Blended some fiber last night

The brown and black rolag is 1/3 of an ounce (9 grams) and made of silk and merino and a little mystery wool; the blue-purple gradient weighs 1/5 of an ounce (8 grams) and is mostly bfl and Romney.

Then there's this batt, which is 1.2 ounces (34 grams) and a blend of merino, silk, tencel, milkweed silk, and angora. That one is a yellowish to green to blueish gradient. Been wanting to try more gradients. Also, was a good way to use up the .8 ounces of merino-silk roving I got with my last 4 bucks at flock and fiber this year. I didn't really like spinning it by itself (just boring) but hopefully it'll be better here.

Who here has bought a cool blending board, not one from Ashford or some such but from an indie dealer with an artistic flair.

Did some work down in the workshop this week. I’ve got the parts of my fibre blending board all cut & sanded, just waiting on some hardware in order to finish it off.

My glass whorl from Glassbead in etsy & custom spindle sticks to fit from The Dancing Goats arrived too. I sanded smooth some pointy parts of the sticks & sealed with beeswax, all ready to try out medieval spinning.

Recent adventure in fiber blending and spinning. I did about six passes on my blending board with a pet brush to blend a mix of corriedale, merino, faux cashmere, mystery wool from a grab bag, sparkle, and recycled sari silk. It worked out to ~24g total, which I split between three rolags. Spinning it up longdraw on my teacup supported spindle. I basically wanted to see how well I could blend different types of fibers without a drum carder, and the answer is pretty well if I'm willing to dedicate the time to it. The main drawbacks are that it's time & labor intensive, limited to the amount of fiber I can fit on my blending board (~25g), and I felt like it introduced more nepps than a drum carder would have. Granted, that last point is debatable since I don't have a drum carder or extensive experience with one to compare to. Fine fibers like merino and faux cashmere can be more prone to nepps in woolen preps, my blending board does not have a high-TPI carding cloth more suitable for fine fibers, and I didn't use an anti-static or detangling spray while blending, so I could possibly reduce nepps in the future with a couple of changes. I didn't get a terrible amount of nepps anyway and they haven't impacted my enjoyment of the spin. My verdict is that I'm still going to save up for wool combs and a drum carder, but in the meantime it's a viable option for me to use my blending board this way.

SO! I decided to prep some matching colourways for this turquoise Corriedale I dyed a few years back. there are 2 distinct batches of rolags here:

is white Corriedale top mixed with a mixed merino colourway

is white BFL top mixed with the same merino colour blend

It's really interesting to see how differently the Corriedale and BFL handle on the blending board. the BFL is silky and straight and smooth by comparison. The Corriedale is springy and fuzzy and the BFL has a sheen to it.

Osiris and Drifter should hang out they’re both old guys with unique perspectives on light and dark and are extremely intelligent/wise. It would not be EASY to get them to hang out but if they did they’d be unstoppable.

Made some batts yesterday. Been a while, was very fun.

And if I joined up all of my yarn scraps that are too short for me to do anything with but long enough for me to feel bad about throwing away.

Which is to say, which joining method would you recommend, reader? Some are too short for russian joins or holding the yarn double and I dont mind little knots - I've done a couple of weavers knots and those are working fine, streets say they're secure and small, but are there any others yall think I should experiment with?

The Master’s TARDIS is fully aware and competent in changing its form and perception. He’s just an incredibly stubborn ship who never likes the shape he chooses.

The desire to make the default exterior of the Master’s TARDIS rotate between the grimiest, most beat up, graffitied public phone booth, vending machine, and giant electrical box, all that you have to open in the exact annoying right way is huge and strong and I need to draw it, eventually.
