to make her trotting away realistic?
Why did using the Force look like shitting a brick? Since when does one get so rusty it hurts? Why couldn't they show an emotional/psychological toll, from being instantly outed to all the inquisitors, instead of making it look like he was pulling a tendon flexing a shriveled muscle?
Bail Organa, how easy is it to get into your backyard? Why are the villains all Looney Tunes levels?
It wasn't bad! But it was... Not great. Not riveting. Not breath taking.
Worse, it felt like a short story. Done. I got what the trailer advertised. A Kenobi adventure. I have NO idea what next episode will have, but not in a fun, speculative way. Not "what's next on this journey?" More "Whatever the fuck is this show about then?"
If I weren't a clown platinum member of this circus fandom, IDK if I'd be motivated to come back for more?
Severance had me more edge of my seat than this, two episodes in, and it's about dystopian office work. Like—
Sigh. I'll keep watching. Who knows, it might go towards *good*, but right now it's just watchable. Nothing as bad as BoBF was even 2 episodes in but...
WHO THE FUCK IS SO INTO LAME PARKOUR AT DISNEY??? Can we get them off of this cringe trend? The director of photography CLEARLY doesn't know how to handle it. Just stop!
On the positive side, it was nice to see Breha and Bail... Leia's actress is great... Ewan is handsome, so is Owen. That Clone trooper didn't get the time he deserved and I hope he/others will show up again. Everyone tried their best.... The jawa was cute. Obi calling Leia his daughter was cute.... That's it. Ah, and Order 66 was great again as usual.
Here's to hopping nobody steps on a rake or runs into a fake tunnel next week.

Late to this party by quite a few hours but I finally managed to watch the two Kenobi episodes
I can't figure out how to do cuts on mobile so here's your
SPOILER WARNING
So here's my thoughts, untainted by the internet as of yet:
- I FUCKING LOVE THIS SO FAR
- It hits all the beats we kind of expected it to hit and it does so WELL
- Opening on Order 66 is ouch - though I think this is more for Reva's character than Obi Wans
- Didn't think we'd get so much Alderaan and I'm here for it - Bail and Breha and Leia and it's all going to end so tragically ugh why am I a sucker for this kind of stuff
- Baby Leia is PERFECT - the actress does a great jkb and the writing for her is brilliant, to say nothing of her dynamic with Obi Wan
- So much sad Obi-Wan, all my dreams are coming true, sobbing and Qui-Gon meditation next please
- Love that he actually did bury the lightsaber in the desert, alongside Anakin's no less, and now that has bonus ST ressonance points too
- I like how clear they're being on the themes and goals of this thing even if it's a little heavy handed sometimes (it's SW so that's to be expected) - much rather have that than the unclear mess we ended up with in BOBF
- I really like Reva so far and I think it's hilarious that Obi-Wan keeps picking up darksiders who are obsessed with him in every single continuity
- Owen bit was also what was expected but good and I liked what followed
- Obi Wan taking quite a few hits in those fights is great as a reminder that he IS seriously out of practice
- Cool that we're out of Tatooine and Daiyu and have passed most trailer material already
- Happy that we're not getting that many cameos for the sake of it so far - all the old characters that are in this make sense for this story
- Two things I didn't like: some of the action in episode 1 was oddly clunky, especially the baddies chasing Leia and in the opening scene; also in ep 1 there was some very awkward dialogue here and there, mostly in the beginning (although let's face it: that, too, is a SW staple)
- Two things that will have the fandom frothing at the mouth and IDGAF about: Grand Inquisitor dying here when he dies in Rebels also. Guys, he somehow returned and that's all we need to know really. And Leia actually knowing Obi-Wan - granted he never introduces himself properly, but several people call him by name within earshot of her. If they can 'write' around the Leia remembering Padmé thing they can write around this - see above on the 'somehow' issue (let go, let go)

I really hate The Grand Inquisitors design in live action by the way. It's like they didn't even try. I don't want to be too harsh at the same time, but they could have done so much better, I absolutely believe that. Back in season 1, even though we didn't know anything about the GI, I loved his voice, the way he spoke, his mannerisms, his fighting, personality, design, just everything. I'm really hoping they can do that in live action show
Yeah I mean.... When I was asked by my dear friend, my initial reaction was "lol IDGAF IT'S NEW CONTENT bayBEE" and I've probably watched that trailer about 20 times since then and now I'd like to think I have a more rational view.
On one hand, I'm too excited to really complain that much yet.
Also, if I'm trying to be optimistic, Cad Bane. He looked nothing like the canon, live-action appearance of his species, and although my husband and I immediately recognized him in BoBF, he definitely looked different to his appearance in Clone Wars. But ultimately, even more so than some of our more Star Wars purist friends, we decided we liked the way he looked because of the emotional impact, right? Like he looked so cool and cold and menacing but also his gesticulation was so tangible he looked so real and expressive! So the style choice worked for him. Especially the change to the teeth!
But the first thing that really rubbed be about the Grand Inquisitor specifically was the eyes. Because like, that's just a regular dude's eyes. And it was just a trailer, so MAYBE they will CGI fix it for the show. Obviously the head shape is different (see aforementioned Hellraiser post- lol), but....... maaaaayyybbe they'll make it work or have a reason for it. Yes, they have had live-action Pau'an that looked like our animated Grand Inquisitor friend. But maybe those prosthetics didn't hold up well to actual stunt work or something? The Pau'an in RotS are really stiff in their movements and all so maybe that was part of the issue. I'm not really sure. But I'm willing to overlook a lot for a good, compelling story. We haven't seen him move much yet.
I thought the .3 seconds we saw of the Fifth Brother looked pretty good though. His eyes looked correct? His color scheme pleases me. He looked kinda short maybe but eh. Again. I'm kind of just excited to have the tiniest morsels of content.
